New Orleans Lunchbox Restaurant in Huntsville

So delicious!!

All I can say is etouffee is not supposed to be opaque orange and jiggle like jello over gummy rice. Also there were zero crawfish tails. Whatever crawfish they put in there were actually blended up, which I guess accounts for the orange julius color, lol. Its crazy because etouffee is possibly the fastest and easiest Cajun dish: a quick medium roux, saute the trinity in that, add some water or stock, a few cajun spices, some crawfish or shrimp, serve over rice and youre done. That might take all of 30 minutes. I hear these nice ladies come from Louisiana, too, but clearly that doesnt mean they can cook. I guess we lucked out with a mom who could. Anyway, the charmingly named New Orleans Lunchbox is a big nope for me.

Highly recommend trying the Jambalaya & Bread Pudding!

My husband stopped by to get red beans and rice about 40 minutes before they closed. I have never had a complaint about their food until today he got home about 5 pm. It was so watery hardly any rice in it. It s supposed to be red beans and rice not soup and hardly any rice. Literally I ve waited a week for our paycheck to have this for dinner because it was good the last time but this time it definitely isn t worth 15$ a container. If they were running out of rice they shouldn t have even sold it to him. If I wanted soup I would ve gone to Panera bread. Won t be back for awhile.

Melt in your mouth Brisket, whole cuts, smoked over 17 hours. Another one of those places you love to find out about. My co worker had enthused about this place for months, I finally made it out here. He was right.

I always frequent this place cause they sell the best crawfish, but lately theyve been lacking. The last time I got crawfish, it was bland, but the crawfish was still fresh. I tried it again, but this time not only was the crawfish bland, but it was over cooked or not fresh. The crawfish was very mushy and very watery and the sausage they included was extremely watery and mushy. Its a shame, I love their crawfish and sausage, but for the price I paid I dont think Ill be returning for a while.

E for effort! The gas station clerk was the sweetest; she recommended the hushpuppies. The hushpuppies were a hit, as for everything else well discuss it. The gumbo was salty. The jambalaya was dry. Sausage was the only thing good about the red beans and rice. The brisket was overcooked, even the fatty part was dry. Catfish was fried to perfection and tasted great. It would have been nice if the catfish were filets instead of strips. The shrimp seemed to be fresh, slightly salty, however the oysters had to have been out of a can or jar; very chewy. Fries were not crispy, macaroni and cheese was bland, and coleslaw was tasteless couldve used some seasoning. HUSHPUPPIES 100% WOULD RECOMMEND, appeared to have been homemade with a little corn. The staff could have been a little bit more honest. They said Everythings good on the menu! They got me, but never again! LOL Too expensive for a second chance. They do offer other menu items including sandwiches, BBQ, as well as dessert.

Excellent pork barbecue, potato salad and coleslaw! I found this place by doing a search for a muffaletta sandwich. Glad I went but they dont have muffalettas.

Great gas station seafood. Top notch catfish po boy!

I got the shrimp basket which had fries and shrimp, about $20 without drink. It was just the right amount of shrimp but enough fries to feed an army. Recommend they take away some fries and add hush puppies or another side. For the money the shrimp basket was too expensive for what you get. I will return and try some of the less expensive items. Very friendly staff!

Called to see about their butts I was treated with a 5 star Roland went out of his way to instead of waiting a day I got a most juicy one everyone was saying it was the best they have ever eaten the bread pudding was also a 5 star and I wouldnt share all my broccoli salad thanks Roland for making our card game night

You go for the food, not the atmosphere. So good. I had the Texas sliced brisket sandwich, Mac and cheese as the side. Both very good.

I order the New Orleans sampler and when I got home found that had given me red beans and rice instead. Really poor service.

This place is a hidden gem. Its run by a bunch of folks from NOLA. The main draws are authentic po boys, jambalaya, gumbo, etc... PLUS some things you wouldnt expect. They have a bunch of awards for their wings. They have an EXCELLENT pit master out back that makes some of the best brisket youll find just about anywhere (especially in the Huntsville-Decatur area. Im looking at YOU, Big Bob Gibson). They even have southern influenced fusion items like the hillbilly burrito, which sport bbq and so many other things that I cant even describe it. The bread pudding is an out of body experience as well. Dont let the fact that this place is inside of a gas station, or the fact that the seating is just sort of out in the open inside the store scare you away. I was weary of this place too, until my friends took me here. Its fantastic, and considerably better than the other cajun options around town. Parking: Located inside a gas station, but there are extra spaces drawn onto the asphalt. Wheelchair accessibility: The doors to the gas station are fairly easy to get to, and there is a ramp from the curb.

The atmosphere leaves a great deal to be desired (its in a gas station). The staff are not exactly what I would call friendly, either. But the food is pretty good. I think that maybe its a little over-priced for the portion sizes.

Wanted to love this place so bad from all of the wonderful things I have heard. Food was decent, ordered what was suggested to me (the sampler), sweet tea was great, but when they pulled a hair out of the side of my togo box and said oh I didnt see that until now, and still gave me the food that was super disappointing.

Because we have red beans and rice on Mondays, the wife is from Louisiana, I thought I was doing a good thing. Trying a new place for us. That didnt work out so well. Maybe it was a great place once, maybe their real focus is on private catering. It may be a convenient quick lunch spot for some folks, thats fine then. But for real Louisiana folks thats want genuine Louisiana fare, they may want to just stay away....I know we will.

Met a friend here for lunch today. Ive had their shrimp po-boy before and it was excellent. Today I tried the sampler plate and my friend had the red beans, we both topped it off with bread pudding - everything was excellent! Staff are all courteous and friendly. Ill have to go back to try the brisket and sausage.

Celebrating Huntsville Restaurant Week. Been planning to go here for some time, finally made it today. For me, it did not meet my expectations. Four diners, four New Orleans Sampler Plates. Gumbo was thin and watery - was spicy though. Jambalaya was a lot of rice - missing flavor. Red beans and rice was ok, again missing a depth of flavor. Did get a chunk of ham. Sausage was unremarkable. Staff is nice and works at a good pace to get the food out. Popular with a lot of people too - nice lunch crowd.

Let s start off by saying I ve ate here multiple times and the food is always amazing. I usually come in way after they open but today was different. I walked up 5 minutes before they were suppose to open and the old man working was super rude to me and the other worker. He kept yelling at the host not to take our order yet even though she had already told me they didn t open till 11. I was looking forward to getting some food from here today but after I heard how rude he was about not being ready to be open yet I m gonna go somewhere else with better customer service. Note to old man. Maybe you re having a bad day but learn to take that up with yourself and stop treating people around you bad cause of something you don t know how to deal with

This is one of my favorite places to get food from in Huntsville. Fried catfish poboy, jambalaya, red beans & rice, pulled pork sandwich, it s all so good! I ve never been disappointed.

Nice little place with home cooked Cajun entrees and sides. Its inside a gas station, but dont let that fool you. Very tasty choices to select from. I had the fried Catfish poboy and it was a good choice for a late lunch on a rainy afternoon.

I went there for lunch. I was hoping for a light lunch. After skimming over the menu (on the wall behind the counter) I decided Id just have a bowl of gumbo. I might be mistaken but, Im pretty sure I was eating gumbo loaded up with barbecue. It wasnt bad. In fact, it was pretty good. But it wasnt what I thought of as gumbo. (Not that Im a gumbo expert or anything.) Anyway, I think Ill try it again when Im really hungry and ready for a full meal. It was kind of silly of me to look for a light meal inside a gas station.

Maybe I should have gotten the pulled pork but I end up getting 6 wings, 2 sides. Me personally I dont like big wings but the white sauce made up for it. The baked beans and southern potato salad were alright. I definitely done had better. The customer service was great and the employees was friendly.

What a fantastic hidden gem tucked away inside the gas station on the corner. Easily some of the best Nawlins cuisine in the city. Gumbo, etoufee, jumbalaya, red beans and rice all were killer. Will be back with a bigger crowd and appetite.

First let me say, it is inside a gas station. I drove by it the first time I went. This place looks unassuming and maybe underwhelming, but the food is excellent. The etouffee is rich and a bit spicy. The catfish poboy is huge and well seasoned. Its basically a catfish sandwich AND a serving of catfish. The barbeque is the most flavorful weve had since moving to Huntsville. The sides are delicious. But the REAL star of the show is their Fire in the Hole sauce. Its spicy but it has this quick wave of sweetness. Its weird and delicious. I have put it on everything except the Mac & cheese and its been great. If you like hot sauces, I highly recommend trying it. If you dont, you should still come and eat lunch here. Its delicious.

This is the best kept secret in Huntsville! The restaurant is inside a gas station, there are tables and chairs and plenty of space to enjoy your meal. The food is Cajun and quite delicious. The Scruffy Special has fries, shrimp poboy and gumbo.

They have yet to disappoint our family, the food is great and the portions are spot on. New Orleans Lunchbox also caters, before the stupid covid they would cater at my wifes work and it was a hit each time.

Real friendly and good food

I went in for lunch today and ordered the pork plate lunch deal. My order was for pulled pork, chicken jambalaya, and the red beans and rice, with a few pieces of garlic bread. Everything was delicious and for a fair price of slightly under $10. The restaurant is inside a gas station, but don t let that discourage you. The place is very clean and the customer service was great! I will definitely be back to try some other things from the menu. So if your coming through Huntsville, Alabama and you get a craving for some authentic New Orleans style food, make sure to give this place a try!!

Been in a couple of times but what I really miss is when they would show up at our building and set up for lunch! Nothing better than having to go down the hall and get a plate of done amazing BBQ! If you havent been, do yourself a favor and go see these guys! Highly recommend their crawdads and slow boil type dishes when in season!

I tried the shrimp po boy and Ive tried the pulled pork sandwich. The food has so much flavor and is authentic as the owner is from Nawlins. The only downside is usually there is a long wait, so not a quick place to grab lunch.

Dont let the gas station exterior fool you! The food is genuine AND delicious, as the busy counter will attest. I just got home with lunch carryout. While there I learned from Miss Mary that last weekend alone she catered 5 wedding receptions! Thats a great testimony right there!

When I first started going there when I koved to Huntsville the food (brisket and seafood) so delicious. That was a year ago and since then the last few times it hasnt been too appetizing. Now I chooses other places over this one like RDs BBQ.

The Best Louisiana food in Hunstville. The Red Beans and Rice with two sides and a sausage link will satisfy your appetite. The Shrimp or Crawfish Platters are mouth watering. Top it off with some bread pudding. Your taste buds must be able to handle the Louisiana spices.

Some of the best food in Huntsville comes from gas stations, New Orleans Lunchbox is a wonderful representation of what we offer! Red Beans and Rice is the bomb! Its full of flavor and meat! The jambalaya is authentic but not my favorite in town. The Brisket is moist, tender and cooked perfectly. Love this place. I usually get a bowl of Red Beans and a Sausage.
