3 Lebanon St, Hanover, NH 03755, United States
Popular subterranean cafe serving traditional Nepalese dishes amid warm, exotic decor.
I ordered take-out tarkari curry tofu and mushrooms. Wow! I was surprised at how delicious the dish was! The seasonings were perfect and in-line with the mild level of spice requested. The vegetables were done PERFECTLY -- with a little crispness but easy to chew. I enjoyed the food so much and look forward to my next meal here!
I had dinner here onSunday night with my family. The service was outstanding. We ordered 2 appraiser's 4 different dinners, soup, bread to share. They were delicious. My grandchildren had bread pudding for dessert it was delicious. . My would highly recommend this restaurant.
I periodically would order takeout from this place. The food is fine, and I used to enjoy it, until this incident. I'm writing a 1-star review because I am utterly grossed out by the behavior of one of the servers. I'm from a similar culture and background to the team, so I know this isn't just a cultural misunderstanding. One of the servers-- I'm not sure which-- kept making comments about how he hadn't seen me in a while. Which was fine-- I thought it was just friendly. When I last went to pick up food, the server said he noticed it was my number for the pickup, and got excited. He said, in front of my child, that he'd tried texting me at my number the last time. I did not agree to this, consent to it, or ask for this. It was a gross violation of my privacy and made me feel horribly uncomfortable and scared. I went to use the bathroom, and when I came out, he came out of the other bathroom at the same time and repeated the line about my number. He said he'd reached out to my number, but I hadn't responded the last time. He said he was going to reach out at my number again. I was so shocked and horrified that I just brushed it off and wanted to get out of there. This is NOT OKAY. I did not consent to him having my number. I did not consent to him trying to reach out via my number. This man wears a wedding ring. I have barely spoken a few words except to say hello, and don't know his name. But he's one of the longtime staff at Base Camp. He has highlights in his hair and he usually wears it a bit longer than the other staff members. I feel really sick writing this. He kept asking about where I moved to, because I'd moved away from Hanover to an outer town. I may reach out to the police to report this. This is 100% not okay, it's creepy, and it's harassment. Be wary if you're female and you order from this place, because there's someone on staff who may lift your number because he feels entitled to your personal life.
Do yourself a favor and dine here! We loved the lamb and mushroom tarkari and the chicken chili - both extremely flavorful with tender meat and crispy fresh veggies. But the star of the show was the gundruk soup. It's honestly one of the best soups I've ever had and we talked about it most of the hour drive back to where we are staying. I wish we could go back and have more soup tomorrow!
Had stopped by while I was driving through the area and was really happy with my decision. Wish I could have dined in since the atmosphere was so cozy, and even more so after having the take out I had ordered. I ordered their Nepalese grilled chicken, the lamb momo and the cucumber cooler along with the (not lentil soup… forgot the name… the other soup haha) but all the dishes were amazing. And I wished I ordered 5 of those coolers. Food was so tasty, not oily, and very unique. Was surprised and pleased that I was able to indulge in a new cuisine in this smaller college town. And not to mention how personable the restaurant owners/staff were. Kapa (not sure if I spelled that right) and his family were very friendly, had come over from Nepal over 10 years ago, bringing their Nepalese food with them wherever they have moved around the country. Hopefully they will still be there next time I am in the area so I can have a a proper sit down meal.
This unique restaurant has fabulous food, ambiance, and staff. I highly recommend the grundok soup, I seriously believe this is the best soup I've ever had. It's so flavorful. If I lived in the area, I'd buy it by the gallon. Definitely dip the bread in it. It's a whole other level. The vegetable momos were delicious, and my eggplant paneer curry dish was fantastic. I love that you can choose your spicy level from 1 to 10. The staff was extremely attentive. We never wanted for anything. This is my first experience with Nepalese food, and it was an excellent one.
This restaurant is a gem! Everything was absolutely delicious! The pineapple lassi was phenomenal. The veggie momo (like a dumpling) was tasty with a terrific dipping sauce. The bread had a really excellent avocado basil sauce we took home with us it was so superb. We enjoyed both entrees - mushroom noodles and the chicken tarkari. Amazing!!! Visit if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!
You would think a Nepalese restaurant would be on the top of the building, so it was almost disappointing to find it located in the basement. Not to worry, there is little else to harp on! Base Camp is a charming little bistro w excellent menu items. All that I’ve had were well made and presented by an affable wait staff. Service was generally quick at lunch time. The only slowdown was the time it takes to eat all of the food they bring. The other day I enjoyed the (lamb) momos as an app. Steamed to perfection, and generously plated. Still, so good I ate them all! Then, the Goat & Mushroom Chili arrived, and I knew I had my work cut out. I asked for “medium” heat. Overhearing from a neighboring table, they considered that 7 out of 10. It was definitely spicy, but not at all uncomfortable. The meat was sweet and juicy. The veggies cooked appropriately. My only complaint, and it is a small one, was that it was tough to find the mushrooms in a dish named for them. They kept the water glass full. The iced tea, though delivered late, had a really strong tea flavor w hints of something I couldn’t easily identify. Delicious!
Awesome traditional Nepalese food! Every dish is unique and super flavorful.
Ok food, nothing to write home about.
If there s one good thing about being sick it s knowing that I m gonna get some Gundruk soup. 5 stars for take-out Gundruk soup. 3 stars for dine-in the restaurant
I highly recommend to go to base camp. The momos are the best there!! I like the service to like very polite! I highly recommended Food : 5/5
Restaurant when it peaks is highly disorganized, resulting in long wait times. Food was ok, but not great. I was also displeased with managements treatment of us at the end: a) they told us they could only take cash; it was only when we pushed saying others are putting down credit card / we didn t have cash that they processed it. There is no sign in the front that says cash only so not sure why they would single us out for a 4-person tab b) they tried to clean our tables while we were still finishing our food; again did not happen to others around us and there wasn t anyone waiting for a table at the time. Our waiter, Thapa, was the saving grace and ensured we still had a good experience despite the food / mgmt disorganization, hence the 3 stars. We really appreciate him for taking care of us.
Great meal!!
My husband and I stopped by on a drive to Montreal. If we lived in the area, this would be a regular stop! The gundruk soup was absolutely outstanding - weve never had anything like it and are still talking about it weeks later! We also ordered the vegetable momo, sweet potato chhoila, jackfruit mushroom tarkari, and tofu and mushroom chili. We really appreciated having so many vegan options. All of the food was incredible, and the server and other staff we interacted with were super friendly and helpful. Well definitely be back next time were in the area!
My mother and I ate here while on a trip to nearby Vermont. We had a lovely time- the owners and staff were very friendly and the food was delicious and healthy. It was also affordable. Definitely stop in to try the Nepalese food here! :) Vegetarian options: many vegetarian options- we had a sweet potato curry and an eggplant curry
I love base camp food is so good
Everything perfect
This lovely place is tucked away, you could easily miss it! Food was great, a wide selection of dishes to suit all tastes, and you can even choose your spice level 1-10. Lovely round tables!
Excellent!! Vegetarian options: The sweet potato takari is excellent. Food : 5/5 |
10/10 restaurant. Very nice employees and delicious food!!
was pretty empty and quiet when we went, but staff was nice and very attentive. food was great but all the veggies were cut very chunky and some were pretty undercooked. great flavor though.
Quietly extraordinary. If you love someone, bring them here. Food
Terrific place in Hanover. Food was excellent. Service excellent. Great ambience. Cant wait to come back!
Everything we ordered was so unique and amazing. My heart was full after eating the delicious food. Blueberry halva was just the cherry on the top.
Id admittedly never had Nepalese cuisine before I went to Base Camp, but boy am I glad I did. The chicken takari is to die for and the staff are amazing in that they let you freely customize the spice level on a scale that is pretty darn hard to beat. An 8 (out of 14?) already starts to make you feel things and is usually where I cap off my bravery. But absolutely delicious. Plus, the water they serve glows blue dont ask me how they do that, its just cool.
Its a hidden gem in Hanover. The food is always excellent- perfect spice, seasoning, and an abundance of options. The owner and the employees are very kind and helpful, and the atmosphere is unique and very warm. It is my go-to spot!
Thoroughly enjoyable food and service. Everything is tasty. When they say spicy, they mean spicy. The location is not ideal but Im ok with it being hidden because that means the wait times are generally better because of it.
Amazing food, the chicken takari is so delicious
This is an excellent eatery, Ill be returning. We were astounded by the authenticity of it all. The Staff are super friendly. Well worth it. Vegetarian options: Its South Asian Cuisine, famous for its Veganism and Vegetarianism.
My family and I had an exceptional dining experience at Base Camp this past weekend. As vegans with two young children, aged 2 and 5, finding a restaurant that caters to our dietary needs and keeps the little ones happy can be a challenge, but Base Camp exceeded our expectations. The menu offered an abundance of vegan options that perfectly satisfied our familys diverse tastes. From flavorful appetizers to hearty mains, each dish was carefully crafted and left us wanting more. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the drink I ordered, which was refreshing and complemented the meal perfectly. Most importantly, our kids loved the food, which is always a win in my book! Overall, Base Camp provided us with a memorable dining experience filled with delicious food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Well definitely be returning when we are back in the area! Dietary restrictions: Had plenty of vegan options! Kid-friendliness: Restaurant offered high chairs and the staff was very attentive to our kids.
Mo mos are the best! Vegetarian options: vegan options labeled Parking: Great location! Parking very close
I ve had good food there in the past, probably 7 years ago. Hadn t been back since until the other day. I was one of the first customers for lunch. The chicken dish I ordered tasted like leftovers from the previous day. The sauce was dry as was the chicken. The only saving grace on my plate was the tablespoon of green sauce on the rice, which tasted fresh and was delicious. The decor is chintzy and outdated as well. Server was on his phone when I came in and didn t see me until I had been seated for several minutes. If my dish was 10 bucks I could get on board, but 16 bucks for a dry chicken dish is not worth it to me.
Delicious Mo:Mo! I ve traveled around a lot in the US and have eaten Mo:Mo everywhere, and I live in NYC with a great variety of Nepali restaurants but the Mo:Mo here were absolutely the best so far! Definitely try it. Dietary restrictions: Vegan-friendly
Great food , great atmosphere and legendary long island iced teas fantastic evening
Food was amazing, service was excellent and the atmosphere and music was great! Dietary restrictions: Excellent Gluten Free Options Food : 5/5 |
Momos are so good! Never had Nepalese food before but it was delicious. Tried the basil chicken and one of the curry mushroom chicken dishes. Everything was very fresh and the meat melted in your mouth.
The food is delicious. This restaurant cares so much about creating a beautiful experience and they care so much about their customers. Thank you! Dietary restrictions: Good for eating healthy!
Delicious dishes with many great flavors and spices. We love having the choice of spicy ratings...7 is pretty perfect. Only place Ive seen a Mango Lassi in the Upper Valley. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Many gluten free options
Culture and flavor enriched restaurant. We eat not only for its food but for its environment!
Great food, dishes are served to spiciness preference (but err on the milder side, it gets hot fast!). Quiet location in the basement of multi-business building, with easy access to parking garage next door. Parking: Street parking and lots are paid (by kiosk or phone app) Monday to Saturday, 9-5. Outside of those times (or on holidays), street and lots are free.
Vegetarian options: Several interesting vegan items on the menu Food
Food was delicious and vegan options clearly marked. Service was also attentive. The only downside is that the restaurant is located in a college town so that means loud and rowdy guests if you re unlucky with timing. During our last visit, there was a group of maybe 12-15 college guys only buying sodas, making way too much commotion and intentionally trying to annoy the staff enough to get kicked out so that they could skip the bill. It s a shame that the staff and other guests who were trying to enjoy their meal have to deal with asinine children in the area like this.
Yummm! We got the veg momo, eggplant/ plantain tarkari, and tofu fried noodles. All were great! Great service as well . When entering from street level go down the stairs and to the right.
chicken momos omnom
BEST place to eat in hanover. i eat here way too often and it never disappoints. plenty of vegan options, lovely staff, yummiest momos. the sweet potato takari is my go-to and it always hits !
Undeniably delicious!
Plenty of wonderful choices for Vegans and non Vegans. Food was excellent as was service and atmosphere!
This place is unbelievable...get the boar ribs and a lassi
IT WAS GREAT!!!
Here with a large group. Maybe Im picky, but Im not fond of meat or protein cut into slivers. I had squid, and it tasted like rubber bands. It was hot, spicy (all good) but not tasty. Substitutions were futile. Would have liked some lettuce, was promised extra veggies instead of rice, and it came out with rice. Others in the group said their food was ok.
Friendly service, but the food falls short. Unfortunately, they use boneless chicken breast in the cholla and chili chicken, where the authentic flavor that comes from bone in thigh disappears. Momos were good, other dishes were not distinctive, felt like stereotypical Indian restaurant productions.
Excellent food with just the right amount of spice so you can still enjoy the plethora of flavors. And hard to beat the lunchtime prices too. Looking forward to eating at Base Camp the next time I m in Hanover
I must share my disappointment regarding the Momo served at your restaurant, as it fell far below my expectations. Regrettably, it did not capture the authentic flavors and essence of Nepali cuisine. I kindly urge you to consider improving the other dishes on your menu as well, as the ones we had lacked the distinctive Nepali touch that we were hoping for. I genuinely hope you receive this feedback in a positive manner; feel compelled to mention that the replies in comment section on your page appears to have a rather negative tone.
The lamb and chicken Nepalese way were great! The mango lassi would have been better with more tartness and the momos ate on the dry side. Great service.
Passing through on road trip from Hamilton Ontario to Newry Maine. We are two vegetarians and Google search found Base Camp was good for us in terms of menu and time. From arrival to leaving the service could not have been more welcoming and attentive. The food was great- our first time eating Nepalese cuisine- we will try more. Great value as well.
Love the food here, it s the best Nepali restaurant with ambient vibe. Dharma is also the best. Food : 5/5
Love this place! Been a few times before now and so lucky to be living closer so we can go more often! Great food with friendly service. Highly recommend the momos :)
The food was delicious and the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommend for all diets, especially vegan! Vegetarian options: Mushroom, beans, sweet potato, jackfruit, and tofu Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options, vegan options
The chicken Nepali way and herbed bread were delicious. I ate here two nights in a row on my hike, and I left full and very happy both times.
The food here was very tasty! We got the wild boar momo, bread, wild boar ribs, and lamb and mushroom tarkari. All were delicious. The wild boar ribs had almost a bbq like sauce on them that added a sweetness to the dish. The momo were freshly made and the sauce that came with it was great. The tarkari was a bit spicy but so good. Definitely recommend! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Kid-friendliness: They had high chairs and were accommodating for our 2 year old.
My favorite Hanover restaurant! Wonderful flavors and perfect atmosphere
My husband and I are vegetarians and we are so glad we read the reviews and visited this place! Highly recommend the green bean bites, which were pan fried and not breaded. Also, the vegan 500 year old soup was incredible. I had the eggplant paneer and he had the jackfruit, both great. Hot, filling, large portions.
I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant and decided to try the Nepali spiced Rack of Lamb paired with Mango Lassi. The dish was incredibly delicious with the perfect level of spiciness. The staff was friendly and provided excellent menu suggestions. Its clear that this place has earned its popularity, and I highly recommend it.
Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant. Delicious Nepalese food that packs in the flavors without being heavy or greasy. Recommend the momos, soups and any of the Tarkaris. Also try the tamarind and ginger soda, delicious. Lovely staff too. Thank you
A great spot to eat in Hanover. They have many vegetarian and vegan options. I usually get a curry. Vegetarian options: They have a large section of options for vegans and vegetarians
If they suggest you might not be able to handle a spice level 10, trust them. Amazing food that manages to be hot as hell while still maintaining the full flavor.
So good!!
Delicious Nepalese food, really great place!
Ordered potato chilli(served with rice) and tofo stir fried noodles it was really good.
Delicious food. Pleasant atmosphere. Multiple vegan and vegetarian options. Uncommon meat options like wild boar and buffalo. Cant wait to go again.
We eat here almost every time were in Hanover. The main courses are delicious, the bread is always fresh, and theyll make your dish as mild or spicy as you want it.
I rarely leave bad reviews on restaurant. It was my first time ordering in this place and it was a huge disappointment. I ordered a delivery for chicken momos and ginger goat couple days ago. I think it was worst momos I ever had. The momos inside were very small and more portion was from momo covering. I think it would be a lot better if they could increase the overall size of momos filled with good amount of keema. The sauce was fine but serving size was small. Also, when I ordered ginger goat I was expecting some Nepalese goat curry but it was loaded with vegetables like zucchini, capsicum, carrot, beans. I would like to request them to put a description on the menu for ginger goat on their website next time. There were more vegetables than actual goat meat. Also, I ordered spicy ginger goat. All I could taste was hot and spicy like it is soaked in chilli powder. The main problem was I found small hair particle in my ginger goat item which was absolutely unethical. I can t vouch for other food items but I think they could really have to work on improving sanitization and work on serving better quality foods. I wish you guys all the best for future!
Ordered veg Tofu noodles and potato chilli which was served with rice. It was too good Food
Its not terrible but not too great
Base Camp is a great place, with lovely ambience, an incredible staff, and tremendous one of a kind cuisine. They always treat us well and take care of our son, he loves Base Camp as much as we do. He has been eating here for two years. We discovered this gem when he was a baby, while we were looking at property in VT (2018) and since we moved in 2018, we make the trip to Base Camp quite often. All the vegan options are tremendously flavorful and unique. They honestly have flavors my wife and I have never tasted which is quite surreal, were from Central NJ and have eaten everything you could think of. Im a chef and my wife and I run our a vegan food business and we had our minds blown a bit when we first ate here. We live in Rutland Town, VT and drive a little over an hour to dine at Base Camp and are always grateful for the experience. Thank you guys, youre all awesome!
This is my favorite place in Hanover! My parents live there, and I now live an hour away. It s my top request when I come visit, and it s the type of place that I would drive an hour to get if a craving struck. The Nepali Way Chicken is excellent, like their take on barbecue chicken and also stuffed. I also recommend trying the Ginger Goat. Goat meat is quite good, if you ve never had it. Lastly, no order is complete without momos! Great service dining in, and also a regular choice for take out.
Got the vegetable stir fry noodles and vegetable momo to go. Food was still hot even with a 30 minute drive home. Super tasty and spicy. Will definitely be back!
Love this restaurant, great food and service, and food I cant get anywhere else. Spice levels 0-10...6 is spicy, 8 is rugged, 10 bananas.
This place was delicious! My husband and I couldn t decide who s food we liked more! I d 100% recommend the blueberry dessert. The portions left us full & feeling healthy! We ll be back next time we re in Hanover!
EXCELLENT vegan options, though Im sure the meats are great too. 10/10 will return, everything I got here was amazing (and I tried 5 different menu items).
This was a fantastic random find! The hot chai tea was amazing!
Amazing flavors! Love the vegetarian/vegan options and the wide range of spice levels :) Great experiences both in house and for takeout. Gundruk soup is definitely worth a try, it might just become your staple like it has for me!
I was visiting from CT and decided to order takeout. The reviews are definitely accurate. Every single component of my meal from the lentil dal to the mushroom and chicken curry was so fresh and high quality food. This will be my go to place if I am back in the area.
Calamari was outstanding!
++ expensive Service fine Food so so
Great service, great food; and very affordable. I loved the herb bread and the momo! Would be happy to come back anytime.
The food was delicious and came out so fast!! They had a variety of vegan options that were all amazing.
Hands down the best Nepali food in the New England area. Ill definitely be going back.
I swore Id never move back to Hanover, but sometimes I think about those momos and Im tempted. The green beans with cumin seeds are also so good theyre almost worth moving back for. Ive tried other momos from restaurants in, like, real cities with, like, real restaurant scenes, but they didnt even come close. Omg, I miss this place. But on the other hand, if I DID move back, I would eat here literally twice a day.
Nice little Nepalese place with TONS of vegan options. The staff was very friendly, and the service was quick. The food was fresh and tasty. It seems very popular for takeout. There is a parking garage very close that only costs about $1 for an hour. Highly recommend, and I would love to go back if I am in the area again.
Anytime I am back visiting Dartmouth I will go to this restaurant. But as the waiter suggested several times As I grimaced through my amazing jackfruit curry, next time I will order the seven and not the eight. Amazing soup. Amazing dumplings. What a find.
I have been twice now and i loved it both times. Fantastic wait staff, food is phenomenal and the decor is beautiful. Vegetarian options: Went with a vegetarian man and he said his food was also fantastic.
My daughter and I went here for dinner. It was the first time there for both of us. The first thing that strikes you is how clean and well decorated it is. The second thing was how peaceful and serene it was. Thirdly, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant!
We ordered an appetizer with sweet potato and most of the pieces werent even cooked. We told the waiter and he confirmed it shouldnt be that way, but he couldnt have cared less. The rest of the food was ok, not great. The service was really poor. Wont be back.
Cute vibe, super attentive staff, and amazingly delicious food!!! Would absolutely be a regular if we lived in the area.
Everything was delicious. Curry was very flavorful. Soup was delicious too. The jeera chicken reminded me of chicken shawarma. The green bean bites were a healthy and tasty side.
The ambiance, I liked the pleasant atmosphere of Nepal and its related photos and items. The place is one large hall and thus may be noisy but It did not bother me. As to the food, I liked that it was not Indian and not Chinese but a wonderful flavor of its own; Nepalese. Because we were not sure if and when well be back, we ordered several dishes to have a better idea on this cousin. The vegetable Momo (dumpling) was excellent, although Id like the dough to be lighter (but that may make it not Nepalese). The Dal (yellow lentel) soup delish with many pleasant flavors, such as Cumin seeds. The {Takari tofu and eggplant} and the {Chili tofu and mushroom} were was very good. In both dishes the green peppers were too dominant but the flavors of both dishes were supreme. I had to taste something from the grill and decided on lamb chops which again did not turned me down. It was very good with wonderful flavors. The service and the entire operation were smooth, fast and on time. In summary, we had a symphony of new cousin and will certainly enjoy again. Vegetarian options: Many vegan plates are on the menu Parking: Friendly priced township parking is a block away Kid-friendliness: Parents and kids tables were all over
We had planned to go to another restaurant, but with the wonderful aromas coming out of the Base Camp Cafe, we called an audible, and took a table for three there. Two of us opted for cocktails, one Muddy Base Camp and one Sunny (both delicious!) and our third opted for a Mango Lassi, also wonderful. We started with Lamb Momos, a very tasty dumpling, and loved them. We were all in bird moods, so followed up with three entrées, stir-fried noodles with chicken, a duck chilie, and a grilled spiced chicken and vegetables, all perfectly spiced with distinctive variations in flavor. We were so satisfied with the meal that dessert was a tough call, but rather than pass altogether, we opted to share a single serving of the Blueberry Haluwa, which we found to be just about perfect. Next time, Ill plan to leave more room for dessert. Highly recommend, and we plan to visit again.
We ordered the chicken momo and lamb tass. There were eight dumplings with the momo and a nice semi-spicy sauce. If we werent sharing, I would have ate them all. The lamb tass was amazing. Very savory/umami. My husband, who hates vegetables, ate almost all of them, and there was no trace of lamb left. Definitely coming back. Friendly service and great selection of food. Vegetarian options: There were a lot of vegetarian options on the menu.
Go here all the time. Waiters do the FaaF occasionally, however
Excellent take-out. Fresh, tasty, high quality, on-time. Will go back
We love going to Base Camp! We have gone here for years and love the staff and the food. It s amazing! We would recommend it to anyone!!
Very thoughtful, always fresh ingredients and great portions!
We got take out via DoorDash. I have been thinking about that meal all day since I ate it. Everything was wonderful, looked amazing and exceeded expectations. We will definitely be back for more!
Phenomenal!
Very good food! Weve been a couple times and have tried something new every time and have always enjoyed ourselves. The staff is warm and friendly and very prompt.
Love this authentic spicy food! People are wonderful and give great service
Phenomenal!!! Service was great, food was REALLY good. Full of taste, and very well prepared (fresh). Ambiente was ok.
Ive never had Napolonese food before so I didnt know what to expect but our meal was AMAZING. We got one Chai tea which was more milky than chai-ey but still enjoyable. We also got 2 adult beverages which were great. The Gundruk soup was good, tasted like tomato soup. We had the bread which was light and crispy and SO SOFT inside. One of the Best breads I have ever had. We got the calamari app which was different than what I expected. Its sautéed calamari in napolonese seasonings. But they served it with these little crispy rice which gave me the crisp I was missing. Also the Momos were delicious, like little Steamed dumpling. We got Wild Boar and chicken The rack of lamb special was delicious. The meat was seasoned well, it didnt taste overly gamey. The Goat Takari was also amazing. And the side of rice it came with had a sauce on top.... almost tasted like a chimichurri sauce. We also got the vegetable noodles which was okay. It was a little on the sweet side (we asked for mild spicy level) We dont have a high tolerance for spicy so we asked everything to be mild but we probably could have tolerated medium heat. Overall a very satisfying meal. I will def. Mark it on my maps and try and come again if I am ever in the area
Almost the whole menu is gluten and dairy free. I have various food sensitivities and didnt have to ask about anything. Very comfortable, clean, delicious food, very attentive and polite staff
Clearly marked vegan items, nice atmosphere, I got the vegan momo dumplings, which were pretty good. Kind of expensive for the amount of food though.
Amazing authentic food. They offered different levels of heat for their spicy food. Numbers 1-10 I had their chicken and mushroom tarkari. It was absolutely delicious. They have cilantro past for bread and rice which was amazing.
Best place to eat in Hanover in my opinion. Affordable, delicious, nutritious... A rare combo around these parts.
Great. Get the chili chicken or chili duck or momos.
Good service, great food, and intriguing atmosphere.
amazing restaurant. I dont really like bell peppers or zucchini, but this place has an amazing curry sauce that makes it actually delicious. Very spicy! My friend ate here and asked for a level 10. They tried to bravely eat it and got about 30% of the way through. Delicious spice. If you like spice, ask for a 5-7. If you ask for anything less than a 3 you are barely gonna taste it. Highly recommended. Eat here! A little pricey, but well worth it if you want to eat out!
I requested no cinnamon since Im allergic-- they said this was OK (in reality, they didnt know what I meant and didnt bother clarify with me). When I picked up the order and I asked again about the cinnamon, they pretended there was no cinnamon in the order.
Momos are excellent! Lovely Nepali place tucked away in Dartmouth :)
Cucumber saki cooler and chicken kashkari
Uniquely delicious food, excellent service, great atmosphere.
This place is a hidden gem in Hanover. We were trying to find a place to eat lunch and decided to try it, having never eaten Nepalese food before. What a treat! We had the chicken mo mo, chicken tarkari, chicken and mushroom tarkari, lentil soup. They asked how spicy we wanted the tarkari (between 1 - 10). Even the bread was delicious! My picky 12-yr old loved the food and the mango lassi was amazing! Delicious food and excellent service - Will make it a regular stop any time we come back to Hanover!
Honor to whom honor deserves. Phenomenal tasting meals we had. Also, restrooms were very clean. One could easily (and wrongly) assume a clean bathroom means a clean kitchen but could you imagine a clean kitchen coming out a?dirty bathroom? Highly recommended!!
This was not a good meal, the chicken was tough and the sauce tasteless, the rice should have been nice and fluffy but it was a glutinous mess. So unfortunate, I was craving a curry and this was a disappointment.
Food was ok..but overpriced for amount of meat served with meal.
If I could give more stars I absolutely would! I want to thank Base Camps delivery driver one million times because he is amazing! The order is always on time, always correct, hot, and he is so sweet. I work long hours at a dealership and we normally have so many issues getting delivery from other places, but this restaurant has been astounding with prompt service and theyre very good people in general. They deserve to be supported in these harder times and their food is awesome! Its the small things that make a persons day and Base Camp made mine! Thank you so much!!!
Ecxelent Food. It was as good as I was expecting from Mr. Manoush and his lovely family.
Base Camp Cafe is a gem. The food and service are both very good. I don t think I ve eaten here and not ordered the MO MOs - delicious dumplings with a variety of fillings to choose from. Today we added lentil dal soup to our lunch - also delicious. Choose Base Camp Cafe and you won t regret it.
Excellent food and service!
This is the second time I was here in Friday evening, Restaurant was pretty full. I was with my wife. At first we order some drink. Ginger Tamarind which taste fresh and was great. We ordered some Wild Boar MOMO. We got lentil daal soup and shared which taste so good and the flavor of cumin and ginger more delicious. Also, we got Jeera chicken spice level 5. The perfect combination of some cumin seed on it added with some spicy make it super delicious. My wife got Noodle for Entree and i had Duck Chili which were really good. Small place well decorated and good service as well. We will be back again to try more.
Love the food here and the staff are so nice!
Amazing staff with kind recommendations as were not familiar with their dishes and spices. Everything (soup, vegetables appetizers, tankari curry, snd the fresh ginger soda and tamarind juice were delicious!!
Great food, nice people, fast service
Authentic...great food and service!
I cant say enough nice things about this restaurant! The food is delicious and generously portioned, and the spicy food (on a scale of 1-10) is *actually* spicy, which is really hard to come by in this town. There are plenty of options for meat eaters and vegans and everyone in between. While just a little on the pricey side, Base Camp is a great place for a date or a relaxed meal with friends. Definitely try the gundruk soup and any of the noodle dishes.
Gundruk soup is flavorful and spicy. Lots of gluten free options. Sweet potato takari is my favorite.
Thoughtful, beautiful food. Very veg friendly, clean and gracious.
Fantastic salmon meal with perfectly cooked veggies. Lovely and prompt service. I will definitely order again and refer Base Camp Cafe to everyone. Jane Fryman
Amazing food!! Amazing people!! I was there opening night, and have been several times over the years. It s always a wonderful experience. The boar momos are really really good. Love Gundruk soup. Curries are great. I think my favorite thing on the menu is sikarni, so delicious! Now during this uncertain time it s so great to have delivery as an option. I m actually having rack of lamb delivered tonight. Such a luxury! I can t wait until we are able to dine inside again, because as incredible as the food is, the people are the best.
Excellent food and great service. Loved the goat chili.
Delicious food! Never been to Nepal but this food is womderful. For the un-initiated I would describe it as a Chinese/Indian cross. The vegetarian mo-mos were in particular lovely, spiced with cumin and cinnamon (as a guess).
If you come to Hanover and do not eat here... you have failed at life today. Had the gandruk soup, rack of lamb special, and the duck chili. The food was literally mind blowing. Will probably drive 6 hours from where I live just to come eat here again.
Best food ever after a 42 mile hike on the AT. Service was excellent and the food was out of this world. I highly recommend eating here.
Authentic nepali cuisine.
First time visitor last year. Loved the momos!!! I crave them from time to time and think of this place.
My son and I thought this was one of the best meals we ve ever had . So fresh and delicious.
Good food
My first time here. I ordered the goat tarkari, spicy pickles, lassi and blueberry haluwa for dessert. Tarkari is a tomato based curry and it is available at spice levels from 1 to 10. I love spicy food but didnt know if Nepalese food is Mexican-food spicy or Thai-food spicy so I asked for level 6. It had good spice but is not as spicy as Thai food. The flavor was excellent. I would not mind having tarkari again. Id probably get the chicken rather than goat and get spice level 8. The lassi is a yogurt based spiced drink that reminds me very strongly of horchata. Their version suffered from a grainy mouth feel, probably due to using powdered cinnamon. The taste was very good though. The spicy pickles were good but not remarkable. Im glad I got the haluwa because I like to try new things but I dont think Id get it again. Its a semolina based cake. It was small, dry and expensive. While I liked the tarkari and lassi I found the meal as a whole to be rather pricey and the haluwa was way overpriced for its size. The tarkari was good enough that Im interested to try other dishes but Im not in town long enough that Im likely to go back.
Fantastic, comfortable and warm, the best meal Ive ever had. Very friendly staff, so kind.
Nice vegan options
They have a great quality on the main course, but they should improve the appetizers.
Good quality food with fast and friendly service
What a nice Nepali restaurant! The Momo is delicious and the service is very good!
Great food! Cant wait to go back.
Very delicious food and good service
Good service, nice staff, great food.
Great food, staff very friendly. Underrated in the Hanover restaurant scene. Unlike several other Asian restaurants locally, understands what not spicy means.
Not bad! Good food, and great ambience. I don t add the final star because the extras were a bit overpriced (desert, drink, appetiser etc) - but the quality was good.
Very tasty food and friendly staff. We love the mo mos!
Came here on a recommendation of a friend. Chicken Mo Mo, Meh and a minimal amount of dipping sauce. Lentil soup, seemed like it was strained with water, lil flavor at all. Chicken Jeeva, made my blood pressure spike, due to all the salt. Chicken Noodle had scrapes of chicken that only registers every third bite. Wouldn t come here again. So overrated. Anyone giving this place four and five stars needs to get out more. Worst part is the wait between dishes was like ten mins or more. Just sad!!
Too expensive for rice, vegetables and token meat
Best food in Hanover. Appetizer Momos are delicious and the entree spice levels are perfect for those that enjoy hot.
Basecamp is, without question, the best restaurant in Hanover. Great food, amazing service, friendly staff, and stiff drinks. What more could you ask for in a restaurant?
I love this place. They get to know their customers and are always super friendly. Plus the food is truly unique for the area. So delicious.
Great food, great service, reasonable prices. The vegetables in our curry were cooked perfectly, and the chia tea was wonderful.
First time here, food was excellent. Momo is amazing, and had the Nepali stuffed chicken. Would definitely come again
This place is amazing! I have never had Nepal food before and Im glad I tried it. If you like spicy food then check this place out. The heat scale is 1 to 10. I played it safe and went with a 5, still pretty spicy. The restaurant itself is small but cozy. And the service was polite and quick. Definitely recommend!
Been here a few times now and it is as good food as I ve ever had in New Hampshire. Everything is packed with flavor and made with attention towards giving the diner a comforting food experience. Portions are either a little small (momos) or a little big (the chilis are massive!) but always good. The gundruk is also medicine in soup form. Hard to believe it s made from just a few ingredients. Great staff too! The perfect antidote to a cold Hanover winter s night.
Amazing food and a excellent choice of spirits
