1662 Barrington St, Halifax, NS B3J 2A2, Canada
Barrington Steakhouse & Oyster Bar focuses on Atlantic Beef products, Maritime beef, aged and cut in house. Our beef is cooked to perfection, and served with fine wines, craft beer, and maritime oysters to provide guests with a memorable experience.
I will say I am absolutely in love with the service knowledge about whiskey and I love their whiskey selection. I will also say I hate the fact that I paid $30 for two scallops. There was nothing special about them. They were not bad but I make better scallops at home. $15 for a scallop to me is over the top ridiculous. I have no problem paying high-end prices, but I’ve been to better places and paid less for more and better food.
We ordered Cigar tenderloin and Tenderloin for dinner, medium-rare. The Cigar was delicious and fantastic compared to the Tenderloin. I ordered scallops for appetizers which also had amazing taste! Highly recommend this restaurant if you travel to Halifax❣️
Wonderful restaurant! Service was above and beyond, shout out to our waitress Olivia! She was super friendly and enthusiastic. She took great care of us. Super professional and helpful. Celebrated my birthday there. The lobster bisque was super flavourful and the half lobster tail was a very pleasant surprise! The tenderloin steak was done to perfection! The chef is very talented! The creme brulée was also very creamy. 10/10 recommend! A true Halifax gem! Love it!
The atmosphere is very adult and very stylish. We ordered oyster, lobster and steak. The steaks were aged and very tender. Drinks were a wide variety of wines.
Went here for dinner on my vacation in Halifax. The cozy, dim lighting set a warm and inviting mood that made the evening feel extra special. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing, clearly made with top-notch ingredients. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall luxurious feel of the meal. If you're looking for a great place to enjoy a special night out, I definitely recommend.
Good service, nice ambience, ok food. The water was especially outstanding though. The way the ice cubes frolicked in the glass and crunched under my teeth was amazingly refreshing.
Food was excellent, server was absolutely amazing. We were seated at an excellent spot and everyone was very nice. We went here for our wedding anniversary. My only real disappointment (and it’s a big disappointment) was with the menu availability. Every menu item I initially selected was not available and so I had to resort to a second choice at every course. It was really unfortunate, as it was my wedding anniversary, and I did want what I had already decided on.
Went to Barrington Steakhouse for my birthday and got cold food, slow service and a high bill. Our party of 4 waited about 20 minutes before our server came to take our appetizer orders. Then we waited 30 minutes to get the apps and another 30 to get our mains. While I don’t mind waiting for good food, ALL of our mains were cold. On top of that, the house bread was salty, my lobster risotto was undercooked, and I found a piece of the lobster shell in the risotto. We were truly disappointed in our experience and I anticipated eating at this restaurant all week. Also they don’t do anything special for your birthday. There were 2 other parties in the restaurant with birthdays, and they got a single balloon by their tables. I didn’t get a balloon until one of the other birthday parties left. How upsetting! 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND

Beautiful restaurant! Amazing food.
Best service youll get in town.
Couldnt have been better. From the greeting at the door; table near the fire; coats taken; comfortable seating; it started just right. Gaetan, our server made everything seemless, exciting and worth the experience. His shadow was very competent, following his direction to a t. Food was well above expectations. Sauces made your tastbuds want more; steaks exactly as ordered; portions were more than adequate. Actually got everything requested; very timely, never rushed or waiting; always anticipated. Extremely pleased we chose this restaurant. If you can get in Gaetans section, you wont have another worry your whole evening.
I just had a beer on the counter I liked the service but unfortunately I didnt have time to eat something because I was waiting for the bus but I liked the place and I liked the service
The food and service were awesome, especially our server.
Took my wife out for her birthday dinner and was not disappointed. Absolutely fell in love with food, service and space. Will definitely be back.
These guys had a stall a sommo festival. Hour plus wait for food and half the food cancelled after waiting over an hour. Lobster roll was laughable and we were straight up served raw potatoes, maybe partially microwaved at best.
We came in on a Monday, today @ 730 to sit @ bar which was empty, told we wouldnt be able to order a drink or even oysters as they were so busy with private party. Why even stay open to public? Just say youre closed for private party.
Barrington Steakhouse offers extraordinary food that truly impresses. Each dish bursts with flavor, making it a delight for steak lovers. However, the service leaves much to be desired. On multiple visits, weve encountered painfully slow service, with long waits even just to receive our drinks. Its frustrating because the quality of the food is exceptional, but the poor service has made us reconsider our frequent visits. If they could improve their service, Barrington would be a standout destination.
Whenever we come to town this is our go to place. Tara always remembers our orders and is so warm, friendly and other than the delicious food she s the reason we come in over and over. We love the oysters with the freshly grated horseradish and martinis with bleu cheese olives.
We ordered the T-bone steak medium rare ,it is juicy and tasty!
The freshest, best tasting Oysters Ive had, but the star of the show was the Beef Wellington. Often the pastry is an afterthought, but the quality of the pastry (browned on all sides), the surrounding mushroom layer and the filet were exceptional. The order is PLENTY for two people (16 ounce filet). The entire Wellington was the best Ive had. Overall one great restaurant.
Thank you Neil for making our night in Halifax so memorable and full of East Coast Hospitality. Cheers from T.O.
Unless you have 3 hours to wait for food I wouldn t bother
Best steak in town
Great service couldnt ask for a better waitress thanks Olivia! Will definitely be coming back highly recommend this place to anyone thats in the area looking for a good drink and a great meal!
Best steakhouse in Halifax, number 1 with a bullet. I got the Cigar Tenderloin and the other half had a Coffee Aged Strip, served with a glorious red wine jus both of these steaks absolutely slapped, sides were delicious and plentiful, would order the Mushrooms again but probably skip the mash and sprouts next time in favor of something else. They had a dessert menu but we didnt have it in us, next time! The service was top notch and my dietary needs (Celiac) were taken seriously without making a fuss. I cant wait to come back, I must have an anniversary or something coming up and if not Ill have to invent one. Dietary restrictions: Handled my Celiac needs beautifully, almost no surprise gluten on the menu and great kitchen practices.
Good dinner with friends. Lovely ambience, good food and good service. Reservation recommended.
5 Star
Neil has 10 stars. Great service and conversation. Meal was awesome indeed. My complaint is 22.00 for a glass of pinot grigio by the establishment
Hands down best steak in Canada
We went there while visiting Halifax on July 1st and was disappointed. The food tasted great but portions were small and costs are high. Service was very, very slow. I think they had to call in extra staff and they did not appear to be happy working on a holiday. When things dont go right for management, that is not a customers problem. They are there for the food and atmosphere. If management cannot provide a pleasant experience, they need to offer the customer a complementary drink, or appetizer and an apology for the issues. Even though I dont drink, the offer would have been nice. Overall we did not enjoy our experience.
I got the burger, truffle Mac and cheese with shrimp and it was the worst thing ever. The Mc and Cheese was so runny bland and disgusting. My burger was actually charred. I got a to go box to show you the Mac and cheese and the pictures don t do it any justice. My friend got the lobster tail poached with steak and it was more than terrible for her as well which is sad because it was her birthday. Also for the price point and experience it s so not worth it. One shrimp is 10$ in what world that s so bland to. Our server sat us but didn t bring us any menus for twenty minutes. Not to be a Karen but not a good experience overall.
Had a guys night out here a few months ago. Steaks were good quality meat and cooked as requested, but they were too salty across the board, so it wasnt an accident it was a choice. It was a shame as everything else was more or less on point, though the service was a little slow, to have the experience end on such a low note.
1st time and had a great experience. Food and drinks were great but service from Katherine and Grace was fantastic! Definitely will be back next time Im in town.
Really enjoyed this place! They have a menu from 20$ for a burger to very expensive for great steaks, but this is what makes it great! Everyone will find something very tasty for their budget! I recommend!
So good.
We had a group of 4, sharing the Tomahawk Steak- the portion wasnt enough for 4 hungry people sharing). The steak was top notch- tender and flavorful. Appetizers/sides were delicious as well (oysters, octopus, mac and cheese, brussel sprouts. Service and overall experience there was excellent.
The best place in Halifax for food, drinks or both. It will be your forever weekend spot, as the staff are friendly and conversating. The steaks are delicious, the salad is amazing, the oysters are prepared for perfection. Have a conversation as you drink your Guinness, or your custom made cocktail or a whisky neat. They also have one of the best wine selections in the city. Relax on a Saturday night listening to the best performers for live music. You wont regret coming to The barrington steak house.
Great food and service! You want to eat here! Vegetarian options: Has vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Can accommodate any dietary needs Kid-friendliness: Has kids menu Wheelchair accessibility: Has elevator
We had the cigar tenderloin & beef wellington. They were both perfectly cooked and delicious. The service was very good.
We ate upstairs and the atmosphere was nice and cozy. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the cook on the steak and it was lacking seasoning. The red wine jus was flavourful. The Malbec wine was delicious. Food : 2/5
Good, way overpriced for the quality
Came here for burger week - service was excellent, and the burger was delicious. Shoutout to the candied bacon that was the cherry on top.
Amazing spot for all things to do with steak plus more. I love their lamb.
Horrible experience. Went for a work dinner on a Thursday night. Took almost 2 hours to get our meal with maybe 10 people in the restaurant. Steak was tough. Why are you charging $15 for mashed potatoes on the side? This should be included with the $85 steak. Brutal. 0/10. $800 meal for 5 people. Wont be back!
We went there for drinks and they were absolutely amazing. Big shout out to Neal (hope I spelled it right), for creating magic with our drinks. I highly recommend this spot!
Warm ambiance, great food & service! The server Ben is awesome! We enjoyed our dinner.
I was excited and expecting it to be great, as this is a fine dining steakhouse. So I ordered the 20 Oz T bone steak, it came out cut up in small pieces which made the steak cold. I was not happy!! The service and all the sides were very good. A heads up would have been appreciated.
Disappointed with both steaks we ordered; one was significantly undercooked (ordered medium, received rare/medium rare edges), and the other was excessively burnt on the outside beyond the expected crust. Informed the waitress about the steak issues, and although our feedback was acknowledged after returning half of one and leaving the rare center of the second untouched, we were left with a $200+ bill for subpar food that we neither finished nor enjoyed. Despite the pleasant server, moody atmosphere, and tasty drinks, the overall experience fell short, especially considering the premium price of $60+ per steak at a supposedly high-end steakhouse. Unlikely to consider returning based on this experience
Steak Wellington was great Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Will ask about dietary restrictions
Okay, Napoleon met his end at the battle of Waterloo when he came up against a British general by the name of Wellington. My diet met its end when I came up against the beef Wellington. That was perhaps the best thing I have consumed in years. Add that to a very friendly and well informed staff- my family had an amazing experience at the Barrington Steakhouse and we will be back! I must apologize to the staff for entering into a food coma at the end of my meal, the high wing backed chair was so comfy that I nearly fell asleep. Excellent holiday experience, I highly recommend it!
If you would like an amazing culinary experience then you should definitely try the Barrington Steakhouse! From the moment we walked in, we were treated like royalty. The staff were absolutely incredible. The host, the server, the bartender were all so great and made our dinning experience unforgettable. The food though, was definitely where the term chef s kiss must have originated from. It was quite evident, that the chef takes pride in all of the dishes. The Beef Wellington well exceeded my expectations. Definitely 5 star rating!
Will share in an email.
This is the last time we will be going to the steakhouse. We had a private room for our party, we had one server for entire party. The service was unbelievably slow. It took 30 min for our drinks and over 50 min for the our appetizers. Just to be clear we ordered our appetizers before anyone else at the table ordered theirs. Our main was just as slow. They changed their cocktail menu and it was horrible. They placed a huge chunk of orange on the side of the drink glass looking cheap. They changed the steak bread to a baguette instead of the Flatbread. We got served out steaks on a huge plate and then were served our sides on a separate plate. They no longer give you vegetables with your steak. In the end our bill was way over 1000.00 Absolutely not worth it. Save your money and go somewhere else. This was supposed to he a special occasion and we were extremely dissatisfied and disappointed.
We came here to start off our New Years eve celebrations and we are already planning our next visit! Our server Gaetan was very polite and funny! He was always on top of things and made great recommendations. We sat on the second floor and loved the atmosphere we did not feel like we were too close to the people next to us. The food was absolutely amazing we got the steak bread which was full of flavour and more filling then expected! We also got oysters to start which I really liked the house sauce they had. For main I got the Dry Aged Bourbon Striploin it was cooked exactly to my liking and the bourbon added the perfect amount of taste. My partner got the buttered aged ribeye to which he said was very good. The enhancements had to be one of my favourite parts. We got the brussel sprouts, mushrooms, and bone marrow mashed potatoes. Each dish had a tremendous amount of flavour! We could not finish everything so our service packed everything up for us and even on day 2 each item had so much flavour and was just as delicious! And of course wine was amazing! For sure recommend this place!
The beef wellington and beets were fantastic. Pro tip: call ahead and reserve the Wellington if you want to guarantee availability since they only have a few of them prepped
Incredible service amazing food and great prices, very gorgeous setting and I would definitely come back ! Staff are soooooo nice and make you feel at home :)
The atmosphere and service was really lovely but the food was disappointing for the price. My steak was tiny and flavorless, creamed potatoes were like hospital food and my cocktail was sour. The calamari was overcooked, chewy and didnt have sauce or a dip. For the price I expected a bit more upscale and flavorful food even if it is a simple menu. Our waiter was wonderful but we still left disappointed
Went here in mid November 2022 but only getting to write this review now. It was our 2nd time at the probably the best steakhouse in the city. Firstly, I must mention that we came back due to the amazing service we received. The service at Barrington Steakhouse is second to none in Halifax. Everywhere else seems to always lack the professionalism, but this restaurant is doing everything right. Their waiters know exactly what each dish and beverage is, and are able to reliably answer any queries. Now onto the food and drinks. We simply had 2 entrées and 2 drinks. My partner had the sangria that she described as the perfect concoction. I had a tropical fruit mocktail. I was pleasantly surprised to find 3 non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. All I wish is that there were more because my mocktail was that good! But living in Halifax, you take what you can get since there are not a lot of non-alcoholic options at restaurants. Most don t even have a non alcoholic option on the menu. I ordered the striploin with fried, while my partner had the cigar tenderloin with whipped potatoes. Both steak were done medium. However, my striploin was not as flavourful as I expected it to me. Maybe I should have gone for the rib eye instead. Surprisingly though, my partner s cigar tenderloin was a lot juicer than mine. Must have been the way it was cooked. The whipped potatoes was exquisite. Great flavour and felt like a cloud when you ate it. Price-wise, it is on the expensive side. Expect to spend at least $70-$80 per person. That s the main reason for the 4 stars today. All in all; my partner definitely made the better choice this time out. However, I could not have given any less than 4 stars due to the level of service. Will probably come back as a treat at least once in 2023
Love the piano by the window, really great atmosphere! The Steak Bread is a really wonderful appetizer! (we went for apps and drinks!)
no complaints what so ever. The live piano was wonderful.
Went in late for a quick bite to eat, the staff were so nice to stay there while I had some food, had the Wedge salad, was perfect, staff also super friendly I will definitely be back. I would definitely recommend
Thank you again for a great experience
Delicious G&T made by our server, -and a delicious appetizer and steak Wellington both cooked to perfection. Service and ambience were great and the cheesecake was the cherry on top . We will be back!
My tenderloin was very good, the beets, carrots were too few, I would have eaten more. I ordered a side order of asparagus and they were very good. Fries also very good. What I didnt like is the Bistrot chairs, my back aches still now but this was the only negative. The seafood appetizers were incredible also.
The Barrington has tough competition from other steak houses and holds it own by having chef that is passionate about what he plates. And the service is always good!
Staff was top notch, best in the city. Wellington is kiss, cigar steak is heaven. Cocktails are incredible, young man has talent! High recommend.
Our experience at the Barrington Steakhouse was nothing short of amazing. The service from our waitress, Rissa, was 5 star and the food was phenomenal. The atmosphere on the upper dining level was great and we are looking forward to dinng there again soon.
Great food.
This was a group event. The whole staff, including Gaetan (our server) was wonderful. And the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. I will be back. Dietary restrictions: Very responsive to dietary restrictions.
The steak was so good but their appetizer and dessert was ok.
Dinner tonight at Barrington Steakhouse this evening was lovely. Gaetan our server was exceptional and extremely personable and food was delectable with gorgeous presentation. We will definitely be back. Thanks so much for a delightful evening! Dietary restrictions: Easily gluten free (celiac) with mention upon arrival.
The food is good here, and there oysters are also fresh. I was surprised to find multiple varieties, as I know some restaurants might only carry one or two variations. The bar staff is knowledgable and passionate about food, and I always have great conversations when I come here.
Terrible experience. AND - based on the response from Barrington below, I emailed the restaurant and received no response. Continued disappointment after a very expensive, disappointing meal. No follow-through after extensive planning for my large group. Dont bring your group here.
Quite good place steak house good choices of wine and drinks also a good service to offer definitely recommended.
Waitress was awesome
Id give 10 stars of I could. Best steak Ive ever had. Generous portions, extensive wine selection, excellent service.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and had a great upscale vibe that sets the tone for a great dining experience. The Oysters were fresh and served with a variety of sauces that perfectly complemented the Oysters. Also the dessert is a YES! I found the service was lacking a bit, we were waiting for some time to get a server stopping by to set up the table with utensils and to take the order.... Overall, the quality of the food and the beautiful atmosphere makes this restaurant a must try
Food was ok, service was interesting. However I highly suspect that both of these would have been significantly better had the staff, GM, and chef not been preoccupied with attempting to assist a belligerently drunk woman out of the restaurant for well over an hour. The whole dinner was she was yelling, stumbling around and walking up to random people at different tables to start a fight as well as verbally attacking anyone who glanced in her general direction. Sadly she was there with another adult man who at one point was accusing the serving staff of providing bad service while the woman attempted to crawl out of her booth having her 2 children desperately try to keep her in the booth while sobbing and begging the man to help them control their mom. She also grabbed and hit one of her children at one point causing the probably 8-10 year old to start screaming let me go and crying uncontrollably. Unfortunately, the staff s response was way too little, way too late. The GM apologized to us towards the end of our 2hr dinner, which was appreciated. However, throughout the dinner the server offered jokes and attempts to lighten the situation and we were continually given non-stop refills on our wine during the entire debacle (without being told the pour size or pricing, and then casually handed a bill for whole bottle afterwards. I ve been to many high end restaurants in different cities and have never seen this happen. Unless I ve explicitly ordered a bottle of wine, i m offered another specific sized glass of wine once the previous glass had been finished) Which well, therein probably lies the problem. (This seemed to be the case for other tables experiencing this drunken situation around us as well) As this whole thing unfolded there was another couple behind us that also had an overly intoxicated woman. Who struck and smashed a glass on the floor and proceeded to yell at and throw racially motivated comments towards another nearby couple who got sprayed with her broken glass while they tried to look at it with a phone flashlight. I should mention that the couple that were sprayed in broke glass, left without any staff realizing, as 30 minutes later their food arrive from the kitchen and the server had no idea why it was going to an empty table. 2 steaks, an appetizer, an unplanned bottle of wine and $300 bill later we re left with a pretty awful taste in our mouths. We went to 3 other establishments after leaving to try and find a fun place for dessert, and although it was late on a Saturday and downtown was filled with people drinking, the barrington steakhouse was the only place I felt unsafe. I doubt we will ever return or that I ll ever forget those little girls heartbreaking cries.
Ate here yesterday. Ordered mussels, a tenderloin steak with the barrington fries.2 hours after that i felt really sick. Went to the emergency and the doctor said its a food poisoning. Mind you i was starving because i didn t eat all day long. Vomit everything left with stomach cramp. I dont know what wasnt fresh maybe the mussels or the steak
Had a delicious and fresh moment. Staff was very kind and professional. Always enjoy going back to Halifax and its good places.
Really loved the environment here! Great spot for an anniversary! Food was phenomenal the Rib Eye is a must try.
Over rated. rib eye did not taste good at all, Charred flavour. 60$ for that? Lol
Service was great. Food was flavorful and cooked to perfection.
If you know of a better place in the area to get a top notch 20 to 35 ounce steak, point me in that direction. Barrington Steakhouse is always my first choice for steak.
Delicious steak! The atmosphere is great for a nice date or celebration. Very quiet and elegant. We got the ribeye and tenderloin steak with the double stuffed potatoes as a side.
Average service.
Terrible. Took 45 mins to get a salad after ordering our meal. When we finished our salads they then informed us that their kitchen was not working and they could not prepare our steaks. Did not even offer to comp the salads or oysters. Just the worst. Cut Steakhouse around the corner has a significantly better steak selection.
Overall pretty good, they seemed to mess up with my order and the food was served pretty late, however they were straightforward about it once they found the issue and offer compensated appetizer, I like the way they handled it. The food is pretty good, the best we had in Nova Scotia, environment is pretty cool too.
**EDIT: after speaking with the general manager, she suggested that the issue here was my palate and not all the issues I mentioned. Such a disappointing response from what I had hoped to be a great restaurant. We will not be back.** I would love to give them a higher rating because the service was absolutely amazing however the food just did not meet our standards. I think it s fair to say this restaurant is an OG in Halifax so we were very excited to finally have a chance to try. The atmosphere was lovely, we sat upstairs next to a Barrington St facing window. Our waitress was phenomenal. She kept up on drinks, making sure we always had what we needed, had great banter and recommendations. We ordered the bruschetta as one of our appetizers and it just missed the mark for us. We felt the cherry tomato topping was far too plain and the black garlic confit was texturally unpleasant and quite bitter. The focaccia bread we ordered on the side was to DIE for. The best bread service I ve ever had in Halifax. For our mains we ordered the Wellington, a strip, and two tenderloins. There was an accident with a manager dropping two of our dishes which had to be re-fired which was no issue at all however because it was a birthday dinner and we wanted to eat together. The other two dishes were placed under a heat lamp and the quality was absolutely compromised. Things were tough, lukewarm and not up to par. Unfortunately the majority of our steaks, 3/4, were not cooked to our request. The fresh dishes were also just ok but again, the tenderloin was extremely dry, potatoes were lukewarm and the seasonal vegetables were bitter. I wanted to love this place and make it one of our regular spots but for the price, we just can t justify it.
Wonderful Canada Day celebrations with beloved family. Food and surrounging were excellent. Menu was quite extensive, superb quality
Great food but slow to get it
It took me a while to get around to this, but the experience was so memorable that I couldnt let it pass. We visited Halifax about a month ago - May 2023. In spite of our terrible dining experience, Ive heard others defend the place. Even one of our 3-person dinner party that evening, a local resident, was surprised and said its usually quite good. I guess we got them on the wrong night then, the weeknight B-Crew. The service & food were equally abysmal. The hostess was unfriendly, the waiter was a wise guy who thought he was funny (I wish he had been), and possibly 1-2 of the dishes we had between the 3 of us rose to the level of average (not the steaks). Thats just not acceptable at their price point. We were 3 and spent about $500-600, I dont quite recall exactly. Only the wine was good. Now I could drone on about the details far more than youd care to read, but a picture is worth 1000 words. I will take a moment, though, to advise you against ordering the wedge salad. Unless you think a wedge salad is bibb lettuce, a boiled egg, and some kind of dressing I couldnt identify. If you do, then definitely order the wedge salad. The wise guy waiter was certain it was correct. It was at that moment I realized things were not going to get better and I should enjoy the wine. How this steakhouse classic could go so off the rails at a posh place like Barringtons, I can only guess. In hindsight, I should have taken a picture. But wait, I did promise you a picture. Check out whatever it was that arrived when we ordered another steakhouse classic, Creme Brulee. The over blackened top was hiding a blue surprise. I have no idea what it was, but it was disgusting. I think what bothered me the most was that they didnt think there was anything wrong. They were completely unaware of their incompetence. The last time I had an experience even close to this bad was in the height of covid, when you were lucky to even find a place open.
Awesome place Best steak in Halifax Perfect for special occasions or just a really nice dinner. Great kids menu Food : 5/5 |
A one of a kind experience. Service is spectacular and the food is divine.
A beautiful experience with my Fiance, the atmosphere service and food was amazing. The oysters were so fresh and my Bourbon aged steak was the best steak I ever had, the staff was very accommodating even though we bled into the late evening celebrating our engagement. Would highly recommend for any milestone event hands down. I wish I remembered our servers name but she was very nice and gave us such a wonderful night for that we thank you
Fantastic food and excellent service.
Food was just ok..didnt really live up to expectations..staff were awesome however. This was a $62. Steak
Stepping into the culinary landscape of Halifax, one establishment has captivated my taste buds like no other: Barrington Steakhouse. In my view, its the citys crowning glory when it comes to steak. The ambiance, service, and most importantly, the food, are all prime cut, setting a high standard that is tough to surpass. The heart of their menu, the steak selection, is beyond reproach. For the uninitiated, Id heartily recommend their porterhouse steak, a dish that embodies the essence of this fine dining establishment. Expertly aged and cooked to your liking, each bite is a juicy symphony of flavours that is both rustic and refined. The taste is robust and deep, but its the texture that truly impresses - each bite melts away, leaving you longing for the next. Complementing their steaks, Barrington offers a delightful chimichurri sauce. This vibrant condiment, full of garlic, herbs, and tangy vinegar, provides a refreshing contrast to the hearty porterhouse, enhancing its natural richness without overpowering it. But dont rush to the main course. Start your meal with their Caesar salad, an underrated star of the menu. The romaine is fresh and crisp, the dressing creamy yet balanced, and the parmesan and croutons add just the right amount of crunch and savouriness. Its the perfect primer for the steak to follow. Service at Barrington Steakhouse is as top-tier as their food. Staff members are knowledgeable, courteous, and genuinely eager to enhance your dining experience. In a city brimming with culinary delights, Barrington Steakhouse stands out as an absolute must-visit for steak lovers. So, treat yourself to their porterhouse steak with a side of chimichurri and a Caesar salad. Trust me, your palate will thank you!
Not worth it anymore. Disappointing. Food
Dietary restrictions: Amazing service and gluten-free the menu Food
Update: I emailed you 2 days ago and there was no responce. Im going to assume that you dont care how poorly your customers experiences are since you have not reached out to me to discuss the situation. We definitely will NOT be returning. We were sat @ 5:45 Honestly this was one of our worst restaurant experiences. The waitress introduced her self to us by moving our seats because one else had reserved them. We had reservations as well. She didnt even give us her name. Took well over 30 minutes for our drink orders to arrive. Mind you there was almost no tables seated. Took almost an hour for our food to be brought to us. Which we were only checked on once while we were eating. Decided to stay for dessert and we were told they were sold out of the mousse and opera cake. So we ordered lemon tart and creme Brulee. Only for her to come back to the table 20 minutes later and tell us another table got the last lemon tart but they actually had mouse. Then it took another 20 minutes to get us a bill. We left at 7:45, 2 hours for a main course each and a singular dessert.
Very tasty steak and oysters!!!
One of the most disappointing experiences from beginning to end. We were greeted by a hostess, we did not have a reservation but mentioned we just wanted a glass of wine and a few appetizers. She told she could possibly fit us in, brought us upstairs and I mentioned hopefully we won t be out in the kitchen, we laughed. It was the absolute worse table in the restaurant. We had a screen made of metal that shielded us but we could see and hear everything. We thought ok, bad table but here we are at the Barrington Steakhouse. Our server was tall, slim, aggressive and absolutely not appropriate for the restaurant. Bad server from the start, did not bring our appetizers in order which made us not order a red. We actually heard him curse throughout the 2 hours we were there from that metal shield. The pork belly tasted like ham, the tartar was delicious but the chips were stale, the scallops were delicious and I really enjoyed the oysters, very unique. We were visiting the restaurant on a Thursday early evening hoping to experience something amazing and book a party for December. If only I would have said we re here for a big steak dinner and expensive wine, I wonder if the service would have been different .
Must have for meat eater
One of the fanciest restaurants in town. Good wine selection, good steaks, nice decor and attentive service.
Great Oysters, Fair to Good steak, rest was average!
Everything was absolutely amazing! The food, the server, atmosphere
Go for lunch, quiet, great food, best service in town, kudos to Yvan.
A wonderful, cozy place to have dinner. Prices are moderate, clean, tasty, large selection of alcohol and food. The service was excellent, they advised and told. Everything is great. Thank you
Surprisingly family friendly for an high end restaurant! Kid-friendliness: Kids plastic cups, kids menu, allowed strollers (no stairs to manage at bottom floor) Food : 5/5 |
Wow. What an incredible spot to have dinner. Food, staff and atmosphere are all amazing. Oyster selection is outstanding and wine and drink menus offer a very wide selection. Our waitress from Ukraine was exceptional and oh so friendly. Will definitely recommend this place for a relaxing and or romantic evening.
The ambiance was lovely the food was okay my steakhouse is better thought I would try somewhere different going back to what I know is good
I had reservations for two at 8pm, when we arrived we stood there for 5mins. No one was there to greet us or seat us. When we were seated by the host we didnt get any menus. After about another 10mins our waitress came over with water, but we had to ask for menus. So right from the beginning of our night wasnt going very well. The restaurant didnt look or seem busy, and the waitress didnt say anything about short staff or it being busy. Appetizers came and was great. But after our waitress took our main order it was literally a hour before our food came to the table. Our dinner was great but mushrooms were cold. Basically I feel the ball was dropped on the service. Our waitress asked us how everything was and we were honest, the food was great but overall the service was missed. She was super kinda and took a few drinks off our bill, which wasnt necessary but I also wasnt going to say no. Service definitely makes a difference.
Service was great, but the food was ridiculously expensive. One shrimp was $10! That s absolutely crazy! The sides were small and the shrimp cocktail was only 3 shrimp. We paid $46 for 5 shrimp tonight! We had one bottle of wine. One of four had steak, the rest had sides. And the bill came to close to $400!!
Some of the best food Ive ever had. The staff are very well educated on their food. The music is lovely, and the Victorian aesthetic is very much appreciated
Very good place for special occasions. Rather expensive but well worth it.
Was here again after 5 years, unfortunately something went wrong. But it was repaired very professionally and extremely friendly Something can always happen, so always happy, great staff
Greatbsteak. Piano entertainment is great. Bar staff is awesome
Best steakhouse around!!! Great atmosphere... great bar!!!! Fabulous beef!!!
Worst experience Ive had in the last decade in Halifax. Food took two hours to hit the table and we were like thats okay. Poor customer service skills and yet we were like sure. But what got me to lose my mind is when I was paying for my food I put about 15% tip (even though I didnt want to). However, the waiter snatched the machine off of my hand, pressed back on the terminal and chose the 18% option for me instead!! I asked are you even allowed to do that? His answer was thats our policy, I told him I dont think what youve just done is legal! He started arguing about their policy, I asked again if this is legal? How do you modify the tip amount for me after I decided how much I wanted to pay you for the poor service? He started giving me vague answers and argued back saying that you have to pay this percentage according to their policy!!! I clearly asked him if he knew that what he just did is so unprofessional, unethical and illegal relying on embarrassing people while paying with his low tactics. I do not recommend this place to anyone out there. What theyve done is illegal in so many ways and considered theft. This place is a DISAPPOINTMENT and run by extremely unprofessional staff who dont respect their customers.
Way too expensive, service wasnt great
My wife and I ate there for our wedding anniversary last night. I ordered the beef wellington and when I tell you this thing showed up on a platter and uppercut me into the stratosphere, I am not lying. It can easily feed a family of 4. It comes in 4 pieces that are roughly the thickness of a snow tire. Its like someone wrapped a Tour de France cyclists thigh in puff pastry and set it in front of you. I ate 3 of 4 pieces and literally slept for 12 hours. This steak was so good it made me late for work the next day. My wife is Italian and when I eat too much pasta, I fall victim to the pasta sleeps. This was, without a doubt, the hardest I have ever fallen down in my life after a meal. It has toppled the pasta sleeps and has been renamed as the Wellington Knockout. If you have important stuff to do the next day, reschedule it, because this beef wellington will rob you of the next 12 hours of your life. It came with vegatables and I didnt even notice. It was easily the best value for any item I purchased in 2024. If you order it, it should come with an apology note that you can give to your boss because youre gonna need to take a personal day. 10/10 isnt a high enough rating for this Louisville slugger wrapped in pastry. Good luck to you if you order it. I am with you in spirit.
For the price I expected an elevated culinary experience, but that was not entirely my experience. Service was amazing, atmosphere was ok, loved the decor. Food quality should have been a wow, but instead it was just meah considering the price. The oysters on the other hand were superb!
Visited on 12/9. Took my server s recommendation for medium on my 18oz ribeye. Steak was burnt on the ends, well done on the sides, and medium only in the centre of the steak. It was a little off-putting because there were parts that were gray from the sous-vide but not seared from the grill as well. We ve had better steak from the keg. Our server was pleasant but was also bummed out when we didn t tip 25 or 30%..
The d was quite good. However, EXTREMELY slow service. We were there for almost 2.5hrs before the main course arrived. We didnt even bother considering dessert options as a result. Food
My partner and I went on a date to Barrington Street Steakhouse for dinner tonight and I am absolutely floored by the wonderful service, food and atmosphere we experienced while dining. Our server, (Izzy) was so personable and knew the menu items so well and was able to make the most wonderful suggestions. We had Oysters, Ceviche, Steak and Salmon and each dish had our mouths watering. We will be suggesting Barrington Steakhouse to all of our friends!! You certainly won t be disappointed with this place. Ask for Izzy when you make a reservation!! She s absolutely fantastic!
Came here for a work party! Great service but only knocked a star off because it took almost 2 hours before we got our appetizer. Our serve Ben was great and was very pleasant. Medium rare steak was delicious. Good portions had to get a take out container.
Great appetizers and food except a burger that was ordered did not come as ordered. Otherwise all was top notch including the service.
Amazing service, quiet tables, delicious food. This restaurant has a unique history in Halifax, ask about the irons!
We were a party of 7 celebrating my nephews graduation. Most of us ordered appetizers which were very delicious. We then waited about an hour and a half for our main courses. We all ordered steak and lobster tail with the exception of 1 person. All of our meals were cold. I asked to have mine reheated. Once the server found out everyones food was cold (and the lobster was undercooked) our server immediately got the General Manager to come see us. Many people would be upset but I have to say the Manager looked after us and rectified the situation to our satisfaction. Mistakes can happen. How they finished was what was important. Our server was also very good. Im sure this is not the norm as my brother has had many wonderful experiences here. When Im back in town I would be more that willing to try this place again.
Amazing staff, food and ambiance!!
Poor service & disorganized. Will not come back
Food was good and server was awesome. A bit slow coming out of the kitchen but we were in no hurry.
Amazing restaurant with fantastic food and oysters . Huge wine selection and very fresh oysters and suculent dry aged steaks . If you are looking for a high class dinner with high quality food and drink I would highly recommend coming here.
The ambiance was perfect, the staff was super knowledgeable on everything. The oysters were sublime! Dont miss out on this truly amazing culinary experience.
After a lot of seafood, we were looking forward to steaks and they were excellent and cooked to your liking. The side dishes were also good, although vegetables could have been a bit more. Its pretty cold in the restaurant, the air conditioning was turned down a little at our request, unfortunately only for a short time. So its better to bring a jacket if you come from Europe. We would come back.
Sat upstairs, Inside was gorgeous, dark wood, highback comfy chairs, perfect spot for a romantic dinner, or awesome food for dinner with friends. We were a party of 4. Tenderloin steak was totally delicious. They even start you out with a tray of fresh warm bread.
Exceeded my expectations, nailed & checked each. I liked my host Cameron, waiter Niel (1st night) & Sierra (2nd night) ambience and food. I went two nights in a row and did not failed my expectations.
We had Caesar salad and the Chateaubriand. Absolutely amazing food, I am a Caesar salad fanatic and this was one of my top 3. Our server was great and we had an overall great experience!
Expensive but good
Great place for steak! Waitress extremely friendly!
Nothing but positive to say about this place. Our server provided great service, laughs and smiles which only made the food and drinks even more enjoyable. One of the best steaks Ive had in a long time
Delicious oysters, amazing steak.
Wonderful dinner with my wife for our anniversary.
Great
First visit was last night. Absolutely fabulous meal and top notch service. Great oysters to start, some lovely cocktails and wine, and a spectacular steak. Great time!
Meal was fantastic, entertainment was phenomenal!
Decent service and delicious food. Not quite worth the price, but still worth trying once
My partner and I were so excited to try Barrington after reading excellent reviews and recommendations online. We made a reservation for a Saturday night since we are from out of town. The atmosphere is great, and we adored the piano player. This did not however, make up for the poor quality of overpriced food. Both our steaks were ordered medium rare - they were both cooked to completely different levels. One nearing medium well. The biggest shocker was the shrimp and scallop which we added on to our meals. Do NOT order these additions. The shrimp was a standard size shrimp you can buy from Costco and was unseasoned. The scallop was about the size of a toonie and burnt. Both the singular shrimp and singular scallop were $9 EACH. For the amount of money this dinner cost youd be better off going around the corner to The Press Gang where we enjoyed a much higher quality meal for a lower price point.
Barrington is a exceptional establishment, you get exactly what you pay for. We were a party of 8 and the staff was great with our guests. The wait between each course was a bit long but definitely worth the wait. We would definitely come back from some more surf and turf.
A bit on the more expensive and fancier side. Food was of amazing quality. Steaks grilled perfectly, and seafood was exceedingly fresh. The drinks we ordered were so-so.
Classy restaurant, great service, amazing food! Amazing steak and superb burger! 5 day visit from New Brunswick.... this is the best food so far. Bravo!
Excellent service and good food. Tge quality of food was awesome. I ordered the cigar tenderloin, medium rare and it was awesome. One of the best steak i had ever eaten. The oysters either raw or bake were also good. I liked the raw better. The desert, raspberry cheesecake was also delicious. Really recommend have dinner here.
There is a handful of steakhouses in the city and this is my number one. The steak is choice cuts, top shelf and the meat is cooked to perfection. The wait staff is attentive, motivated and have value add to the whole experience. I definitely recommend this place for date night or just to slam some oysters solo. If you want steak this is the place. Atmosphere is on point. 10/10.
Came her with my wife and son as we were dropping him off for university. The service was great and the starters and mains were delicious. Unfortunately they really dropped the ball on the desserts which ended not hurting my waistline .
Nice place, good service. Food was just okay. For the cost of it it should be exceptional. Good drink menu.
A restaurant for steak, oysters and seafood
Good atmosphere, the oysters are excellent and fresh. The staff is efficient, courteous and pleasant. We had personalized recommendations.
The premises were very clean and well-presented. Service and atmosphere were both excellent. Liquor menu is large and fairly-priced with an expansive wine selection. Ordered a striploin medium and received it medium-rare, however, and the portions were on the small side for the pricepoint, but I was otherwise very impressed. Very high 4/5, Id give 4.5 if it was possible and wouldve given a full 5 stars if the steak had been correct (it was still delicious nonetheless). Highly recommend, and Id most certainly dine here again.
LOVE this place! Such a nice atmosphere. I got the steak tartare, Rockefeller oysters and the peaches and kale salad. Steak tartare: 4/5 it was great, just a tad chewy Oysters Rockefeller: 5/5 you need to try these. Soooo freaking good Peaches and kale salad: 5/5 such a unique and refreshing take on a salad, delish. Drinks were quality, espresso martinis were 10/10. I will be back
I was very disappointed. Our meal. With Tip was $181, two of us had salad, one had pasta, not even enough to fill her up and the last one had Cornish hen. We waited forever for our food and the waiter did don t even bring the bread until after our meals had been served. I felt the prices were way to high for what we had and the service was very poor. Parking: We had to park about 2 blocks away
October 2022: I went to this place with a group of my work colleagues. Omg! This place is vibrant. I loved the atmosphere, service, and food. I would highly recommend the bag of donuts in dessert. You will get five small freshly cooked donuts with hot chocolate dipping sauce. I was full after having 2.5 donuts :) and kept the remaining for later.
Food and service were excellent! We will be back.
Horrible steak, Chateau Briand for 2 was so tough. It was cooked medium rare but not good quality meat..Our waiter was so loud just kept talking non stop..Omg horrible evening!!!! Im not sure why this place has 4.5 stars ?? 475.00 for 3 ppl..Food was just awful..We do like Martins..or Press Gang restaurants both have quality steaks..
I must say, this establiahment is fine dinning at its best. We have learned that this estanlishment was on countless top 10 best lists before we ever set foot in Halifax, and all those lists were true. We were greeted by friendly staff and were seated right away as well. We chose both tenderloin and sirloin steaks and they were cooked to our liking 100%. Fresh, delicious raw oyster were welcome addition as well. All in all, we will undoubtly return to this establishment if we return to Halifax.
Beef, vegetables and double baked potato very fresh and cooked with exceptional care. Excellent recommendations from staff on meals, bourbon and wines. Restaurant books quickly but 2 of us caught empty seats right at bar luckily.
Very nice place. The food, drinks and service were outstanding. Definitely worth every penny.
Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly. Food
The only way I can describe this food is as if I had been wandering the desert for a month and finally found some ice cold water. The steak was so good it melted in my mouth. The side of double baked potato was way better than it needed to be, and Niel s ability to make bartending look like art was immediate. It was so good I don t think I can ever eat again.
Huge fan of the mains. I had a ribeye steak with shrimp. 10/10
Nice place for oyster .
This was by far the best seafood tower Ive ever had in my life! The seating was beautiful and our lovely server (Gaetan) was so prompt and kind. Would highly recommend!
Came for our Anniversary on Halloween was told we were about to have an experience. The only experience we felt was disappointment. 1.5 hours to get our food, which wasnt a great experience. To top things off we were charged for our sides which were supposed to be a part of the Steak for 2. Sorry Barrington, the only experience I felt was being ripped off.
Service was ok, oysters were good, but getting a 40 dollar steak that shows up cold because it clearly sat out after cooking was atrocious. Would not recommend.
What a fantastic spot. Great food great service. Ask for Kennedy as your server, she was fabulous! Wear layers though as it can get a little chilly by the windows (a coolest older building will do that).
Awesome place to get a great steak in a relaxed environment
This is the place Best atmosphere, Best Service, and the best food anywhere in the area! Love it!!!
