94 Cannon St W, Hamilton, ON L8R 2B6, Canada
Casual Chinese restaurant offering dim sum in a chandelier-lit dining room with a warm feel.
Best fried rice I’ve had in my 34 years of life. They have other good food too but I just wanted to highlight that first. Usually order salt fish chicken fried rice or Yeung chow. Other highlights is their dim sum is FRESH. I never had siu mai steaming so hot and freshly made. The deep fried squid is delicious. And the bean curd wrapped shrimp. I also go here for dinner and their dinner menu is amazing. Their claypot casseroles are SOO GOOD. Before leaving a review I noticed a lot of people complaining about service and tipping. I have no complaints. They were very hospitable and remember me from the last time I came here. And as for tipping when I go out to eat I EXPECT to tip. It’s a restaurant.
Service was horrendous. Never coming back here again. The servers kept ignoring us at the door and they never greeted us at all. We had to flag them down to bring our tableware and menus. After that, other customers had to tell the server to come over to our table. The place wasn’t even busy, there were only two other tables at the time. The dim sum was mediocre at best. Very bland, tasted like old oil and was too greasy. The worst dim sum I’ve ever had. When I didn’t tip, the server kept demanding a tip and then chased us out saying we should have gotten take out. The service here is unacceptable.
This unassuming restaurant, that people often walk and drive by unknowingly, could easily be the best Chinese restaurant in all of Hamilton. My staples are their Yang Chow fried rice, Spicy Salt Fried Tofu, and either a meat or veggie dish depending on what I'd like at that time. The fried tofu in particular is one of our home's faves. The folks who work there are wonderfully accommodating. Come and try great (and authentic) food here at this Hamilton gem.
Food was great. However, the serving staff was inattentive and sat us at a table that hadn't fully been set. We had to ask for basics like napkins and chopsticks (despite every other table around us already having them). When I went to pay, I split the bill with my brother and paid at the bar. When I walked away the one waitress called me back and demanded to know why I hadn't left a tip, when I was going to leave one at the table in cash. Probably won't be going back due to the embarrassment of that and her entitlement.
Here's an update, we came back to try these dishes; they were extremely flavoursome! -Fresh Steamed Scallop -Shanghai Chow Mein -Seafood Combo in Phoenix Nest -Chicken Wings Service was satisfactory; no pressure to tip. Will come again! --------Original Posted February 2024: This is one of the few remaining places left that serves authentic Chinese cuisine in Hamilton and has been around for over 20 years. I noticed the low reviews; it's unfortunate, so I'll give my experience. Service: We came here for dinner and the service was good, considering how busy it was at the time. Price: I feel the price is in line with another authentic Chinese restaurant in Hamilton. You cannot compare this to an all-you-can eat buffet or Canadian-Chinese takeout restaurant. Food: I think the food is delicious! Remember, these are authentic flavours. If you are looking for a waterdown version, then I recommend finding a Canadian-Chinese place. We ordered the following dishes: -Crab meat with fish maw soup -Steam Fish with light soya sauce -Gai Lan with garlic and oyster sauce -Hong Kong Style lobster -Special Fried Rice (Fu-Kin) Note that some of these items were not on the menu, but are popular dishes. You'll have to ask the server at the time. Tipping: We did not get pressured to tip at all. We also feel that tipping is something that is earned. Either we got lucky and did not encounter that person, or they've gotten their act together. If so, I think this place can, and deserves better ratings if they maintain the delicious food and good service. Best of luck!
Very delicious and affordable dim sum!!! Food was also very tasty! Everything is made to order, super hot and fresh!!! Good service as well, it was too bad they don’t serve the steamed rice rolls after 4pm and my family and I got there at about 6pm, I was really looking forward to it but that’s okay because we were able to enjoy the other dishes we ordered!! I used to go to this restaurant all the time when I was younger and it was very nostalgic to visit again. If you want good quality Chinese food, this is the place to order it!!!
This is the first dim sum restaurant I have tried in Hamilton. I saw the reviews and photos so it seemed like a great choice for authentic Chinese dim sum. We were so happy that we ended up coming here and trying it out. I grew up in Asia so I am pretty picky when it comes to dim sum dishes. I was so happy to try every dish we ordered as it tasted so much like home. You definitely need to try this place out!!! Affordable prices too with lots of seating. This is however not a place that has the carts tag go by.
Dim Sum was ok when I went there. Stir fried Vermicilli tasted good. I agree the place is a little dirty, but in Hamilton that's pretty much the standard there. Will go back and try dinner. Update 2016-04-16 Dim sum here is improving. It is getting better. The most amazing thing is, the supper here is great. They cook authentic Chinese dishes (no chicken balls). I can assure you, you may not like dim sum, but supper will amaze you on a way you never expect. This is a cantonese style supper, remember :) Update 2019-05-05 I am visiting this reataurant from time to time, even I moved to Mississauga. Just cannot let go of the traditional, authentic canton chinese taste that you seldom fine anyway. Nowadays, it is tough to find authentic Canton dishes. I encourage you guys to try their Chinese dishes. Update 2024-06 We went there recently after a Niagara Fall trip. We were there for an authentic Cantonese dinner. The food was, as usual, fitting the stomach of Cantonese people. I feel that I need to update because I owe the photos for the review.
Very disappointed. I used to eat there alot. Now the food and service has gone downhill. The food tasted very bad to me and was not what I asked for. The staff did nothing to compensate me. So I left and I will never eat there again and would not recommend it.
Great Dim Sum and regular Chinese food.. quick service. Moved to Hamilton recently and I have tried several Chinese restaurants and by far Crystal Dynasty is the best.
Chi and Jane are great waitresses .
The restaurant is beautiful. We had « dinner for two » with chicken. They gave us a lot of food but nothing was really tasty.
Really bad bad service, they kept ignoring us and treating us badly. Asking for at least a 10% tip MANDATORY is insane, tip is something customers decide whether giving it or not. One of the servers grabbed me and told me to pay the 10% tip even though the bill was over a $100 like. The food was also not the best and extremely greasy. Not coming back again ever, please do better and treat ur customers better, pay more attention and respect them!!
Love this place! Amazing authentic food- great value. Out absolutely favourite restaurant! Food
The rice dish was not spicy, I would have asked them to spice it up a bit.
Good food, but the forced gratuity at the end ruined it all. Never heard mandatory tipping as a law before, interesting way to not only intimidate your customer but also scam unsuspecting international Chinese students.
I go here all the time for dim sum. My favourite is the egg buns. I give this place 5 stars just for those eggs buns!! I craved them all the time. The chef apparently makes them by hand, thats why theyre so good! They let me purchase some frozen to enjoy at home and Im so happy!! The filling is the perfect combo of sweet and salty with a nice texture and the bun is so soft and fluffy *drooools* I also always order the fish maw soup and stir fried veggies. Salted fish and chicken fried rice and beef noodles are delishhhh too! Go go and try! Tell them Margie sent you... They wont know who youre talking about but do it anyway! Lol
Terrible. I was born and raised in Asia and this was the worst dim sum Ive ever eaten. The workers are also incredibly rude, despite speaking Cantonese with them. They also argue with you regarding the tip. Id rather eat grass than come back here.
Bad food (undercooked veggies, bone shards in meat, and just bland overall) and they force you to tip 10% or 15%. If you tell them Ill choose the tip myself, they argue with you. Very rude workers, and the food is nowhere near good enough to back up their rudeness. I dont know why anybody would willingly return here after the first time. Also, they delete some poor reviews (my friend wrote a negative review and it was deleted not long after), further showing their incompetence. I rarely write reviews, but this place was an exception.
Food is good
Excellent food & service. My family and I ordered a dinner for 3 and the food was hot and delicious. All dishes from the start to finish was served to our table with care!
Have ordered from them many times previously including tonights dish orange chicken with broccoli. The chicken was inedible, essentially pure breaded cartilage, chewy beyond belief and no chicken meat apparent. I could not swallow any of it. I did call to complain and they offered to replace it but no refund or credit. At this point I certainly dont want anything else from them Too bad as this was a standard go-to for us.
..And there We were. Walking uphill across town in the rain backwards to get to where yelp Google and TripAdvisor claimed definitely top 10 and maybe top three depending on review site! Humidity clung and the winds eriely grazed our ankles as our tummys grumbled. There it was, the sign! This sign was a beacon in the dark of night. A lovely recess from the hard tamper of the concrete below. Eyes wide and mouths even wider. The tables set for all to enjoy. Yellow and red fabrics draped from furniture to floor. Blinding the ever indulging eyes. And the service behind the counter sported a beautiful faux pink silk. So ever majestic and mesmerizing. We had takeout so the decor meant nothing to us. Upon the monetary transaction we had discovered the prices they boasted were far higher than the online representative of the Justeat.ca variety. We paid and grumbled for the cost even though we received a 10 percent discount for pickup. Got home, unpacked and continuously grew with excitement due to the weight of the combined bag. It was no schnitzel but wow what a feast. Chicken, chicken, shrimp, pork, vegetables and egg rolls. We ate it was good. Were full. But guess what? Guess what? No damn fortune cookies. The menu we borrowed proudly informed us of fortune cookies with every dinner... No soya (not soy) sauce, no plum sauce, no forks, no fortune cookies, no good! Because of this despite the smiles, the decor, and the lovely flavours within the dishes. Two mother Fin stars.
Iconic dim sum place
We ordered from the menus with pictures. Food is good but the service is really bad. Also we asked for steamed noodle pork and they brought shrimp instead, they replaced when we asked though. They just don t look at you and listen or make a conversation. They bring on time too. Price is decent too. Just they lack customer service!
First impressions look like they are still recovering. The was notbthat great until I let her know this place was recommended by a friend. We wanted din sum which most was nit available at that time. We tried the rest of the menu, and the food was possibly the best in hamilton. Food : 5/5
Food is average but turnaround time was fairly quick. We went on a weekend and were asked by staff to tip a mandatory minimum of $15? A family member covered the bill and added a $5 through the machine and offered an extra $5 in cash to the staff. He was told by staff that they needed $5 extra? Absolutely not. Tips are not mandatory by any means. If the service is good, a tip will be provided. There was no mention of gratuity on the menu or vocalized by staff so there is no reason for them to shake you down for every nickel and dime (even the tea is charged per person!) you have. I recommend eating elsewhere to save yourself from the headache. Parking: Parking in back
Great spot for Dim Sum and Chinese is Hamilton. Staff is friendly and the restaurant was busy on a Sunday afternoon for Dim Sum which is always a good sign. Grabbed take and the food was really good. This place in now one of my go toos in the Hammer
The meal cost 55 after tax, and I paid 60 in cash. The female cashier got mad at me and made me pay a tip of more than 10%. Because I was taking my children out and I had more concerns, I didnt care too much about you. These few cents wont make me poor. It is said that many Chinese restaurants only charge cash and make mandatory tipping for Chinese compatriots. They have always carried out the glorious tradition of Chinese people cheating Chinese people. I feel ashamed to be Chinese. Especially those international students who have no roots and duckweeds, they have been tricked by you over and over again. I advise you businessmen to be kind. Otherwise, I really think you businesses need to be rectified by the relevant departments. Fire safety, food health, Department of Labor, CRA, find out.
Some marked improvements since the last two years Ive been here and honestly, comparable to some restaurants in Toronto. For Hamilton, since Chinese food is a rarity, I would even dare say the best Chinese restaurant in Hamilton. Authentic food, well priced, service is decent and not understaffed like other Chinese restaurants.
I rarely write reviews, but this one cant go unsaid. We ordered lobster takeout plus 5 extra dishes for a special birthday dinner. We were so upset about the lobster. They gave it to us in a very small take out container with both claws missing and on top of that, only 3 small pieces of the tail meat!! So mostly shells in the container. It cost $50 only for the lobster, Im guessing they must of kept all the good pieces for themselves! Never going back!
We keep coming back because the food is fabulous! We drive an hour and a half. Highly recommend for Dim Sum.
Always good food and service.
best chinese restaurant! very very cost effective, lovely staff, and great food! would go again! Food
Go-to spot in Hamilton for Dim Sum and Chinese food. Service is always friendly!
Wonderful authentic Chinese food! Try the delicious shrimp dumpling wonton soup and excellent dim sum menu.
good dimsum food
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Beyond horrible service, less than sub par food, extremely unhygienic practices (how they remain open, is beyond reason), and after all this, they bully and force tipping on their customers. This place used to be fantastic in its heyday. Not sure when things went off the rails, but this is really bad people. Youve been warned.
Delicious and affordable Dim Sun ! Basic and lots of variety . One of our favourites - deep fried beancurd with spicy salt . Big restaurant , lots of room . Very friendly staff too .
Too much oiled, salted,
Truly delicious authentic traditional dim sum. Affordable and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Food was incredible and the service was very friendly and accomodating. Would highly recommend for large groups.
The absolute WORST service I stopped going because the food was not the same Today being Chinese new years It took 30 minutes to receive one thing The girl said we are busy I said all you had to tell me was it would ha but if a wait I am at 40 minutes and my whole dim sum order has not arrived I am shocked they are busy!!! Parking: Lots of parking
Traditional Chinese restaurant in hamilton. Good to have here. Did I say Traditional?
Service is very slow
the food we had was very delicious and had very good service!!!
Food is prepared fresh and tastes good. No changes as of today Feb. 10th.
I remember going here a few weeks ago and food and service was good.
Very nice chinese restaurant that had delicious dim sum. A very savoury sweet and sour chicken. Parking a little small.
Great food. Just dont go in while theyre busy.
We dine in every weekend for the dimsum and xo sauce fried noodles. Delicious
We love coming here for dimsum! Its so good and priced well! The cooking tastes like someones grandma made it (its very delicious and gives you a warm cozy feeling in your tummy).
Great time
Food and price is so good had my wedding here. Great service
Not much that is perfect in this world unfortunately but one can always find decent food and i found it with Crystal Dynasty Restaurant......i will definetly order again and again
Been going here for 20 years, always solid Chinese food and service. Ordered after they had opened back up after some renovations and the food was not good. Eggplant was very bitter, shanghai noodles needed some love and we received the wrong pork dish, which would have been fine if it wasnt mediocre. Almost feels like new management as we knew no one when we picked up our order and the food was no where near what it had been for 20 years.
Food was okay but service was extremely slow with only two servers. There was little to no food; most of the food that I wanted to order were all sold out. Would not come again
Dim sum here is very good
Had the best Cantonese food here. It was hot, artfully displayed and plentiful. Prices are a tad higher but well worth it. The hot and sour soup is a must and would probably serve 3 to 6 people. We will be bakc
The worst food I ve ever had in my life. I had to throw out the food because I feel like I would ve got food poisoning from it.
Their food has gone downhill since reopening and they messed up our order. They are busy though so it must be better when you eat in.
The review below I made 4 years ago and for a few years I would have rated this place 4 stars but the dinner for two we had tonight barely made 2 stars and not sure Ill be back. Food wasnt up to its usual standard and it cost nearly 60 bucks for 2. Best authentic Chinese restaurant in Hamilton.i was really impressed by everything. The service was fast and friendly. The 7 dishes we ordered were all made with fresh ingredients and tasted great. The spring rolls were huge and freshly made. Nice round tables with plenty of seating even for large groups. Family friendly and reasonable priced.
Authentic fare at an affordable price? Then this place in Hamilton is a must go to place. Typically offering Dimsum in the afternoons, this place has a decent a la carte fare for dinners. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options at a Chinese restaurant? It s like asking, for coal in Newcastle :) Parking: There is ample parking behind the restaurant as also across the street
I dont usually write a review but today I got to say something. I saw other reviews mentioning the tipping problem about this restaurant. I have my story to share. We usually came to this place in week days & usually there was only 1 waitress for the whole restaurant & she was good. She didn t specifically ask for tipping amount. Today Saturday, we went there and there were 2 other waitresses that I never saw in the week days. When it came to pay the bill, which was around $ 97 dollars, I left 5 dollars tip to them because I got no service at all. The 2 waitresses didn t let us go, they claimed we should leave at least 10 % more. Their manner was rude, exactly like a bandit beggar on street. They said it was understandable to leave at least 10% tip on top of the bill amount. I told them they should tell the owner to print their set rule on the bill, otherwise, it would bring up the confrontation with customers. They kept on saying that if we don t want to tip, better ordered take out. It was very rude to say that. It s a way to drive out the business. They should know that tipping at restaurant isnt mandatory but as an appreciation. What did they do to gain the customers appreciation? I think these 2 particularly weekends waitresses have problem to understand the etiquette.
This place is mad over priced. Went here for dimsun. Youre telling me we ordered abt 8 items and the total came to a total about 73$.. almost $9/dish.. how tf. Markham isnt even that pricey and the food is way better. This is definitely the last time I visit this place.
The food Here was very good The one who served us was nice but I asked and it wasnt listed for food for one and she goes no kidna rude to me I felt forced to order sperete dishes to have a decent meal here and yet on the take out menu it says for one makes no sense to me at all so I spent about 50$ and felt forced to tip more then I felt comfortable with I said I can tip as much as I feel comfortable with! Dont tell me I need to tip more I felt I was token advantage of and payed way of my budget
The service was awful. Waitresses were talking bad words to a customer in Cantonese. They assumed that ppl dont understand them but unfortunately I heard about that. Never go there again in my life.
Ate at this place and had a terrible experience. Food took so long to come and the waitresses are rude when you follow up. While paying, the waitress demanded that we at the least give them 10% tip. The workers here are very unprofessional, rude, and lack manners. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place. To the workers working here: You get a tip when you serve your customers well. You cannot demand for something that you do not deserve.
The food s very good but the service is very bad. The waitresses are rude in the cashier and will force you to pay a tip of minimum 15% if you don t they will literally tell you if you don t pay tip better order takeout. Tip is an appreciation but not mandatory. The service is very bad they won t give you even water without asking. They waitress are here very mannerless, unprofessional and they charged over the menu price and said it was because of shrimp and but the menu had shrimps included. Avoid this place. It made my date night go so bad.
today my daughter and i went to get some dim sum as a treat. While we were waiting for our food, which was only 5 items me and my daughter over hear a waitress tell an older gentleman to give 10 dollar tip. The lady proceeded to tell the man i need 10 dollars and wasn t letting him leave. it took 30 min for 5 items and they didn t im even give us soy sauce or even napkins. then when my daughter went to pay she told my daughter whose only 12 40.70 and my daughter when to give her the money. the service was terrible so i told her don t tip because of what she told that man. but when my daughter gave the money she said tips not included you need to give me 15% and she kept telling my daughter 15% 15%.We left in a hurry and overall it was a terrible experience.
I didn t know that tipping is MANDATORY. I WAS FORCED TO GIVE 13% TIP. They were asking for $5.00 more for tip to make it 13%.To make the argument short. I just gave them $5 extra. Definitely. I will not be coming back. Food is just regular, nothing special about the taste.
NEVER AGAIN! Service and Food was horrible! Found a strand of hair in one of my dish and its time for us to pay, the server said our TIP wasnt enough and DEMANDED for more. First of all, your service wasnt that great, second, theres a hair in your food which the server didnt even bother apologizing and you guys are demanding for more tip. You guys are lucky, I wasnt KAREN and didnt freak out and make a scene when I found a hair in Ur food and I even gave you a decent TIP but you had the audacity to ask for more. Seeing the same reviews as other people here makes me think that this tip thing is very normal in this place. Im not gonna be surprise of this place shuts down because they lose alot of customers.
One of the better Chinese restaurant in Hamilton. Pricier than similar restaurants in the GTA.
Ok - so the food is amazing. Wanted to savour some classics so we got lemon chicken, chicken balls, won ton soup, Cantonese lo mein chicken fried rice and Tai Doy. Nothing was mushy, everything was flavourful but not too salty. Plentiful meat and vegetables in the dishes that had noodles. Ideal comfort food for a quarantine night in. Very easy phone conversation, menu has numbers so I listed each with the name of the item, no issues with communication. As South Sea is gone from Hamilton went looking elsewhere for Chinese and loved the selection of menu items here. Everything was hot, fresh, delicious with large portions and fair prices. Enough for 2-3 dinners for 2 people, $65 total plus tip. Picked up inside, paid cash and received a 10% discount. The order was ready 30min after ordering as well which was appreciated on a hectic Friday evening.
hot and sour soup is the best
Sadly the worst chinese takeout ever ... Not sure what the hell they put in that meal. Go somewhere else
Always an amazing treat. You know its good when most patrons are Asian. A mainstay of the Hamilton area. Its been in business so long and the food is so consistently good.
Delicious food!
Not the best looking restaurant but you can always count on getting amazing tasting food
All day dimsum yeah~~~ Better than expected I was little hesitant due to their slightly low rating but surprisingly delicious dishes !!!
It would be better if they sell halal. Not a good restaurant
Ordered hours earlier on doordash for a dinner delivery. At delivery time, I get a phone call that the order was cancelled. So I called the restaurant, someone answered the phone ready to take my order. I asked why my order was cancelled. We got too busy. THEN MAYBE STOP TAKING MORE ORDERS THAN YOU CAN FILL. Thanks for ruining our entire evening. What a waste of time.
Classic Chinese.
Update : the service has declined horribly. Last few times I went it just gets worse. Use to be good. But will NEVER go back. If you go be prepared to be leave angry!! Food and service are great. They are improving their ambiance .. but if your looking for good food this is your place UPDATE 2022; Staff has changed and prices up since the pandemic. But the food is still better than most Chinese food restaurants
I m wondering if it has changed ownership. Used to be the best place in the city. Now the service is extremely slow. It seems they have more staff now but you are ignored for a long time and have to wait just to get a menu. Waitresses were just talking to each other. When we ordered our food we ask her to bring all the food at once, not just one entree and then wait 5 minutes for the next one, etc. (This has happened several times lately. We go here once a week.) The first entree came out alone and waited and waited for the next ones to come. We asked the waitress at least for our rice, and she said they were out and we would have to wait, but at least it would be fresh. Our other entrees came one at a time and still no rice. Finally we had finished eating and the rice came. She said it was because they were busy. There was us and one other table. If that s busy in a large restaurant with three waitresses then they should get into another line of business. When we went to pay, my friend who was picking up the bill was told that he didn t add a tip and needed to. He said tip is for good service and said he would not give one this time. We usually tip 20%. She started yelling at him. Well this was our last time in this restaurant. Was much better when there was one waitress who knew what she was doing and managed to keep the best service around. Goodbye Dynasty!
Well prepared, good service, a nice place to experience Chinese food
We dined in, the bill was $55.80. We asked for more water, napkins and a take out box, our original server didnt bother to check on us so she didnt serve us properly at the end. We think the owner brought us the napkins, and take out box because she wasnt our server but she forgot about the water so I had to call her over and remind her about it. She brought the water but it wasnt cold, there was no ice either. When I decided not to tip the original server due to the service not being good because she didnt bother to check on us and had the owner bring warm water to us instead of cold. I paid the bill to the second server that was behind the counter but when I returned back to my table, the second server approached us and told us the tip wasnt included in the bill and that it is recommended that I tip them 10%, she proceeded to repeat that while insisting for TIP and mentioned to me that when you dine in, and you get served, you must tip the server but if I didnt want to tip them then I shouldve done take out. She also said This is CANADA!!!! So you must TIP US!!! I told both of the servers the reason why I didnt tip, they got angry and they started speaking amongst themselves in their language about us and said they were too busy as their reasoning for the bad service, then as I was walking towards the exit, I didnt want to argue with them but they said FINE DONT COME BACK THEN!!!!! The orignal server came and joined the second server and also mentioned the fact that because we didnt tip, we shouldnt come back. The original server said Next time have a take out & DONT DINE IN then she said DONT COME BACK!!!! So at the end of the day, we got bad service, disrespected so we wont come back there and we dont recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Wonderful place to have lunch or dinner with a friend. Highly recommended
Good food enjoyed flavours that were new to me
I had been told by several people over the years to try this restaurant as I had been looking for authentic Chinese food but couldnt find it anywhere. Crystal Dynasty definitely did not disappoint! The food was delicious and slightly less greasy than most other Chinese food Ive had. Lots of variety and the staff were friendly and welcoming
The place is nice and very beautiful in its decoration, the service is good as well as the response time, taking into account that there were few waitresses, they make an effort to serve quickly, the food is good and tasty, I dont know much about Chinese food so I played it safe with a basic dish, but from what I could see on their menu and other tables they have more traditional food options. The soup is very delicious. 60 CAD for food for 2 people (which is easily enough for 3)
Dimsum is just right. Nothing spectacular but just what you would expect when you are looking for some good dimsum. It hit the spot. Its right next to a bubble tea spot if you are looking for dessert after. Parking: Limited parking along the side and back of the building
The food was not the best and somehow uncooked. To be honest, If I could give no stars I would! The restaurant doesnt practice good hygiene. We found hair in our food twice and they dont clean the table with proper supplies. After we finished, our stomachs started feeling weird. We had to go to the washroom multiple times and a family member had diarrhea. Lastly, the service wasnt that good and they said how we were lying about fhe hair in food. Wont recommend going.
No condiments....had to ask....pretty slow for first dim sum orders but they were fresh and hot....tasty...
Good taste & price
Amazing place and the food is just out of this world delicious and you wont go anywhere else for chinese food and the staff are friendly and the place is clean.
Very good tasting food.
I remember the food used to be good. Our family went to eat there every weekend a few years ago. We even held parties here. But we returned after a couple years because we didnt feel like traveling too far this morning and man...its not the same. The service and food are poor. Our food was also cold and our dumplings were soggy and overcooked, the fried spring rolls were drenched in oil, the deep fried squids were practically just plain fried dough, the tea was just watered down, and untensils were dirty. We all had upset stomaches after about an hour. Of course, my family and I ate everything to prevent waste but the experience and taste wasnt good so we only left a small tip (normally we give about 25% tips to all restaurants we eat at) but the waitress straight up asked us for more and didnt let us to leave unless we gave more!! The audacity?? She was impatient and upset about it. It was extremely rude. She was nice before but after seeing what we gave her, her attitude changed drastically. We didnt want to argue in front of the other customers so we complied and gave her $10 more but tips are OPTIONAL!! It shouldnt be required. Why should it be the customers job to pay YOUR bills? It should be your EMPLOYERS job. Be careful next time you confront your customers about the tips you want. Some will just take their money back after you ask for more so rudely like that. Safe to say that we were speechless and angry leaving this restaurant. We usually go to mississauga or Toronto for dim sum but we wanted to give this place another try for old times sake but OBVIOUSLY, we were right to have not returned all these years. We will not be going back any time soon if not never.
Im changing my 5 star review to a 1 star. Solely for them demanding us for TIPS when the food and service wasnt even that great to begin with. Waitress for upset and agitated when we didnt give her enough. I see others have the same issue.
Their food is good but their hours change on a whim with no updates on their website on here. Wasted gas from Niagara only to find them closed when they are supposed to open NOT THE FIRST TIME
Very different but very very good, as always onder for one and theres enough for two, including the soups, very nice tasting food
I ordered some Chinese won ton soup, it was really excellent. Only they didn t give me any soy sauce. I got the Singapore noodles, unfortunately they were dried out and the consistency of the noodles was weird. I got the appetizer of fried dumplings and they were pretty good.
My friend and I had dinner tonight at this restaurant. It was about time to pay the bill, so I took it and gave the waitress cash. At the time, she came back with my changes and took 7 dollars out of it, and walked away. Is this how the restaurant treats regular customers?
Everything was delicious! Favorite place downtown :) Food : 5/5
Best Dim Sum in Hamilton
Nice Place
Asked for egg rolls got veg, rolls. breaded shrimp was under cooked.
You gotta try the pan fried pork dumplings. Aces.
I have only been to this restaurant since COVID began as we moved in September to Hamilton. Their Dim Sum and homemade Chinese food dinner for takeout are delicious. Family ran business and they are friendly/accommodating every time. Food has always been fresh and with that make sure you give them around 30 to 40 minutes to complete your order. We have ordered Dim Sum from them the most and never disappoints.
Stay away from here! Ordered sweet and sour pork and was definitely not fresh meat. My wife and I both have severe bouts of vomiting and this was the only meal we had all day. This place needs to be investigated. Be careful
Bad
Always fantastic...I always order dim sum and wonton soup...we love it...service and prices are great!
Good food reasonable prices......
First and last time. I ordered the Beef with fried thick noodles and ended up getting a complete different dish of beef and vegetables with so much oil. If they didn t have what I wanted, they could have contacted me to cancel the order .unprofessional. Never again.
Their food is excellent but the folks that take orders over the phone need to speak reasonably good English. I ordered only one dish and it took 10 minutes to explain which dish I wanted. I couldnt find it on the huge menu. The call taker started by asking me for my phone number and then started asking the kitchen staff if they had the order ready for that number. I finally got it through to her that I hadnt even ordered yet. Getting that point across the language barrier was exhausting.
No carts, quieter than Montreal with the rush and excitement to get dishes first off carts, but the food is wonderful if you like Dim Sum. A must try treat at crystal Dynasty
I ordered take out through door dash and the food was terrible. The only reason I ordered from here is because everyone said it was the best in town its definitely not the best in town its the worst in town Ill never order from here again. Trust me save your money and order from somewhere else. I would recommend South sea on Ottawa st.
I ordered two dim sums and one fried beef river. Among them, the signature dim sum... the xiaolongbao was really average, and the other two were above average!
Came here for dim sum today and it was great. Not one complaint. To be honest, I wasn t sure what to expect with these mixed reviews, but the food was delicious and the service was great. Yes the decor is a little tired, but you don t go to a restaurant to look at the decor, you go to fill your bellies, people!!
Love the folks there. Missed them!!
Service was slow and rude. My bill was $57. I handed them 3 x $20 bill. As I was reaching to get more change. The waitress told me, Its not enough for tip. TIP stands for, To Insure Promptness. Our food came late and I was demanded to give extra. Because she insisted, I wish I didnt give them more change. I do not recommend their service or restaurant.
A good option if youre looking for dim sum. The place looks a bit tired, but most people dining here will not be coming here for the decor. Lots of traditional dim sum dishes, as well as many other dishes you can supplement with. Everything is ordered off the menu and there are no carts that are pushed around that is more typical of dim sum restaurants in Toronto.
Perfect fried squed
Really good food!
Nice quaint sit down Chinese Restaurant. Food is good and reasonably priced. Parking onsite.
Very good dim sum. Service is great. Comparable prices.
Authentic Chinese cuisine, one of the best in town. All day dim sum as well!
My new favourite spot for dim sum in Hamilton!
Always always amazing food. Wish we could have a sit down meal but the take out was just great.
flavor not the same anymore...another business dying...too bad they were once a good place to eat authentic Chinese.
Authentic chinese food. My family and I have been going here since I was little. They have been in business for a very long time now and the quality of the food is still as great as I remember it being.
Ordered take out (of course). Had the sweet and sour chicken and the spicy eggplant and pork. They were bothe excellent and very tastey. Both dishes came out to over $28. Bit higher than other chinese food restaurants but very authentic. This place has dishes that most others do not have. If you enjoy authentic chinese food and dont mind paying a bit more then this is the place for you!
Good service, big servings, fast and efficient, good Chinese food, reasonable prices.
Good Chinese food. Reasonable price. Good service because of extra staff
Tea is too expensive. Even if you bring your own tea, it still depends on the person. It is the most expensive in Toronto. But the quality of the tea is not very good, and the quality of the dim sum (lower level) is not very good either, some of them are refrigerated goods, and the amount of noodles is small. Service level is average. A far cry from the Chinese restaurants in Toronto.
Sometimes, the wait at this restaurant is unbearable. Other times, the food is way too expensive. Sometimes, they add tip into the bill without telling us. We ordered 2 lobsters on June 5th, and they priced it at $80 without telling us. Food totalled over $150 before tax, but we did not receive discounts or the advertised extra free dish. We left a $10 tip, but the server was not satisfied. So, she wanted us to get the takeout box and plastic bag by myself. I have been a repeat customer for 4 years. I wont revisit this restaurant in the future.
My most disappointed experience dining in a restaurant. After few years going there yo get a take out, I finally decided to dine in and found service was very terrible. Had to wait forever to place an order. Unfortunately only 1 waitress that can speak english, take payment, take order for the entire restaurant. Ordered 2 items and second item came out after I had finished and ready for payment. Server insisted I have to pay for food I did not eat. And directly entered 20% gratuity on the payment machine, said it is a mandatory charge. Terrible service, will never go back.
Excellent Food, Always Fresh, And Kind Staff always Pushing out the best in Chinese and SZECHUAN Cuisine Never Left Hungry Always Left Full!!! My Compliments to the Chef You can tell he takes Pride in his Work!!! One Of the Best Chinese Restaurant in Hamilton. Thank-you Crystal Dynasty For Very Good Food Will definitely be Returning Soon!!!
Food was fantastic but the service was god awful.
Food is above average in Hamilton. But dont expect waitresses to be kind to you because they are not. In my opinion if owner hire english speaking and more polite waitresses their sales will go up much more.
The Male waiter was very very good services
They are mad
Great food
First time we go, very nice, great food an excellent service. Cant wait to go again!!
Very good at this price
Nice owner, delicious Food.
Back in the day every Sunday was crystal Dynasty day . Been in business a very long time. Give them a try. .
We mainly go here for their soup dumplings. They have two flavours. House and crab. The crab is better.
Superb dim sum and delicious chinese food. Okay to good staff. Can be pricey so be sure you know what youre spending.
We have Dim Sum, Food is great.
Descent food, good service. There are not too many Chinese restaurants in Hamilton, this is the closest to authentic
Good place for dim sum on a weekend. Friendly staff and the food is tasty.
Really disgusting inedible short ribs.
The food taste is not that good and with bad service I got , I will not be going back and dont recommend to coworkers/anyone. If I could give no star to this LOUSY restaurant, I will do it, the cashier lady I think she is the owner is way too mean, rude, I asked to pay with 2 cards, company credit card and personal card, she refused, why it is so hard? I have limit amount for expenses. She is just a bxxch!!
This is (by far) the best Chinese restaurant in Hamilton. The food is fresh, and full of flavour. The Hot and Sour soup is fantastic; I havent had a better take on this dish anywhere in Ontario. If you ask, they will make the dishes more traditional and less Canadian style; I recommend this.
If I could give no star, I would. What a disappointing experience. I had heard good things about this restaurant and the friend I went with spoke highly of it. Things started out poorly when the woman yelled across the restaurant for us to sit down. We sat and after a minute or two, were brought menus and a pot of tea. My friend poured the tea and when I picked up the cup, it was so hot, I spilled it. My fault, but neither staff, who saw what happened, came to offer a towel or cloth to clean things up. The table cloth (not to mention my clothes) was soaked. With no offer of help, I simply rolled the table cloth onto the table so it wouldn t continue to drip on me. We ordered some dim sum to start (ok, but not great) and then ordered a dinner to share. The shrimp came with sweet and sour sauce all over it which was not listed on the menu. Yuk! We requested water and waited over ten minutes for it. Not once did anyone come to see if we needed anything or ask if we were enjoying our meal. The two staff were cordial and friendly to everyone who entered the restaurant but were not to us. When my friend went up to pay, she was unsure of how to leave the tip on the machine so was told it could be left on the table. One of the staff followed her back to the table and gave out to me for spilling the tea and expecting them to do anything about it. We hadn t even stood up yet, and she was giving out about the tip. I don t think I ve ever done this before, but we did not leave one. They will never see a nickel of my money! Very disappointing!
Terrible, rude service, when leaving we tipped $5 and she ran up to us and told us to not tip so little next time and gave it back. We tip depending on the service, won t be coming back next time
Great dim sum
The food was very tasty Service was quick and courteous Ill return soon
This was one of my favorite Chinese restaurants from markham to Hamilton. When it was good,it was memorable and you couldnt eat enough. And then one day, someone in the restaurant had a revelation to be super stingy and start charging outrageous prices for things that used to be free and just sneak it on the bill. Free tea turned into 2 dollars per person. Beer went from 4 to 7 .( 7 dollars for a bottle is criminal btw...even NYC dont charge that for a bottle). Then the food got smaller and more expensive at the same time. You can do one,or the other, but you shouldnt do both. Might as well just charge double cuz it feels the same. Or at least explain what happened and people will understand. But man... And then the rude service that used to be tolerable, got inexcusable. Why do I have to feel like I did something wrong when going to a restaurant? I might try them again in the future to see if things change, which I hope it does. The food when the main chef is working,is amazing.... I also contemplated hiring uber to deliver takeout to my home in Burlington... Please crystal, get your act together and your restaurant will be packed!
The food here is actual authentic Chinese food! This has been my favorite chinese restaurant for the last 15 yrs. Highly recommend
