193 King St E, Hamilton, ON L8N 1B3, Canada
A Euro style cellar bistro serving elevated World Fusion inspired food.
First time at this place on Saturday night for dinner with my family. The service was average trending to be slow. The food was good with some "wild game" options. The noise level at the place is too high. I found the tables too small making them too tight for the glasses, water bottle, plates, menus, etc. The atmosphere in general is nice. I found the prices a bit in the high side.
Beautiful spot but unfortunate issues. Asked for two dirty martinis, server did not specify or ask anything so we received their version of a dirty martini with anchovies made with gin. Olives have seeds… but no napkin to discard. I am not a fish in my drink type gal but she did not come back to see that everything was Ok. Received the wrong meal and while I began to eat it unknowingly… a server came to take it away. We had to ask for cutlery. Risotto had mushrooms that were abnormally chewy so my boyfriend did not finish his plate. My steak frites were almost $50 and came with frozen mcain style fries… unlike the previous photos I can see on the reviews of this dish. Menu states truffle fries- this was not the case. To salvage this experience I ordered a glass of wine and before it was even half way done I was served the bill. I kindly said I wasn’t ready and proceeded to order another glass. Server was very friendly but needs training. $200 dollar dinner left super unhappy.
Entrance from the street makes you think that you are going to be on street level but head on downstairs! Great atmosphere and cosy decor. Definitely an eclectic menu with lots of interesting European influences on other cuisine. The winners at our table were the wild game pie ( delicious), burger and watermelon feta salad.
Beautiful restaurant. The inside looks very cozy and warm. The bathrooms are pretty as well. The food on the other hand was.... Absolutely not worth it and low. It might have been the worst pie I have ever had. It smelt , it was bland. Barely had a tasty flavor. Even the frozen pies at a supermarket taste better than this. At least have a gravy , or mash , or peas. It was just a pie with no sides or anything. My friends had chicken with the sides. Was a better choice in terms of the worth and variety on a plate. The taste of the chicken was alright. It was sort of like a peri peri type of dish like Nandos. However Nandos is better . The dessert was a south American variety I forgot specifically from where . It was decent. It was interesting. I enjoyed it. It tasted nice. It was light and tangy. Overall food wasn't tasty won't be coming back. For the price they should be embarrassed to charge that.
This place is AMAZING! My partner and I came to eat here for his birthday this year wanting to try something new and we could not have been more pleased. We tried the 30-hour roasted hen and the steak, and they were so delicious. We also had the queso and put it on everything. The service was amazing, it was a very quiet night because it was late and stormy outside, which meant we got extra attention from the waitstaff who were kind, courteous, and warm. We will definitely be coming back for more nice dinners here. When you go, make sure to try their cocktails and appetizers. They're fabulous :)
Fancy little Bistro! Very unique atmosphere for Hamilton! The cocktail we tried was amazing. Friends had burgers and steak and were very pleased with the taste and quality of food. Would recommend this place but beware that overall it is a tad pricey! $32 for a burger, but it was delicious.
First time visiting and we were impressed! Great service from friendly staff. Our waiter took great care of us and food was served fast. The place has a great atmosphere. I had a burger and my husband had steak frites, both of which were cooked perfectly.
Been twice. First time was perfection, if a bit pricey. The second time their prices had gone up and the food wasn't quite as good. That said, still a neat place overall. Great atmosphere.
*Note: Not wheel chair or handicapped friendly. You have to be able to do a flight of stairs down and then back up to leave. The interior has a bit of a creepy vibe, but I later found out that the place has a murderous history which explained the vibe. In any event, there were a group of us, and the wait staff were very friendly. I ordered the steak and lobster to treat myself, and found the dish expensive for what I received. My steak was already sliced, -the lobster was quite small, about 4 small blackened potatoes, and krispy kale. ($60.00). There was gristle in the steak, that I had to keep spitting out, which of course was embarrassing. However, no real complaints, and its a night out with a new experience.
Ordered the shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was overcooked to the point of near mush and the bread was very clearly stale; tough and soaking in the broth didnt help. The staff was kind which was very nice. But at the prices they charge these are pretty big and obvious problems.
Cool vibes of restaurant with the cellar feel of it all but not a great kid friendly place, didn t realize you had to go down a flight of stairs as soon as you walk in the front door and I had to carry my babies stroller and car seat down, not sure if there was accessibility access as there wasn t staff to greet at the door. Server was friendly and nice but drinks took quite a while to come as well as asking repeatedly for certain things that did not arrive and forgotten about. Example, ketchup, soda water, fork. Ordered the steak frites medium rare and it was served what looked like blue rare. I am never one to send food back but I just couldn t accept that, steak was put back on the grill and brought back, inside was still VERY pink, server took steak back again. Once returned it was better but the parts that were cut to check were obviously cooked more so part of the steak was medium rare, other parts were more well done. What should ve happened was have the chef put a new steak on the grill entirely. Manager came over to apologize and took care of the steak off the bill which was nice. Just seeing the price of their menu items I expected more from the dish and being cooked how I asked the first time. Unfortunately will not be returning.
Good
My cousin and her daughter went out for dinner. Her daughter loved the empanadas and fries. We loved ceasar salad and wild mushroom risotto. We would come back for dinner again
Wow! What an experience. Food was outstanding & delicious. Service was fantastic. The atmosphere was a 5+ rating. We will be back. Cheers.
The service was awful, we waited 30 minutes at our table before the server came, and they messed up one of our entrees. The food was bland and uninspired. Considering the price, this was a horrible dining experience.
19 dollars for a Cesar salad, they literally threw 3 full leaves of lettuce on my plate, a lemon wedge, a couple anchovies and full slices of cheese and some sub par makeshift crouton which they expected me to cut up and make myself? Waiter was rude when I asked if this is how the salad actually comes and that its not even a prepared salad, I told them we wouldnt be staying and Id like to speak with the manager regarding the matter, he came back with a bill told me the manager said they wouldnt comp the salad and asked if it was debit. Then had the nerve to ask for a tip. Insanely bad service. Terrible food practice, food itself on peoples plates looked and smelled like diner food. Its a gimmicky high end atmosphere with low end food and service. Better review?
Great experience, delicious food. No one laughed at me while I tried to figure out how to eat a duck wing. Dont bring vegetarians here.
The food was to die for, service was exceptional, and everything about the aesthetics just hit every button for me. 12/10, will absolutely come here again.
Brothers Grimm is one of my top 3 fave restaurants! Amazing atmosphere, super cozy & cool, food is to die for, drinks are delish & service is outstanding! Parking: Paid lot directly across the street or paid parking on the street out front
Interesting atmosphere, tasty food, great service. Prices are not cheap but it is worth the experience. (we spend 50$ per person, no alcohol) Also notes for the 1st time visitors: The locetion is very easy to miss, however is is more comfortable inside then it might seem from the street. Also some of the food might be strange for the people unfamiliar with european cuisine. Will definitely visit again on the next visit to Hamilton. Parking: Paid parking on the other side of the building. Within the walking distance
Excellent food, wonderful service and amazing atmosphere!
Steak was covered in Chimichurrisauce that wasn t part of the menu description and the steak was by far the worst cut I ve ever had looked like a fast fry steak and when I sent my order back the insisted I pay for it with only willing to take off 15% of the bill not to mention the hair in the lobster tail, place is an absolute joke making their staff argue percentages with customers over garbage food that wasn t eaten and sent back don t be fooled by the atmosphere this place is horrible unless your going for strictly drinks I wouldn t recommend whatsoever the owners are straight brokeys and coincidentally don t speak English they clearly don t treat their staff properly pick another spot save yourself the headache, trust me what a fiasco that was
Amazing game meat and Peruvian cuisine set in an underground European style bistro. The game meat dishes, like the casoulet and the mixed sausage board, are excellent. They also have tasty appetizers, like the ceviche and the sashimi. Prices are not low, but it was worth it for me. Parking: Parking situation is not great. It can get pretty busy because the restaurant is downtown. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly if your children like game meat.
The food was great great service as well petra was our server and she did a great job
Incredible food and service. Very diverse menu!
Could not ask for a better night out. Food was amazing, never had a bad bite. Atmosphere and decor was fantastic. Service was fabulous, great suggestions. Nothing to complain about. Would definitely go back and recommend to friends.
Food: In short, the food lacked love and ingredient quality. I ordered the Steak Frites and the Chicharron. Chicharron was tasty enough, crispy on the skin side but did have a very high fat percentage, even for pork belly. The plating was sloppy and excessive, a giant puddle of avocado cream on the plate. Excessive amount of pickled onion over the top, the pickled onion tasted rushed, not left to pickle long enough. The Steak Frites was far worse. First, it arrived not in frite form but as a whole striploin with what looked like simulated grill marks. The meat looked like it was cooked to medium rare but the texture of the steak was very rubbery. Cant confirm but tasted like it was cooked from frozen or re-fired. Not worth the price. Massive quantity of french fries which are purportedly triple cooked. One could not make the distinction between these and once fried shoestring potatoes. Most triple cooked fries ive had are much thicker -- crispy on outside, pillowy on inside. Dipping sauce was nice. My wife liked the Mushroom Risotto well enough. Duck Fat-washed bourbon sour was really good, but for the $20 price tag would like to know which bourbon was used in the drink menu. Service: We went in on a Wednesday evening at 7pm when it was very slow -- only 3 tables of two people taken. Only the bartender managing the tables and bar so service was slow for the price tag, but dont put it on her. If shes making custom cocktails, she needs help. I did tell her what i thought of the food --- she did offer to get me something else to her credit. I refused it. I had originally planned to get the A5 wagyu here but Im glad i waited until seeing the other food first. If so little care is taken with simple steak frites, theres no chance im buying a premium cut from you. Atmosphere: The place was beautiful from several angles except the kitchen pickup area which we could see from our table. It did not match the age and character of the rest of the place. Realize you need modern smooth surfaces to keep it clean --- my suggestion would be to hide it from guest view. Overall, i dont think we will back -- the value for price just wasnt there.
The is location has so much character and the vibe is great. The wait staff is super friendly. The food looked amazing but was bland. I went on a wednesday, that souldnt excuse it, but maybe it is better on the weekend. I would go back for a drink but not the food.
Seen this place online was visiting hamilton... went on a Saturday night it was awesome. Food was amazing, drink menu was great and the staff welcomed us and helped us anyway they could. 10/10....Ty and Erica were awesome people and a pleasure to meet.
In town for RBC Open and found this place online, great atmosphere, service was friendly and the menu was pleasantly unique, recommend the califlower appetizer!
Such a cool and inviting atmosphere. I went with some friends for my birthday and it was a lovely experience. The service was excellent and food was delicious. Cant wait to come back again.
One of the best dinners I ve had in Hamilton and a stunning atmosphere :)
All four of our meals were heavily over seasoned. The ceaser salad (full stocks of romaine) was served on a wobbly plate/bowl which made it difficult to cut, was kinda comical. Waitress was too busy to bring the bottle of wine we ordered. Cool place, drinks were great.
I am a burger fiend. This is the best burger Ive ever had, from anywhere in the world. 5 stars in everything. Dan says... check it out! Food
The waitress did not listen to our requests. I did not want anchovies in my Caesar salad. She put my order in. The salad came back with anchovies in it. I sent it back. She told me the chef prefers the salad with the anchovies. Strike One. I ordered a steak and asked that it be prepared medium well. She brought me my steak. It was too undercooked for my liking. I told her I wanted my steak cooked further. She replied that the chef feels that medium rare is ideal for this steak. Strike Two. We were seated at a round bar table with high chairs. The table was very small. We saw empty tables and asked to be moved. We were told those tables were reserved. We ate our meal and when we left the empty table, that was reserved, was still empty. No one used it the entire time we were there. Strike Three. Not a pleasant night.
Everything about this place was great! Great service, great atmosphere, and the food was amazing. Great spot for a date. Highly recommend If your in Hamilton
Great restaurant 10/10. Amazing service with super nice staff and the food was definitely worth the money you spend.
My husband and I had booked reservations coming from out of town for Sunday, we take our Uber to the location after getting email confirmations and reminders of our anniversary reservations just to find out the place is closed Sundays which I get is partially my fault for not looking at the hours but also maybe update your bookings to not allow reservations for when you re closed. Ruined our anniversary plans completely.
We visited this restaurant before a show and had the best experience. Food was incredible, service was great and loved the atmosphere. Will definitely be back when I am in the area again. Regarding the post below and the couple who visited on the Sunday. That almost happened to us. When you get to the location the signage shows closed on Sundays, and lights are all dark upstairs (restaurant is downstairs). Unless you push the door, you woukd never know they are open. Sign at the back of the building also says closed so maybe time to update? Otherwise, nothing bad to say!!
I highly recommend this restaurant. The service is amazing and the food is extraordinary! It was a fun night all around. Definitely recommend the tequila mockingbird ;) house wine was delicious too. Dinner was beyond my expectations, Compliments to the chef!
first time dinning at Brothers Grimm , not the last . Not a single complaint from start to finish , portion sizes were excellent . Only issue was trying to decide what to order from all the great choices . Service was perfect. Wednesday night , very quiet , great time to go .
I had the steak frites and was very disappointed at the amount of fat the steak had and that it was not quite cooked to my request. paying 50 dollars for fries and a fatty peice of meat is not what I expected from this place. our table also had one other steak frites order with the same complaint as well as two other dishes that from what I was told not cooked properly. we did inform our server about our thoughts and told her we wanted to let the management know along with a statement of we are not looking for anything. that was taken literally by the server as we ended with a full bill. I will not be returning to this establishment as I feel its way overpriced for what you receive. the ambiance was nice but the food did not match this. for the price charged you should expect better!
After hearing that place was pretty good, we made a reservation for 4. Upon entering, we liked the overall look of the place and we expected the food to be just as nice. The shrimp Mozambique were good. The main courses not so much. My daughter and husbands steaks had so much crunchy fat on it, hubby pretty well had a few bite which tasted good at first ,but left it tired of chewing thru the fat and ate his fries. My son in law ordered the chicharrón, the skin of the pork belly should have been light and crispy, it was so hard he couldnt cut thru with his knife. (He was hungry and ate his meal despite making several comments) My Cornish hen was undercooked in my opinion and my fries were cold. I only had a few bites and shared with my companions who said it was at least better than the steak. I politely told our waitress showing her how my husband didnt eat his steak. She was nice enough but didnt care. We were not looking for a total freebee but she could have taken one $50steak off the bill. At that price,It should have been tender at least . We spent $ 300 between the 4 of us, paid our bill graciously with tip for our server. kids didnt even have alcohol we didntget dessert. We all agreed we wouldnt return. 2 stars on the food. Disappointed.
My fiancé and I dined here for the first time for our anniversary dinner. To start, the service was fantastic. The cocktails were creative and very well done. Our food was also fantastic - we had the cauliflower fritters, game sausage board, and the lobster/steak. All of this was complimented by a really cool, moody atmosphere that gave speak easy vibes. We will definitely be back!
First off the service was terrible , We had a starter plate on the table before our drinks were served?? Whats up with that??? We then ordered the wagu steak, and I was dissapointed just from the look of it! And to top it off , it was covered in an oily sauce, and wasnt cooked to my order(medium). The worst dinner Ive ever had at 425.00 . It was disgusting. Would not recommend. A bowl of cereal would have been more tasty.
Surprised I didnt know about this hidden gem earlier! Looking forward to coming back! Food
This is well worth a visit if you want good food, well cooked and presented. The menu is different and truly eclectic. We had Sashimi Tuna and the Brussel Sprouts to start. Generous portions Very tasty. Followed by Tuna steak and the Hunters Wild Meat Pie, excellent . Again very generous portions for rich food and for almost the first time in my life, I couldnt finish. Adequate wine list, our Shiraz was very good. My wifes Dry Martini was very good (and shes very picky about DM). This downstairs room is attractive and tastefully done. The service was very good. Its not cheap, but for what they serve it is good value
I visited Hamilton from out of town and had a great meal. Friendly and helpful service, delicious food, and unique and comfortable atmosphere. Well worth the visit, and I will definitely plan to return to Brothers Grimm Bistro when back in the area!
Wonderful experience and service! We were attended by very friendly and attentive staff. Tha ambiance is very cozy and rustic and has a speakeasy vibe. Delicious drinks! Eclectic food menu! Lovely place for a date night! Would 100% recommend this place!!
Loved it, great spot for sure!
Lovely atmosphere, great menu and exceptional service! I asked our servers name at the start and he said: if you enjoy your evening I ll tell you at the end lol portions are better than the usual hip sharing plate menus . A few of the chefs are Colombian so of course I ordered the chicharron with arepas which was great. My wife had the Belgian steak frites and it was exceptional. Cocktails were also amazing. All in all a great time and definitely date night vibes.
One of my new favourites in the Hamilton area. I would highly suggest, as their food was to die for. Not only was the atmosphere perfect, it was complimented by great service.
Place is just an L
Read about this new restaurant and wanted to try and glad I did. Firstly the atmosphere is amazing , as soon as you walk down the stairs into the restaurant you know you are in for a good night. Service was amazing everyone was friendly and talkative with us, it s clear they enjoy working there and have a passion for food. Food was amazing we have Shrimp Mozambique and cauliflower fritters for apps and steak frites fromage and wild game pie for dinner. All was excellent and highly recommend this restaurant to all.
The steak here was perfectly cooked! They also had delicious cocktails.
I am a frequent diner and tend to have higher standards than most. This was by far the best place I have been in a long time! The food, atmosphere and service was phenomenal. Ivan provided great energy and the chefs cooked up the juiciest lobster and most flavourful steak Ive ever had. Thank you for this great experience! My new favourite place.
My partner and I decided to visit for our first time and loved the place from first to last. Service from Ivan deserves a shout out on its own as he was great. Drinks were nice, and after trying to decide what to order, all the selections we made were on point. We know this place can get busy so going on a week night outside of peek hours made the atmosphere all the more intimate. We definitely will visit again to try more! Thank you Brothers Grimm :)
This place was defiantly an amazing find. I went to Brothers Grimm for a birthday, and had such an amazing overall experience, I would go back any chance I get. When we arrived, we were quickly greeted with a genuine smile, and brought to a clean table. We ordered, and got an amazing recommendation of the Brussel sprouts along side the tuna (The Brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection, with a slight char on the outside, and a soft bite on the inside. It came with pumpkin seeds and seasonings. When paired with the sauce that came with the tuna, it melted in my mouth. The tuna itself was also amazing, seared on the outside and perfectly red and meaty inside.). Along with the starters, I ordered a non-alcoholic strawberry mojito, and was pleasantly surprised. It was refreshing, and not too sweet. The mint was present, but not overwhelming. All the other drinks ordered at my table were equally as delightful, while also being unique. While waiting for the food, I had a look around. It felt quite posh, but also lovely at the same time. The lighting is perfect for calm or romantic events, and the interior design pairs with it nicely. I especially loved that each table came with a lit candle in individual, neat containers. The food arrived together, and beautifully plated. I ordered La Terre Et La Mer, a steak, which I got medium well, a lobster tail, mushrooms, kale chips and potatoes. The steak was cooked exactly how I like it, and the lobster was hearty and tender. The kale chips melted when you bit them, and paired amazingly along with the sauce. The potatoes were soft with a crispy exterior, slightly coated with brown sugar and salt to add an amazing and completely different flavour. My table also ordered a dish which came with fries, and needless to say they were gone immediately. The fries were salted to perfection, and along with the soft, fluffy inside and the crispy outside, were mouth watering. To end off the experience, we ordered desert. We ordered the chocolate tarte, and the milhoja. The chocolate tarte seemed dry at first because of how it came apart when you tried to grab some, but after a bite, it is actually quite moist and rich. It came with drunken berries and a heavy whipped cream, all tying the dish together nicely. The Milhoja was light and crispy, good for if you were already a bit full. It came with a light peach sauce, and caramel in between pastries. When you go, I would suggest asking your server for recommendations, because they know what they re doing. They will give you an honest opinion, and greet you with a smile and some of the best customer service I ve ever had.
Food was good, cool atmosphere, prices were higher as expected but unfortunately the service was very poor. The staff were chaotic and running around and our server was very uninterested in being there with little personality. Expectations were much higher and would likely not return.
Came here for my bday. Had a reservation for 5, they put us at a wobbly table for 4 with a chair at the end. That was the start of a disaster! The owner was having a party and had a huge table of people all very loud, whistling and yelling like they were at home and no one else got service. They eventually moved us to a booth for four, and three of us sat squished on one side. It took 2 hours to get our entrees and we had to send them back because they were cold. The owner came over and apologized and offeres to take 20% off our bill. I advised it wasnt enough and he agreed to give is a 50% discount. Which was only applied to the entrees. Cool spot, cool vibe, live music was great! Experience was a 1/10. With so many great new spots in the city, we wont be back here. Even with a discount it was a waste of $500 and put a real damper on what shouldve been a celebration!
Delicious food and great ambiance. Our server was fantastic - energetic and full of knowledge. The food was incredible.
This place is amazing. We had a wonderful time, the food is incredible and loved the live music.
Excellent food, great service and wonderful environment !
Food was delicious! The Caesar salad is traditionally full leaf. I recommend the cheese cake for dessert. Atmosphere is very nice. A unique place!
Everything started with our server Zorha and his beautiful smile and helping us with a few recommendations for appetizers and drinks! We started with tequila cocktail, piña verde, chicharrón , ceviche and Brussels sprouts. Let me tell you I am Colombian and I have never had tried any chicharrón in my country (that we are the experts ) like this one it was incredible the perfect crispy skin , crispy meat and soft juicy inside with the mini arepas and based mayo sauce.. the flavors reminded me my country but in a different level I felt super proud of our people and super grateful for the chef David del castillo that created this dish to elevate and honor our culture! By the way the ceviche was amazing too! This is just the beginning, the owner Alvaro come to our table because he hear us talking in Spanish .. as we always do in Colombia he tread us as a family and shared with us the amazing restaurant history and the krak beer that he created (it is on the menu) I am not going to tell you because I want you to go and have the experience!! The beer is 10% of alcohol however tastes like 4% or 5% max it s incredible how he combined the sour ingredients in a perfect way that it doesn t burn your throat..will continue with the entree the wild sausage board super tasty (the rabbit one wow felt in love with that one) but I tried the tuna entree and wasn t my favorite, they can improve that one even more! to finalized my description and to make this history shorter because for sure I can continue telling you the amazing experience in a book but we don t want to boring you lol so to finish you should end with milhojas dessert to try that sweet Colombian explosion!
This place is the definition of bougie. Our server was putting on an act I couldnt help but roll my eyes. When I asked where they got their game meats from, they get it from a food service provider. There are a more than adequate amount of local farmers that could supply these meats to them with a freshness guarantee rather than bringing it in frozen. Layout and design of the space was nice though. Way over priced for frozen food.
Beautiful place the fries with the cheese sauce and some steak slices was not worth 10$ still decent food besides that
Heard so much about it but was disappointed. Good was just ok but the restaurant is in the basement so you need to take the stairs. No elevator! Food
Really cool spot. Down in basement with a great vibe and lighting. Love how drinks come in a clothe with a smoky fog.
Simply fantastic on all counts, the food, atmosphere and service were all amazing. Went there for a holiday dinner with the family and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Best restaurant in Hamilton IMO, we will definitely be back!
lovely place and service!!! a few things to note if you are going there though ask for a sit down/larger table!! we came with a reservation and were placed at a small one in the bar area, but our meals (steak and cornish hen) came on these huge boards that were wider than our little table, and with how much jus was coming out of our foods, made for a mess on the floor we probably should have asked to move, but did not realize by the time out food came out :,) we did not know the Mozambique app was a soup dish until i heard another server ranting about how no one knows what it is after we ordered (did not state on menu either) overall still, a really lovely experience, our server was so sweet!!
Food, service, and atmosphere were all perfect. Will definitely return.
One of those hidden gems in downtown Hamilton. The atmosphere is fantastic with dim lighting and exposed rock and brick throughout with walls of used wine barrels to compliment. The food was delicious. As a group we had brussel sprouts, risotto, caesar, steak, tuna and lobster. See the photos for some of this great food. For desert we had the flourless chocolate torte. This was our second time and we will return again. Parking: As this is downtown, theres lots of paid street parking and lots in the area. If youre going sunday to Wednesday, street parking is free after 6pm. And other times during the month before Christmas you get 2hrs free
Robert, our server, was awesome. The steak and lobster was the best. Look forward to next time!!
We were there Dec 29,2022, the vibe is awesome , services are good too, we ordered risotto and shrimp for starters, risotto is pretty good, shrimp is a bit salty. Then the main, we had two orders of sausage board, they are way tooo salty, I started with the rabbit sausage, it was ok, but the duck and elk are so salty overall it is way to salty somehow
Absolutely fantastic restaurant, from the food, the atmosphere to the servers. I would 100% recommend.
Wanted to like it, but it fell flat Atmosphere was cool but loud. The idea of the game meats is different and could have been so good. Apps (cauliflower fritters, ceviche and duck poutine) were good but the entrees were lacking and expensive. Steak was underseasoned and oddly greasy, yet the cassoulet meats were way too salty (but the beans bland). Fries also bland and undersalted. Cornish hen however was nicely done. Server automatically put in her own 18% tip meanwhile she was totally annoying and over the top and trying to clear our plates before we were finished. Had seen previous menus online with way more options, too bad its been changed and way less options. With some fixes, has potential!
As a former executive of the Kelseys Restaurants chain, I offer that the Brothers Grimm Bistro checks all elements of a signature restaurants value proposition - in flying colours. Pleasantly greeted at the door, seated instantly, attended to shortly thereafter. Drinks were on the table within a few minutes and Im sure we were munching on our first app within 10. Other courses were timed perfectly ... probably thanks to the watchful eye and time-sensitivity of our engaging server, Robert. We had the Italian Cauliflower Fritters, Triple Cooked Frites and authentic Duck Cassoulet. All food items were delectable and met my high expectations. The ambience includes low-intensity lighting, pleasant rustic finishes (brick, stone, thick butcher-block tables, and more), leather-upholstered comfy benches in booths, latin jazz music played at a level that allowed conversation and added to rather than detracted from the experience. I found the price very reasonable, particularly given the quality of everything else. My only regret is that I did not have time to meet and chat with Chef David. I definitely intend to return to this gem in Hamiltons downtown core. Well done owners, chef, Robert and other staff!
My new favourite restaurant. The chicharrón and wild game board are incredible. Samantha took such great care of us. Can t wait to come back!
Great service, amazing food, lovely drinks and presentation! Atmosphere was beautiful--dim, romantic, decor was nice! I will definitely go back to try more of the food!
The food was amazing, but our waiter was definitely rude and he need to be a bit more respectful towards the customers. We didnt appreciate the way he reacted. I would have rated higher but he completely destroyed our view of the place and our girlfriends celebration
Cool spot with good cocktails and friendly staff. The underground wine cellar feel is fantastic. The food was solid, although a few dishes were a little underwhelming in the flavour department (Mozambique shrimp and the tuna steak for example). However, the desserts were fantastic. Overall, a fun spot to check out in the city.
Everything about this place is perfect. The ambiance is fantastic. The staff is personable; they love what they do. Evan made us feel at home and the bartender made the best martinis my husband has ever had. The cassoulet was sooooo good and the Cornish hen was perfect! We will be back for sure.
We ate the sausage platter and the steak frites. With tuna and Brussels to start. Our food was good, for the price we paid possibly a touch below the standard I would expect, my steak was pretty salty and had some chewy/fatty pieces. Fries amazing! The sausages were a bit dry. The tuna starter could have been fresher. I am being picky but I feel like you need to back up your price with a higher quality of dishes. Our server was very friendly, made some service faux pas but he was new, so its excusable but didnt help our experience.
Ambiance. Food. Drinks. Service. 100%
Amazing food great service
Ive been to this place twice already, and it wont disappoint. If you like something out of the ordinary, this is the place to go. The dishes are succulent, and so are the drinks. Weve had the sausage board, both Poutines and the cassoulet, all highly recommended! The only complaint was that the wild Game ragu poutine didnt have a lot of meat in it, but the gravy was delicious and theres a good amount of cheese, so it kind of made up for it. The atmosphere at the restaurant is mysterious and modern, with beautiful brick work so that it feels like youre in a cellar. The seats near the bar are the most private. When we were there last we asked for a different table and they were very accommodating. The whole experience there is worth the price, you will enjoy it.
Wonderful place !!
I wanted to personally thank Lovisa and her entire staff for their special service for our party on Saturday night.. My wife Riya was very happy and impressed with your place, and the food was very good.. We will definitely be back, thank you so much!
Loved this beautiful restaurant, well definitely be back - thank you Lovisa and her staff for the awesome service!
Great space, but on the small side. Plenty of staff, which made the intimate environment too busy and loud to be a relaxing dinner experience. Food was decent but the menu seemed a bit scattered: French, Italian, South American. Put more focus on fine-tuning the dishes. What we had was too charry to be tasty. Drinks were fine, no issue there. A nice outing, but nothing notable enough to hurry back or recommend it.
I loved the gin drink. Nice evening with friends. One of our guests had the wagyu.
Disappointed in my overall experience, I felt disrespected. I ordered the old fashioned and to my own embarrassment I didn t realize the water on the table was for us, so I ordered A beer. The waiter let me know he could not serve 2 alcoholic beverages, fair. He then proceeded to embarrass me infront of other tables. If it s company policy, state that and move on. When I finally received my beer it was in a can why was it under on tap . I would have been more satisfied spending $250 on a date anywhere else. I was really excited to try this place, unfortunately I will not be returning or recommending to anyone. This is the first negative review I have left for a Hamilton restaurant.
I was here for a medical program and the place was closed out to us. I was not expecting a cellar/dungeon look venue, but I liked it. The thick natural stone/brick walls and low ceilings gave the place a warm and cosy feel. The service was A-1 and the food very good. I have never seen a Caesar salad done this way and it was delicious. My tuna steak on rice was also excellent- glad I took the server s advice to make it medium-rare. The chocolate torte desert was icing on the cake. Have a look at the large photos near the washroom which show what a fantastic job they did with the renovations as the original space truly looked like a condemned medieval dungeon. Parking: Park on the street is easy
Super low Key and super fabulous place! Great food. I had the Signature chicharron with arepa. Great great GREAT! A drink called the Airplane! So good! Nothing but compliments! Strange hours though. Hours are the only reason for a 4 star more like a 4 1/2. My server was Robert! And he was fabulous! 100%
The environment and service was nice. Maybe the food I chose wasnt the best.
Update March 18, 2022. We went for supper. I didn t find the staff to be very organized this visit. I was sat down at a table and not greeted by a server for more time than I would expect. It turned out that we were being served by the bartender. With this level of restaurant, I expect they would have a server serve the tables as opposed to a bartender who is also mixing drinks at the bar beside us. I would expect this type of service at a pub when you are sat in the bar area. We were not asked where we wanted to sit. They changed the menu from the last time I was there and the one on their website is out of date. They no longer offer wine by the glass except for Creekside which is a local winery. The wine menu is disappointing. What they offer on their website should mirror the actual menu. I found the service friendly but seriously lacking in attention to detail or setting the table. I had to ask for cutlery three times after we sat there looking at our deconstructed Caesar salads without means to eat them. When we were finished eating, we again sat there waiting to be offered our bill when the manager abruptly came up to us and asked us to move to the bar so they could have the table. He offered us free dessert to move. I simply stated we would be leaving if we had been offered the bill so we could pay for our meal. They offered to seat us at the bar in front of the trays of glasses. The whole experience is not something I wish to repeat. I do not plan on attending this place albeit unique wine cellar ambiance due to the lack of professionalism in service. I would no longer recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting high class food and service. An unique atmosphere like a wine cellar. Dim lighting, open kitchen concept so you may watch him cook. The server was super friendly and helpful. The owner came over to check in with us. The food was delicious. The service was overall stellar. The wine list was extensive. I would highly recommend this restaurant for their eclectic stylings and offerings.
TL;DR - Unprofessional, slow and awkward service in an empty restaurant. The food and drinks were average at best and definitely not worth the price you pay. This place looks nice and thats all, dont dine here. Like many others I wanted to enjoy this place but the service was just horrible. With a half empty restaurant, and having made a reservation, we were sat underneath the stairs... in full view of several empty booths. It took our server 20 minutes to ask if we wanted drinks which is when we asked to change tables. They accommodated this change. For both the apps & dessert we were never served plates to actually eat the food, so we had to use our hands to make sure we didnt spill food all over the table. After ordering our dessert our server came and asked if we were all set... having seemingly forgotten we had just ordered dessert. If the restaurant was packed perhaps this would have been understandable but by the time we ordered dessert, we were the only people in the place. And when we were ready to pay our server just disappeared? The best part was when our server had just assumed he deserved a $20 tip on an $80 bill... When someone pays cash you usually provide all of the change back and leave it up to the customer to decide the amount they would like to leave.
Incredible food and atmosphere
Just got home after a lovely date night at Brothers Grimm Bistro. We had never been there and wanted to find a new place tonight. We literally googled best upscale restaurant-vibe in Hamilton, and Brothers Grimm came up. So glad we took the chance and tried it. The atmosphere in there in amazing and cosy. We were greeted by a lovely hostess, and then Alexander looked after us for the evening. Alexander is a superstar server who helped make our date-night so special, The food was fantastic - we filled up on appetizers, wine, dessert & a freshly prepared coffee. We will 100% go back and bring friends next time. Awesome restaurant that I would recommend to anyone wanting a special night out!!!
Great cellar atmosphere. Great service. Food was good but not exceptional, especially for the price.
The food was delicious and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place.
Amazing drinks, amazing staff. Thanks guys, margherita was best in town!
I dont remember the name of our server, but she was awesome, explained everything so good and was really friendly. The place is beautiful, also they have live music and the food is really good, I tried the lobster with steak and omg, it was the first time I tried lobster and it was worth it. Thank you so much to the kitchen guys and all the staff, my family and I had a really good tike with you!
Way too expensive for me
Great place with service and food!
The wild game pie and the wild game sausage board were both just amazing As for the ambience, it s a dark place which is quite cozy. They also serve some unique cocktails, some of which are infused with liquid nitrogen.
Wheelchair accessibility: Down a long flight of stairs. Very inaccessible. Food
The atmosphere was great. Cool cellar vibe, nice lighting. Food was alright, we enjoyed most of what we had. The actual service was pretty terrible. Not very busy while we were there but no drink checks or any checks for the most part. Food all came out at different times so my app arrived first. my partners app arrived a few minutes later. same with the main course. At the end of the meal they refused to honor a gift card we were gifted at Christmas. if it were not for us pushing back 3 or 4 times for them to check with increasing managers over a half hour they would just have been content not honoring it. Your mileage may vary, but we will not be returning.
This is a cool place with a laid back vibe, friendly service, and outstanding food. The cauliflower fritters and aioli were a great start, followed by a flavourful venison burger and frites. The smoked cornish game hen was also excellent. The milohas cake for dessert was a perfect finish to our meal. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience! The food was tasty and well paced. The cocktails were well presented, and the service was friendly and welcoming.
Amazing atmosphere. Loved the food. Never had game meats before but they were all prepared so well and tasted AMAZING
We were celebrating with family of 10 for 2 birthdays. The team here were fantastic from the time of booking the reservation to the end of the night! Bal s cocktails were delicious and our server Alexander/Caton was amazing! Very engaging and attentive. The chef did an excellent job serving all of our meals together and the food was amazing! They even had a high chair available for one of our 16 month old guests. We will definitely be back! Vegetarian options: Fish, etc Kid-friendliness: Had a high chair available for my 16 month old niece
It wasn t terrible but not what I was hoping for. Service was friendly but disappointing for a high end restaurant. First time at this restaurant as I booked for my wedding anniversary (which they forgot about until I brought it up despite letting them know at the time of reserving). I figured for the price we d get some overview of the menu, but instead the waiter just kept coming up to us asking ready to order?? Cocktails were okay but nothing special. Our appetizers were delivered late and then our main courses arrived early. The food was pretty good but we weren t blown away by our mains (but the ceviche appetizer was delicious). Waiter was not super attentive throughout the evening (though I ll note the other waiter at the table next to us seemed great!). These are all minor nitpicks, and we didn t have a bad experience by any means, but for the prices on the menu I had expected a lot more. I ve had better dining experiences for significantly less money in Hamilton.
One of the best Bistros I have ever been too !! The atmosphere was very classy and elegant. The food was incredible and perfectly cooked! I would highly recommend this restaurant for the perfect dinning experience. The staff are so humble and kind ! Kaiten was a fantastic server!! He made our night so much fun !! Thanks again for a wonderful evening
The food was good, but the waiter was a little overwhelming. He wasnt very friendly and he talked so much and so loud that it was practically having to listen to his yelling every few minutes. I think it was a dominican guy with glasses.
Visiting from the US, and chose this place as a date night. Did not disappoint! great atmosphere and service (the manager was our server). Small wine list, but great food overall and great experience! Really enjoyed talking with the manager
We had mixed feelings about our visit. Our server was adorable and very friendly. Atmosphere was cozy. Our food was delicious (aside from a kinda thin steak and maybe too much seasoning). The cheesecake with mango was wonderful. The other server working was very loud and insulted the table next to us when we were waiting to pay. They asked for their steak to be well-done and he said one shoe coming up... super rude for the vibe the establishment is going for. We could tell the customers were upset after he left the table. I just found this one server to be pretty pretentious with how they interacted with their tables overall. Too bad because our server was just lovely.
I honestly am speechless. From the food, presentation, service, drinks. Everything was beyond my expectations. I ve travelled to many places and I can honestly say this was some of the best quality tasting food I ve eaten in a long time.
I shared an amazing evening here for my birthday with a party of 18 women. It was hard to find a restaurant in hamilton able to accommodate such a large group. This restaurant accommodated my group, pleasant friendly staff, exceptional ambiance with the stone walls and lighting. The food was incredible and authentic. Will definitely be back and highly recommend to anyone who loves a good vibe, delicious cocktails and excellent cuisine. 10/10
Amazing food and service! The employee was extremely friendly and attentive, we had a great time. We were celebrating my brother s birthday we got two complementary drinks along with a nice dessert. The German red wine was nice as well as the homemade ice tea. I would recommend to anyone looking for amazing food and a calm atmosphere.
Awesome spot in downtown Hamilton. Its almost a secret
Service was superb. We had a small mishap and the waiter handled it with grace and lots of positive energy. Food was very good by Hamilton standards but average in general. Food
My summary would be: This restaurant is a beautiful space, with good food, but struggles with the details. For a price this high, I expect great food and a nearly perfect experience. I dont mind paying for that occasionally, but the experience at Brogrimm Bistro was that of a meal that was ~25% cheaper than what we paid. The booking experience was okay, we expected a late table since we made a reservation at around 6PM. I requested a table for 2 on the site, for 7:30PM and sure enough, nothing available. The only option it offered was bar seating at 8:45PM or later. When we arrived there were at least 4 tables available, and we were seated at a booth which was nice, especially considering the price. Im not sure why it didnt provide table options, but this is something the restaurant should review. By the time we left it was deserted, and no surprise considering the booking service said there were no seats available when there clearly were. Service was a bit rocky. The woman who seated us, was also doing some table service, she came back to us once, and was a bit short, not looking to chat. The man who ended up serving us felt like he didnt have a lot of experience serving, as again, it was a bit awkward to order from him, and when we were done, I asked for the bill and he said we could take our time, but our drinks were empty, and we had no food. The one guy (who has been mentioned in other reviews) did not stop talking, really loudly, going off about French people or something. He talked to the table behind us loudly for a solid 5 minutes or longer. Food was good, not amazing. We started with the ceviche and I had the Chicharron and my partner had the tuna steak. All were really good, but not amazing. Considering the cost I would have expected a bit better, but the portions were decent and Id eat it again. Wine was $15 for a glass, but it was a hefty pour. Almost all other wines were by the bottle only, so we both got the house pour which was a good wine. No major complaints there. My biggest complaint is the beer prices. $12 for a 14oz of a normal beer is highway robbery. Bars in the area charge $8.50 for a 20oz beer, nicer restaurants on James and King William will charge $10 for a 16oz beer, but $12 for a 14oz beer is absolutely crazy. Thats nearly doubled the price of the same beer per oz at a local bar within walking distance. Music was a bit too loud considering the restaurant was empty near the end of our meal, and something more jazzy would have been more appropriate. Nothing irks me more than eating an expensive meal and hearing mediocre pop music thats a but too upbeat for the setting. This is a fancier restaurant, and so Id expect a better mood. The bathroom had the music way too loud because its a small room, and it was again, more akin to a medium priced restaurant. The urinal was falling apart with a crazy caulking job, a light was missing from the light fixture, and the drying method after washing hands was a blow dryer instead of paper towels. I could see the toilet paper in the stall flying around, so I can imagine someone use the stall would get blown every time someone dries their hands. The candle on our table was out and we had to ask for it to be relit. Lastly the default tip options for this meal started at 18%. Minor nitpicks: the social media could use some work to seem a bit more upscale and mature. The Open sign on the front door could be a bit nicer, there are nicer open signs that dont look like your entering a fancy convenience store. Honestly, could probably do away with the Open sign altogether, its a bit unnecessary for an upscale restaurant. The appetizer, two meals, and three drinks came to $166 with tax We purchased the cheapest meals on the menu too. I think BroGrimm need to iron out the details a bit, or reduce the prices to a medium priced restaurant instead of the premium prices theyre charging. I would have been happy if the price of this meal was around $125-$130 range. It didnt feel like a nearly $200 dinner after tip.
Great little spot. Surf and turf kind of steakhouse meals, but more interesting takes. A Colombian spin on gamey meats is what the server said and is pretty accurate. 10/10 would go again.
Unprofessional waiter, deragatory. He doesn t want to be there.
What an incredible time at BGB! It marked the start of many Sunday dinner dates. Chef Saras ceviche and Brussels sprouts were absolutely delightful. MPs cheesecake and chocolate cake were irresistible. The music and atmosphere created a thoroughly enjoyable experience. A big thank you to B & Erica for their fantastic service!
Enjoyed our first experience at your restaurant. Fantastic personable service. Amazing mixologist artistry. Beautiful atmosphere and deco. The chef seems to be quite passionate about his menu. Well done, Brothers Grimm!
Went here on a Thursday to celebrate my partner s birthday and it was exceptional! It wasn t too busy and we were sat in the corner surrounded by barrels and the music gave French bistro vibes. The food was fantastic, I definitely recommend the game meat pie! And if you get drinks, you NEED to try the pina verde. Our server/bartender, Zoran, was very attentive and accommodating. We will definitely be back in the future!
Amazing dinner here tonight. The staff and service were incredible, and so accomodating with our baby. The food was excellent. Thank you all for making our evening so special! My only feedback would be that almost everyone at our table had a side of fries with their meal. While the fries were great I think they were hoping for something more interesting, especially given the price point for each meal. Hope this helps!
Great food, nicely presented, and flavourful. Pricey but good value. My only issue was that they added 20% gratuity due to group size (for which they informed us) but the payment machine still offered the option to tip. Im not a fan of automatic tipping in the first place, so this was confusing and annoying an otherwise nice experience. Will go again for intimate dinners and functions.
Absolutely loved the food, service and atmosphere! Parking: Parking was relatively east to find. Large enough paid parking directory across the street. Kid-friendliness: Amazing Service from beginning to end!
Came on a Saturday night for a birthday celebration. Table of 2. Beautiful restaurant, as soon as you walk in your greeted by a great host with a smile. Looking around the place is clean, and set up well, not too tight of seating. Booths are raised a bit along the boarder of the dining room, that s a great touch. We sat on the very end of the restaurant near the bar, high top in a very nice intimate table. We felt like we were closed in our own little experience at this spot. We ordered a couple of espresso martinis to start. Then each had our own cocktail which all were done beautifully. We ordered house red wine with our mains and were disappointed, was a tough drink, not smooth at all. although house wine we should have known better. For food we ordered Italian cauliflower fritters - 5/5 - these were a great start to our dinner. Very crispy, lots of flavours and the smoked feta aioli was a great addition. (Although I didn t really get a Smokey element at all in the aioli). Cooked perfectly so still had a bite to it, wasn t mushy at all. Portuguese shrimp Mozambique - 2/5 - shrimp was slightly overdone. Broth was nice, but it did lack flavour, even a bit of salt and/or citrus would have brought the dish to life. Bread accompanied with it was very stale. Overall I really wanted to like this dish and have heard great things, could have been just the one mishap but will give it another shot some time. La mer et la terre - 4/5 huge portion, but worth it. Hug lobster tail with lots of creamy mushroom, strip loin sliced thin, with sauce and kale crisps. I did enjoy this, my only thought was that it is extremely rich and could have used a bit of acidity to help cut the fattiness/richness of this dish, aside from that, fantastic. Hunters wild game pie - 5/5 - my partner had this and she really enjoyed. Big portion, lots of mushrooms. Bone marrow was a great hit as well, the pastry was perfect, and seasoned very well. Good presentation, would definitely recommend this. Service was good, bartender was accommodating and knowledgeable with the menu. Our table sat with empty glasses and plates for some time (at least 10 minutes) while people kept walking by. Overall we really enjoyed this restaurant. A few small things could have been better but the experience was a win and we will definitely come back to try more of the menu. Would recommend for sure, great place for an intimate dinner for 2 or even a small gathering of friends looking for something a bit different than the average restaurant
First experience at this restaurant. Much anticipated visit. Food was sub-par. Very expensive for what you get. We had four different mains, 2 appetizers and a dessert, all of which were just average in terms of quality. Drinks were not good either - very one note - tasted like juice. Even the presentation was underwhelming. We were sooo looking forward to coming here and were sorely disappointed. Will not be coming back and would not recommend. Many better places in town to spend that kind of cash, and feel satisfied by your meal and experience. Vegetarian options: No options on the mains part of the menu for vegetarian folks. Just on the appetizer side.
The restaurant has a warm atmosphere and the food was delicious. Everyone at our table was very happy with their choices.
Fantastic drinks and atmosphere! Incredibly friendly staff who were more than accommodating when we arrived with only about an hour until close. Will be back soon!
Wonderful place with excellent food and staff. Creative menu - you can t miss!
Delicious food and very friendly staff. A new staple in the Hamilton food scene.
Brothers Grimm is a lovely little restaurant with great atmosphere and fantastic food. The staff were very helpful and our server, Nick, was friendly and fun. Overall our visit was very positive and we couldnt help but have a great time, smiling the whole night. The food was incredible, definitely a nice change of pace from many more traditional restaurants. I absolutely recommend Brothers Grimm for delicious food and a fun night out.
I love this hidden gem! The food & cocktails are fantastic but the friendly service takes the cake! Highly recommend this place!
Visited the restaurant for a Valentine s Day dinner and the food and service was amazing!! Would highly recommend.
Went to Brothers Grimm in Hamilton last night. Food, service and atmosphere is outstanding. The moment you walk in your greeted with a European style, celler type atmosphere and a friendly face. For our visit, it was Frank. He was welcoming, attentive and went above and beyond to make sure our night was memorable. Nick, our waiter was attentive and not to overbearing so as we would be able to enjoy every aspect of our dinner. the food was top notch and high quality. Everything you would expect from a place like this. I had the wagyu steak paired with a italianToscany Red wine and I couldnt have been happier. Nick and Frank took great care of us making the evening very enjoyable. I would recommend Brothers Grimm to anyone looking for a memorable night out. we will be back.
On Friday we went to Brothers Grimm Bistro and WOW was it amazing! The atmosphere is very prohibition speak easy with delicious food and cocktails. They offer a mixologist masterpiece where you pick the alcohol of your choice and tell them if you like a drink more fruity, refreshing, sweet or sour and they make you something unique! It was amazing! The food was absolutely incredible and at a good price point; especially for the portion sizes and quality of food. We ordered the mushroom risotto, duck confit poutine, meat pie and mango sorbet. Each dish was truly incredible! Plus the service there was amazing! We will absolutely be back and highly recommend
I am just finishing dessert as I write this review. The food is absolutely incredible and could not be happier with the service. Very kind, professional, and attentive staff. I am so full!
Great cocktails, cool menu awesome atmosphere
Marybn Frank you for a good time. Very warm accommodations Xoxox
I ate dinner here on a Thursday evening with my wife. The food and service were exceptional. My wife had the game hen, which was a whole flattened hen. I recommend substituting the frites with the brussel sprouts, as my wife did, if you are more health conscious. I had the sausage board, which had 3 sausages containing different game meat, braised cabbage and potatoes. None of the food was greasy - on the contrary, everything was delicious and well presented. The cocktails are also amazing. We enjoyed the live guitar. The owner visited our table, which was appreciated. The server was friendly and attentive. The vibe is really cool with the stone walls and wine barrels. One of the coolest places in Hamilton. We need more places like this. Ill definitely be returning. Take a taxi so you can enjoy more than one cocktail !
Amazing atmosphere, staff where very humble! Great place to try something new and different. The cocktails where incredibly delicious!
We went to this establishment Saturday March 12th 2022. We were in town for the Heritage Classic. We did not have a reservation and Frank greeted us with open arms and made room for us to get some dinner. Frank took the time to learn all 4 of our names and made it clear that he remembered them as well. That was impressive and is quality that is very under-rated. Our waitor Nick was fabulous! He told us stories about the building itself along with what the restaurant is trying to achieve with its menu. The food did not disappoint either! All their sausages are made in house and are very delicious! We had a fantastic evening and again Id like to thank Frank and Nick for the welcoming accommodations!
We went here for my sons 21st birthday. Everything was superb! The drinks, the food, the atmosphere and the service were amazing. Brothers Grimm is a gem and we cant wait to go back. Thank you for making our evening so memorable!
The exquisite menu was fantastic, The atmosphere was warm, inviting and very romantic, and the hostesses were the best. The food was excellently presented with great care and flavors were beyond excellent. The seating was very comfortable and quiet and charmingly elegant. Great care was taken in the design and finishes and it shows.
Great atmosphere, amazing food, highly recommend. Shout out to Mary for wonderful service
Excellent service. Nice cocktail menu and food was well thought out and executed. Highly recommended.
Excellent. Top notch.
Extrodinary Fun place to get your meat on. Eclectic menu was a pleasant surprise. Interesting history in this venue... Check it out.
Our favourite place!! We love the atmosphere - warm and cozy with all the brick/stone and wine/whisky barrel decor. The staff is incredibly friendly and professional. And the food !!! Spectacular!! The sausage board is our favourite but everything has such incredible favours and textures. Well done! Everyone needs to try this place!
Excellent service from the moment we walked in the door. Great atmosphere, perfect place for a nice date night or celebration. We tried the game meat charcuterie board and it was absolutely delicious. The staff were attentive and great conversationalists. Highly recommend a visit.
Bold food, great ambience and exemplary service. My kind of place.
FABULOUS FOOD! FABULOUS SERVICE! FABULOUS VIBE! We just had the most unique dining experience at this speak-easy cellar style restaurant. Great place to celebrate something special and perfect for an intimate gathering with friends. Our server Nick and the GM Frank made us feel right at home. They made perfect meal suggestions and they were spot on with their advice! They had us laughing the night away. The food was gorgeous! Beautifully presented and equally as delicious...the Chef and crew really know their stuff! I will crave their mushroom risotto and the chocolate torte until the end of time. We will definitely be back! Lastly, if youre looking for a unique venue for a special event, they do them too! Im an Event Planner and I would 100% book this type of venue for a rehearsal dinner, birthday party, small wedding reception or work function. Your guests will certainly remember their experience at Brothers Grimm for sure!
Amazing dining experience. The food is some of the best we ever had.
The service, the food, the ambiance was top notch! The steak frites was excellent and Im definitely coming back to try the cassoulet.
Amazing customer service and vibe. Everyone from the host Frank to the server. Our food was delicious. Definitely we will be back
hi i had the cornish hen and my girlfriend had the yellow tuna and ITALIAN CAULIFLOWER FRITTERS and chocolate cake Great service from the staff and exquisite food from the kitchen. hands goes out to Peter And Frank the owners and waitress Mary they make you feel like family very nice place to eat i would recommend them 100%
Great service, wonderful full and nice ambiance! Thank you Erika!
Wonderful hospitality and service, friendly staff who get to know you, a mixologist who makes fantastic food, great atmosphere (lovely stories and fixtures throughout the restaurant), and delicious food. What more could you ask for in a lovely night out? Their Chefs Fish Special (tuna on crispy rice with a mango sauce) and Steak Frites were amazing! I definitely need to plan another night out here again.
The best Risotto. Farm to fork done to perfection.
Amazing food, great service (thanks Nick), and a unique/Amazing atmosphere.
Wonderful atmosphere! The staff is warm and engaging, starting at the host stand when we enter and ending with anyone we passed by on our way out. Our bartender/ server was super friendly, the food was absolutely delicious and well worth its price tag . We will definitely return.
Excellent food and great atmosphere. Service is friendly. For awhile we thought we were in France. Thanks. We will be back.
Beautiful place! Atmosphere is very nice. Food and service is outstanding! Will be back again for sure
Had the absolute pleasure to finally hit Brothers Grimm for a belated bday dinner the other night. Service, ambiance and FOOD were all over the top. Duck confit poutine, Duck Cassoulet and Elk pie were fantastic. As people w wine backgrounds, we also loved the list! Thanks so much and hope to see you all again soon:)
I highly recommend getting both the cauliflower app and the risotto main, even if you are not vegetarian. Our server, Mary, was very sweet and attentive, and never let my water glass go empty. The atmosphere is also very nice. Vegetarian options: Cauliflower appetizer and mushroom risotto main are both fantastic
Such an amazing place. My husband found this place accidentally and had a such a great experience! Everything was great, the food, the atmosphere, and of course, the service. We had a pleasure meeting the owner who was very hospitable. Definitely will be coming back again!
Fantastic place, cozy, quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Was our first time there for family dinner, so the food and drinks were amazing!! Our server Nick was so friendly, polite and very helpful, thank you for the amazing service!!!
Loved the atmosphere, the food was amazing. Duck confit poutine was perfect. I will be back!! This place is a hidden gem.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, excellent service. Would return and recommend
Amazing!! Super cool place!! You know from the moment you approach the street door, to descending the ornate iron stairs, down to a room done in old stone and wood caskets, that you re in for an incredible experience. Fabulous history to the building. Nick and Erika were out of this world friendly and attentive. Best drinks, unique menu, classy without feeling restrictive. Such a genuine vibe to the restaurant. I will be back 100%. Prices were reasonable for what you get. Restaurant and washrooms were spotless. Feels like you re deep within a olde European wine cellar!
Amazing risotto and friendly staff. Enjoyable ambiance
Great atmosphere and service!
I love it
Wonderful experience! The boyfriend and I were in Hamilton for the weekend and I found this place online. Absolutely loved the atmosphere and vibe the moment I walked in. We ordered the sausage board, steak and frites and the briar rose cocktail. Everything tasted fantastic! Flavours, portion, presentation, all great!
A wonderful time at this beautiful restaurant. A very European feel to the menu and environment. Food was incredible!
Had an anniversary dinner there with my boyfriend for its romantic atmosphere. Both of us really enjoyed the dinner, super delicious, excellent service, couldn t ask for any better. After we paid, they treated us a nice and cute mango dessert, very tasty again. We would definitely visit again for more special occasions.
amazing a must try!!! steak was sooo good, the shrimp excellent the service was top notch and my service dog loved it too
Me and my husband went for our anniversary. We had a few restaurants we reviewed and picked Brothers Grimm based on the great reviews. Not sure what some ppl were raving about, wasnt all that good. Table service to bar service was average. Prices are way too high for what you get.. And really what made me want to write a review is the fact that this restaurant added an 18% tip to our bill. I think ppl have forgotten a tip is a gesture, a thank you. I always tip but for it to be added to my bill rubbed me the wrong way. Plenty of restaurants in Hamilton-wont be going back here. We went August 26th.
Excellent food with terrific staff. I went with my boyfriend to redeem a prize he won in a golf tournament and we were not disappointed! Everyone there was great; from the host, to our server, and even the proprietor who stopped by! You definitely get a great experience for the price you pay.
Brothers grim is a very interesting bistro, very chic and rustic vibes with it being a basement cellar with exposed brick and barrel decor. The menu is fantastic with European roots and French as well as Spanish influences, they definitely nail down the taste and presentation with authenticity. Definitely need to go back and try the wild sausage board as that seemed to be a popular choice amongst patrons.
Arrived with my husband for our reservation on our wedding anniversary to be seated at a table for 6. Took them 10 mins to figure out why. Then got seated right by the kitchen and entrance in a high traffic area. Server didn t know who had which section & 2 of them tried to take our order at different times. They ran out of many drinks and dishes we had ordered with the local brewery down the street? Appetizers were good, but cold. Took 2 hours for our food to arrive and it was cold :( not only that tasteless and overcooked. The couple beside us left cash for their drinks and left after only receiving one entree that was also cold and overcooked. Atmosphere was incredible and server was friendly but even he knew things weren t right that night. I could see the confusion going on in the kitchen when the place was PACKED but not a single customer had meals. Shouldn t have had to pay for our meals (they really were awful) but I hope this place only had one bad night. $250+ was far too much to pay for something less than our skills at home. It wasn t the servers fault but he didn t ask if we enjoyed it, it was that bad!
My husband and I went to this amazing chic restaurant last night. The atmosphere is amazing as well as the food. The restaurant was really busy yet they handled everyone amazing. The cocktails we ordered were fabulous and the appetizers not to mention. We had to wait a bit for our main course but that is expected anywhere when there is a full house. The servers were very attentive to us as we waited. The food was out of this world! The flavours that explode in your mouth with every bite is always worth the wait! I highly recommend this restaurant. It s a diamond in the heart of Hamilton!
We had high hopes, and so reserved for our anniversary dinner. Food was good (though heavy on the salt). But service was a series of failures. We arrived with reservations but had to wait for our table to be cleaned. Waited some time to order food and drinks but the server had to ask clarification twice after taking our order. An hour passed before our appetizers came. Our wine order was lost and never came until I flagged the server and re-ordered. (This is after 45 minutes of the server coming by and refilling our water while we waited for our appetizers. They never noticed in all that time). I saw my order sit at the kitchen for almost 10 minutes before it was brought out, while the kitchen staff repeatedly rang the ready bell. I know everyone is short-staffed these days, but these all felt avoidable. And disappointing for what should have been a special night out.
The hidden gem of Hamilton dining. Fabulous, creative food, super cool location and ambience, great service. Highly recommended.
Atmosphere and dinner 5 star. Plates are unique but to unstable.
Great atmosphere and great food! The wild boar sausage was seriously some of the best sausage I ve ever had and the Brussel sprouts were a healthy yet tasty appetizer. If I had anything to critique it would be that things were a tad salty but amazingly well put together regardless. We need more places like this in Hamilton!
Absolutely beautiful decor. Can t believe we did not find it sooner. Food was not to my liking but as it was more on the wild side . If you love Cornish hens, wild game sausage and duck you will love it. Unfortunately I do not so I had a hard time choosing my meal which ended up being steak and Frits. Not the best I have had but then again that is not there specialty. Glad we tried it because the atmosphere alone was worth it. This is a late posting as we went in February and I missed posting it then. Parking: Metered street parking and local parking lots nearby. Wheelchair accessibility: Long flight of stairs to this basement restaurant, so no, not wheelchair accessible.
I loved this place. The food was really good and the atmosphere was very nice. I would go back for the sausage and french fries alone. Delicious! There are some fancy drinks that they have there too where they use smoke on them that is definitely worth checking out.
Really wanted to like this place. Brought my in law to try to impress and it ended up being the opposite. Long wait time for food. Got drunk order wrong. Horribly undercooked and small steak (for $45). Was a big disappointment. They said they have an entire new staff and that caused all the problems. 2 stars only because service was good and they comped a lot of the errors to fix it. Vibe was good too otherwise. Very unfortunate Really wish the experience was better but nothing to recommend here unfortunately.
I wanted to love this place. It had everything we were looking for: great atmosphere and even better menu. But unfortunately the food and service fell flat. I had family visit from out of town and my husband and I wanted to impress, but service was lacking (they forgot my brothers drink and served him the wrong beer). Food was over an hour wait. Luckily, my hen was delicious, however my brothers steak was a huge disappointment (comparable to a steak you would get at a cheap diner) we sent it back and his whole meal was comped because the staff knew they messed up. They said it was because they have a whole new crew working the kitchen, however Ive seen this excuse is a common trend amoungst other reviews. A very disappointing experience and unfortunately would not recommend.
Ambience, setting, bartender/guy who brought wine, and food were INCREDIBLE. That said, the hostess and server detracted so much from the experience we would not return. Rushed away from table twice before ordering cocktails, forgot bottle of wine, and interrupted conversations to ~refill~ full glasses of water. To clarify, we left 10 minutes before our reservation ended - it was made clear we could not stay longer and we completely understand that. The service during our reserved time did not meet our expectations.
Oh wow. What a nice hidden gem. The downstairs atmosphere is so neat and different. The food was so great. Went thier for a date night and it was perfect.
Love the ambience of this place. Food was off the charts good Cocktails are to die for! Such a beautiful and unique space
Extremely busy and loud. Its all in the timing I guess. Service was good and decor and atmosphere lovely ( better if not so loud ). Steak and lobster was not the way to go unfortunately. Lobster undercooked and steak sinewy. Should have tried their specialized dishes. In their defense it was an extremely busy night and time with parties happening. Appetizers were delicious tho. It was my birthday dinner and I had hoped for more. A thank you for the birthday dessert.
Table of 4 visited a few weeks ago. TERRIBLE experience. We were seated in an unpleasant area under an open staircase. My husband pulled out his chair to sit and there was a dirty plate on the chair. We ordered 2 appetizers (one requested without cheese as she has a dairy allergy), it arrived with cheese on it. We ordered the hen, 2 steak frites and 1 steak and lobster dish. All 3 steaks were SEVERELY under cooked. Our guest was pregnant and requested medium well on her steak (as per medical advice/safety) and they were rare, almost blue. We sent back 2 of the dishes to be cooked further and 15 minutes later they returned cold and still extremely undercooked. My guests did not eat the steak and figured it would be best to take home and cook further the next day. The server asked if everyone was happy and we explained they re still raw. She then cleared the table with the 2 full steaks remaining on the boards and they got thrown out. So we paid approx $50 x 2 plates for fries . At this point I was expecting a manger to visit the table but that did not happen. The server offered a free drink or dessert to compensate but we weren t interested in spending more time or money at this point in the evening. They removed $10 off the bill of almost a $350 tab I understand things happen but I do not feel the staff or management dealt with this appropriately I DO NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Came here to celebrate my partners birthday and it was amazing! Attentive and friendly service, delicious food and cocktails. We had the Sausage Board and Chicharron, both perfectly cooked and tasty. Complimentary dessert was a nice addition. Thank you for making our night!
Celebrated a milestone birthday at Brother s Grimm Bistro and it was great. The staff took such good care of us and made sure the night was extra special (thanks Nick!). The space is really amazing with the arched brick ceiling and old stone walls, and the food was fantastic. Everything we had was great, but I have to highly recommend trying the risotto in the Parmesan bowl. It was SO GOOD. Whether you re celebrating a milestone event, or just stopping by for a drink at the bar, this is a place to check out for sure.
What a great time at a great establishment with amazing food! See you again soon for sure. Many thanks
A super cool, trendy, restaurant. The food was delicious. My favorite item on the menu was the Ceviche!! We celebrated my wifes birthday here and had a great time. I didnt have the best communication when trying to plan the event. I asked to get on the phone because I had further questions but didnt receive a call from the events coordinator so that was a shame. Other than that this place is definitely worth checking out. The atmosphere is unique and makes for great pictures.
Cool vibe, great customer service, cheese skirt in the Caesar salad was a nice touch, Cassoulet is definitely worth sharing, sausage board, Steak and pot pie were also good.
Beautiful restaurant, with absolutely great food. If you re looking for a nice restaurant to have with your friends or family, this is the spot. The owners and staff are by far the best part of this restaurant. My friends and I ate together, and the owner came over and spoke to us, which was a really nice encounter. He had so much passion for his restaurant and his story is amazing. My only advice, the online menu is different than the actual menu. Just double check before making a reservation.
So wonderful to try foods I wouldnt normally try. Cozy atmosphere. Maybe a few pictures needed and candles to add to the ambience. Love loved it
Wonderful experience! Food was delicious and staff was incredibly friendly. Loved the live music! We will be back!
Food, service and atmosphere was great. The masking by staff could have been better, and no one in the open kitchen was masked at all.
