255 Pratt Ave NE, Huntsville, AL 35801, United States
Venerable family-run eatery with craft beer on tap serving up pizza, calzones, salads & subs.
This place never disappoints! Best food( the chef throws down on some chicken wings and everything else), coziest atmosphere, coldest beer glasses! The service is wonderful and everyone makes you feel welcomed and at home. You can’t help but feel better when you’ve got a pitcher and some good food at Big Ed’s. We love Big Ed’s!!
My 10 yr old daughter and I enjoyed a Sunday lunch. This was our first time at Big Ed's. The mozzarella cheese sticks are VERY good. We had a 12" pizza and 10 Buffalo wings. Both were GOOD. I'm wanting to return to try their sandwiches menu, primarily the Italian sub. The atmosphere is nice, the restaurant is very clean, the patio is nice. The staff is very attentive. Natalie was great. With assistance from the blonde waitress as well. I believe her name started with a T, I think! Both were very nice, attentive and welcoming. My daughter and I are looking forward to going back.
Early lunch on a Wednesday. Not crowded at all. Great atmosphere. Calazone was delicious. Service was good. I will eat here again when back in Huntsville.
I took my daughters to Big Ed's pizza on Saturday. I've driven by and always seen the interestingly shaped building but never visited. This place is popular with the locals -- I called to order pickup one tike and was quoted 35+ minutes until pizza could be ready so I passed, but this time it was not as busy. I was prompt seated and had my drink order taken quickly. They had several college football games playing and a large selection of pizzas and beers. You're going to pay $20 for a 16" cheese pizza (additional.toppings $2.25) but that's about on par with other local pizzeria. Their beer prices are pretty cheap if you get a 60 pitcher ($14 for michelobe ultra) and you can buy a souvenir pint glass for $3, which I feel was a great deal. The room has a large amount of natural light and seemed bright and open, and outdoor seating was available. Our pizza came out quickly and had very nice cheese pull, the crust was perfectly done and thin and toppings came to the very edge of the crust: perfect. Taste was pretty good. The staff was very polite and friendly and brought my kids coloring pages and crayons and were on the ball for drink refills. Overall a great local place, definitely give them a shot and as Big Ed says: "Eat and Drink Local!"
Big Ed's was a pure delight to spend some time at and order up a great pizza! Beer selection was great! Staff was extremely friendly, even ended up talking with the cook that day since it wasn't super busy at that moment! Oh and get the Fried Pepperoni with HotGarlic/Ranch mixed together, you won't regret it!
Everything was good with no complaints. The waitress was pleasant and provided insight on food selections. However, nothing stood out to say that we would continue to come. We will give it another try next time we are back in the area.
From the atmosphere and amazing natural lighting to the history of Big Ed’s comes an amazing affordable pizza restaurant with food so good and so cheap you’ll wonder why you ever went to a fast food place ever! I’m telling you when I saw 10 beignets in our plate with syrup for only $5 my jaw dropped to the ground. I’m tell you guys if you want to go out but don’t have the wallet to fund for something outrageously high end then come by and get some good pizza and desert here !
We are regulars at the Oak Ridge, TN, location. The pizza there is probably our favorite anywhere. The pizza is different between the two locations. Looks similar but crust is different. The dough dippers and the beignets were outstanding. Cool space and good location. Service was good.
Awesome
This is a cozy little bar and pizzeria. Theyre inventive, friendly, and welcoming, mostly. Wheelchair accessibility: They have a wheelchair ramp.
We got the bacon cheeseburger pizza Loaded with topping and really tasty. Food
Place looked nice and cozy, person who took the call was wonderful, food-just a pepperoni pizza- was very mediocre bordering on bad. Not saying itd be like this across the board-maybe it just happened to be this way just the once and I was unlucky. Pepperoni was incredibly thin but still tasty enough, crust was crunchy but had absolutely no give, and the sauce was almost liquid in that I could just about drink it out of the very firm layer of cheese on top of it, which I also did not like. All in all, a very meh pizza but for the price it just didnt seem worth it. Reviews an honest 2.5 out of 5, would be a full 3 if this type of pizza werent about 30 dollars for two of the smallest sizes they had available.
Tastes like frozen pizza with slow service.
Stopped in here for a pizza. It was good, they had TVs with sports playing and it wasnt too loud. Pizza took about 45 minutes to make. We had a salad as well and it was tasty. We will return in the future. Thanks.
Ive been going to Big Eds Pizza since the early 70s, and its always been the best Pizza. Its like visiting family and friends every time.
Best pizza, great service and atmosphere!
Ive been coming to this establishment for 13 years. My past four visits were awful! Ive ordered food, given a time come back and its something went wrong with my food the past four times Ive placed a order!! How the hell is there s hole in my pizza! Ive seen yall give my pizza to another customer and tell me mine will have to be recooked!! WTH? Four times this has happened! Ive been a loyal customer for years, but I will not be returning after today! To the owners, your food is wonderful but
$70! For 2 pizzas and a salad!! I kind of expected one of the pizzas to jump up and start dancing. Seriously way too expensive for pizza. It was ok, but no
Big Ed s is a Huntsville gem! Went with some friends last night and it s 2 thumbs up from all of us! Great pizza, great wings, and the fried pepperoni pint is a must! We had a Big 8 pizza, a calzone, and tried some wings. What really set this place apart was the awesome service. The owner, Darrel, came and chatted with us. You can tell he is passionate about carrying on his dad s legacy, who started the restaurant in 1961. His passion for such shines through his commitment to excellent service, and excellent pizza! Eat local! Eat at Big Eds!
Love this place!! Even great salads! Such a sweet staff.
I love fresh prepared food. I tried their deluxe pizza and I will be going back.
The best pizza
Food is always good...
Big Ed s is awesome!! The food was great! The owner was so nice!! I will definitely be visiting anytime I am in the area!
We really enjoyed our lunch at Big Eds. Were regular visitors to Huntsville, and had seen this place many times before but hadnt tried it until this trip. Food was great! My calzone was delicious, although I really wanted to see what it wouldve been like with the deep fried pepperoni inside! Maybe next year? Our server was great, and the food was awesome. We will be back!
First time to stop by. Decided to try since been around since 1961. I was not disappointed! Staff was super kind, pizza was amazing and the fried pepperonis were a perfect app. Highly recommend
Called at 9:30PM to place an order and they told me they were closed already. I asked them why it s shows 10PM as the closing time and they said that s because 10PM is their normal closing time. They stated that they decided to close early and hung up. Ridiculous how all these food places just close whenever they don t feel like working anymore. That use to be non existent whereas years post covid, every place does it now. The pool of workers get lazier every year.
Great pizza place!!!
Best pizza in Huntsville! I do add a little fennel seed to mine to get it to taste like Chicago pizza
This place is awesome. Pizza was great. I had the BBQ chicken pizza.
Pepperoni Pint is fantastic! They make the best pizza in town.
Pleasant overall experience. The pizza was great, and the staff was very personable and kind.
Best Calzones in HSV. Pizza is great and unique.
Kid-friendliness: Pizza Food
Loved the pizza, the atmosphere, the prices, the staff and to top it off, they sell beignets! Will be back
I really enjoy the appetizers, the pizza was hot but very uneven with toppings. Good place all around only had issues once or twice.
Had the Meats it was great. Service was excellent. Good price
Great pizza. The taco pizza and wings were on point
Yum!!! Back in the day I had a favorite restaurant that made taco pizza so when I saw it on the menu here I HAD to get it!! It wasn t exactly how I love it but still super good! We got some mozzarella sticks everyone loved them. The kids loved their pizzas. The service was fine. Nothing really stood out in an extra good or bad way.
I have eaten and attempted to eat here 3 times now. 1st time in store I eat a salad an get a pizza togo. I believe the staff forgot my pizza and it was rushed out b/c it was still dough in parts. 2nd time everything went great food 3/10. 3rd time I ordered toga over the phone. I walked I m they helped seat the family behind me, cool np. I stand at the bar for 15 minutes and watch 3 groups after me get get acknowledged and helped. I would say its the same price and far less stressful to just order delivery.
This place was a great find! The staff was above and beyond amazing in service and friendliness. The pizza was delicious and the fried mushrooms are a must try!
Always great food. The waitress was kind of rude and apparently you cant have a group larger than 8 sit together and have to be separated even when plenty of tables were available in the main room. I know they have their reasons. But we would have liked to sit together and logically, it would not have blocked anyone working or eating there. The guy who helped serve the food was great and friendly. The mushrooms were good, cheese sticks were good and the pizza was was awesome as always. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp and parking right next to it.
Great time, really home town feel, awesome food . Good peices, cold beer. Kenn Food
Very awesome people, atmosphere and great food! Highly recommend! I will be back!
Love this local pizza joint. Great lunch specials and awesome craft beer selection!
Best pizza in town, good selection of craft beer too.
Just friendly folks
Came to Big Eds during mid afternoon, only 3 other tables occupied. Was told by an employee to pick any table. Waited 15 minutes with no service to our table, no drinks or taking our order. Every other table got served or food brought out. Decided to leave and 4 employees were just rolling silverware at a table by the door. I like the pizza but todays service was nonexistent.
Delicious pizza and top notch service.
Pizza is good but one of their staff was so rude, it s caused me to leave a review and ask that my husband not order from Big Eds anymore. It can be difficult to see customers as people, and vice versa, when you re in a rush and that s okay. Rudeness for the sake of your own circumstances while on shift should never flow over to the customers paying good money to eat at your restaurant. Not okay. Be kind.
The only reason I gave three stars instead of five in the Service category is because my workers and I never saw our waiter again after we placed our order until it was time to get our bill. The man that was cleaning tables, the waitress that was working her assigned tables and the man that brings out the pizzas tended to us more than our waiter. Even the table next to us put in their drink order with the same waiter and never got their drinks until one of the other workers came by and noticed that they have been sitting there a while with nothing on their table. I have been eating Big Eds pizza since before they moved to the current location and never had any issues besides this most recent visit. This is NOT going to make me stop coming or bring my crew there again after a long day because the taste of the food is still AMAZING!
Favorite pizza place, love you guys.
When you re half-starved as you clock out in Rocket City, what s better than picking up a good pepperoni pizza and some locally brewed beers to end the day? Nothing, in our opinion, and Big Ed s delivers. This pizza joint has been around for more than 60 years. We sat near the windows, enjoying the natural light before the days got shorter and shorter. The place was busy but not overcrowded you can definitely have a pleasant conversation with your friends or even a romantic date without needing to shout to be heard. Eating at Big Ed s Pizza We didn t have to wait long before a member of the waitstaff approached, taking our drink and appetizer orders. I recommend a classic pepperoni or sausage, but really, you can t go wrong with any of the pizza options on their menu. We started with the fried mushrooms, which are such a treat. Rich, earthy mushrooms with a golden-brown crust keep the hanger pangs away while you wait for your made-to-order pizza and trust me, it is worth the wait. Our mushrooms arrived piping hot and crunchy on the outside, and their homemade dipping sauce brings a tangy flavor you just might double-dip for. Then, the main course. We ordered two pizzas: a classic pepperoni and their barbecue chicken pizza a house special and a classic dish. We wanted to get the full scope of the place, how they handle the old standards everyone loves, and what fresh new flavors they bring to the table. First, the specialty barbecue pizza. This is a much sweeter pizza than usual, with its barbecue sauce base. This adds that sweet, savory warmth you don t get with a traditional marinara base. For those who prefer their savory without the sugar, this may not be the pizza for you, but if you like a little barbecue sauce on your slice, check this one out. The red onion balances the sweetness with its sharp, almost spicy presence, though they blend pleasantly with the rest of the flavors as they are cooked into the pie. When getting a pizza with chicken, you often risk getting a slice with dry chunks of meat that are better picked off than protein. Not so at Big Ed s each bite of chicken was still tender and juicy, bringing all these flavors together between stretchy, melted cheese and a fluffy crust that almost steals the show (at least, it does for this pizza lover, who never skips the crust). Their house-made marina base is everything you could want in a quality pizza sauce. Well-seasoned and made with fresh ingredients, these components are the perfect base for a quality pepperoni pizza. Take your time savoring the texture range of their crust, the complex flavors of the sauce, and of course the classic pepperoni. While their specialty pizzas pack a punch, their simpler pizzas give you a chance to slow down and savor the complexity. Big Ed s has been serving Huntsville since 1961, and we hope they have more decades ahead to serve our city. While we re still working through their many menu options, we haven t found a single slice or sandwich that didn t delight the whole table. Take a moment to enjoy this little slice of Huntsville history and walk away with a full belly (and, likely, a box of pizza to take home).
Our first time here and we loved the fried mushrooms, dough dippers and our deluxe pizza. The marinara and the crust was yummy and the topping were top notch quality. Our appetizers were quick but the pizza took a while - you can t rush excellence. We will be back. Thanks for a yummy dinner!
Great local pizza place.
Parking: The night I went, I think I got one of the last three spots. If they re busy, it may be difficult to find a parking spot. Food
Ive only had their cheese sticks and pizza, but 10/10 on both!
Staff was really nice and loved the wings. Glad our waitress recommended to order them a little crispy.
I visited this location multiple times, each time was great. The employees were nice and the food was delicious. They are also conveniently open til 10pm weekdays while most other local establishments close at 9pm, this was a huge plus to me as I often work late. Prices are medium for a pizza place, more expensive than a standard chain but also way more delicious. Inside is a mix of retro diner and sports bar. 10/10 would go again.
Great beer!
First time eating here and the pizza was Fantastic!! We were not disappointed at all!! Highly recommend you trying this place! The building is just great ...like stepping back in time a little the way it is built and the people were so friendly!
Great food and very friendly staff
Pizza was pretty good. It was nice to get a beer while we waited for our pizza. Nice to check out a local place thats been around for so long
Food is great but customer service is even better!
Love Big Eds Pizza
Best pizza in the state hands down.
Big Eds is the best pizza Ive had in Huntsville. Cool building, really nice people running the place.
Some of the Pizza Ive had in HSV so far
Fun and upbeat family pizza joint with excellent service and even better pizza. Both the spicy Chicken and Deluxe pizzas were incredible and I cannot recommend the dough dippers enough
Enjoyed the food
Very Awesome Local Beer selection on tap; Fantastic Food And Great service! I Highly recommend Big Eds if you want Great Pizza among other homemade selections in a Friendly Atmosphere!
The best pizza in town.
Before we visited today and I can honestly say, I had written this place off based on service alone. However, todays visit was the best weve had since before COVID.
Best Pizza in town!
One of my happy places in town!
Been a while since I had been there alot when I was a kid , but it was great to get a large pie and it have a good helping of toppings and super friendly people
Great mozzarella sticks!!
The best pizza in town!
OMG, this is a nugget. Great food and service. My new go to spot.
Good food and good service. Do yourself a favor and get the beignets!
First visit here and enjoyed it! The mozzarella sticks were my absolute favorite! The staff was great too! Well be back
Calzones were excellent!
Pizza was good.
Food is ok, not worth the wait though and you re luck to get your food before the people who ordered after you.
I panicked when I saw Big Ed s pizza closed, was over the moon when I saw they were just moving. The pizza is so good! Everything they have is awesome, the craft beer is great too. Highly recommend Big Ed s pizza!!!!!!
First time trying Big Eds. While the pizza isnt bad its nothing special. A frozen tombstone is just as good for half the price. Service was subpar. We waited quite a while for anyone to even acknowledge we were alive. I would give them another chance and the family seemed to like it, it just wasnt for me. The building is unique and is a cool place to eat. My oldest got the club sandwich instead of pizza. It was quite good. They may have something with a sandwich shop, but the pizza just isnt it.
Great job.
Pizza is always good. Made to order...about 45 minutes. Never any negative issues. I have been several times in the past. Fair / affordable prices.
I love big Ed s or I did. I called for a salad, and the girl was rather dry, and it seemed like I was inconveniencing her by calling to place an order. She said I Could not add to the salad, but I could add things that usually go on the salad like green peppers, Which one was it? Can I add it or can I not? If that s the case, why even build your own pizza, let people know that you are forced to eat you made you exactly how you re supposed to have it.
I love this place because it gives me the same kind of feeling as I had in the 90s going to sit down pizza restaurants growing up. Good pizza and extremely good service.
Came by at 1015 and they close at 11. They locked the door and wouldnt serve me. I wont be back and Ive been coming for 10 years.
I have taken a large deluxe to a group of friends several times. The pizza is gone in less than five minutes. Great pizza
This place is amazing! The pizza is top notch, the service is friendly and speedy, and the building itself is neat.
Didnt get to eat. Told our group they only had two servers so they wouldnt even let us sit . So we went to Sam and Gregs. Not sure which place was worse. I guess I at least spent a whole lot less a big Eds
Big Eds new location is very nice. There is both inside and outside seating. We got there at rush hour and had to wait our turn to order but the wait was worth it. The pizza may not be exactly the same as from the original location however the crunchy crust and well portioned sauce were delicious!
OMG DELICIOUS!! Parking: Circular Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Gr8 piZZa
They will take your order after they take selfies
They make a solid old school style pizza. Im sure to go here whenever Im in Huntsville. Theyve been around for a long time for a reason.
I ordered my pizza at 11 there was only two tables in the restaurant. I ordered a drink while waiting on my pizza to be cooked at 11:25 the server comes up to me and says its going to be another 15-20 minutes because the cook had just got there. The server asked if I wanted to wait and I said no I have to get back to work I only have 45 minutes and 15 is driving time so I didnt even get my pizza or get to taste it to see if it was still good as I remembered it used to be very disappointed this trip
Visited Huntsville for the first time, and decided to try Big Eds. The Italian Pie. Such a simple idea, absolutely perfectly executed. I know Ill be visiting the area in the future and I plan to make Big Eds Pizza a stop on every trip. Well done guys!
The best pizza. This place was recommended to me. And, I recommend Big Eds Pizza to anyone visiting Huntsville, Alabama.
My experience here has been very hit and miss. Recently however, it has been very good. Calzones, Pizza, Cheese Sticks were all excellent. We had great customer service and all around good experience. Give them a try.
The pizza was ok but not the best I have ever had. I was very hopeful given the longevity of the restaurant. The fried cheese sticks and beignets were most outstanding. I would go back just for those two items.
Great pizza, great service, and great company!
Always great food here! Best pizza in Huntsville! Thanks Dallas for wonderful service! You are awesome! See ya soon
love this place! family friendly
Really good pizza at refreshingly reasonable prices!
Great place run by a very friendly family, the pizzas and calzones are delicious, I love the place, I recommend it.
Good
The pizza was great and their Italian Sub was awesome. Perfect Sunday dinner, I will be back.
I typically try not to leave one star reviews, unless they earned it . They earned it.
Always great food and customer service. Awesome building and atmosphere.
Is average pizza and the staff is very rude they come off racist. Try to overcharge me for the meal as well. They are very shady.
Our experience at Big Ed s was amazing. Our server name was AMY, please make sure you ask for her. She was very helpful, kind, polite, also kept an beautiful smile. Everyone that was working was actually helpful. Even the cooks came out and smiled once an a while. The pizza Amy recommended was the TACO SALAD PIZZA. Listen UP. That pizza literally had our minds BLOWN. Who would ve known putting taco salad recipes, on an pizza would be a HUGE HIT. Big Ed s . Thanks , AMY !!! We ll be back.. P.S. PLEASE TRY THE BEIGNETS .
Pizza was a little bland needs more flavor
Great local place and best pizza in Huntsville. Try the beignets!
Amazing environment. People made great conversation and were helpful in picking from a wide variety. A lot of great selections on the menu and overall great tasting. Mozzarella sticks were to die for
Leaving in area for over 35 years and tried this Pizza place for the first time. Food was delicious and plentyful. Vegetarian options: Vegie delight pizza, white pizza, salad and appetizers
Best place in North AL. Grew up in huntsville and recently relocated after 30 yrs away. Big EdS food and warm atmosphere have remained consistently superior to their competitors all of my life. (Special thanks to Mary) Thanks, Yall Great to be back home.
Our very first visit. Ordered 2 pizzas and an Italian salad. Got the big 8 eith no black olives and A white pizza for my daughter. Salad was awesome, the crispy pepperoni makes it. My pizza was good, but missing the green olives too. No biggie, I figured they misread the request. After a while, I notice my daughters pizza has more stuff than I pictured. She had a hawaiian and as she loves them, assumed thats what I got her. I had contemplated it and had to check my receipt to see what i actually ordered. I was going to give them a call to warn them they would need to make another hawaiian when they called me! Apologizing preemptively. I havent had that happen in ages. Since it was my first visit and I just knew I ordered a pizza with lots of toppings and was eating one with lots, I didnt know mine was also wrong. We ate and enjoyed them. They offered to credit the meal as it was completely wrong and as a result, their amazing service has made them my go to pizza joint now.
They were short staffed but very hard-working.
Best Pizza in town! hands down!
Man that was some good pizza. Really liked the pepperoni spring rolls
Great pizza,great workstaff,and had a great time.
Ate here on Saturday. The food was great, and the staff was very friendly! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Good food. Very nice staff!
Server Dalis is an asset to your restaurant, always pleasant, cheerful, and in a good mood. The food was excellent today as always. Thanks!
Pizza was GREAT! My draft beer was excellent . I love the place. Cool building. A little tight on the inside.
Great selection of beers. Pizza was good
Definitely recommend checking Big Ed s out! The food is tasty and it s a cool little place to go eat.
If you havent gotten a pizza from Big Eds whats wrong with you best place to get pizza
Some of the best pizzas in North Alabama.
They are the best mom and pop restaurant in town!
Im just in town for the week, but I had to stop and check this place out. It is delicious. Great wings, and excellent pizza. Nice firm crust, great flavor, and an abundance of toppings. I will make it a point to eat here every time Im in town.
This place is a Huntsville Institution! You must visit Bog Eds. Ive been a patron for over 25 years!
They have the best pizza in town. Great service and atmosphere. Love the mozzarella sticks, actually everything is good,!!
Som of the absolute best pizza in the US!!!
You cant beat this pizza anywhere
Really good pizza and a fun atmosphere. The mozzarella sticks are the best.
Best pizza in Huntsville!!
The waitress was very rude, and they sat hot pizza in front of a 2yr old
This place is great!
Very friendly staff. Natalie was awesome. Took my sense of humor and gave it back. Pizza was good. Crust made the pizza.
A Huntsville tradition. The pizza taste like it did 30 years ago. The service is fantastic Highly recommend Food : 5/5
Best pizza and homemade cheese sticks in town!
Great pizza!
Great little pizza place, the pizza was amazing, the garlic cheesy toast and wings were too. The building is so unique and the decor is very eclectic. They have a wide variety of crafts beers, one tap, in bottles and can if you like. The wait staff was very friendly and took very good care of us, we never had a empty glass that she wasnt there want to refill it. They were very informative about other dishes, everytime something new came from the kitchen we had to know what that was because it looked as amazing as the last dish out. This will be our go to pizza stop in Huntsville, hands down the best we have had while in town! Make sure that you add this to your want to go list on Google!
The crust of the supreme pizza is just meh. Ive had much better on the West coast
A must try if youre in Huntsville! Such a neat looking building, too. Parking: Decent amount of parking, but on Friday and Saturday nights, youll probably have to park next door. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly.
Weve been to Big Eds several times now, and have not been disappointed. The mozzarella sticks, garlic dough balls, and pizza check all the boxes. Plus, they have a great local beer selection (that our waitress was very knowledgeable about, and made excellent recommendations). Need to try that calzone one of these trips...
The freshest pizza you can get nothings ever been frozen all fresh very tasty
