French Tavern
The first time in a while I’ve left truly, fully satisfied and over the moon about a restaurant. From start to finish it was an Incredible experience. We came here for a friends birthday and were sat at the back near (practically in the kitchen). Our server was excellent and always checking in. Espresso martini was delicious. I ordered the Elk Sliders which were also delicious. All four of us had a bite of each others dinner and all of them were great. The chocolate mousse was to die for. There’s something to be said about the atmosphere alone, but to keep the long and the end of it short — one of the best spots in Hamilton. No bullshit. You get great food and great service for the well deserved price point. 10/10
Went to this gem for a late night dinner with my family. We decided on sharing many dishes with the highlights being the Escargot, Oysters, Sausage and Squid, and of course anything grilled on the wood oven. Yes that’s the beef! Menu is creative and unique. The aesthetic of the tavern is a mix between restored saloon and art nouveau. Nearly everything matched minus the music, which ranged from Nickelback to Weezer, strange combo! I’d highly recommend this spot and do yourself a favour and order outside your comfort zone. Definitely will be back.
First visit on a Monday, to celebrate a birthday. The staff were lovely and knowledgeable. We learned that Monday is half price bottles of wine. Woohoo! We shared several plates between four of us. The top sirloin plate for two was VERY generous!! Everything was top notch from the service to the cocktails to the delicious plates. We sat near the back and enjoyed the aroma of the curing room which made us even hungrier. The decor is reminiscent of a tavern but stylishly done and I absolutely love that they left some memories of the previous bar that was there for so many years. If you visit, they are not hard to figure out 😉. Cheers to Le Tambour for maintaining some of Hamilton's rock and roll infamy 🥃❤️. Can't wait to go back....
I recently celebrated a birthday at Tambour and was very impressed by not only the food but also the service. We shared the tempura, salad, and olives to start. Everything was delicious, the salad was a standout for me. For my main I had the bavette frites. Steak was perfectly cooked and the peppercorn sauce was fab! They also have a great wine list. We got a bottle of the riesling and it was a 10/10! With my steak I had a glass of the syrah which paired perfectly. We finished our night off with dessert and our server went our of their way to put candles in the desserts for me which was very sweet. I want to take a moment to also recognize the amazing service we received. Not only was our server attentive and friendly, we also noticed that it was only them and the bartender working that night. Huge shoutout to the staff for making my birthday so special! I will certainly be back.
Beautiful new restaurant in Hamilton, owned by one of my favourite spots in Toronto - cote de boeuf! Beautiful location at the corner of James st N and Barton. Interior design is spot on. They have a meat room which features a window so you can see the quality of the meat. They cook on an open flame inside the restaurant and ohhh lord, the smell is soooo good, even from the street. Steak is huge, fries are huge, steak tartare is huge. Perfect. My only complaint is that my steak was not cooked to my liking, too raw for me. They were really nice about it. Would return again to try some other menu items. The
Great spot in the north end serving up some tasty French inspired cuisine. The bavette frites, elk sliders, fire roasted hen, and smoked habanero wings were very flavourful. Pricey for the portion size.
One of if not the best restaurants in Hamilton. We had the kitchen seats and seeing the meat locker while watching the dishes constructed was an experience. The oysters were fantastic and the escargot was melt in your mouth delicious. When the sirloin came, our minds were blown! Gorgeous presentation and huge portions. 3 people could easily split this with appetizers. The ONLY feedback I have to give is that the veggies weren’t cooked the way they should be. Carrots were a little too mushy, asparagus was too hard. The mushrooms were perfect though and it was not enough for me to deduct any stars. Service was amazing! We can’t wait to try brunch.
Had a great dinner last night with great service! We got oysters and escargot to start and two pepper steaks, smash burger, and hazelnut crusted trout (4 people) all the mains and sides were great but our favourite side was the fries, so crispy and soft on the inside. We all enjoyed every bite of our meal and can’t wait to return. My only feedback is for the fish, as it’s cooked whole on the fire grill I believe it is but being a restaurant with darker lighting for atmosphere and smaller tables it is hard to eat when it isn’t filleted for you by your table by someone or cleaned after serving it in the kitchen and brought back…. The crust was amazing and so well cooked I am not sure if that is possible but a suggestion to allow the customer to fully enjoy it better cause there was so much greatness just hard to enjoy in the setting.
Easily the best restaurant in Hamilton!
Really very good.
Ice little neighborhood French bistro. We had a really nice meal with cocktails
Not sure what has happened but nothing like our experience earlier this year. We arrived for 7 pm reservation to apologies that they didn t have a proper table for 4 so set us down at one regular table and one tiny table. Then came back to replace tiny table. Next they told us there were two specials, but the sea bass was already sold out (at 7 pm on a Saturday evening!). Server also recommended the homemade brioche with our starter salad, only to come back to tell us it too was sold out. Salad and substitute salad was good but then continued downhill - frites were pretty much inedible. We expressed our disappointment with two of the meals, and server offered a free dessert. Nice we said and ordered the crème brûlée on her recommendation. Few minutes later, oh sorry that is also sold out. Manager eventually came to apologize, said their new supplier of frites was a problem and a common complaint. Didn t comp anything but have gave us a $50 gift card for future visit. Maybe we ll use it for cocktails before eating at a proper restaurant.
All sizzle, no substance. We had a group of 11 for a special occasion dinner with family and friends. Steaks were awful, chewy and undercooked. We left large chunks of meat on the plate, not one person was happy with their meal. We aren t picky eaters and arrived happy and excited. Left hungry and ripped off. Prices are outrageous given how bad the food is. Would not recommend!
Love this place. The atmosphere was fantastic. Service was great and the Bavette Frites was perfect. I wish I took a picture, but it looked so good I dug in right away.
the steak tartare is the best ive ever tried, the atmosphere is gorgeous ambient and rustic - chefs kiss - this is one of my favourite restaurants in Hamilton!
Stopped in for drinks & appetizers. Warm inviting vibe. Will definitely be back for dinner sometime.
This is the only, of the higher end, restaurants in Hamilton that s worth the price. I m hyper critical when I m shelling out the big bucks for a meal and this place is (practically) flawless. We went on a Tuesday and it wasn t too busy.
Great place! Steak Tartare was brilliant as was the cocktail Will definitely go back
Excellent food. Great atmosphere. A diamond in the rough!
Ive been to this place twice. The first time was amazing. I sat near the kitchen, ordered steak which was delicious and the service was on point. The atmosphere is also nice. I went again around 6 months later and my expierience was not good. Mostly because the service when I sat at the bar was terrible. The waiter never topped up my glass of wine, asked if we wanted to reuse the same cutlary for the next totally different dish and was not attentive at all. The saving grace was the music was good and most of the food too.
Great food.. top sirloin was well cooked. Great value for your dollar. Cocktails also tasted great.
One of if not the best restaurant in Hamilton! From the group that does Toronto s Union, Cote de Boeuf and Hearts Tavern (Kimberley, ON). Great fresh food, quality steaks and the best wine list in Hamilton (because Hamilton restaurants generally suck at wine). We re lucky to have this restaurant in town! Only knock is, they gotta get better at handling / managing reservations and responding to their email!
I took my husband to Le Tambour for his birthday. The food and service were impeccable. Weve been there before and each time its great. My husband went up to the chef to talk about how they prepared food and the chef was so willing to discuss and share the way they did things. Our waitress was completely cheerful and helped to make it an excellent evening.
Popped in for a drink and chill very friendly and helpful staff really enjoyed our visit thanks to your team
Delicious food, spectacular drinks and excellent service. I will return for sure
Hidden gem with reasonably priced high-end food. Love their steaks that feed 2. Food
Branch menu is a must try!
Shared the sirloin steak and we didnt finish it, flavour was not great. Will be back for the burger though, it was delicious, the wings too.
Cod Cake Benny and Poached Eggs with Crispy Polenta were both nothing short of epic. Gorgeous space with intoxicating aromas wafting from the wood fire grill. Go, go right now. Cant wait to return for dinner.
Food was excellent! Service was great as well. Loved seeing the aging cave for the beef on site. The menu was really creative. We ended up with the burger, the honey habanero wings, oysters and a green salad. We finished with the ginger cake and ice cream. Everything was delicious!
We sat at the Chefs seating in the back, and it was fantastic! The food, experience, ambiance, and conversation were all on point, and perfect. Big thank you to Laura and Spencer for being the perfect hosts, and making the best recommendations (the Tambour salad! )
The chicken wings are amazing which explains their random existence on this menu. Perfect Oysters and cocktails in a beautiful and very very cool setting. The steak and the vegetables that accompanied it tasted charred and burnt but weren t actually charred and burnt, the kitchen is a sight to behold in itself with all the massive quality cuts going on the open flame but in a method that I couldn t help think WTF do you think you are doing with that meat there fella? I will return, as the overall dining experience was still very good but next time I think we may skip the steak.
Service and food were excellent. Please invest in better chairs! The barstools were rickety and the barrels could use the tiniest footrest. The picnic table patio was lower quality than the food and service.
Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere. Could definitely eat two entrees. Going back just for the pork belly. The oysters are some of the freshest ive ever had
Amazing place! The food is amazing, the oysters and rib eye I can simply say that it is my favorite restaurant! 100/10
We had a 7pm reservation. No one came to bring water or take a drink order by 7:27pm. We walked out, the service was brutal and staff were chatting away with each other. Don t waste your time or money here.
Food and service not that great
Went on two separate occasions for dinner and brunch, highly recommend ! Delicious fresh food, great oysters and amazing steaks.
A lovely bistro/tavern with delicious made from scratch food.
Went for brunch and had a great meal! Caesars were delicious, oysters were fresh and our mains were fantastic! Our server was great and we loved the vibe of the restaurant. Will definitely return to try dinner service. Only note is there was a bit of a wait for our food, we werent in a rush though!
Quite ridiculously pretentious.
Thank you Laura for an amazing dinner! We loved your service and the tasting. See you soon Food : 5/5
Easily the best restaurant in Hamilton. Went for brunch and for dinner and everyone at the table was impressed by the food and service. We will be back!!!!
Vegetarian options: This is definitely a meat-heavy place but theyve got a few excellent vegetarian options! Food
Excellent food, server on the bar gave great recommendations and each dish was a slam dunk. Forget our servers name but he had cool traditional tattoos.
Orgasm on a plate! Glad I found this place. Great selection of wine it was a dream to find wine from Alsace the moule frite in white wine sauce scrumptious the escargot authentic and the cocktails with St Germain up my alley a gem in Hamilton you must eat here and that Domaine Pilstner is the right beer for a muggy day! now moving on to dessert can t wait! Also service amazing!
Great food. Great service.
Beautiful inside, great service, but VERY disappointed with my meal. I ordered the prime rib. It had a prime rib price tag. What did I get? The slices of prime rib were approximately the size and thickness of your average pieces of bacon. I was embarrassed for La Tambour. Our apps were tasty and my two other companions dinners were delicious. Im still stunned. $65 for two slices the size of crispy bacon. Cmon guys.
Loved this place. Brunch was excellent. So many unique choices. A very classy restaurant. Beautiful decor. Staff and server very accommodating.
I came here two days ago with my aunt. We stumbled across it as we were walking around the city. From the host to the server to the part owner the service was phenomenal. The cocktail I had was so good and the food was to die for. My aunt and I will be returning and recommending this fantastic establishment.
My wife and I decided to celebrate our 30yrs of marriage here. Were Hamiltonians forged and raised. Kendall not only greeted us, she was amazing with recommendations and knowledge on the menu and wines. A complimentary glass of bubbly when we sat down set the tone. Food was delicious, wine and bubbly paired well with the food. The last time my wife and I were at the location it was to see the LOTL when it was This Aint Hollywood. Great to see the venue back to life and really liked how it was set up inside. Great job team and Kendall. Maybe well see you back at it, rockin and reppin #CBGBs #TheLow. Youll definitely see us back for the food, ambience and atmosphere. Thank you!
one of the best dinners i ve had ever!!! and our waitress was phenomenal, great ambiance and delicious food
I was dying to try Le Tambour and the atmosphere, staff and cocktails didnt disappoint. However the food was a bit of a different story. We had their salad which was great but the habanero wings didnt blow us away and the bavet frites wasnt nearly as good as I expected - the steak was cooked perfectly but was tough and the side salad was too bitter to eat. The peppercorn sauce was on the bland end but the fries were perfect. With so many other options Im not sure Id return unfortunately
I decided to celebrate my partner s birthday here. We both enjoyed our meal and felt the space had a good vibe. The service however from server was less than stellar. She came off as less than enthusiastic about serving us; her composure was lacking. Overall the service didn t align with the high price point of the food. Thankfully the table next to us were friendly enthusiastic regulars that inadvertently made up for the lackluster server.
Great food stuff, we all four went for something different and all ended up happy! Showed ip out of the blue and they found us a table! Awesome. Cocktails were enjoyed! Great vibe. Food
The four of us ordered a total of three main courses, which were generally very tasty and fresh. However, the Thursday special prime rib was particularly disappointing. The meat was undercooked and extremely tough, making it nearly impossible to chew. We ended up having to spit it out. Despite our efforts to bring this to the attention of the staff, we received no response. This dish was certainly not worth the $65 price.
Just stopped by on a nice Saturday afternoon to enjoy some patio drinks, but cool little place Ill go back again.
Just stumbled upon this fabulous gem while looking for a bite today! The menu should simply read flavors! We had two brunch plates and cocktails... amazing beers, coffee, desert... just cant wait to visit again! Wonderful service with some great ideas for nearby tourist attractions!!!
best resto in hamilton bar-none
I really don t like to give small businesses bad reviews because I know there are a lot of challenges that go into running them. I really love supporting local restaurants and have never written a bad review as I m super tolerable and understanding. That being said . We waited 2 hours for bread. This dining experience was so terrible I actually couldn t believe it. We waited half an hour for 6 oysters, an hour and a half for 6 escargot and a tiny fish dish which were good but not filling. Two hours in we finally got our bread, and then asparagus. The bill was $200. I actually could not believe it I was paying that price for mediocre (not bad but not fine dining) food, with Jack Astors level of service. I was so excited to try this restaurant and didn t except to be so disappointed. We did receive one free desert for our wait, but there was no rush or real apology for the sub par service and food from a higher end restaurant. We left and got pizza immediately afterwards to fill us up after our $200 meal.
Had a great night, food was excellent, service was prompt, good vibe, we need more of these types of spots in Hamilton! Go check it out you wont be sorry.
The best fries in Hamilton! Incredible service, the waiters really were so so kind 10/10 chefs kiss!
Had a terrific evening Vegetarian options: We split a couple tasty vegetarian items: carrot salad and polenta Food : 5/5 |
Baby friendly brunch spot with space for stroller, high chair available and zero side eye shade for having a baby there - any parents reading this know what I m talking about! It was in fact quite the opposite and the staff were great with our baby. Delicious food, great service & beautiful space. Great accommodating an allergy at our table. With those big bright windows it made for a PERFECT rainy day brunch! Thanks folks!
What a delightful restaurant! We enjoyed our dinner immensely. Loved the decorations and the chic artful style. The background music was not too loud, allowing for easeful conversation. Appetizers, main courses and desserts - all get high praise. We are thrilled to have discovered Le Tambour. Looking forward to many more meals there.
Hi. I love this place but last xmas there were less tables and it was much quieter and cozy. Food and service is amazing. I went for my bday in april and we were squished between 2 other tables and we were so close we might as well have been sitting with them. The noise level was extremely loud w everyone talking over each other. It was dissapointing.
Good drinks
I personally don t know how others would give this less than 5*. We ve been many times since they ve opened and it s consistently great each time. Kendall has usually been our server and they are just outstanding! The food is always creative and well executed. The wines are interesting and cocktails are banging. My favourite restaurant in downtown. And best fries in town (the tavern ones specifically but both are *muah*).
Positives: Fantastic service. The staff are top notch and remember you and your orders. The styling of the space is great. It balances high end with the historical grit of the space. The layout of the restaurant is very nice (really could use more coat hooks) and I love that you can vary where you eat (kitchen/dining/bar). Cons: While Ive enjoyed appetizers here, I feel like I could provide notes on every main Ive had. I was hoping the menu would vary more frequently and that Id see more classical french cuisine rather than more fusion dishes. The food isnt bad, Ive just felt a little disappointed. The restaurant is still new and I hope they find the swing of it and the head chef finds their voice. Overall, give it a try and definitely get oysters and a cocktail.
Came on a Wednesday night, the place was busy and full of laughter. We reserved a table and was seated right away. Had the Wednesday night steak special to share. Good deal, good food, good vibes and good people. Had a great night! One of my new favourite spots in Hamilton for a fancier dining experience.
Wanted to love this place but it came up really short. Gave up our reservation - I guess 7:45pm is a really common time for people with my name to show up. Anyway after that we sat at the front window to watch the wildlife, which was fine, but we d booked this time to avoid hi-tops and poor seats. I digress. They were out of many items, drinks didn t arrive for a half an hour until we asked, no space for coats, very very but nice service, etc. Ultimately you can walk 500m and spend the same amount and get 5/5 stars, so they have to do. Shoutout to the escargot that was great though.
The food was very good! Some of the portions were quite small like the salad and the clams/ mussels. The atmosphere was great with a nice ambiance. Drinks were delicious as well. We reserved a table for 8:30 and unfortunately wasn t seated until 9pm. We were seated at the bar for our wait which allowed us to have some drinks to start but we were quite hungry at the end of 30 mins. Once seated, it took a while for our server to get to us as well. It was a very busy Saturday night so that may have contributed to the waits even though we had a reservation.
Went for Brunch, food and service were great. Will come back for dinner.
Great atmosphere food was good, I found the steak a little chwey
Unreal food. New favourite in Hamilton, a must try!!
My favourite restaurant in Hamilton. For starters, it is a VIBE. I ve been twice and both times have felt transported to Paris. The decor is stunning: from the charming mural, to the oval bar, the lighting details, the perfect dining playlists, and (almost) floor to ceiling windows. The food is exceptional. Have been for brunch & dinner - the menu offers curated range and meals are prepared with care and pride. Front of house staff have easy breezy & welcoming energy while effortlessly tending to guests needs. Appropriately priced for the experience. Bravo on elevating the Steeltown restaurant scene. Wheelchair accessibility: Street level
We had a great time out with family. Nice, pleasant place. Server was very good. We will go back.
Flawless. I loved the food, ambience, and the service. It is one of the most enjoyable spots that I have been to in a long time. I will be coming back again for sure.
We had the steak for two is was cooked to perfection ! The environment was nice and relaxing .lService was outstanding !
Great find in Hamilton! The restaurant has great charm, and I would come for any time of day/meal here. Inviting bar at the entryway and staff are friendly. Love seeing a diverse range of customers too! Cant wait to visit again.
We had a reservation for 5 and we were like 17 minutes early, I asked if that was okay and considering the restaurant was open since 10am, the hostess asked if we could come back in 20 mins and that they werent ready yet.. Our reservation was for the bar anyway so my husband asked if we could sit at the bar and have a drink, because the hostess rubbed me the wrong way from the get go, I wanted to go have a drink somewhere else and not come back at all, fortunately hes the calm one, hostess with zero common sense aside, everyone else was amazing. The bar tender with the rose tattoo on the side of his face was an absolute stud. He gave us recommendations and we followed every single one of them and we had the best meal. Every bar tender and wait staff was friendly and very helpful but the food was 100/10. From the wings, to the elk sliders to our entree, it was fantastic. As someone who used to live at this aint Hollywood, visiting the restaurant was bitter sweet. They did a beautiful job.
Great homey atmosphere. Friendly knowledgeable staff. The food is top notch cooked over open flame.
I honestly can t remember a better dinner out in Hamilton. This is our new favourite restaurant. The space is so nice, the staff were all incredible, we had dinner in the kitchen and watched Ian building dinners all night, our server was amazing and the food truly wonderful. I d give them 6-stars if I could. We ll be back - soon!
The renovations to Hollywood are beautiful and the new place has a great vibe overall. Andrew our server was amazing and very attentive. The food left much to be desired. The scallops were so overcooked they tasted rubbery. The dish only had 3 scallops on it and they were some of the smallest Ive ever seen. That and a couple of pieces of sausage and greens on a bed of white beans. Couldnt believe it was $29. The fries tasted bland and did not seem fresh cut. The plop of store-bought mayo they put on top looked and tasted bad. The oysters were fantastic but we were told they were from Maiseys Pearl, which makes sense.
At Le Tambour, the kitchen table offers a standout dining experience for groups, providing a direct view into the bustling kitchen. The restaurants lively atmosphere enhances the meal, making it enjoyable for gatherings. The food is notable for its creativity and quality, with a menu that cleverly combines traditional elements with new ideas. Our server, Kendal, was attentive and contributed positively to our overall experience, ensuring everything went smoothly. In summary, Le Tambour is a great choice for those looking for quality meals in a vibrant setting, backed by excellent service.
Everything about my experience at Le Tambour was wonderful. I truly dont have anything negative to say. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is warm, comfortable, and clean and the staff are all knowledgeable and attentive. Go when you can!
Go for the chocolate tart!!!!! Among other delicious things. Food - my coworker and myself shared a bunch of appetizers. We had the smoked trout, the elk, sliders, and a salad. Everything was delicious. I did find the dressing on the Salad that came with the smoked trout, was a little too heavily dressed. But that was my only negative. The chocolate tart was flipping amazing. I would go back just for that. Service - We did not have reservations, but they happily seated us at a bar seat no problem. We sat at the back and it was kind of cool because you can watch the chefs in action. Ambiance - Loved the ambience. The vibe was very cool, very downtown hipstery kind of thing. Bathrooms - The bathrooms were OK. Clean enough, but they weren t anything special. Other - The only weird thing I will note is that on the menu it doesn t specify which items are appetizers, and which items are full meals. The chef ended up explaining that part to us, thankfully otherwise we probably would ve ordered the wrong size portions. All in all. Great place. Dietary restrictions: I generally avoid dairy and meat. Sometimes I indulge in this case I did. If I were avoiding those things, I would probably find this place a little bit difficult.
Great cocktails, great service and better food. oysters were great, olives were great, steak was excellent & vibe was on point! Food : 5/5
I miss The Taint
Dining out doesnt get better than this
We love this place.
I don t give great reviews easily and come in with high expectations - yet this was one of the best meals we have shared in the last year. Le Tambour salad was the best salad in a long while. Steak au poivre was delicious. Worth the cost, will return! One of Hamilton s best restaurants already.
Top notch in all areas
great food and vibes, so lucky to have this spot in Hamilton
Hands down best food and experience I ve had in recent memory, in Hamilton and surrounding area beyond. Kendall is out of this world. Everyone that was part of our night sitting at the bar, watching gorgeous, intentional food be prepared and served with genuine love and passion made for an incredible experience. Recommendations all on point. Ambiance was perfect. I didn t want to leave! My tastebuds were mindfucked in the best way. Le Tambour - bravo is not sufficient. I d volunteer yo wash dishes just to be part of this vibe. Exceptional. 15/10.
Fantastic atmosphere and ambience.
Service was not good. Food was meh. The atmosphere is LOUD. My steak had so much gristle I ate only part of it. The couple next to us had the sharing stake and it was incredibly tough and full of gristle so maybe they just dont pick good meat. I think it was cooked correctly. It was just poor quality meat. Flavours were basic, fries were fine. The salad was adequate. First visit and last.
Terrible I wouldnt eat there with your mouth.
Two of us enjoyed a Sunday brunch here. The vibe was welcoming and relaxed. Service was attentive and quick. The flavour combination of the salad was a delight, the smash burger was excellent and the fries were that amazing combination of light and crispy. This was our first time here, and definitely not our last!
Le Tambour Tavern is an incredible addition to Hamiltons food scene. As with Chef Teo Pauls other restaurants, the food and vibes at Le Tambour are 10/10. Highlights for us were the shrimp cocktail, the whole fish, and the fire roasted hen. The addition of the open fire adds a nice spin and flavour to a lot of their classic dishes. Dont skip out on the ginger cake!
Been here twice. Service is immaculate. Food is very delicious and it has a chic atmosphere. Whats not to love.
We sat at the bar, clearly reminded us of Union. Food and drinks were spot on. The design is perfect and service was top notch. I hope this place does really well. will return for sure
Not only are the esthetics inside of this gem delightful but the staff, particularly the bar tender we had, are wonderful. The food is amazing. Highly reccomend!!!
Fantastic evening at Le Tambour last night greatly enjoyed the eclectic rustic, yet elegant ambiance and the attentive service by every member of their very professional team. The food was exceptional from the fresh oysters; to the incredible Elk sliders and finishing with the Bone-in Striploin for two fabulous flavours with surprising notes, that had me asking the Chef and Grillmaster what was their secret? I was very impressed and will return for more
A wonderful dining experience was had by four of on January 6th. The food, service, and ambiance were excellent. The only issue we encountered was the uncomfortable seating/chairs. The tables could also be a bit larger to accomodate the servings. A must try if you have not been.
Le Tambour Tavern is a swanky new spot to enjoy in Hamilton. The moment you walk through the door you are greeted with a smile. The service is friendly and professional which partners well with the delicious cuisine. The ambience is unmatched in Hamilton. The manager Kendall is extremely knowledgeable and very receptive to ensuring you have a great dining experience. Make sure to ask for JC at the bar, to take your cocktail experience to the next level.
Le Tambour is a gem. My wife and I had dinner there this evening, and were totally impressed by both the quality and the value. The decor and atmosphere are understated but classy,. Both drinks and food were first class. The prices were reasonable and the portions were large. Service was excellent, and it would be hard to top the overall experience. We will be back.
I ve loved every single visit here so far! The service is amazing. JC is wonderful and Milan makes amazing cocktails. Highly recommend!
Best dining experience I have had in years! Super professional staff, amazing simple well done entrees! Roast vegetables to die for and the best fries ever! Reasonable prices! A classy end to Hamilton s rock venue!
Beautiful restaurant, amazing food and great service! Thank you!
Exceptional meal. Came for brunch, loved half the menu, four of us ordered four different dishes and this is the first restaurant in a long time where after sampling all four, I would have been 100% content with any of them. Easily the best spot Ive been to in Hamilton (and a great meal by any standard).
Our first time eating here was just what me and my partner needed. We had oysters and the tartare with the steak for 2 as an entree they were all top notch. Special ahout out to our server Spencer who took such good care of us.
We had a fabulous evening at Le Tambour Tavern. The food was excellent, the service was incredible and the atmosphere is perfect. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant.
We had a delicious selection of seafood and steak. Service was excellent!
My son took me here for a birthday dinner (70th). I say this as when we arrived for our 7 pm reservation, we were seated at the bar. When my son questioned the hostess, she indicated his Resy reservation indicated he choose a bar reservation. Im guessing the hostess discussed this issue with Alexia, who came over to us with an apology. My son, was very calm throughout and showed Alexia the email he received indicating a table for 2. We had discussed leaving, but on a Saturday night at 7 pm, where else might we go. Obviously my son wanted a table and not bar seating for his mothers 70th birthday dinner. Having said all of this, Alexia was very apologetic and even though they were full, she would keep us in mind if something should open up. They then offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. It was not more than a few minutes later that Alexia said they could seat us in about 45 minutes at a table, or if we would like, at a high table tucked away from the main bar. We opted not to wait and choose the high table also with stools but still a better option than the main bar. After, ordering, our appetizers and mains came quickly and were delicious. Alexia was very attentive and in my opinion saved what could have been a disappointing experience into one that was quite the opposite. My son and I realize that hiccups happen and sometimes on special occasions. How much of online reservations is the fault of the restaurant I have no idea, but I feel Alexia really tried to make it right. She did in fact offer us the table seating when we were part way through our meal and also treated us to a complimentary birthday dessert.
Staff, Food and Vibe are amazing!!
A wonderful atmosphere, a great place for drinks , mocktails and food cooked over an open fire
Not a single critique. Eat here, or youll regret it.
fricking gorgeous
If 10 stars was an option it would be that. I went there on an impromptu date night. The atmosphere is beautiful. The service was spectacular and the food was amazing. I will absolutely be returning.
If youre reading this just go. What a treat.
What a lovely place to be! Service and ambiance was warm and welcoming. Food was fresh and delicious. The crab was wonderful and fun to eat. A great addition to the neighborhood
Really liked the food! Very comparable to their other restaurants in Toronto. My only complaint is that the seating is terrible. All seating at the bar and in the back are stools & high tops, many of which have no back support/are rickety old wooden stools. I made a reservation in advance and booked the dining room specifically so I wouldn t have to sit on a stool at the bar but unfortunately was brought to a large barrel being used as a table. I asked if we could sit at a regular table considering there was about 8 that were available. I was told that those were coming in for a later seating and there would be no time for us to eat before they arrive. An odd response considering a very easy solution would have been to just switch our tables and put someone else at the high top who is coming in later? By the end of the meal I was so uncomfortable and my back was aching from having to contort my body around the barrel (also there were about 3 tables that remained empty for our entire meal we could have easily been sat at). Hopefully they change their seating and if they want to keep so many high tops, I hope they consider making the chairs and tables comfortable because honestly it really ruined the experience for me.
Looking forward to visit this place! Looks really Rustic and chilled. Looks like a Perfect place for the cozy cold evening drink and chill. No review on food yet, but sure it will be delicious!
Had an incredible experience at Le Tambour. Had an impromptu visit here with some friends for dinner. The ambience is really beautiful, staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and everything we ordered (oysters, duck eye, fire grilled whole sea beam - which was the star, and steak frites) was divine. Special shout out to our server, Kate, who was so lovely and deboned our fish for us! Will definitely be back. Fine dining in Hamilton at its best!
Total disappointment!! The renovations are gorgeous and the French fries are dinamite. .. but from the tartare to the escargot to the fatty, gristly steak . .. all left much to be desired! The steak wasnt what you want in a steak but that could be because the grill/fire chef was drinking red wine from beginning to end of our seating 715 pm to about 845 pm. After paying we let our server know our thoughts, which included, commenting on the super uncomfortable tall/high seats around a barrel, which lead to someone else coming over without introduction (I can only guess the manager) saying whats up? to which I repeated my thoughts on watching the grill/fire chef drinking our entire visit and our steak he cooked being not good .. to then being told I can go tell the owner, who is said grill/fire chef, myself?! No thanks We wont be back and I dont think drinking alcohol in your open kitchen is EVER a good look especially if you are the owner
We sat at the window bar and ordered cocktails, fries, and a shrimp cocktail as a late night snack. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was amazing, and the drinks were delicious. Would recommend to everyone in Hamilton.
Dreamy space perfect for date night ~ happy u are here
Amazing dining experience. Highly recommended. Not a cheap place. High quality food, great atmosphere, great staff. Well run for being such a new restaurant. Will definitely go back. Reservation not needed, but highly recommended as they get busier and busier. Compliments to the chefs!
Had a wonderful dinner with friends. Cote de boeuf and whole fish done to perfection! Wonderful staff and great atmosphere.
I knew nothing about Chef/Owner Teo Paul until I read an article about him and his new creation in Hamilton, Le Tambour Tavern, in Toronto Life. Clearly I had been missing something special but no longer! Dont be put off by the Tavern moniker. This is very upscale pub food with prices to match but believe me, its worth every penny. Upon entering Le Tambour, en anglais Drum, through the original slim doorway complete with a brass embossed mail slot, you are struck immediately by the ambience and vibe- a great buzz. Attractive bared original brick walls greet you with three seating options-bar, tables and kichen. I opted for a table but next time its the kitchen. I like being near the action. Immediately greeted by a friendly and helpful host, the service was simply terrific from there on. Kendall our server was very helpful with a wine list that stumped my prodigious knowledge of wines with very unfamiliar entries. The Spanish Gorrondola paired exceptionally well with our starter of fresh oysters. I followed that with an excellent steak tartare, which my followers know, I always order if its available. The only thing I would have added are Capers which I think amplifies the flavour. I followed that with the Nagano sticky ribs with mayo fries and coleslaw. The ribs were superb but I have to say the fries were simply the best I have ever eaten! Beautifully crunchy with a pillowy soft interior and a subtle flavour that I cannot adequately describe. I was so full I had to forgo a dessert but next time... and next time I want to try the Escargots and Côte de Beouf. Try it folks, you will love this wonderful addition to Hamiltons ever growing vibrant dining scene.
We visited last night to celebrate my husband and our daughter s boyfriend s birthdays. What a lovely renovation! The men shared the flamed steak platter and they loved it. Such a perfect signature dish. My daughter and I are vegetarian, so there was less fare for us. We shared the fire roasted veg and polenta and the heirloom tomato salad. We started with olives & baguette. As I said, the fire grilled steak was a hit. Everything else was also wonderful! Here are my only 3 thoughts, given this is a new restaurant in town. First, everyone should go; it s exceptional! Second, I hope there will be more veg-friendly options added because I want to go back. And finally, we were seated at a small high top table which made it awkward for us to manage plates and also made it harder for the servers who had to fly in and remove plates quickly. It was also very loud - I know that s common these days in restaurants but at times we had to shout to hear each other. I m not sure how sound abatement might fit in to the environment (and it may already have tried and failed) but a larger table and a more serene soundscape would have changed wonderful, to perfect.
Our first time here...we came on their first Monday where they had feature $10 cocktails and 12 oysters for $30. Service was super friendly. The oysters and cocktails were delicious! We also tried the tomato salad and elk sliders, both were to die for. We will definitely be back soon.
Just excellent. Thank you Andrew for your attentive service. The oysters and tuna tartare made a perfect start, followed by a bone-in strip which was utterly perfect. Very pleased to have a restaurant of this calibre in our fine city.
Walked in and sat at the bar. Our server Andrew had great recommendations for food & wine! Very cool spot with amazing food!
Cote de Boeuf was outstanding. Great service. A terrific experience in Hamilton.
Came for the first time, sat at the bar and our server Andrew was amazing! So attentive, great conversation and just all around great vibes! Can t wait to come back!
We had such an amazing time at Le Tambour Tavern! Amazing food & atmosphere and our sever/bartender Andrew was an absolute time to say the least. Give this man a gold god damn star. 9/10 would go back again (10/10 if Andrew is our server)
Delicious food, solid menu, tasty cocktails. Andrew was a vibe, fantastic service and well definitely be coming back!
The food was good and JC was a great server. The reason for this review is the terrible service through the manager Kendall. Our vegetables we ordered were a cold (since we waited an hour and a half for our food) and Kendall came and tried to lie to our face that our grilled vegetables were a salad . Furthermore, when we asked for our food packed up, Kendall threw it at our table. The cherry on top was when we were leaving, Kendall said this restaursnt isnt for you people, dont come back. Kendall has no place in the service industry and should be fired!! Kendall has had bad review on google and across the food industry!
Absolutely incredible. I would say it is currently the best restaurant in HAMILTON hands-down. What an amazing experience.
So good! Andrew and Milad are true industry professionals. They have a genuine passion for service and hospitality. We felt so welcomed and its a true rarity to experience this level of attentiveness these days. Weve been to the other three sister restaurants and this makes its own mark.
Incredible food, very attentive staff and a very cool vibe. We will definitely be back.
Went to Le Tambour on a Thursday recently. Couldn t get a reservation online for our preferred time about a week out, so I called and left a voicemail on Monday or Tuesday that week. The manager Kendal called me on Wednesday and got us a table! I knew it was a hot spot so I was very grateful for the reso. Upon arriving I was seated at a great table in the kitchen . FYI it s not quite IN the kitchen, but it s very close, you can see all the action and it was quite warm next to the grill etc. but a very cool table! Unfortunately the seating at this table is not quite a high top, but not a regular low table either, somewhere in between, and on stools. So it is very clear that I am very pregnant and the staff noticed that I would likely be pretty uncomfortable on this stool for the duration of our dinner. Immediately the person who sat us offered me some more comfort, a cushion for the stool, I said yes please. Then a female staff member asked if I d be happy at this table, and suggested if it s possible that there s a better option, would I like to move? So thoughtful and amazing of them, and sure enough within 5 minutes of me arriving I had moved to a much more comfortable regular height table on a cushioned chair no less. It was amazing!! This to say nothing about the service or food - which were both excellent. Our server was efficient, kind, not pushy, never felt rushed or pressured to order right away or order more drinks etc. it was a nice feeling. Two of us ordered the smash burger and two of us ordered the steak. Zero complaints, the food was delicious. And yes, the fries are as good as all the reviews say. Highly recommend this place, me and the girls will 100% be back!
Unreal experience at this restaurant. Really good vibe and the food was fantastic. The thing that made it over the top was the service. Andrew, our server was the best. He took care of us and made sure we left fully satisfied. Also the manager Kendal was very polite and took the time to come to our table to make sure everything was good. 10/10 will go back very soon. - Adrian
Oh. My. Goodness! We had such an awesome time together at Le Tambour. The vibes are amazing, our server was awesome and super friendly as we had lots of questions about the menu. The food was incredible - Elk sliders were top notch. Great spot for a cute date night with 3 areas to sit in (bar, dining room, kitchen) with lots of open space and not feel crowded! Highly recommend!!! Vegetarian options: Roasted veggies with whipped feta. Heirloom tomatoes with buratta cheese.
This spot has been on my go-to list for a while now, and so chuffed that I got to finally experience it for dinner. My dinner date and I both wanted anything that came from that fire pit. We both loved our Steak Poivres cooked to perfection. The Tambour Salad was also perfectly delicious, and I loved my accompanying wine that was a suggestion from our server, Kate. I also appreciated the team approach to service -- our thanks to Kate and Simone for taking care of us. Will definitely be back.
Amazing experience! Obviously the food is incredible, but the staff made the night even more memorable! Thank you for making my mother s 70th a night to remember!
Awesome new spot in town. Shared the steak frites which was definitely enough for two. Dessert was also outstanding. Will definitely be back.
Lovely food in a lovely atmosphere.
Tried this place out on a Friday night. Atmosphere is fantastic, they did a great job on the renovations. Service was excellent, we did not have reservations but they were able to accomodate as it was rather early. Food was good, fries were exceptional. My only concern was the value. My friend had the smash burger which came with fries, and I had the elk sliders which did not come with anything. There was only a $3 difference in price between them, and substantial difference in portion size. I felt the value was not there on my order. Other than that, great place to try.
Excellent, can t wait to return!
The food was excellent. Amazing work chef! Service was excellent as well. Steaks were the most delicious we ever had and on the open fire Merci
went here on the weekend and the service was friendly but pretty slow. Almost an hour between our starters (a salad, bread, oysters and tartare) and mains. I loved the beet salad and everything was well seasoned, but 5 or 6 pieces of grocery store baguette and some olives for $8 was annoying. Our bill was over $300 and it just didn t feel like a $300 experience.
Excellent food, great atmosphere and superb service
Wonderful food and environment! Wine was delicious, fries and steak very good, however our steaks were cold unfortunately, and wait time was very long. We waited about an hour for our food. Dessert was also very good!
Wanted to love this place, but it was not worth the money. Our main course came out 1 1/2 hours after our first course. Our order seemed to have been forgotten because when mains did come out every single dish was undercooked, like they rushed to get them to us quickly.
This place was amazing!!! Definitely will go back! Food was delicious.
Been here twice in the last 30 days. Food, service, and atmosphere are all excellent!
The food was delicious. The wood fire grill makes the entire restaurant smell amazing. Our server was warm and welcoming. Will be back.
I think it s fair to be honest. I am a big supporter of this Restaurant. I ve eaten at all their establishments including Hearts. My last visit everything was great other than my Steak as served on the Steak Frites. The meat so tough it was nearly in edible. Very disappointing. Just in case management reads these reviews it s important for you to know. The portion was fantastic the quality of the cut I got however was a 1 star. Love the service, atmosphere and staff members are welcoming. We love having this in Hamilton.
After a night of bar hopping Lorie and Noor landed at Le Tambour. The lovely host greeted them and sat them in Madelines section. Amazing service was provided by Maddie, family sitting next to them was also friendly -- overall great vibe great ambiance to our candle lit dinner. Food was beautiful, we ordered steak frites and the lovely chef Alex dropped off his duck liver beignets on the house! Very kind gesture. Maddy made sure we had the best wine paired with our dish with her extensive wine knowledge. Her friendly spirit and upbeat nature made our night! With only peace and love, Noor and Lorie <3
Amazing! What a place
It was good but we found the food and wine menu somewhat limited.
Love this spot so much. The food and the wine list is the best in any restaurant in Hamilton. Great lighting, music and super staff. The wines are consistently delicious and intriguing. Great hub for a casual drink or celebratory dinner.
Came for a Saturday brunch with my parents and their friends and we all really enjoyed our meals and had a great time. The escargot was a highlight, was almost licking the dish it was so tasty. Very large meaty shrimp in the shrimp cocktail, and rostis were unlike anywhere else Ive had them. Staff were friendly and happy to let us check out the open fire grill at the back. Our server was attentive, making sure my tea and others coffees were topped up. This spot is high quality food served in a welcoming unpretentious way. Really liked the mural on the wall and the way the space pays tribute to its past. Would like to come again for dinner sometime.
Really nice! Food was great and server was nice. Love the design as well. Only negative is the chairs in the centre of the restaurant are fold out/picnic style? and uncomfortable but still enjoyed the night
Delicious steak cooked perfectly. Can t wait to go back!
Enjoyed an incredible meal great atmosphere at a relatively decent price. Definitely going back.
