Jewel of India started with the simple idea of bringing the best from us to you. In 1992, Balbir & Surjit started this business to fulfill the cravings of Upper Valley. Our dedicated team of seven works hard to transport the dynamic cuisine of Indian subcontinent-whole palette of flavors- to ensure a titillating food experience. We put lots of love and careful thought into all we do. We hope you enjoy all we have to offer, and share the experience with others.
Has the nicest owners and delicious food! Though, I wish they would ask if you plan to use the app but default to in-person interaction. Food was delicious Extra spicy was the perfect spice level on a delicious lamb curry. This makes me think they might consider adding an "are you sure?" spice level.
I have experienced worse food. Such a pathetic restaurant and the food. I have order chilli chicken they served curry chicken . Chicken tikka seems like chicken turmeric water. The chicken tastes and looks so hard like. It’s like you just are eating tar. And the bill was above $100+ nonsense jewel of India
Excellent Customer service and very good food. I highly recommend this Punjabi restaurant for you to get your food. You can do dine in and also have outdoor dining. Delicious food and nice location.
I got the tandoori chicken and lamb danshik. I was very underwhelmed by the tandoori chicken. Very small and VERY dry pieces of chicken -- I do NOT recommend this dish. That said, the lamb danshik was INCREDIBLE. I normally don't like lamb but this curry was bomb dot com. Will definitely try the other lamb curries next time, while steering clear of any tandoori dish. Takeout was easy. The food is by the door under heat lamps, keeping it warm.
This is amazing place! We just had samosas and paneer pakoda for quick bite but I can tell how all the food must be. Chutney with samosas were amazing and very fresh. Will try more things next time but must visit restaurant for authentic Indian food.
We always have an amazing time here and seek it out each time we’re in the area, yesterday was no exception. Delicious food, friendly owners, clean bright building, immaculate restrooms. The chai tea was the best I’ve ever had. House special bread was also incredible.
The Jewel of Hanover! If I go out to eat, I only go to Balbir and Sirgit's authentic royal-style Punjabi restaurant. This place is class 👌 The food is DEELICIOUS healthy! and comforting. Easy online ordering means you don't have to wait your turn for waitstaff, and the food comes quickly! The staff are super friendly and elegant. This place is addictive!!! Prices are more reasonable than what you would expect for the quality! That means it's a reliable quick lunch stop when you're in town, as well as impressive dinner venue! I'm on my way right now😋 ....edited: and here are the pictures! Did NOT disappoint!
Absolutely delicious food! If you love Indian food, then you’ll love this place. The only reason I am rating it lower is because it took about 1.5 hours to get our food. This wasn’t a huge problem, but be aware if time is an issue for you. Their chicken tikka massala is really delicious. I also ate their mango ice cream e which was really tasty.
Their vegetable seekam was delicious. I liked it Food
My family has been dining here for years, great food for a great price. Cant find a better place for Indian cuisine in the Upper Valley!
The best Indian food - and a gulab jamun that makes everything right
Tale out. Very average.
People are very nice! Food is tasty too.
The food was amazing and the customer service was top-tier
Food was okayish, We had ordered Paneer Shahi korma, it didnt have taste and quantity is too less. Could have been better
The server is too rude but the food is good
I ordered takeout Dinner-Spicy Aloo Parantha which I mentioned specifically for spicy. It was totally bland and spoilt my dinner. Being a tourist it wasn t possible for me to go and pick up a replacement. The lady on the phone was a bit rude as well, and she was not ready to understand my problem. Terrible first experience.
Great food! Great service!
Very good food! And good service.
Always on my list when Im in the area. Great food, awesome service, all in a nice house Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp into entracnce
It s the worst place ever. I had to put 1 star because that s minimum. I ve never eaten anything that bland and that tasteless. This place is a joke on Indian food.
amazing food and service! We ordered bunch of different dishes and they were all delicious. Highly recommended.
Vegetarian options: Plenty of paneer dishes Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp, wide aisles
We ate Kofta Curry, Samosa Paneer Butter Masala Chai Garlic & Butter Naan. Samosa was best Kofta curry was not tasteful. Vegetarian options: Many.
Nice ambience... Nice hospitality..Good service..
Awesome restaurant, excellent service and the food quality is great.
Authentic Indian food that is always served fresh! Service is amazing as well. This is a go-to place for me when I m in the area.
Wonderful food, great atmosphere, lovely people. Would highly recommend.
I love this place. Been coming for years. Order Lamb Dilruba if you like mushroom and lamb!
Vegetarian options: As I sit here stuffed from another fantastic dish, I feel like I should tell others how great this place is. First and foremost IT IS CLEAN!!! When you walk in the door and through the restaurant you can see that everything is sparkling clean. Clear view into the kitchen and you see that its spotless as well. I am a vegetarian and my wife is omnivore. I have more vegetarian menu options here than most veg specialty places. I have tried something different every time I have come here and have never been let down. The food is by far the best indian food that I have had and I frequently indulge at Indian restaurants around New England. My wife tends to stick to the chicken dishes, she raves about the mango chicken. The people who run the place are so sweet. They genuinely smile and receive you at the door and welcome you back. The menu is completely on line and I love that it has a picture of every dish so that you know if it looks good or not to you before you order because lets face it, I dont speak the language so I have no idea what I am ordering typically without pictures if its something new. I am always amazed at how quickly the food arrives hot and fresh. I really cant recommend this little jewel enough! Its very reasonably priced as well.
Jewel of India offers very consistent quality, ingredients and flavors. It s by far the best place in town. The staff is ultra friendly, creating an overall warm atmosphere that makes every meal super enjoyable. My all time favorite is the chicken biryani, but all of their products is 10/10!
Delicious authentic Indian food! We loved their lamb shahi Korma and mango lassi! Good service and great prices.
Amazing place and great people :) The lamb Kashmiri, garlic naan, mango lassi combo got me through engineering school
Very rude staff, horrible inauthentic food.
One of the greatest place I ever visited to eat indian food really worth it and highly recommend
A fantastic spot for authentic Indian cuisine. The food is bursting with flavor, with generous portions and a perfect balance of spices. The atmosphere is cozy, and the service is warm and attentive. Highly recommend this gem for a delightful dining experience!
Very nice food and good service in modest surroundings.
Love this hidden jewel. The staff is fantastic & everything is so clean. The way that you order is different from anywhere else. Normally I don t like the QR code for the menu, but they have made it wonderful.Their menu is nicely laid out AND has great pictures all of their dishes. You order straight from your phone. I tend to get anxiety when trying to order & this system works out so well. I don t feel rushed or pressured by a super busy waitress & can order when ready. And the food is so good!!! I usually get the mango chicken, spicy. Hubs is a vegetarian & there is a lot of those dishes as well. He only lets me have a few bites but they have all tasted great too.
Not bad, samosas were great and flavorful. Naan was tasty, but not as done as I would have preferred, more like baked then tandoori naan. Butter chicken was ok, didn t have the flavor profile I m used to, rice was bland and not very good. Worth a visit. Going to try again and update again. Will keep you posted huh
Consistently delicious, flavorful Indian food--my absolute favorite restaurant for eat-in or take-out. Everyone leaves saying, That was sooo good. My kids are picky eaters but miraculously they love chickpea sauce (chana masala punjabi). When you order food mild, it is actually mild. I like it medium, and it comes actually medium. Our family is mostly vegetarian and we love the eggplant, the lentils, the chickpeas, the cauliflower, and most of all the creamy spinach with blocks of homemade cheese (saag paneer). My parents have always loved the chicken with mango and all the lamb dishes. Get the garlic naan, a mango lassi, and a gulab jamun dessert! I never tire of the scents and flavors here. And the owners are always kind, friendly, and very fast.
This is a local go to spot, reliable good Indian food. We always get the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer and naan and it always hits. Great for takeout too!
Love
The jewel of india is simply a jewel - its by far my favorite place to eat in hanover. The food is consistently delicious and surprisingly cheap. Even for a vegetarian like me, there are a large variety of excellent dishes (my favorite is the naan and paneer) - this place is a must-visit for excellent Indian food in hanover
The food was amazing. When I came, I ordered the rhogan josh and matar paneer, along with rotis. The rhogan josh felt homecooked, as if it was made in Punjab, and the paneer was absolutely delicious. All the food came between 5 to 10 minutes and the atmosphere was great to top it off. If you are in Hannover, please come to this restaurant!
The owner is an abusive and cruel old man. He will misbehave with guests and shout at them. I highly recommend avoiding this restaurant. They take advantage of being the only indian restaurant in town.
Worst service ever, very disrespectful to Indians, who visit your restaurant. Horrible behavior of owner. Spoiling name of India. No one should visit this place. Even the food quality is below average. No one should visit
jewel of india restaurant best in the town. Food and customer service amazing. We love your food. We recommmed to everyone . They always welcome us with open arms , with great wormness and greasiousness
woow ,, Really have a great experience by having a scrumptious meal and good hospitality .
Love this place and it is my go to when I m craving Indian food and chicken curry and samosas .and chicken korma and garlic naan those are my absolute favorite dishes! The customer service is great and I m always greeted with a warm smile.
Best Indian restaurant in town, food and service is always good,We always recommend to eat at Jewel Of India
We always go there for lunch and dinner, food and service amazing, price also very reasonable,we recommend jewel of India restaurant Hanover to everyone.
I have consistently encountered poor experiences at Jewel of India, culminating in a particularly disrespectful incident on July 19, 2024. After months of avoiding the restaurant, I decided to give it another chance. I ordered my meal through their QR code, and although the amount was deducted from my Discover credit card, my order did not process. I showed the transaction notification to the staff member assisting me and opted to place my order again, which successfully went through, leading to a second charge on my card. I requested a receipt to ensure that the first transaction would be reversed, and he agreed. He was cordial and respectful. While I was enjoying my meal, the owner, an older man wearing a turban, approached me. He began arguing rudely, insisting that the order had gone through only once and that I needed to resolve it myself. I explained that I had already discussed this with another staff member and would return if the transaction was not reversed. His angry and harsh tone escalated, and when I questioned his behavior, he responded, because I m the owner. Frustrated, I decided to pack my food and leave. This incident is not isolated. Years ago, at their previous location, I ordered aloo gobhi (potato and cauliflower). Upon discovering the cauliflower was undercooked, I requested a redo. The staffs dismissive attitude was palpable, and I overheard them speaking in Punjabi about me, which I understood. They returned the cauliflower (after 20-30min) pieces after microwaving it, leaving it dry and unappetizing. Despite my dissatisfaction, I tipped them. On my next visit, as I sat down, the old man remarked in Punjabi, Gobhi wala agaya hai (the cauliflower guy is back). This blatant mockery was the final straw. Not only was their food subpar, but their behavior towards me was also incredibly disrespectful. One dines out to enjoy a meal and pleasant atmosphere, not to be ridiculed by staff. It was at this point that I decided to boycott the restaurant. Their consistent mistreatment of me, a brown customer, left me feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. On another visit last year, I simply asked to sit by a window, and the owner argued that I needed to bring more guests to warrant such a request, which was unnecessary and rude. As a brown customer, I cant help but wonder if the owner treats white customers with the same disdain. Many of my brown friends have also stopped dining at Jewel of India due to similar experiences of rudeness and disrespect. I am a paying customer, deserving of basic respect and courtesy, not ridicule. In contrast, I frequently dine at Taste of Punjab, a food truck in Lebanon, where the staff is consistently warm and welcoming. This stark difference in customer service only reinforces my decision to avoid Jewel of India in the future.
One of the finest indian restaurant, Im their consumer from atleast a decade my all indian friends and their families first recommendation is always juile of india because of their scrumptious food and their great hospitality everyone welcome us so greasiously and the gesture of their food is really cant describe in words Im really thankful to them to serve us delicious food and lot of love
Every time we visit Hanover, we eat here multiple times. Delicious food and amazing service. Very conveniently located as well. Highly recommend it.
Delicious food, decent portion sizes , excellent service and beautiful view of downtown Hanover.
We used to get takeout from Jewel every week, and I highly recommend it. Its easy and fast to order, the food is always hot and delicious, and it was a highlight of our week. I recommend the chicken shahi korma, the lamb kashmiri, the garlic naan, and the mango lassi!
Chicken Shahi Korma is amazing. I could eat everyday.
Our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed their meals! The vegetable biryani was simply delicious!
You know times are hard when curries get thinned out. This was practically water. My garlic naan was completely cold to the touch.
Great food!
Today I did a large order for my work group lunch. We werent given 2 of our dishes. Upon placing a call the worker and manager argued with me stating I did receive the dishes and I was just trying to get free food. As this was a company lunch I wasnt even paying for the food either way. After 20 minutes of arguing I had to hand the phone to a coworker. We may or may not get refunded for the dishes we did not receive. I have never been treated this way in my entire life and will not be returning!
The service was not great, if you can call what you get there service. You place your order on your phone even for dine in and then no one checks on you. We had to remind them about our naan and our dessert. When we enquired about these things they had an attitude about it. We ordered our food spicy and it was so bland that Gerber jarred baby food has more seasoning. I absolutely would not recommend this place and will not be returning.
Very delicious food
another good meal. excellent lamb vindaloo, chai, and garlic nan that is outstanding.
The food is always delicious and too quality. The best samosas ever!! My favorite if the lamb korma. I have been going here for 9 years and have never had a bad experience. The staff is lovely, helpful, and inviting.
One of my favorite places! Have been going here for over a decade, and now always visit when Im back in town. I always order the vegetable pakora, garlic naan, and chicken saag- but everything our group orders is very good! Prices are very reasonable, and service is fast. Also have an abundant veggie menu, which is great for a group meal, and you can choose the spiciness, which is just a step above. Cannot recommend enough! Vegetarian options: Plenty of veggie options- much more than Ive seen at other restaurants in the area.
Food is great. I am local and its the best Indian food in town. Also mostly gluten friendly aside from bread. And great and vegan option. Dietary restrictions: All gluten free except for the samosa and Naan bread. My wife is intolerant and she has never gotten sick there in a decade
This Indian restaurant was my Wife s favorite. We went there for her birthday and asked for our favorite table and were refused to sit there as it was empty and set for four people . It was a Monday early evening, they only had 3 customers in the entire dining room. We left, as we felt it was a rude and unfriendly way to be treated.
Always a treat. Fair price for the quality.
Great food. We ordered thru a QR code. Fast and easy, but a check in would be nice.
Jewel of India is a well-established restaurant with a very good menu, full of items traditional to northwestern India. I recommend all of the Tandoori dishes, as well as the Lamb Vindaloo, Rogan Josh, and biriyani. An unfortunate result of the COVID-19 pandemic is that table service and menus have been eliminated. The menu is solely available via QR code on your mobile device, and dine in orders are made online. The net effect is that Jewel of India is essentially now a takeout with tables where you can eat inside. This has significantly reduced interaction between staff and patrons, and it dampens the atmosphere. Dietary restrictions: Masala tea is delicious and good for folks who are diabetic or need to avoid sugars.
Service was okay, the staff were not too friendly and the atmosphere was okay. I ordered shrimp curry and I think the shrimp was a bit overdone. The samosas were yummy though and I liked the biryani. Overall, it was an okay time but would not dine in again.
Worst service Ive experienced in my life. A drink I ordered was missing from my delivery, and when I called, just got yelled by an angry man who hung up on me. Will never eat here again.
Amazing food, atmosphere, and service! I dine in and take out often. Vegetarian options: Outstanding!
Very good people. The food was excellent but thats not the reason I am writing this review. Our car battery died due to extreme cold and the good people from the Jewel of India dropped us home. <3 Recommended for both hospitality and food.
Worst restaurant that I have ever dined in. Leave food, even the owner/server are rude af. One can get away with bad food for once but this restaurant is a combination of bad food and bad people. They do not know how take criticism. They even denied us spoons and spoke rudely right from the beginning. Food is not bad, it is inedible. I would not visit the restaurant even if someone pays me to eat here again.
Worst Indian food ever I have ate. Malai kofta is just stuffed with carrots & served with burnt roti. When we report about bad food to staff their attitude was worst than their food, female in the restaurant was so rude, they dint even give extra spoon when we requested. I ll never come back to this restaurant. Ppl don t waste your money and don t spoil your taste buds and stomach.
Delicious! Highly recommend! Will be back!
If you re looking for a delicious Indian meal, I highly recommended this restaurant. Delicious, flavorful food, about a 15-30 minute wait for food, and friendly service.
I enjoy leaving positive reviews, and I do often. However, today, I feel compelled to be honest about MY experience. In so way am I suggesting that this is a bad restaurant or that you should not go there. I am simply telling you that MY experience will prevent me from ever returning, and you should be aware in case you too find yourself in a similar experience and maybe are better prepared to respond WHILE you are there (which I did not). Yes, I should have. I was with a guest, was embarrassed, and didnt want to take away from or create a distration to our experience. We were the only two people in the restaurant for lunch. Our server (who seemed like he may have been the owner) had very little to say to us and seemed annoyed that we wanted to sit and dine in. The look on his face while he poured our water suggested he was frustrated being there. As he walked away I asked for a menu. He turned around and said you can scan the QR code on the table. I told him I didnt have my phone with me. Without saying anything, he walked away, returned with two menus and tossed them on the table before walking away. My friend looked at me and said wow, hes having a rough day. Even though we were the only two in the restaurant, it took WAY too long before he returned to take our order. After we gave our order he walked away without saying anything. I said excuse me, would it be possible to have my order medium to hot spice? He nodded and walked off. Our meals were 1) warm and 2) my meal was mild (very mild). Frankly, the sauce tasted like it was from a jar (which I have had). It most certainly did not taste home-made. Our rice was also cold, and not thoroughly cooked either. Our server NEVER returned to ask if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our meal. Actually, we never saw him until 20 minutes AFTER we finished our meals when he returned with the check (NOT separate checks as I had asked). He said nothing, only dropping the slip on the table (without a pen). I waited at the register for several minutes as my friend went out to make sure our parking meter hadnt expired. I even contemplated just walking about. I was furious at this point. He finally came out of the kitchen, still without saying anything, looking annoyed and reached his hand to me for my card, never asking how was everything. After he ran my card he ripped the receipt and literally threw it at me while he was turning to walk away. I almost said something at this point but stood there in disbelief. I will NEVER return to The Jewel Of India. If you go, be prepared on how YOU will respond if you are starting to have the same experience I had.
We had an excellent experience in every way. The food was some of the best I have ever had at any restaurant. We ordered way too much food just to try a variety and it was all excellent. There were large portions and very reasonable prices. Thank you Jewel of India!
Upon entering with my party, I was brought to a table from who I believe was the owner. We sat down and we re never handed menus or silverware. The owner told me to use the QR code found on the table. I insisted that it wasn t working on my phone, and he seemed irritated by that. He left our table frustrated and didn t return for about 10-15 minutes. By this time, I got up and went looking for him to ask for said menus. I was directed to get takeout menus from the entrance. He then followed me with a water jug, and left again for another 10-15 minutes then came back to took our orders. Insisting it would be quicker with the QR code. He presented taking our table s orders with frustration. Upon receiving the dishes, he placed them down and with the lack of the space on the table - the gentleman muttered, Do I have to do everything? and rearranged them. To be frank, I didn t feel comfortable eating in this establishment given his attitude and treatment towards us.
The best Indian food around.
Go to for Indian food for me. Love the Chana poori, mango lassi, homemade mango ice cream, chicken biryani.
Food here is decent and as much as I would love to give a good review there is so much negative experience with this location latley i cant. I work for a local delivery company whom gets orders from here to deliver all the time. The last few times food has not even started to be prepared by time its should be delivered to customers. Staff has ignored us (turned there backs to us when we speak to them) and been very rude. So much so we have reported them and refuse to pick up orders for local customers there anymore. This place used to be a pleasure to deal with but recently service has been horrible. Short staffing doesnt excuse rudeness.
Delicious food . Mr. Singh thanku.
I ordered medium, and asked if that would be spicy and they said yes. I am used to medium leaving your eyes & nose running and your body sweating, while hot will empty your lungs and sinuses of all phlegm. It was not hot at all, and it also lacked the depth of flavor. Everything tasted a little watery, even the samosas, somehow. I dont know if its a regional thing, its our first time getting Indian food in New England. It was not quite to the level of middling.
The food is good. Not terribly spicy, seems toned down for the audience. Tandoori chicken was good, mulligatawny soup was excellent, lamb excellent. Ordering from QR code a bit odd, but fine. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options.
Great food at reasonable prices. They use a hands off ordering system, so service is a bit spotty as you order on your phone.
The server is pretty rude and mean to us for no reason.
We just love this restaurant. The food and service are excellent.
Everything from the ordering to the serving of food was excellent. Food was tasty and fresh. They were able to accommodate us even though we came in late. Truly an Indian jewel in Hanover. Will definitely pass by next time we visit the city.
Great family run place! Delicious food, and ordering with the QR code menu was easy. Highly recommend!
For an Indian restaurant that mostly serves white people in the Upper Valley, this restaurant is actually pretty decent, as long as you stick to the basics. Avoid the malai kofta (too sweet) and chilly paneer (not spicy at all). But the basics here - samosa, paneer masala, aloo gobi, even the baingan bhartha - are pretty good. Of course the food is not spicy, even if you specify for it to be hot, and it s all a bit too oily / greasy. But the naan and kulcha were fresh, the paneer and baingan were pretty tasty, and the mango achaar has a great zing to it. The samosas might have been my favorite thing on the menu. The service is great, and the folks that work here are very nice. All in all, I would recommend this place and will be back, if only because it s the only Indian sit-down restaurant in the Hanover/Lebanon area.
This is a great gem in Hanover. I ate at Jewel of India in 2018 with my Aunt and Uncle and it was fantastic. The goat vindaloo had the rib meat falling off of the bone and amazing flavor. By far the best eat for South Indian food I have had apart from homemade. Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options, though I cannot say it is good for vegans, given that a staple of Indian cooking is ghee (clarified butter). Parking: Parking was easily accessible at the side and back of the restaurant.
The food is awesome
We went for dinner as it wasnt open before 4:30. This place was very cozy and comfortable. It has an interestingly shaped interior, and there is outdoor seating as well, but I did not see what it was like. The ordering process was different than I was used to but very convenient and easy. A device is necessary to scan a QR code at the table that brings you to a site where you choose, customise, and order your desired menu items, which are later delivered to your table. The staff were helpful and kind. The service was surprisingly quick for such seemingly complex dishes. The food was very delicious and satisfying. The portions are decently sized, and the presentation was nice and easy to share among the table if desired. The spice level is customizable to your tastes. The menu is pretty extensive, with many choices for different dietary preferences such as vegan and vegetarian. The prices were somewhat on the higher side, but the experience was definitely worth the cost. I would return for sure to try more dishes. Vegetarian options: There are many vegetarian options and slightly fewer vegan options as dairy (paneer/milk) features in a number of dishes. There were plenty of vegan dishes to choose from, however, and our choices were very satisfying. Be aware that the vegetable appetizer sampler does contain cheese as one of the items. We didnt know until receiving it, but I understand accidents happen. Unfortunately, none of the listed desserts appeared to be vegan as all but one contained dairy, and the remaining one had honey. We were too full from the meal to order dessert anyway, though. Dietary restrictions: Many good options for various dietary preferences or needs. Dishes containing gluten are labeled as such.
There was no gravy in the panner tikka masala and shahi panner korma that we ordered; the gravy was just water. We order vegetable briyani aslo and there was no taste in birayani. Dont go to this restaurant food is not good.
Mediocre. Ordered aloo paratha but got just paratha. They dont give curd with aloo paratha. I bought it on my own, but it was just not edible. Too sour. Skip if you can.
It was a nice restaurant.. Good Indian food. When we went we didnt have to wait for long and service was good
Excellent cuisine. Definitely worth going to. We both loved our dishes!
Food not good
Jewel of India is an absolute culinary gem! The flavors and aromas that emanate from their dishes are a true delight for the senses. The restaurants commitment to authenticity and quality is evident in each dish, (especially with the buttery Chicken Tikka Masala). The warm and welcoming ambiance adds to the overall dining experience. Jewel of India is a shining beacon for those seeking the finest Indian cuisine in Hanover, and I cant recommend it enough for an unforgettable dining adventure.
We eat a lot of Indian food wherever go! This was so super delicious, right on the top of what we ve ever tasted, thank you so much!!!
Taste was good, fair price and polite staff. Curries were pretty thin, watery consistency.
Very good food! Their naan is delicious.
Great food and always friendly service
Food was decent. Customer service disappointing. Food came but no naan. Had to walk in the kitchen to get someones attention.. No follow up, again got up for things needed. Added tip automatically - too bad - I was going to give more due to guilt and food being decent.
Tremendous experience. If you are a food lover youll be abundantly satisfied.
Not anywhere close to authentic Indian food, but satisfies your heart on days youre craving a masala chai, chicken shahi korma and garlic naan. I mean, come on, this is the best Indian food one gets in the US, anyway.
Foods delish
The vegetable biryani and mango lassi were great but I felt extremely uncomfortable eating in the restaurant. The staff made me feel like I was a bother. Maybe because I, as a woman, was eating alone? Obviously did not tip and will not go back unless it s takeout.
This jewel is a cubic zirconia...really really bad ..I couldnt really finish...soup, appetizers, bread, entree...all just horrible...dont do it save your money
We dined here yesterday for the first time. We opted to dine outside because it was extremely hot inside the restaurant. Their split AC system seemed to be blowing hot air. Anyway, the paneer pakora tasted like what I d imagine rubber to taste like. It was tough and flavorless. We ordered mango chicken but got chicken tikka masala instead. Whatever. We are it. It was awful. I imagine that they used the frozen grilled chicken strips doused in a horrible tomato based sauce. It was terrible. The Malai kofta was ok. They forgot to bring our garlic naan. But finally we waved someone down and they brought it to us as our meal was about over. It was good, but we didn t want garlic naan for dessert. We will not be back.
Self-order for dinner in was very frustrating; Instead of placing order in 2 min with server, it took, 20-30 min to just place order online. Wish portions are very small and had to reorder. Server appeared only twice, the ambience was quite depressing. Food quality and taste was okay. We were visiting from Boston area and were expecting better experience.
Jewel Of India Hanover NH. We ordered vegetable pakora they were burnt. Weve had Indian food in Boston and New York and this was the worst Indian food I have ever eaten!!!
Im from the UK & curry there is huge so I missed the cuisine and this was a lovely spot to have a curry. The service is very hands off and youre expected to order using a QR code, its not very well pointed out so we waited 30 minutes without realising. Overall Id go again, its relaxed and good for groups / families, a nice take on the Indian cuisine, just lacks the nice touch of professional service, and the ordering process could be more clearly pointed out.
Super rude. Had take out here before and they were rude on pickup. This week we walked in and asked for dine in and were immediately yelled at.
Man oh man do I love good food and quality customer service. This place has it all. Two weeks ago I got some online take out (lamb vindaloo, a go to for me) expecting some standard fair. Boy oh boy it was tomato sauce and and potatoes, yum. Went in for a sit down experience today and my buddy basically got yelled at for asking if we can dine in. We were rudley beckoned to our seat, then told to order online as if it was obvious. Well, we just left. Not gonna get talked to like that for some mediocre stuff. It wasnt busy, and it costs the older gentleman nothing to be nice. Honestly, dont waste your time, theres better food in town. And to the onwer, glad to see you respond to people promising better service next time but you dont really care do you.
Idk what everyones complaining about, this food was great.
Ordered an Indian feast for 8 via takeout! Everything was delicious, and fed all 8 guests well, with leftovers for 3 the next night! All very well made and authentic tasting!
Weve been eating take out from Jewel of India for years and have loved their curries in particular. We ordered take out last night and got a couple of our favorites and were disappointed that it seems like the recipes have changed - too much spice (cloves I think?) in the Saag Paneer and the Paneer Shahi Korma used to have a rich cream sauce and now its more like a puree type of sauce. Hoping they go back to the old recipes!
Love Jewel of Inida. Highly recommend the chicken Makhini
The go-to Indian restaurant in the area. The food is always delicious, authentic, and high quality!
After a long time I am having a really good tasty authentic lunch. Food is so ummy , feel like eating home made food . I really recommend this place .Imagine I am writing this review while eating ( I am so excited).
One of very few Indian restaurants in the area. Staff is courteous. However, they have an online order system. You have to order online even if you re at a table in the restaurant and a server will get the order to you. I found it a bit frustrating as if you want to order incrementally, you need to pull out your phone, choose what to order, enter the credit card number and order again. Chicken Achari was the worst of its kind I had in US. I found literal achar(mixed pickle) pieces in the gravy.
Got take out on Labor Day! It sure was busy but the staff did an extent job at managing customers as then came in and out. I got to watch a lady have a melt down because her naan was left out of the order (duh lady, they are extra busy, mistakes happen) and she was mad she had to wait a few extra minutes. The lovely lady at the front counter did a great job at handling the situation and was able to get the forgotten things out on the fly. Everything has been super tasty! Totally worth eating here.
Dear Americans if you like this food then please don t consider it Indian food it s something else not Indian. If you don t like the food then please don t get biased with Indian food as Indian food all the way different. Ordered Rogan josh & Chicken Tandoori Rogan Josh was actually Lamb Curry and Chicken Tandoori came with the gravy are you really serious? Chicken tandoori comes with the gravy And yes please be careful while giving the order as they will charge you 20% tip whether you like the food or not
I would certainly not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The curries had watery consistency, lacked flavor on the whole. The naan s were undercooked. The chicken biryani had raw chicken pieces. When I complained to my server who herself was an Indian, she seemed offended and stated that the restaurant had been serving the same quality food for the past 32 years and was famous among the Indians and foreigners. This restaurant clearly needs to work on the quality of food and customer service. I am just hoping that the food my friends and I have eaten would not lead to any poisoning. We just wasted the entire order and the money spent on it. Thankyou :)
The food is exactly what you want when ordering Indian food. Their online ordering is simple and to the point. You go in, and the food is waiting for you on a table, with your name on it, ready to be picked up. Flavor wise, its wonderful. Everything comforting about Indian food is there. Even the naan bread alone is a 10/10. Will be going back any chance I get for this food.
Hungry from a day of driving around central NH, we stopped for food in a town called Hanover. We found this Indian restaurant next to a small college in town. From the dozens of labeled takeout packs under warming lamps near the front door, the place appears to cater to the students, most of which prefer to order via DoorDash or other similar services instead of walking to the restaurant. The establishment was brightly lit, and the hustle and bustle of the waitstaff made for a less than calming atmosphere. The hostess was a terse, efficient m, but otherwise accommodating woman, who instructed us to order online using the QR code at our table. We ve used this approach before to read menus, but it it was strange to have to stumble through the Square interface on our phones an interface that eventually failed to register our order. Explaining this to the hostess, she admitted the system didn t always work, and took out an order pad, making me pause wondering why she d made us go through the hassle for ten minutes. The chicken korma and lamb curry were good, but I ve had much better at home in Houston. The rice was perfect, as was the naan breads (a plain and a raisin filled). Samosas were good but a bit cold. The spices were not too hot nor too mild. It was nice to have a few good beers to select from to accompany our meal. When it came time to pay, I was taken aback by the price. The bill was 30-50% more expensive than a similar meal in Houston, depending on where you were eating. I m not sure if this pricing was because of their location near the small college (and therefore the only Indian restaurant in a convenient distance) or a regional issue. Vegetarian options: It s an Indian food restaurant, so there are a lot of vegetarian options on the menu. Parking: Parking is not easy to find basically parallel slots with pay kiosks.
Once we figured out that the QR code was not just for looking at a menu, but also for ordering, the food arrived quickly. Very flavorful and exactly what we wanted.
If you are craving Indian when in this part of the world, then this is a good option. Otherwise would skip it.
The indian flavours were missing... It tasted american sauces in indian dishes. Simple things like tandoori chicken and butter chicken gravy also tasted not-so-indian. Food
This is the first Indian place I ve been to since moving, and I will not be returning. The first thing I opened was the rice that came with my order, and it smelled and tasted awful. I had a second person confirm, because I was looking for a second opinion, and they also said that it smelled like sewage or some high processed chemicals . Overall, it smelled and tasted spoiled. Since that was my first impression, I no longer had an appetite and did not want to eat the other entree I bought for fear of getting food poisoning.
The best Indian food I have ever had! I go out of my way for it whenever Im in the area. The staff is great. Ive been going for years and never had a bad experience. Make this a stop when youre in town.
Everything we tried here was absolutely delicious. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was ridiculously good, the rice was seasoned so deliciously, and so was the naan with lamb. One of my favorite places now in Hanover/Lebanon area. Only thing is, a heads up, it s not your typical serving atmosphere. It looks like the owners run the place and serve at the same time and it gets busy so they move at a fast pace and ask you to order online. Knowing this going in was super helpful and made the experience more than enjoyable given the amazing quality of the food.
Their lamb in Rogan Josh is tender and juicy. Goes with naan and rice perfectly. That s enough to keep me as a customer.
Not Ivy League Vindaloo, thats for sure.
Absolutely great food with outstanding service. 10/10
I really enjoyed it
Super delicious curries! Love the variety, but my familys fav is definitely chicken shahi korma!
My all time favorite restaurant. The staff is kind and helpful. Ive never had a dish I didnt like (and Ive genuinely eaten there hundreds of times). I cant say enough about how wonderful this restaurant is, and Im so glad they were able to move just down the street from the old location so I can stay a loyal customer.
My favorite Indian restaurant. Ive never tried a dish I didnt like. Paneer Shai Korma is my favorite.
Yummmm!
The Jewel has gotten much better over the last 15 years and prices have not changed much if at all.
As a student at Dartmouth College, I order food from Jewel of India almost weekly. This restaurant not only offers a vast Indian menu, but also prepares its food with authentic Indian spices and ingredients. Whether you are looking for vegetarian or non-vegetarian food, spicy or non-spicy cuisine, an individual or a group order, or simply a new experience, this is the restaurant for you.
my favorite indian food on the planet. best food in Hanover in my opinion.
The onion kulcha is V good!
Would seriously recommend this place. Amazing people who make amazing food. 10/10
The food is OK but one star for the service. I ordered a lunch portion of one of their curries. The man on the phone confirmed that it is OK. After taking the meal home, I noticed the price was expensive for a lunch, and noticed that they charged me the dinner price. I called and asked for a refund for the price difference, but they refused to do so, insisting that that menu can only be ordered in a dinner portion, although it was their mistake. Not ordering food from this place anymore.
I was college touring and ate there and loved it so much I actually put it in under the pros column for Dartmouth when choosing schools.
Honestly I think my favorite thing about this restaurant is their rice. It is so flavorful and delicious! It accompanies any of their (also delicious) entrees so well!
Nothing special, we got the Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Garlic Naan, and Paneer Kulcha. It was a good meal, but nothing out of the world
The food was flavorful and fairly mild for Indian food- So great for all palates. The service left much to be desired- recommend take out here always!
Tasteless appetizers.
The food here is amazing. I highly recommend the lamb vindaloo. Good service, too
This restaurant couldn t make Basic food. Ordered Peas Pulao, the peas were uncooked. Ordered Aloo Paratha and there is no aloo. The waitress told me to mention in the order to add aloo.
Cleaned plates wouldve make more sense! along with the chicken in the tandoori is rotten. The paneer and chicken curry is moderate while nan bread are good. Not an authentic Indian style but average.
This jewel is a GEM! We are lucky to have a few good ethnic restaurants in this culinary backwater and this is definitely one of them
Good food
The peas were hard, the dish didnt taste like anything, the service forgot our bread, and my stomach got upset an hour later.
Good food. Sub par service.
The Jewel of India restaurant is an okayish restaurant with only outdoor seating available. We went there for dinner in the month of October when the weather was around 60 degrees and it was still cold to be seated outside. They had a couple of heaters which provided warmth only to the tables surrounding them. The hand wash and restrooms were weirdly located in the second floor and we were not allowed to go through the inside of the restaurant. The staff asks us to go all the way around the restaurant and enter through the front door to access the washrooms. A couple of staffs here were not too friendly either. Not sure if there were having a bad day. The vegetarian food tasted ok and you are required to place all your orders online and pay for them in advance due to COVID. Not sure if they will be open during the winter as the staff almost panic if they see anyone inside the restaurant.
Food was good for the value.
I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone! Servers for so rude to talk with, food was just okish! They dont know how to respect customers .
Good food. Service is bit slow. Loved the curries. Dont expect good paneer pakoda and biryani. If you plan to dine-in, plan and order everything at once, the add-ons are brought extremely delayed.
Great food and service!
Servers were rude!
The food was phenomenal, and the staff were polite and helpful. Well worth the 40 min. drive for us and we will definitely be returning.
Friendly, fast service with traditional meals. Good portion sizes and wallet favorable. This is a great place for a filling, warm meal shared with friends.
Worst food ever! The chef there even don t know how to make basic food. Won t recommend this place.
Dont have option to enter ZERO. Worst of worst biryani ever had in my whole life., literally It was a bisi bele bath (Sambar rice) with chicken in it.
Love the new location and the food as always is really good! Also the prices are great too for what you get!
Food is always fantastic. Tons of vegetarian/vegan options.
Amazing hospitality and awesome Indian food
Best ever.!!!!
Order Date: October 25th Order number : 167 Do i recommend this place : Nooooooooo Ordered food items: Mulligatwani Soup, Chicken biriyani, Tandoori Fish, Dalmakhani Taste of food: 1 out of 5 Chicken biriyani was just mere yellow rice with tastless bland chicken - was just puzzled and was not able to convince myself that this was chicken biriyani No salt in any dishes - sorry i was staying in hotel and forgot to carry a salt packet with me !!!Really i wish you guys tasted your food atleast once - you will never ever eat your own food again Dalmakhani was okish is the whole bad items and again no salt Look of the food : 0 out 5 I really didn t get the feel to eat the food after looking at the chicken biriyani and Soup Packing: 2 out of 5 Chicken biriyani was packed in regular paper box which is usually used for packing plain white rice, respect the dish ! The only good thing abt the whole order was delivery timing - was delivered in around 35 mins Spoilt my whole night , now i am thinking to help myself with some popcorn to have something PS: please don t call yourself as Jewel of India a humble request
The food is ok but not worth the price. The Naan was very burnt, the chicken in the ticki masala tasted like it was heated frozen chicken.
