I walked in expecting a humble plate of fish and chips, a little nostalgia trip to my childhood, and instead I got a one-way ticket to Flavortown. Like??? Who gave this chef permission to absolutely slay my taste buds? I was ready for some basic battered cod and fries, not a full-blown culinary revival. This is the tastiest food I’ve had in ages—like if comfort food got a Michelin star and a rockstar attitude.
If you find yourself in downtown, this is an extraordinary spot that you absolutely must experience. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the offerings are truly delightful, making it a standout choice for both locals and visitors alike.
Wow. I just had probably the best meal in 5 years at this restaurant! I ordered the Cajun pork chop and was suspicious when it showed up but after I started digging in I couldn't stop! The flavors were amazing and will not forget this place. Ambiance is on point minus the TVs over the bar, they kind of take away from the feel. That's a personal preference. Servers were amazing and everything was perfect, I will be coming back here as soon as possible!
I wish I had the server's name he was incredible. The food was amazing. If that was a 10 oz. steak my son got then I want those scales. All of the food was fantastic. If you're in Huntsville this is worth a stop!!!!
I may have shed a few tears at the flavours my taste buds experienced here. I moved to Alabama from the United Kingdom in January of 2024 so it's been about 9 months since I had a proper sausage, proper onion gravy and proper chips. We ate here and the chips are absolutely bang on what British chips should be. Fluffy. Chunky. Crispy. Delicious. I also had a Pimm's Cup. I've searched for Pimm's quite a bit since moving and had no luck. It was a delight to enjoy the flavours of a Great British Summer again. This place genuinely is authentic British food. An absolute joy to dine here today and I can't wait to return again whenever I feel particularly homesick.
I'm from the UK and live stateside. I was so looking forward to Toad in the hole but it was super disappointing. Very bland and the Yorkshire pudding had a scrambled egg texture. My hubby had pear salad. That was so good. The flavours were amazing. Great atmosphere overall and friendly staff. I will definitely return but will be avoiding Toad in the Hole.
DISCLAIMER: This is not a food review but just based on my experience and you will know later why We visited cute like English restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and here is the summary of our experience: 1) Ambiance 4.5/5: This looks so English and charming. The place is painted in red and pops out from far away. It is also donned with the iconic re telephone booth on the outside. The place has an old English pub charm and is very inviting. This place could be a great place for dates. Also, The moment you enter the place, you are welcomed with a strong fish and chips smell 2) Service 5/5: The people are very helpful and friendly. In fact, when we had to leave without order, they were very understanding. 3 Food 2/5: This was our biggest gripe of leaving this before order. This place DOES NOT have any chicken dishes. When we enquired, we were told that they have a brunch menu without chicken dishes. They serve some chicken dishes in dinner and weekday menu which was surprising. I understand that we should have checked the menu online and maybe locals already know that but we were taken aback as visitors from out of town. 4) Value for money 4/5: We did not get a chance to eat here but the prices were not light on the pocket. I understand this place has a great vibe and decor but maybe not the best place for first dates. In summary: The good: a) English charm b) Friendly staff Not so good: 1) No vegetarian option 2) None to little chicken options
Atmosphere and aesthetic was great; they really made an effort to bring a British pub to Huntsville. Salted old fashioned was very smooth, but not much to brag about on the palate. Alabama green tomatoes were perfectly fried, but the money maker was the Bloody Mary marinara sauce. Fish and chips were fried perfectly (batter could have had a little more seasoning, but perfect mouth feel), recommend a little salt with the mashed peas. Felt the bar was really pulling a lot of weight as the greeter, coffee drink maker, and phone answer on top of normal bar duties; cut her a little slack that it took a minute to get a menu but first drink was out fast and attentive after the small rush at the door.
High quality ingredients that are thoughtfully paired and well executed. This is one of the best offerings from Huntsville. The staff is all on the same page and the customer service is also elevated. Dave took time out of managing a busy restaurant to personally show us around upstairs and offered suggestions for our next dinner party and even shared weekday meal ideas. The food is of course phenomenal, but its the small touches in customer service that make this place one of our very favorites.
Authentic & delicious!
Superb place, Im usually quite critical, but I must admit that its a suber table. Perfect welcome, superb atmosphere, calm but sociable. Lots of attention from the staff. In short, perfect. Also in terms of quality/price ratio. So far its the nicest table Ive made in the USA.
Service was so friendly! Youll be stuffed with the fish & chips! Food
We experienced a WONDERFUL dinner. Everything was amazily flavorful and presented beautifully. Tucker was AMAZING! He was so inviting and attentive. His descriptions of the dishes we were considering did not disappoint. From the fried green tomatoes to the drinks, everything was superb! The crabcakes were delicious. The pork pinwheel (pictured) from the Tonights Specials was out of this world! I highly recommend it! Can hardly wait to revisit! Loved the atmosphere and all of the employees were soooo friendly. We didnt get a dessert, but we will next time. Dont forget to get a delicious Hot Buttered Rum while youre there! It was the perfect choice to end a wonderful evening!
Visiting Huntsville for the first time. Hotel didnt have my breakfast, Google sent me to a place that food smelled so bad I couldnt eat. Then stumbled upon this place absolutely loved it. I had fried green tomatoes and a heffy. Any time in in this town this will be my place. Great service staff.
While the place may look great. The food isnt English. No English person is gonna eat frog legs. Custard doesnt have cinnamon in it. Its called an English breakfast but they give you irish bacon? Nah mate, this isnt it
Great food and drinks
Outstanding Fish & Chips & the bread pudding is the best! We will be back. Carol is top shelf in customer service.
I had the fish & chips while my wife had the shepherds pie- both dinners were absolutely wonderful. This was our first visit here and loved our experience! The fried green tomatoes were bland and not traditional southern fried green and the sauce was ok but it didn t take away from the amazing dinners. Service was great!
Great food (loved the house-made sausage), great drinks, and Josh was an amazing bartender.
Super fun atmosphere. Superior service, delicious drinks, and the best fish and chips in Huntsville. This is a must try.
I recently dined at The poppy and parliament and had an exceptional experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxing evening out. Steak Quality: I ordered a steak , and it was cooked to perfection. The steak was incredibly tender and juicy, with a rich, smoky flavor that was simply unforgettable. The seasoning was spot on, enhancing the natural taste of the meat without overpowering it. Service: The service was top-notch. My server (Mario) was attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring my experience was pleasant. Overall Experience: From the delicious food to the impeccable service, everything about my visit was outstanding. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy a high-quality steak in a friendly and professional setting. I will definitely be returning!
I ve been more than a few times at this point and the food is going downhill just like the service. Made my peace with the place after my last visit. Won t be back. I shouldn t have to wait 10 minutes for someone to even acknowledge I walked in.
What an amazing place! Great food, drinks, complemented by a wonderful staff.
Love the interior including the uber long bar, great for traveling solo diners. Met friends for dinner around 5:15pm, ordered entrees closer to 5:30pm, the restaurant was not full at this time but our food took at least 30+ minutes. Don t be surprised to be on your 2nd glass of wine before the food arrives table-side. The fish and chips @$26 were nicely presented, the quality was very good but not to the extent that you ll be salivating to go back. The sour beer varietal was truly satisfying and delightful at every sip. The toffee pudding had a very flavorful sauce and cream (a little skimpy) but unfortunately the pudding cake ? was remarkably dry/stale not fresh. Overall, the restaurant was akin to what you would experience in any densely populated urban area. The service was on point with exception of the somewhat painfully slow kitchen turnaround time. Budget for a single entree and glass of wine will be ~$50 plus gratuity.
The food was exceptional. I had the fish and chips and although that might sound plain - the fish was so perfectly done, it seemed gourmet! We had to wait for a table but it was worth it.
Okay P&P has a MUST try dish in Huntsville! One of the top 5 meals I ve ever eaten in my life the pork bone in cowboy steak. Oh my GOODNESS! The spinach, shallot and cider white wine sauce served with the steak is truly a piece of art. Absolute bliss on your tastebuds- you just want to drink it up! The combination of the apples with the cream sauce with the pork is simply chefs kiss. The perfectly tender and juicy asparagus paired perfectly with these flavors too. I am now raving about this dish to friends & family! Chef absolutely crushed it
Very awesome service. The seasonal pork chop is massive yet delicious. They make a great old fashioned. Only downside was they said it was smoked yet never smoked it.
Fun little spot on the downtown square. Food was great! Service was pretty good given how busy they are. Best to make a reservation.
Delicious food, great service, nice British pub atmosphere- highly recommend
Ok we visited here on a slow Thursday after lunch. Id like to say I am a foodie and lover of all things exquisite and do not mind paying good money for good food.... I have heard a lot of friends and family rave about this place. Its quaint, has a great location, the place was cute warm and inviting. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We ordered the French onion soup, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, and Shepards pie. (All seemingly safe choices). The soup.... I fought with the cheese half way through the bowl then was over it, it also lacked a rich flavor like I am used to with French onion soup (I have had better French onion soup at Panera Bread). Ok fine, maybe it was just not right for me. So here comes the two apps we planned on splitting for lunch and my childs Shepard pie.... the tomatoes were.... flavorless, especially considering that they were fried.... and the sauce... was not ketchup, but something tomatoe based, a hint of mint? Im sure there was a detailed description in the menu, but the sauce was weiiiiirrrrdddd and didnt make the tomatoes taste any better. I am southern so maybe it was the batter or lack of salt and maybe I have a great pallete but not for English sauces, so I carried on. The presentation was great, along with the service. Then here were these crab cakes. Big, juicy, looked like mostly meat, with some cream sauce drizzle... I was like ok well this is what I needed. Ummm.... the crab was super dark and grey, not whitish pink like I was used to but I though heh, maybe Im used to eatting some fake crab stuff and this is straight up just pulled of a crab that was killed this morning meat. So ok, I tried it..... the texture was there, the flavor.... was weird! The sauce was almost unpallatable.... idk what it was but I was not here for it and I am a sauce girl and love creamy stuff... I made it through half of one and gave up bc I couldnt put my finger on the weird, muted taste of the sauce and the grey crab meat. I make Shepards pie a lot, prob the cheapest easiest way.... just cooked hamburger meat, drained, seasoned, sautéed garlic onion mushrooms, a pack of Mccormick brown gravy, a bag of frozen peas and carrots. Cook down simmer. Put in a pan, make a batch of random instant mashed potatoes if its for the kids, if its for guest I might go the extra mile and make real mashed potatoes with heavy cream butter salt and pepper, spread over the meat gravy and veggies like an icing, then top with shredded cheese and bake... my kids and me LOVE IT. Now I am from Alabama, not England, so idk how authentic that is but its good enough for us. Her shepards pie.... she liked the potatoes, the meat barely had any veggies seemed like mostly meat and.... baked beans? She isnt a fan of baked beans but I am. I tried it.... it was also super weird. Didnt even smell like beef.... maybe it was some sweet baby lamb or deer or goat idk... but it smelled strange. It wasnt unedible, but I was hungry so I tried a few bites and just left it at that. Again the atmosphere and service were great, the food all sounded good, and Im not picky at ALL! I did not complain or ask for something different, I left a 35% tip on our $75 lunch.... I will probably not be back though sadly. We left and went to Jack Browns to get mu daughter (who turned 7 on this day) a burger fries and fried oreo to go bc Jack Browns always hits the spot and never disappoints... for a third of the price.
Delicious and delightful! We will definitely return to try other dishes available.
My husband and I have our go-to spots for date nights. This place takes the cake! Great service, incredible food, and a wonderful experience.
One of the best and unique dinning experiences Ive had. Impeccable.
Overall great experience. Old fashioned was excellent. Charcuterie board was the best weve ever tasted. Fish and chips were crispy with great texture. Could have used slightly more seasoning but very good. Veal short rib was a bit of a letdown so I will try something different next time. Sticky toffee dessert was great. Service excellent. Price was a bit more than expected, but I would still return.
I received excellent service at the bar today for lunch. Friendly staff and the fish and chips were great. I would definitely return.
Food was great!!! I had the restaurant week special- fried green tomatoes, fish and chips, and a bread pudding dessert. The only thing that was not top notch was the French fries. Everything else was excellent.
This place was awesome, staff is outstanding. I got the bangers and mash, I think its the best mash Ive ever eaten, and Im Irish. Carol was fantastic. If youre in Huntsville for a night or two, eat here.
We got crab cakes that I d give 7/10. Wife ordered fish and ships but not what she was expecting, very blend , and the giant piece of meat I ordered wasn t worth the $40 I paid for at all . Service was great, atmosphere is so so. Total with tip was around $113 for a bad experience.
Found this today and it was outstanding. Will definitely return when in town.
I d give Poppy 10 stars if I could!! This is the place we return to time and time again for date nights because the food is on another level. Hands down the best restaurant in Huntsville! A few of our favorite dishes are the crab cakes, escargot, and bone marrow appetizers and the duck and the pan seared gambas entrees. We split the charcuterie board last time and were blown away - it was much more than a platter of meat and cheeses!! The execution behind every dish is flawless and we haven t had anything we didn t love. On top of all that, the atmosphere and service are incredible! If you haven t been - go!!!
Fish & Chips were excellent!
The best fish and chips I ever had!
Went to brunch last Sunday and it was awesome! Authentic, all made in restaurant. The food was just like I had in England. I had the English Breakfast. They also have a store upstairs I didn t know about. I had been here before but didn t eat. Our server was Carol and she had a great personality, was super knowledgeable and attentive. Highly recommend the caramel toffee dessert.
Amazing little spot! Very helpful staff, spoke with the chef and management as I have food allergies and they were knowledgeable and helpful. They gave me several options and even spoke about cross contamination without me asking. The food was phenomenal! Great place during the day to stop for a few drinks and they re big on soccer matches as well! Upstairs is the cutest little butcher and specialty shop. Highly recommend! Pictures: Confit duck with polenta and tomatos and mushrooms and also the appetizer crab cakes. Dietary restrictions: I have celiac disease. Staff was incredibly knowledge, apparently a chefs wife is celiac as well? Super helpful!
Very attentive staff, fast service even with a large soccer crowd.
Had dinner. I ordered the duck which was quite good. My wife ordered a chicken sausage dish. She said the sausage by itself was dry but when mixed with the other items on her plate was fine. This review is based on my meal though, not hers. Atmosphere was good. We had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer which was very tasty as well. Between drinks, appetizer and two dishes our bill came to around $105... so figure $50 per person without dessert. Their dessert menu consisted of two items, neither of which tempted us too much. I would go again.
Overpriced
Awesome British experience ! Great service as well!
Stopped by here on the way to Birmingham. Random Google moment. I must say it was a delightful experience! We ate outside. Ordered drinks and my mixed drink was worst part of this experience. My margarita was too strong it was more like a shot of tequila. BUT the appetizer fried green tomatoes was amazing! Fried to perfection and served with a tomato based dipping sauce. We ordered steaks (Porterhouse and Cowboy). Both steaks were cooked Medium and served with sauces that were delicious. The cowboy was served with a cream based sauce with spinach, onions and mushrooms. The porterhouse steak was served with a cheese based cream sauce for the potatoes and a brown mushroom gravy like sauce. Great seasoning and good pairings for sides. Our bill was a little pricey but worth the money. We would return!
Popped in for Memorial day weekend flight family for a birthday dinner for my brother in law. Great service, good ambience and delicious food!
Food at lunch was great. Two of favorite beers on draft, Carlsberg and Bitburger.
It was a busy Sunday and we had a lengthy wait but it was worth it. Our waiter, John, was awesome! He knew so much about the menu and how everything was prepared. He was very informative, professional, and timely. I had the pork chop and it was hands down the best Ive ever had. My wife said similarly about the salad she got, had some kind of root vegetable. The gnocchi is fantastic! A little pricey but youre getting what you pay for: exceptional food and service.
We are from out of town but decided to stop for a drink and dinner. We were thrilled at our choice. They had a nice selection of beers on tap and wines. We started with fried green tomatoes and it was delicious! After that I had the special-stuffed pork chop with goat cheese, spinach and tomatoes on top of asparagus. Incredibly good!! My wife had the shepherds pie and was equally happy with her meal. You will not be disappointed. My only recommendation would be to lower the music level:).
We have never had a bad meal here, and the service has always been exceptional. The fish and chips are a MUST, and if you save room for it the sticky toffee pudding is a real treat. Tonight we tried the crab cakes (so good) and Caitlin (sorry if I picked the wrong spelling!) took great care of us!
Excellent Guinness. I don t really know too much about what makes Guinness this good, they tell me clean lines and twice cooled Whatever it is it s the best Guinness I ve ever had. Also, Gourmet food! Beef, tartar, duck breast, so much good stuff!
This place is more than a pub. It s an experience!! The food choices are unique and delicious, the service was top notch and personal, and the atmosphere is like stepping into a different time and place. The butcher shop upstairs has a fantastic selection of meats, cheeses, pantry items, sweets, and wear. 10/10 recommend!! We will be back.
Had a drinks - desserts, hands down top place that we have been to in Huntsville Alabama. We tried over three different steak and sushi restaurants while we were on our travel. This tops them all. Service was a little Meh, at the host stand, but our waitress was a champion, if its busy be prepared to wait or have to sit outside. No recommended for large crowds over six. , but if you dont mind squeezing some tables and chairs together or waiting your turn. Its well worth the wait. I dont see how the chef or grill cook, doesnt have any awards posted, right when you walk in, Im sure they do already or headed there soon!!!! Kudos to you my friend. Keep up the great work. Michelin star for sure. (Steaks , and frog legs, and toffee cake and fish and chips, elderberry drink, stole the show!!!)
Outstanding service, and amazing cousine. The presentation was on point, they pay close attention when plating. The crab cakes were melt in your mouth delicious, and the Ribeye was cooked perfectly. Our new new favorite Casual Fine Dining restaurant in Huntsville.
It was one of the top places I have visited. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was nice and the service was wonderful. 100% will be back.
Parking: It s worth it to park walking distance. You won t be disappointed, we ve been able to find parking spots and we ve walked about a block as well. It s worth the walk!! Kid-friendliness: De lots of families here.. kids seem to like it.
Traveling through Huntsville and was looking for a place to watch the Euros. Poppy and Parliament was a great find. Very welcoming, great service, and fantastic food. I had the fish and chips and as an Englishman, I have a high standard in the fish and chips department. Happy to say that the fish and chips served here was delicious! Thanks for Dave for spending a few minutes chatting with me about the history of the place. If you re in or around Huntsville, this is definitely worth a visit!
Really good food! And awesome service!
Really enjoyed this place. Theming was awesome. But there was a weird part --- We went upstairs to the store and there was food everywhere. I mean, as in, not wrapped up. The store was used as a staging area of some type. We felt as though we were intruding so we went back downstairs. It was a fun experience though.
Food was fantastic, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend trying it out!
We ordered the bone marrow, crab cakes, and fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and I have to say the bone marrow wasnt the best but close to the worse, crab cakes were mediocre, and the fried Green tomatoes were slightly better than good enough. For dinner, we ordered 3 ribeyes and the sardines. ***DO NOT come here for the steaks. I feel we could have gotten a better steak at Texas Roadhouse for extremely less expensive price. The sardines werent any better than a bowl of noodles with Ceaser dressing. Entire experience wasnt worth my 300$ bill.
Absolutely amazing place to get food in downtown. Also, if you are a big soccer/ football fan this is a great place to watch the games!!!
Ordered fish and chips and shepherds pie, wine and a cocktail. Mikey was our waiter and was PHENOMENAL. Attentive, personable, and made a great custom mock tail. It started raining while we ate on the patio and staff checked in, offering to accommodate us. The music was great, patio vibes were perfect. Everything on the menu sounded tasty and pricing was fair. Parking: Lots of close street options
Awsome food!!!!!
Amazing food and cocktails. The Cajun chicken salad was delicious, as was the shepherds pie! 10/10 recommend.
Usually get the duckling but the Octopus was good.
Steak was good. The fried ribs were very interesting in a good way. Definitely recommend.
One of my favorite places in Huntsville. Everything tastes amazing and the service is always outstanding!
First time with a midday lunch with my wife and we both enjoyed it. Great, fast service and the food was tasty! Will definitely be back.
Ordered shepherds pie and French onion soup. Shepherds pie was decent but the size of the meal was more of an appetizer (for $24) rather than a full dinner size. The taste of French onion soup was overwhelmed with thyme...the soup was the worst thing we ever had...So, pretty much left 2 bowls of it untouched...our server was uncaring, so the whole experience was a disappointment- waste of time and money.
Perfect balance of Ireland meets England best experience of fish and chips w/ homemade tartar sauce, and mushy peas I have ever had from my travels. Presentation to flavor is amazing Perfect, pour Guinness Cozy pub, friendly staff Neat grocery and butcher shop upstairs
Mikey and Devin are FANTASTIC! We always have the best experience!
I had a very rare Sunday brunch experience (I m usually in church Sunday mornings) and had a phenomenal meal! I loved the crab omelet and can t stop thinking about how delicious it was. If breakfast much was offered on Saturdays, I d be there every Saturday! I hear the rest of the menu is equally as delicious but I have severe dietary restrictions. Please consider offering a Saturday brunch at least once a month if not every Saturday.
Great food and deserts
Best sit-down/nice restaurant we ve tried so far in Huntsville. Everything was immaculate. Huge shoutout to our server, Kailey, and the kitchen for being so accommodating to my food allergies and cooking up something just for me. It is so nice to visit restaurants that care this much for their paying guests. Worth the money and the long-ish wait. For a Friday night they were pretty busy and we waited about an hour, so we walked the park and had a drink before getting a table. Shepherds pie and roasted duck with wine and whiskey, ending with a few bites of the sticky toffee pudding- all of it was absolutely fantastic. We cannot wait to come again for another date night!!
Were going on a road trip and ended up in Huntsville by accident. Dream city and dream restaurant. Be sure to stop by if you want something extraordinary. Service, a young lady was perfect :)
Cannot recommend this place enough! We werent sure what to expect based on the menu we saw online, but man, everything we ate was the best wed ever had I was skeptical when only four slices of fried green tomatoes came out, but lemme tell you, Id pay $13 for it again. Delicious! Atmosphere is laid back, but if you wanted to make it a dress-up date, I didnt think anyone would look askance at a little black dress. Parking: Its downtown Huntsville, near the square, so parking is limited. Kid-friendliness: This is not a place to bring your kids. Think of it as a high-end pub; not only is the atmosphere not a good fit for children, the food is expensive--worth it, but pricey!
Creative takes on traditional, and awesome foods! The most awesome chowder Ive had in years (cod). It was creamy and the right consistency with big chunks of cod. So full of flavor it needed no others. The fish and chips were spectacular, but the chips could be a tad more done. These mushy peas on the side had a citrusy tang to them. Very nice. My dining partner had the chicken sausage. Freshly stuffed curry and basil sausage with a heavenly cream stuffed over basmati rice. With a perfectly poured Guinness our dining experience was wicked awesome! Well be back.
First time trying last night and it was AWESOME!! Carol was attentive, helpful, and bubbly. She definitely knows how to work a table! She also knew her menu inside and out. I even watched her run other servers food to help out while also paying us full undivided attention!! We will be back and we will be asking for Carol!!
They have great food and incredible mixologists.
Is great.
Awesome and Mikey was just wonderful
Shepard pie was simple but really tasty and the pured carrot side dish with hollandaise was lovely.
Came back Sunday for the brunch and I bought two of my good friends along and I must say we really enjoyed it everything was amazing. Our server was Devin and he did a great job checking on us and answering questions about the menu. I also met the Director of Operations Dave and he was really cool and professional and asked about our experience. Well definitely be coming back soon
Food was pretty good, wait staff a bit stiff. I got the Bangers and Mash. Bangers (Sausages) had the consistency of ground beef crumbles inside the casing. The mash/colcannon was excellent. (Mashed Potatoes). They were topped with a gravy and what I believe were the twice fried beef fat chips. Basically the beefy equivalent to bacon. Those had some unique flavors, almost sweet undertones. Herbal. Tea and water comes in a carafe and a little pot of liquid sweetener for those who want sweet tea. Edited: Visiting today and Carl rocked the service out of this world. Thank you, Carl!
Carl was our server, and he was amazing. The fish and chips are everything I imagine theyre supposed to taste like. Will definitely be back!
Gotta get the fish and chips!
Met some close friends here for lunch today. This is a halfway point between us. We each drive 2 hours to get to Huntsville, and this could not have been a better place to catch up with old friends. The food was outstanding. Carol our server was very welcoming and knowledgeable of all things Poppy and Parlament. If you live anywhere close to here (or at least within 2 hours) I would highly recommend a visit. Cheers!
My wife and I had a delightful evening at The Poppy this past evening. We chose to sit at the bar where we were greeted with exceptional service. The staff attended to us promptly, making us feel incredibly welcome. Despite not being one to write reviews often, I felt compelled to share our experience because it truly was a memorable one. The atmosphere was so inviting; it felt like being among friends in the comfort of our own home. Were already looking forward to returning to explore the mezzanine and enjoy cocktails on the patio during the summer. This place is truly awesome and highly recommended!
Scratch kitchen, always busy, and incredibly delicious food. Its a little loud here, and thats part of the ambiance. Theres a place upstairs in the back to wait for a table to open thats the premium butcher shop with chairs, etc. Local spot thats arguably best food in the area. Parking: Your best bet is to park 3 blocks down and walk. Theyre small downtown blocks. Kid-friendliness: I wouldnt bring kids here.
Currently doesnt have a knowledgeable hostess. When asked about the menu. She referred to it as if they dont open to serve dinner until 4pm, it was 3:55. And told me yo go to the website. I guess if you want to eat here bring your phone or computer because getting information about what the chef has planned isnt or wasnt relayed. I felt judged by my appearance. Or maybe the hostess really wasnt aware of how to seat or express what the chef has planned. I will come back for a formal review once I am looking like the money I have. But I am very disappointed that I was not taken serious and seated. Until then do your own research dont show and expect the hostess to engage or be knowledgeable.
Best fish & chips in town
Our server Caitlin was fabulous and was very helpful. Food was delish. Atmosphere very quaint although when you first walk in it seems crowded it quaint and lovely.
If you want to experience traditional English favorites, this is your place. I mean where else in Alabama are you going to find Black Pudding? Google it. Im not a fan of (almost) unseasoned food. The 5 stars is for the quality and authenticity of the food. The service was jolly proper and the atmosphere spot on. Cheers!
I love this place. Food is great & the drinks are even better.
Some of the best food we have had in Huntsville. The waitress was wonderful and the operation manager was super friendly. We will be back.
Don t go there if you are hungry. The good: - Nice people - Cool British deco - Menu has original dishes. The bad: - Very weird waiting time for a table. You re told to wait 30 minutes but there were empty tables We decided to wait at an empty table that we eventually ended up sitting at when we were called. - Food wait around 1 hour after ordering. We were checked on after 40 minutes and told food is coming very soon (ended up being 20 minutes later). No bread so good luck if you are starving. - Food seems really cool on the menu. Food is eh when served. Temperature could have been hotter. Some of the stuff wasn t fully cooked. So very eh. Conclusion: a fine place to have some drinks (they will be served on time), but don t expect much with the food, and bring plenty of sudoku games to play with while the cook goes hunting for whatever you ordered.
Fantastic comfy pub atmosphere with a diverse chef-prepared menu! Have eaten here twice now, and both times have been delightful! First was brunch with the Scotch eggs, which were fantastic! Second was dinner with friends. Great selection of food with great service (I had the frogs legs and fish & chips). Highest recommendations!
Was on business trip went here for experience and was very disappointed. Our server was great , friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was bad main dinning room was very loud, actually louder than the bar area. Food was not what we expected. Ordered French onion soup and fish n chips, soup had no flavor. Fish n chips where terrible I ve had better fish from Capt. D s, the chips(fries) where actually good.
My favorite restaurant - quite literally!! I make it a point to come P&P every time I visit Huntsville and this past visit was beyond exceptional. Dave (the operations manager) spoke with us and was very hospitable. Our waiter was equally as welcoming and even asked the kitchen for a special request I had. Food as always was incredible, my typical order (the shepard s pie) is a must if you haven t tried it. I am so excited to come back during my next trip back down here, well done! :)
Wow. Food was absolutely delicious, service was excellent, portions were more than enough- my fiance and I shared the fish and chips plus a bowl of French onion soup.
We love this restaurant! Friendly service and the good is wonderful, especially the fish n chips. Best *****French onion soup, really really great. See you soon
Good stuff! Great atmosphere, and the portions are huge and delicious! But I have to mention, if youre going to pre-temp your dish as medium rare on the menu, you shouldnt serve sushi.
Went there for a pre-Havoc game dinner with an hour and a half before the game started. I ordered one of the special chicken dinners and was not informed that it takes over an hour to prepare until 20 minutes into them making it. During the next hour of waiting we were only checked in on once. I asked for the check while we were eating as the game had already started at that point. Took the waiter another 20 minutes to take our cards and another 10 to process them. It s such a shame because my meal was great and the restaurant itself is charming but the service made it a super frustrating experience. Won t go back because of it.
We had a great experience here! The food, service and atmosphere were all amazing. Check out the shop upstairs after dinner.
Fish and chips are legit. Really wish they d pull a proper pint of Guinness though. Last several times I ve been, they pull the full pint and set it down in front of me, still falling. Breaks my Irish heart. Also fix the cask draw system. Shame to have a legit English pub with no London Pride on cask draw. Been to other places in the south that have it it may be hard, but not impossible. For the price they charge for fish and chips, they could stand to fix it. But mainly, the Guinness.
Server failed to tell us they were out of the specials after we pondered the menu for 15 minutes finally deciding on the specials. The roast beef and mortadella are served ICE cold on un-toasted bread. The crab cakes tasted like barely warm grandma s tuna salad with inside-her-purse floral notes. The fried green tomatoes were fried flavorless. Points for cold beer.
I really wanted to like this place. I was so looking forward to eating here with my husband. A couple of days ago we got to the restaurant and the Host was rude. He said they had a wait, but there was no one waiting. He got my cell and said he would let me know when there was a table. We waited around for a while and finally decided to go to eat at Beezr which was one of the best meals we have had in a restaurant. The Host for Poppy and Parliament never did contact me about an available table. I would put zero stars if I could!
Atmosphere, beer, and fish and chips were good if you can get them. But the food is not really English pub fare. Edit, updating review. We returned to here for lunch and were told to wait 10 mins to change over to a new menu. Never told that meant an hour of no food being cooked and it would take another 45 mins to cook fish and chips when they did begin again. And thats fine but the bar staff was incredibly rude and threw the menus down and I said, politely, you may want to make sure the hostess provides more clarity when saying about changing over menus. And he rolled his eyes and proceeded to angrily talk about us to the other staff within earshot. The hostess the threw menus down and had some smart remarks to say. I was never rude until the staff were extremely unprofessional and rude to me. We love the food however with staff like this Im surprised anyone returns. Rudeness to customers when they were not rude to you and just wanted clarification instead of being ignored is never tolerated.
Host was rude and bad mannered; we were greeted with lack of interest. The host said there was a wait, but it seemed to be available seats. It was cold outside, and it would have been nice to wait and have a drink at the bar while we waited to be seated, but the host did not invite us in. We waited outside and after waiting a long time we decided to go next door to Beezr, and what a difference it was, the host at Beezr was friendly and welcoming. That happened last Wednesday, the Host at Poppy and parliament could use some education.
Tonight Diner was disappointed. I always like this restaurant but tonight my food it was a disappointed. The minute you walk in the restaurant The scent that emerges from a natural edible product. Small bad. I have the veal steak. Meat was under cooked, sauce was ok and the polenta cake with Sage was expired, slimy, smell bad. Just couldn t eat it. Polenta is so cheap the chef can make it fresh daily without compromising this dish. The unweet tea tasted old and you can see the bottle was dirty. I addressed to our service but there was no apology. She said she told the Chef??? The server did not addressed this issue to the Manager . No one came to visit the guest table.
We checked out Poppy and Parliament for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. The food and drinks were amazing. I was impressed when the waiter asked if I had any food allergies and then made sure to make adjustments to my meal to accommodate them.
I have been to Poppy and Parliament several time and it is always delicious. I will be going back! *side note: I left my purse at the restaurant and the staff and management were so careful and considerate with my things until it was back in my hands. I am so thankful for their kindness! Dietary restrictions: They were considerate of any dietary restrictions we may have had.
Nice atmosphere, unique feel, great service. Large portion (about right for the price), better to share than take home. The fish in the fish n chips was better than what I got in England (they do tend to under season over there though). The chips were decent but got greasy quick. The mashed peas were strangely extremely bitter.
Ive been to the UK and France several times. The French onion soup and fish and chips here rival the best
Food was pricy for the quality of it.
Authentic pub, had the bone marrow and a couple pints. The bar tender was well above the standard, Kelly keeps the conversation relevant and the glass full. Met the manager who was friendly and educated in the British themes of service. Make sure you go up stairs to the deli and jam store, again authentic. Dietary restrictions: Asked BEFORE putting order in, excellent.
This place is amazing... . Everything is fantastic and fresh. I could not recommend this place more. With an in house butcher shop and a charming English style pub atmosphere you instantly feel you are in another place and time. Parking: Only con is being in downtown parking is limited to street parking and shared by many businesses. Dont let that deter you.
Adorable pub atmosphere. Great service but food was definitely just ok . To be fair, I think this was personal preference and nothing that they did wrong. The seasoning on the T-Bone, as well as the accompanying sauce were both terrible. Same for the pork chop. Again, I definitely think this was personal preference and not the food itself. The beef fat fries were also disgusting. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the duck, but other than that we really would not recommend this place, unless you are already partial to this type of food. The sticky toffee pudding was good but definitely not as moist as a puddings that I m used to. Also, the French onion soup was decent. Overall, this will be a one and done for us.
Fun atmoshere inside and out. We have food allergies and really appreciated the time they took to get our oder just right. The bangers and mash were amazing!
Atmosphere was nice food was awful wife and I had cold soup which we was told it suppose to be warm. Fish and chips no chips just fries was greasy. We wont return. What we ate came to $100.00 US dollar what a rip off. This restaurant was too hoity-toity for my taste.
Great fish and chips!
Tried Poppy and Parliament out last night for the first time. Quaint little restaurant with a butcher shop upstairs. Food was amazing! Weather was perfect for the patio. Our server was excellent, he gave us excellent descriptions and suggestions. (He also asked about food allergies, we dont have any so can say how well they would have handled if we did.) We got the Gnocchi as appetizer, first time I had it. It was so good I would almost say Ill give up regular pasta. My wife grew up in Australia, and has a hard time finding good fish and chips. That way she got and said it was perfect, even commited that it stayed hot for a lot longer then she would have expected. I got the pork chop it was really good. But the sauce and spiced apples were INCREDIBLE! We will definitely go back!
Best English pub youll find in a hundred miles.
Despite the odd start to walking in this establishment( I ll just leave it at that) I truly can not say Ive had better from Downtown Huntsville, Ever. I am blown away, Chef did NOT disappoint. The duck was amazing. Thank you again to the amazing manager who smoothed things over, I wish we had met under better circumstances. Thank you again for the culinary delight.
We went here for a beer and to try the french fries. The fries was as good as described in the reviews. Excellent service. The staff made sure we had been served. Nice atmosphere in the historical building.
Dont know how authentic this place is since the staff doesnt seem to know much about British food. They do fish and chips and have sausages, so I asked if theyd do me some battered sausage and chips because its hard to get in the US. Cue general confusion and weirdness. Never mind eh.
Great English pub with upscale English fare. Food was good, service excellent. We were too early for happy hour, so no drink specials were had and the sign didnt indicate that they had one. They had English football on the tellie, several fans watching the game. Upstairs is a small shop with English items and meats. Worth a stop if you like fancy pub fare.
We loved our 1st to P&P!!! Amazing customer service, creative intentional dishes, the upstairs market were all top notch. If you have any enjoyment of fish and chips ..then do it...hands down one of the best of that dish we have EVER had. Kudos P&P ... Kudos!
Enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, especially on the patio. Absolutely outstanding food, we were blown away by the creativity and quality of the dishes. Vegetarian dishes are available, and they can alter dishes for dietary restrictions as well. Kitchen closes at 8pm just fyi! But the bar serves until 10pm.
Best restaurant in town hands down. Amazing food and cocktails.
I visited with a small group for a weekday lunch. The food was absolutely delicious. We were also able to meet the Chef & speak with her about all the upcoming happenings. I will definitely be back! Get the fish & chips! Recommended dishes
Love this place today we tried lunch crab cakes top notch. We have eat here several other times and everything is amazing. The fish and chips frog legs and everything else is amongst the best you will find spiked coffee is great drinks are good service bartenders and atmosphere is top notch. Put this on your must try list you can t go wrong.
Great restaurant with beautiful location. Meal was very nice however, potatoes were slightly cool. Store located in second floor was very nice.
Although the food is on the more expensive side, it is an amazing experience and worth your time. I recommend the fish and chips, French onion soup, and the steaks look amazing. The desserts were to die for, and a plethora of drinks to mention very very good service.
Food: Unreal. Delicious. Mouthwatering. Drinks: Unique. Refreshing. Quality. Service: Patient. Friendly. Fast. Added bonus: The server gave a patron with a doggy a water bowl with ice water. 11/10, do it.
One of our favorite new places weve ever tried. Staff is always great and they take extra precautions for gluten allergies. Love the food and experience every time.
Their Beef Tartare is quite solidly one of the top 3 best tasting things Ive ever had in my life. While they have a fixed menu, they have a pretty robust rotating menu and drink menu as well.
A neat experience and delicious food. I had the fish and chips, and my friend had the salad and onion soup. I didnt care for the mashed citrus tasting peas, but we finished everything else. My fish and chips were served traditionally in newspaper. It was like I was in England. It was worth the 30 minute wait.
Food came out cold, fish and chips were greasy. The atmosphere was nice as was the service. A bit pricey for what you get.
The food is delicious, and worth the price. Loved the atmosphere as well as the service.
My wife and I had been for brunch a few weeks ago (excellent) and we had the Alabama version of British weather yesterday (I mean that in the most positive sense - cooler temperatures and rain) so we thought fish & chips and a pint. Best fish & chips I ve ever had (sorry England)! Julian took good care of us and I asked him to pass along to the kitchen staff how pleased we were with the quality of the meal. The fish was lightly battered, cooked perfectly and flaky. The fries were crispy. The bonus was the mushed peas as done in England. Great experience. We ll be regulars now.
The food was excellent, the service was absolutely incredible, and the atmosphere was relaxingly great. I sat at the bar, ordering drinks and food and both bartenders were attentive, welcoming, timely, professional, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure that myself as well as the other patrons were taken care of the entire time.
Food, drinks and service were excellent
Great food and perfect drinks! Devin was fantastic!
Will recommend this place everyone I know visiting Huntsville. Chef Kristen and her staff KNOW how to make delicious, inventive, perfectly seasoned food. I cant say enough about how AMAZING the food was. I will be talking about the pork ribs for years to come .
I have a rare and highly annoying food allergy that makes it almost impossible to go out to eat. I asked if they could just make me a simple salad so I could eat something with my friends. The chef came out to learn more about my allergies and see if she could make me something a little better. It was so nice of her! The salad was so good and I really appreciate the staff putting in extra effort to accommodate my allergies!
Very interesting place that takes you mentally to England. Very good food, unsweet tea can be had with simple syrup. Super friendly and helpful staff. Parking: Parking on the street is hit or miss.
The staff was great, everyone was super attentive and friendly! The fries were good and the crab cakes were fantastic Unfortunately the fish from the fish and chips I got (+ my friend who ordered the same thing) smelled like ammonia and was spoiled, I thought the smell was someone else in the restaurant but it was the food
Loved this place! Overall the food was excellent! The fish and chips were slightly over salted but otherwise good. The gnocchi and the ribeye were great! My friend loved the crab cake. I had an Old Fashioned, which was good. We also had the Irish bread soda, which had good flavor but was a little over cooked. Service was great! One of my friends has celiac disease and they were great about making sure there was no cross contamination of gluten. Highly recommend this place!
We sat upstairs and our server was amazing! He was super nice and made sure everything was perfect and gave great recommendations. The food was delicious, my husband was very happy to find porterhouse on the specials menu.
Fantastic fish and chips.... would eat it everyday if I lived closer lol
Went with 4 people. One of the people had an allergy. We notified the wait staff. The bad news is they cross contaminated the food while cooking, good news, they caught it before it was served. Bad news, they had to re-cook the order but everyone elses food was ready, by the time we (I chose to wait for my food so he wasnt eating alone) for our dishes the other two in the party were done with their meals. The food was very dry and salty. The portions or quality did not warrant the $300+ bill at the end.... The staff was friendly, but the wait staff was quick to blame the kitchen for the allergy mess up. They have very limited selections of food and beverage, and I would not recommend it. Dietary restrictions: They have limited selection, and although they ask about allergies, the communication between wait staff and kitchen need improvement for safety.
The food is oustanding, fish and chips were the best I have ever had, the gin and tonic was great. Service was great and I will be back..
Excellent slice of Britain with great food and ambience. Good choice for special occasions. Neat little shop upstairs with authentic delicacies and souvenirs.
A nice upscale pub with good fare.
Good food and service
Atmosphere and service were fine. The we ordered wine, an old fashioned, fish and chips, and bangers and mash. The old fashioned tasted like they let the ice melt for 15 minutes before bringing it to me. My wife said the fish and chips was just greasy. The bangers and mash was bland and beyond over cooked. The sausage crumbled to pieces trying to get it on the fork. All that and beyond overpriced for the quality. I ll never be back.
Legit real English breakfast, best Ive had since London
This is one of the places I always recommend when we have guests visiting from out of town. My dad visited us today and we both had fish and chips. My husband had one of the sandwich specials. We also shared a sticky toffee pudding. As always, excellent service and wonderful atmosphere. Best drink selection. I love the Magners Irish cider. I visit the store upstairs every time I go to The Poppy and Parliament to get a few Cadbury candy bars.
This place is awesome. My wife and I got the 40oz tomahawk. It was cooked to the perfect temp that we requested. The seasoning on the steak was simple salt and pepper, but the crust was awesome. One of the head chefs came and carved it table side and ensured that every piece was perfectly cook before putting it on our plates. The sauce they served with it only highlighted the taste. Highly recommend and would go back.
5 star place for a 5 star man
Every time we have dined there we have had wonderful service, food, and atmosphere. We have not tried anything we havent liked. Well worth it!!
Wonderful place. Dave, the manager was terrific! They went out of their way to accommodate us, make us feel comfortable, and that we were content.
Fish n chips was mouth watering.
If you really arent sure what to order, just order several appetizers, those will make a meal for you. Food was decent.
Excellent, friendly, unintrusive yet spot-on customer service and dishes full of flavor! The crab and spinach frittata had an almost hearty flavor to it and the hollandaise sauce was the perfectly creamy pairing. For dessert, the strawberries with chocolate were an excellent combination of sweet and tart, including the fresh whipped cream and moist chocolate cake. The environment was very conducive to casual conversation and the restroom was bright and clean. I recommend this place for brunch and look forward to returning to try more menu items.
Great food at good prices. The beer options were also top notch and of course the atmosphere was right where it needed to be on a weekday night. If you get there before 5:30pm youll have your choice of seats but anytime after there could be a wait.
The service was great, our hostess as well as our waiter were very friendly and accommodating. Maybe a 15 minute wait for Sunday brunch, which we didnt mind and honestly expected and had a chance to check out their gourmet foods and butcher shop upstairs. We ordered from the specials menu, a steak and eggs dish and a steak sandwich with chips. Food was slightly underwhelming but overall we had a good experience. The only negative comment would be the wait time. We have absolutely no problem for a cook to order meal but we did wait 15 minutes to be seated than an additional 45+ minutes for our food to come out. So if you have the time and like English pub food, this would be right up your diagon-alley *Oh also, I wouldnt necessarily say this is the most kid friendly environment either due to the wait and overall atmosphere unless you plan to dine outside.
We had a lovely time! The fish and chips were phenomenal as well as the gnocchi, but the absolute must try is the pimm s cup cocktail.
First visit for Sunday brunch with my brother. New experience, British food is definitely outside of my wheelhouse! Atmosphere is straight Brit/Euro pub. Lots of wood, large bar, soccer on the tele, big red phone booth outside, etc. We shared an order of chips (fries) to start, and they were outstanding! I think theyre fried in duck fat, which makes them extra tasty. My brother requested some of their house made tarter sauce for dipping, and after trying it, I understood why. The best tarter sauce ever! I opted for the Toad in a Hole entree, which I can say wasnt quite what I was expecting with my untrained American palate. It was fresh and piping hot and a good portion. The sausage had good flavor, and the Yorkshire pudding was an interesting new experience for me. I found myself wishing that the onion gravy was a little richer. My brother had the Scotch eggs, which appeared tantalizingly scrumptious but disappeared before I could think to ask for a taste. He said theyre delicious. Additional notes: Service was quite good. The coffee Americana was very good. The little store and butcher shop upstairs was interesting. I was surprised to find very reasonable prices on the fresh meats they had on offer!
If it werent for the American accents, we would have thought we were in the heart of London. What an amazing British Pub! Everything about it was authentic. We were very chuffed by the atmosphere, the service, and the choices of food and drink. They offer quite a few original specials which all looked amazing, but we opted for two British pub mainstays, Bangers and Mash and Fish and Chips, both of which were the best weve ever had. Well be back to try everything else. And be sure to try the Monty Python Holy Grail Pale Ale. By far the best British ale Ive ever had. Cheers!
Great environment, service, food, and drink. It was like being in the UK again. A sanctuary in the south.
A very nice restaurant/pub with great english food and drink. Service was exceptional. Carol was on it. Great job.
Ceritha was absolutely the best. The food was incredible and she made the experience unforgettable. Ive never had such amazing service. This was my favorite dinner while visiting Huntsville.
This place is awesome. The best grill pork chop and the fish was delicious. The service was great! I highly recommend eating here.
Visited on a small vacation, definitely a must visit for tourists. Food and service was amazing, shop upstairs is a must see.
I came here as part of my visit with my friend who moved to Huntsville, and Im so glad we got to go! Last time we tried, it was around St Pattys day and very busy This time we easily got a table just after normal lunch rush outside. The weather was so wonderful and everyone was in a good mood for it. The space is beautiful, both inside and out, and everyone is friendly and helpful. Im not a huge alcohol at lunch person, so I just had water. BUT THE FOOD. I ordered the gnocchi and smoked salmon and my friend ordered the fish and chips. She has been here before, so she knew what she wanted. She even asked for both Mayo and ketchup because she mixes them together and the very kind server mixed it for her! So nice. The gnocchi and smoked salmon was AMAZING. The portion was also perfect. I was full, and I was only a bit too full because I helped my friend eat her delicious chips! The prices were reasonable considering the quality and portion of the food, and this is definitely a spot I will return. I will also bring a cooler next time because their little gourmet grocery is wonderful! You should also check it out.
Excellent fish and chips. Menu could use more pub options. Bar needs more UK beers on tap and bottles, like Newcastle, Boddington, Kilkenny, and Belhaven.
Great atmosphere, kind staff, amazing food, awesome drink selection. I would say the prices are on par with the quality, but some may find the price-point a bit high. The gourmet store upstairs was also very neat! Overall a really good experience; I look forward to returning!
Been there one time, got fish and chips for lunch. Fantastic. Even the mashed peas were delicious.
Love the fish and chips! Best I have found in Huntsville. The restaurant is super cute and everyone has loved the meals they have ordered. It s definitely a great place to get a yummy meal. We go a few times a year.
The Poppy and Parliament is amazing! I ordered the Traditional Fish and Chips and was not disappointed. It is served wrapped in parchment paper which is then wrapped in newspaper just like in London! It was delish! My husband ordered the sardine dish and he loved it. We will be back for sure!
Three of us went here for the first time and we all enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and the unique food. Carol was our server. She was friendly, knowledgeable and took her time explaining the dishes. We shared two appetizers (crab cakes and bruchetta), and three meals (fish and chips, goat cheese tart, and chef Barrys three in one). Everything was exceptional. You cant go wrong with the fish and chips, but I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed the Chef Barrys three in one (minus the Irish bread, which we werent fans of). There was a decent amount of street parking. They have high top and regular tables inside and a nice patio out front. Oh, and after we placed our order we went upstairs to their specialty grocery shop which includes a butcher shop and food from the uk and Ireland. I highly recommend this place!
Haley was a great server and gave me a proper introduction to the restaurant, the shop, and how to unwrap my fish and chips. The shop is upstairs; meat, candy, tea,...and more. Food
We found the Poppy and Parliament on Gmaps. We sat on the patio and watched the sun going down. Our waiter, Devin, normally a bartender, was attentive, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. Our meal was DELICIOUS and very special. What attention to details on the gourmet combinations of flavors and beautiful details. Be sure to walk upstairs to the shop and find some more yummy food and fun souvenirs. Thanks for an enjoyable dining experience.
Amazing little spot...so cute, easy parking. I had Bangers and mash and a Guinness to wash it down. If you come to Huntsville, come here.
Great fish and chips!
Asked for only one drink, instead I unknowingly was given a TRIPLE and when I told the server this was incorrect, she said that s what you ordered and it can t be changed absolutely ridiculous. Very poor service. What should have been a $20-30 meal ended up being over $50. Don t give someone a TRIPLE without asking, especially when they only asked for ONE drink!!!!
Beautiful restaurant and good service. The fish and chips were super disappointing. Very greasy and overall unappetizing.
I went with my parents, we all tried the fish and chips. We were disappointed, $22 for one piece of fish and a lot of chips was a lot. I didnt really care for the chips, they had a strange taste and they werent very crisp. The fish was good, but nothing special. Drakes fish and chips are better and a better price $19.19, is a larger portion as well. Fur that matter Captain Ds or Long John Silvers is a better overall deal.
This place is completely one of a kind outside of the UK. Felt like traveling- very special to have access to such an authentic atmosphere. Their winter cocktails are bussin bussin. Don t sleep on the French onion soup- absolutely delicious and nourishing. We watched another table get to unwrap their fish and chips, and a giant apple pork chop- looked so good. They also have a shop upstairs where they sell local artisan meat including a whole grass fed suckling pig. Will absolutely be back!!
Had a great lunch on the patio on a Saturday afternoon. Great atmosphere, great food and superior service. Ask for Carol. See is amazing.
Best fish and chips Ive had since visiting England.
I enjoyed my time until I experienced an hour wait and received a burned T-bone. The meat tasted like charcoal and with uncooked hard thick potato slices. The shepherds pie didn t have much flavor. I went it for an experience and was let down for sure.
When I first came in, I was ecstatic. The atmosphere was cozy, inviting, alive, and dripping with the quaintness of an English pub. We were told our wait would be ~30 minutes for a table, so we decided we could get a drink at the bar while we waited. I stood at the bar, while I waited to order a specialty drink, it was made and delivered. Shortly thereafter, we were seated at a hightop. Once here, we promptly placed drink orders for a cocktail and a draft beer. From this moment, I kind of soured... The subsequent drink order took roughly 20 minutes to be brought to the table. Once it arrived, we actually immediately requested to place a second drink order and placed an order for our food. Important to note, our server was incredibly kind, cheerful, and ameliorated the downer that was waiting wait seemed too-long on the beer. Once the food came out, we were sold. We just ordered fish and chips and man... it slapped. The server undressed the bundle in front of us, walked us around the plate, and continued to check in if we needed anything. The beer battering on the fish was crisp, the chips were excellent, and the tartar sauce was splendid. The primary reason I write this review though is because of the host, Dave. He was exceptional. Dave was speaking with various guests in a manor that was both courteous and entertaining. His countenance had a notable cheer, seriously, and joviality to it that I wish all hosts would. On our way out, he asked if we wanted some drinks to go. Without applying pressure, he made an excellent proposition that they will definitely be more expensive at our next destination. With that, we were successfully upsold on a beverage from The Poppy. Definitely visit here when you are in town if you want a different experience than your run-of-the-mill burger joint. It feels like youre dropped of in some pub in England; an exceptional reprieve from traditional American fare.
NOT TYPICAL PUB FARE! Excellent choice Ed from menu, carefully prepared by Parliament s Line Cooks and kitchen staff and carefully delivered to table by serving staff! What a great experience and top notch cooking. The food was delicious and served at a perfect temperature. The Fish and Chips is indeed a signature dish of theirs! I enjoyed my BANGERS AND MASH, Sheppard s Pie was flavorful and oldest boy enjoyed his tomahawk pork steak, all 14 ounces!!! What a great dining experience!
This is an outstanding place to hang and get a bite. We had simple things that were not simple at all. The French Onion soup had nifty earthy flavors, sausages with Yorkshire Pudding, and an open faced clever pastrami that was mild and subtle. We will return. This was very upscale British food with a twist. Hats off to the team at this well run spot.
We were in messanine which is sort of private seating above pub. Service was very personable and quick... Food was consistently better than than expected, Will definitely return...
Great all around.
Carol is PHENOMENAL and has the best pens! We told her we were on a time crunch and she got our food out quickly and kept us on schedule. We had the best food and Carol ensured we were on time. I highly recommend and ensure you ask for Carol!
We had an incredible meal here, from the drinks, to the gnocchi and fried green tomatoes as appetizers, shepherds pie, steak, and finally chocolate orange bread pudding, the food was fantastic. Our server was helpful and attentive. The whole experience made for a very special occasion!
