I regret to say that my recent visits over the last two nights were quite disappointing. I have dined here a few times before, particularly during my son's recruitment, and during those occasions, we were treated well. However, this time the experience was far from pleasant. While I understand the need to be on a waiting list, it felt as though we were overlooked unless I personally approached the hostess for updates. I had mentioned that my father needed to eat soon due to his medication, but despite this, we waited over an hour to be seated and then well over another hour for our food. During this time, other tables were seated, served, and left, while we continued to wait. When our food finally arrived, it was cold and stale, and I lost my appetite entirely. This happened to us two nights in a row, which makes it feel quite intentional. Though it was a busy Friday lastnight, by the time we were seated at 8:30, there were several empty tables available. I'm not sure if the delay was deliberate or simply an oversight, but it certainly felt like we were treated differently compared to other guests, who were seated promptly after being called by the hostess. This unfortunate experience left us feeling disregarded, and as a result, we won't be returning. It’s a shame, as previous visits had been positive, but after this, we no longer feel welcome.

Title: Festive Breakfast at Pine Restaurant☕️🥯 Review: During our quick tour of Dartmouth College, we found ourselves at Pine Restaurant, conveniently located right in front of the university's main park. Visiting on Christmas Day at 7 in the morning, it was a relief to find it open when most places were closed. The atmosphere inside was absolutely amazing, adorned with festive decorations that added to our holiday experience. However, it's worth noting that the food prices are on the higher side. I ordered toast with cheesecake and a latte, which was so generous in portion that I couldn't finish it and had to take the rest with me. My daughter opted for the Dartmouth breakfast, and my husband enjoyed pancakes with regular coffee. Each dish was well-prepared and delicious, making our Christmas morning breakfast a memorable one. Pine Restaurant is a great spot for a special breakfast, especially if you're visiting the college.

Our large group had a great time at Pine. The shared appetizers were delicious and disappeared quickly, and the main courses were also good, although I would have expected better for the price. On the downside, our drinks took a long time to arrive, and the acoustics made it difficult to have a conversation at times. However, the positive aspects of our experience outweighed the negatives, and we would recommend Pine to others, especially those who are looking for a fun and lively atmosphere.

Perfect place for fine-dining in the Upper Valley! Loved the atmosphere, decor, and the service! Food-wise, Lobster Benedict and Crab cakes were my top favorites! Other items that I liked was the Day-in-Milan sandwich and the Faroe Island Salmon. Price would be ~ $30/head for lunch (w/o alcohol).

Had a lovely lunch here before flying back to New York via Lebanon. I had the lobster BLT and it was a well-balanced dish with generous lobster portions. The fries were also crispy. Dessert was also really yummy and my friend enjoyed her bday treat! Franky was very polite and accommodating. Christina was lovely as front of the house.

Desserts were yummy and food presentation was great. Aside from that, I don't really have any other positive review. My wife and I came here for our anniversary. We made reservations online and got seated promptly. It will be about 10 minutes before our server gets to us though. A manager poured us some water while we waited. Now, here's the fun part. The pork loin appetizer was very tough. This is the first time we went to a "fine dining" that sold very tough pork. It was a chore to just eat the small dish. The ossetra caviar, such an expensive ingredient barely shined and drowned in the grease of the potato mille feiulle. The ribeye at $57, ordered medium-rare, was incredibly stringy. What does that tell us? That the cut is cheap and very poor and the restaurant is ripping off its customers. Paella was underwhelming. I get the "modern" twist on it but it was honestly bland. It seemed like the rice was only cooked with saffron water and nothing else. The seafood wasn't cooked with the rice so there was no other flavor unlike a regular paella. Dessert was the best part of the evening. We were very hesitant about it because of how underwhelming everything is but we decided to complete the night. Please hire a better chef! One with pride in his work!

We really wanted to like this place. The food was absolutely excellent. That aside, the loss of stars occurred from certain expectations: for a table of four where three people ordered the same entree, remembering who got what should be easy. Drink delivery times were very slow and we had to grab some of our silverware from another table. The waitress didn’t know the menu and even with making a reservation, instead of simply being nicely told that the table wasn’t yet ready and shown somewhere like the bar, we were told that the hostess couldn’t possibly predict when guests will leave their table and to just go wait in the lobby. Obvious about wait times but the absolute worst way to approach such a situation. Also, when you make a reservation and are up front that you have vegetarian guests, you should be told how the menu of a very few select items can or cannot be made to fit your needs. Again, food was good but the experience was made fun by our friends, not the restaurant. Two stars only for the food quality.

Lack of communication amongst staff and with us was poor. Ordered tenderloin from the menu but was served a ribeye instead. When questioned we were told they did not have tenderloin and chose without asking to substitute the order. It would have seemed appropriate to be informed so that another menu choice could have been made. Secondly, upon finishing a glass of wine, a sediment was noticed in the bottom of the glass. The person who delivered the food was notified, took the glass and never returned with an answer of what it was. We subsequently asked our server and she could not offer an explanation. There clearly was a lack of management presence and oversight. For this reason, we would not recommend this restaurant.

The service was horrible. We waited for 15 minutes for a server to come take our drink order and another 30 minutes for the drinks to get to our table. My dinner was cold when I received it and it took the 20 minutes to warm it up. This place doesn t seem to care about satisfying customers. Food was average at best.

As many recent reviews note, the food is mediocre and not worth the fine dining price. My wifes tenderloin medallions came out cooked perfectly medium-rare, but they were cold. She sent them back to be heated up, and they came back medium-well. The leek puree overpowered the dish and made the sides almost inedible. My seafood risotto was worse. The parmesan cheese sauce was very basic, and the rissotto was not very creamy. The dish came with one cold scallop, 3 small, overcooked/broiled shrimp, and 2-3 small pieces of lobster. I asked our waiter if the seafood was cooked together considering the different temperatures, and he laughed it off and assured me it was. He also laughed about my wifes cold tenderloins and explained it was likely due to resting the meat before serving. The manager never spoke to us even after we sent my wifes entree back to be heated up. The calamari with the smoked bluefish dip was very good, as was the bread service. The only two highlights of our meal. The dining room and bar are beautifully designed, and the location in downtown Hanover is great. However, we will not be returning unless Pines reviews get consistently better.

Always hope it ll be better.. but it never is at Pine. Overpriced, overcooked, over it Service was incredibly slow (20mins before some came). Couldn t get any answers answered and felt my energy being sucked. The food seems like it should be good, but they ruin all of it by over cooking it or putting the good aspects of the meal in some diluting substance. It s so expensive, and can t believe what they put out given the price. The space is cool with nice finishes and solid decor. End of the day it s one of the only fine dining spaces in the Upper Valley, but I d look elsewhere given the insane cost and lack on quality dishes.

I don t know what s going on here w/ service/staffing. Must be understaffed. Stayed at hotel and went here 3 x s in April/May 24 and service was universally bad every time. Things like waiting 25 mins to even have someone approach my table. Spending over 2 hours for two appetizers and two drinks. Surly waitstaff. People at tables next to me were also incredulous. Would not recommend. Only bright spot was a very friendly competant/bartender.

Had a great experience at the bar. Drinks & cheese/meat plate were great. Bar staff very nice. When seated it went downhill from there. I had the Wedge Salad & Bouillabaisse. The salad was presented nicely but was not good. The blue cheese dressing was tasteless. The lettuce was watery. 3 hunks of bacon were plopped on top of wedge...weird to cut up & eat. The Bouillabaisse was terrible. It was bland, unsalted, and just awful. It came with fish, shrimp, & octopus. I told the server I didnt care for octopus so they put squid instead. It was a solid tube of squid (huge,.not cut up) laying in the bowl when placed on the table. When I went to cut it and it was impossible to cut much less eat. It was like trying to eat a car tire. The shrimp were overcooked and large which I dont care for. The large piece of bread layer across the bowl was soggy with the water broth & not good eithet I contemplated on sending back but I just rarely do that and ultimately did not. I regret that. I picked out the fish & ate that and table bread. My husband said his food was good.

December 22, 2023

Such a disappointment on New Years Eve - expensive bad meal and food poisoning!! We had a great meal at Pine in summer 2020 and I ve been wanting to return ever since, so I was so excited for our visit. Started out badly when the hostess sat us at a weird table behind a column, even though other tables were free. We asked if we could sit at a table by the window but she said no it was a four top. She did move us to a slightly better table, but then 10 minutes later sat a couple at the window table! After that bad start things improved with our cocktails which were excellent. I ordered zataar roasted vegetable appetizer which had no sign of zataar so that was disappointing. My partner got a salad which could have been made by a ten year old, just lettuce a dressing, very disappointing. Entrees were worse. He had farro which was just gross, so sweet it should have been a dessert. I had fish which was over cooked and served with just a huge pile of onions?? Dessert was ok, we had chocolate whisky cake. But the worst part was my food poisoning which started about an hour later. I hope this restaurant gets its act together again because it is a beautiful space.

Wife and I had a great time. Pinot noir and the old fashioned with sage were perfect. We started with the cheese plate, would have liked a quick run down on the cheeses, but thats no biggie. The scallops and parsnip puree were delicious, the blueberry sauce blended nicely. Wife had the short ribs over polenta, which was very tender and flavorful. A bit pricey but I knew that going in to the evening.

Very lovely dining area with a nice modern style. The food was fantastic. We had a local charcuterie to start. I had the scallops while my husband had the braised rib. The server and chef were very accommodating when I asked if the scallops could be made without almonds. Again, the food was delicious. The braised rib just fell apart, and the scallops were perfect. To finish, we had the peanut butter tart. Our server described it as a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup on steroids, and he wasnt wrong. Price-wise, this was an expensive meal, but its worth it for a special occasion and well worth splurging when you do go.

Pine benefits from being the only fine dining experience in the area, but honestly, just drive a little further and go to Simon Pearce or the Woodstock Inn if you want a meal commensurate with what you are paying. I always get the sense that the chef at Pine is either a little clueless, doesnt care, or isnt training his/her people very well. The food is just not that great--some dishes are good, like the burger, but some are just not good at all, like the cauliflower, which is cut into all different sizes and hence cooks really unevenly. Overall the food is just kind of meh and really not worth the prices. Parking: they have valet parking

Told the waitress I had a dairy allergy then halfway into my dish I realized it had cheese. Showed her the cheese after and she said no that s not cheese (it was). Then never took responsibility or apologized. Comped our drinks and said if a manager was there she would have gotten them to comp my meal but said they d take care of me when I came back. First of all am coming from out of town and probably won t be back anyway. Second of all why would I every come back after they gave me the thing I m allergic to and never took responsibility or acknowledged it. I got very sick afterwards.

Went for a Sunday after rush time dinner and it was a mess in there. Hostess group were disorganized and the restaurant was, behind on reservations but they clearly hadnt call their reservations to let them know. Couldnt get a table for one at all. Was told my best chance was a bar seat or the two lounge tables which was fine, but no seats open at the bar for almost an hour. Bar staff were doing the best they could with all their orders but it made them highly inattentive to people at the actual bar (where I ended up sitting). Food was just ok but the atmosphere and eyeball appeal is good, too bad the food appeal isnt there too.

I don t know how to explain this place other than it being disappointing and sub-par in regards to food, setting and service. I was initially excited to come here. I came in from Austin to visit family and found this spot prior to my visit. My family in the area had slightly urged us to not go. And I didn t understand why, until I went. The regulars that come in must be a small select few of locals if that. This restaurant felt like stepping into the movie The Stepford Wives - pretentious and unauthentic. The food took quite a while to actually make it to our table, which I don t have a problem with. But our server was inattentive and for the few times he stopped by, he seemed rather aloof, out of it, or just didn t want to be there. When we did get our food, it was less then spectacular. Drinks were expensive and unbalanced, scallops were cold and the risotto was so underdone, it wasn t enjoyable. If you want to spend money on sub-par food and service, this is the place for you. However, if you want something authentic and not pretentious, look elsewhere.

Went here to celebrate a birthday recently and the experience was so amazing I was inspired to write a review. They bent over backwards to treat us like royalty from the start. The service was smoothly sophisticated and, honestly, felt like First Class service on a trans-Atlantic flight. You felt like you were in capable hands, so super relaxing, but not snobby & affected. Just what we were looking for. I was surprised to find this in a relatively small town like Hanover as opposed to London, NY, etc. The food was as good as the service. I had, probably the best steak ever, and our cocktails were supreme, I could go on & on. I also love the décor and how it is all laid out. Thank you Pine for making it a great evening! really not what it used to be, super disappointing. Could used to always count on PINE for an exciting and satisfying meal, but this new menu (and chef?) is not doing it for. Got a big plate that is not even the size of an appetizer . slightly burnt on the edges, over vinegary side. Not sure who they re trying to please with food like this.

December 22, 2022

As a local who has been to Pine many times over the past 10 years, wow, a new low point for the restaurant. Prices have soared, but the quality of the food has really gone down. Ordered a small plate, Cocoa Dusted Ora King Salmon Crudo ($14), and a large plate, Lemongrass and Ginger Poached Black Cod ($39). Both dishes were uninspired, poorly seasoned, and miniscule in size. Pine has a nice ambience and good service to offer, but the cuisine is a huge disappointment. The business model appears to be to cater to tourists and the Dartmouth reunion crowd people who wont be back anytime soon. My advice: go to Pine for a drink, but reserve a table for dinner elsewhere.

I dont write many reviews, and I have NEVER given anyone a one star review, or even thought about giving a one star review so this is a first for me. Came to town for a day trip and was staying that the hotel. Saw the 3.5 star review on Yelp and kind of wanted to change the reservation but went to google and saw a 4+ star rating and thought we would keep the reservation...big regret. Got there early to have a drink at the bar and it was pretty empty so we spotted a nice table and asked if we could sit there. They said they would see what they could do.. which was kind of odd seeing as it was dead inside and they didnt say that anyone else had requested that table. So we get cocktails and we have one person in our party ask if we could sit early since it seemed slow. She said that we would be seated in 5 minutes. Meanwhile, the hostesses werent doing much and we waited closer to 10 minutes and got the table that we wanted that had been sitting empty the whole time we were there, yay! Bread service at the beginning--bread wasnt fresh, was stale. We order some food from the bar menu, nothing too impressive and super tiny portions. Deviled egg trio was good, nice and whipped, good flavor. Service was scarce...water glasses needed refilling and one person in the party ordered a second glass of wine to go with their entree that never arrived. Main courses-- The ribeye was the best out of all the rest BUT the asparagus was inedible, overcooked and couldnt even cut it. One got the $37 paella which is an embarrassment to the dish. Not served in the traditional paella pot, the smallest portion, the size of a closed fist. The dish is described as Octopus, Squid, and Shrimp on the Plancha, Saffron and Chorizo Socarrat Cake, Fried Shishito, Pea Tendrils. Flavor was lacking and...there was ketchup...yes KETCHUP, straight of out of the bottle, which wasnt even on the menu description. EEEKKK. Halibut dish, looked good but flavor was lacking and it was over cooked. I can count on less than one hand how many times Ive seen my family members used the salt and pepper at a restaurant. I was actually shocked at how many times we used salt and pepper and it still didnt really help. The milk and kumquat braised loin Puree of Jerusalem Artichoke, Bacon and Brown Bread Panzanella...oh boy. Im picturing a stunning, falling apart, melt in your mouth BRAISED pork loin and it was everything but. First off... 100000% not braised. It was a grilled or sautéed pork chop loin, like the thick ones you can buy at the grocery store. Was tough and the artichoke purée was cold..not even a little bit warm. The panzanella and everything else on the plate was so sweet. I was wanting some salt and more savory flavors but none to be found. Desserts were the only redeeming thing for the evening. We ordered all 3 and a scoop of ice cream and all were good. Got the bill before the table was cleared and the bill was picked up before the table was cleared. We flagged down our waitress to ask for more wine glasses since we had a lot left and managed to get them pretty quickly, PRAISE! I understand this is a super small town, but with prices like this and the menu that looked amazing... it was very underwhelming. Our group was visiting from Texas and even though we are a family of restaurateurs and are spoiled with the Houston food scene, the place missed the mark on every level-- service & hospitality and food & flavor. Definitely would not recommend this place. Youre better off trying some college kid food places. Also-- wouldve told our server these issues, but she did not ask once if we were enjoying our meals or anything in that regard. Just said that she hoped we enjoyed everything after she picked up the bill. Doesnt seem like they really care if we truly enjoyed or not. 2/4 of our entrees were barely touched. Also, no idea if there is a manager here because we never saw them walking around and they definitely didnt visit our table. Oh well.

Sad to have to post a negative review, but we and family members have had memorably good meals many times at Pine over many years, including just a few months ago. The menu has significantly changed, apparently with a shift in kitchen leadership. The best dishes we ordered were just meh. Prices are very high relative to the standard of food or service. Given all the meals we ve had here in the past it didn t occur to me to check reviews, but if you sort by recency, you ll see that we re not alone in feeling that Pine has gone steeply and sadly downhill in the last few months.

December 22, 2022

The service level and food quality are way down. On our last visit with half the tables empty we were told we would have to stand and wait 15 minutes with one of our party hardly able to walk. We were refused a table to sit and wait.We went elsewhere. Recent meals there reveal an uninspired menu that never changes. Food quality is down since the old chef quit. Management is non-existent. We had a friend who had a similar unpleasant experience where upon telling the waitress, after she inquired, how the food was indicated that it was a poor entree. The manager came over and basically said....tough. I realize that this is owned by the College which is badly run as well, but it is a shame they cant try to do better.

I had an early dinner during my stay at The Hanover Inn. The food was good though not outstanding - not as good as the promising menu descriptions and prices would suggest. Also, My server was very attentive.

Used to love this place, as it was upscale and cozy at the same time, with delicious food and drinks. Sadly, with the new chef, the menu is now pretentious and overpriced. Hope the old days will return!

Excellent meal every time we visit! Tonight we were served by Luke who provided a wonderful experience. He was there when needed and was super attentive. The atmosphere is upscale with a simple elegance. The staff is very well trained which is a credit to management. The bar is staffed by talented mixologists and the chef turns out flawless and delicious small plates and entrees. The menu is concise but we ll rounded with something for everyone. Our selections on this trip we re the roasted beets, and the pork belly small plates, the miso & honey glazed chicken breast, and the aged ribeye entrees . all unbelievably delicious and served as works of art. The desserts are some of the best you ll find anywhere. The Cheesecake and Panna Cotta are our favorites. Book well in advance as this is a popular spot in Hanover. You ll be happy that you did.

We went for brunch on my birthday. I had visited this establishment many times in the past. We were treated very poorly by the hostess, plenty of seats but was turned away because of (short staff) we will never go back. . Sorry I wasnt in a suit or dressed in Dartmouth apparel.

Dessert was super good too.We had a great night out and we will definitely come back for another dinner at the Pine restaurant.

Worst $ I have spent in a while. I went last week, early Monday. Ive been coming here since it opened years ago. The ambiance is nice. But otherwise, over the years I have been consistently and increasingly underwhelmed, and the recent visit is no exception. The General Tsos Octopus was OK. The peppers gave a nice heat and the dish worked overall. Nothing special though. The Spicy Duck Confit was barely eatable. A couple small pieces of stringy, overcooked duck (could have been any animal) meat that had the taste and texture of old turkey, though the taste of the entire dish (not that it was something to be desired) was overwhelmed by an intense saltiness and heat. That was all you could taste. A ZERO on the value scale- a bowl of pasta with scant meat and veggies that tasted tike it belonged in an 5.99$ all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet. I told the disinterested waitress, who didnt check in anytime during the meal, about the flavor. She responded that she had heard it was salty, and left to came back with the check. If you want fancy ambiance, this is a nice place. If you want OK, albeit, way overpriced food, you would do well to stay with restaurant standards. If you want next level cooking, or try something interesting and different that you may not pull off at home, go somewhere else. Pine cant pull it off either.

The food was decent. The ambiance was great but our service was horrible. First, the server was not notified that she had our table so it took like 10-15mins before we got our waters. Then, when we got our food, she never once checked on us until we asked for the check. For the amount that we paid, we had expected better service.

The setting is beautiful but know that is what you are paying for. I went there for lunch with my mom last week and the menu is limited to say the least. I ordered a burger medium rare and it was served well with icky fries. My mom had the pork belly buns which were OK but a little flabby. Our waitress alternated between condescending and apathetic. Did I mention its crazy expensive? Maybe dinner is better but I wont be risking it.

Slow service Lousy drink - asked for monkey 47 and splash of tonic - came loaded with tonic - couldnt taste the gin beet and strawberry salad with baby greens - approx 6 piecs of tiny lettuce no check back to fill water glass long wait for dessert menu - once we received it just asked for check not worth it at all

Waited for over an hour before being waited on, and another 20 minutes for a drink (only a beer, ordered at the same time as a beet and strawberry salad, which sounded great). Salad arrived another 15 minutes later, and was embarrassingly small, see the attached photo. Three or four total pieces of greens. We had to grab our own water refills from the waiting stations, and this was a Tuesday night. I expected much more from Pine based on past corporate event experiences, but was let down tonight.

Refused to serve vegetarian food. I took a strictly vegetarian friend of mine to lunch here and he couldnt eat anything from the menu. They wouldnt provide him with any accommodations. Terrible experience especially considering the price.

Despite all that, I find some dishes can be slightly heavy.

good god brunch was awful. we ordered two plates of food recommended by the haughty waiter. inedible, indistinguishable. two bloody marys came without any garnish. i am a serious alcoholic, and have never been served such a sad sack drink. i mean my liver is toast. which sounds like a better breakfast than what we were served. couldnt get coffee to save my life. the place was empty, the mood dour. and all for 120.00 $ with the tip. heres a tip: walk over to Lous, wait in line. or eat your own liver.

The watercress and brussel sprout salad was good. The fish was not good...it just wasn t to my taste. The Oreo cake was just OK...there wasn t enough ice cream and the cake was too cold/dense. We were sat at a table tucked away on a forgotten wall by the kitchen and emergency exit. It took 10 minutes for someone to bring us water, and another 5 minutes before a server came to our table. We ordered two cocktails, which were fine, and the blistered shishito peppers. They were anything but blistered, bordering on soggy. We ordered the pea & mint ravioli and the gnocchi. The gnocchi was like eating mashed potatoes, either the pasta doesnt have enough flour or the potatoes inside were soaked. As for the pea & mint ravioli, imagine the smell of a freshly cut lawn...now imagine eating that. We told our server about our experience and he gave us a free slice of cheesecake which was simply fine. All in all, a poor dining experience. The gelato we got across the street at Morano Gelato presented us with a more fulfilling dining experience.

So i had the choice between finish my app and let the burger go from medium rare to medium or start eating burger and then eat a cold app. To top it off the waitress tried to take my plate before i was finished eating. I have visited Pine twice since moving to the Upper Valley a few months ago, both times to celebrate a special occasion with my girlfriend. Both times we were taken care of by a gentleman named John, and both times we left feeling extremely satisfied. The food is quite good and varied, and their line of cocktails are both interesting and delicious. But what really makes Pine memorable is the service, and especially how attentive and caring John was. He was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and the sources of our meal, which really elevated our enjoyment and appreciation of our food. He was always nearby to fill a glass or clear the table, while giving us plenty of space and privacy to enjoy our celebration. For the food alone we would return, but that personable touch has made Pine a place we wish to frequent for many years to come.
