Sa wad dee ka (welcome), from Bangkok to Sydney. Our intention is to provide an authentic Thai dining experience that reflects the rich culture and flavours of our hometown, Saraburi, in Central Thailand. Please note, we are a small restaurant and bookings are essential.
Amazing food really enjoyed everything we are. We got the set menu (which I usually avoid the set menu) however it was so good! Perfect set menu, portion and flavours. The staff are also so lovely and attentive.
Can’t wait to go again. Porkfat was able to accommodate a group last minute, the team were up front, helpful and thoughtful. We tried a bit of everything and tbh everyone had a favourite dish. It’s a new take on Thai in Sydney at least but also familiar enough that I had people with me that aren’t adventurous with food try new things. The team were also helpful with recommendations what dish pairs with what dish. They just knew the group and helped us have a great experience! Thank you team!
My partner and I had celebrated my birthday here in Porkfat. Thai cuisine is always one of my most favourite cuisine so it was amazing to come here and taste the food. Food 10/10, make sure you get the Thai Papaya Salad and Pork Jowl. Worth it. Small restaurant however service was professional, attentive and quick. They sang happy birthday for me as well that was Cute 🩷
I went with my wife to celebrate my 29th birthday (pretty simple request). The food was great! We got the set menu for 2, and it allowed us to indulge in so many tasty Thai dishes. We thought the price was pretty reasonable (not cheap, but fair). I personally think that the curry beef and pork jowl was excellent! Would highly recommend this to everyone. also, a staff member sang happy birthday to me, while placing a candle on our shared ice cream plate 😊 -jt
I recently dined here and had a mostly positive experience. I ordered the Chinese broccoli, which was a bit oily, but it still tasted great. The grilled pork was flavorful, though slightly on the fatty side for my preference. However, the highlight of the meal was the Panang beef – it was absolutely delicious, and the curry had a wonderfully authentic flavor. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, and I'd recommend it for anyone craving some rich, flavorful dishes.
We got the set menu since our group was over 4pax but wow every dish was packed with flavour, sweet sour juicy spicy whew! Absolutely loved it, definitely coming back in a smaller group next time so we can try other dishes. The only thing that threw me off was they used the same tamarind sauce for the wings and fish. But otherwise a very high end Thai restaurant option to add to your list!
The best Thai restaurant I have been to. Loved all the dishes that we ordered. Very punchy flavours and absolutely delicious! The pork jowl is a must try and so is their house made coconut ice cream dessert, which is divine! Very nice dining atmosphere and the owners are very friendly and accommodating! Highly recommended.
My partner and I just had a very lovely dinner at Porkfat Thai. The service was attentive and friendly. Every dish is full of blasting flavour, and I am glad it is not a huge portion, otherwise us two would not be able to try more dishes. Will definitely come back next when we visit Sydney again.
10/10 green curry
Tasty tasty unique Thai food. Very different for your average Thai. Every dish is a winner. Must not leave without trying the coconut icecream. Food : 5/5
Our meal was delicious and the service was excellent. We will definitely return
Food was ok, I expected more considering the amount we paid.
Authentic, great staff, super knowledgeable with fantastic recommendations on the menu.
What a fabulous meal! The Chinese Broccoli, as always was unbelievably delicious and the Prawns well what can I say except I ll dream about them!
Currently completing an any % speed run of the best restaurants in Sydney and this has topped the list. The larb is a must have, its the best version of that dish Ive ever had, everything else we had was absolutely gorgeous.
10/10 5/5, whatever you want to call it. Incredible Food Incredible Service Incredible Staff Cant wait to come back
We loved our dinner at Porkfat! The service was great and food was delicious Highly recommend! Food
We had the pork belly and it was cooked to perfection thank you
Always a great experience! Food is awesome, service is exceptional and overall experience always outstanding! We always look forward to returning!
The good is delicious and the staff are just lovely. Our favourite restaurant in Sydney, we go there every time we come here!
Excellent service with Delicious food. Extra special Thai food. Thank you for a great evening.
The customer service was unreal, friendly and attentive. The food is sensation! Have no problems playing these prices for such amazing quality food. Spicy level perfect and the coconut ice cream is a must have
My husband and I had early dinner here after seeing a show at the Capital Theatre which was about 10 mins walk. The food, service and ambience were absolutely amazing! Could not fault. The flavours were another level. Have never tasted better Thai food even in Thailand. Highly recommend the chicken wings, pork belly. beef brisket curry and coconut icecream...all to die for!
Food was absolutely amazing and delicious..came out relatively quickly. Cannot fault the service staff were beautiful. My only annoyance was there is no toilet and need to go around the corner into the shopping centre. Other than that it was a very pleasant experience. Wheelchair accessibility: Would not be much room as downstairs has very limited seating. Book ahead if in a wheelchair.
The food was incredible! I dont have the words to describe it. Staff were so lovely and kind and attentive. We had the banquet menu but threw in a few extras like spanner crab fried rice. They all sang Happy Birthday to our grandson and it was a magical lunch.
Came in for a last minute dinner. Staff was very accommodating. Food was next level but the highlight of the night was how nice and attentive the staff were. Would definitely come back
Im going a little against the masses here. The crispy pork and green papaya salad was delicious. The brisket curry was weirdly dry small pieces of meat that were not really tender as such. The curry sauce was delicious but the meat was letting it down unfortunately. The spoon was the cutest thing and everything was presented beautifully. My advice is take a bottle of your own wine and fork out the $20 corkage. The wine mark up is a bit rich, I understand it needs to be marked up but a $18.99 bottle is marked up to $88 seems crazy. We had to pour our own. The team were lovely and friendly and the place is clean so its well worth a visit.
The best Thai I haven t made it for awhile . Marvellous customer service. Nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed. Thanks to the crews for such a nice dining experience in Sydney
Just amazing food & service was on point !
The food was very nice. But the standard of the food didnt match the prices. For those prices you would expect better. Overpriced for what it was.
Had a fabulous lunch at Porkfat. Food was amazing and so flavoursome. Authentic Thai food. Service was so friendly and Boon offered us advice on what to pick. Pork Lard San Choy Bow , the Whole Barramundi and Prawn curry were the highlights. Will definitely go back again sooner rather than later.
The food and service were amazing!!! The staff were so knowledgeable and were more than happy to give advice on what we should order. Dietary restrictions: The staff were willing to change the order if we had dietary requirements
Porkfat is a small restaurant which I ve been following on instagram and finally we made it there. The minute we walked into the restaurant the staff have been welcoming and friendly. The food is the most delicious Thai food we ve ever eaten and the waiter explained very well what we re eating and which dishes go best together. The service was outstanding and I definitely go back. We had the set menu and I can only recommend it as you get to try so many different dishes.
Great venue with excellent service and food. Staff knowledge exceptional.
Exceeded expectations. Food and particularly service were excellent!
I must express my disappointment with this restaurant. The quality of both the products and the service is abysmal. The so-called techniques dont meet the standards of a supposedly fine gourmet restaurant. Take, for instance, their Thai-style pork. Its a disaster no lean meat to be found, just chunks of fat coated in batter and deep-fried. Truly disheartening. This place claims to be a top Thai dining spot, but it falls far short of that reputation.
Dang! Super nice. Must visit!!!! We love the grilled jumbo prawns with seafood sauce and the pomfret with mango salad 5 stars service too! Food : 5/5
Staff were incredibly rude and confrontational over the phone. They refused to accept a cancellation for a weekend booking made in excess of the requested 48 hour cutoff.
The food was amazing - the curry and the fried barramundi were incredibly tasty. The food also came out incredibly fast but we felt rushed through the whole experience. They reminded us twice that bookings are for 1.5 hours which we understood was their policy but still didn t appreciate being rushed through our meal.
As soon as we arrived , smiles and welcoming faces the menu was explained as did each dish We selected the set menu which was amazingly delicious! A MUST TRY Vegetarian options: Selection s available
a bit out of the way. Appearances were a rung or two above the normal speedy thai places around there. Decor a bit more classy. Set menu $89 per person, min 2 people. Service was attentive and nothing to complain about. Lots of courses. Overall the dishes were good, the beef brisket was a touch on the dry side, but the sauce was delicious. $20 for a glass of wine was a bit steep in my view, especially as a I wasnt offered a glass with my Singha beer. There is no tiolet on premises either, its a 2 min walk round the block to the shopping arcade.
Thai cuisine at its very finest. Warm and welcoming hospitality. An immediate favourite after our first delectable banquet of exquisite dishes. khawp khun khrap Food : 5/5 |
First dinner in Australia, ever. Dinner here popped! Ingredients were fresh, retained their vitality, sauces more complex and delicious than most Thai I ve eaten in the States. Staff gave great guidance. Still trying to find a way back there but there s a lot of country to see here
Fantastic dinner. The service was second to none and the barramundi to die for.
Great food. Appreciate what chef is trying to do here. Definitely come back from more
Delicious Thai food, well catered for gluten free (coeliac). Will be back!
The best Thai food Ive ever eaten. The service is amazing.
Just wonderful fresh and delicious food all the way around. We had a booking at 8pm and they turned up the lights for us to leave at 9:15pm, felt uncomfortable to have to rush out. It would have been nice to have stayed at least until 9:30pm without feeling like being pushed out the door. Otherwise its a great place to eat wonderful food but if they say they are open until 10pm they should stay open and let people relax a bit. This is the one thing about Sydney closes up way too early.
Simple eatery, but incredible food. Real flavour and depth - attention to detail in every dish. Lovely service and well priced, this is a winner
Easily one of the best Thai restaurants in Sydney. Had a beautiful lunch and fantastic staff, they were awesome. Only feedback is the wine and BYO are quite expensive
The food was traditional Thai. It transported me back to Hua Hin.
Amazing food, did not disappoint and fabulous service!
We were extremely disappointed and wouldnt go back - portions were tiny for the price and majority of the dishes lacked flavour. The only memorable dish was the pork jowl, steep corkage charges for BYO and they dont have a bathroom (you need to use the shopping centre bathroom which was filthy and shuts at 9). Service was ok.
The food was absolutely excellent, we had all the starters which were all great including the delicious pork belly. We also had the brisket which was nice and tender. The food wasnt too spicy. We reserved a table like normal expecting to be there for at least 2 hours as is the industry norm, however to oir surprise we were kicked out after only 1 hour which was a huge disappointment. Next time dont overbook or dont even offer a table to people if you know that they are going to get kicked out. A bit greedy but food was good which is what matters.
Delicious food, the staff are friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We had crab fried rice delicious and full of fresh spanner crab, also delicious whole Barra washed down with Chang beer. I felt like I was eating in Bangkok. Best Thai in Sydney. Restaurant was packed. Vegetarian options: Many options, cater to dietary needs
Underwhelming experience. I booked here for my husbands and my wedding anniversary off the back of positive reviews. We did have an early booking (5pm) so the place was completely empty, hence low score for atmosphere. Service was good - prompt and friendly. Wine list pricing seemed expensive given the location/cuisine - glasses of wine were all $20+ and bottles $90+. Corkage $20 per bottle. We paid nearly $50 for a curry main with brisket as the protein. Husbands first bite was entirely grisly fat and the curry itself wasnt very well balanced - felt like it had been thickened with flour and was a little odd in texture. We also ordered the larb which had the occasional bitter aftertaste. Oh, and I nearly broke a tooth on a peppercorn or a piece of rice that hadnt been ground down enough. All in all - it wasnt terrible but I felt like we could have gone to one of the many Thai places down the road, paid a fraction of the price and enjoyed it more.
Fantastic food, groovy-courteous warm service.
The place is new but the chefs and staffs are very experience so we known we are in for some really amazing Thai food. I enjoyed watching chefs preparing our food right in front of us, the must order here are the grilled pork jowl with sweet chilli nam jim oh my god so good and the baked prawn with vermicelli more on the pricey side but absolutely worth it see you in the next video!
Food and staff INCREDIBLE. We decided on the banquet. Barramundi was the highlight. Food : 5/5
Every single dish was delicious. We will definitely be back!
Ab Fab. up there with the best.we had the set menu, it was perfect. The staff were fantastic. Will definitely be back. Yum.
Another fantastic dining experience at Porkfat. Amazingly delicious food, great drinks with impeccable service. Highly recommended AAAA+++++.
Authentic thai food partnered with wonderful service!
Happy 2 Year Birthday Porkfat!! Inarguably the hottest Thai institution in Sydney right now. The Coconut icecream is just heaven. Hopefully your quality and taste continues to go up . Thank you. Food
Porkfat is one of those hidden gems that I cant stop telling all my friends about. Having tried many Thai restaurants across Sydney, I can say without doubt that this is my favourite one! The food is not only authentic, but genuine - every dish is well thought out and cooked with care by Chef Jack and his team. I especially love the prawn vermicelli, pork jowl and porkfat larb (my personal favourite!). Be sure to keep an eye on their specials as they update their menu regularly too! The team also provides some of the best service in the hospitality industry. Every time I visit Porkfat, I feel treated not just like a customer, but like a special guest into their home. They are just that warm and welcoming, and no request is ever too hard. A big thank you to Tanya, Chef Jack and the team for always for looking after my friends and I, and for feeding us so well! I highly recommend Porkfat to everyone who wants to experience an authentic Thai cuisine with tonnes of elevated and unique dishes in a warm, attentive environment.
Excellent Thai meal. Best I ve had in a long time and we are choosy!! Service was terrific & it s a small space so felt intimate we had the set menu & portions were generous with some bonus plates! No loo inside restaurant (part of a complex so had to go around the corner) was only minor drawback. Will return often.
Outstanding Thai and service. Well priced and delicious
Heard a lot of good things about this place - read on TIMES OUT of this authentic thai food. My first impression of this place - EVERYONE IS SO FRIENDLY AND SWEET. This is definitely one of the best thai place Ive ever been to. I loved all the dishes we ordered - so favourable, tasty, delicious and full of punchy taste! We ordered thai milktea, tamarind wings, deep fried whole barramundi with three flavor sauce and deep fried pork belly with chilli lime. It was so perfect, and the service is so heartwarming. I remembered when I was enjoying the fish (with all my fingers pulling off fish meat and bones), one of the member gave me an soaked towel to clean my hands. She also helped me with getting the meat out of the fish (very attentive to details). The only comment that might not worth a full score is - it is a bit too salty which makes you keep drinking water (but it was just a small issue). It was a pleasant experience and i cant wait to come again!
Delicious!! Proper Thai, not a carrot or zucchini in sight.
The meal was fabulous from beginning to end. Perfectly balanced dishes and great value. The service was outstanding! We will be back
The food here is amazing. I will be back !
Absolutely amazing food especially the pork jowl & pork larb! Service was extremely welcoming & friendly by Boon.
Cant fault any of it. Friendly staff great food and not too noisy for a decent conversation.
We had a great dinner at Porkfat. The tamarind wings and papaya salad were outstanding. The fried barramundi was flavourful but a lot just for 2 people. Leave room for the coconut ice cream - it s a must have! The service was first class leaving you with a great experience from your visit.
We went for lunch for my son s 21st birthday, food, service and atmosphere was excellent. They bought desert with candle and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday, best servoce we have ever had. Great job
Best of Thai flavors! Brought me nostalgia and reminded me of my first food trips to Thailand. The coconut ice cream hit the mark and the best way to end the meal. Indeed, food is more than just sustenance; it is a language that speaks to our senses and brings people together. Thanks for the lovely service as well. Khob Khun Kha. Food
Absolutely delicious food - the chicken wings are a MUST, but pretty much everything we ate was packed with incredible flavors. The staff is so friendly, they looked after us so well and made sure my allergy was acknowledged from the get-go. $20 BYO is such a treat. Really great experience!
My friend and I had an excellent pre-theatre dining experience here. The coconut ice cream was sensational!
Really tasty Thai food, staffs are amazingly friendly.
We booked on line , it was all very simple . The food was incredible and I thought very reasonably priced . The service was very good . Because they have a small restaurant, you only have your table for an hour and a half . Although we were able to finish our meals within this time frame , it wasn t a very relaxed dinning option . I understand why and that s fine :-) just thought it worth mentioning that you re not going to open another bottle of wine and peruse the dessert menu :-) as far as food goes , we ll be back !! The whole deep fried barramundi was spectacular!!
Absolutely incredible food, the service was so amazing. The staff are so friendly. We had the set menu which was so delicious! Food
Amazing in every way. Service is so personal and attentive but also efficient. You can chat with the staff to get advice on everything from your combination, sequence and amount so that you have the best eating experience. We love going there and Pork Fat is a staple for me a when we have friends visiting.
Porkfat lived up to its well-deserved reputation in spades. The inviting, friendly and knowledgeable staff were exceptional only to be outshone by the delicious food they served. Acquainted with the many online reviews, we ordered the signature dishes of Chicken Tamarind Wings; Baked Queensland Tiger Prawns with Vermicelli; Green Curry of Grilled Pork Jowl and Lychee; Stir-Fried Chinese Broccoli with Shitake Mushroom; and Amphawa s Homemade Coconut Ice Cream. Each dish unearthed layer, upon layer of unique flavours. I cautiously approached each dish as many reviewers had referred to an explosion of spice meaning heat. My experience found the heat of the spices enhanced each dish respecting the beautiful produce and escalating the flavours above and beyond. My guests agreed. We did not find our dishes overly hot with chilli. The balance was perfect. The only dish that did not live up to the hype for me was the Baked Queensland Tiger Prawns with Vermicelli. While the flavour was stratospheric the gorgeous large prawns were dry. My return visit will see me ordering another prawn dish sans baking which I fear may have been the culprit. Our dessert was the perfect finale. Never have I experienced such subtle deftness when it comes to coconut and ice cream. A must-try experience, the creaminess of the ice cream alone is pure Heaven in your mouth. Booking six weeks out from the arrival of my interstate guests and unable to secure a table for four upstairs on a Saturday evening, I was encouraged by the maître d to consider a Saturday lunch booking which I thoroughly recommend as the maître d predicted will be less crazy in this 30-seat gem. Congratulations Jack Kulasai and your fantastic team, I ll be back
Chef = owner. Yummy food.
Great food. Great service. Nice atmosphere. A bit pricey.
An amazing experience. Truly lovely food that is so flavourful with amazing service and awesome use of a small space. Cant recommend this place enough!
Everything was good and especially you have to eat Barramundi dish in here. Also Somtam with crispy pork belly combination is really good too. I absolutely recommend Barramundi dish, crispy pork and Somtam. Food : 5/5
The best Thai food in Sydney I ve ever had. Everything was amazing, including service. What a gem!
So delicious! Great vibes 10/10
Food and service are amazing! Had the set menu with a group of 4 girls and everything was delicious. Rich flavours, great textures. Every person we interacted with was sweet and friendly! A note that there arent any internal bathrooms and the main building ones close at 9.15pm, so if you have a late sitting, its something to be mindful of. Will definitely be back again ASAP.
Every dish that we ordered was amazing, truly authentic flavours and service to match. Definitely will return to try the other dishes on the menu. Dont forget to save room for dessert !! Parking: Parking in the novotel just behind and a short 2 minute walk
Restaurant is extremely unfairly strict with their booking policy. I was very ill morning of booking and they would not let me cancel booking, given it was less than 24 hours. Understand there is a cancellation policy but there needs to be room for exceptions in extreme cases. They told me that the system wont allow cancellations and I should just come in despite being ill or dispute the $150 charge via my bank. I had only made the booking the night before, and all time slots were still available indicating they were not very busy! Eventually I suggested picking up food for takeaway and they were ok with this. The food was OK - the crispy pork belly and papaya salad was yummy, but the green curry with pork jowl was super salty and not to my taste. Overall a negative experience and I wont be returning. Some fairness and empathy would be better!
One of the best Thai restaurants Ive been to in quite a while. On entry the staff could not be more welcoming and attentive and make sure in every interaction that youre looked after and no detail is left unclarified. The food was incredible, the menu accommodates amazingly for coeliac providing loads of gluten free dishes and highlighting any meals that may contain cross contamination risks. The food was delicious, fresh, full of vibrant flavours and perfect portion sizes. Highlights were the papaya salad, pork jowl with nahm jim, spanner crab fried rice, stir fried Chinese broccoli with shiitake mushrooms, stuffed loligo squid, pha-naeng need brisket curry Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options Parking: Parking under Paddys market
Porkfat is delicious Thai food, we shared the crispy pork belly which was sensational, brisket curry and the spanner crab fried rice. All complimented each other beautifully. The staff and service were also wonderful, would recommend a visit.
Food and service excellent! Atmosphere was good but lights could be slightly dimmed. Also how can I buy a t-shirt?? :)
Love Porkfat!! It was great to be back after such a long time. The service is always warm and welcoming, the food authentic and totally banging. Today I was completely hungover and couldnt order a much as I normally would, but I enjoyed trying a few dishes we havent had in the past. Today the southern prawns kolae skewer stole the show.
I really resent a $10 charge for a 500ml bottle of water. And a Singha stubby at $13 is also beyond ridiculous. On these things alone I would not return or recommend. Service was good, no complaints. Atmosphere was okay, nothing special. We started with sharing the deep fried pork belly with nam jim- 50% fat and not in a nice way. Globs of white fat that didnt have the usual soft melty pork belly flavor. Then we shared tiger prawns with vermicelli, $42 for 5 prawns- so we had to add 3 more to make it a meal at $9@. So $69 for prawns on noodles (which I couldnt eat as gluten intolerant, not the restaurants fault AT ALL) and with no sauce. Overall, a very disappointing and expensive dinner that left us both underwhelmed.
If you re looking for authentic Thai to tantalise your taste buds then go no further than PorkFat. Delicious food, excellent customer service, speedy service. Chicken wings were a standout and the Barramundi was excellent
Completely different from previous experiences with Thai restaurants, this time it felt like being invited to an old Thai friends home to taste recipes that have been passed down through generations. Everything is wholeheartedly prepared, however, unfortunately, the flavour didn t blow our minds. Service is great.
Great food, great service, and great people looking after you.
Food was delicious Dietary restrictions: Finally had a delicious dessert that accommodated my lactose intolerance Food : 5/5 |
Great food, friendly staff, reasonable price
Wow ! Fresh, delicious and value for money given the quality ingredients ! Stop in for a quick snack on the way to the Star Absolutely mind blowing flavours and freshness Will be back
The small menu is full of big thai hits and we definitely need to go back with more people so we can order more. The flavours are spicy and very fresh, with just right charring from the wok. We had the brisket curry special and it was melt in the mouth tender along with incredible depth of flavour. The service was great and Jack the chef came upstairs to say hello and thank us for coming. Highly recommended. Parking: The restaurant is in a busy area, only 10 mins walk from Central Station so definitely get public transport
Beautiful Thai food that is fresh and different to the rest. Lovely, friendly service in a neat but small space. Our favourite dishes were the red curry brisket, tamarind wings and beef skewers, perfectly washed down with some Singha beers. Finished off our meal with the coconut ice cream, which was a delicious way to end the evening.
Authentic Thai food that s packed with flavour. Servings are on the smaller side for the price but highly recommend a visit if you re after some more unique Thai dishes.
Absolutely wonderful service and tasty dishes! Thank you.
Not your typical Haymarket Thai, everything a lot more polished and twice as expensive but food was so good it didnt leave bad taste. Even early on a Wednesday night was booked out, so dont expect to get a table without reservation.
Absolutely loved the experience here! Phenomenal food and service
Best Thai in Sydney. We have had dinner here a few times and we always love it. Staff are so friendly and generous. The food is insanely good. Great wine list all by the glass. Highly recommended!
I wish we had stopped to take photos food, flavour, presentation and service were outstanding! We d heard wonderful things and were not disappointed food from the flavour gods. In addition to dishes highlighted below we also had the larb. Beyond delicious. Khàawp Khun Ka Porkfat
Everything was so fresh and beautiful delicious . I felt was leaving in real authentic Thailand dishes. Never disappointed. Service was so warm welcoming. Staff so friendly. Looking forward to having a more more for sure
Amazing restaurant with absolutely delicious food. Go! Beautiful service can t really fault it.
Precious Time in Autentic Thai resturant by Our prouded chef The taste is delicious like at home. Come visit Sydney. You have to come here. Located in the Ultimo area, next to Woolworths, behind Peddys market, not difficult to find. Children play in the playground at Darling, walk to eat in just 10 minutes.
This is the best Thai food in Sydney. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. Inventive yet authentically traditional recipes. This place cannot be kept a secret.
We came here for lunch on a Sunday. We ordered the crispy pork belly, the grilled tiger prawns, the hot and sour soup of pork soft bones, the deep fried whole barramundi, and the homemade coconut icecream. The crispy pork belly and the tiger prawns were delicious and full of flavors. The hot and sour pork bone soup was good but quite spicy. The barramundi was extremely spicy, even for people who love spicy food. We asked if they could make it a bit less spicy for us. The waiter refused at first, but finally agreed to see what they could do. He brought the barramundi away then came back and gave us 3 small ish pieces of fried fish without any sauces. The coconut ice cream was standard good. It was about 2:30pm and we (2 people) were rushed out of the restaurant, while there were 2 big groups who were still there talking and laughing loudly and no one came to rush them out. This restaurant had no dedicated bathroom; they pointed us to a toilet located inside a shopping mall, which wasn t the easiest to find. For the price they charge, our experience wasn t good.
Unbelievably good Amazing Heard about this restaurant on the cook up by Adam Liaw and had to try it myself 10 stars if I could Food : 5/5 |
Service was super! The food was nice, grilled pork jowl was the best i ever had at a thai restaurant, tender and remiscient of suckling pork. The papaya salad serving was a bit small and very salty due maybe to the salty duck egg, but had a nice flavor. The grilled prawns were slightly overdone, but not bad. Overall, for thai food youre paying top prices, with the difference being mainly in the extra tentative honest service, (they dont make you over order like some places) and quality of some dishes are standouts.
Just Wow!! Food is so good at Porkfat, the flavours are on point.
Lovely intimate dining experience. Only a small restaurant so they are relatively tight with their timing. 1 hr 30 mins per booking. With that said, we had theatre tickets so a 1730 meal and then casual walk to Capitol Theatre was perfect. The food was delicious. Group of 4 had the set menu. Plenty of food for everyone, with the offer of more of any dish as required. A really nice touch for 4 stuffed diners.
Food was authentic Thai, created perfectly by a skilled chef. Beef brisket curry, pork jowl green curry, larb, green papaya salad, slow cooked pork belly and crispy pork belly. It was all so tasty, succulent and morish. We are so glad we came!
Quality Thai food with friendly service!
I normally never write review but this one i have to because it was simply the best thai food i ever had. I even gave compliments to chef on the day i had dinner. Papaya salad best i ever had even my 18 month baby loved chicken wings Thumbs up
Pork Fat restaurant never disappoints! This was our second visit, and we were once again blown away by the incredible flavors and authenticity of the dishes. The chili packs a punch, just the way we like it, and every dish we tried was a delight. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. If youre craving bold and authentic flavours, Pork Fat is definitely the place to go!
Great place to dine on authentic Thai. Delicious food and friendly service. Will be back for more
Excellent food and service, best Thia in Sydney Vegetarian options: Great veg salad Food : 5/5 |
Great experience. The food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant was a warm and friendly environment. The wait staff were attentive. I would definitely go back.
Such delicious food and the staff were just wonderful
Unique Thai dishes, that I ve never tried before. Loved the papaya salad. Service was friendly and efficient. However, the prawn dish we tried can improve. Overall good place for lunch
such an amazing spot, the food is incredible and the service was amazing such nice people. Will definitely be coming back !
Such a hidden gem. Great food and amazing service! Would go again.
The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and is quite small. The food wasnt as good as I expected but still tasty. Very spicy. The 1.5 hour seating has put me off so I wont be going back. We werent even able to finish our wine and when offering desert the wait staff made it quite clear that we didnt have time. If you like to eat and run then a good place but if you are catching up with friends then try something else.
Absolutely outstanding! We dined at Porkfat last night for the first time and will definitely be adding this to our favourites! We had the crispy pork belly and tiger prawns for entree. Both were perfectly cooked, fresh and got the taste buds firing! For mains we had the barramundi (OMG!) and the beef brisket curry (spicy and addictive). No words can express how good these were, I could eat them every night. There is only one option for dessert, and for good reason, because you d be crazy not to have it. The homemade coconut ice cream was the perfect way to finish a fresh and spicy meal. The service is a standout here. Every single member of the team is friendly, attentive and efficient. You feel extremely welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Value wise, for the quality and portion sizes, this place is very very good value. You can easily spend the same money at venues nowhere near the calibre of Porkfat. We can t wait to return, Thai food won t be the same anywhere else!
The food was delicious ( We had the QLD prawn, the pork belly and the May brisket special) and the service impeccable. Food came out quick and its definitely a spot Id visit again
The food is exquisite and the service is attentive. We ordered the pork jowl green curry, barramundi, pork belly and papaya salad. The rest of the menu looks just as exciting and were looking forward to another meal there to try everything else.
Food was delicious but menu was to small
Bad experience for booking. They cancel our reservation without any notices. We wait for a long time and this is really upset!
What a gem. Four of us dined at Pork Fat on Friday night and the food was incredible!!! Our waiter, Boon was exceptional and guided us through the menu offering fantastic suggestions. BYO too which is pretty unheard of these days but appreciated as we got to bring out some wine from the cellar. It was my husbands birthday and they were so kind and put a candle and the patrons and team sang happy birthday. Well be back again and are still talking about how good the food was. Thanks Pork Fat team. We love your restaurant so much and had a really wonderful night.
Shockingly weird service. Sat down, cracked a bottle of wine open and just as about to order, moved us upstairs. Took awhile to then actually take our order. Also visited with a pescatarian that did not help as obviously the pork dishes are the go here. But for the price there are way better Thai spots steps away from this. Will probably not visit again.
One of the best thai resto we can think of! Professional service. Friendly staff. Delicious food that made meticulously. Definitely coming back for more.
Had a really lovely dinner at Porkfat with friends. Group of 4 we shared the tamarind wings & crispy pork belly to start - both were standouts. Chinese broccoli was a surprising highlight! The Larb, beef brisket panang & green curry were also delicious. Would recommend all dishes, but definitely don t miss those starters!
Best Thai in Sydney. You can tell the chef cooks from his heart and is full of love
A wonderful dining experience. The food & service were incredible. Can t wait to visit again soon!
Pork Fat was incredible in its service, food and atmosphere! Celebrating my husband s birthday was well spent here, two days on and we are both still thinking about the incredible food and flavours. We can t wait to go back again soon!
Great food and great service, will be back there again.
Great quality food , especially the sour orange curry. Nice service , and byo option is great. Recommend booking
Great thai food. With amazing flavours. Dietary restrictions: Many great gluten free options Food : 5/5 |
The upstairs seating probably is nicer but I couldnt access due to the stairs. We ordered the set menu to try array of foods. The outstanding dishes were the larb, tamarind chicken wings and the wok fried Chinese broccoli. The flavours for all dishes were tasty and at the same time there was imperfections in some dishes. The fried barramundi flesh was dry and the beef brisket in pha-naeng curry had alot of sinew which made it difficult to chew. The service was outstanding as they were very attentive. I would like to come back to try the green curry with pork jowl and lychee dish as it sounds tasty. My friend loved the tamarind wings so much she ordered one to go. Gentle warning, it is a 1.5 hr seating so if you want to just sit and chill with mates for longer, then this is probably not the place to go. Wheelchair accessibility: It was difficult to get to mobility wise as you cant drop someone off at the front of the store. I was in a moon boot and crutches so did alot of walking but fortunately it was levelled access.
This place has amazing customer service. The hospitality in this restaurant is second to none. And they have amazing food to come with the amazing staff. We had the fried pork belly and the pork omelette. The food was that good. I wish i could eat more so I could try more of the menu. Complimented with a nice Pinot grigio. Would definitely recommend stopping in.
Love every single dish. Cant wait for the new menu for March. So excited!!! Keep up the good work Porkfat!!!
Fresh and different Thai food. We eat a lot of Thai in NY and LA. This was up there with the best.
Okay. Nothing special. Not worth the price
Amazing food!
Really authentic Thai in down town sydney! Loved the dishes if abit spicey hot but this was well explained by our server
Every bite was a testament to the chefs skill and use of high-quality ingredients. The portions were generous, and we left feeling satisfied
Loved it! Flavourful food and fun, playful staff. A great intimate experience.
I cannot recommend Porkfat highly enough! The service is attentive without being intrusive, the staff ooze warmth from their pores and always make you feel at home. The buzzy vibe is just loud enough that people cannot hear what you are talking about but you can hear each other AND the food.... It is absolutely sensational - every mouthful brings a sense of joy and excitement to my tastebuds - I will be back - often!!!
A limited and over-priced menu supported by nice staff. Four prawns for $43 ...?
Nice cosy and small. Elegant and clean. Service was perfect. I loved the fried barramundi - it was served in a way where you could take off the meat with minimal bones getting in the way. Wasn t a big fan of the prawn curry - but the Prawns were very nice and peeled for convenience.
Food was delicious. Went in hungry and went out bursting! Highly recommend this restaurant for thai cuisine. You wont get disappointed. Just make sure you reserve!
The best Thai restaurant in Sydney.
Super attentive staff who made sure my little girl get to settle in at her moodiest time of the day ( or night rather) - they served a small portion of the same dish free of spice / sauce, gave her two chicken wings (which we didnt order) and an extra scoop of pure coconut ice cream free of nuts/ sauce... and all the while cleaning up the mess she made at the table . I cannot recommend more on this restaurant. Food is lovely but their attentiveness wins my heart more!
First time last night at pork fat and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience Food was tasty , service was nice and fun good value for money that won t break the bank. Would recommend . Food
A delicious dining experience
Interesting menu, impeccable and very helpful service, excellent advice about our selections and quantity of food to order. BYO at $20 corkage per bottle is reasonable. Loved the tamarind chicken wings. Overall, we enjoyed the food. The Somtum tested the chilli tolerance of some of our group (but I loved it). The one and only dessert was amazing - enough for two to share. Glad we sat upstairs as there was a very noisy group downstairs, which would have made conversation difficult.
Its nice Thai food. Its really expensive for what it is though
My wife and I had a sensational dinner this week at Porkfat. We shared the tamarind wings, porkfat larb and Phuket curry of Queensland tiger prawns. All were sensational and oozed an authenticity that we just don t see in our hometown of Melbourne. The staff were warm and they seemed to genuinely care that we enjoyed our evening. Add BYO with very reasonable corkage and we left with a new favourite Thai go to restaurant when visiting Sydney.
This is the best Thai Ive had in a long long time, the flavours were incredible and the staff were so lovely and helpful
Ate here last night. The food is superb and the service is A great team delivering a great dining experience Parking: $10 evening entry parking at market city
Came here due to the fab reviews, but were sadly disappointed. I found each of the 3 dishes poorly balanced and almost trying too hard to be special and missing the mark. Eg the bean and prawn curry, whilst tasty and good spice, had far too much kaffir lime leaf which made it too bitter overall. Service was lovely though. Would not recommend or return I m afraid!
Best authentic Thai in Sydney. Spice I Am, our favourite, has become a bit dated. Porkfat has interesting, spicy, wonderful tasty dishes. Nicely curated small menu. Pork Larb - amazing, Mackerel Curry - tasty & hot, Thai Pork floss Omelette - fluffy Thai breakfast. Top chef, top staff, top Thai!
Saw good reviews of this place and was excited to try but the food was mediocre at best. We got the special of the month which was a sour orange curry with mackerel. At $48, the serving was really small and lacked flavour. The grilled pork jowl dish was however slightly better - the sauce that it was paired with was quite unique. We were told that they needed the table back at 7pm, which we were more than happy with, but at around 6:45pm they came and without asking, cleared our table when we clearly still had some of the rice and curry left to finish. Its a shame as other than that, the service was friendly.
Incredible service. Wonderfully exciting food. Knowledgeable staff. Really interesting and unusual flavours. Could be a little bit noisy. Loved the experience.
The food is next level! Just superb. The service is just delightful. Boon you are a credit to the business
Had the set menu which was delicious. Unusual dishes which complemented each Other brilliantly. Overall a great evening out ! Food : 5/5
First class all round, cant wait for a return visit
Loved the food sooo much and Boon s service was sensational!!
We had a fantastic time as a group of 7 - wonderful set menu - great value with lots of food, attentive and entertaining service, with an unpretentious and convivial atmosphere.
The flavours were delicious but I thought the servings were very small, the beef skewers were tough, not pleasant. The whole barramundi was quite a small fish especially considering the price. The pork jowl was an unpleasant texture.
Overall a nice place to eat out. The food is good but lacks an overall wow factor. The best dish of the day was the whole deep fried barramundi with three flavoured sauce. The waitstaff were great with suggesting what to order for a balanced meal. None of the dishes have much spice which was surprising as we were told a few were quite hot. I think the food is a little pricey for what it is. Would eat here again but it s not somewhere I m rushing back to.
This is one of my fav restaurants in Sydney. It s my go to for delicious, flavoursome food made with quality ingredients! We love it here! The chicken wings and the whole barramundi is absolutely amazing. Finish with the coconut ice cream ! The staff here is so friendly, we love it here.
Fantastic. Thank you.
Booked based on rave reviews. Was given 5-6.30pm time slot. Group of 5. Authentic Thai food but small portion sizes and pricey for what you get. We were still hungry at the end and ordered another larb. Papaya salad far too hot even though requested mild. Fried fish ok but each person only got a mouthful. Food came out like a takeaway bar. Waiter started cleaning up almost before we had even finished and bill plonked on the table at 6.15pm. We felt we should leave at 6.20pm even though we had until 6.30pm. Bill came to $250. Not exactly cheap considering the portion sizes. Wouldn t return due to the timed nature of this outfit and tiny portions.
Delicious food and good service. All your favourite Thai dishes on offer and more. BYO with $10 corkage at time of visit.
Our first time here, and it was an exceptional experience. The food was wonderful, staff friendly and attentive, and ambience and aromas that floated around the restaurant was perfect. Will be back! Kid-friendliness: Our daughter was warmly welcomed and acknowledged. Lovely Thai hospitality!
Fantastic experience. The food was delicious, the servings generous and service was on point. The restaurant is small with two levels but doesnt feel cramped. I was very glad we took a chance to try this while in Sydney. The coconut ice cream dessert was the perfect follow up after the hot green curry.
We ventured to this quirky little venue in Haymarket based on some really good write ups we read about online. The service was excellent, and our waiter was super helpful and attentive. The venue was 2 stories and a fair but bigger than it looked from the road. The food selection on the menu wasnt huge, and there were mostly choices between prawn and pork dishes. We opted for the chicken wings, which were tasty... but not up there with the best weve eaten. The grilled pork jowl was different, but far too big and rich for 2 people (would be better for 4 to share), and the prawn curry was super tasty (my favourite of the day). Overall, I would say we had good quality food with authentic flavours, worth a try for something different, but not somewhere I would be frequenting mainly due to the limited menu and options.
Had a great meal here recently. Excellent Thai food that does not hold back on flavour or spice. The pork fat larb is excellent, as was the deep fried fish, and Penang curry. Great addition to the Thai food scene in Sydney.
2023: (5 stars) Choo chee curry comes alive in the hands of the talented kitchen team at Porkfat. The red curry made of long red chillies, fish sauce, makrut leaves and palm sugar is poured over a well-presented deep fried golden pomfret ($49) and a far cry from the creamy, soupy coconut sauces you find in Thai restaurants elsewhere. It s only our second visit, but we re recognised by the talented floor team and quickly shown to a table on the mezzanine. We brought our own wine (BYO $20/bottle) and by the time we re watered up and drinking it, the first dish hits our table: Porkfat is tiny so they don t mess around. Porkfat s larb ($37) enlivens your mouth with smoked chilli and the richness of pork fat cut by toasted rice and fresh greens. Chilli here is lively but I beg you not to meddle: let this kitchen continue to balance dishes in the traditional Thai way. Nutty sator beans (sometimes called stink beans) were a highlight in the Queensland king prawn stir-fly ($43). The flavour of the creamy crustaceans was amped with prawn oil balanced with makrut. I ate this meal in the perineum (the weird period between Xmas and New Year) but have been holding off telling you about it because Porkfat don t reopen until 23 January. It s worth booking in now though 2022: (4.5 stars) Pork fat was a mainstay of Thai cookery before commercial cooking oils became more convenient. Owner/chef Narin Jack Kulasai is returning to the old ways at Porkfat Sydney, a 30-seater on the Ultimo edge of Haymarket. Inside the compact, red brick surrounds you ll find the former Long Chim Sydney head chef putting out a tightly focused menu. We re quickly seated on the lower level by staff beaming those million-watt smiles Thailand is famous for. With space at a premium, the wine list is a five-bottle affair with the French 2020 Undivided Chardonnay ($15/glass) being a cuisine-appropriate drop. Next time I ll remember to BYO ($10/bottle). And there will be a next time after the unctuous rich pork jowl green curry ($27) with bursting apple eggplants, Thai basil, kaffir lime leaves and lychees that give breaks from the dish s punchy heat. A stack of tamarind wings ($12) show great balance under crispy garlic and coriander. The star of our night is the deep-fried whole golden pomfret ($38) heaped with green mango salad (+$6) that turns out to be matchsticks of green apple, and temper the fiery heat. The fish is cooked perfectly and, while the heat levels bring a wee tear to my eye, we leave nothing behind. A shared bowl of the only dessert homemade coconut ice cream ($14) is enough to put my mouth back together. It s only barely sweet with a topping of candied pumpkin and roasted peanuts, and slippery palm seeds hidden beneath (okay, they might be an acquired taste).
Was 5* but how popularity has changed this place. Cheaper ingredients, smaller portions, rushed service. Its the little things that add up disproportionately. Reminds me of prasits rise to stardom...and fall. As a friend who shares my culinary history said one day its a culinary experience, next day its Thai food in a corridor
Beautiful food, only surpassed by service and staff. Helpful guidance and recommendations from waiter and every dish we had was a winner.
Great place for Lunch, close proximity to Central Station. We were seated upstairs and were well looked after. We ordered the green papaya salad with salted duck egg, grilled pork jowl with sweet chilli nam jim, phenang curry of marinated pork and homemade coconut ice cream. The best ever pork jowl Ive eaten, it just melts in your mouth. Chapeau to Chef Narin Kulasai(Jack) !
Amazing. Truly amazing. Staff were incredibly welcoming, service was next to perfect and the food was a good as I d hoped and I had high hopes. Literally can t wait to go back and eat the rest. Pork jowl curry, larb and the most amazing coconut ice cream. Perfection
Thai is my favorite cuisine having started out in Darley St Newtown in what I think was David Thompson s first restaurant? Then Prasits came along and to be honest I ve struggled to find a Thai restaurant where a meal has stood out like the one I had this week. Signature dishes were ordered- Baked prawn and vermicelli and the green curry pork jowl-both unbelievable- service excellent- in all respects absolutely outstanding!
Love this place! Kid-friendliness: Loved the food and the staff service Food : 5/5 |
Love that they have small menu, as it means that they do it super well . I loved every single dish that we ve had. My favourite is perhaps: Grilled Pork Jowl (but it can be too rich, definitely needs to be shared). Plenty of people including the waiters have mentioned that their food is spicy, but I don t think they re that spicy . Not much options for vegetarians & vegans. Super friendly service. BYO available (at $20/bottle corkage). Booking are recommended, as the restaurant is small. Seating is limited up to 90 min.
Once again the food was amazing beautifully cooked with passion. The staff are so genuine and wonderful. They always remember us. Dining here is a total pleasure.
Little Thai spot in Haymarket that cracks a punch. Staff were friendly and happy to help with dish selectiosn. Food was amazing- if you like spicy food must try the pork jowl with lychee green curry. The venue is two levels but quite small.
Best beef skewers I ve ever had. The service was incredible. Will definitely be back.
an excellent place to enjoy food with friends
Great food, interesting flavours. Good attentive service. A lovely dinner
We have been coming back here multiple times since it opened and the food never disappoints. The staff are all so attentive, we love coming back to try their new dishes (especially the pomfret!). Highly recommend to book early so you get a chance to try it for yourself!
Genuine THAI style dishes served by friendly staff. Great for a special event
