10 Cannon St E, Hamilton, ON L8L 1Z5, Canada
Counter-serve joint with an ever-changing selection of elevated soups, plus burgers & other fare.
Unfortunately, 2 out of 4 of our orders had errors. Bringing us a half sandwich when i ordered whole and a large soup when i ordered small. They also ran out of one soup so asked me to change an order. The burger was small but good, fries were a good size and well made, soups were delicious and I highly recommend the tomato tortellini. I DO NOT recommend the grill cheese. They were dry and had only one slice of cheese, a lot of bare bread. Nothing ooey or gooey about them. I make them better at home. We'll return for the soup and fries.
Fantastic soups and some of the best sandwiches anywhere in Hamilton! Well prepared and very filling! Good service, cool atmosphere, good value for the price. We enjoy eating here!
I Ordered take out of their fruits and nuts salad but when it was half empty when I opened it. Perhaps eat in store if you want a full sized item. For the few bites that I had it was really delicious, I just wish there was more for the price I paid.
Fist time. But not the last. I can’t wait to taste everything on the menu. We had a classic burger bankcock loaded fries and soup. I love the different healthy options with the soup.
Their soups and sandwiches are really good and fresh. I would recommend the Beef Barley. The soup is really hot, so be patient and let it cool down
Cozy place with a long list of soup and sandwich choices. A rare place with almost 8 soup options. Soups were delicious and come with toppings and sides. The soups came in 3 sizes ranging from 6-10 dollars. Sandwiches were between 4-6 dollars for a half sandwich. The prices are a little high but the food was delicious. Would recommend stopping by.
Great place with amazing food and service. Every bite is loaded with flavour. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous and will fill you up. Just delicious. Wish you were in KW area.
I was hesitant about this place at first but still decided to give it a try. We ordered the Moroccan soup and the peanut chicken soup and it was absolutely incredible! Both soups had their distinct flavours which was simply amazing. The french oinion grilled cheese was a great pairing with both soups. 😋🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Love this place and have been going here for awhile, just realized they use margarine instead of real butter wish there was an option to pick
The best soups in town!
Our whole office is obsessed with this place and we order here at least once a week. Friendly staff and take out is super efficient.
Love this place. Great food, friendly service, great value for the money.
Sandwiches (I tried 2) were good, but didnt blow my mind. The gochujang beef soup was excellent tho, and not something I see on menus a lot. It was also very fast, which I appreciated.
Amazing. Sandwiches and soup are incredible
Not a lot of seating, very dark. Soup is good, but sides are just okay.
Used to love it but feeling like the quality has gone downhill. The grilled cheese I just got had nearly nothing in it.
A Hamilton institution. Everything is tasty. The recent $10 hoagie was a solid pick-me-up. Nice staff, always accommodating when my bladder is going to explode after driving to the city from Toronto.
I always get my soup here and I always love it. Today I ordered their french onion grilled cheese and was thoroughly disappointed. I essentially received bread. This is comical and the restaurant should be ashamed that this showed up at my door.
The food here is great! If they get your order right that is! The past few times we ve ordered they ve either gotten our burger toppings wrong or given us the wrong soup. For example twice now they ve given us cheese on a burger when we didn t order it. What if we were lactose intolerant? Or they ve given us a random soup we didn t order. Why not call us if you ran out? Or just refund the soup instead of one we didn t want? It s so hit and miss when ordering that we re not sure we even want to order anymore despite how good the food can be.
They have great soups and sandwiches. We ate a meal with our daughter and it was so good we got soups to go.
Made an order through Skip the Dishes and was ripped off because they didnt turn off the ordering option for the day which is Thanksgiving Monday. This is absolutely disgraceful. I cant get my money back from skip since its all AI and no actual people to msg to fix this mistake. Not only am I grieving but now Im starving too. Absolutely disgraceful to not turn off the ordering option.
Have gotten takeout here a few times now and its always good. The soup is always very hot and fresh and the sandwiches go well with them. The tomato is great and the french onion sandwich is excellent.
Parking: Next to restaurant, about 10-15 spots. Kid-friendliness: They welcome everyone. Wheelchair accessibility: They have it.
The people who work here are so so nice and the soup is the best. So are the grilled cheese. Cant resist.
The BEST soups and sandwiches. We got our order to go. Prompt service and still piping hot when we got home. Wonderful, cheerful staff. This is why we keep coming back!! Thank you all! Food
Looked forward to coming here saw it on tv. Not a great value for what was offered I got one piece of meat in my soup wow taste was ok.
Its my favorite burger place. They also offer a variety of different fresh soups. The staff is always friendly. I travel a long way to get to this place, but I definitely feel its worth the drive.
Foods always been on point here. Never have had a bad dining experience. Everything is super delicious. We had a mix up today with our food being ordered at the wrong location. The manager for this location made it super easy for us to get our food and redid it for us. Very thankful for that.
The chicken posole verde is absolutely delicious, Im currently enjoying my order and wish Id gotten the large size. The soup Burnt Tongue was making in 22 while I was pregnant that was served over a scoop of rice still lives in my head rent-free, I cant remember what it was called, but I hope it returns this fall or winter. Bummer that the Portuguese bun isnt a side option any longer, but I get it-- margins are especially tight now in the restaurant industry. Im still going to keep coming back
It s small and nice place to get soup and sandwiches. They have great selection of soups and they all taste delicious.
Always enjoy the different monthly vegetarian lentil soups the burnt tongue has to offer! My go to!
Quaint little spot with delicious burgers and tasty soups!
Great soup and sandwich! Delicious and filling Vegetarian options: Vegetarian soup. Food : 5/5 |
I enjoyed an excellent limited-edition shrimp bisque at my most recent visit. I have been to the Burnt Tongue on Cannon several times over the past two months and I have always enjoyed the soups. The menu changes frequently, which provides new soups to try regularly. The sandwiches are okay, but not necessary in my view. I recommend a large bowl of soup instead.
Ordered the tomato tortellini soup with their original grilled cheese and it was absolutely delicious. Great pairing! Will definitely be returning for more!
I used to come here once a week for lunch when I worked at a bank nearby. Their soups are incredible but my favourite were the kale Caesar salad and the fruit, nut & goat cheese salads. I think about these menu items often. Best salads I have ever eaten, perfect portion sizes, healthy, fresh! To date I still think about them. If I lived closer I would still be visiting once a week.
This was one the first spots that my wife and I ate at when we made it to Canada. Thank you for a great experience and great food
I really think this type of establishment doesnt get enough credit. Great food at decent prices and good customer service goes a long way. Definitely a staple in the hammer.
Stopped by an hour before closing time and were disappointed that only 2 soups were available. We ordered the Bangkok fries and tuna melt sandwich. The fries were soggy almost immediately on arrival, and the tuna sandwich was very basic in regular white sliced bread. Tuna was ok. Overpriced for what we received.
Best grilled cheese Ive ever had in my life. (French Onion)
Walked in at 710. Most options were not available although store closed at 8. Was disappointed
Amazing food as always at all locations. I would like to highlight my customer service experience. Feb 28th, 2024 : ordered a delivery through uber. The wrong order was picked up by mistake. They were very busy that evening and that is a common mistake to happen, no huge deal. We called the location and spoke with the manager that was working that evening. Unfortunately i cant remember their name but they were absolutely fantastic to deal with. Tried calling uber on our behalf, was very understanding and apologetic. Once we got a refund from uber and reordered our meal it included a nice note, our old order and fresh order. Just wanted to say that employee is wonderful at their job and turned a small mistake into a wonderful customer experience.
Best soup!
Always the best choices of soup and the sandwiches are amazing too. Love to stop by here when I m feeling some comfort food. Service is fast and the workers are very polite. Parking: Very limited parking but it isn t usually full Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheel chair accessible
First time in here I just recently moved to Hamilton. I read a few reviews about the vibe in there and the workers being rude. I did not get that whatsoever. Actually I felt like they were very very nice and I m definitely gonna be back.! And the food in amazing !!!!!!!!!!! Definitely give them a try you won t regret it.
The Connon St burger was delicious and the soup excellent, but severely over cooked fries, some of which were actually burnt, spoiled our Saturday visit.
I didnt eat here.My neice bought 2 soups and brought them home. They were amazing . I highly recommend them .
Soups are the best
Delicious as always
Great friendly staff, they make the food taste better. You can see happy people here. Ill be back soon. Food : 4/5
There isn t a soup here that I ve tried that I didn t instantly fall in love with. Their French onion grilled cheese is also to die for. Highly recommend checking out any of their locations!
Was passing by and stopped in after not having been here in years and it was just as delicious as I remembered the very reasonable pricing and friendly service. Glad I visited!
Great soups
Used to love coming to this location, was a staple in the James st North community. However after seeing the staff on their phones streaming yes I m not kidding they were either FaceTiming or streaming somebody during service I told myself I d never come back and it s going on almost two years now. Many years ago this wouldn t have ever happened regime change comes with a dip in quality I suppose
The chicken Sriracha peanut soup was decent and flavourful. The cream of leek was not even edible and not good at all. Will not be returning. Prices are high, staff was not to helpful. Cozy dining area Food : 3/5
One of the best burger and fries in the city.
Very relaxed and low key kind of atmosphere. The staff were polite and helpful. They didnt have our first choice (veg burger) which was a bummer. However, the food we got was fantastic! Kale Caesar was great, the dill pickle fried delicious and the butternut squash soup also! My kids (9, 7 and 7) recommend!
I will start by saying the food is amazing, the customer service is something to be desired. My coworkers and myself ordered lunch for pick up all at the same time. One was ready upon arrival(it was only a soup) the second one was about 3 minutes later(soup and 1/2 a grilled cheese) my order however was not even started. The young lady at the cash called out for my order to be started upon arrival. Needless to say she called it out 2 more times and still nothing as my coworkers lunch is getting colder. She went to the back to start my order herself. 15 minutes later I left(my order was soup, a grilled cheese, a French onion grilled cheese and fries). My fries were cold because the were dropped early the apple was missing from my order and a bun was missing from the soup and grilled cheese order. I also must mentioned the very condescending attitude from the employee because I was upset about my service. On another visit we had pre-ordered andwent in to pick up. I waited in line for my turn, a food delivery person cut the line to pick up food. I said to him that he had to wait in line the employee said that he could pick up the food. My order was also on the counter yet I had to wait!! Why is a delivery service being treated better than a customer in store. Again the food is great the service is terrible.
The food was great but the staff left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I went for the bogo deal today and was told I could Only have the same for both bowls. Big deal but after waiting 15 minutes they realized they forgot my order. I asked if I could get 2 different soups for the inconvenience (which were the same price). The manager was standoffish about explaining they were clearing old stock out. After I made a few valid points she just walked away because she didn t want to deal with the conversation. The guy was cool and low key knew it was b.s. , but the 2 women definitely need a refresher in customer service.
Food is amazing, fast service, but seating is meh. Would recommend takeout. Soups are awesome.
Food is great ,regular visits for soup and hamburger.
Super friendly staff, and good food for a fair price! Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie friendly options, tomato tortellini soup was really good!
I tracked it here in the rain one day last week just to warm up with some jalapeño squash soup - and I don t regret it one bit. They always have a good selection of soups for a very reasonable price. One thing I didn t get was the bun that went with the soup and I didn t realize until I got back to my office, but regardless, I would journey back here for another soup any day of the week!
The Beef Barley Soup brought me back home to mamma.
We travel one hour just to eat this soup. Its a must try! So fab.
I wish they had more lactose-free options or vegan, but the soups are delicious. The tortellini tomato is to die for.
Dill pickle fries!!! Get some now!!!! Mmmmm Indian cauliflower lentil soup yummmmmm finally a place making homemade yummy food I am in loveeee
Fantastic place! Great soup and sandwiches. Everyone I know who has eaten here raves about the food. I like the decor/atmosphere and the service has always been friendly and accommodating. Location is great! Thanks Burnt Tongue! :D
The OG location and the best spot! Soups are a must try for ANYONE who visits the Hammer!
Great Unique Soups! Amazing loaded fries and Sandwiches Ya Gotta eat here! Vegetarian options: Lots of Vegan options...
Sure, they ll sell you other staples like burgers, fries, and a grilled cheese, but you gotta go for the soup!! Nothing comes close, they offer a huge variety, and, as far as I know, theyre all made from scratch. I dont think you could find more flavourful soups anywhere!
Super awesome place for a great homemade soup and more top notch food and great staff
Great service. Good food and atmosphere.
Way overpriced
Great price on a good meal. Big fan of a smaller soup with half sammy Food
EDIT 3 YEARS LATER: This used to be my favourite restaurant but the food quality has really gone down hill. I will now tell you AVOID the kale ceaser as I haven t had a good one from them for the last 6 or so times I ve come. The dressing isn t the same and the kale is always wilted. The soups are really hit and miss and lack flavour. I understand the business has grown significantly and therefore has lost that local gem feeling and is more of a soup mill. Favorite restaurant ever! Ive never been disappointed. Sometimes youll look at the menu and think you wont like anything on it but Ive always been pleasantly surprised ! Get the Kale Ceaser salad ;)
Great food!!!! And friendly staff.
Most excellent.
Quick service, reasonable price, delicious food. Could not be improved!
Food was decent
We absolutely loved the burnt tongue. Quick service and amazing food! We got a buffalo chicken grilled cheese, chicken tortilla soup, and the dill fries. So good!!!!
Delicious grilled cheese and soup!
Love the soups
love the soups and the portions a lot. food is quick and good quality. disappointing that the vegan sandwich was limited time and now there s no side option other than fries. will continue to support bc i enjoy the soups but hopefully they step it up eventually. it s 2023. Staff is not friendly
Soup was delicious. Bun was chilled but I thought it made a great companion to the soup. I think these are good to go as the venue was extremely dark and un inviting with limited seating.
Honestly really good soup for a fairish price. A small soup is $7 and comes with a bun (or carrots or an apple). The potato leek soup was perfectly creamy with some crisps on top. It was fast (less than 10 mins) and the service was friendly. The bun was really cold, which actually turned out to be delicious with the soup.
This place is always my go to for my soup cravings! The coconut lentil and potato leek is absolutely amazing, the place itself is always clean and the employees are so friendly!
Ordered the jerk soup. Only had 1 small bite of meat in it. everything else was carrots. Was not satisfied.
Ordered a small creamy tomato and tortellini soup and a half buffalo chicken sandwich for lunch today. I hate tomato soup, always have but whenever it s on a menu, I try it out and I always regret it. It s almost like a game I play with myself. So when I saw tomato soup on the menu, I knew what I was going to order and this time, I m so glad that I did! It was so creamy, a little cheesy, the tortellini was perfect. Just so so good. The buffalo chicken sandwich though was another story. It was dry, mashed together, had zero kick, and the texture and presentation was very unpleasant. I don t know if I ll give their sandwiches another chance but I know I ll be back for the tomato soup!
Ordered creamy tomato tortellini, creamy dill pickle, curry coconut lentil and cabbage roll soups (all medium), butternut squash bisque (small), half of a French onion sandwich and a deluxe burger with cheese (each soup came with a side, we chose carrots and an apple) To be honest, I m not a soup connoisseur by any means. I grew up with Campbells Cup O Soup with extra egg noodles. So soup is always a surprise to me when it s good. Not bashing Campbells, it can clear your cold on the best of days! Anyway, back to Burnt. Their soup is top notch. Their choice of components in the soup is spot on. Their flavours are excellent. The soup is smooth when it needs to be, and has bite and texture where it should be. Their sandwich and burger were nice additions as well, with the flavours matching the soups, or to have them on their own. We didn t have a best soup because they were all great for different reasons.
Amazing soups. Delicious
We got the tomato soup and it was delicious. Ill go back for more. The staff were really nice and helpful. It didnt take long for the order. Id go back and recommend to others. Parking: In a little store on a one way street. Theyre have a little parking lot.
Was visiting the area for a little vacation and when looking for lunch, my internet search led me here (I love soup and I am a sandwich snob). The food was out of this world and the service was lovely, very nice people working there. It was a really small space unfortunately, but we were lucky to arrive at a time where there happened to be a table.
Delicious soups with an amazing changing selection, fresh crispy fries with tasty dips, and very lovely staff!
Pricey. The food is ok. Seems like a busy place, so if youre new to the area and feel like spending more than you should, knock yourself out.
The soup and grilled cheese is amazing here. Theres a nice selection of sandwiches as well. When we make our orders we are never disappointed.
Love the burnt tounge I always say there arent enough soup restaurants. We dont go often but it never disappoints. Just recently had the Buffalo chicken sandwich there it was so good such a nice mix of creamy and buffalo, cant stop thinking about it!
Taos Google Restaurant Reviews Good soup and bread. I would highly recommend the tomato soup with cheese. Also had the Jamaican soup which was also alright but Id say the original tomato was best. Grilled cheese sandwich also a must when eating the soups. Food: 4.5/5. Service: 5/5. Atmosphere: 5/5. FINAL SCORE 4.5/5.
Not sure what is going on at this location. The website is incorrect, my online order was cancelled without explanation. I tried to call to find out why my order was cancelled. I ended up driving here to re-place my order. There are only 2 people working here today. They are obvioulsy overwhelmed. This is very odd for this place as we have been coming here for lunch for years I hope ownership sees this and remedies the problem as it would be a shame to lose this restaurant
Just had Burnt Tongue for the first time today. Sandwich was excellent and the Loaded Baked Potato soup was to die for. I just finished my bowl and already want to go back to pick up another. Highly Recommended.
The potato and leek soup is one of my favorites. We have also ordered the small burgers and grilled cheese. Looking forward to our next visit back.
Great taste, great ambience, great friendly staff! We go there often and they never disappoint. All the locations are almost equally good, taste is consistent. Great job, Founders!!
Order at the counter and theyll bring you your order. Food is absolutely fantastic. Theres only a few tables in the Cannon near James Street location. Pokemon players can take down a gym while waiting and theres plenty of stops and other gyms within a short walk. Vegan and other dietary regimes are able to be accommodated.
My friend brought me here while i was visiting from out of town. He suggested one of the kale salads and it was the most delicious and flavorful salads Ive had in a long time. Very cozy and friendly attentive staff. Ill definitely be back!
Parking: Small lot on side of building - space limited Food
Amazing! I had the tomato tortellini soup with basil pesto combined with the buffalo chicken sandwich. Perfect for a cold rainy day. A little pricey but I get it. The food is made with extra love.
Everything we had was incredible! Amazing spot for lunch.
One of my favorite places for lunch, absolutely amazing! Been coming here for years!
Doesnt get much better than a well crafted soup on a cold winter day. Excited to try the other locations, the take out I ordered yesterday was great.
My order was done quickly like normal, food was tasty like always .... whenever Im in Hamilton I always try and have lunch here ... the staff was also very friendly....
The best soup and french oniin grill cheese in the city
Yummy soup. Friendly staff
Fantastic food, great burgers and soups all at a very decent price.
Excellent customer service and mostly there soups are amazing. I had the masala soup and my hubby had the chunky beef soup and it was excellent and hot. Really burnt tongue.
I had the beef soup and 4oz hamburger Food was delicious would come back for more. Excellent customer service.
Soup and sandwiches were delicious and so flavourful. Staff were extremely kind and helpful and the restaurant was very clean. Definitely a place to go!
They live up to their fame. The soups are fantastic!
Very flavourful soups and sandwiches. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side ($28 for 2 small soups and one large pesto and cheese sandwich). Great place for lighter lunch if you want to leave room for dinner. They main point is their food is unique and tastey. Was not my first trip there and wont be my last.
All Hail the humble but mighty soup. Been coming here a long time, and with an ever changing menu of soups, youll always have something to order! Great soup, great service, great prices!
Great week spot. Opted to step out on a limb and try the dill pickle soup. Great choice, not as dill flavoured as I was sold (maybe I expected a real pucker experience) but very good. My side choice was a nice hearty dinner bun for dipping. Highly recommend this spot, especially on a cold winter day.
Good food, not ideal dine in atmosphere but food made up for that
This place is great! They are local and serve fresh seasonal food with ingredients that they buy from the Hamilton Farmers Market. Their soups change daily with a few regular ones in rotation. Their hamburgers (served only at Cannon and Locke) are like old-time grandparents hamburgers. Their grilled cheeses are delicious, and their fries wont disappoint. Ive only had one salad (the kale Ceasar), and it was pretty good. The service is also awesome. If you like soup and simple yet gourmet sandwiches, definitely head on over!
Their soup rate is 2.5 Considering the price and size i would do 2 star I got a pretty small container which they call Large for 10$ and you gotta pay extra for bread and they are selling crickets for 1$ for 1 pack a whole box is for 2$ and comes with 20 pack. Soups always come with bread anywhere you go. They are so cheap
Love the soup here. I go once a week for lunch. There grilled cheese is amazing too.
Always loved this place. Their soups are amazing , burgers are good. I used to love their Thai loaded fries but today the fried were swimming in the toppings . I couldnt eat them . Other than that this place is pretty good..just make sure you communicate with them.if you order the.loaded fries and want them to go easy on the sauces.
the most comforting of all comfort foods. and the most comfortable. the best menu, recipes, staff, design, amenities, of any casual kitchen in the new world. OG Cannon is my spot but youll do well on Locke South, King West, Dundas, or the inevitable TBT . Top Shelf + as Consistent as Cal Ripken. Suitable for solo, date, fam jam, picnic cheating, biz lunch, munchies, grandparents, omnivores, vegan, dairy or gluten avoiders, & grilled cheese aficionado. Hit your nearest Soup Cottage and prepare your senses for your new (or old) favourite zoops, burgs, freets, grylld cheaze, kayle seezars, and the occasional sweet like the incredible karit keyke eise creeme sannwych.
Food was good but average. Wasnt super impressed but good quality food
They really have great food and there service is the top on the line to.
Delicious soup. They were so flavourful and filling. The restaurant was very clean.
Absolutely Amazing highly recommend the Tortellini Soup ! Delicious
Great spot! the soups are to die for, so good!!
Always amazing soup, Ive never been disappointed. Dont know how they do it. Great little green chili cheeseburger too.
Had a soup here and a burger. The burger was good but wasnt unique just basic ingredients and quality beef. The soup didnt have much in it, it was like eating gravy not many chunks of meat/vegtables.
Been wanting to come here for a while. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the soup is great!
Tomato bisque was incredible.
This place has ruined all other soup for me. The flavors are amazing. Greatest soup on the planet.
when i entered the staff were literally making out in the kitchen, even though there was already a customer in there that could see them. employees were also just not welcoming, food was mid
Walked in and two of the staff were in the kitchen making out while there was already another customer in the restaurant. The service was cold and I was felt as if I was a bother to the staff because I was there just trying to eat. The food was good though!
Simply put, the best soup and burger I ve ever had. You have to try the chili cheese burger. Burnt Tongue would be my death row meal request. Don t recommend the clam chowder.
Consistently excellent. The soups are always fresh and delicious with interesting options to please all palates and dietary needs. The burger is one of the best in town and the Bangkok fries are addictive. Friendly and efficient service, super clean. Prices are very reasonable and the quality is always exceptional.
Great food!
First time visiting Ill be back to explore the menu. Only one vegan option which was very good and came with a bun. Servings could be beefed up a bit but like that it came with a tasty bun.
Amazing soups! Gotta try them all
Delicious, filling soup at bargain prices
Ok soup. Somewhat angry service.
Great soups, specially the Loaded Perogie, I had the medium size which was definitely enough for a male adult but I wish I had ordered the largest one. Here youll definitely receive more than you actually paid for.
We had the French Onion Sandwich with an order of regular fries. The sandwich was delicious! Loved the caramelized onions and cheese. The fries were plentiful. I thought we had made a mistake and ordered a large instead of a regular, the serving of fries was so large. The restaurant seemed well taken care of. The bulletin board displayed art created by the staff. Recommended! Parking: The restaurant is a storefront on Cannon Street so youll have to find a spot in the neighborhood.
Love the soup and the order at the counter style of place. Not fancy and that is the charm. Just good quality food, tasty, and unassuming. I go back often
Friendly staff and amazing food.
To prefix, I want to say that the staff at The Burnt Tongue have ALWAYS been great to deal with and accommodating. However, if you are a vegan, dairy free or have any dietary restrictions: AVOID THIS RESTAURANT Their system for indicating vegan items is inherently busted. Items are marked with a VVC which translates to being vegan and celiac friendly on their little ordering guide. With that said, they have a little asterisk (*) that says to check about daily specials on a dish.. or something along those lines. The signage is confusing as the asterisk doesn t say may change what dietary restrictions are accommodated by this dish. In my scenario, I ordered a soup marked as VVC but there was cheese in the toppings. Whoever thought that putting dairy in a dish SPECIFICALLY NOTED as being vegan shouldn t be allowed to add items to the menu. Again, the staff were fantastic at getting me a refund and courteous when on the phone. This doesn t excuse the fact that The Burnt Tongue is negligently and FALSELY advertising dishes as being vegan/dairy free when they are, in fact, not. I should not have to ask if a vegan option is actually vegan.. this is dangerous to people who have severe food allergies and grossly incompetent. I will not be returning until they can make the appropriate changes to the listing process for their menu items. I and advising friends and family to go elsewhere until that change is made, too.
My wife and I had lunch at The Burnt Tongue with our son today and we were a little disappointed. Our soup was barely warm when it was brought to our table. The flavour and soup quality as always was on point, but the temperature was not. We shared some grilled cheese and it was alright. We have had many excellent meals here over the years but today wasnt a great experience. We expected more out of a $50 lunch.
Soups and sandwiches are amazing
Love getting my lunch soups from here, such delicious flavours, all year round! Favourite one is the pork pozole rojo, for those who dont like anything spicy, this is not for you. And for those who love spicy its not crazy spicy, its a nice little kick. But the butternut squash (think its seasonal) and creamy mushroom soup are tied for second. Staff are friendly and helpful if you are looking to try something different. The menu shows whats vegetarian or not, and please, please mention before you order if you have any dietary restrictions, so they can appropriately suggest the right soups for you.
Had such a lovely experience during our first visit to Burnt Tongue this week. Amazing service and amazing food. We will definitely be back !
The first time I had this, it was because Burnt Tongue offered a free soup to hospital employees - I had no idea what to expect, not being from Hamilton and never hearing of them before. I have been back 4 times now and always recommend them to other nurses because their food is AMAZING and their prices are super reasonable. The soups are hearty and absolutely on point every time. I work in a team of 5 nurses who zoom call surgical patients at home and we order in every Sunday after payday. Today I recommended Burnt Tongue because our office is downright polar (rather than the usual temperature of colder than cold) and the weather is miserable outside. Not only did everyone rave about what they ordered, we all drooled over each others choices - our bellies are full and warm again (despite our icicle toes). Best part of it ? Our amazing doctor paid for it all as a job well done gift ! Thank you Burnt Tongue and Dr. S. Ofori!
Amazing Food Soup is the best
Amazing food with friendly staff and quick service! Also great prices and lots of options. I will be back
Great food with cool twists on traditional dishes. Soups are delicious.
I come here occasionally to get takeout for lunch and the food is always good. However, today I ordered soup and a kale caesar and when I pulled the caesar out of the bag, I noticed the box felt extremely light. There was a thin layer of kale covering the bottom of the box, and the rest was empty. I got 4 bites of salad out of the box (and I take small bites!). When I have ordered this before, it has been packed to the top of the box, so this was very disappointing when I m paying a sizeable amount for lunch + tip. While I enjoy eating here, I m not sure I m willing to risk paying ~$7 for 4 bites of kale again.
The make great burgers here , my 3rd time here , love the taste .
Tasty!
Favourite spot to grab lunch. For over 5 years Ive tried countless soups off their rotating menu and I have never been disappointed. Leo is a STAR of a human and we miss seeing him at the Cannon St location! However, the entire team is great, and the energy is always fun with their mix of nostalgic tunes pumping out of the kitchen (its a heck ya for me)! Dont miss the loaded dill fries... or just the fries in general - the curry ketchup and mayo are the bomb dot com. Thank you for existing, Burnt Tongue!!! Will you cater my future wedding?! LOVE YOU Mary
Awesome People and good food, great service.
Amazingly wonderful! The food was soooo good. Service was amazing. Felt like I was at my grandparents for dinner. So comforting. So delicious. So fresh. Definitely a must try! You wont regret it! My recommendation is the lasagna soup and the dill pickle fries. Exquisite!
A small cozy restaurant. Free parking. The food is amazing. Awesome staff. Highly recommended.
I had the tomato and tortellini soup and fries and was blown away by the deliciousness and flavour. Everything tastes like fresh and made from scratch. I never turn down an offer to eat there. 10 out of 10 would recommend!
Never had a bad dish here!
Just went here for lunch. After waiting 20 mins for my meal, I see the cook do something gross. My burger bun is lying on the table and he takes his phone out and cleaned it over top of my bun. Like pulled the cover off, cleaned the phone and cover over my bun. It was nasty. I took my soup and left the burger. To be fair, the lady behind the counter saw it and offered a refund. My lunch break was over so I just left. The soup is good. I do question the hygiene now, and will never go back.
Not sure why it took me so long to try this place, I was extremely impressed. I got the tomato tortellini soup with the french sandwich and both were amazing! My friend got the burger and a generous side of fries (seriously I thought he got a large) prices were very reasonable and the staff were very friendly and prompt.
Love that rustic place with some comfort food for everyday choices. Soups are nice and warming for the cold weather, sandwiches and burgers are great as well! Friendly staff and very reasonable prices as well. I will be a regular customer! Vegetarian options: Harrissa soup Parking: Designated parking for their customers
It was my first time trying this place. People working there are friendly. Soup + Sandwiches are also good. Will definitely be back! Parking: Easy to park behind the building.
The soup tasted decent. I got the large size soup, expecting to probably be enough to fill me up for two meals. This however was not the case. I ended up barely getting filled with it. Im disappointed I had to pay $11 for mediocre soup that was tiny in size.
Hot and delicious soups on a cold day. Fantastic! They have great flavours and reasonable prices. And filling too. I like their young and friendly staff. They are all the time energetic. Dont miss that great taste!
Had the pleasure of trying out this place for the first time a few weeks ago. At first I was unsure but Natasha and the staff made the experience easy and welcoming. The quality in the ingredients that go into their soups are second to none. We had there creamy tomato tortellini and the spicy west African peanut, both were very flavourful and tasty. I highly recommend anyone looking for a new place to try or soup lovers to give them a try. Thanks again for the fantastic service and tasty soup. The JP crew.
This is the best soup youll ever eat. The potato leek and roasted garlic soup is the yummiest soup Ive ever had but their hours are really bad. They are only open until 8pm which is NO GOOD for people who have to work in the evening. There have been SOOOO many times I wouldve gotten burnt tongue past 8:00pm but unfortunately, that is impossible. They would easily deserve 6 stars (yes, more than 5) if they didnt close so early. Their portions are tiny. I am a skinny girl and their large size does not come close to filling my hunger, its kind of pricey to not be full but their soup plus their fries is great if you got some extra spending money. Make sure to get the large otherwise youre just having a small snack. Also they often forget the bun that comes with your soup, so double check before you leave!!! Vegetarian options: Lots of their soups are vegetarian friendly! HUGE plus. Just stay open later!
Wonderful food, friendly service! Anything you order is going to come out hot and flavourful! At Burnt Tongue, they truly put such care into their craft.
