1875 Barrington St, Halifax, NS B3J 3L6, Canada
Situated street-side on the busiest corner in Halifax, TEMPO offers locally inspired comfort food with a twist morning, noon, and night. Great wines by the glass, local beer and spirits, and inspired cocktails are served alongside Canadian classics and Asian fusion.
Went in for breakfast and had a truly horrible experience. The server acted like we were bothering her by being there, never checked in on us after we got our food. The coffee was horrible and got worse the cooler it got. Refills weren't offered until we were finished eating. The fruit salad was old and mushy, the toast dry, and the "cheddar cheese" that comes with the cold tempo was just two slices of sandwich cheese, cut in half. Very disappointed. Well over $50 for a truly horrible experience, where we couldn't even finish our meal.
Oh, it was delicious! Definitely in the European hotel tradition. I hate chowder, and yet their corn and bacon chowder was delicious! I liked their popcorn chicken too (made with juicy dark meat). And their Tempo Sliders were like little flavor masterpieces—even the haddock slider! They had a croissant bread pudding with rum sea salt caramel sauce; the raisins had been soaked in rum too, the little scoop of ice cream was pleasant, and it was just soft, crispy, flavorful and delicious! A fantastic meal! My only complaint was that service was a little slow to come by with refills.
The food was tasty; the omelet was nice with a blend of cheese and ham that complemented the veggies. The potatoes had a flavorful spice, although slightly overcooked, a bit too saturated with fat. It would have been nice to have prompt coffee refills. The ambiance was pleasant, and the flavors memorable. A unique spot with lots of seating at street level. It was on my list to visit, and I'm glad I did.
Went here for a quick snack before a dinner party and the girl that served us was super cheerful and kind. She was always smiling and made us feel welcomed. Clean restaurant and good variety of seating
Honestly - this meal wasn’t great. I got the lox eggs benny and would not recommend. - OJ: 4/10 (not good and $3.50 for a small glass) - home fries: 6/10 (not homemade but fine) - soft poached egg: 8.5/10 - quite good - lox: 5/10 - a little fishy but OK - extra side of hollandaise: 1/10 - came cold and was $4 for a tiny silver cup (same size ketchup came in) Bill was over $45 - not worth it at all. Would not recommend. The service was nice good! The runner and server were very nice.
Other than pad Thai, everything is good. Regarding the pad thai, i srsly think they need to change the recipe because: 1/ this ain’t pad Thai: this is just a noodle dish that has curry sauce in it. 2/ The curry sauce is tasteless. Atmosphere is amazing! Service is super good!
We ate here recently while staying at the Barrington. We each had the grab and go deal. It comes with a breakfast sandwich, hash browns and a drink. It was hot, fresh and tasted good. The service was terrific too. Very convenient and a great deal.
My first visit in a long time where I don't work in downtown Halifax anymore. Had the Thai chicken wrap with the house salad on the side. Beautiful presentation and it was delicious! Our waitress was great - super helpful and friendly.
Well well well. Our hostess was named LISA and she is just great. Made us feel like family and she made sure we were happy and full lol, easy going and so kind. Will absolutely be back just to say hi to lisa again and get more eggs benny YUM! God love her cotton socks. Outstanding customer service is near impossible to find these days but lisa got it down pat...without even trying. Just a great human who cares! Thank you Lisa for making our stay at the barrington one we will remember forever. She deserves a raise for going above and beyond.
Had the two piece fish and chips was greasy I would recommend going to the blue nose you can get a 3 piece fish and chips cheaper and better tasting.
Delicious breakfast, friendly staff.
Seen a rat come towards us, left immediately, cant comment on the food
The food was delicious but Lisa made the whole experience make you come back for more. What an asset Lisa is and she should be a cherished employee. Thank you for making a lost Ozzie feel at home.
Best fish tacos in Halifax
This has to the unfriendlyness and unwelcoming spot I have ever been too. Morgan never greeted me. I asked her what type of paninis they had she pointed at the ones in the counter and said those ones. I asked what type and she told me. I decided on a Cesar salad but not sure where she sent the order too. A nice gentleman wearing gray pants and a light blue shirt seen I was waiting asked if I was helped I said yes, he went to find my order and had to ask the Chef where the salad was. Morgan needs to be trained better.
Hotel is good!! Bartenders are awesome!! Leslie makes an amazing espresso martini Food
Definitely enjoying this restaurant during our stay here, and certain to enjoy it for our remaining days in Halifax.
Coffee is terrible, I didnt know scrambled eggs could be so dry, breakfast potatoes were also dry and the toast was hard. Dont bother.
The service here is fantastic! The staff are friendly, efficient, and prompt. The food is just slightly better than a breakfast diner type place, not bad not spectacular. The coffee however is very good. Food : 3/5
Perfect breakffast. Tracy is very poliite... kitchen is very good....
Lunch was mediocre. Breakfast was really bad. Servers dont check on you after food is delivered. You might as well have a lunch counter if you get zero service. I was kicked out @ 2:30 even though I wasnt done because they closed from 2-3. See very kept saying I dont know why they do that, when it was clearly her decision if I stayed to finish my tea. If youre looking for something attached to the Barrington hotel, sadly Boston Pizza is the better option.
We lucked out staying at the Barrington Hotel so that we could have our breakfasts here, at Tempo. Ive never had better poached eggs and rye toast, and the coffee was to die for, but I wouldnt get the oatmeal again. Our server, Tracy, shared so much critically important information about Halifax, its history, and its sights, I am sure we wouldnt have seen half as much as we did if it hadnt been for her. Thank you!
I can t speak to how the food was cuz we never ended up getting it. We waited an hour for food and then our server came by to tell us that the system messed up and our orders didn t go through.
Ordered a Mocha to enjoy in my room. I love that this place is conveniently attached to the hotel and accessible by the pedestrian walkway system. The staff were so attentive, within seconds of stepping inside 3 separate staff greeted me and asked if I had been helped. I wish the mocha I ordered was as outstanding as the service though. This is the only reason I m not giving 5 stars. My coffee was mediocre at best.
I was there during breakfast time, breakfast was OK and not great, the stuff are super friendly
Absolutely stellar. The chowder was amazing and everything else Ive had was great. Cocktail special at happy hour was great. Service was great.
I had the pleasure of meeting a bartender named Sophie I believe who made a killer Margarita. If you see this lady behind the bar I highly recommend trying one
Lovely spot, delighted we found this before we flew out of Halifax! Our server was amazing, she really looked after us & you can tell she genuinely cares about the customers (I believe her name is Lisa).
I went here a couple weekends ago, and was served by the bartender, leslie, she was great, very friendly. When I asked what she would recommend, she suggested the tacos and they were very good. I would definitely go back there. Great service and atmosphere!
My wife and I arrived at the Barrington Hotel from a long flight from afar, exhausted and hungry so we popped into Tempo as it was connected to the hotel. We each shared an appetizer and each got a taco plate. Our bill came out nearly $100, which was a bit shocking for a quick lunch for the 2 of us. First was the unknown upgrades to the soup and salad that were included with these dishes. The waitress asked if I wanted a chowder, my wife asked if she could have a side of Ceasar, with ZERO mention that these were going to cost extra. They were literally tiny bowls that came on the plate. Second was the Service Fee. I didnt understand what this was, and maybe thought this was something common in this city. It was not. We ate at a few other places that did NOT charge this. So whatever this hidden fee was, was implemented only by this restaurant. The lack of communication and this hidden fee was not OK, and are in my opinion out of integrity. Just watch out for these shady tactics if you choose to eat here.
Great resto if you can catch them when theyre open. Opening hours are all over the map and very inconvenient for those staying at Barrington who are looking for a quick bite.
Our server Meagan was awesome, friendly and attentive. Food was very good, we went for burger bash and were not disappointed. Would definitely go back!!
This Friday I ordered 12 wings and was not able to finish 3 wings. So I asked for a to go box. The new server at the bar told me that since it s happy hour, there is no take out box. If I want, I have to put it in the to go taco box. Honestly I found it bit rude. The earlier lady at the bar used to be very friendly - check how is food and everything etc. Again these are small things which make the customer to return.
I ordered the hot tempo, the toast and hash browns were excellent, and the sausage was good, however the egg was a tad undercooked. My server, Lisa, was quick and very friendly! I would recommend the breakfast here. Recommended dishes
Excellent food and service! Meaghan, our server, is experienced, attentive and knows the menu well. She was able to make great recommendations and accommodate our needs. A variety of price points to choose from. All around awesome.
Good omelette and nice staff
Dietary restrictions: Gluten friendly options available. Food
I wanted to buy some vine at 9.50 pm. But your restaurant was closed. Shame. Can you give for your customers normal shift of your work, because you must be open till 10 pm
The food in the restaurant was great. I have no complaints about that at all and our server was very helpful. however, one of the other servers (Tracy) was very short and rude to my wife and one-year-old child as they were walking around the restaurant at times. At no point was the baby unsupervised. essentially scolding my wife for letting the baby walk around the restaurant. as a restaurant that is driven primarily by the hotel that s next-door one would think that this restaurant would be family friendly, but it seems that it s not. Would not recommend bringing a family to this location for any reason.
I was actually having a good time. Food was good for just a straight forward breakfast. Our server was pleasant. However, I had to leave a couple times with our toddler. All except for one occasion I had her in my arms when heading for the exit because I didn t want to disturb others in the restaurant. When I returned i had her walking holding my hand when another waitress (Tracy) swiftly told me off and told me I could not have her in here on the ground. Honestly, I wouldn t have mind if she had asked me to kindly pick her up, but she was absolutely rude and aggressive . Our server tried to back her up saying they were busy. If you can not conduct yourself professionally in a busy environment then your not cut out for it. There are much busier restaurants in Halifax. Our friends were shocked by her tone. I will most definitely not be recommending this place going forward to any of our visiting friends and family.
Im glad after two years (covid) the full service restaurant has reopened. I like the atmosphere here as its pretty big, with basic comfortable tables & booths, lots of natural lighting. Mostly new staff, all friendly and attentive. I had the avocado toast last week, which was simple and good. I cant finish the carafe of coffee that they bring, but some people would love that theyd definitely get their caffeine fix for the morning. Parking validated if you use the hotel lot. Ill be back here regularly. Aug 2023: 7am breakfast on a sunny Thursday. We were probably the first customers of the day and remained only one of two tables taken the entire time, which made it very relaxing. Chatty, friendly server. I tried the breakfast sandwich, which is a pretty standard one on toast with lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheese (?), and a sauce that I cant recall, so may just be mayo. Nothing exciting, but nothing wrong with it in any way. Frozen seasoned home fries make the meal itself filling. My friend had the basic breakfast and loves his eggs almost burnt. This place made them to his liking, which is hard for many places to achieve for some reason.
Diner-style restaurant in the lobby of the Barrington Hotel. Its a convenient place to eat if youre staying in the hotel but I wouldnt say its a must-go-to destination to eat in Halifax.
Great breakfast - nice service
Started our day having breakfast here eggs, home fries back bacon and toast very reasonably priced and very good Tonight due to rain we stayed in for dinner we both had the seafood chowder was amazing ( a must have again before vacation is over) pan seared haddock and chicken linguini to our delight everything was exceptional our server Aidon was such a nice young man and a pleasure to speak with. Well the seafood chowder was too good to pass up so tonight we both had the chowder again!! That was all we needed to satisfy and of course a little chat with our server Sophie what a lovely young lady Good job to the chef as well!
Quiet and understated. Thank you especially to our server, Sophie!
Breakfast restaurant in Barrington Hotel with reduced hours, but good service whenever open. We received good tips for our ungoing travel in NS.
I hosted a reunion for an academic group at Tempo and I cant say enough good things about the staff. From the start they were excellent communicators and answered all of my questions. Due to a miscommunication, the reunion was held on the wrong night but everyone at Tempo was so gracious and understanding and they were able to host the reunion on what was meant to be the original date. The food and beverage supervisor, Aidon, was super helpful and flexible, the sous chef, Gillian, was so kind to me when I came to the restaurant to explain what happened, and the two girls that were working the night of the reunion (Im sorry for not getting your names), were absolute angels. If you need to host a gathering in Halifax, Tempo is a great option.
Recommend Seafood Chowder Delicious food and good services Food
We stayed at the Barrington Hotel before and during the storms. the service was good for take out. We had the breakfast special and starbucks coffee a couple of times the week we were there and it was good value of the money. During the storm we has ordered a fish and it chips - unfrtunately it was too greasy and I could not eat it. The next night we decided to have dinner at the hotel since it was almost a lock down situation and it ended up they did not have most items on the menu and understandable die to the circumstances. The food was mediocre, what I did order and my sister ordered a chowder and it did not sit well in her stomach. It was disappointing but we knew the staff were pulling double shifts becasue i saw them at breakfast and then at dinner time.
Average food, average price, average service. Had to request water as this would otherwise not have been brought.
We are in town for four days and have had poor experiences 2 out of 3 attempts at Tempo. On Friday we had a great experience, the food was tasty, the waitress was great and the service was quick. On Saturday, when I went down for brunch they were closed. After a phone call, I learned that they where closed early due to staffing issues. Today, my wife and I, went down for breakfast. After placing our orders; bagel and cream cheese for her and Eggs Benedict on gluten free toast for me, we received our juice and coffee. Then we waited, and waited. After three or four couples who were seated after us had ordered and gotten their food, we stopped the waitress and asked about our orders. Five minutes later, she walked by and said Its being taken care of now. She didnt stop to talk to us, and she certainly did not apologize. A few minutes later my wife stopped her a asked to speak to the floor manager. Our waitress replied I guess thats me. She continued to say that it was taking time to bring the water to a boil to poach the eggs. It was nothing but deflections and avoidance of ownership of the problem. An honest apology would of calmed my wife a great deal. My wife then said she wasnt sure if she to have breakfast any more and the waitress indicated that if we didnt want to stay, it was fine. We chose to leave. In all a very dissatisfactory experience that left my wife in tears back in the hotel room.
I like to grab and go from there.
Wonderful place to eat
Had the Banana Bread French Toast and it was absolutely delicious!!! Will definitely be back!
Had a rude waitress at breakfast. Ordered a caesar and was told no because they dont serve booze in the morning. So I asked for a virgin caesar and she audibly sighed. Got the caesar and it was among the worst Ive ever had. Tasted like straight up tomato juice. My girlfriend got coffee and they never once came back to the table to refill. Food to 50 minutes to come out. Had to ask another server for water and coffee refill because we hadnt seen our server in ages. Food finally came out and the potatoes were extremely greasy and very hard. Everything else was just plain and bland. Had the breakfast poutine and girlfriend had the small breakfast. 50 minutes.... Wont be back
I got food poisoning from their rice bowls . The cause of food poisoning is literally contaminated food. I hope they get better at making sure the food they serve is clean. I ve never reviewed a restaurant at all so this is my first time. I have to let people know that they might get food poisoning too. Be careful.
A good reminder as to why we haven t been here in several years. Service was mediocre but it was dead when we first arrived and it started picking up only seemed to be two serving staff. We seen on the menu they brought back potachoes and we use to like them so we gave them a try and asked for bacon on the side. What we got was chips, cheese and diced tomato and not layered either. They were missing the green onion were just very disappointing.
I had a very unpleasant experience at Tempo Food and Drink. I ordered a Sausage and egg sandwich with home fries and 1 Bubly. The egg was a microwaveable egg pattie and it tasted like burnt rubber. The sausage was cut into half and then into eighths then a half was put on. The Home fries were store bought and were less home and more Store. The home fries were the only good part of the meal. The bubly was 3 dollars. I could buy a 12 pack of bubly for 1 dollar more.
This place is now open again after a 2 year shut down. On my very first business trip to Halifax is 2 years, i went there for breakfast. It was always my go to place. Was so happy to see that Lisa was still there and her old self. I always feel right at home in this restaurant and the food is amazing. Must mention the food... A must for anyone going to Halifax as far as i am concerned. Thx for getting through the challenge of the pandemic Tempo and may you all bounce back and thrive in 2022.
Nice place for breakfast. Proper coffee too
I only had one quick drink of my coffee before I had to leave and go back to the dentist but it was good
Fantastic service - thanks Lisa - with a great recommendation for the lunch special. The chicken tacos and house salad sounded like a safe choice - but the flavours were much more than expected. Definitely a great place for a light bite.
Slow service
My sister and I had breakfast there. I had the oatmeal with maple cream and rhubarb as well as some pan fried potatoes. They were very tasty. My sister enjoyed what she had. They have a variety of gluten-free treats as well. The oat cakes were delicious. I d give them five stars but their cappuccino machine was broken for two days and they close way too early for a restaurant attached to a hotel.
My mother and I used to visit here for our lunch dates and we always would get the fish tacos. We went recently and the tacos were really bland are just tasted like lettuce. I wonder if they changed something because of COVID?
We have waited for more than 40 minutes for our breakfast, and the services were terrible. No recommendation
one hour breakfast
A close place to eat while staying at the Barrington Hotel for a few days. Good food and drink but fairly pricey.
The fish tacos and ceasar salad are legendary and our waitress was amazing
very clean and quiet, but take too long to wait
Good and clean environment, but it is too slow because short of working people
Deli style menu with an urban flare. I had lox and cream cheese bagel with a side of housemade fruit salad. I felt the price was a bit much for an untoasted bagel with schmear and salmon @ $20. Coffee is Starbucks, not always my favourite, which added $3.75 to the bill. With tax and tip an astronomical price to start your day! Wheelchair accessibility: Entrance from hotel lobby is accessible
The eggs Benedict is perfect!
My sister and I decided to try them for breakfast since we were staying at the Barrington, so we ordered 2 fruit bowls, a coffee, and a hot chocolate. My coffee came within 10 minutes, but we were waiting almost an hour for our fruit bowl and hot chocolate. The fruit bowl also did not taste right, some pieces tasted savory like salad dressing?? Anyways, it made us late to our event and it also gave my sister a stomach ache. :( We were a little disappointed.
Went for a beer, stayed for the burger. The burger is an actual surprise, I did not expect a burger this tasty at this place. 10/10 recommend to anyone. Alli does an excellent job as bartender, greets you with a great smile every day.
I liked the vibe of this store. This pasta was a bit cheesy but still tasted good
Not your average hotel restaurant! Great menu, generous portions, excellent service, and the local is perfect for working lunches with colleagues or clients. The turkey dinner poutine was fantastic!
Staff very accommodating and cheerfully.
Couldnt of asked for a better four course meal the last time I was down home. Look forward to visiting again.
Ordered breakfast sandwich. Sausage patties and egg were still frozen. None was fresh. They basically microwave it..
Only says they are open. They arnt. Drove from out of town to have a nice brunch. No signs anywhere saying they arnt open. Very unimpressed
Nice breakfast, lines may be long during breakfast times, I used the grab n go but dine in was open as well
Food is awsome the workers were awsome
My wife and I love Tempo they always have something new on the menu every time we go the food is always a 10/10 and its a very calm candlelight atmosphere
Ive gone to Tempo a few times for Burger week but this time I went for my 5th year anniversary to actually try the menu. Our waiter Warren was extremely friendly and attentive. I ordered the Haddock burger and my girlfriend ordered the Buttermilk chicken burger which arrived pretty quickly. They were both delicious and what I really liked about the haddock burger is that it wasnt deep fried unlike most of the others Ive had. The fries are to die for, the spices on them are so tasty. The cocktails were really good, I highly recommend the Tempo sling. Our waiter also offered us a complimentary item because of our occasion. I definitely recommend this place if you want good food and a cozy atmosphere. I cant wait to see what new burger you guys have this upcoming burger week! The donair burger was amazing 2 years back!
Seafood chowder... Delicious. Excellent service. Nice atmosphere...
The vibe was great! Restaurant service was really good! The server taking care of us was fabulous her name was Cassandra! Corns that we ordered was outstanding , I ordered the wrap it was the worst ! Fish and chips were okay!! My husband really liked the mac and cheese
Just had an amazing breakfast here with an amazingly helpful staff. Amazing food at a very good price! 10/10 would recommend going for breakfast. We will definitely be coming back next time were in Halifax.
This place is an unknown gem. Excellent fish and chips easily best downtown
Work on the Rd
I had the best clamshowder ever for so far!. Very rich with shrimp, codfish, salmon and Coquille. Creamy and tasteful! I will come back again when Ill be in Halifax!.
Great staff
Great soup, nice to have the place open again
Great food and drinks and wonderful service for us and our friends. Thanks Janice!
great food and service, highly recommend. Like their server
We str from California and the lady at Bsnk recommended this restaurant. It was Perfect. I had mussels and wine. Great service and terrific Food. We will go for breakfast tomorrow.
Nice staff, excellent bar. Would recommend for any and all events. Attached to Delta Barrington.
A fave stop for us.
Suberb dining experiences to be had at this downtown delight. Part of the Delta hotel but also a lovely stand alone location. Tempo cannot be beat when looking for a relatively small and affordable meal excellent thought out and served.
I always love the soup here.
Tempo is located in the Barrington Hotel. It is convenient if you are staying there or at the Marriott. The service is good and the restaurant is clean an open. The food is a mix of a little bit of everything. I had the falafel and kale salad. The falafel was too dry and bland, but the kale salad was great. My friends ordered tacos and the fried chicken sandwich, both of which were good. We shared the lobster poutine as an appetizer which was great. Worth stopping by, but there are lots of other really tasty restaurants in town that I would recommend over Tempo.
Great service. Our waitress Tracy went above and beyond, from suggesting great options to my daughter to finding her a candle for her dessert and singing Happy Birthday to then paying fpr her meal. Thank you Tracy you made my daughters day.
My first time to Halifax & my first night I had dinner at Tempo. What a great meal, I had the thai chicken wrap w/ ceasar salad, very satisfying. I had two other dinners & a breakfast this morning, everytime was fantastic. The three female servers were very friendly & courteous. Outstanding service, not to say everyone else wasnt nice I only had talked to them. I dont want to forget the vegan banana bread & oatmeal cookies, outstanding. Great food, Great atmosphere, Great service, win win.
Fish tacos were fantastic, but really what made the experience was the great service. Guys at the bar were great Missed his name but they were very helpful
Delicious brunch to get our day of touring started. The atmosphere is a replica of Torontos O&B Canteen at the TIFF Bell Lightbox (on purpose? Im not sure.)
Fish tacos are a must try! New spicer chipotle variety is excellent.
I always come here with my friends to enjoy their fish Tacos. Arguably the best in Halifax
Best fish tacos !
TLDR; this place is where you want to go. Great food and out standing service. From the moment we stepped in we were greeted graciously and with a smile. We were then lucky enough to be seated in Kendras section. She offered an amazing non alcoholic beverage to my fiance and was more than happy to share with us her knowledge of the menu. We had the nachos and fish tacos(the reason we were told to come here) the nachos were Kendras choice and were delicious. We then shared the fish tacos and were very happy with the portion size. After our meal I realized my phone was dead and Kendra did everything she could to help up find a charger. Unfortunately I have an unpopular phone and we werent able to find one. Assuring us it would be fine Kendra came back with a map of the city and drew out our directions to get us home. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone I knew in this area.
Honestly I give the food and kitchen a 5/5 and out of my 4 visits, the service was good and friendly, but you get the feel that the restaurant is a bit understaffed. Usually only one or two people to service the whole restaurant regardless of time of day. Overall definitely worth the visit and I recommend a lunch/dinner visit and the taco duo, or chicken tacos, however the other menu items all seem pretty solid.
Amazing place. Our waiter was Warren. He was super attentive and gave great suggestions for what to try. Our food was absolutely amazing, and an amazing price. I had the club sandwich with ceasar salad and my boyfriend got the chicken burger with fries. Will definitely return.
I come here for coffee in the mornings, and folks are always so pleasant and quick!
I was staying at the Barrington hotel and ate most of my meals at Tempo everything I ate was delicious I especially liked the fish tacos, calamari and the blueberry cheesecake was to die for . I would highly recommend this restaurant. Amazing staff as well.
Our server, Warren, was friendly and knowledgeable, and tipped us off to the upcoming (November 2019) taco week in Halifax. We may make the return trip, the tacos were exquisite.
Great staff and atmosphere!
Great breakfast, friendly staff. I love places that I can see the kitchen.
Great food, the lobster meals are very good and the staff are terrific
Thank you so much for accommodating my gluten allergy and vegan diet! The staff were friendly, kind and extremely helpful! They never balked at my requests and offered many options to suite my specific needs. Tempo made our stay at the Barrington even better!
We had the best mussels in all of Halifax here! So fresh and the sauce is to die for. Also had the Hot Lobster Sandwich which was amazing as well. Sorry for the photo of the mussels (snapped while half-eaten!). Beer choices were superb!
Value for money a bit expensive. We were staying at the annexed hotel and to have breakfast there was only this option if you wanted to eat at the hotel. We had a good meal and the staff were lovely.
Went Tempo twice during my holiday in Halifax and definitely worth to go. Love the food and beers there especially the lobster protein. Stuff there are super friendly. Thumb up!
I came here when hurricane dorian landed Halifax. The whole city shut down but this is the only restaurant open within waterfront area to all those suffered from dorian and cannot go home. The next morning the restaurant has almost used up its supplies from previous night; they cancelled regular menu but create a limited edition of hurricane breakfast menu so everyone can enjoy their peaceful morning after hurricane.
Easy access from the Barrington via the lobby. Good breakfasts and a good menu. Bar serves a number of wines, craft beers and domestic ales. All reasonably priced.
Fish tacos were absolutely amazing.
Revised: went there a second time and tried a different plate. The fish taco is worth every penny, and yes, staff is pretty awesome. I highly recommend it! (Went from a good 4/5 to 5/5)
Great pub right at the Delta Barrington!
I was very impressed with the hospitality from our waiter (Warren) and how the chef was so accommodating to provide what our food the way we liked it. Great breakfast!
Went on Saturday morning for the breakfast with my wife. I ordered steak and egg and she ordered egg omelet. Food was delicious. But I m not satisfied with the toast I got.
The service is amazing, the waitresses and assistant manager make you feel extra special and made a point to recognize me for the business I brought. The food is excellent. May be the best mac n cheese in the city, excellent chowder and fries also. Date squares (which I usually dont like) are phenomenal.
Awesome omelette. But the toast was too dry.
Disappointed tried to order 4 orders of their burger week special. They wouldnt let us pick up it was sit in only. Despite this the food is awesome but turning down business isnt the best choice.
Service was amazing but food wasnt all that great.
Soup was gluten free and vegan but tasteless Salad with pickled apples is not good without dressing
During my stay @ The Barrington I had three meals at Tempo and they were all exceptional. The staff are kind, courteous and attentive. My absolute favourite was the mac & cheese which is (seriously) to die for. Prices for food and drink are super reasonable. Of all the restaurants I tried in my recent trip to Halifax, I enjoyed Tempo the most.
Great breakfast
Forbidden rice bowl its worth every cent for this $19 plate.
I like their breakfast
Had eggs Benedict for breakfast. The best in town. We live 5 hours away and have breakfast here each time we visit. Family friendly and great service. Parking is an issue bit worth the walk.
Great service, inspired tacos, and delicious menu items... really the full package.
Awesome
Im going to tell a story about this place that makes Tempo my favourite place to eat in Halifax. My boyfriend and I (were both male) ate here on a Monday night on our way home from Dalhousie. They had a deal on for their nachos which were incredible but usually we get the fish tacos which are the best Ive ever had. Service was very good as usual and they were excited to have customers because the night was slow. A nice touch is that they bring you seasoned popcorn while you wait for your food at night. No extra cost! While we were eating, a man came into the restaurant and sat down with who we presumed to be his girlfriend. He was clearly intoxicated and we later found out he was on something else as well. He kept looking over at my boyfriend and I. Finally the man comes to our table and puts his hand on my shoulder. He put quite a bit of his weight on me and I was starting to worry. He mumbled quite a bit and the general message of what he was trying to say was that his girlfriend thought we were gay and he wanted to confirm with us. Now I dont have any issue with being open about the gay thing but I was a bit concerned for our safety. Finally the server noticed he had approached us but before he could get to the table the man left the restaurant. The woman apologized and tried to laugh it off. Our server apologized to us and took half off our bills. I think its important to tell that story because this was in no way at all the servers fault. He was sincere and kind and represents what I believe to be amazing service. We came back a few weeks later and the same server was there. He not only remembered us but also memorized our order from the time before! This place gets 5 stars from me. The only problem some people might have is parking. If you can bus to it, its right beside the Scotia Square bus terminal so its easy to get to. Otherwise, youll probably have to pay for parking inside the indoor lot across the street.
Awesome food and wait staff. Great fish tacos, awesome burger and fries. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner!
Really great food.
Great spot. I loved the design of the interior. Its modern and swanky. The food was quite nice and pretty generously portioned. Chips, Nd salad were absolutely fantastic. The only downside was their fish taco which they advertise as famous was a little plain to be famous. Everyone else I was with loved their meals as well. Will be back to try their Mac and cheese!
Very bland, low quality ingredients
Keeps updating menus. Nice stuffs and good food. Do chefs special every day for extra choice.
Really good food.
Really like Tempo! Great staff, awesome atmosphere and decent happy hour beer!
Delicious beer and the complimentary seasoned popcorn was a nice touch.
Amazing food and amazing service!
Amazing salad with goat cheese, beats and pecans. The southern chicken sandwich was tasty too.
I went to Tempo for the first time and a few of us ordered the avocado toast. By the looks of it, the avocado did not look fresh. The colour was this olive green colour and was like a paste. Normally, with avocado toast, the avocado is mashed and a nice green colour. The toast didnt even taste like avocado- it was tasteless. The toast was also soggy and too soft. However, the service was pretty decent. And the environment was nice. Unfortunately, I wont be back.
Great food and service. Atmosphere could use some warming up.
What an amazing meal. The seafood chowder was to die for and the award winning fish tacos were the best Ive ever had. Amazing spiced popcorn to start in the bar too! Gaetan was spectacular and so prompt and sweet. Thank you again for the wonderful meal and experience :)
The service was good. It took us a few minutes to get noticed though. Food arrived fairly quick. The sweet potato-cauliflower soup was delicious. Creamy and flavorful! On a chilly day Id recommend a light spice instead of green onion garnish The fish taco, though stuffed to overflowing, was only ok taste-wise. The Tempo burger was pretty good, though the same taste could have been accomplished without so much sauce. A bit greasy. Such a mess. Excellent sourdough bun!
Great staff and good food
Had the haddock burger with fries, and it was absolutely delicious! They even being popcorn to the table to snack on before your meal comes which is wonderful since you wont get filled up, and they even have different flavours that are amazing! Fun names all throughout their drinks menu, as well. Friendly staff, cozy place, comfy seating, great food and drink, and a fantastic location, connected to the hotels, Scotia square, the casino and more, Tempo is a fantastic place to grab a bit and /or a drink!
Lobster dinner was great, and reasonably priced. Friendly service and complimentary spicy popcorn was included while I waited for the lobster!
Food is good quality, but found the menu somewhat limited
Excellent value - great prices for the upscale atmosphere. Music was great. Very accommodating and super friendly staff. Would recommend.
The service was very friendly and the food was delicious!! The portions were great and the prices more than reasonable!
Excellent service, food came out quickly and tasted great
I enjoyed my food. My server Janice is very nice!
Very good food .. I had the fish burger at lunch time and was really good .. never was disappointed there !
Great service and amazing food
The brunch was amazing (especially the hasbrowns) and our server was so nice!
Great food, excellent fish. Service is a bit slow, but staff is very friendly
Firstly, the service here is outstanding. They cater to both veg/ gluten free diets. They give you complementary popcorn, and its a different flavour depending on the day. Great prices, great portion sizes, and great atmosphere. 10/10 I absolutely love this place.
Food is good. Service was good. 3 stars only because we wanted a few bloody ceasars and they werent able to serve alcohol at 9am.
BEST FISH TACOS! I love the fish tacos so much, hands down best in city. I enjoy the popcorn served with means instead of bread, as much of my family has celiac and it provides a nice alternative.
