Good food good portions, will definitely return

Really nice little dinner that fits right into the neighbourhood. Nice blend between the comforts of a locals spot while being inviting to the first timers. I use this as a great spot for first business meetings of the day to combine comfort and productivity. If you can get a few things done over a omelette you are often to a strong start to the day. Huge variety of options so consider for lunch and dinner. Good prices so you know the value is there.

You wont find a place in Hamilton with better breakfast, better variety, better service and certainly not better value than here!!! Time and time again this place proves itself to be the right decision when were craving brunch.

This was my first time visiting this diner and it was fantastic. The service was great, she checked on us frequently. My wife and I love visiting these ma and pa restaurants and this one doesnt disappoint. I had the philly cheesesteak and my wife had the chicken souvlaki dinner, they were both excellent and the portions are very generous. We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu, as platters that came out to other tables looked amazing. I wish I knew about this place years ago!! Please, please dont change anything.

We attended this restaurant last sunday (27th) after coming from another lunch place with wait times that werent accurate to find out that we were waiting a full hour for our food which is ridiculous. We were sat down at just before 1 and put our order in at 1. We then waited until 2 to get our food... We had two kids that were also hungry, at the very least it wouldve been nice to at least get the kids meal quickly as it was just chicken finges and fríes... we ordered a well done steak at the table but that doesnt mean it should have taken a full hour for that. Our group barelly even ate when the food came because we were so disappointed. We had to asl for the kids meals 45 minutes in and asked why the food was taking so long the waitress said well since its well done it takes longer... (1hour I dont think so). The rest of us had simple sandwiches and burger steak which shouldve been able to be done in 20min or so maximum. That all being said we recognize it was busy, but not even a sorry for how long it took and no discount for the inconvenience. Again with hungry kids this amplified our displeasure for the service. Consider this as a disappointed couple of small familias that would reccomend to go elsewhere if its busy as it seems they use that as an excuse for poor service. This was not a great first impression. Overall disappointing

Had a lovely bowl of French onion soup that came with garlic toast. Hubby had the corned beef on Rye, fries, coleslaw, and pickles. For an extra $.25 you get an additional sandwich. Delish.

They charge for take out containers. Could not finish my meal due to medical condition. On my bill they charged 50 cents for one take out box. My last visit

Small diner (17 tables) so the wait for a tabe can be longer at the usual busy times but its worth it. The food is amazing. Staff are hospitable (possibly under staffed so waiting for food/service can be longer during busy times). Good sized portions.

Very typical for a small, hometown diner. But I knew we were in for a treat based on the wait for a table. The portions were generous and the prices were fair.

We were left standing at the door... l asked if we could sit at a table, and they said no. Someone will sit you, but we were ignored. There were empty tables with clean wrapped cutlery, but three servers could not sit us. We left

The food experience was great. I had a soap special with my date. The dinner had a special charm to it. although I felt like the folks there were judgmental, given that I was dating a guy. the place gets a lot of old people. Well other then that the place could use a little care, some parts of it is held together with duck tap.

There was a small error in our order and the waitress went above and beyond to get it rectified beyond our expectations. We have always had great experiences at West End and this was no exception. Food

Great family Diner experience. The staff were awesome and the portions were huge. I just had the bacon grilled cheese, so my dish was pretty basic. Bacon and cheese make everything taste great. It came with fries which remind me of the fries you get at Costco. They made the sandwich with a generous amount of cheese and bacon! Yum. My family all had different things - fish and chips, spaghetti, chicken wrap, hamburger, liver, and chicken fingers. They all loved their food and couldnt finish their dinner because the portions were big. Now, to be fair, my familys tastebuds are different from mine. I gave 5-stars for food because everyone was happy with their food and what they ordered. They dont like spice - think typical English-style flavour. Basically - if you think YT food is too basic then this place is probably not for you. But if you love simple dishes with not too much seasoning then youll love it here. Or if you like to do substitutions, theyre game. We did go a bit late, but I didnt feel rushed to finish eating as they were trying to close up for then night. We did go just an hour before closing and it took 30 mins for the food to come out (I think thats pretty quick for an eight top) Friendly atmosphere, and what I expect of a diner place. I say its worth it to try the place at least once to see if the foods something you like. I dont live in the area, so I dont see myself going there on the regular but Id go back again if Im around and Im craving a gigantic hamburger.

Ordered hamburger and 2 fries. Hamburger was burned, fries werent cooked completely. No replacement or refund was offered.

We had a rather unpleasant experience here (4th Aug 2024). Our group (4 adults and 3 children) were made to feel unwelcome the whole time. Communication was poor from staff when trying to get a table and several people who arrived after us were seated first. Once seated the waitress told us the location of the highchair was dangerous but made no effort to rectify the situation by moving us. Instead, she was just grumpy about it. When ordering the waitress contined to be rude and didnt explain the side salad properly to our friends who ended up being charged for a side salad they didnt want which also arrived 30+ mins before the rest of the food! I never managed to get milk for my coffee, and they forgot the childrens milk to drink. They didnt bring cutlery, and the food took more than 1 hour. When we mentioned this, the waitress argued the point and claimed it hadnt been an hour even though it had! The food was ok once it finally arrived, but the potatoes on my wifes eggs Benedict were cold. It wasnt particularly busy when all this happened but we wont be returning after this very unpleasant experience. Kid-friendliness: Not particularly child friendly.

Service was great. I ordered a West End Omelette, which was great, except that the cheddar cheese was not in the omelette, but appeared more like a slice of cheese on the top, and the toast was stuck to the cheese. Otherwise, a good alternative to a western omelette. Would go back again.

Excellent service, food and value. Was there with my in-laws (one of their favorite spots). My wife and I ordered the smoked meat sandwich which was $20.25 but for an extra 25 cents (really) you get a 2nd sandwich and both are stacked with meat. So we both ate very well from the 1 order. My father in law wanted just a garden salad which would have been $12 but the waitress suggested that he just upgrade the side salad on my mother in laws order for $4 and it was huge. We were delighted with everything. Highly recommended.

One of my all-time favourite places to eat! Try the chicken parm.. an a solute must have! And the portions? Absolutely huge! We always come to West End on special occasions and will keep coming!

I went here often years back before moving to Halifax, just leaving a review now. I still remember the potatoes, so good. I only ever got breakfast but that is all I ever wanted. If it isnt broken, dont fix it or whatever. Now leave me alone!

Our first time visiting this restaurant and everything was awesome. Our server Georgia was so helpful and courteous. She came to us right away to take our order, then brought us great food at a great price. We will definately be back.

Went to this place on a wim and what a great place to grab some food. From the moment we walked in we were greated and seated. The staff is wonderful and so nice and friendly. The food is delicious and came out hot and presented great. Just cause its a diner they sure present as a high end resturant but not. Highly recommend this place. Will be returning.

Not being acknowledged for over 20 min even when they have eyes contact with you they will just avoid it. Very bad experience the phone can be answered but the people just stand in front of you can t not be acknowledged terrible! Never come back

I went there about 3 weeks ago, with my friend I have known since I was a small child. We sat there talking for about 2-3 hours it was wonderful & the food is absolutely to die for, its out of this world!! Everything is Homemade & the owners walk around asking the customers, if they are doing fine & if they need anything else. Everyone should experience this wonderful dining & delightful food marvel! I recommend this restaurant for people who enjoy food & also all the Foodies in town! Enjoy my friends!!

Expensive bland food. Service was slow and unfriendly

Updating my review as they have been great since things went back to normal after the pandemic. The food has been consistently great with the pancakes and Benny being a highlight for us. The staff is very kind and attentive. I usually get the steak and eggs which while is sometimes more done then I liked it is still very tasty and high quality. The deep fried home fries are to die for as well. Recommend getting a side pancake as it s delicious and very fluffy *** Love this place but honestly just dont order the steak and eggs. They will cook it medium well no matter how you order it. Its also supposed to be strip loin and Im pretty sure they are trying to pass off some other cut. The potatoes eggs or whatever else you order here is great just my steak hasnt been good the last few times. Not sure if its a cost thing which is understandable. Service is kind of inconsistent too depending which server you get. Today ours didnt check on us once had to talk up to the front to pay my bill.

Went this evening with my husband and son. Very disappointed, and sadly could tell Greg was not working just by what our food looked like when it came out. I order the West End salad always, generally it has a generous amount of meat and cheese on it, and tonight there was no turkey, and very little ham. I had to order extra cheese in order to actually have more than just lettuce and and few slices of cucumber. When I mentioned this to our server, her response was oh, thats a salad Not sure what it was to mean. Disappointed

We are long time customers of the diner, and never had a bad meal there.The food is good and plentiful portions. Only negatives are, go early on the weekend as there are line ups, and the parking lot is always full. Parking: Go early in the day, or you may have trouble finding a parking spot.

The old asian waitress that works there is one of the rudest and most obnoxious people that Ive ever met. If shes waiting your table, prepare for a terrible experience.

This is an old style diner that we go to for plain good food, breakfast for us. Reasonably priced too. We keep coming back a number of times a year. People are very friendly.

Very Canadian (American) place. I liked it. Its pretty simple in the middle, but thats what it is. Its worth noting that the portions here are huge. These are really huge. So order carefully - sometimes you can take one serving for two. The prices are normal - 5 people, we ate a lot and paid 120 Canadian dollars. They even took beer. So its relatively inexpensive.

My wife and I always loved coming here when I was going to McMaster for school. The food is great and the portions are huge!

Food was great, large portions, price matched what we got. About $20 for Eggs Benny, which is pricier in comparison to other diners, but again, portions were bigger. Great home fries and fruit salad. The only thing I would say is that coffee refills werent as often as we would have liked. We also werent served water, which is almost expected at any dining restaurant. Its good for families I would say, lots of families with little ones.

Walked in Saturday at 1:00pm and wasnt even acknowledged after literally standing there for 15 minutes. Tons of people walking by (several of them were eating and completely visible by the front door). The phone was able to be answered on the first ring, but couldnt even make eye contact with 3 hungry, paying customers? It sucks because we loved it last time we were in and now we wont be returning.

The owner of the restaurant is in there at night cooking all the food himself to make sure that you get it just the way you want it. The value is outstanding. It just so happens that the owner is the guy who bought my dads old house and when we went there we were treated like royalty. Thanks very much and we will be back often.

I like the food here. We had to wait for your table, I spent that time watching them kitchen front line. One employee plated orders while shoving food in his mouth. One french fry after another. It made me feel ill.

I have been here many times. The food is very good and the portions are very large. I have not had a meal here I did not enjoy. I have been for breakfast, lunch and supper many times. I have introduced several people to this restaurant and not a single person has had a complaint. Definatley if you are interested in trying please do so. The only thing is that they do have wait times that very from 15 minutes onwards but, it is worth the wait. The staff at times can be forgetful or seem to rush you but this is a rare occasion.

Ordered simple breakfast, asked for hot sauce... waited 10 minutes before getting up and going to the front and asking for it again, took another 10 minutes before the waitress dropped it off at the table. Was there for over 30 minutes and not once did the waitress come and ask if we wanted more coffee. The homefries are very tasteless, no seasoning, the bacon was perfect and the sausage too. When we were done our meal she came by and asked if we wanted more coffee, where were you when we actually would have liked another cup of coffee? Horrible service all together. Definitely not going back. Very slow service!

First thing we were asked is so you re ready to order? , no introduction, no what can I get you to drink, nothing like that just so you re ready to order? We ordered our lunch entrées with water and may be 10 minutes or so who we think was the manager came around and asked has anyone helped yet and we said we had ordered but we haven t gotten our water yet. So Fran, our waitress then brought the water and kind of just dropped it on the table. Food was brought out by the manager. Next time we saw Fran, we were asked how are the waters in kind of a condescending tone. At that time as well we received a phone call with a family emergency and we had to get the bill which came quick and we left. Food was actually not bad, we both had wraps which had a good amount of chicken. It was busy, but Fran did not seem to want to be there. It s kind of left a sour taste in our mouth probably won t be back.

Once seated, we were served and ordered immediately. We then sat for an hour while inquiring at three different times. On the 4th inquiry as to our food order we were told their now working on it. We then had to leave without sandwichs, we could wait no longer. I cannot answer any experience questions below as we didnt get anything served to us.

We have eaten almost everything on the menu. The portions are large & prices are great. Come very hungry or expect to take some home. The food is delicious. We mostly eat the Greek selection, but the diner food is excellent too. The turkey club is slices of cooked turkey breast, not lunch meat. Last time I had breakfast for dinner while the rest of my group had actual dinner items. If its on the menu, you can order it any time of day. Our waitress told us. My dad really enjoys the liver & onions, moms go to is the hot beef sandwich. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp & easy entry for wheelchairs, plus wide isles. No door button, you need a helper holding it.

This restaurant has a vintage feel to it. One of the oldest in the neighbourhood of McMaster University. We had Schnitzel and Eggs Benedict - Cream and Spinach. Both tasted divine. Servers were polite and I will recommend visiting this place if you are in Hamilton. Parking: Enough parking spots

Ive just thought to read the reviews for the past month after deciding not to return to this restaurant. Ive been a sporadic diner there over many years and I can attest to the fact that the wait times and service have deteriorated to the point of being unacceptable. Unfortunately the server staff performance overshadows everything else.

After visiting a conservation park we decided to stop there to eat, without any prior recommendations, just looking at Google. We chose our table and the service was quick and impeccable. The menu is quite large, so it took us a while to choose. We were three people... we ordered tenders, fishn chips and schnitzel with mushroom sauce. The dishes were delicious, very well prepared and well served. We loved the experience and will definitely be back!!! I recommend!!! Kid-friendliness: Kids menu

Find the employees very disrespectful of the customers and especially the handicapped and seniors when you notice that the employees take the closest parking to the restaurant. Back in my day, employees parked furthest away from the business to allow the ones who are paying there wages access to the business. Lots of other places to eat.

Usually a great place to come! Unfortunately, tonight we ordered our usual meals and waited just over an hour to have our food taken away after complaining about a long wait period. After a small complaint about waiting, the staff said that we weren t going to pay and took our food out of our hands. Loved wasting an hour of my Friday night watching the staff avoid our table since we first arrived. It was extremely disappointing, left hungry and mad.

I love going to the West End Diner for a meal with family and friends. The staff are always ready to greet you with kindness and are quick to take your order and bring out some authentic dinner food. If you like livers then this is the place to go.

Probably the best go to brekkie spot after a morning hike run or walk

My friends and I went for lunch and were super disappointed in the service we recieved. Our server was quick to take our orders and then practically disappeared, barely checking in on us for the whole almost hour long wait it took for them to make a sandwhich and a couple classic breakfast orders. We had to ask for an eta on our meals and when we finally had them, the server never checked once to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. She avoided our table and yet brought our checks out quite quick. The food is great, but I wouldnt wait that long for it.

Okay so this is where the old folks go for dinner. The food is pretty good. Choice includes a couple of sides along with the main plate. And to boot there is a beverage... All with senior considerations. The staff are hard working and friendly. Great place for older or younger people to dine.
