Planted is a plant-based, gluten-free, and Kosher restaurant & bakery located in downtown Hamilton. Our mission is to prove that inclusive food can feel familiar and taste amazing. Whether it's nachos, pulled jackfruit sandwiches, or cashew mac and cheese, we're committed to making everything vegan, everything gluten-free, and everything awesome.
Thai place is so wonderful. Love all the art and the space is open and airy. Staff is lovely. A real gem.
My friend and I visited this restaurant spontaneously, without a reservation, and simply chose a spot that was available. I’ve always loved plant-based and vegan cuisine for its unusual flavor combinations and the light feeling after eating it. However, this time, my experience didn’t quite meet my expectations. I was drawn in by the name of a dish and ordered the eggplant. The portion turned out to be massive, so I couldn’t finish it. Unfortunately, the most disappointing part was the texture — the eggplant was excessively greasy. Every bite seemed to release oil, which was an unpleasant sensation. On the other hand, my friend ordered the mushroom burger, which was excellent. The bun was unique and delicious. Both the eggplant dish and the burger came with a generous side of sweet potato fries, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The service, while friendly, lacked professionalism. For instance, the waiter forgot one of the dishes we ordered, which, in hindsight, wasn’t such a bad thing since the portions were huge, and we wouldn’t have managed to eat more. He also forgot the tea, though we reminded him later. As for the drinks, the smoothie was tasty but not outstanding — it seemed the fruits used were frozen. From the appetizers, the falafel stood out as a highlight; we really enjoyed it. I must say, the presentation could be improved. The blue-and-white napkins on each plate felt cheap and detracted from the aesthetic appeal of the dishes. Overall, the venue is spacious, and we found a cozy corner with armchairs for two, which was nice. While the staff was welcoming, I missed the guidance a first-time customer might expect, such as recommendations or portion-size advice. Despite these issues, I wish the restaurant success and hope they continue to improve.
Honestly what a wonderful place! Love the aesthetic and decoration- felt very comfortable and cozy. The food was fantastic- the only , and I mean ONLY thing I would say is the bun for the burger was very dry and crusty … virtually impossible not to leave a messs after eating it. the dill fries were to die for! Wonderful staff and did not take long for my smoothie, and meal to show. Will definately go again and try out some other yummy treats and eats ❤️
Everything was very good. Probably one of the best vegan places I have been to and just love the fact that it's fully gluten free. Wish there are more restaurants like this. The flavour was really good. The donuts are better than wheat flour donuts in my opinion. They have the perfect level of sweetness and the texture is so good. I also love that the protein ingredients are made in house instead of serving the not so healthy "beyond" or "impossible" brand fake meats.
Great vegan place in Hamilton! Pancakes were excellent, and the "salmon (carrots really) bagel" was also nice! Also loved the cinnamon roll coffee, perfect for fall. Service was good, though it took a bit of time even though the place was not super busy but we didn’t mind. Also, great playlist!
The place is really nice and the playsit slay ! For the food, the bun of the burger is definitely a bit on the thicket side… and lack of some seasoning. However, the pancakes were the best I had in a really long time ! Would recommend to brunch there if you’re more on the sweet side for the morning :)
This place was amazing. The food was really good and the bakery items were great as well. As we have a couple Celiac family members, this was the first time they were able to order everything on the menu of a Kosher restaurant. This was truly one of the highlights of our trip from Ohio.
I've been here twice. First time it was during all-day Sunday breakfast and it put a huge smile on my face since we had just walked out of another restaurant nearby that we were late for the brunch menu to. 😅 These guys were still serving pancakes after 2PM and they were delicious! I loved the tofu scramble and lentil sausage as well! My second time in I ordered one of the burgers with fries and got a fritter to go as well. The portion sizes are excellent for the price. Though the fritter was not to my liking, I called to ask why it was tough and the manager was able to explain to me that it may have to do with it being gluten-free. He also offered me a complimentary coffee for my next visit, which I was very surprised and grateful for. Excited to visit a third time soon!
I guess this is a bit of an overrated vegan restaurant in Hamilton. I personally found that food is not that tasty in comparison. Good ambience but certainly food taste needs more work. Their smoothies are good.
Always happy to eat here. Never can figure out how they do gluten free AND vegan.
I came for lunch today and was promptly served by Amber. She described the special and the weekly soup offering. She recommended and I I ordered the butter tofu and it was hands down THE BEST I ve ever had-creamy, hot (temperature), with layers of exquisite flavours. My Americano was so tasty as well. Her service was impeccable and she checked on me to ensure I was satisfied. Best meal out in a while. I was a patron of another nearby vegan restaurant and wow-I m never going back there. The prices are way nicer and the food quality is far superior. Amber invited me to check out the Happiness zone upstairs as well-Thoroughly happy with Planted Hamilton!
The food here is beyond fabulous...if i lived closer id be here 5 times a week
Absolutely loved the falafel bowl! The dill aioli sauce, pickles, and roasted veggies were delicious, and everything paired together so well. I recently started a vegan diet, and I m thrilled to have found the perfect spot to dine. I ll definitely be a regular here!
Great place, amazing food
Got the butter tofu and falafel, it was insanely good. We sat up in the happiness loft and they were nice enough to bring our food up there. Highly recommend checking it out!
I am hoping this review will help those with wheat sensitivities/allergies. Planted uses wheat starch in a lot of its savoury baked goods. They dont advertise it and not all of their staff members know. They will tell you what most people think: GF foods dont contain wheat. Ive had to insist more than once that they check what kind of flour was used. Beware folks. Dietary restrictions: Planted is celiac-safe but not safe for those with wheat allergies.
Vegetarian options: Everything is vegetarian Kid-friendliness: High chairs available Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible. Numerous steps before the front door
The pumpkin sour cream donut is probably the best donut I ve ever had ! The matcha strawberry muffins they make is also delicious! Their pancakes are always so good! The bacon cheese fries is so delicious!! I love looking up what s the donuts selection they have !! I recommend!
I am writing an updated review after having deleted my previous review from an underwhelming eating experience at Planted back in the Spring which prompted me to give them a 3 star. After writing my review the restaurant manager/owner reached out and offered to make things right. I wasnt sure that I even wanted to return, but my friend has some very specific dietary needs and wanted to go back there for a birthday meal this past June. As such I contacted the manager and told her I was considering returning to give the restaurant another try. The manager so kindly and generously offered to comp an entrée, dessert and drink. So, my friend and I returned to Planted. Previously I had ordered the Chicken Caesar wrap and was very disappointed with my meal, the side of fries being the only redeeming thing. The second time around I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Lentil Burger and it was delicious! I also tried the Nanaimo bar treat and that too was delicious and the serving portion huge!! 4 stars seems sufficient to me as the food for this second eating experience was great, though not excellent enough to render a 5 star. However, the managers efforts to improve my eating experience at her establishment reflect excellent business management in my opinion. My friend and I both agreed that the previous time we went to Planted (which prompted my not so happy review, now deleted) she too did not enjoy the quality and we suspect it may have just been whoever had made our food that day, because our more recent visit was very different in a positive way! As for service, it was okay. Despite me letting the server know that the manager had comptd my meal (including drink and dessert) she still give me a bill at the end for the drink and dessert and I had to remind her again that I shouldnt have been charged for anything. She seemed rather annoyed but made the correction. Overall, I would definitely return to Planted again in the future and look forward to trying a different dish. Of particular note, the dessert options are plentiful, large portions for decent prices and are very tasty! Vegetarian options: Many Vegetarian/Vegan options Dietary restrictions: Pea proteins not used, as my friend is sensitive to this and was able to eat here as a result.
I craved healthy food so I visited this vegan place for the first time. My choice was wrong for healthy food, I guess, but my Eggplant Fish and chips was not it. The fries were mediocre. The eggplant fish had too much dough and tasteless undercooked eggplant. I left half food on my plate, and couldnt even finish fries. Their side soup was not bad.
This restaurant planted was awesome! We were happy to find it as we are from Windsor Ontario! I highly recommend the lentil patty with the portobello mushroom and Swiss cheeseburger with the sweet potato fries. The coffee was also excellent! The waiter was also super friendly!
The service from our server was outstanding she was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. However, our experience was marred by the chefs dismissive attitude. We ordered the hummus and falafel bowl, which weve enjoyed in the past. Unfortunately, this time it was overly salty to the point that my mom couldnt finish her meal. I tried to mix in other items to balance the flavor, but it was still too much. At the end of our meal, our server asked why we hadn t finished our dishes nor mentioned the issue, and we explained the dish was too salty. She kindly took our feedback to the chef, but he simply shrugged it off, saying, for me, its fine. This lack of responsiveness to customer feedback was disappointing. Overall, while the service was commendable, the kitchens unwillingness to consider customer input was a letdown. I hope they can address this, as Id love to return for the excellent service and food I know they can provide.
Great vegan food! Loved the eggplant fish and chips and the soft serve as well! Great fries too.
Took family here for lunch for some gluten free options and was impressed at the 100% gluten free menu. Im not vegan or celiac but the food was great, really crunchy fries and very creative faux meat dishes like the bacon cheeseburger and corn dog. Great drink options too. I would give 5 stars but the service wasnt as friendly as other Hamilton spots and the food took quite a long time to come even tho the place was quiet. If youve got people in your party with dietary restrictions, this place is a really good option.
Really great Food and great Service. Everything they have is Vegan... Thats unbelievable....
Not impressed with all the deep fried foods. Isnt Vegan supposed to he healthy? Way too Expensive for this Pub style menu.
Pretty good place!
I was skeptical before eating here as Ive never been to a vegan restaurant before. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the food was very tasty and filling. The staff were pleasant, and there was a great rustic vibe in the restaurant. I highly recommend it, though it is a bit pricey. Dietary restrictions: This restaurant is vegan and kosher.
Food was good, people were nice, building is beautiful. Definitely a place to come back too.
My wife and I came by for our 2 year wedding anniversary at which Planted in Catered. I ordered the Cesar Salad and it was hands down the best I ve ever had. I loved it so much I would come back again and again just for the salad. Our server was also very friendly and professional. 100% recommend this place
This is a revised review. I had previously written a negative one because of a bad experience, then revised it to be a really good review because of a good experience. But my most recent experience at Planted was not a good one. So, I have concluded that there are some good staff members and some bad staff members, depending on who is working at the place. It really drives home the point that people can make such a huge difference in how a customer feels. I currently dont feel like ever returning to the place. I had travelled 1 1/2 hours to go to Planted on Friday, June 21, 2024 and it felt like customers were just an imposition to the staff. Very sad. This place needs serious help in getting consistently decent staff who actually care about people and about service.
Incredible restaurant - cant recommend it enough for people with celiac disease who need 1000% gluten free venues! You can walk in and have full confidence that youre safe. Unlike most restaurants, you dont need to ask questions, make yourself and your needs known through an awkward conversation with some server who hardly knows what celiac entails, you dont need to feel accommodated or a wrench in some chefs side - you just walk in like any other diner and enjoy to your hearts content. There isnt a shred of gluten in the place! Entire menu is yours for the taking. Such great tasting food, great selection of hearty, filling meals (contrary to misconceptions of vegan food). My vegan gf and celiac self cannot express enough gratitude for this place!
I Gave this place a try with my family and disappointed how they are not honest when they bill you definitively check your bill the dishes includes side on the menu and even when you ask the server and then when they bill you they add extra and give you some weird justification just for this kind of dishonesty never going back again
Staff were friendly and quick to serve. Food was great! And all Vegan/GF.
We have never had a bad visit to Planted in Hamilton. The food service and atmosphere are all great. If youre celiac and vegan the baked goods are a rare treat! Totally love this place! And it is our family go-to whenever we are in the area. Dietary restrictions: Totally safe for people with celiac disease!!
I eat here at least once every week or two - its just that good. The food is always amazing regardless of if we dine in or take out. The service is impeccable and the staff are always very informative about what foods I can/cannot eat due to my nut allergy. Keep up the amazing work!!
Great food and selection of treats, the only thing stopping this place from being five stars is that its not accessible and theres only the front the front stairs. Wheelchair accessibility: None
The menu is small, but the food is good. The atmosphere is safe and comfortable. The service was excellent. Happy to have a vegan and kosher restaurant in Hamilton. Dietary restrictions: Kosher food is hard in smaller communities so it is always appreciated Kid-friendliness: The kids menu had coloring options and the portions were great. Our 6 year old daughter wanted more Falafel for dessert instead of a cookie.
Good food. A tad pricey. Nice ambience And good service.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Planted in Hamilton, Ontario, and I must say, this place is a revelation for anyone who loves delicious, plant-based food that tastes like traditional dishes. During my visit, I ordered the eggplant fish and chips, and it was hands down the best fish and chips meal Ive ever had in my life. Yes, you read that right eggplant fish and chips! The eggplant was perfectly battered and fried to a golden crisp, offering a delightful crunch with every bite. The texture and flavor were so incredibly close to traditional fish that I almost couldnt believe it was plant-based. It came with a side of crispy fries and a tangy tartar sauce that complemented the dish perfectly. To top it off, I paired my meal with their tropical smoothie, which was a vibrant and refreshing accompaniment. The smoothie was bursting with tropical flavors and provided a perfect balance to the savory meal. What made this experience even more special was the context of my visit. I was in Hamilton to visit a family member in the hospital, and this meal provided me with the much-needed energy and emotional uplift. The food at Planted is not only healthy and nourishing but also incredibly comforting and satisfying. If you find yourself in Hamilton, do yourself a favor and visit Planted. Whether youre a plant-based food enthusiast or just curious to try something new, this restaurant will exceed your expectations. The innovative menu, coupled with the warm and inviting atmosphere, makes it a must-visit spot. Thank you, Planted, for such an unforgettable delicious meal!
Loved they have everything vegan. We were visiting the town and was worried to find some good food but this was our go to.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Brunch and baked goods are the best.
I really love planted. It is the only place where I can eat and not worry about encountering my food allergies. I love all of the food, and the baked goods are next level.
I cannot express enough how disgusting that burger. And the bun was the only good thing was the fries? I got 2 burgers, fries Andy Mac. And cheese, first of all who throws penne into a bowl and then throws some cheese sauce on top and calls that Mac. And cheese, absolutely disgusting. The only good thing was the French fries. $45 later, not worth it at all. Wasted food had to go to another restaurant to eat again. I spent a hundred dollars!
Their mac and cheese was my favorite and i would visit just for that it comes with roasted veggies and is just perfect. The most recent time i went they changed the recipe for the mac and cheese and it s still really good but i liked the old version better.
This is one of my all-time favorite vegan restaurants. I have been a customer of theirs for years. Their Caesar salad is bomb. I do like a lot of their other dishes as well. They re baked goods are fantastic and people are very helpful about discussing any menu options if need be. I do not typically take their online ordering system is pretty easy. They did forget the capers on my salad last time But they put pickled onions for me so I guess I ll let it slide. Lol can t wait to be back.
It was a nice place to visit! The black bean wrap was cold, wish it was warm.
I just walked for 30 minutes just to be told I cant dine in because its 8:30 PM and they close at 9 PM. I am sorry but I dont find this accommodating at all. If you are going to stop dine in at 8:30 PM, then maybe you should have it posted on your website so that people dont waste their time. I am happy to spend my money elsewhere considering you dont seem to be accommodating. This was my first time coming to Planted to dine in, and I guarantee you it will be the last I ever put any thought into ordering from you. I had ordered my birthday cake from you a month ago and I absolutely loved it! Its just too bad that you will never get my business again! There are plenty of other vegan options in Hamilton that I will be giving my business to.
Great food, safe for my celiac husband. We always seem to pickup food from here and really need to dine in sometime as I love the location and the vibe! Weve gotten many great donuts here. Dietary restrictions: My Celiac husband and I both love this place, and its very safe as the whole place is gluten free. Kid-friendliness: Good setup and space for my kindergarten aged child, nice big bathrooms too, but I cant remember about high chairs and changing areas, I suspect they have both these things.
I called this restaurant to ask them what baked goods they had. The person who answered the phone was this rude and said we only have a few baked goods today . When I asked her to please share exactly what was remaining because I was planning on making a 2h trip to get to there they responded it s too busy for me to name all of the items we have. We cannot spend time doing this on the phone. You can come and see for yourself . I ended up taking the chance and arrived at the restaurant 2 hours later. They had ran out of all baked goods. It turns out because it was a weekday they didn t make all of the baked goods they usually would on the weekend. I ended up ordering the kale salad just to make myself feel better about making such a useless trip to this restaurant. The kale salad was okay at best. All in all terrible customer service, mediocre kale salad. I will not be returning unless there s improvement to their customer service skills especially over the phone. This is the first restaurant that s refused to share info about what they have in stock on the phone. I understand what s in stock can change but it would ve been helpful to know if there was only 1 muffin, donut, etc left. I wouldn t have made the trip out.
The best food and service!
The is a must for anyone who likes great food. The dill pickle fries are amazing. Lots of great vegan doughnuts and pastries. Go there now!
Amazing ambience wonderful food all vegan
This place has great vibes and good food. Will be back!
10 dollars for small bowl of soup filled 3/4 full Falafel wrap was not well put together very sad Cheesy bacon fries worst Ive had . What is on the fries greasy deep-fried gross bacon and nutritional yeast sauce was horrible. Never again. Food : 1/5
Impressed by their creative vegan menu selections! Food was great, really cool vibe!
Food and service were fantastic. Staff are very friendly
Ate here several times on our trip to Canada, dined in, took out, all pretty epic! Our first time wed been driving all day and I was starving. I wanted something hardy so I got the planted mac which was great, but for me the roasted vege that came with it, totally satisfied. I wish wed had the chance to try some more of the menu. It was all great!
Amazing GF vegan food and friendliest service. Meals are delish especially the burger, sweet potato fries and pancakes. Nanaimo bars and doughnuts are to die for. Such a treat on Locke St.! Update: visited Planted last week to celebrate a birthday. I live over an hour away so visiting Planted is such a special treat that I look forward to, especially because I am sure that the food is safe for me to eat. The service was fairly efficient. Most of the food was delicious. We were seated quickly. Spent over $150 including tip because it was a special occasion. Because we were having a long time reunion with my neice we had much to catch up on. We were seated quickly. The server came to our table in a timely manner to provide water and to take our orders but we had not yet finished deciding and we asked for a bit more time. To be clear the restaurant had other customers but was not overly busy being that it was about 2:00 pm on a weekday. A few minutes later a different woman arrived at our table to take our orders. She was looking very serious. We guessed that we were taking too long to order. I have to admit that the menu is all so enticing it is hard to choose. I joked that I would have one of everything. Just to clarify, we were not being loud and the restaurant was not busy. Okay, so next time we will sit outside to catch up before entering the restaurant. During the rest of our visit there we were served by our original server who was very friendly, helpful and went above and beyond. Our food arrived in good time and was hot and fresh. We enjoyed our dishes. 5 stars for the fried pickles, Nachos, Grilled Cheez, and french fries. It was my neices birthday and so I offered her dessert but she was full and preferred to take a Nanaimo Bar home. The Nanaimo Bars are heavenly and also get 5 stars. Because it was her birthday the waitress gave a discount on my neices dessert and gave her a coupon for a free pastry upon her next visit. Customer service doesnt get any better than that! I dont enjoy giving negative feedback unless I feel it is absolutely necessary. I was disappointed in the eggplant Fish n Chips as it was so greasy that there was a small puddle of grease that had collected at the bottom on the checkered waxed paper. I have read past rave reviews about this dish so perhaps this was an exception. My main concern was the apple fritter. I have purchased these in the past as well as a selection of their doughnuts and other desserts. As usual, I ordered a selection of desserts to take home to freeze including my favourite-apple fritters. Upon arriving home my son and I split an apple fritter. The outer part of the fritter was very, very dry and tasted like it was a day old. But, upon cutting into the middle we saw raw dough which indeed tasted like raw dough and had the texture of raw dough. We cut into the others and they were all the same. At $5 per fritter I would be very hesitant to order these again. No restaurant visit is perfect. Planted, however, provides a pretty amazing experience with lots of delicious vegan/gluten free choices, wonderful environment and servers who really care. Vegetarian options: All vegan restaurant. Dietary restrictions: Dedicated gluten free restaurant.
We visited for brunch today and unfortunately our experience was sub par. We were informed upon seating that it would take about 30 minutes to get our food as they were a little busy. No problem and we appreciated that we were told upfront about this. When we were ready to order, we waited and waited and no one came back to our table. We waited for over 20 minutes before one member of our group went up to ask (as it was our first time, maybe we had to go up to the counter to place our order, we weren t sure) and was told someone would come by. Someone did come by eventually and apologized (appreciated this) and took our food order. We waited over 30 minutes for our food but was excited as we were famished by this point. I wasn t impressed with the brunch burger i ordered. A bit tasteless and the side of kale and onions that came with it could have been sautéed a bit longer, a few were still raw! I understand the establishment was most likely short staffed, however, having no staff front of house to look after anyone coming in to dine or seeing if any patrons already at a table needed anything is unfortunately an oversight while you have one person looking after making drinks, one at the till and one packing up/looking after the online orders and I believe another only cleaning tables. It seemed most of the busyness was from takeaways and online orders as there were quite a few empty tables. Perhaps on days you are short staffed, you can close the online ordering for a little bit to ensure you can accommodate those dining in. No one came by to refill our water, no one came by to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything else, and when we paid, there was no sincere acknowledgement for the long wait or that we were overlooked when trying to place our food order. I understand the restaurant business is tough and we are trying hard to support local businesses but if service is sub par and we are made to feel like our patronage is not wanted, it makes it very difficult to support a local business.
Wonderful food and excellent, friendly service. The pickle chips and dip are amazing and came in a surprisingly large quantity. Meals came quickly and were perfect. Will definitely come back when visiting Hamilton again.
Plantain tacos were a little dry, but the dill pickle fries were a must try.
Great place, friendly staff, cool Atmosphere. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free. Food : 5/5 |
It was a really nice place for vegan food but I believe the portions got smaller still delicious but you leave hungry
So nice to be able to eat somewhere and not have to ask if anything was celiac-safe! Would 100% go back for the pickle chips and cruellers.
I just adore this place. From the minute you walk in you feel so welcome with staff shouting it from behind the counter. The full menu is safe for me and as a vegan celiac, this is such a blessing. I dont have to ask a million questions because they know and tell you all of the allergens that are present. We shared a plate of nachos, which was delicious, and got an apple fritter and a piece of strawberry cake to go. I also bought a piece of laffa bread and fried tofu to have for breakfast tomorrow. I highly recommend you go here and enjoy everything as much as we do!! Bonus points for being a safe space for the rainbow family!!! Vegetarian options: Everything is vegan!! Dietary restrictions: Everything is gluten free and they let you know of any allergens present Kid-friendliness: There were two wee ones there while we were there. They have high chairs and the staff were wonderful with helping.
My all time favourite place to eat! Fried pickles, falafels and ceaser salad are all exceptional!
Food was decent- service was terrible We waited at the door for 5 min to be seated Then we were ignored - nobody came to take our order until my husband went to order at the counter When we were done again nobody came to check on us we until we got up to go to the counter to pay Will not be going there again
So great to walk into a restaurant and know everything so gluten free!!
Nice place for dine in with pleasant music *Sunday only Brunch Food
The vegan cuisine offered here is exceptional, with a wide array of options to choose from. The experience is not overly extravagant, but rather subtly impressive. The service provided is amicable and hospitable, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Although parking can be challenging in this area, it is a common occurrence on Locke Street. The prices are reasonable in proportion to the generous servings. Please take note that the entrance of the establishment is not wheelchair accessible. However, once you step inside, you will find that everything is conveniently located on the same level, and the washrooms are easily accessible. I fully intend to return in the future.
Had a very delicious meal here. Great kids menu, as well! Dietary restrictions: Everything is vegan Food : 5/5 |
Absolutely loved Planted, the food was incredible, the atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting and the staff was a delight. Its so wonderful to be able to go to a restaurant and to eat knowing that it is completely gluten free. We will be going back often and recommending it to everyone!
Like really bad They heat up your cream
Vegan and gluten-free goodness!! I got the Jackfruit BBQ sandwich with fries, it tastes similar to pulled pork if youve eaten meat. The jackfruit just melts in your mouth. The fries were nicely seasoned, hot sauce is free, and you can get ketchup at the front. My food was ready in something like 5 minutes and the waitresses were super nice. For dessert I had the PB&J cupcake which was good but I mightve made it even better by adding some jelly filling. Overall though, I was very satisfied and will be coming back with friends and family! Update 1/14/24: I came here with two family members for brunch. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food (breakfast bowl, burger, bagel with carrot lox, latkes and PANCAKES). Oh my goodness, the pancakes were SO fluffy and delicious. I will absolutely be back! Dietary restrictions: Vegan and gluten-free
The falafel wrap is amazing!! Such a cute spot and great service too!
Great gluten free dairy free food. The fish and chips are made of eggplant with a delicious crispy gluten free batter.
I would not go back or recommend. I had a lentil burger here with grilled vegetables on the side. The bun was stale and COLD, as if it had been sitting in the fridge for a while and they just took it out and served it. How hard is it to serve a proper bun for a burger? the dressing was just a ton of overly sweet ketchup. The portion size was small. The grilled veggies, were 7 single small thin short slices of vegetables that looked like they had been dipped in oil and then thrown in a pan, under seasoned, and greasy. I can say without a doubt, this was the lowest quality meal I have had on Locke St to date. and to think this was a birthday lunch! And they kept us waiting for 15 minutes to be seated when there were 7 available tables. Overall poor quality service and low quality food.
Went for lunch for the first time yesterday and was blown away. Food was SO tasty and fresh. Staff was in incredibly nice and welcoming. Food was was so reasonable and great portions too. Would 100% so back!
First visit i had the soup of the day and an order of nachos. Both were absolutely delicious and the staff were amazing. Will definitely be going back
Enjoyed the drunken noodle. Hope it s a new regular addition to the menu.
Amazing place. The atmosphere and decor is great and welcoming. Friendly staff. I ordered the falafel, chips trio and the tofu bowl and it was delicious. Will return again!
Lovely staff and delicious food. I enjoyed the Brunch Burger and look forward to trying more.
Awesome local kosher, vegan gluten-free restaurant and bakery!
Hands down the best vegan desserts anywhere. Love this place
Great location. Great staff. Awesome food! FYI I am a meat eater and lover, but the dishes here are really tasty and delicious.
This place is awesome and kosher!! Thank you planted!!
I love the food and atmosphere at planted. My favourite is the falafel bowl and nachos. The desserts are yummy too. Check them out if you are vegan or not vegan like me and still enjoy vegan fare.
I want to stay Planted at Planted! I am not vegan but have dairy and gluten issues so options are scarce for delicious meals out. The flavoura were amazing! Unique tastes and awesome service. My new favorite!
Great Vegan restaurant in a very cool building. Must check it out if you in Hamilton
Good, even great food, but frigid temperature inside. Everyone in the restaurant had to have jackets and hats on. Really affected the dining experience.
Tried to dine in for lunch. Waited 40 minutes for a sandwich, they seemed to just completely forget about me, then ran out if time and had to get it to go. Pretty overpriced 25$ sandwich that I didn t even have time to eat. What a waste of time and money
Love this place!
Only kosher restaurant in Hamilton, good menu selection, food is flavourful and well presented. Price very reasonable as well. Been here twice now, walked away satisfied each time.
I dont like being too critical and hope this is taken as an opportunity to improve. Arrived at 6 on Saturday, lots of seats. Food was served at 705. The salad and falafel bowls were fine. The french were soggy, cold and uncooked. Did I mention we waited an hour for this? I saw a similar review; its like you forgot we were there. I might take out but wont eat in anytime soon.
Similar experience as other with poor service and dismissive staff.
Horrible
This was our first time here and we absolutely loved it. The ambience is great! Food- super delicious! Loved the menu! Very kid-friendly (diaper change table in the super clean washroom, has comfortable high chairs, has a kids menu, has entertainment for kids at the table) Owners and the staff were super warm and loved the service! Would recommend this place 10/10
Tasty
Great restaurant, atmosphere, and dine-environment. Wait time was not too long, and the food was excellent - healthy and delicious. Very friendly service, as well :)
Delicious! Tried the Mac and cheese and Ruben sandwich and both were excellent! All gluten free and vegan! My only tiny gripe, is that it felt a little pricey for the amount of food (over $25 after a tip), but I understand that its incredibly expensive to run a gluten free and vegan establishment, and with costs for ingredients going up, that will be reflected in the price of food. Delicious and worth it!
I really enjoyed their Dip Trio. Guacamole, salsa, and a vegan type of queso with delicious tortilla chips! It was a nice shareable appetizer.
We did not enjoy their baked goods, texture and flavours were off-putting.
Excellent food!
A great addition to the Hamilton Jewish Community
Great tasting food! Good service - server named, Nicole, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Definitely will be going again, hopefully soon! Recommended dishes
One of our favorite places!!!! Great everything
Planted was absolutely delish! Looking forward to trying their regular menu. I had the brunch burger and was really impressed.
I visited Planted for the first time on Sunday around noon and had a great experience! We were seated immediately and informed by staff that only the brunch menu was available on Sundays. My mom (who can eat gluten) ordered the pancakes with blueberry compote and they were without a doubt the best pancakes either of us have ever tried. I ordered the Shmear & Lox and was honestly enjoyed it more than non-vegan versions I ve had elsewhere. Our server Nicole was so lovely, answered all of our questions, and provided transparent recommendations for meal options. The restaurant itself was cool so I would suggested wearing a sweater or having a jacket handy (the dine-in area has high ceilings so it s to be expected). The atmosphere was definitely family friendly, not formal dining. I ordered 2 donuts after our meal and the crueller was especially wonderful. Will definitely be going back again! Dietary restrictions: The entire restaurant is gluten-free and plant based; great for some someone with celiac disease, a dairy intolerance, or other restrictions. The wonderful thing is that they still have options which taste non-vegan, and a variety of choices including comfort food. Great selection for any mood you may be in! Parking: We parked for free on one of the side streets across from the restaurant and walked roughly five minutes to Planted. It didn t take long to find a spot.
Was excited to eat here but the service was extremely slow. Our meal was good, but waiting 45 mins was not pleasant.
Everything is delish! You can t go wrong.
I really felt like this is a nice restaurant. The food was good I just had sweet potato fries and I loved the dip. The staff were really nice too! Bad cup of coffee though. Not somewhere I will get coffee again. But the vegan food was great!
Genuinley amazing resturaunt. Food so good you cant belive its vegan. I have gone here 4 times already, and have loved every visit. Service is great, same with the food and location. Fun fact: Planteds location was originally a church. 10/10 would definitely eat again. Vegetarian options: Its literally a vegan resturaunt. Dietary restrictions: Again, Its a vegan resturaunt. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu, with a word search you can do.
The service and atmosphere are both very nice. I have liked everything I have tried. It is solidly good vegan food. However, I have never been amazed by anything I have tried. It is more vegan comfort food than elevated vegan food - which is an important niche for a restaurant in Hamilton and I am very glad Planted exists!
I true gem! I took my friend who was visiting from out of town to Planted because I wanted to show off Hamiltons food sence while being sensitive to her very strict dietary restrictions. The vegan, gluten-free menu was a dream for her! She was so excited see a menu where nothing was off limits! We loved every bite and both ensured we took coffee and treats to-go. But Im almost forgetting to mention that we love the old church and curated selection of art. Bonus being on Locke Street... Allowed me to show off great area in Hamilton.
I was really excited to hear about this restaurant. But sadly am very disappointed. The service is terrible . It takes forever to be served. Do not waste your money on the Donuts. Ive purchased them at least 3 times hoping for a change - they have been stale and hard and my most recent purchase of the cruellers were undercooked. It was basically like biting into pizza dough. I will be calling the establishment to complain - not likely they will care. They all have a very laissez-faire attitude. Think twice and drive to Edible options in St. Catharines . They are professional, lovely and their products especially their donuts are AMAZING
I ve been here several times to try to get as many data points as possible. Deep down I wanted to love this place but it hasn t worked out for me. Service is VERY SLOW. Be prepared to wait a long time for a table OR to order at the counter OR to get your food OR to even pickup a takeout order (online ETA is inaccurate). I also find many of the dishes (such as mac cheese, salads, soups, and grilled veggies) to be VERY SALTY. I m always chugging water after. The positives about this place are that the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly.
Vegetarian options: vegan, dairy free, meat free, cruelty free Dietary restrictions: entire menu Vegan & Gluten Free Food : 4/5 |
Absolutely phenomenal range of vegetarian dishes, cooked to perfection. The service is outstanding, friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Wish we had remembered to take pictures before digging in but well be back! Vegetarian options: The entire menu is vegetarian, lots of vegan options as well.
Really bad experience two times I have been there. Their smoothie had big frozen chunks in it. Was practically undrinkable. I ordered a planted salad and it was way overpriced for what they give. Bad lettuce and greens, sweet potato was undercooked and just looked overall disappointing. Wont go there again. Waste of money!
Crazy good menu you don t have to second guess anything ! The fluffiest pancakes I ve ever had and I ve never seen so many options for gluten free cookies brownies etc ! And great prices ! Will definitely be back Dietary restrictions: Great for people with celiac or gluten issues. And vegans
Fantastic ambience and lovely food
Planted is a super awesome vegan restaurant. I ordered the breakfast sandwich/wrap and it easily one of the best things I ve ever tasted. Their baked goods are tasty.
Loved their Bagel Sandwich
Always a wonderful experience eating here. Staff are super nice and the food is delicious. As someone who is celiac, Im grateful for the dedication that everything is free of gluten. :) This time I tried the Breakfast Bowl and absolutely loved it! Their pastries and salads are amazing too. Vegetarian options: Fully plant-based menu! Dietary restrictions: Fully gluten free!
Incredibly delicious vega food. Nice atmosphere. Very friendly service. Ill be back!
Friendly environment. The nachos were amazing!!
Always friendly service and delicious vegan, gluten free food including sausage, bacon and eggs. Perfect portions for brunch. Planted is worth a visit even if you arent vegetarian or vegan! Vegetarian options: Entirely vegan menu. Dietary restrictions: Accommodates gluten free or celiac with meals and desserts!
Went specifically for the bakery and oh.my.gosh we were not disappointed. The French cruellers were amazing and the brownies hit every peanut butter craving I didn t even know I had. Going back for an order of doughnuts to bring to Canada Day bbq Dietary restrictions: Dairy and egg allergy/sensitivity.
Love the space, the staff and the food!
My daughter & family invited me to dine at Planted with them. As I am a full meat eating monster, I was wondering what I would eat & enjoy. Bottom line, You Just Gotta Eat Here. Great tasting food, super service & a wonderful eating atmosphere. Try the eggplant fish & chips. Everything made on site & super fresh. Cant wait for my next visit. Kudos to Planted in Hamilton Vegetarian options: Try the Eggplant Fish & Chips or any of the Vegan dishes. You will not be disappointed. Kid-friendliness: My grandkids are Vegan, love the place & food
Delicious
I m on a mission to find a fantastic Gluten free donut and so far this place has the number one spot on my list.
Very good with children. Very good dishes, great for vegetarians.
OMG!!! This place is a breath of fresh air when it comes to eating a clean healthy vegan meal. Just had the best breakfast, made from scratch! Lentil sausages with rice bacon & tofu scrambled. Let s just say they have the best gluten free PANCAKES I have ever had & I have had some in LA, Toronto, etc. This was #1. Light, fluffy & full of flavour. Hollandaise sauce was to die for as well. Service was amazing & friendly. Def coming back when I m back in Hamilton (out of town). Thanks again for a clean vegan meal
Mac and cheese and caesar salad are delicious!
Loved eating here! I got the falafel plate and was very impressed. I will be back! Vegetarian options: Completely vegan
I keep coming back because the quality of food, taste, freshness and price. These people are great. If you care about your own health, about good food, about the Earth you should try this place. Too many good small restaurants go out of business because majority of us eat at the big chain factory fast-food places. These fast-food places make you sick, fat and dumb. Be smart eat healthy in the small restaurants, support local and invest into your health and your kids health.
Delishious healthy food, cozy place, very pleasant atmosphere! Definitely, we will be coming back!
Planted is amazing. I have Celiac and eating out is never really safe and I often get ill after. At Planted I knew everything was 100% certified Gluten free. Not only that but they have offerings that I hadnt eaten since my diagnosis 10 years ago. The Belgium Waffle literally has me in tears. It tasted exactly as I remembered from so long ago. Better really! I can not thank the owners, chefs and staff for providing the most delicious vegan, gluten free dishes I have ever tasted. Would give 10 stars if I could. Thank guys!
Absolutely delicious food which happens to also be fully vegan, gluten free and kosher. We shared the Mediterranean bowl and a schnitzel, which was the special that day. Both were absolutely incredible. To finish we tried an Apple fritter, one of the many fresh bakery items they had available. It was a bit on the heavier side for a fritter/donut but it was tasty and paired very well with coffee. Planted in Hamilton is a must try for all vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike.
Excellent spot, great food, super friendly staff.
Delicious vegan and gluten free food. Lots of options. Reasonably priced.
The BEST vegan food ever. I had the dish of the day which was a fried orange tofu on rice and grilled veggies, it was epic. My daughter got the planted mac, she loved every bit of it. So flaverful. The fun part was the drinks, we got the Italian soda, one with coconut, the other chocolate, both so good. Staff were so nice. Highly recommend.
Unbeatable spot for folks with dietary restrictions
Everything I had was excellent! I ordered the falafel sandwich, sweet potato fries, and the lemonade. I shared the dip trio. Everything tasted fresh and was excellent. Food
My work colleagues and I were volunteering at a farm sanctuary where only vegan food was allowed. I contacted Planted through the website via email and the owner, Emily, was quick to respond. She was super flexible and accommodated my group without complaint, even though we kept changing things. She had all our lunches packed up and labeled with our names by 8:45am even though they don t open until after 11:00am. The food was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be eating there again!
Amazing food and treats. We ve been frequenting Planted for years from Corktown to Locke and will follow them again if they ever need to move. It s amazing being able to order anything off the menu and their rotating bakery offerings are on point. Add in special order GF challah for our Jewish family member and you ve got the total package! Their staff are always friendly and courteous. Hopefully the restaurant can get more accessibility in the future to serve even more customers.
I previously gave Planted a five-star review but am now forced to revise it down to three stars. Why? The menu seems to have shifted since our prior visit five months ago, and everything was -way- too salty. This was especially noticeable with the (eggplant) Fish & Chips... some of the fries were almost inedible. The Mac & Cheese was a miss, too, but for an additional reason: short, wide, al denta penne pasta doesnt go well with soupy Daiya-esque cream sauce.... this dish needs a rethink.
We got the orange tofu bowl and thai spicy peanut bowl. As a drink we got cherry lemonade. Both bowls were super delicious. Thai spicy peanut sauce was missing something, a little bit salt and sourness from lemon might have made the meal way better in my opinion. But im glad we have a really nice vegan restaurant in the city! Definitely will be back. Service was very slow. We came here on a tuesday. Although it wasnt crowded we waited for our meal a long time as well as for our bill at the end to the point my partner got to the front to pay since no one was coming. Service should be improved. Other than that no complaints
Edited September 2023: I have been a customer for many years. All the original staff I knew and loved are gone. A lot of the vibe went with them and it feels more generic and commercial. We did have a lovely new server yesterday, but there seems to be a high staff turnover during the past year or so. I still recommend Planted. The reason I have removed 2 stars is that the portion sizes have REALLY downsized from what they were. Hamilton used to be a haven for vegan dining, but both Locke St. vegan eateries have become less enthralling. Planted is the only one I will eat at currently. Original review: How do I love thee? Let me count the ways: 1. Community minded - the only eating establishment I know of who looks after those less fortunate in the neighbourhood. 2. The people who work here are happy and friendly. Im so happy every time I go in to see familiar and new faces, who quickly become friends. Its simply a very nice place with very nice people! 3. The food. Oh the food, such an assortment and so delicious. From soup and sandwiches to vegan omelettes and the most scrumptious desserts. The choices keep expanding. Best of all, it is ALL gluten-free and vegan. Im willing to bet that hard core animal eaters would enjoy the offerings. This is my absolute favourite place to eat in Hamilton and I look forward to going soon. 4. Pleasant environment. Very welcoming and cozy even though it has a concrete floor and high ceilings. A request: publish a cookbook. Dont worry about revealing trade secrets because we all would rather eat there, but it isnt always possible. I know 2 publishers so feel free to contact me if you ever decide to go for it and dont know a publisher. Thanks for being there. I love how you have evolved.
Wonderful restaurant. One should be careful with Mac, though. It turned out to be Pasta with vegetables. Menu didn t seem to offer a description of what each item is and therefore it could lead to confusion.
Absolutely delicious! Finding vegan restaurants that are also gluten free can be a challenge, but they definitely found a niche. The breakfast bowl was delectable. A large portion and every bite was different. The chickpea sandwich in a bagel came with yummy pickles too. Well have to come back for dessert. Theres a full selection of gluten free baked goods available. From cookie bars to donuts. Parking: Theres parking along both sides of the street. You have to pay to park during certain hours.
Great place in a refurbished church. Our food wasnt tasty and it was overpriced. The patty in the planted burger was good but the bread was stale and nor appetizing. The whole dish was very small. The girls working there were very nice though. Food
Been a loyal customer to this place. It always amazes me that the food is always so fresh and delicious every time I go. Consistency is definitely on the menu here. Dont miss out
Loved this place! Finally don t have to ask if it s gluten free or Vegan! Amazing food and assorted of baked goods. Service was great, super friendly thank you so much Amber!!!
I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the Thanksgiving dinner I recently ordered from this establishment. While I had high hopes for a memorable and delicious meal, my experience fell far short of expectations. Firstly, the cost of the dinner was exorbitant given the quality and quantity of food provided. I expected to pay a premium for a special holiday meal, but the value I received did not align with the price I paid. Secondly, the taste of the dishes was underwhelming and bland. Thanksgiving is a time for indulgence and flavorful dishes, but the meal I received lacked the depth of flavors and creativity I associate with your restaurant. Most notably, the description stated that the meal could serve 4-6 people, but it was barely enough to satisfy two individuals. This discrepancy in portion size was both misleading and frustrating, as it left my family and me scrambling to find additional food to complete our Thanksgiving celebration. I had previously held your restaurant in high regard for its culinary excellence, but this experience has left me questioning the quality and integrity of your offerings. I hope you take this feedback seriously and consider making improvements to ensure that future customers do not encounter similar issues.
First time going there. The restaurant has great esthetic and is clean. I had the Falafel appetizer and the Planted Salad. Both were delicious. The salad was a great mix of spicy, savory, and sweet. The customer service was great. Ill definitely be recommending it to my friends.
Amazing food! I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, I am grateful for a gluten free and vegan environment!
Enjoyed a great lunch and desserts here one time. At another time came just to pick up some desserts to go. Their dessert selection of vegan baked goods is perhaps the best in Hamilton. The sweets are really rich in flavor and sweetness, and you get to choose from various squares, cakes, cookies, and donuts. The squares and cakes are our favorites! The prices are good too for the size and quality. The service is okay. The restaurant itself provides lots of seating, and there is a good selection of items on the menu. The falafel bowl was excellent. Overall, this is one of Hamiltons best vegan restaurants.
Tasty food and delicious healthy desserts. This place is a hidden gem in Hamilton.
Wonderful cafe, with a great menu! Just visiting Canada to see a friend and will stop by the next time!
This place is a gym. I am so happy I found it. It s exactly everything I was looking for the food is perfection. The atmosphere is perfect. I love it. I congratulate the owner for creating such beautiful, perfect food and atmosphere so delicious amazing I love it. Thank you very much, you got experience this place it s better than the pictures. It s a first tasty. Wow you ll love it. Parking: Parking was easier free
I love planted! I work on Locke street and frequent Planted for lunch! The food is full of flavour, and big portions. Definitely a bang for your buck. I usually get the falafel wrap- so tasty! Today I tried their daily soup, something along the lines of butternut squash tahini, but man so rich and delicious!!
Compliments to the chef holy smokes. I got the eggplant fish and chips and I was blown away. This dish should be famous for being gluten free and vegan. I can t believe I had never been there. Also great staff. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and vegan.
We drive 40 min to get to Planted. When we first visited Planted they were at their old location. We were pleasantly surprised by their Thai Bowl and the rest of the menu. My very picky, non-vegan son even declared his burger as the best one he ever had. Then they moved, changed their menu for the worse and after the dismal experience this weekend I dont think we will ever go back. We arrived 1:25 pm and were told that we can only order from the brunch menu. Not a problem except that they didnt have waffles, pancakes, smoothies, espresso, and cant make decaf coffee. 20 minutes into waiting for our food, we were informed they couldnt do half of what we ordered. It took them 30 minutes to serve our food and there were only 4 other tables occupied at that time. I love good, healthy food and where they were once my go to restaurant, it is just not worth it anymore. Hopefully other guests will have better experiences.
I must first qualify the fact that Im not gluten-intolerant or even vegetarian; I did dine with 2 friends who are both vegan chefs, and run a popular restaurant in Stratford. We ordered the pasta special, Thai Bowl, Falafel Wrap; sides were Mac n Cheese and Caesar Salad; and dessert with Lattes were Peanut Butter Brownie, Lemon Meringue Bar and the French Cruller Donut. Service from Amber was impeccable and magnificently personable. Lattes and entrees were not hot - shredded cheese on top of pasta couldnt melt and the flavour was far too subtle for our expectations. Falafel Wrap was outstanding, as was the Mac n Cheese and ALL the desserts - especially the Lemon Meringue Bar; you must try this. Prices are super reasonable with dinner for 4 coming in at $130 - including 20% tip. I would definitely visit again to take a vegan and/or gluten-free friend there. Vegetarian options: Menu is 100% vegan Dietary restrictions: Menu is 100% gluten-free and Kosher
We had chosen Planted in Hamilton as the food catering option for an event that my organization was hosting. The service and experience that we received was exceptional. Emily went above and beyond to ensure that all of our needs were met. On behalf of the ISC, thank you Emily and the team at Planted!
Excellent food, even if you re not vegan. And the service and ambiance are fantastic as well. Great option for Kosher diners.
Quality with test
Amazing delicious food. A hidden gem!
Went with a friend, and each order was delicious. Very generous portions, including the Reuben sandwich I ordered. Highly recommend.
We recently ordered from Planted s catering menu and had it delivered - 5/5 for sure! We were so impressed with both the quality and quantity of the food. Will recommend this often :)
The best gluten free donuts and fries I ve had anywhere ever!!!! Safe for severe celiacs. The only issue is a stomach ache from eating too much.
Had the Mac N Cheese it was honestly the best pasta I ever had! The veggies in it were really nice and flavourful. The service was very friendly as well :)
We had a wonderful meal and fantastic service here, the staff were kind and helpful with the baby too. And everything gluten free! So perfect.
We ordered two breakfast bowls, they were delicious, could have used more tofu scramble and less potatoes otherwise we loved it.
I went a little while ago and I got a doughnut and I m not sure if it had gluten in it but I got incredibly sick after eating it.
It was little pricey but the food was delicious!
Finally made it here after seeing all the amazing photos of daily specials. Very lovely decor and space. Service is incredible and food is great. Had the grilled cheese, curry butternut squash soup and grilled zatar veggies. Fantastic . I also bought day old donut but sadly too dry, poppy seed cake yum! Brownies a miss for me. Overall great experience!
We have been visiting the Planted in Hamilton Bakery for a couple years now and we decided to order our wedding desserts from them and they were DELICIOUS!! We ordered sprinkle donuts, brownies and chocolate chip cookies and everyone LOVED them!! They delivered the desserts right on time and we were pleasantly surprised at how large the desserts were (we ordered minis and were nervous that we didnt order enough!). We definitely orderd enough as we had lots of left overs for us to enjoy days after the wedding! Thank you so much for your delicious treats!!
Oh my god this place... Coolest vibe ever and delicious vegan yumminess. Now I dont even mind driving my daughter back to Mac...
Love this place.
A superb place especially for vegans. Lots of options. Planted uses foods natural flavours and textures creating simple but delicious dishes.
Great food at reasonable prices, particularly impressed by sweet potato bisque soup w laffa bread, ordered separately for $1.50! Well done.
Great vegan/gluten free food, would be suitable for those who have no dietary restrictions, too. Reasonably priced, friendly staff and inclusive environment.
Dietary restrictions: All vegan and gf!! All delicious even for non vegans! Food
Ordered takeout and the lentil sausage was completely charred on both sides. Isn t someone monitoring the kitchen? Wish I could share the pictures I m showing to the health department!
