Great food, drinks, wine, and service!! Our server Laura was truly amazing. Absolutely was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had! My favourites were the tuna tartar and the short rib. We will be back!!
On a cozy Nova Scotia evening I went out for dinner at this recommended restaurant, after a while of doing donuts to find parking we finally found a spot and got in early for our reservation. The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere and is well decorated on theme, the staff were mostly friendly and welcoming. The food was fine, a bit overcooked and less spiced, definitely a bit underwhelming for the recommendations of the restaurant but still an enjoyable dining experience. If you’re in Halifax for a short amount of time I probably wouldn’t have this on the top of your list, but it’s not a bad option in anyway.
This place was incredible!! My husband and I were visiting from Toronto and it was our anniversary. Laura was really attentive and kind hearted. She took GREAT care of us. First they gave us complimentary bubbly, a red rose for me and an amuse-bouche that was really yummy (trout fish cakes with sauce). Followed by hot cheese bread with a chive oil garlic butter. We ordered the filet mignon and the rib eye (we subbed for ceasar salads and added chimichurri which was really good too). I added the 2 Oz lobster claw to it because I'm a savage but it was so worth it. They comped the dessert in the end which was really lovely and it was an overall amazing experience that I'll remember forever. Thanks so much Laura and the staff again, we had a wonderful time.
One of my top three restaurants in Halifax. My husband and I usually get the Five Fish Experience when we come, but this time I tried the Scallop Grenobloise and I'm so happy I did, because it was absolutely amazing. It might be my new favourite here. My husband enjoyed his Five Fish but commented that the half lobster tail, though good, was noticeably bigger when we came last year. Our waiter was attentive and professional, and our table by a window off the main room was perfect. Loved our experience and will continue coming back when we visit. No noticeable paranormal activity.
My 2nd favorite meal in Nova Scotia (after Bar Kismet). Loved the creativity in flavours and presentation, and everything was very well made. Service was exceptional as well, friendly and knowledgeable. Price is fair. Very pleased with our complementary desserts.
Had an incredible experience for dinner here! It was the highlight of our trip to Halifax. The service was absolutely impeccable. Huge shout out to our server Laura who was incredibly kind and made us feel special. The food was amazing, would highly recommend the 5 fish experience as their signature dish.
Great food beautiful plates but a bit over price. Great service! Our waitress was very nice and friendly. Trout cooked perfectly. lobster risotto was amazing. Halibut was overcooked just a bit and dried. Overall experience was great.
Thank you to the staff who made our dinner experience extremely memorable, specifically Laura. She went above and beyond for a displaced giftcard and provided the best service we have ever experienced. Thank you Laura. We highly recommend the food which left us stuffed and hungry for more.
One of the best meals Ive had in Halifax.
Expensive but it rocks. The service was great. Will go back when I have some disposable income.
My wife and I were visiting from Toronto and had this place recommended to us. So happy we went. It was the highlight of our visit. Beautiful venue, lovely atmosphere, amazing food. The Five Fisherman platter is incredible highly recommend.
Its been over one hour and Im still waiting for my food. Im very hangry. Also, nowhere to hang my coat. And my chair was broken. Edit: Portions kinda small. After waiting for so long and eating this amount Im still hungry. My server was nice though.
Bruh these guys gave us 3 mid scallops for $23 after an hour of bad service.. do not come if you want to be less hungry. Imagine spending 3 bills just for your 3 colleagues to be like well we have more food at home
Wonderful restaurant. Great selection of sea food.
Had an excellent dinner here with a group. Server was attentive and made the meal memorable.
We heard this was 1 if the best seafood restaurants in Halifax but it was expensive for tiny portions. Our server actually disappeared on us for an entire hour. I tried ordering another drink from a different server, but no one attended to us
Everything is true, great restaurant.
I came to this restaurant to enjoy my last day at Halifax and it was the best choice. The food was great and drinks were phenomenal. Bartender were very knowledgeable and caring!
Over priced for so so food. Very disappointed
I had the Five Fish risotto, which was not as good as I thought it would be honestly. The salmon was particularly overcooked and smelled a lot, although the halibut was cooked to perfection. When I asked about ghost stories, the bartender asked another waiter to come over to tell the stories since she didnt know them very well, which was nice. I think having an actual ghost tour type of an experience would be great addition to the restaurant.
Love their seafood dish, they even prepared dessert as it was my bff birthday
Excellent service, food, and drinks. Highly recommended.
Halifaxs original five star dining experience.
Wow, a must go. Fabulous menu. Great variety, oysters Rockefeller are amazing. So many great dishes.
Our server Laura was out of this world! She went above and beyond over and over to attend to us with her warm east coast hospitality. It will be a memorable night and I will definitely return. Food and drinks were excellent! Love this place highly recommend
Very nice
Just amazing ! Laura knew so much and was so kind. Food
Lovely seafood restaurant with lobster and oysters!
One of my favorite places to dine when in Halifax. Food is delicious, service is always great and I love the vibe of the restaurant. I will be back!
Definitely a hidden gem! The stonefruit salad, shrimps&mussels pasta, the 5 fish experience, the MP lobster dinner are highly recommended. Deep fried mushroom as a new product has a heavy taste of flour and fat. Service is exceptional with a take home surprise.
Fantastic restaurant ambiance and an unmatched culinary experience. Seafood prepared as it should be! If in Halifax do try the restaurant.
Our first visit and we had a wonderful evening. Well prepared food, broad menu, attentive (but not rushed) service, lots of smiles. There were two dining rooms on the second floor, and fortunately we passed through a bit too loud first room in a larger room with a perfect atmosphere tables nicely separated, lively background conversations good fun. Wholeheartedly recommend
Outstanding Experience at 5 Fishermen Restaurant I recently had the pleasure of dining at the 5 Fishermen in Halifax, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience. The food was simply outstanding every dish was beautifully prepared, fresh, and bursting with flavor. Whether you re a seafood lover or prefer other options, the menu has something for everyone. What truly elevated the evening was the impeccable service. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Their genuine passion for ensuring a great dining experience was clear. If you re in Halifax, I highly recommend making a reservation at 5 Fishermen. It s a dining experience you won t want to miss!
Ok. Really nice place in downtown Halifax. Great history( you should speak more about it) and an inviting atmosphere. Food wise I have you at 4. Loved local wine choice ( one red and one white). Scallops were exquisite. Halibut was delicious but rather small portion for 40$+ plate. This beautiful fish deserves a bit more love from the kitchen too. Beef and tuna tartars, same feedback. Good base ingredients but with a bit more love they have potential to be much better. Local oysters ( forgot the name but they were southern NS) were ok but nothing notable of you are a connoisseur. The service at the bar was excellent: quick, personable and pleasant. Hope this helps. Radion
This place is the biggest hype job ever, it sucks.
Amazing experience at The Five Fisherman tonight. Food was fantastic and our server, Laura, made it an incredible night. We had the 5 Fish Experience and the rack of lamb, both were done to perfection.
Stunning meal. Great value for the experience. Our service was a tad slow but only due to how busy the restaurant was.
We only stopped in and sat at the bar on the main floor and had some champagne and the oysters and both were remarkable. Also, the incredible bartender told us about his experiences in this seemingly haunted place. Its the second oldest building in the entire city of Halifax, so it has an incredibly Rich history that is well worth hearing about while you dine on some fantastic food and in a fantastic atmosphere.
Great seafood experience! One of the best in Halifax.
It s our first time back since 2018. Decor and ambiance is beautiful. We made reservations in advance and were seated immediately. Service is friendly but unfortunately the kitchen was extremely slow. Our server did apologize for it more than once saying their kitchen was backed up due to several large groups. I found the scallop ceviche bland and disappointing. It looked pretty but that was it. The stone fruit and bitter salad was lovely with endive and radicchio playing well with the dressing. Five fish experience entree was 5 star. Risotto was cooked perfectly and the seafood and fish was delicious. The oven roasted halibut was also 5 star. Radishes done different ways with the hazelnut gremolata and the sauce perfection. The drunk dude who was sharing his opinions on everything quite loudly with everyone was quite charming . I get that you can t control your guests. .
Elegant restaurant, novel and delicious food, wonderful service -- the perfect location to celebrate a special occasion OR not. Ready to return if only it was not so far away. (Wish I could recall our waitress to give her a shout out. Wow, wow, wow!)
Great meal. Lobster was amazing. Our waiter enhanced the overall experience. Butter should be available for potatoes. Was given drawn butter which was oily imo. Apps were a bit lacking. Exquisite presentation of food.
Quality - well done lobster and well done halibut Portion- Halibut is was maybe 6 oz Service - dinner arrived 10 mins after ordering We were done eating dinner 30 mins after sitting down. Only BAD meal in Halifax
It was our first dinner in Halifax after traveling from Europe. Ethan was really attentive and the food was delicious.
We had good food during our stay in Halifax. That nigth at Five fiahermen was by far our best diner. I went almost 20 years ago and i can say that it ages very well. Ethan, our server, provided an excellent service and even spoke in French with the kids. Dietary restrictions: Peanut allergies Kid-friendliness: For older kids.
First trip to Halifax and this restaurant was highly recommended by friends. Laura was an outstanding server making the entire dining experience perfect from start to finish. She moved us to a booth on her own accord for a more pleasant dine in setting, complimentary wine and dessert. The food was outstanding. I had the crab and shrimp Rangoon and 1/2 tail of lobster. My husband had the ribeye steak and loved it, as well. Eat here the next time youre in Halifax. You wont regret it!
Really great!
Food , bar and service - EXCELLENT. Recommend scallops
I have never had such an amazing evening!! Food was fabulous and the service was even better!!!!!
Delicious food! Great staff! I will definitely go again the next time I am in Halifax!
We had an extraordinary dining experience at The Five Fisherman yesterday, and it was one to remember! The evening began with an amuse-bouche of salmon, a delightful teaser that set the tone for the evening. For our appetizer, we savored the beef tartare it was beautifully seasoned and absolutely melted in the mouth. The highlight of the night was their signature 5 fish dish. Each piece of seafood was cooked to perfection, showcasing the restaurant s commitment to quality and freshness. The pairing of flavors was exquisite, making every bite a delight. One of the best risotto I ve ever tasted!!! To top it all off, our server, Laura, was phenomenal. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure our experience was flawless from start to finish. Paired with a bottle of Tidal Bay, this dinner was an unforgettable journey through the flavors of Nova Scotia. Note of peach, citrus and pear. Highly recommend The Five Fisherman for anyone looking to indulge in an exceptional dining experience. We need a location to Toronto! Ps. I think there is room for improvement for your hosting team on the seating arrangement. We weren t happy with the table but the gentleman never came back to give a positive or negative answer. Good part we were so happy with Laura! Then, a table of five wanted to move to the couches which he couldn t do it but another table(of 2) was able to get that giant table. I mean come on you are giving an exceptional service and are definitely better than Four Seasons Toronto! Your hosts can do better.
If you are also a seafood lover, this is definitely the best choice!! Service, environment, food taste is impeccable.
Wonderful food.
This is one of the best Restaurants I have ever been the food is like to other the staff are great and dont even get me started on the haunted upstairs I went up there if you think you can handle scary stuff go up there that might change your mind 10 out of 10 Restaurant Parking: The parking was not to bad I park probably about 200 meters away which is a fine walking distance Kid-friendliness: The kid menu is like no other the kids wagu burger looked pretty big and not that far off from the adult burger
We got seated downstairs not sure why, the menu was small but amazing food! Overall we loved it!
Dined their every time I visited Halifax many times and trips to Halifax NS.
Five fishermen was on couple different restaurant recommendation lists (eater Montreal being one of them) and being a seafood lover, I was excited to give them a try. I ordered their scallop ceviche at the recommendation of the bartender serving me and it was a-OK. And since those resto lists had Five fish experience as an entree rec, I ordered that, too: I was expecting to get relatively full for a $53 seafood dish but that wasnt the case as all the fishes on the plate were quite tiny in size. I added their sautéed maritime mushrooms and that was pretty delish. If it werent for the mushrooms, I would have still been a bit hungry at the end of my meal. Service was pretty decent. Was expecting a bit more attentive service for my check being over $130 plus taxes and tips as a solo diner on this visit. Their red sangria was pretty nice and old fashioned was not bad. Sadly their chocolate dessert let me down - was just a bit better than what Id get from a grocery store.
This is a beautiful restaurant with great service. Our party of 6 all enjoyed the food choices but all agreed that portion size was a little bit light. The 12oz Ribeye was very pricey at 56 bucks and showed up to the table 7-8 oz max. It was a really odd cut for Ribeye with a huge run of gristle that absolutely should have been trimmed. It was cooked perfectly though and tasted great but...value missed the mark. The folks who had the 5 Fisherman experience raved about their food as did my wife who had the trout. Its a really beautiful restaurant with a limited menu and great presentation if not a touch pretentious.
Simply the best
We had a fantastic dinner!! Delicious! Our waitress was fantastic, very attentive, friendly and never was without anything we wanted.
Had our anniversary dinner here and was genuinely blown away by the food. My husband had a buttery filet mignon. My salmon was perfect. We even ate all of the vegetables. Totally cleared our plates. The crab cake we had as a starter was fantastic. There is not a single part of our meal that wasnt delicious and satisfying. Our server was friendly and had a great sense of when to return to the table. It never felt like she was interrupting, but we also never had to flag her down. We were already talking about bringing friends here the next time they come to visit before we finished our meal. I was having such a good time, I forgot to take any pictures. Well be back for sure and Id absolutely recommend this place.
Still one of the best seafood places in Halifax! We went here with the family and really enjoyed the food and the service. Lots of options for all ages and good value for money overall.
Good food great location and staff are very helpful
Honestly, the service, taste, and atmosphere were all good. However, I thought the price was too expensive... The basic dish, dessert, and sparkling water cost a total of $120... The moment I saw the receipt, I couldnt believe my eyes.
Had dinner here, great atmosphere and service. The food was great, had fish cake for starter and scallops for the meal Worth a visit.
Had the five fisherman plate, delish. Well prepared and great service. Just a tad loud inside but tolerable when the large table left. I would return here in a heartbeat and highlky recommend this restaurant as one of the top five in Halifax.
A relative who lives locally recommended The Five Fishermen, and Im glad we took her advice! The lobster was the best Ive ever had! Luxurious but still welcoming ambiance a few steps away from the liveliness of the harbour. It was all simply exquisite all around: first off, service. Our server Mercedes made our dinner feel special and offered great advice. Shes a treasure. We also should thank the rest of the staff: I mixed up our reservation time and they were very accommodating. Someone who I think was management checked in on us: we felt very cared for amidst the overall professionalism and attention to detail. The quality of the food is very high! The cocktails had wonderful depth of flavour. On our servers advice, we added lobster and scallops to the delicious seafood platter to share. We finished with a wonderful Panna cotta. Overall, everything felt elevated and worth the cost. My one suggestion is to not go if totally famished: the portions were reasonable, but not excessive. When the food is this good, thats perfectly understandable. For the cost-conscious, this is a wonderful precision splurge that gives excellent value for the money, and favors quality over quantity.
We were served by Laura. She provided us with an EXCELLENT service. Food was great !
Pricey for portion size.
Excellent seafood. Very good lobster tail as part of the platter. Portions were on the smaller side but excellent overall
Had the best meal here is a very long time! They were able to accommodate a dairy free meal. And the service was above and beyond. Thank you to our server, Crystal and Ethan, for sharing ghost stories!! Would totally recommend eating here!!
Everything was fantastic. Manager was engaging and ensured our experience was enjoyable. Our server, Kristen, was one of the best I ve had in a long time. Attentive, knowledgeable, engaging with impeccable timing and a sense of humour. Highly recommend to anyone. Food was perfectly prepared and seasoned. Only wish I ordered 2 servings of carrots and pea risotto (don t think I ve ever said that about carrots before).
Saw this place in a listing for weird places to visit. Evidently, the place is haunted. Alright, I am in! Atmosphere was low key, low lighting but still begged for attention. The food was an art form. For our last dinner in Halifax, this was the bomb! It satisfied all of our needs and then some!
Hi. Being honest. Great meal.great time.great service. Thank you.
10s 10s 10s across the board! What a beautiful space and tasty food but even better service! Jane the server was superb, went above and beyond and super friendly, accommodating and generous and all great service! Would highly recommend this restaurant just because of her!
Good lobster dinner
We went there to celebrate our anniversary! Food was really good especially the lobster dinner and five fish experience<3 and the staff *Laura* was really the sweetest, I would rate her service 100 stars but its limited to 5 here. Strongly recommend this place! And good job Laura!
Caveat: Im writing this review from the perspective of an American. Cocktails were good. Atmosphere was nice; upscale & trendy. Food was pretty good. Service was slower than it should have been.
Excellent place for fine dining. Expensive, but worth it. Similar to The Keg but with a maritime theme and menu.
Our favourite restaurant we attended twice. Vibe, staff and food was top notch. We ordered scallop ceviche (every bite is a burst of flavour), beef tartare, tuna tartare, mussels, crab cakes, local oysters and The Five Fish (shrimp was best ever) highly recommend recommend and make a reso . Recommended dishes
Amazing seafood, with a higher end atmosphere.
What a great place!! Ethan, our waiter was incredible! Shucking our oysters took extra time. In the meantime, they gave us a free Prosecco, which is really nice. I had the lamb chops which wet delicious. My partner had the five seafood plate, portions were small. However, the flavour was really good. The rose at the end of the meal was a really nice touch. Highly recommend this place.
The food was delicious. The atmosphere was good enough to impress my wife (hard to do) and they were super friendly. Loved it.
Wonderful experience. We mainly shared appetizers around the table which was perfect for our group. Dietary restrictions: They work with you to provide dietary recommendations and customization.
Wow! We just had such an amazing dinner at The Five Fishermen. Honestly I could name all the dishes we had but they were all so excellent I think anything you try will be amazing!
it was fantastic! The lobster was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection every dish was a delight. The service was top-notch; our server was attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a memorable meal. I can t wait to return! I recommend, honestly.
Portion too small, food was good
Highly recommend the five fish dinner, a sample of all the best seafood!
We had the seafood chowder. Too expensive for the quantity, not alot of seafood and too salty. Would have been nice to have a piece of bread.
REALLY, REALLY NICE RESTAURANT WITH GREAT FOOD, GREAT AMBIENCE AND FANTASTIC SERVICE.
Had a terrific meal, everything was impressive, from the host who seated us, to our server (Jane), the appetizers and main course were spectacular. The menu is compact and stellar and even the cocktails were exceptional! Ill be back!
We were totally thrilled! The lobster was simply awesome
Nice venue, I visited twice while visiting Halifax. The first time was excellent thanks to the great server we had. I wish I had asked for her name. Her recommendations were great and our party of 4 had a great experience. We ordered the Crispy Maitake Mushroom, Beef Tartare, Truffle Fries, Cape dOr Salmon, The Five Fish Experience, 5 Fishermen Burger, Pea &Lemon Risotto. Everything was tasty. I just would recommend the restaurant to add a fresh non bitter salad to their appetizer menu. It is missing in my opinion therefore I give the restaurant 4.5 stars. The desserts were excellent especially the chocolate Bar. I do recommend this place if youre ok with the prices.
The service at this place is terrific to be honest. It seems the manager is on top of things at all times. We ordered the lobster dinner in addition to the chowder. The lobster was ok but nothing to be excited about. The chowder on the other hand was outstanding, but too expensive for a very small portion. The overall atmosphere of the place is nice, Id try it again but order different things
Great Seafood fair, fresh, elegant no fuss dishes period great service & location
First time in Halifax and I think this place was definitely a great find! The food was amazing; the 5 fish experience is a must-try, and dont forget the lemon panna cotta dessert and the chocolate mousse! The service was DIVINE! Ethan was so nice and knowledgeable about the dishes, and he also suggested a great wine to pair with our food! Thanks, Ethan, we had a great night and will definitely come visit again when we visit Halifax next time.
What an incredible experience. The food was fantastic, the service impeccable. A must-see in Halifax!
Go on happy hour.. oysters 1.5 cad each what a deal.. we ended up eating like 24.. so cheap. Lobster dinner was nice. Totally recommended Food
Not even a seafood lover, but this place makes some of the best seafood Ive ever had! I can see why its one of the best eateries in Halifax The service was also exceptional, thanks to Defina (I hope the spelling is correct). We had a wonderful time and Im you will too!
Exceptional service and food, the staff go out of their way to make sure youre having a great dining experience. I highly recommend the Rainbow Trout and Oysters Rockefeller!
Great job all round ! Would definitely bring more friends and family while visiting
The food was great, a little rushed on the service though. Drinks came after appetizers. Best scallop dish Ive ever had though.... Food is amazing.
Its a cozy place with lots of great seafood dishes
One of the best meals Ive ever had!! Amazing service and lovely atmosphere. I would say dress up rather than go in casual.
Service was great. Atmosphere was fine. Food was good. Got the full lobster and it was good, the sides didnt add anything. Expensive. Overall very comparable to something like the keg.
Wow! What a beautiful dinner! Skyler was a very attentive server. The apps and cocktails were just perfect (try the mushroom app - oh my goodness!). The signature 5 Fisherman s dish rounded the meal off perfectly! Highly recommend! But hey - bring back the mussels and salad bar!! At least for a season - see how it goes!!
great food, amazing staff can t wait to come back here! thank you Skyler for great service
Our waitress was nice . Food was good but for $53 a plate there was not enough fish , a 1/2 a tiny lobster tail, 1 scallop, 2 tiny pieces of fish, 1 shrimp , looked like about $20 worth for all the food. Very disappointed
Amazing service and food would give more stars if I could
The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. Its pricey, but its worth it. Portions were perfect and beautifully presented. Our server was very friendly and even took us to see the haunted bathroom and tell us about the history of the building. I may go again tomorrow - especially for dessert!
Over priced, under seasoned, and poor service. The food was good but not great, and definitely not worth the price tag. Our waitress seemed to keep forgetting about us. Would not go back.
Our first time eating in Halifax, this place was recommended (its said to be haunted). Delicious seafood and drinks. We had some cocktails and the five fish experience and highly recommend. 1 platter per person would be suitable for anyone with an average to heavy appetite (recommend an appetizer, too, for someone with a bigger appetite). Our best meal in NS, easily. Cocktails are not sugary sweet, which I appreciated. Old fashioned selections were good, and I enjoyed a Hemingway was Wrong. If you eat like a bird, expect to take home a small amount of leftovers. Come here and splurge for some delicious seafood. Vegetarian options: Limited vegetarian/vegan selections, a salad and a mushroom shareable. You could ask them to customize, but this isnt really a place for people who dont eat fish. Dietary restrictions: Flexible chefs. Kid-friendliness: Atmosphere was chic but many kids dining. Tables spread out so noise isnt as much of an issue.
Great meal, and with a great story about the buildings spooky history.
Great food!!!
I had the filet mignon and birthday dessert sampler. All of it was absolutely delicious. My cocktail was a little light but easily got another shot to stiffen it up. The carrots are perfectly caramelized, the steak was perfectly medium and charred on top. You can taste every flavor profile in the dessert. My family loves seafood and i heard not one complaint. We loved everything. The entrees all came out together. The ambiance is romantic, warm and classy. Our server Mercedes exceeded all expectations!
We really enjoyed our visit and our server was just great. Food came out fresh and fast. Cocktails, wine, and food were all delicious. Just in town visiting, but would definitely go back next time.
We had a great meal here. We loved the lobster dinner, crab cakes, and boursin mussels. The service was attentive and accommodating, thanks Erin.
Great food, service and ambiance. Would definitely comeback.
Excellent! Local wines and well prepared seafood. Nice dessert possibilities. I ll plan to return this week as they re debuting an updated menu, thank you!
Exquisite.
What an incredible spot in downtown halifax. The atmosphere was very nice, inviting. The food was utterly wonderful. Thanks for a great experience.
Had the best meal Ive ever had here. The food was absolutely incredible and the service from Laura was amazing. Highly recommend everything, it was all so delicious. Cant wait to go back Food
Everything was delicious and our server, Laura, was such a joy to deal with! Ill definitely be back!
This place was amazing. The food was some of the best Ive ever had, and the service was truly excellent (shout out to Laura who is one of the best servers Ive ever had)! My friends and I were there for a celebration and they truly made it so special. Also, for the food that is being served the prices are truly very good.
We had the best night at Five Fishermen. Laura our server was absolutely amazing, she was so attentive and recommended excellent dishes and wine pairings. The overall atmosphere was wonderful, the staff were all amazing, and to top it all off the food was absolutely incredible. Food
The food was so flavorful. Fresh vibrant seafood. It was our anniversary, and the server was very generous. Complimentary procesco & appy and dessert. Had the 5 fish experience
Had mussels and local wine!! Great service and history of the place!
Amazing service, even better food! We went while on our honeymoon and they had champagne and roses brought to us, and a candlelit table overlooking a garden. Our server had great suggestions and was super pleasant, the manager came by to make sure we had everything we needed. And the food was top notch, the halibut in particular was amazing. Cant wait to go back some day!
My fiance and I had our best dining experience on the last night of our East coast vacation. Laura treated us unbelievably well and we cant thank her enough. The food was plentiful and delicious. Thanks for everything, well be back!
They Went above and beyond for Birthday Celebration. We got complimentary drinks and appetizers from the Chef all on the house and free deserts for the Celebrant. It was amazing and the service is top notch. They lit three candles for the celebrant to blow out The food is so good and yummy the on grill section Lamb is to die for . So many good things Parking: If you go after 6pm you can park on the street for free
If you want a high end experience you come here.
The service is excellent, but unfortunately the food is awful. The seafood being over cooked in a seafood restaurant is surprising. Everything we ate was bad in its own unique way. This place may just be a tourist trap. Word of caution: read all the other reviews about the seafood being over cooked and the food being bad. They matched our experience exactly. This was by far the worst restaurant we ate at during our six day trip to Nova Scotia
We were visiting from Kelowna, BC and joined some friends who live in Halifax for dinner. They recommended Five Fishermen for dinner. The restaurant is beautiful, the food was fresh and delicious and our server Laura made the night that much more special. Highly recommend and will be back if in Halifax again.
Visit: June 2024 One of the best seafood meals Ive had! Got the five fish experience and it was amazing. All of the seafood was cooked perfectly, so it was juicy, spring with the right amount of bite, juicy, and moist. The risotto as well was insanely good. It was so flavourful and played well with the cheese and the seafood. The whole dining experience was great. The atmosphere was very fancy and the staff was extremely kind and welcoming. Definitely worth a try for the experience and the great food. I feel like the price is really justified! Our friend had some specific vegetarian and alcohol restrictions, and they had an entire menu for vegetarian options if you ask for it. As well, they were very open to doing any modifications if necessary to the meal to meet dietary needs Vegetarian options: There is a separate vegetarian menu you can ask for
Wow!! Just wow. Exceptional service and delicious food. This was one of the best dining experiences I ve had. The staff anticipate your every need. The owner visits to make sure everything is perfect.
The Lobster was great
Great atmosphere and some of the best service on the planet. And the food is fantastic. Will definitely be back next time Im in Nova Scotia.
The service was great, and the staff were pleasant, but the food was awful. I had heard good things about this place and wanted to ignore the bad reviews, but unfortunately, they were right. The food was bland and lacked flavor. We had the lobster meal and the medley with risotto, and everything was tasteless. The clarified butter was flavorless, and the vegetables tasted as if they had just been steamed and thrown on the plate, same with the lobster. Adding garlic, salt, and spices to the cooking water could have improved it somewhat. Fresh cracked pepper alone isnt going to save a meal. For the price point, we expected to get our moneys worth. Based on all the 5-star reviews, it seems the locals love it, but I dont believe the Acadian food palate suits tourists.
I absolutely loved my experience at the 5 fishermen. Everyone was so marvelous and the food was scrumpdiddlyumptious. Special shoutout to Mehvish for going above and beyond with her service, I hope the owners know what a (hardworking and amazingly friendly) gem they have employed!! As a waitress myself its important to me that everything is clean and presented well, and the Five Fishermen definitely have that down to a t. Going back to Winnipeg Im definitely taking this memory with me!
Throughly enjoyed the experience from the moment we walked in from the staff, decor, food. Everything was exceptional
It was such a pleasant experience with an incredible server by the name of Crystal. Just the nicest of people and truly some of the best food you ll ever have. The 5 fish experience was magnificent. Would recommend to anyone!
Always a great spot. Very combfortable goto. Especially sitting at the bar
From my experience this is best place in town
Good on Tuesday but worse on was worse really bad Irish Coffee
I tried the Five Fish Experience and it was great!!
Very good seafood and service, absolutely amazing!!
The only restaurants where the grumpy grandparents said the food s decent on our trip through the Eastern Provinces. All jokes aside, the food tasted amazing, the chef knows how to bring out the taste of the food rather than overshadowing it with sauces. Our server Krystal was super helpful when it came to ordering and timely when cleaning up. Would definitely revisit if we drop by Halifax again.
The food and drinks were delicious. The seafood chowder portion was a little small for $20 but other than that it was one of the best seafood chowders Ive had.
The food is good but we waited 45min for the dessert to come,, and the Lobster that i had is sticking on its shell so much so i think its not fresh
We traveled far for this meal and we were not disappointed. Exceptional service by the entire team. Exceptional seafood restaurant, highly recommend Food
I returned to this restaurant for the first time since my childhood in the 80s, I remember this as my absolute favorite place with a true Halifax Maritime decor of lobster traps and creeky plank flooring. I was dissapointed to see it had been updated to a modern, upscale restaurant. In any case, we ordered the crab cakes and the five fishermen experience platter. The crab cakes were good, not great, the risotto on the platter was gluey and the arborio was under cooked, the lobster tail was smaller than the shrimp and tasted like salinated water, the salmon was tiny and thin and not especially flavourful. The best part was the halibut, but it was very small. I will keep this restaurant in my good memories and find a new favorite for today.
I ordered the halibut. The portions are a joke. Ive used a bigger piece of fish as bait before. Waited two hours and left starving. This place has gone downhill big time.
Absolutely great food!
Excellent value for money! The employees are very welcoming and warm!
Ethan certainly took good care of us. Must visit if you re in Halifax. Great food and service. Food : 5/5
Had an incredible dinner with a friend! Laura was our server and gave us an absolutely amazing service experience. She provided amazing options to customize their pasta dish exactly to my liking, provided us with a complimentary appetizer that was to die for and champagne to top the evening off. Thank you for a great evening!
Excellent service excellent staff excellent food excellent beer
We have been here twice during our journey in Halifax, and this has been so far the best food we have had in Nova Scotia. Service and management are extremely knowledgeable and polite. Their menu and wine selection are respectively strong and concise, which is very hard to find in the restaurant industry nowadays. I, we, highly recommend this restaurant to those who still enjoy life.
My brother and I wanted to try this during our visit to Halifax and it was the best food we have had during our trip. The service was impeccable, the food sumptuous. We recommend the Five Fish main course with some entrees and maybe cocktails to wash it all down. We thank the team and our waiter for the great experience and we will definitely recommend it to anyone passing by Halifax!
atmosphere was lively. However, there were a couple of drawbacks that kept me from giving it a perfect rating. 5 fish expérience plate wasnt fresh I couldnt finish it. lobester tale was overcooked. Unfortunately, this took away from the natural sweetness of the lobster meat Im not sure for how long was it frozen before cooking. Id give it 2/5 The burger on my wifes plate was a bit bland. It could have benefited from a more flavorful patty or bolder condiments. 1/5 I dont think I would go there again.
The Five Fisherman Experience was better than adequate, I think I got oversold by friends that have dined here. It was all good except for the lobster risotto which tasted like low tide. However, the waitress we had was one of the best I ve ever had, I wish I could remember her name. Recognizing we were from out of town she really made up for any shortcomings.
Had dinner with my partner and his friend and wife. They had lots of food selections and I got pasta with lobster.
I celebrated my birthday here yesterday it was such a treat. The food was good (scallops were tad bit on the salty side) and the decor and vibe was amazing but, what stood out was the service! Special mention to Laura who really made me feel special . I enjoyed my time and appreciate the initiatives and gestures she took to make my experience worthwhile and enjoy my birthday dinner. Highly recommended this place to everyone.
Good food and great location. The building also has some cool history attached to it.
Awesome place, our server Erin was great. Going to a seafood place with seafood and nut allergies is always risky, but they took care and didnt have to worry. I ordered the pork chop and it was awesome, my wife had the seafood platter with a bunch of different seafood tasting. Would return for sure! Dietary restrictions: They were very careful to make sure everything was good with my seafood and nut allergies.
Thank for the Feb dine around event, 5 fisherman has a $50 for 3course menu. It is good to have friends to come with you as the choices are not much (recommend the even number). We also order extra 3 more appetisers, and i wanna to say all of them are good, especially the soup!!! The main course under the the dine around menu is not bad. However the seafood dish is pretty small for us. Lastly the dessert are great! But personlly i think they are too sweet while my gf thinks they are prefect! PS: Their cocktails are good as well! Try the one why so serious
I ve never posted any reviews on the Internet about any restaurants however, I felt I had to do it for this one. The food was really good atmosphere excellent what really make a big difference for me today was the service it was impeccable. We were celebrating in milestone our server went over and above everyone working there, so professional. This place has been there forever has a super great reputation. Today was extra special because at the end of the Dinner my wife had tears in her eyes for what her server had done for us thank you very much. We really appreciate it. We are not from the area but for now on when we come, this is going to be our go to place. Sylvain
Just had my birthday dinner here tonight. Our sever was so attentive and treated us like special guests. The food was delicious and the wine perfect! I was also gifted a bouquet of long stem roses. best service I ve had in years.
The chowder with a crab cake in it was amaaaaazing
Great experience. We had a few issues at the beginning but, our server, Laura, went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. The food and atmosphere were great. Very friendly staff. A must if you are in Halifax.
Probably the best meal Ive ever eaten. My wife and I came to Halifax for our honeymoon and have never experienced better food and hospitality than The Five Fishermen. The building has a rich history, the service is so friendly and the food is next level. Treat yourself to dinner here!
So impressed by this restaurant! The interior design created a wonderful ambiance, the space was much bigger than expected. The servers were very on point and kind. The food was spectacular with a stacked menu that makes me want to come back for more. Vegetarian options: Ask for the vegetarian menu!
The next time we visit Halifax we will be having another dinner here, the food and service was incredible!
Highly recommend this place. Had the seafood chowder it was yum. For mains had their Halibut and grilled Salmon both where good options.
What a great place/ 100% oriented on service. Laura was the best I usually dont like eating alone but this actually felt like I wasnt alone. Food is excellent, definitely will go back for those scallops often!
Absolutely great place! Food was so well done, atmosphere and service was incredible. Really enjoyed ourselves here!
Tyler was our server. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the absolute best classic old fashion I ve ever had from BC to here. The food was not only delicious, but extremely pleasing to look at. The lighting was perfect, as well as the music in the background. Easily a 10 out of 10 and I will return every time I come to the east coast.
Laura and Tyler were exceptional. We had an incredible experience directly because of their attention and care. I can t wait to go back. Highly recommended. Food : 5/5 |
Everything about this restaurant is 5 stars! Our group had most of the menu and everything was amazing. The favs were the crab cakes, oysters and lobster mac! Our server went out of her way to impress and the Peanut butter dessert was fantastic end to the meal
My husband and I tried 5 Fisherman for the first time on Friday night, they had a dine around Halifax menu that we tried, and also ordered the tuna tartar. Our server Laura was hands down the best server I have EVER had! She was attentive, sweet, personable and very knowledgeable! They were out of both beers we had chosen and proceeded to comp our replacement choice! How above and beyond was that?! She set the bar for our entire evening! The food was so flavorful and fresh, the plating and care to detail was impeccable! I would definitely rate this 10 stars! I will always highly highly recommend 5 Fisherman and hopefully youre lucky enough to have Laura as your server!
Was not busy when we went, the server was perfect, the place was beautiful, every item we got we loved, timed well and done perfectly. The only complaint would be the one bathroom needs a makeover as it does not belong in this type of establishment.
Well, I had food poisoning twice - separated by 25 years. Not normally a mussel eater but was convinced by my dining companions... I remember eating one that was mushy - but I thought well its in the bowl it must be ok. I should have passed on it. Second time basically the same thing except I thought no way it could happen again..... My fault. Rest of the meal was great, but 12 hours in the hotel bathroom after on both occasions wasnt fun. Have stuck to lobster, shrimp and scallops since.
While the food was good, the waiter did not explain that the fries($10.) were a separate cost from the $22. Scallops (3 on the plate)
Frozen lobster
Visited here for my husbands birthday. The food was AMAZING! Service was great and our server even brought out a special birthday dessert. Looking forward to our next visit. The Old Fashioned do not disappoint!
Food was ok. Lol, they took my jacket and lost my key. I stepped out and it was past 10pm. Knocked door, called restaurant - no response....
Super nice atmosphere, impeccable service and even beyond our expectations. We were a group of 14 and they did it like pros. We will definitely come back
Great food , great restaurant and staff was amazing . If you are in town , try it !!
Thank you to The Five Fishermen for their part in giving my partner an unforgettable birthday. We visited in September 2023, from Toronto & made reservations about a month in advance. I appreciated how our server noted it was a special celebration -- the complimentary drinks & dessert were a wonderful surprise. In addition, our server also gave us both a beer on the house to apologize for the slow service on what was a busy night, but to be honest, we didnt even realize there was a delay. Also appreciate our server humouring our questions re: the history of the restaurant. She was great and I regret not posting this review earlier so I couldve remembered her name. Foodwise, would recommend the crab cakes & Five Fish Experience. After touring the Cabot Trail, we had the pleasure of eating many crab cakes, but these were 100% the best. Separate vegetarian menu for those who are so inclined.
