1235 Deerhurst Dr, Huntsville, ON P1H 2E8, Canada
The restaurant is inside the Deerhurst Resort. The space is very spacious with very high ceiling, great decor and paintings around the venue. Our server was really friendly and helpful. The beef carpaccio is really good, but the black salt can be really salty, use lightly. The sea beam filet is one of the best dishes of the night. The beef striploin, which I ordered med rare, came medium well, and the sauce is quite salty as well. The Muskoka S’More is pretty unique, love the combination and the marshmallow is nicely burnt to a crisp. The chocolate cake is quite dry though.
The prices at this place make you think you’ll be in a nice environment. When we arrived the hostess tried to sit us on the edge of the busy hotel main hallway. Then rolled her eyes when we asked to sit elsewhere. Service was atrocious, slow, and unfriendly. The food that my 3 dinner partners had all looked and tasted great. I had the $28 burger, and when it came out looked like a Swiss Chalet children’s menu burger that had sat under a heat lamp for 1/2 hour. Drove into town the 2nd night we were here to pick up takeout just to avoid having to go here again. With one drink each, dinner was $250 for four people.
Good spot while visiting the resort. The food hits the spot. Got the flat bread and a cocktail. The staff was very attentive and kind. Saturday evenings they have live music which is a nice touch. The restaurant does get very busy during standard lunch and dinner hours on the weekend.
Stayed at the resort and had the fish and chips on the first night here. It was delicious. Definitely will try something different next time I stay. Thank you guys.
We stayed at Deerhurst for our mini-honeymoon recently. We decided one night to go to one of their restaurants for dinner, more of a matter of convenience than anything else…we were surprised as to how nice of an evening we had. Our server Ricardo was amazing and he should be recognized for navigating us through an amazing dinner. We began with the Pork Belly and Burrata, and The Bavarian Pretzel Antipasto…both were unique in a perfect way. For the mains we had the Chicken Ballotine Caprese for the lady, and I had the Maple Roasted Wild Boar Tenderloin. The chicken was a great earthy delight and the boar was cooked exactly as I asked. Ricardo recommended a perfect Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc that paired perfectly with the meal. For dessert we shared a the Deerhurst S’mores and a couple coffees. My wife said it was one of the best cappuccinos she has ever had. A great evening, thank you.
Live music and ok food. The octapus salad was an amazing combination of flavours. Unfortunately they did not get pur stakes right. Our server, Ruben, did an excellent job and also rectifed the situation. The view is mediocre. (The buffet has a nicer view ).
Amazing experience!!! Our server Sabrina was fantastic....couldn't ask for better service. The salmon there was so incredibly tasty and well cooked. I would definitely go back!!!
Spouse and I have been to Compass a few times. Staff is always friendly and food always consistently on point. Had our anniversary last night and it was again very good. We don’t find the prices high when considering the quality and presentation of our meals is nothing short of 5 stars. A very special thank you to chef and staff for a wonderful complimentary dessert. Highly recommend!
Had an absolutely wonderful meal with my husband here. Our server was amazing, prompt and excellent customer servi e. The fish and chips and wings were fantastic and our dessert taco was just delicious. Would definitely recommend.
Ruben was very helpful and welcoming, food was more than great, really enjoyed my rib eye steak. thanks for the great experience!
Stayed at the resort and our first night we had dinner a half an hour before they closed. As a self proclaimed fish and chips connoisseur, I wasnt a fan of the fries but the fish was good and the coleslaw. Big portions too. Service was excellent. They didnt rush us out or pressure us since they were closing. Our server was exceptional. The food was a ok for me and my spouse loved his wagyu burger.
Guys, on Christmas Day, while we just sit down, the manager wants our family to pay the bill before we eat. How rude is that? We have been to lots of restaurants, never encountered anything like this. The other staffs are nice.
Many thanks to Marta, the hostess, the mixologist making the holiday cocktails, and the live musicians, as well as especially the Chefs and all people behind the scenes, for absolutely delicious appetizers, soups, salads, entrees & deserts tonight, it was the perfect experience for our family. It looked like lots of families were having a great night, excellent service and much appreciated! Merry Christmas
The portions were really good, both times we visited we thought the portions looked tiny but by the time we finished, we were stuffed! First visit: We ordered potato chowder (okay, not worth $14 though), Argentine shrimp pasta (LOVE IT, 100% worth every cent of the $31 dish, the shrimp wasnt fishy and was full of meat, the pasta was delicious), and fish and chips (really nice in general, the truffle fries were awesome). The atmosphere is okay, with really nice views if you are in the right spot. Here and there we heard kids running around and screaming (understandable but still slightly annoying) and somehow they played gangnam style in the middle of the meal XD (thought that was funny). I would give it a 5 if it wasnt for the kids screaming, thats all. The service in general is okay, but our meal took a really long time and our server didnt check up on us (but checked up on everyone else, and mind you, it wasnt really busy or anything). Eventually, another server came to pop in to say hello. However, the service is still within expected range, as the food was still brought up warm and neatly placed. Second visit: I definitely had different thoughts from the first visit. We were greeted with a friendly server (with a blonde ponytail, sorry forgot to ask for name) and assigned to a table. Then, we looked at menus. We looked at our orders, and our assigned server, Reuben (unsure how to spell, sorry) was really busy with at least 2 tables, but considering this is a middle-class restaurant, I expected to be checked up on maybe in around 5 mins to take our order. Unfortunately, that was not what happened. We waited and waited, and nobody bothered to take a look at us (at the point our group was just looking bored and doing nothing), until we couldnt stand it anymore and flagged a server down. 3-5 mins later our server came down to take our order after being requested from another server we flagged down. We then waited almost an hour for our dishes to get ready (3 dishes) and the food itself is pretty good. Then nobody checked in on us for the next 40 min-ish and we had to flag another server down to ask for dessert (we didnt order it initially), then waited another 3 min for our server to take our order, THEN we waited almost half an hour for 1 carrot cake (14 dollars!). In general, I wasnt too pleased with the service in general (Not completely servers fault, they need more staff, this isnt a cheap restaurant, they need more staff). Vegetarian options: The Impossible Burger is good (and the Beyond Meat is really realistic). As non-vegetarians, we decided to give it a try, and its pretty decent.
service was soooo slow, waited so long just to place an order. we didnt get water until 10-15 minutes after being seated. the place wasn t busy either. food is extremely expensive too.
Fantastic casual place to dine. The food and waiter were amazing! Definitely will be back.
Waiter should remove the menus from the table after orders are taken. We had to ask for utensils and napkins after our meal came. Gluten-free arugula salad was okay but definitely not worth $20! Very overpriced. Water was not refilled. Waiter could be more attentive. Deerhurst maple & bacon glazed wings were delicious. Menu should have more gluten-free and vegan options. Very limited choices.
I would not recommend this restaurant for anyone who has food allergies like celiac or vegan. There were not many options and there was confusion. I ordered gluten free wings as they were indicated as a GF on the menu which usually means the whole menu item is gluten free and safe to eat. I ordered some gluten free wings and they showed up looking not gluten free so it turns out they weren t cooked in the right fryer. Food was overpriced. I felt like our waiter was avoiding us after this incident but he did apologize.
Delicious food items and good portion is served.
Terrible food, burgers came burnt as black as a hockey puck. We tried their buffet at Eclipse the night before and was average at best. For some reason we expected the kitchen to try harder if we order A la Carte, but they did even worse. We tried to avoid booking something in town and driving, but it was a big mistake. Food is definitely not a strength at Deerhurst resort.
Temara was my server tonight and she gave us amazing service
Service was great, food was very good. Kids had pizza and caeser salads. Salads were a bit dry lacking dressing. My wife had a steak, which she loved and I had the chicken karaage, which was good just think a ponzu or gyoza sauce would have been better doing sauce than just soya sauce. I also had the chicken skewers in the curried coconut sauce with pasta... That was amazing! I find the atmosphere a little underwhelming but over all it was a pleasant experience Kid-friendliness: Same kids menu as Maple Pub, but full of crowd pleasers and includes dessert
Disgusting food. We were a group of 4 and really regret coming here. The food is not fresh, burgers tastes obviously store bought / frozen. Fries were very dry. Just a very unpleasant experience.
We had a great dinner. I had the octopus salad and tuna saku. Both were excellent, and Felix took good care of us.
I recently dined at the Compass Restaurant in Deerhurst Resort, and I had a fantastic meal. I highly recommend it. Their Chicken Pizza, Pork Chop, and Chicken Karaage were all delicious. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was top-notch. A great place for a memorable dining experience!
We were a bit confused about take out options and such, and both the young lady at the host booth, and person on the phone were very kind and helpful. Food was ready quite quickly, and was very good. We got the olive starter, burger, wings, and fish kids meal. We also got the apple and the chocolate molton desert. Even though the food taken back to our room, everything tasted fresh and delicious. Would recommend and would order again. Thank you!
Had dinner this evening at the compass Grill & lounge at Deerhurst Resort. Food was amazing and Kalista, our server and bartender was fantastic!
Klista great service very outgoing
EDIT: I love the reply - I DID share the experience with the management team prior to leaving on the phone (or at least who the staff said was management) and was hung up on. Also - I was just overcharged an incorrect evening rate. *** Terrible! Yes - the patio is nice, but the staff are unprofessional (loudly complaining about customers), the service is poor (wrong orders, mix ups, served beef instead of beyond beef for a strict vegetarian - and yes, this was specified clearly) the food is overpriced and gas station lunch counter quality.
Decent food, but extremely overpriced. Service was ok
Great service, atmosphere and food.
Delicious food in Deerhurst!
Very impressed with the food quality.
This restaurant is way too expensive and food was mediocre. Extremely slow service. Only item we really enjoyed were the pan fried risotto cakes. We ordered the curried biryani. Description was unusual but we thought we would give it a try. Seriously disappointed... This is NOT biryani. We are south Asian and well acquainted with biryani. Biryani is a layered rice dish... Rice, meat, rice... And cooked together so the rice absorbs the flavours. It is all mixed together before serving. What you serve is a veg curry and jasmine rice. Btw, jasmine rice is never used in biryani. Its like calling something a steak and serving a burger. If you are going to take something from another culture, you should try to stay true to the essence of the dish. Do your research. You need to re name that dish because biryani it is not.
Service was extremely slow, even when there were hardly any other diners. It took forever to get our waitresses attention, we had to flag down a waiter who was waiting on a completely different section; multiple times. The lamb was expensive and tasteless, although the presentation was nice.
Great apps
The food is pretty decent here enjoyed our meal tonight
Good different city from ottawa I wood buy a house here
A little pricey but the food and service have always been great! If you want a slightly better meal during your stay in Huntsville, it is definitely worth checking out!
Loved this place. The food was delicious and had great ambience.
Sha-yeahhhh
Great food and service. Dad who doesn t like lamb tried mine and liked it!
Good food and very pleasant, friendly service.
Good ambiance. One of the best restaurants in Huntsville. Servers are very friendly and helpful. Good Hospitality. People can enjoy the food with live music. But there is no option for advance reservations. Its a first come first serve restaurant. Food is awesome
Yummy!
Good food. Great view. Bonnie our dinner waitress was superb!
The restaurant has a nice setup and ambience, menu items seem really great and unfortunately we didnt get to try. We left angry after being ignored for 5 times. Went with 2 small children, and was brought to be seated in one of the high top bar tables. I asked for another table and they were accommodating, cleaned another table for us right away. And then our waiter, after we ask him to give us some water first, had begun to neglecting us. We had 2 hungry small children and we really just wanted to order their food first thing, but over and over again, our waiter swing by and said Ill be with you in a minute, while our kids started to get impatient and make more noise. It was embarrassing as we didnt want to disturb the other patrons. If we could have ordered kids food, one of us could have taken the kids to the outdoor dining area and distracted them a little. After kept being ignored and watching our waiter going to 4 different other tables (some were seated after us but was getting taken care of while we were being ignored), after we were told Ill be with you in a minute for the 4th time, we stood up and left. It was very unpleasant. Though it was a nice feature this restaurant is located in the resort and its convenient for us, this is our by far the WORST feeling we got from the staff. We felt neglected and unwelcomed. If we werent welcomed with small children, please dont offer kids menu and dont claim to be child friendly when everything they did were the opposite.
Great food
Great food. Too expensive.
Good food. Poor customer service. Long wait times
The warm seafood nicoise salad is fantastic!
My husband and I love eating here. Quiet atmosphere, great service and delicious food.
Dinner was excellent I wish there were more vegan options but overall very good experience!
Nice on-site restaurant at Deerhurst. Food was great and service was excellent.
