Sitar Indian Cuisine in Huntsville

I love Sitar. I love the food. I love the staff. But be warned: if you come in for lunch after 1, and your family is not done with lunch, they dont care. They will clear out the lunch (weekend) buffet by 2:15 and kick you out at 2:30 exactly. Ive never been to any other restaurant that does this. This makes us need to pick a different venue if we cant get there by at least 12:30. Which is sad, because I would rather go to Sitar. I love it, so I just go early. Dietary restrictions: I am celiac, and this cuisine generally does not contain wheat.

Love me some Sitar. The mixed grill is always a treat, and veggie samosas are some of my absolute most favorite things in the world.

Im almost afraid to give such a positive review of this place. I absolutely love their food but I dont want the word to get out too much. I love being able to always get in and out quickly. My favorite dish is the Tikka Misala and I could eat a bucket full of their mint chutney with the fresh Nan. Its just amazing food!! Parking: Would love if they could add the mint chutney to the online menu. Its not an option to choose. Only the mango chutney appears. But, its worth calling for!!

We were in town for the week and just left Sitar. The food was AMAZING! We started with the onion bahji which was great and then I ordered the Shrimp Nirgisi which was fantastic and my husband ordered the Chicken Jalfreez, also wonderful. We had the Naan and we were stuffed and so satisfied when we left. We will be back next year on our yearly trip to Huntsville.

Indian Buffet. Do you need more description? I usually dont. Ive only had one poor experience after that phrase and it wasnt here. For whatever reason Indian buffets are great, where chinese or Murican generally are all you can stand. GO EARLY here. They (understandably) stop replenishing about a half hour before closing of buffet....so it can be slim pickings. The building is tired and worn if that matters. The staff is great, the naan is hot. Price is a bargain. Ive ONLY eaten the buffet so, all else is a mystery. The spice level is real if not Authentic. If you live local and DONT have Jordan Lane as your lunch go-to, you absolutely should. If youre familiar with Buford Highway in ATL, this is a Jr version.

Good prices, good service, yet, oddly, a bit bland food. I stopped in for the lunch buffet, and the tikka masala and curry was quite frankly a bit bland. Which is an odd thing to say about Indian food. I might give them another try thats not buffet.

We have ordered biryani and chicken Manchuria. The taste of the food is very bad like we can t even eat that after tasting a little. We were very disappointed with the taste. We thought of not visiting the place again.

The Chicken Madras was a scrumptious, silky dish that had a rich color & flavorful curry even at a mild spice level (I usually order medium to hot). The naan at this place is soft & poofy & the best naan in Huntsville. Don t expect much conversation from waiters, as they have a serious work ethic and they re always busy, but the food is prompt and always fresh & reminiscent of delicious Indian food growing up in Toronto. I go here when I miss Punjabi or Northern home cooking. It s reasonably priced too.

When we were there, (we were a huge party btw) we asked for a naan and they declined us saying that the kitchen is closed, but in front of us they were serving naan to other people, so one of the guys there said to the worker there to treat us right or else we wont come, then the worker said straight to use that you dont have to come. We knew them for years by the way, probably for 10 years, and are still this rude to us.

The food there isn t good and the service is extremely horrible.they lie to the customers saying the can t make more and then continue to serve others moments later with fresh food.also they talk with customers with no respect.Never go hear again it is horrible experience.

We tried the lunch buffet which was really delicious with great variety. My only desire was to be able to spice up the dishes a bit more with a hot sauce that matched the flavor of the food. We will definitely visit again since this place is open all the time

Since I have eaten vegetarian food all my life, I can tell the taste and compare it quickly. Food is good but not great. Service was okay too since they do not care whether we liked the food or not. I mean nobody asked the question. Only liked chilli pakora out of it, malai kofta and kaju kari. Chai was also okay but the good thing if you are a chai lover is that they refill it

Delicious, clean, and good buffet. Half of the options were veg, half meat. My one recommendation would be to have a spicy daal or something in the buffet. The heat was very mild compared to other Indian food. Very cute find, will be returning for date nights.

Right by my house. Always DELICIOUS!!! And my absolute favorite!!!! Parking: Parking lot is pretty small and it since it gets full pretty fast (which proves how good it is) is kinda crammed or go around the side/back to find additional parking.

The staff is extremely rude. Today was my third and final time spending time and money there. The food isnt all that great at Sitar to begin with, and with rude staff, its a waste of money and time.

Terrible food

Our 1st Indian experience. My daughters Lamb Rogan Josh was outstanding.

Food was very good. Having folks who know North Indian food is helpful. The naan with the meat inside was quite addictive. Shrimp with cashews was very yummy. The music seemed a bit too modern for the atmosphere they are trying to create.

I frequent this restaurant often and every time I go I am not treated the best but I continue to go because I like the food. However, we went to this restaurant yesterday and was treated worse than usual. When we entered the restaurant the man at the desk asked can I help you and he told us to pick any booth. We went to sit down and he put the menus on the table. My friend already knew what she wanted to order and asked if we could order. He put his hand up and said keep patience continued walking away then turned around again and said someone s at the desk when he returned we ordered and he walked away. The food came out and a man from the kitchen brought it to us ((he was very nice) and went back to the kitchen. We were the only people in the restaurant at this time and the guy at the front stared at us the entire time we ate with his arms crossed. It was a very hostile environment and didn t feel like we were welcome. I only give this place 2 stars because the food was good. However, the service was terrible. Also, after every little thing that the man did for us we continued to thank him and he would never respond to us and just walk away.

Sitar is my absolute fave Indian food spot. The lamb Rogan Josh is delicious and the garlic naan is always on point. Ive tried a few other spots but this place is my go to. Parking: Parking can be difficult during peak hours.

I ordered a vegetarian dish, but it was not what I had thought. Before ordering, consult with the manager because I had eaten it before but didnt know the name. When I called him to ask him that it was not what I wanted he was rude to me. Even though I told him I was going to pay for the dish, I just didnt want to eat something I didnt want.

Sitar is a great place to eat Indian food!! I got the shrimp appetizer. For the entree I got paneer tikka masala medium and paneer onion naan bread!! They give basmati rice to pair with your dishes that your order most of time !! The water is also good and I never order a soda with it. I would highly recommend going here if you love Indian food. Parking: Parking is directly in front of the restaurant and seems to be enough for the space inside for dining. The Best Indian restaurant in town! I ve converted friends and family into Indian food lovers with Sitars help many times. They will make everything as spicy or mild as you want.

Stay away! The food has to be drained. Water literal sits under the food. The quality is poor. As far as service is concerned, what a joke, the guy up front acts like its a bother for you to be there. The atmosphere is dirty, old, grungy, and smells of mildew. The best Indian food in this area is Indian kitchen. Even with it being 20 minutes further than Sitar its WELL WELL worth it. Dont waste your time or money here.

Went for the lunch buffet, and it was not very good to say the least. All of the sauces tasted watered down at best. Many of them had no flavor whatsoever. The chicken was overcooked. The service was minimal, which is somewhat expected for a buffet, but I think we may have had a total of 3 words said to us the entire time we were there. It was edible, but would not recommend for Indian food.

I have been to Sitar or ordered from Sitar numerous times and tonight was beyond disappointing. We walked in and waited about 5 minutes to be recognized by the staff. There was only a door dasher ahead of us. The waiter gave us two menus and pointed to a table for us to seat ourselves. A crowd soon came in after us and he seated each of them at their individual tables and gave them their menus at the table. We waited for over 20 minutes and watched the waiter take orders of several other tables. He never said anything to us until we gathered our belongings to leave. We left and shortly came back in to share our disappointment. The waiter would not even hear our concerns and just beckoned for us to return to our tables. The waiter is always a little curt, but this even was deblorable. All we got was water, crackers, and ignored. Avoid if you want food...

My very first experience with Indian food in the Huntsville area was from Sitar. A dear friend bought my family dinner from here the night I moved into the area in 2020. I had been hooked ever since and frequented the restaurant multiple times since then. Unfortunately, this evening I experienced treatment that made me not want to ever return. After barely being greeted and seating ourselves, my friend and I waited more than 20 minutes for the attendant to even attempt to take our orders. She and I both made eye contact with him at various points, hoping to get his attention and signal we were ready to order. He took the orders of two separate groups that came in AFTER us after tending to miscellaneous tasks that arose in that time. It s only after gathering our items to leave that he realized we d been neglected and told us to wait; that he d get our order. I left heartbroken as I d never received such poor treatment in my history as a patron.

This was a treat. The food was great. Friendly staff. Dont be like me and sit at the table waiting for a menu get up and get some food. And dont forget to ask about drinks. The best Indian food I have had maybe ever. The matar aloo was so good!! The roti was nice and crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. I cannot wait to go back. Vegetarian options: There are many vegetarian options.

I don t review much, unless it s amazing or totally disappointing. Well, this place falls in the totally disappointing category. The food is NO way near authentic or close to the actual flavor profile. I ordered the House special dinner combination (Thali). The Lamb Rogan Josh tasted vinegary and tart. Lamb itself was hard and chewy ( not melt in you mouth like actual Rogan Josh). Veg Korma included with it was nothing but peas and carrots in a cream sauce. The so called naan bread was soggy and rubbery. Finally, tried the dessert.. Gulab Jamun would say WORST I have ever had . fried hard balls of dough floating in sugar syrup. (Should be soft and soaked full of the syrup) It might just have been a off night for them perhaps but if you want ANYTHING remotely close to being authentic and flavored as real Indian food, I would try ANY another place. Bawarchi in Birmingham is 100 times better!

We were 3 ladies and they served us family style and was great for sharing and tasting multiple dishes. Parking: The parking is mostly behind the building but there was plenty of spots.

I hate this place so much the Hindi server we had was so rude we came to the shop at around 5:30 and we order our food soon as we came and it took them 1 hour and 43 min to bring are food and when we got our food try to order more they said they close everything when they where taking other people order that is not professional at all .

Customer Service at this restaurant is horrible. While waiting for my order as I sat patiently; a group of people walked through the door and this Worker told me to GET UP!!!! and Move, so this group of people could sit down in the most disrespectful way. Then he proceeded to the point where I needed to sit several times. Although the food is amazing I will never return to this place due to the extremely bad customer service !!!! Note: there were plenty of empty tables for the group to sit at.

It s a buffet style restaurant. Nothing for choices of drinks except tap water that sits in the middle of the room and cheap wine that s expensive. The buffet is $15 and change for one person and it s not very good food.

I know there are other restaurants that have similar cuisine, but I m probably not going to go to them. Sitar has amazing food and it s at a fair price. Ok, so the atmosphere is a little iffy. This isn t a restaurant on Bridge Street or downtown. But the food is amazing. I was seriously smiling and making mmmmmm sounds throughout the meal. My wife and I tend to order three (sometime 4) dishes cause one meal isn t enough and we will end up wanting it again the next day. Also, awesome service. As we were loading our future lunch into the to-go boxes our server brought us another plate of rice to go with it. We had planned to order some to take home with us, but he was so friendly and committed to customer service. Get the Mushroom Matar. Oh and always order naan so you can get every bit of sauce.

The buffet is always fresh and the consistency is always spot on. The lentil soup is my favorite item.

This was our first time eating at Sitar in Huntsville. We ordered chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. Both meals were very bland, consistency was off, and even the naan was disappointing - tasted as if it had been sitting out for a while. Unfortunately, we wasted $40+ and we didnt even want to finish the meals. I usually go to one of the other two Indian restaurants and thought to give this one a try as well... I will not be back.

Service was great and attentive. I ordered the special combo and the chicken soup. The chicken soup was excellent, the lentil soup was good, the tandoori chicken was excellent, naan was excellent, vegetable korma was great and lamb rogan josh was good but a bit sweet (it s supposed to be). For a Pakistani palate, the dishes were a bit mild and sweet. Free papadam and chutney at start were a nice touch. Like other Indian restaurants in the area, each curry is served with rice. Substitution with Naan is not allowed. This is frustrating. One downside is that the ambiance is lacking, with the interior looking dated. Note to Muslim diners: Owners have confirmed that the meat served is Halal. Alcohol is served. Hindu gods are on display.

I got the vegetarian thali and it was amazing. The dishes had well-rounded flavor and were quite filling. There was a lot of food and it was fresh & hot when we picked it up. **Evidently Sitar Indian has several different locations but only one website. We didnt find out until we got to the Huntsville location to pick up our order that the phone number on the website is only for the Birmingham location.** The Google business profile should have the right number, and Im still giving 5 stars since the Huntsville location was able to get our order ready so quickly.

If you wanna go to a place to Instagram your food to get a lot of likes, then sitar is your place but just know that after you take the picture you will immediately throw their food in the trash because it taste nothing like what it looks like. Alternatively, sitar is also your place if you like to bring the food home to re-season everything, because everything taste like boiled potatoes.

This is the worst Indian restaurant in the US I had ever visited. Especially the manager is very rude towards customers. He has no courtesy for the people while eating food he ll come and ask for bill. I don t think that s a good way to treat customers. The food was not great either. Food is always good. And buffet is the best value so if youre new to Indian food theres plenty to try to find out what you like.

I am writing this review and our 10 year old son is asking for a little more of his favorites before I can even finish. Thank you for the top shelf service and experience. Theres now a THIRD website associated with this restaurant and when I called in to figure out which one Im supposed to use, they told me to just come in and order in person because it only takes 15 minutes. Was hoping they had the buffet still but no luck there. The food was good and service was OK.

Such great food, the buffet if always well stocked and clean. The food is always fresh and is great soul food.

I ate here for the first time ever last night. The food was very flavorful and delicious. It had a nice atmosphere and was not too crowded or noisy. The one thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the charging of credit card fees. I help my family run a business, and Ive never done that to my customers or ever had it done to me as a customer before. If I decide to go again, Ill have to remember to bring cash.

The wife d I love this restaurant. The food here is fantastic and they will adjust the amount of spice to your taste. I ask for money to be very spicy and they do a great job. The Chicken Patia was a new dish for us to try tonight and it was our of this world. The Vindaloo, Tandoori, Tikka, etc are all top notch. For desert, you can beat the Gula b Jamun

Went to the new restaurant Curry Modern Indian last week, enjoyed the flavors much more. I wouldn t recommend Sitar unless you just happen to live close by and don t mind the lack of flavor.

Awesome food n service

I am very disappointed with Sitar. My husband and I love this place and often visit because it s a calm and lightly traffic environment. Tonight we were dining in around 8pm and a group of guys came in and they were loud and one was looking in the kitchen. I assume they knew the owners or staff working there. Shortly after that another guy and a lady came in and he was loud as well. They sat two tables in front of us. He was loud, got up from his seat walking towards the counter staggering like he was drunk. As he came back to his seat he was still loud and the lady with him tried to tell him to quiet down and he started saying loudly This is my restaurant multiple times. As to convey to us that he can act how he wants to act in his restaurant as he was looking over at us. The whole environment made me and my husband uncomfortable and so we left without eating our food. I have a real issue with this because if he was indeed the owner he was a great embarrassment to his establishment. This is no way to Conduct yourself rather your the owner or not and there was no reinforcement from the guy at the front counter. When we told him why we were leaving, he simply said I am sorry and nothing else. We will NOT visit this place again and it hurts me to say that because we love the food but the customer service was horrible. It wasn t comfortable, we didn t feel safe and it was a very disruptive environment. Customer service is key for any establishment that is serving the public. Sitar staff and owner we are greatly disappointed. TO the person reading this, apparently at night anything goes in sitar. I would advise you to be cautious.

This is the first time me and my Daughter have tried Indian food and it was amazing. My Daughter had the Lamb Mango and I had the Goat Biryani. We also had the Tandoori appetizer. It was so delicious.

The curry served on buffet is lacking a normal consistency of curry and its too mild, also the naans are not as fresh as they could be, but otherwise great place great food. (In my opinion the food is just way better quality when you order a meal and dont eat from the buffet.

This place is so nice, I loved the Indian tea And the food is so goood.

Quality problems

Ordered from menu. Items well prepared, tasty, and spicy...just the way I like it. Note: buffet only available on weekends, but Im going with menu items moving forward.

My family ordered around $200 worth of food to be delivered however once the food arrived we realized the boxes were not marked with what they were, which is difficult to sort through for people with certain food sensitivities and intolerances. Both the spinach paneer and chicken tikka masala were flavorless and the naan was burned, which was quite disappointing given the price point and the amount of food with each individual order.

Enjoyed the buffet . The corn rice , chicken wings the bread is nice too
