Little Fish offers an exceptional food and wine experience in the heart of downtown Halifax. A cozy and pleasant atmosphere to enjoy with friends, family, and colleagues alike whether coming in for dinner or enjoying a night out on the town. Menus curated from our own Michelin trained Chef – Gabriel Uggenti and Sommelier – Mehvish Hussain. Little fish offers shareable plates, carefully curated cocktails and a small approachable wine list that has our guests asking for more.
Order yourself a Grappa Sour to get things started. Then I recommend the baked lobster ziti!
Very disappointing. We had 8 in our group. We started with oysters, very small and dry, moved on to lobster bisque. It tastes like tomato soup, no lobster chunks. Main course was a half lobster. It might as well have been an overcooked crawfish. Overall the experience was poor overpriced food. The server was good. Too many other options in Halifax to come here.
First time try the Surf & Turf and it didn't make me disappointed. Great place to go for dinner.
Solid lunch spot. The service and ambiance is slightly below average but the oysters are fresh and lobster delicious and that’s all you can ask for! Ps: fries were surprisingly delicious.
Five Fishermen was full, so decided to eat downstairs. Service was great. As were the mojitos! Loved the mussels I had for dinner. They were cooked nicely (not over cooked) and the sauce was spectacular. My husband had the surf & turf. The beef was cooked as desired and was so tender. Everything was really good. Hopefully next time we will get to try upstairs.
We were suggested to go in here vs the five fishermen that was upstairs (full). We decided with the options to go ahead and eat at the little fish. My husband's meal, the seabass, was amazing and he was very happy. My surf and turf did not come rare, but medium instead, and the lobster tail meat was significantly smaller than the tail it came in, plus no butter to dip in. I also never got the glass of water for my meal that I requested. However the ambiance and decor was lovely and everyone was very friendly. A little expensive for the portions I got as well.
Super cozy place, intimate ambiance and amazing food! The menu is a “tapas inspired” menu but great for sharing and enjoying with some drinks. All food was amazing, the fish tacos, fish cakes and shrimp were fantastic and we tried the fish and chips as a main, which was to die for. They had live music with an amazing singer/guitar player that made the evening that much more enjoyable!
Great atmosphere and very friendly service. However I found that the food could have been a bit better. Oysters were excellent and delicious but other appies lacked the seafood ratio i was hoping. (The lobster guacamole had maybe 3 little chunks of lobster in it).
Nice atmosphere
Service is quite frankly lacking (horribly understaffed). Makes for a very disappointing dining experience. The oysters are pretty decent. I dont think Ill be coming back.
Excellent food
It was a nice chill atmosphere but although the service was friendly they did miss a few items from our order. We ordered 24 oysters at an oyster bar and they seemed annoyed about it. They also don t display their oysters on the menu and when we asked we got a vague description of the 2 different oysters they have. The food wasn t the best but decent for the price.
Nice variety of seafood! Their panko fried haddock was delicious! Highly recommend!
Great Oysters. Happy hour 4 to 6pm.
Scallops in a butter cashew sauce were delicious!
Have never been to Little Fish or even the legendary Five Fisherman after living in Halifax all my life. Finally planned it up to go and I was sadly disappointed. The venue has great ambiance and style. The all you can eat mussle bar was good after they refreshed the bar with a new batch (tomato sauce was delicious). Service was mediocre. Menu Not overly accommodating for dietary requirements. Meal was good (pan-fried haddock with scallops and shrimp in a cream sauce with a side salad and baked potato) but definitely overpriced for what it was, especially in comparison to what our city now offers for cuisine. Hoping this was just a bad night and not the usual.
Great food and service. Loved the mussel bar.
Fantastic mussels, great food, friendly server.
Like the oysters. Good service.
I just wanted a good dinner. The food was cold and the waiters rude and disrespectful (in my opinion). I DO NOT recommend this place
Cozy place, BAD SERVICE!!!!
I got their surf and turf burger for burger week, the meat was extremely dry and so was the burger, there was exactly 2 baby shrimps on my burger, the only thing I liked was the service, I also had some oysters but the shell was not properly cleaned which made my experience very disappointing
Great burgers!
Great atmosphere and friendly staff
Went there during the burger week. Their burger was 10 out of 10! The menu was pricey though
Excellent place!
I was recommended this place by several locals so I am hoping this experience was a fluke. I had the lobster dinner and the lobster seemed very small, was missing one claw, and actually had no meat in the tail. The butter was starting thicken. It honestly seemed like someone else had had this plate, eaten the tail and a claw and then is mistakenly got served to me. They did provide another tail, but it was small and bbqed. The sides were cold. I will say the drinks and oysters were amazing and the bartender was amazing too! But the lobster is supposed to be the star and it was beyond disappointing. It was late and maybe that influenced the experience.
Food was amazing
Delicious seafood bucket and haddock
Went here for happy hour on a Tuesday. We had multiple different servers who clearly didn t talk to each other. I ordered the same beer three times and was presented with a different beer each time. Ordered several dozen of the happy hour oysters and was told it would take awhile despite only a couple other tables being occupied and none that ordered oysters. Took ridiculously long for service and then was presented with a bill for non-happy hour oysters at 33% more cost. They fixed the bill but it seems obvious one should know that happy hour applies to happy hour. Also, the normal menu items are WAY overpriced. $12-14 per 6 oz glass of local sub-par wine is gouging. $30 for a lobster roll is robbery. For those prices, clean up the service. I would never recommend anyone to eat here. Sure hope the upstairs doesn t suffer the same current issues as it s one of our favourite places.
First time at the little fish. Every bit as good as the five fishermem
Haddock on rice with summer vegetables. Delicious with Alexander Keith.
Good portion fish was perfect, scallops over cooked rice dry..good service
the worest restaurant we wait for an hour and the lobster roll taste unfresh the most important point is this meal makes me diarrhea
Oysters were great! Service was awesome! Only 40 Oysters this time!
Tried here for lunch on a gorgeous Tuesday in July. They have a few nice patio tables set up out front, but we took a booth inside where it was cool. Two tables already were taken inside at noon, and maybe only another filled up within the hour. Nice, cozy, yet somewhat bright atmosphere with brickwork original walls, seating for maybe 60 with tables and large booths. Prompt friendly service. They had the Seafood Fest Menu available (which I am not too familiar with, and was tempted to get their seafood spaghettini, but decided to just get something off the regular menu instead.) The Summer Salad ($12 Arugula salad with watermelon, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, basil goats cheese and a watermelon vinaigrette) was very flavorful, pretty in presentation, and just a good small size as a starter. The Shrimp Tacos ($11 Two flour tortilla tacos topped with marinated coldwater shrimp, mango coulis, melon salsa, arugula and a chili sauce.) were good, served cold, a bit messy. My friend tried the Fish & chips ($16 Two pieces of fresh haddock battered and deep fried. Served with frozen fries and coleslaw). It wasnt anything unique or amazing, but definitely satisfying and tasty. I definitely do want to come back here and try more of the menu.
Was debating between here and another place for a delicious seafood dinner. We had 18 oysters which were shucked to perfection and had no grit left behind. I had the seafood bucket which as described by our server was a hefty serving and the haddock ordered by my partner was really good also!
Best seafood chowder Ive ever had. Fish and chips were pretty good as well.
Will MacDonald was bartartending and was the best part of our evening, engaging in conversation and really making the atmosphere enjoyable, this is a beautiful place to dine and Will reccomend it to all our friends :)
Fish good / rice dry/ veg over cooked/ scallop and shrimp cold and tasteless ... shrimp taco uneatable .. over priced .. not worth it
Great bartender, Will, who chatted with us throughout the evening. Also the best scallops on the planet, as part of East shore bucket.
Excellent Seafood
The lamb was delicious.
Restaurant goers heed caution. This restaurant left everything to be desired. The food was mediocre and the service was atrocious. My table ordered the following: -Surf & turf (steak was decently cooked;however, this should be renamed to Surf only. The lobster was undetectable visually and in taste in their bearnaise sauce -Veggie spaghettini (bland) -Scallops (well seasoned but over cooked so they had a rubbery texture) -Steamed mussels (decently seasoned and cooked -Halibut (well seasoned and cooked) Aside from the food, the service (or lack there of) left the worst taste in my mouth. To say our waitress was inattentive would be an understatement because she was absent most of the night. Guests who arrived after us received their childrens food before our drinks arrived. Normally, this would not be a big deal; however, when you have a clear view of your drinks (mostly waters and a few cocktails) and know they have been sitting there for 30 minutes, it becomes a big deal because the cocktails are now watered down. The waitress also did not offer an apology because I am sure she was hoping we did not notice. There were many other instances of horrendous service but I do not want this review to become a novel. In conclusion, this restaurant is not worth going to. If you have 5 - 10 additional minutes please walk down to Saltys. I am not confident you will like the food better; however, I am confident they will treat you infinitely better. In fact, most restaurants will.
Great fish and chips.
Best Oysters un Halifax.
Delicious mussels and excellent service.
Average dining experience. Better places around.
gg
Excellent seafood and great ambience
Delicious seafood
Had the best meal ever! I had haddock, that also came with shrimp and scallops; and my husband had the surf and turf. The flavor, presentation and ingredients were amazing. Even got to meet the cook! Highly recommend this restaurant!!!
Great oysters! AND shucker
Was looking for something different and found it in this location. Thank you for the great food and hospitality. This place is a welcome change from the typical niche attempt. The staff and surroundings were real and very comfortable. Id compare it somewhat to spending a fun evening with family.
Great service.
Fabulous lunch
Likely the BEST food Ive had. Sincerely. The marinated vegetables, lobster cream sauces and haddock were put together... Magically! Little Fish for the Win! I would go back and pay double for my meal. Too good!
Excellent food, service and the decor is beautiful!
Loved the service as well as the food here. The waitress was really knowledgeable about the oysters she served and was very friendly. I had the pics in my old phone but lost it lol. The oysters were super fresh and I was able to feel the sea in my mouth haha. Will visit again for sure whenever I visit the city again.
Really nice place possibly the best mussels ever, have the tomato sauce.
Good menu. Prices on the high side for food. Very reasonable on wine. Good service. Recommended.
Great food, great service.
tried out the tacos and lobster mac and cheese. the tacos were fine, but the mac and cheese was fantastic.
Wow! Outstanding service (Neil) and fantastic oysters. Great drink selection too!
The food is mediocre, but they have a nice outdoor patio and happy hour for oysters ($2 each).
A bit expensive, but the service is good and the food is very yummy!
Fine seafood and great service. Our waitress was speaking French, a plus we appreciated.
Very good and very friendly staff
Go for the happy hour oysters! All the food is good, lobster Mac and cheese recommended
If you are looking to pay an arm and a leg for long wait times, stale french bread, and dry flavorless lobster then by all means please waste your time and money eating here. I ended up ordering a salad (one of the sad two options of sides) with my ultimate lobster roll and thankfully so, for I had to use the salad bowl to eat the lobster out of due to the bread being stale and gross. Ultimate lobster roll my tail! Save yourself the frustration and eat at McKelvies Delishes Fishes Dishes instead...
Fantastic service, mussels were great
Great fish and chips and oysters. Service was excellent. Id recommend the place to anyone who wants to enjoy good seafood dishes.
Very good restaurant, classic menu with attentive staff.
Fantastic restaurant, friendly service, great seafood.
Great place awesome food Brent s the man
I am oyesters expert but here I had the best oyster in my Life lol make sure you order the PEI oysters (the small) the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and service 10+
The staff were warm and welcoming. Servers were very attentive and service was quick. Great food. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic food. Would recommend highly!
Mussels in garlic sauce delish..haddock tacos super yummy and the flourless choc cake topped it off for a great meal
Not bad, but nothing over the top. Really nothing special though.
Great atmosphere, really good food, fair value, the table had lobster guacamole, lobster mac and cheese, seafood linguini x2, and I had a burger, everyone loved their meals, only negative dessert menu was small.
Not as good as the Five Fishermen. I had the fish and chips. The fries were okay, but the fish had so much batter on it that I could not taste the fish at all. We had oysters to start with and these were delicious and fresh.
The service was sweet, but was bit underwhelmed by the food (had the lobster sliders and lobster bisque). However, the oysters were on-point and expertly shucked. Got there on the early side and sat outside and it was a nice experience, but the vibe was flat. Also, the servers had to explain to (literally) everyone who approached that the Five Fisherman is upstairs. Little Fish is downstairs. But its the same kitchen with a different menu. Might want to work on that branding.
Excellent shareable menu with a fcous on local seafood.
Good food but lousy customer service. I had to ask to get free refill on my drink.
