Had been looking forward to trying the Burnt Tongue for the first time. Decided to try the location on Locke Street. My soup was excellent. Not everyone enjoyed theirs. Tomato Tortellini had no tortellini? We were a group of 5 so the very cold back room was opened and was really uncomfortable. We just ate as fast as possible and left. Likely will not return as there are other spots on Lock to visit. In a nutshell: disappointing Parking: Side streets offer the best option.

Ordered online through Ubereats as we are intown for a tournament The order was prepared fast & efficient with delivery. I havent been here so i cant comment on the atmosphere. The food is delicious and arrived hot. I would comment that the smoked turkey soup looks abit like ham which I hope not as we dont eat pork. It would have been helpful if we had napkins with our order. Other than that I would order again if in town.

Definitely concerned about the air quality in this establishment. Very gross to look at while trying to enjoy a meal.

I like this place for the most part. This last visit was meh. I had the Smoked Turkey/Dijon soup (1 of only 2 GF options the day I visited), and it was not great. Potatoes were HUGE in there, more than a mouthful each. The smoked turkey meat actually tasted like hotdogs to me, and it was very peppery. Almost overwhelmingly peppery. And theyve changed their fries. They are thicker now and less crispy. Ive had many soups there that I do really enjoy, so Im sure Ill be back, but I wont get that Smoked Turkey soup again, and Ill probably skip the fries too Dietary restrictions: The Burnt Tongue is always very aware of dietary restrictions and the menu is always very clearly labeled so you know which soups are Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Vegetarian, Vegan, etc. As someone with a dietary restriction, its nice to have the choices clearly labeled and to feel safe when eating out!

Well I went there for an egg salad sandwich only to be told they were out , but they would have some the next day, not sure why but I needed to try this place so I got the Cubano sandwich and the garlic leek potato soup, omg sooooooo delicious, went back the day after and got an egg salad sandwich a egg salad grilled cheese(not bad), and the creamy tomato tortellini soup. Jacob was amazing for service and the food was awesome. I now know why I needed to go there.. I will be back for more.. both soups were vegetarian and Im not really the vegetarian type but gotdamned those soups were outstandingly good... Im just guessing by now that you understand why I will be going back time and time again.. to the cooks and staff of the Burnt Tongue keep the food and service as it is, its supercalifudgelistically outstanding

Incredible! The black bean burger is the best Ive ever had, and the fries are delicious. Had the gazpacho on a previous visit and loved it too! Service is fast and friendly, and the menu is super varied. Would strongly recommend! Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian and vegan soups and sandwiches, as well as a vegan black bean burger.

First time at The Burnt Tongue, food was very good. Variety of soups, sandwiches and specialty items to satisfy any palate. Staff was very helpful and insightful in helping to determine what to try for our first visit. Settled on the curry sweet potato and lentil soup *chef s kiss*, and the crab poutine (unique and delicious, made with fresh in-house cut fries, and you can really taste the difference). Can t wait to go back!

Ordered on skip this evening and I was MORE than impressed! Ive always heard such good things and have been recommended this place for years. My husband has been a chef in Hamilton for the last 30 years and is the pickiest eater Ive ever met. He ordered the chicken provolone sandwich and tomato tortellini soup. I have never in my 10 years of knowing this man, EVER seen him eat soup...he devoured the whole bowl! I got the tomato pesto sandwich and was very pleased. Youve now got 2 more regulars! Amazing job Burnt Tongue!

They have about 4-5 different types of soup and sandwiches as well as burgers. My favourite is the deluxe burger. Their staff are generally nice and quick with taking orders.

Service was great, guy working the front was super helpful. Soup was delicious, sandwich not so much. Soggy bread and the topping were lacking there was almost none on. Felt like two wet pieces of bread. Portion was smaller than expected given the price point. Would give it another shot possibly but just for the soups

I want to start off this review by talking about the service! At times, the service of a restaurant can make or break your experience at a restaurant. I don t think I ve ever experienced better service. The lady with the blonde hair went above and beyond for us! I have a nut allergy, so when I inquired about the dessert, the server wasn t 100% sure if it had nuts, so she called the owner to confirm. She was super kind and friendly to everyone that walked in! Her service alone made our experience at this restaurant better than 5 stars! Now for the food! We had the tomato jalapeño pesto sandwich with cheese and it was delicious and well balanced! The bread was crunchy and perfectly toasted, and the filling wasn t dry at all. Next, we had the French Onion sandwich, and it was again a 5/5! This was my favourite! The onions were caramelized just enough and again, it paired and balanced well with the cheese. Then, we had the deluxe burger with the secret sauce - it was also good. However, if we were to pick between the burger and the sandwich, we d go with the sandwiches! Lastly, we finished off with the carrot cake ice cream sandwich and just like everything else here, it was delicious! It tasted like fall in a cup! Def will come back!

I love the food here, its amazing and and I will keep ordering because I am addicted to the egg salad grilled cheese... I just wish they would include ALL TOPPINGS on delivery orders. If it says it comes with crispy onions, please send the crispy onions. (Its happened to me more than once).

I work just down the street on Locke, and often stop in for soup, a sandwich, or even just fries for the road. Everything has always been amazing. I could eat the tomato soup every day! Love having them nearby for lunch, dinner, or takeout!

Visited on March 30, 2024 with friends. The food was really good! :) I m not from around the area and the person at the register was very helpful and informative with their menu! Take out-delivery is popular as was steady traffic while was there. Thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. Am making it a regular destination. Highly recommended. Staff were very kind,,helpful and friendly. The food was DELICIOUS. Portions are a good value for money spent. Fresh cut fries and handmade burger patties!!!!! Made the way good food should be...not pre frozen pucks. Downside....tables needed to be washed off, bathroom garbage can was full and having a hook in the bathroom to hang your purse wouldve be great. We will definitely return though.

Read the great reviews so we stopped by for some take out while in Hamilton. Unfortunately was just OK for us. The Moroccan Chicken over Rice soup had almost no chicken and zero rice. They must have forgotten it. I also suggest leaving prepaid pickup orders on the counter with the order number and name clearly visible. I waited 10 minutes for the person in front of me to finish their complicated order while my order got cold. If I had seen a name our experience might have been slightly better.

Usually order from here and have positive experience with the place :) sadly the other night placed an order and when food arrived. Soup spilled every where in bag and on other items in the bag as well. This is something that should be checked before hand off to driver.

A great little place! We came from out of town. I definitely encourage you to stop in. We ordered the dillicious dill pickle fries and the Jamaican beef stew. It was buy one get one soup today so also ordered the Buffalo chicken wing soup. Both delicious! Sorry no photos but the dill pickle fries were huge! The place was packed when we were there, but we were still able to order and get our food in about 15 minutes. Staff were kind and communicative and the food was well prepared and delicious!

Got together with some coworkers and wanted to share with them the Burnt Tongue food because it s one of my favourites. We all showed up and it was such a welcoming atmosphere! The staff are incredible, attentive and just so sweet! Obviously the food was delicious, and the owner even gave us some carrot cake ice cream sandwiches with cream cheese ice cream! (It was SO good, not too sweet and the flavour was yummy). Thank you for your hospitality locke st! Will be back soon!

More places need to exist like the Burnt Tongue. Hearty sandwiches and soups with veg options that dont taste like it comes from a can or some warehouse? YES PLEASE! Service here is quick casual and it comes fast. Fries are crisp and doused in sauce if you order beyond the regular fries. Sandwiches are healthily stuffed and flavourful. Soup is seasoned well and love the veg options. I wish they had more options that had more green veg or veg stock. Either way, Id come back because it was affordable and tasted great.

Good place with lots of vegetarian options a tiny bit questionable though as they label their grana padano as vegetarian? Hmmm not sure why they do this I even asked the cashier but she didn t seem to know much about it I had to avoid it and got the mushroom soup which was good!

This is my new favourite place to eat. Their food is amazing, serving sizes are perfect for me (not too big like I normally find, I hate wasting), and the price is very reasonable. Had dinner Saturday and had to go back for lunch Sunday it was so good!

Awesome spot

The burger was okay, soup was good. But its a very small space and the back room was really cold. They didnt prepare my daughters order correctly, but it takes so long for a burger we didnt bother saying anything.

Come here fairly often and for the most part am usually happy with my order. Flavourful soups, delicious fresh buns and good fries. Was disappointed In their winter posole recently though. Got two large bowls and one had a single piece of meat and the other had two small pieces of meat and both only had a few tortillas strips. It was mostly a $26 order of broth. Last year the winter posole was our favorite and always came incredibly loaded with meat and tortilla strips, so we got it multiple times. Will be sticking to the cheaper soups from now on.

I love The Burnt Tongue! It s been a staple in Hamilton for many years and has always been my go to. They have something for for everyone: kid friendly, dietary restrictions, health conscious and the best comfort food. The soups are so tasty and unique. Some of my faves are the potato leek with crispy onions, any of their lentil soups and the kale caesar salad! They even do ice cream sandwiches in the summer The staff is always friendly and helpful with explaining any new menu items. They now have four locations, and do Uber eats. Love this place! It uses local produce and is a local business. They have tons of options for any type of eater and serves great grilled cheeses and hamburgers for the side. I always go for the side bun with my soup, its always worth it! You can also ask to taste samples to see which soups you like. Great food

Deliciousness abounds. Dill pickle fries were a hit with the family. Sandwiches, burger, soup and kale salad rounded us out. Absolutely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Had been to this restaurant a few years back and it was awesome. It had a cool menu and was a soup place. It still has a cool menu and they have moved since. But this time the two different soups that were ordered tasted very similar, and the buffalo chicken grilled sandwich I got had a very small amount of chicken, one half just almost had none, just a bit of sauce. My soup spoon was dirty and when I asked for a new one, the young man working wiped the new spoon with a cloth first . Though the soups were ok, it wasnt what I recalled from years ago. The sandwich was not worth $10 and Ill probably never be back. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant is much bigger than the previous place. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I expected more for a $45 lunch for 3.

I have been to the Cannon street location and the Locke street location a couple of time due to a friends recommendation. Two words Rock Star! The food is amazing! Soups are out of this world good and the fries are delish. Would highly recommend this chain!

First time eating here after seeing many good reviews, so was excited to try it. Well, Staff and service was great but very disappointed with the food. My roasted garlic potato soup was just okay, little watery and probably needed a little salt. And my grilled Buffalo chicken sandwich was really sad- mainly an overload of jalapeño cheese I think it was. When I opened it up it maybe had a tablespoon of chicken bits somewhere in there if that. I shud have taken it back. That alone was 10.00. Very disappointed bc I really wanted to love this place too, and most likely won t be back :(

The loaded fries were a total swing and a miss. The soups though were decent. Ill give them that. The service was slow (not necesary by theyre fault, but it took at least 20 minutes to get the fries that werent so good anyway). I dont know if I would ever go back, but if that would be the case, I would definetelly stick to the soups only.

If took a long time to get the 2 burgers. One burger came after 15 minutes. And the other one after the first person had finished eating theirs. Staff were not friendly and were annoyed when we inquired how long it would be for the second burger. Unacceptable service! The second burger was undercooked and pinkish in the center. Thats a health risk. This restaurant used to be excellent but not anymore. Wont be returning ever again. So disappointed.

Came to the restaurant on sept 24. Waited 25 mins for a soup, grilled cheese and fries. I and a few customers cleaned the tables our selves. Seemed like they were training someone - maybe best to do that on a week day when it isn t so busy - they can t seem to keep up with the Uber eats orders and servicing the customers in store. Disappointed

The Burnt Tongue is a gem on Locke St and has become a favourite stop for lunches and dinners. The soup and sandwiches are always delicious, make sure to try one of their seasonal soups! The staff is super friendly and hardworking. Special shout out to Hailey for particularly fantastic service tonight. She took the time to check on all the guests despite how busy the shop was this evening and was very personable. We recommend this restaurant to all our family and friends for the exceptional food and service!

Quick to say hello, the friendly cashier took our order and offered table delivery. Porcini Soup was delicious along side my tomato pesto grilled sandwich. Potato soup was excellent as well. Although busy, there was back room seating was available. Parking: Easy to use. Takes credit card or app.

We visited the place on October 28th. The place and food is great. They dont have hot beverages but they do allow beverages from outside.

I was working on a day job in Hamilton. I totally forgot. I had been to the Burnt Tongue before and I didn t like it but I only realized that after I ordered it again and then remembered why I didn t like it. First of all the cashier was brain dead. I had to keep on repeating, when I ordered word for word, verbatim she couldn t comprehend even the next topping.. A half size tomato basil sandwich, a cauliflower soup and a squash soup. After spending about $30 and 30 minutes. I went back to work, Only to realize why I didn t like this place in the first place. The sandwich was all butter and garlic had one tomato and I didn t see one piece of basil. It s garlic bread with one measly soggy tomato. Only advantage to ordering a full-size sandwich and double the price was you get another tomato?. Poor excuse for a sandwich. If you want to be malnourished, this is the sandwich for you. The cauliflower soup barely tasted like cauliflower. It It was some kind of flour, I m not sure what type of flour whether it was all purpose or it was a wheat flour. The soup I got was the squash soup soup and let me tell you something I found very interesting about this soup. They had cucumbers in it cooked cucumber titbits now that s original and disgusting. It s like the cook didn t know what to put in it. Cucumber bits This place was a real letdown and turned me off from soup and sandwich combos for good . I have no problem with cucumbers, except not in this soup. A cold cucumber soup that s fine, but this was not anything of the sort. They call themselves the Burnt Tongue, well let me tell you this soup wasn t worth me even burning my tongue ,people burn their tongue when they eat something they like too fast and it s too hot. I ate this ever so slowly to try to figure out what the hell I was eating. Do yourself a favour go buy some bread and slap some turkey and some cheese on it and buy yourself some Cambells soup. You ll be happier, salt, sugar, fat I m really sad that I didn t listen to my wife. She kept telling me that we ve been there before and I didn t like it . note to self your wives remember all the food you complained about don t doubt them they know , she paid for it and now I m gonna pay the price on the toilet. I m typing this as we speak.. Don t go here!!!! Hammertown you did wrong with this place.

Tried this place last month with a friend and there was a long hair in my grilled cheese. It was so disgusting I couldnt even finish my meal. Because of that, I wont ever be back and wont be reccomending it. Human hair in food is just an absolute no...

Delicious lunch; Posole Rojo, Ethiopian Lentils both recommended.

This place was our gold standard for fries that rivaled the chip truck, and once in a while, a grilled cheese sandwich. The fries still hold true, but the sandwich bread was hard and chewy, the cheese barely there any more, and the sandwich went up by $3 ( from $5 to $8). Will probably only get fries in the future.

Soups are very good, but I asked for a vegan option (double checked) and noticed halfway through that the soup had cheese. Vegans beware. Updated from 1 star to 4. Mike from the Burnt Tongue reached out and made it right. Human error happens and I will continue to enjoy their soups.

*Update - After emailing the restaurant as requested my email got lost. However, the Director of Guest Experience & Business Development found a way to track me down and ultimately got in touch with me. I am thoroughly impressed with the handling of my concerns and the constructive and kind responses I got from him. I was offered a gift certificate to use at any location but asked that this money be redirected to a community based food related charity. The Burnt Tongue has an existing relationship with the Community Fridges program in Hamilton and they were more than happy to direct the funds to this program. Glad to have businesses like this in our community.* Love the food. Unfortunately the last few times I have been in the service front of house has been truly terrible and bad enough for me to not go back (to this location at least). Some examples - missing items in take out orders, no offer to problem solve when I call them to get money back as the order was placed online, to not even being acknowledged by staff at all when waiting in person in the restaurant.

Expensive for what you get portion wise. Felt like for 10$ I paid, I ate the soup in 4 bites. However, it is very very tasty and rich in flavour. I have tried a few soups and salads, they are good, but portions are very small.

First time visiting. Excellent service. Able to offer choices based on my dairy free needs. My (adult)son had pesto grilled cheese, it was very good.

I must say this place is perfect. It is useful to consider that 15 or 20 years ago it would be impossible to purchase and have food of this high quality in a reasonably, affordable restaurant. The offerings are positively five star. The soups are well considered and delicious. The french fries are absolutely perfect. They are true French frites. The atmosphere is very comfortable. The decor is imaginative and inviting and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning work very well. The service is exemplary.

Love their soups! Every single one is delicious and hearty. My fave was the coconut corn chowder - not too salty and lots of different textures. They were kind enough to let us sample a few before making our selection. Reasonably priced and extremely fast service!

Good burger, nice location. Overall good experience. Too many extra charges, cheese... But overall reasonable prices. Need more items on the menu.

This place actually has good tomato soup. Its location, while small, was a nice place to settle down after a busy day at a nearby College. The fries may seem a bit odd at first, but surprisingly taste very good.

Their soups are great and the convenience of larger soups which can be heated later is great for this single parent!

It was good but not for a supper place. 1 the hours were limited till 8 pm, they ran out of soups and the soup I had was ok.

It s so wonderful to have burnt tongue in Hamilton. Best quality soup, great variety. The tomato tortellini is a must have. The burgers are great too. Always great quality! Hope to see a branch in Toronto!

Phenomenal soup and burger joint. 5 or so daily soups to choose from. Usually a vegan option or two (these sellout quick). Some soups for purchase by the litre to take home. A couple of burger options. My sons love them. Fries with curry ketchup are amazing. Salad option. Pop available. Limited seating that fills up fast. Great to go/take out spot on those lazy days. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Very clean.

Fantastic soup & good buns, sandwiches are great also! Love their pesto. 10/10, will definitely be back!

Went for takeout here, and got a soup, sandwich, and salad. While the food was pretty good, the cashier was a little rude to me, which kind of ruined the experience. I will likely not go back here for the rudeness alone, even if the food was good.

I had the roasted garlic Potato Leek soup today. Amazing. The staff was also awesome preparing my meal and cleaning the table.

Good soup and my kid loves the creamy tomato soup with pasta! She finished it all with her bread. Not a place for meat lover though, but definitely for soup lovers.

Great spot for lunch on a chilly day. tried their tomato soup, which was the best I ve ever tried, the grilled cheese was bigger than expected for the price and the fries are great, not too crispy but not too soggy. The atmosphere is nice, it s a pickup counter with tables to sit at. Overall it was a great meal with fair prices, I would love to try their full menu of soups eventually.

First time trying the burnt tongue. I got the single burger with cheese and a tortellini soup both so delicious and fresh !

This place has great food, fantastic, but I truly cannot understand how takeout orders take so long. I ordered fries and a soup and waited 20 mins. What?

I absolutely adore the burnt tongue on locke!! I wish they would open a location in Stoney creek. I love their soups but my favourites are the creamy ones. The fries and grilled cheese are delicious.
