Berkeley North in Hamilton

Food was pretty ok. Tight seating and limited staff, doing their best for how jammed they are. We were underwhelmed by the chef tasting menu. Lacking some flavours and interest in the dumplings cheese on bread steak frites or the gnocchi dish. We enjoyed the crunchy frites.

We visited the restaurant in December 2024 after hearing some great things from friends and family (and of course, seeing it on the Bib Gourmand list). In my opinion, this restaurant is way overhyped and there are much better places to dine in Hamilton. Our fried chicken main was scorched and dry, the eggplant starter was basically a plate of over-fried dough balls, the steak was incredibly tough, and worst of all were the gnocchi which were barely edible. I m not sure if it was just an off night or something more systemic, but I d steer clear nonetheless.

Suzi and her team went above and beyond to organize an amazing birthday dinner for my guests and I. I was so appreciative that they tailored an exceptional vegan menu, but they also created a special menu for one of my guests recovering from surgery. We are so lucky to have such a great restaurant in the city. Thanks again Suzi!

Tldr; I think there are far better restaurants in Hamilton for this price point. The food is all right. There is nothing wrong with it, but it is nothing special, either. The atmosphere is very mid. It s so busy that it feels like you are sitting at a social table rather than an intimate date.. Also, don t expect anything special if you reserve a table months in advance or if you tell them what occasion you are going there for. Dress code was not enforced. Our server was very nice but horribly overworked. Same with the bartender. We received our drinks after we were done with the starters. I think that speaks on the management and not on the wait staff.

Had a lunch today and I really liked the build a bowl option! Food was really delicious and my server was really nice. Would definitely consider coming here again

If you are a Michelin Restaurant lover you should not visit this restaurant at all, I believe the previous owner already Sold this restaurant to someone else who only know used lots of Salt or butter. I ordered an appetizer cheese with sourdough It tastes awful so salty, I couldn t even eat it. The Fried chicken so dark look like the chicken fried over cooked, taste so salty . Everything based on the curry. Seems like Indian restaurant. Unfortunately I have to be so honest about my review because no one else will tell the truth until I went to try it tonight. ( I saw the recommendation front Michelin recommendation) Please, to be honest with your review in the future, Either way, other people will not make big mistake. Driving from other city going to Hamilton, hoping the restaurant is making fantastic food. the truth the food is a nightmare.!

Not entirely impressed with the experience I had at Berkeley. I attended for lunch. Our table asked the server a few questions regarding the menu, all of which she wasn t informed enough to answer. We had to ask her for sharing plates meanwhile there was only one other table to tend too. The food was underwhelming. The cheese toast had no flavour whatsoever. The french fries were oily and not soft in the middle because of how overly fried they were. One of the ladies at our table ordered the turkey club which looked so undercooked she didn t eat any of it.

Food was good, ambience was even better. Overall, a good experience. Will visit again!

Everything I could have asked for! I m usually let down when I search for gluten-free vegan options in restaurants because either they don t have the option or they don t taste good. It was a refreshing experience to visit a place with a menu that offered gluten-free vegan options, and they actually tasted good! The food was delicious, and the in-house cocktails were a delightful surprise. Everything was so well-prepared that it s no wonder they have a Michellin. Thank you for having me; I would love to return soon.

We were a large group and ordered most of the items on the menu. Several were excellent, most were very good, but there were a few misses too

So this is based largely on value - but it isnt very good. Not sure if the Michelin guide told them when they were coming and they hired new staff for that meal exclusively, but the dinner we had tonight wasnt even top 50 in this city. TL;DR: Bad food + value. For the $200, youre better to go to Le Tambour or The Ship / Bernies twice - or just go to J.Waldron and cook yourself a nice steak. Food: We ordered the October Taste of BN menu - except, despite it being Oct.22, it was still the September menu. Even though both are comprised of just their regular a la carte menu, so it isnt like they wouldnt have had it. Also not early in the month so the menus couldnt still be at the printers, right? BN Salad was good, but overdressed - making it a bit soggy by the last bite. Fresh cheese & sour dough was probably the best dish of the night - pretty balanced - good texture. The fried chicken dish is a mess - was both tough and fried very dark - either they fry it in batches early in the day and then fry it again to warm it up, or more likely their fryer oil hadnt been changed after the weekend. Also came in a butter chicken style sauce, and not Bulldog sauce + black garlic mayo or any slaw as on the menu. Felt like it was supposed to be sort of Korean fried chicken style, but came off as a weird butter chicken fusion thing - avoid. As a sharing coursed menu, serving the steak+frites with the chicken (which again, covered in sauce) made it impossible to eat the steak without the sauce from the chicken getting on it. It was also very under seasoned, especially considering how thin of a cut the striploin was. Also not trimmed well, and had a lot of unrendered fat and tissue. Fries were good, but tasted like the bought-in breaded fries from most pubs - and didnt seem herbed at all. Steak was also cut way before resting, leading to most of the juice soaking the fries on the bottom - avoid. Cheesecake was good, but served quite cold - and with the basque style it should be tempered to room temperature - fatty desserts tend to taste dry when theyre cold - and that was the case here. Service: Cold, but attentive - kind of like a bad first-date kind of vibe. Refilled water 10 times, cleared plates 20 minutes after the last bite - for each course - was 20 minutes between dessert being cleared and anyone coming back - literally drank my water to catch them during a refill to ask for the cheque. Feels like half the staff started yesterday. Atmosphere: The room is cute - music was a good volume - and tables werent too close together, though might be a bit small if you werent sharing mains / apps.

They gave us the worst table in house and we were the only ones there. Food was definitely not michelin star worthy.

I had the pleasure of dining here last night for the first time and I look forward to returning! The staff were friendly and courteous and the quality of food was outstanding! If you have not yet dined here do yourself a favour and make a reservation.

My partner and I went out to celebrate our new marriage, and the owner went above and beyond to make our night special. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was very romantic, and the food was delicious. We had a wonderful time! Would highly recommend, we will definitely be returning. Thank you so much. Im not going to bury the lead: two of the three of us who went to dinner here found a hair in each of our main dishes. For appetizers, we ordered the sourdough and fresh cheese, the teriyaki eggplant and the channa rolls. The eggplant was great and the bread and cheese was good as were the channa rolls, though the latter could have been filled with more channa so that the proportion to the dough was more balanced. For mains, two of us ordered the Manatoulin trout. The dishes came out looking completely different. One, fortunately the brithday girls, was well plated and looked lovely. Mine was messy with a puddle of liquid - I think it was a mix of butter and broth- with nothing to absorb it. I was underwhelmed anyway by the lack of flavour of the fish, but didnt get far into the dish before I found a hair. The third person ordered the fried chicken. Again, the protein was lacking in flavor, but the sauce and the coating was good. He also found a hair about half way through the dish. I know: super gross!! But Im trying to be fair here. Of course, our food was comped and they gave us a complimentary Basque cheesecake, which would have been excellent had the generic blueberry compote not distracted from the flavour. The birthday girl was very happy with her cocktails (old fashioneds). I was drinking draught beer and got what I expected. The third person ordered a repeat of the first cocktail he ordered - the bartenders surprise - and was surprised to get something completely different . The service was slow, overwhelmed and apologetic. We were completely neglected between courses, even though wed ordered a second round of drinks. I tipped the server well, anyway, because she was mortified by our experience, and since we were only paying for our drinks, she would have been screwed had I tipped her percentage I thought she deserved. Im glad the brithday girl had a good experience with both her drinks and food. But, Im not going to lie, Im low-key disgusted by the place overall (I mean, hair in not one, but two dishes). And Im really frustrated by the experience. I had been looking forward to dining at the restaurant, and had gone from Toronto specifically to celebrate the birthday of a loved one there. I very much enjoy exploring the restaurants on the Bib Gourmand list every year, and to say that this one was under par would be an understatement.

Came out to celebrate my birthday with a friend last night and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was above par; we had the trout and steak which were both delicious. Our server, Nicole was attentive and well-versed, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring we always had what we needed. Despite the restaurant being very busy, we had an excellent seat in the booth which was very comfy and we really appreciated the atmosphere. We will be recommending this adorable spot and dining again in the near future!

Really enjoyed the food here! The service was above and beyond. We were there with our toddler and the staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. Would definitely be coming back again. Thank you for a great dining experience.

Beautiful space, impeccable food, excellent service. Standout items were the eggplant, dumplings, and poke bowl. Flavour bombs all around. Chef James is definitely deserving of all the accolades he is receiving! Vegetarian options: The veggies are the star of the show in many of the dishes!

After reading the reviews, I had high expectations that were never realized. This is more like a bistro in terms of style and menu, than a restaurant. It is one big room that gets loud with a few patrons. As for food, I ordered the steak frites that should be a mainstay for a place like this. The frites were not fresh cut and probably had been sitting around. Likewise with the onions and mushrooms. The steak was more like a cutlet, and was medium-- I ordered it rare. Anid it was a bit tough. Finally, to add insult to injury, when I asked for HP Sauce, the chef informed me that the steak was properly seasoned and that I would not need any. All said with a touch of arrogance. I can spend my 49 dollars, plus tax, plus tip somewhere else for a steak. The waitress was new, by her admission, and not properly trained. In short, I will not be back.

I m not sure what happened to Berkeley North? Our first visit was so awesome that we recommended this place to so many of our friends and family. We really looked forward to our next visit to celebrate our son s birthday. Unfortunately we couldn t say the same with our second visit. We had ordered quite a few dishes to share among five people, as previously, but this time we were shocked at how small the dishes were, especially given the price. The portions did not reflect the shareable intentions of the restaurant s theme. One of the dishes we ordered was the steak and frites at $50 a plate. A very tiny steak arrived at the table that we divided up which allotted to a teeny slice on each person s plate (some people got two slices) and maybe six or seven shoestring fries each. It was embarrassing. We weren t going to order another $50 plate to get another slice! It was the same situation with the other dishes. When I looked over at my husband, he was looking angrier and angrier with each dish arrival. The portions definitely did not reflect the price of the dishes, and certainly wasn t enough to share. We left hungry after paying a hefty bill. This was suppose to be a birthday celebration but instead we felt taken advantage of. What a disappointment in comparison to the first visit we had! Sadly, it was enough of a disappointment that we won t return.

My wife surprised me with a reservation here for my bday dinner . They offer a seasonal vegan tasting menu . We ordered that with a glass of wine and a cocktail. Our first two dishes came out and they were delicious. Then everything stopped coming out . It was about 40 mins since we had our last dishes .. drinks were done .. side note .. we had sparkling water . And the servers kept pouring reg water into our cup happened twice . Finally the server came over and said the main dish which was gnocchi was sold out . We still never got the side dish Before the main one .. and now the main dish was gone . And they don t offer any other main vegan dish . Besides the ones we had already which were sides . So we ended up leaving without evening having a full dinner or experience. The restaurant opens at 5 it was 645 when we placed our order . Not sure how they don t have enough food prepared. We weren t the only table to leave . For a Michelin star restaurant it sure seemed pretty sloppy. The server was telling us all the sad stories as to why this was happening. We just shouldn t know it really ruined the flow . The food we had did taste good, but I m not sure if it was good enough to make me wanna go back it wasn t a very professional restaurant for a Michelin star. The food is amazing and you can really tell all the staff take pride in everything they put out. The owners are the sweetest humans Ive met not to mention the food is top tier. The service is amazing plenty of attentive servers overall great place to eat at!

The food was fantastic I had the vegan gnoci and the bn salad it was so good I went back for seconds of the vegan gnoci also the atmosphere was amazing I could tell all the servers were putting in there best efforts also it was my wifes birthday and they went out there way to make her feel special the drinks were also so elegant definitely will be back many times its my new date night spot

Wow just wow this place did outstanding food tonight I had 4 people we got sour dough and cheese is was delicious and we also got the teriki chicken but even the drinks were amazing we got many cocktails because they where so flavourful I Will 100 % recommend this place to everyone for any Avent or lunch and its a great spot for dates too! Will be back!!!

I never write reviews but this place was worth it!! Well more like my server was worth it when I first walked in they were looking for space because they were so busy but they found space for me at the bar there was a young lady bartending tonight I didnt catch her name but did notice she had a small hand! She helped us choose our drinks and what we wanted to eat because we couldnt decide wnd it seemed like she was so busy helping everyone and making the different drinks but she still managed to check in on us and the food she recommended was amazing that fried chicken and the steak was amazing I even got it medium rare like she suggested and she was right so flavourful. I will definitely be coming back because of the food being so good but mostly because of the hospitality she showed me and my husband

Saturday night dinner. Reason for reservation: Michelin star resto and anniversary celebration. Ordered: butterfly effect cocktail (meh), mushrooms dumplings (ok), sourdough and cheese (very good) and eggplant (no). Also: gnocchi (ok) and steak frites (also ok). Service: friendly server, incredibly disorganized kitchen, very long waits between orders being taken and food being served. Overall, food was ok but not sure why Michelin star rated.

The food was fantastic (we had the teriyaki eggplant and fried chicken), the atmosphere was cozy and warm, and our server Nicole was so thorough and friendly - absolutely excellent service. The service at Berkeley North is excellent. Great location on King William Street in the downtown core. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant. However, the food was mediocre. Some menu items were OK, but a couple of the items we ordered we did not enjoy at all. The flavours did not go well together, in our opinion. They were nice enough to take the items we didnt like off of our bill without us asking.

Not great service and very pricey for what was served, we waited a very long time and decided to eat elsewhere thankfully.

Berkeley is one of Hamiltons best restaurants with a great atmosphere, excellent food and interesting cocktails. Ive been there many times now and theyve never disappointed. The one thing I would say, is that having been going to Berkeley for a number of years now, I would love them to change up their menu a bit more frequently. Some of their dishes have been on the menu for as long as I can remember, and given the menu is quite small to begin with, if youre a repeat customer it can get a little boring at times. Freshening up the menu once in a while would go a long way

Great spot with great food. Be wary, the tasting menu is merely menu items packaged as theyve chosen. 2 apps and 2 mains with dessert. Pick your own and it will cost the same.

My first restaurant in Hamilton since I moved here and it did not disappoint. Unique dishes that were delicious. We had a great night celebrating my new city.

I will keep craving their sourdough until my next return! Our server was incredibly friendly and each dish kept surprising us! I havent tasted gniocci quite like this before, beautiful texture (although the sauce for the gniocci could be a little stronger in flavour). The chana rolls are a must, I could drink that ginger-erb dip! The manitoulin trout was also divine, a soft-crispy perfection.

Incredible food, including a vegan option. Lovely quaint atmosphere tucked into the very special and unique downtown Hamilton. Big city with small town energy.

Overall, it was a great experience. I was only disappointed by the duck dumplings. The dough was hard and raw, especially where it folded. Other than that, everything was great. The sour dough bread and cheese was delicious. The gnocchi were good too even though they are not what you execpte when you read truffle gnocchi.

The best restaurant we have been to outside of Toronto. Incredible food and great service, we can t wait to go back!!

Incredible dining experience at Berkeley North! 7 of us were on a girl s college reunion trip from the U.S. Our server was Matthew and he took incredible care of us and even brought us complimentary drinks to end the night! We shared several plates and all of the food was so fresh and delicious! Some favorites were the duck gnocchi and wontons. The cocktails were great and they had a good selection of mocktails too. We spent several hours talking and laughing the night away without ever feeling rushed. In fact, we felt invited to stay and enjoy to our hearts content. 10 out of 10 would recommend for a special occasion, date night, or girls night. Reservations are important. Vegetarian options: Large vegan selection! Dietary restrictions: Large GF and vegan selection with options to get most menu items made with gf substitutes

Wow!!! What an experience. Lana our server was outstanding. She s a natural! We took her suggestions and they were all amazing. The food was fantastic, portion sizes were amazing the the atmosphere is warm and inviting. We will definitely be back. Great job!

Way overpriced. Main course prices for shareable and appetizers? Get real. Nicely decorated at least but Im not here to pay for the decor. Dont even get me started with the cocktails...

We went maybe 1-2 months ago - the set menu for two turned out to actually just be a selection of appetizer, entree and dessert straight from the menu (no adjustment to price or portion). If I had known I wouldn t swapped the entree. They did not even bother to bring the food out onto two separate plates - we had to eat off the same plate. It was unusual and unpleasant. The food was also quite underwhelming - salad was tasty, cheesecake was dry and bitter, and I think the entree was just okay. Cocktail was tasty. Atmosphere was good. Won t be returning.

Great restaurant, smaller so it books up fast. The menu is on the smaller side but the dishes are flavourful and well put together. The duck gnocchi had lots of flavour. The only feedback is that the wine by the glass only came in 5oz, and not the typical offers of 6oz or 9oz so it did not feel like we had great freedom or value on that. No espresso so you can only do french press (this did not appease the Italian ahaha). The almond cake dessert was not overly sweet which is refreshing, you can taste all the components. Id put this on my Id come back list

Just had the most divine dinner at Berkeley North. The service was incredibly friendly and prompt. Andrea was such a lovely server and even ensured that we were able to leave on time to make a show after! Thanks for the wonderful service! The food was INCREDIBLE. Truly, one of the most refreshing and palette-delighting meals I ve ever had. We tried the Sample menu and had a taste of everything - no regrets! I absolutely cannot wait to return and try more of their fabulous menu! Don t miss out - Berkeley North is a GEM.

We ordered the tasting menu for 2 and it was delicious. The plates came at a good pace; not too fast or too slow.

The reason I did not give it a five star was the fact I got servers in a bowl not a plate, off its not so it should be on a plate.

I did my birthday party here! It was a pleasure working with their events manager in making a menu, and having the party in the beautiful atmosphere! I gave it a 4 because the food was amazing, atmosphere was on point, service was good, but despite getting a pre fixed menu for the party, service was very slow. I would think because it s a prefixe it would be prepared without having any orders or questions, but the food did take a while. When it came out it was amazing, but the anticipation was a lot! I would love to go back and just order off the menu and see what happens!

We went for Valentine s Day & have been here before. Super disappointed by our experience, though previously we really liked their food. They called us in advance to advertise their vegan options, they said they could accommodate vegetarians but made no accommodations in actuality. It was prix fix. The appetizer was fine. The main pasta was the worst dish I ve ever eaten at a restaurant, it was gluey and had no flavor. It also took an hour and a half to arrive. The pana cotta had far too much agar and was incredibly sour. 2/4 dishes were basically inedible. They reduced our price but we still paid over $150. Our server was clearly avoiding us and you could hear the kitchen complaining. I don t think we ll be back.

I came in for lunch with my mom last week and the food was amazing as always! We each had a glass of Prosecco and shared a few small plates! (Fresh cheese & sour dough, mushroom dumplings and teriyaki Brussels) was a perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon!

My husband and I did the Valentines prix fixe and our experience was underwhelming. To say the food was wholly bad would be an over-exaggeration - the pork chop main and the chocolate creameaux were amazing. However, the rest of the food was wildly inconsistent and had some unforgivable flaws. The beef tataki, a dish that is supposed to feature seared rare beef was tough and well done. The clam pesto pasta was overcooked and had little flavour. The cod main sat in a viscous white liquid that had zero flavour and the roasted potatoes were undercooked, bitter, and greasy. The panna cotta dessert was rubbery and contained too much gelatin or agar. The server would ask how the food was after every course arrived. On two occasions we told her we werent happy with what we received, and she just said sorry to hear that and walked away. Why pretend to care about how the food when it doesnt actually matter?

Last minute impromptu visit and extremely satisfied! Matthew was a fantastic host and just a genuine person to converse with. The rest of the staff were super friendly and engaging. You must try the Batatas Fritas!!! Food : 5/5

Great service, but food was only OK.

My husband and I came for an early dinner as part of our date night. We had the December Tasting menu which consisted of the Fall Salad, Fresh Cheese on Sourdough, Gnochhi, Chicken Katsu, and Basque Cheesecake for $99.50. The Tasting menu serves two and we were so full by the end of the meal. The entire meal took me to flavor town. The fall salad was an arugula based salad with pistachios, grapefruit, beets, and a beet dressing. Oftentimes, the taste of arugula can be overpowering but all of the other elements allowed you to enjoy the taste of the arugula. The fresh cheese on sourdough was fresh cheese on a big piece of toast. The cheese was velvety and light. The gnocchi was pillowy and went so well with the duck and oyster mushroom. The flavor was light which is not what I would expect from a gnocchi. The chicken katsu was a mouthgasm. The chicken was extremely tender with a crunchy coating. The dish has sliced chilis but do not fear, they are not hot. It goes extremely well with the chicken katsu, parsnips, and the aioli. The basque cheesecake was the perfect ending to our meal. The caramel was amazing salty, creamy, and smooth. The cheesecake was not heavy at all. Overall, it was one of the best meals I ve had. Every ingredient shined on its own but worked so well with each other. The tasting menu was perfectly curated to ensure all flavor profiles and textures were present. I would go back again!

Berkley North has become a regular destination for my husband and Is date nights. The service is always exceptional, and the food is consistent and delicious. We recently attended a special fall menu tasting which was an extra treat to hear how to chef and bartender used seasonal ingredients to inspire the new dishes for the fall menu. This place is perfect for people who want to have a shared experience of creative and delicious food. No meal is complete without mushroom dumplings and fresh cheese!

Berkeley North is the perfect combination of warm and attentive service, delicious interesting food, and fun, welcoming ambiance. We went for a special occasion and they couldn t have done a better job making it the best experience. Can t wait to go back! Kid-friendliness: They are so great with kids! There isn t a specific kids menu but it still worked for us.

Ive been here twice now, and each time the food doesnt disappoint, neither does the service or atmosphere. Its not so fancy that you feel like you stick out in casual wear, but still nice enough to make the experience special. My favorite restaurant in the area, great for sharing plates. Our favourite item on the menu is the mushroom dumplings - we often end up with two orders! Theres always fun cocktails to have that are changed regularly. Chill environment and great staff.

The food here is always so fresh and tasty. Highly recommend the fresh cheese with sourdough, its to die for! The cocktails and selections of beer are great. The vibe and atmosphere is cozy and aesthetic. The staff is always extemely friendly and very accommodating to any allergies. It is simply one of the best restaurants in Hamilton!

Tasting menu is a great deal for a date night, lots of things to try and decent portions. Not 5 stars as I ordered a mule and it tasted like flat cherry cough syrup, not fizzy Ginger beer, also *may* have had egg in it which Ive never seen in a mule.

How have we been sleeping on this place, I don t know we visited for the first time last week and did the January taste menu. When I tell you everything we had was simply amazing doesn t even do it justice. The food/drinks were unreal, tastes amazing and it was plated/presented beautifully. We love the cozy intimate atmosphere this restaurant offers. Lastly the staff is top notch here. We found them very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend and will be coming back!!

A delicious tapas menu with both vegetarian and lamb, chicken options. We tried the Teriyaki Eggplant bites and Potato Curry Chana rolls. Both very tasty. Ended our meal with French pressed coffee, superb service and value. Returning for the summertime patio season soon!

Went in January for the first time and the service was exceptional. Our server was super informative and made excellent recommendations. the Gnocchi is to die for! A smaller more thoughtful and creative menu rather than the page after page of pedestrian offerings that so many restaurants have. Delicious is an understatement. The vibe is immaculate and the food gets more and more delicious each course. We had the tasting menu for a large party of 11 and each time our plates were all brought out together AND hot and fresh as can be. Our waitress was also very sweet and made drink recommendations that were divine. The first thing my fiancee and I said to one another is lets come back next weekend!!

My husband took me to Berkeley North for my birthday, and we tried the tasting menu. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I love the attention to detail, every dish we tried was well balanced. It was probably the best tuna crudo and gnocchi I eat in my life. Coctails were great, I like that they have a quality, local beer on tap. Atmosphere was relaxed and cozy, not stiff like at some fine dine places. I highly recommend this place!

Made a reservation for the same day at 9 pm on Saturday June 3. Arrive 9 pm, the hostess has no record of the reservation. Then she takes my name and number and says shell call in about 20 when a table opens up. Didnt get a call.

I proposed to my partner at Berkeley North, and it was the best decision I could have made. Reserved online with a note, and ventured over in person a few days before to shore things up. I was greeted by Noor, a host whose name I may be spelling incorrectly, who help me set-up/plan my proposal! Noor thought of it all the best place to sit (varies by person), booking off the table beside me, cold storage for the flowers, codewords/special food orders (ours was cheesecake), and helped me plan for the day-of. Super emphasize SUPER solid. Day of, I ran the flowers and a [first date item] to Mitch, a sous chef (I assume) that hooked it up I was rushing during a break from work, and Mitch shored-up all the last minute stuff, and then prepared a FIRE (like, seriously good) meal. We had the Cheese plate, which featured the [first date item], the steak frites, and the fried chicken. Cheese is cheese, but the steak frites and the fried chicken? Highly recommend. The food was so good, and we were so full, that we couldnt even get to dessert... a great problem to have when the codeword to bring out the flowers and pop the question is cheesecake. Enter Andrea, our server and make-it happen connoisseur. Andrea was straight up awesome. Off-menu beverages? Done. Last minute changes to seating arrangements? Easy. New codeword? No problem. No desert, but you still want something special? Need a camera person? Need someone to bring out the flowers...? Andreas got you. Im almost out of characters, but let me reiterate Berkeley North is dope. Great food, good vibes, and excellent people (I mentioned some names, but honestly every staff members was truly kind and supportive). I had problems and they found solutions. I had an empty stomach and I left full. We arrived as partners, and left as fiancés. Eat there. Drink there. Get engaged there. And give them your money.

My partner and I had a wonderful time at Berkeley North celebrating her birthday. We loved our little booth seat in the corner. The atmosphere was something in between of cozy and intimate. We did our own tasting menu and ordered variety of dishes including Fresh cheese & Sourdough, mushroom dumplings, avocado salad, Cornish hen (it was a brand new item on the menu, recommended by our server and it was our favourite), and steak Frites. Food was good, but the service was EXCELLENT. Nour, our server made our day! She was so friendly, witty and attentive. I mentioned to her that it was my partner s birthday and she didn t forget to put a candle on our dessert, following by a couple cocktails for us on the house. Overall, a very pleasant evening celebrating a special occasion!

It was a bad decision to stop for us unfortunately. Atmosphere 2 because we didnt get to see inside but we liked the idea of the patio seating until 2 crack addicts decided to be the entertainment attacking the invisible man on the sidewalk right by our table. We got served water when we sat but we sat for 23min with absolutely no other service, so we walked across the street to steak house!

my friends and i love this place. raving fans since 2018. the mushroom dumplings, cheese toast, + teriyaki eggplant are *chefs kiss* the staff are great at making conversation and keeping plates cleared and water topped up. Wheelchair accessibility: due to its popularity, it can get pretty busy, loud, and cramped in some seating areas so if you have accessibility needs it might be worthwhile to call ahead.

We were really underwhelmed with the food - did the tasting menu to get a bit of everything and there weren t a lot of high notes. For example one round was an avocado salad with jalapeños and cucumber, but it was extremely spicy, and I am someone who enjoys heat but I had to pick the jalapeños out and had extreme heat in my mouth for the rest of the course. The atmosphere was really good however, so might give it another shot. Maybe just an off night as this place has rave reviews.

Wow! We dined here yesterday evening and wow is the best description. From the second we walked in - the atmosphere was great. Welcoming. The staff was wonderful. Very attentive. Very much on point. And the food every single bite was delicious. Though a smaller menu, every item was so versatile, the flavours were perfect. We had beautifully crafted mocktails. Had a great experience at Berkeley North for a birthday dinner. Food was excellent, great selection of interesting apps and mains that left everyone satisfied and accommodated. Emily was a great server - friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Service was prompt and perfectly timed between courses. Eamonn s non-alcoholic cocktails were amazing - delicious and creative. Everyone was left impressed by the high quality of service and the knowledge carried by staff about each dish and drink.

Really awesome little restaurant - service was fantastic, good was delicious! Tons of veggie and vegan options. We will be back for sure!

We had our staff Christmas party at BN and the evening was a huge success. The food and atmosphere were wonderful and the service was exceptional! Matthew and his team were attentive and friendly and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy. Having spent the majority of my life in this industry, their level of professional standard did not fall short on me. Thanks BN - it was a night to remember.

Amazing experience at this restaurant with the most delicious food! Food - the fried eggplant and coconut shrimp were amazing! Also the chana rolls and fried chicken were delicious. Atmosphere - the decor was beautiful, so many lovely plants and perfect lighting. Not too loud, cozy booths and tables not too close together. Service - exceptional! Our server Alex was very attentive to our needs and took the time to explain the menu very well. The timing of the food coming out was perfect. The little considerations were hugely appreciated - bringing a canister of hot water for our mom, quickly bringing over napkins when we spilled a drink (sorry!) and constantly filling our water/drinks. We didn t have to ask for anything - the servers were always steps ahead! We had several staff tend to our table which shows the incredible team work of the staff at this restaurant. Cannot wait to return and try more dishes!

Great food and atmosphere

Food was very average I ordered the hot chicken and there wasnt anything hot about it. Our server was nice but not very friendly though the host was cool and seated us right away. I would have rated 3 stars but there wasnt anything that particularly upset me about my experience just that the food was quite bland which I hope they can do something about. Patio seating is quite good here if you fancy sitting outside.

This is a tapas style restaurant, with small but filling portion. We had the Coconut Shrimp, Lamp Spring roll, Hamilton Hot Chicken, Mushroom Cheese Gnocchi, Meatballs and sourdough bread with ricotta spread. all so delicious. We had the tasting menu for two (83$) and it was fantastic. Our choices: lamb spring rolls, mushroom dumplings in chili sauce, coconut shrimp, meatballs, gnocchi, and a chocolate tarte. Best gnocchi Ive ever had: so creamy smooth. Meatballs were also terrific, with fresh basil highlights making a big difference. Service was attentive but not crowding (thats good). Food arrived in quick succession, we were never left waiting. Two local beers on draft. The Moscow mule was yummy. We didnt sample the wines. Highly recommended.

We were on our way back to Toronto & decided to check out Hamilton, Berkeley North came up as one of the highest rated restaurants so we decided to check it out. They do stay true to their Pacific Coast cuisine promise. We tried the Ceviche, Shrimp salad, Hamilton Hot Chicken, Flatiron steak and the fries. The style is to share, almost like tapas, but the portions are much larger. We were very happy with the ceviche, it was great. I enjoyed the shrimp salad, had a good balance of zest and freshness. The hot chicken were 4 wings that were presented on slaw and tasted great. The flatiron steak has fresh chilis on them with a sweet glaze. In general we find the food to be very good and have no complaints. The service was tragically slow, probably due to staff shortages. Our server did try her best and we appreciate her efforts, but it looks like it was just too busy for the team to keep up. I m sure the service will be stellar once this whole staffing debacle settles down. Oh, and yes, we enjoyed the vibe and ambiance, it was lovely. I d definitely recommend it if you have the time to relax & enjoy.

Delicious food, nice service and cozy vibe! The price is a tiny bit on the higher end but the quality of food was worth it! Do keep in mind their portion is not big so for me it took two dishes + one side (fires) to fill me up! If I ever come back to Hamilton again I d definitely wanna go back and try other things on their menu!

My wife took me over the weekend and it was awesome. Its a true gem of a restaurant and the food / ambiance was amazing. Its the kind of place you can be casual with your friends or bring your partner for a special event! We later learned that the person who took our order and guided us through the menu (Mat) was the owner. He was so helpful, friendly and genuine. We had the tasting menu and everything tasted so fresh and delicious. Were coming back Mat and this time were getting your eggplant teriyaki recipe :) Vegetarian options: Every course had a delicious veg option

The service was very good and the food was delicious. The gnocchi was to die for...they were like fluffy pillows from heaven...melt in your mouth. I honestly believe it is the best gnocchi I have ever had. Their rosemary french fries are also absolutely divine. I could eat them by the truck load. The chef definitely knows what he is doing in the kitchen. My entire party was pleased with their meals. I have been to Berkeley North several times and will visit again soon.

One of the best restaurants in Hamilton. We shared the mushroom dumplings and I had the teriyaki eggplant (both of which you can ask to have made vegan). My husband has gotten the steak both times we ve gone and we are both obsessed with our respective dishes. I love the decor & lighting as well. The service is excellent. Normally you go to a restaurant and the servers are whipping around, rushing interactions, but not here. It s a very laid back vibe, even in the glimpses to the kitchen. I felt so comfortable. And the COCKTAILS. Both times I ve gone there s been different selections and I loved each of my choices. Just go, check it out for yourselves, you won t be disappointed.

The overall experience was delightful. Food was INCREDIBLE and the Fall Vibes cocktail was the best drink Ive had in a long time. The menu is a tad pricey but completely worth it for the services. 11/10. Would recommend and go again. We had dinner here last weekend. The food is always tasty, creative and unique. I want to draw attention to their non-alcoholic beverages menu. We tried a few and they were excellent! I would pick Berkeley North to eat at over other restaurants just because of this. Great atmosphere, food and drinks.

Bit too pricey is what lowers it to a 4-star. Have always had a good time here. Food is usually very good. Need to dial back the salt occasionally but in general have always liked what I have ordered. Drinks are exceptionally good.

Loved the small/expensive plates, especially the chicken sliders. I personally dont enjoy having dinner conversation with louder music with vocals in the background, but others may be good with it.

Went with a friend for dinner after the Van Gogh Immersive. Picked it cuz it was close and menu looked interesting. WOW! What a great choice. The food is inspired, great combinations, excellent and imaginative. They make lots of stuff from scratch that one would never expect. The cheese on toast is to die for. Actually, everything was amazing and the service was beyond expectations. Alix was friendly, attentive and super efficient but not overbearing and didn t rush us at all. She knew the menu well, suggested our best selections and even my drink and she was right on the money. Fabulous evening. Highly recommend and will definitely return!

Overall a good experience. We got the mushroom dumplings, fresh cheese and sourdough and truffle and mushroom gnocchi. They were all delicious. We were a little disappointed in the portion sizes and felt they could have been bigger. For dessert we got an almond cake with strawberry compote topping but it wasnt anything special. The compote tasted like straight strawberry jam and the cake was meh. Our server was friendly enough and the atmosphere was good, although noisy. They asked if it was a birthday when we booked (online) but did not do anything to acknowledge the celebration. Overall a good experience
