The Pros: The beef barbacoa burrito was amazing!! Our server Nene was also so wonderful and checked up with us regularly. The mango margarita cocktail was the size of my head and delicious! The Con: The chicken tamale was so disappointing. Very very dry and it had no flavor. It was so dry that the meat/flour mixture inside cracked and fell apart when eating it.

The restaurant decoration is amazing, I ve noticed they now open on mondays so it s perfect for a good time with family and friends. Mesa is our favourite place to eat as a family. The food is amazing, the best Mexican restaurant we ve ever been to. The quesadillas, nachos and chimichangas are our go to. We come here all the time and the decor and atmosphere is always great. Staff are super helpful and friendly. The restaurant is very family friendly too with good quality high chairs and a changing table in the bathroom which is super helpful for young babies. One of the best restaurants in Hamilton for sure!

Hands down my fave Mexican food in the GHTA. Moved to TO a few years ago and havent been able to find anything that even remotely compares. My partner didnt believe me when I said Mesa is the best, but we finally got back down to the city to try it, and he happily admitted I was correct in saying its the best!

We love Mesa! It s always a fabulous experience when we dine in. This time we had the chimichangas and it s such a plentiful portion and on top of that includes guacamole and beans. I love the atmosphere and the service is always efficient and very friendly. Definitely will be back again soon!

By far the best Mexican food in Hamilton, my personal favourite is the gringa with Al Pastor chicken. Not only that but the owner and staff are all fantastic, you can t go wrong with Mesa.

I must say Mesa keeps getting better and better try their new banana leaf tamales with Mole so delicious brought a few friends that can only eat Halal and they were thankful that I introduced Mesa as a part of their restaurant experience specially because Mesa offers Halal meats. We are already planning to come back for my friends wife birthday thank you Mesa. Once again we went home happy with our tummy full.

I have to say I had High hopes for Mesa and unfortunately that had me crashing down to the ground hard and fast. Let s talk about Mexican in Hamilton. Everyone LOVES places that sell tequila but is anyone actually tasting the food? I had ordered the grilled panela with my friend. The FIRST thing I noticed was the chips were SO SO stale and literally gross. I ended up eating my cheese and beef with my fork. The dip or whatever you would call it was delicious and it had a hint of saltines from the cheese that was lovely. Unfortunately, that was the only good thing on our table. We both ordered tacos, she ordered the El Pastore and I got the beef Barbacoa. The meat itself was OK. The issue I had was that this is the first time I m going into this restaurant. No one person ever suggested when we ordered oh, did you want to add pico de gallo to that? Or did you want any of these toppings and pointed out on the menu Any type of have you been here before or anything like that would ve been more helpful than absolutely no direction or questions. Anywhere I ve received tacos from I ve never had to ask for them to put pico de gallo on it. It just comes with it so getting our tacos with just meat in it was a little disappointing. Not to mention the fact my friend asked what do you think I should get, A burrito or tacos? She said I personally like tacos and that was it. No further instructions. So when our plates came with the most Un-garnished tacos I ve ever seen in my life. We were kind of surprised. The other thing that was infuriating was the fact that you try to make eye contact with the servers and nobody comes over to you. So by the time we actually decided to eat and not wait for them the server was clearing my plate with the full salad and rice on it; still I was shocked he barely asked while grabbing the plate but I honestly didn t care because I am NOT done with this review. The salad on my plate with shredded iceberg, lettuce. On top of the 2 tablespoons of iceberg lettuce was a tablespoon of what look like diced tomato. I went in with my whole fork and I bit into this lettuce; it had that horrible taste and smell you would get when you Buy a bag of lettuce from the grocery store that s pre-washed .And it sits too long in your fridge and starts to go bad. It had that funky you should ve thrown this salad out smell let s not discuss how there was absolutely not a drip of dressing on that salad. Before the restaurant tries to tell me that that lettuce was meant for my tacos, I d like to point out that on the menu it says it s a side salad. That was not side salad; that was rotten and not dressed. Needless to say, I was not a fan of the rice but I m normally not a fan of others rice to begin with. Basically flavourless kind of like a minute rice but it had a colour to it, and I took one bite and didn t touch it again. I m so disappointed. I m not just disappointed in Mesa, I m disappointed in a lot of Mexican places around here that really just don t have the quality. To name a few Mesa, the mule and the Los Mayas are just really over hyped and I think it s more the fancy drinks than anything. Mesa you were a great thought but I m never cheating on Maria s Tortas Jalisco again. She s the #1 Mexican place in Hamilton. Fresh EVERY TIME. Never a stale chip in the house! Sorry folks but this was far below my expectations and it s sad because I live around the corner and this would have been perfect if the quality of the food matched the hype of the people.

Everything at MESA has always been perfection eating here feels like ur on dr^gs bcuz that s how good it is. The margaritas are made with real fruits and the raspberry one and mango and tamarind are my favourites depending on what food ur getting. I get the chimichangas and they re heavenly 100% recommend this place

We got reservations and still had to wait in line for about 15 min to be seated. Busy place , food was Okey, they forgot my drink, no biggie, just had to remind them again. Cactus salad was just coleslaw with canned Cactus peaces on top and some protein. Pulled beef was very super salty.

My review used to be a 5-star, I used to tell everyone how great Mesa is and would recommend it to everyone. Before Mesa I d recommend Mex-I-Can, their earlier restaurant. Recently it s gone super downhill. Not sure if it s new staff, or they re out of sorts after being takeout only for so long Last few days I ve TRIED to place an order for pickup but they just tell you to wait a second and then put the phone down, clearly on purpose (called a few times and they did this each time, waited 10 minutes twice) they don t mute it either so you can hear the guy and the girl at the counter just making small talk. Didn t sound like they were busy doing anything, just being lazy and not doing their job. I chose to go somewhere else. Owners FYI your front staff need some training or replacing.

Easily one of my favourite restaurants in Hamilton. The staff is friendly, the food is amazing and comes out fairly quick. I eat here at least once bi-weekly. This place will not disappoint !!

Although I rated it four stars I would like to take half a star off for service. Service was good overall however I didnt appreciate that I felt very rushed. They brought my our dinner is when we were still eating our appetizer. The server should have come by and had a look at our table to see if we were done before bringing dinner. Other than that really enjoyed it there good food, good atmosphere

First time here on Saturday and won t be the last. Food was very good. Lots of flavour.

Everything was top notch. The restaurants drive towards customer service and their commitment to quality showed in their dishes. Everything was beautiful. Was super impressed with everything and will definitely visit again.

The nachos was far too deepfried for my taste. Same with the taco - very grrasy and oily. Side salad was mediocre, similar to macdonalds.

The food was wonderful, it was delicious and there were lots of options on the menu. My only criticism is that for the taco plate I would rather have had three tacos instead of two and no rice/beans/salad on the side. Will definitely go back and just a note: theres a whole other dining room that you cant see from windows/street so even if it looks full theres likely still open tables you cant see.

We love this place but its slipping the last few months. We love a few of their main dishes like the burrito, the gringa and a couple of others. But this time we thought to try the nachos and salsa for the first time. Expecting simple fresh crispy nachos and some cool salsa with an abundance of tomatoes, onions etc... What we got was stale tortia chips and a salsa that wasnt cold and fresh with onions tomatoes etc but rather a warm tomato sauce with sporadic tomatoes and onion floating around in the cup ... Couldnt even scoop up any tomatoes or onions and best we can do was get a wet dipped chip in some sort of tomato sauce used for the burrito. Unbelievable.. total waste. Something is going south there in the past few months and it kills me to write this negative review because some of their other main dishes are excellent and great value and flavor. Get back to your A game, Mesa.

What a place to get halal Mexican authentic food.

Being Canadian I never knew what Authentic Mexican cuisine was until my husband cooked for me and took me to some amazing authentic Mexican restaurants. Mesa, unfortunately was not one of them. I loved the atmosphere but we were all disappointed with the food :( will not be back.

Too loud and the server doesn t tell you that the gratuity is included. Shameful

The food is out of this world and the staff are so much fun to interact with. I had to adjust my belt and (I wish I remembered her name) and a server asked how s the food? She seen me adjusting and she (and myself broke out in laughter) then I spilled water on myself. Luckily she (again) said I wont tell a soul. This place is awesome.

Tasty Mexican food, with many options and they can customize it for you if you have any food restrictions. You would be surprised how big this restaurant is as it has a room at the back too. Decorations will make you feel like you are in Los Cabos. Our server was great and managed to make our large group happy. Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options plus they can customize it for you. Dietary restrictions: They will customize food for you to make sure it fits your dietary restrictions.

Lunchtime and I had an enchilada, it came with refried beans and rice. The enchiladas were very good. Parking: Its very hard to get parking on James St. This is the biggest drawback for dinning here.

Good mexican restaurant

After hiking the nearby waterfront trail my companion and I stopped in at Mesa for a late lunch. We were seated promptly and the restaurant started to fill up a little more after we arrived. The ambiance and decor is pleasing and congruent with a Mexican theme. We both ordered the chimichangas, one with chorizo and the other with barbacoa, spicy. The food arrived and it was fresh and delicious. The hot sauce atop the chimichangas was spicy and had great depth of flavour. The barbacoa and chorizo tasted authentic and together with the rice, which was very well cooked and seasoned, was an extremely good combination and tasted delicious. The prices were very reasonable and we found it to be great value. The cheese inside the tortilla bound everything together very well without an overpowering cheesy taste which allowed the flavours of each item inside the tortilla to be appreciated. The beans were very tasty but the guacamole was lemony and lacked depth of flavour. Both sides were served with minimal pita chips which necessitated a need to order another side of pita chips for $4.50. Additionally, a serrated edged knife would have been better at cutting the tortilla. The service was a little inattentive and twice I needed to get up to request additional items. Overall a nice experience and might be back to try another dish.

Very cool spot for amazing Mexican food. Get the large burrito and you will not be disappointed. Make sure to start the menu with a drink as well. Lots of great beverages to go along with the food ... Tequila is always a great way to start a meal.

Ive been to Mesa a few times, and each time, the food has been delicious. Its fresh and authentic, with lots of flavour. I love the tacos, chicken, rice, and beans. Its all good!

If you have allergies please reconfirm they actually listened when you get your food. I was given a gluten burrito when I ordered gluten free. Unfortunately I had already taken a few bites before my sons arrived and it didn t look the same. They replaced my dinner which I took home in a box because I was so sick already. The waitress didn t care and although we were told the owner would come over - they never did. Three days sick in bed and I didn t even receive an apology. Dietary restrictions: Be careful with dietary restrictions- they say they offer items but are obviously not careful and when they make an error they don t even offer an apology

The server was talking to us in English (Which I don t have problems with) but what really annoyed us was that we asked her if she spoke Spanish and she confirmed but she said she was speaking in English so we can learn. (???) I wanted to eat Mexican food, not get educated.

I ordered a large red burrito with a corn tortilla with medium heat sauce. Came to the table very quickly and hot! Tasty and the portion was huge! Great spot for lunch, Ill definitely eat here again!

It was recommended and now I am passing it on publicly. This is a MUST go if you think you know anything about Mexican cuisine. I was missing authentic and I was not disappointed. All the staff were friendly and courteous. They went above and beyond to help my youngest enjoy the food.

dont understand the hype about this place. it is unnecessarily expensive and the staff was quite rude, the restaurant looks pretty unclean and shabby, the toilet had a permanent stink. the food was extremely bad. the menu offered pupusas - cheese, cheese and chicken but when we asked the server he said no it is either chicken or cheese, but when we showed him the menu said something else, he simply declined. when giving him our food choices, I had no idea if he was listening to me or not, he looked somewhere else while taking our order. we got guacamole in starters which costed almost $17 and they got us a big plate of nachos with a tiny portion of guac. the pupusas were good (ergo the 1 star), and the enchiladas came after we reminded him (20 min later). it was cold, full of just lettuce. Amigos in Hesss village is so much better in terms of food, cleanliness and server attitude.

Large burrito with green tomatillo sauce was MASSIVE! Nicely seasoned and generous toppings. A steal for <$20. They ve got an extensive menu worth exploring. Also happy they had a vegetarian burrito as an option.

Had to wait a bit to get served as they were busy but food came out almost immediately and drinks were pretty good.

I ve been going to this place for over 8 years and it s not like it used to be. They used to bring you complimentary nachos with guacamole and salsa. They didn t. We asked for some salsa and they brought nachos with some warm runny sauce. Not sure what it was. It seemed like the sauce they put on your dinner plate. We asked the waitress but didn t really understand what she explained it was. That was $10 We had margaritas and were pretty much juice with ice. I don t think they even put tequila in, and for sure we didn t ask for virgin drinks. They cost us about $10 each. The food was bland we asked for mild spice. It had no flavour. The waitress didn t come to check on us we had to flag down different waiters to get some help. We will not return, I was very disappointed in the food.

It was OK...First time there and I dont need to go back

Had a lovely time there tonight on a family outing. We had tamales, enchiladas, nachos, and chimichanga. All were wonderful. Weve been missing the taste of authentic Mexican and Mesa did not disappoint us. The hot sauce is to die for.

Mexican restaurant lacking some basic flavours, some items on the menu are good, some are totally not mexican, e.g., pupusas, and the enchiladas are absolutely not in the way they are served in Mexico, also strange that Pastor is made with chicken, the original one is with pork another thing, no limes! I order a lime and got a quarter of a lime, anyaway, good place if you don t know the authentic mexican food

Prepare to be hungry!!! Prices are good and portions are perfect for when you are hungry. The salsa is awesome and hot is Infact hot!!! We tried a bunch of things and everything was awesome!!! Place has a great vibe and atmosphere and staff are nice. This place wins you in the food and steak slaps harder than the chicken in my opinion. Burrito over chimichanga in my opinion and chorizo is next on my list. Refried beans are life!!! And we will be back!!!

This was probably the best mexican food I ve had outside of Mexico. Incredible ingredients and very authentic. Despite the place being absurdly packed with customers on a Saturday night (I ll consider that a good thing), we walked in and only waited about 10 minutes for a table and our food was also served timely. The staff were incredible and the entire restaurant was run like a well oiled machine.

We were a group of 4 and everyone loved their meals! The burritos were amazing and very authentic. Would definitely recommend this place for the food, atmosphere and great service! Also, the sangria was awesome Vegetarian options: Good options Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating.

Wonderful Gem on James Street!!

Delicious and generous meal portions. Very artfully displayed on the plate. I would definitely recommed this restaurant. The forks were not sharp enough to cut through the bottom of the Quesadillas. It was a real fight to slice it The ladies washroom was very dimly lit and a few nails were sticking out of the wall over the sink where a mirror used to be. They did supply some feminine hygiene products which was very thoughtful. Wheelchair accessibility: The washrooms are down a steep set of stairs. I dont think there is an elevator.

ive been once this is a 5 star restaurant from the atmosphere to the service the food and drinks it is priced appropriately for the quality and portion of food my server was amazing and the restaurant setup is everything very well done can t wait to go back <3 best adult drink ive been served in a longgg time!

If you want to experience real Mexican food you can get just that at Mesa Restaurant in Hamilton. We went there last evening and was amazed at the food and the decor, I must say the service was definitely a five star. The price did not break the bank and the portions were generous, oh yes!!! Never ever have we been disappointed coming to Mesa. The food is always fresh and incredible, The margaritas are so tasty and the staff are always friendly and helpful and the prices are more then fair. You cant go wrong, 10/10 recommend. Vegetarian options: There are excellent vegan and vegetarian options!

Pretty good! The food portions are large and fair. There is a vegetarian option for almost all the items. Got the green burrito which was a little messy but very tasty. Tried the horchata with malibu and it was a delicious addition to the meal. I have come a few times during busy dinner hour and service can be a little slow but not bad at all! We always come here whenever we want mexican food

Mesas service was very good, the atmosphere is very nice and the food was not fantastic but pretty good. Being used to real Tex-Mex I thought it did lack a bit of flavour. The Churros were however excellent. Would I go back, yes I would.
