Creative vibe, with variety of poke nachos, wings, great attentive service, extensive bar. Erin was hostess and very welcoming. One of few places downtown with late night kitchen, I went at 10 pm on a Tuesday night
It was a slow Wednesday nite at around 8pm and my stomach started to growl. I googled "good food near me" and Phat Sammy's offered an inviting menu. I opted for a the Thai soup and Korean salad. Within seconds of placing my take out order I received a text stating my food was ready so I walked 3 blocks from my hotel to pick it up. It was no surprise that my food actually wasn't ready. I was forced to sit through 20min of some of the worst karaoke I've ever heard. The bartender doubled as the server and had to be prompted to check on my food. Thankfully the food was worth the wait. It was a cool spot with fair prices. There were several items on their menu that I'd like to try so chances are...I'll be back.
I love small tiki lounges and frequent them often, but this one I'm having a hard time liking and just confused about its theme. The personnel were wonderful and kind. However, the food wasn't impressive in taste; very skimpy on poke, short on the deep umami flavor I was expecting for a chicken udon noodle dish, overly seasoned spam fried rice... and it was expensive. The chili oil saved the day but come on, I've spent a half days pay for this! Happy hour ends too early. The atmosphere was a mix between tiki and Asian, whatever floats your boat. My opinion here: the music was so loud my server and I had a hard time hearing each other. I like the music but that was crazy, lol. Also, I felt like the server didn't know the food menu really well, as I watched her pull out a full sized document with notes from her back pocket. I digress, the menu had changed very recently, so it is what it is. All in all, I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
Recommended 100% . The food, the service and the atmospheres is really nice . It’s a very unique restaurant-bar and you will have a good timer there .
Very underwhelming. Food description was good but the taste was bland. Server was on her phone. Atmosphere was poor attempt at being “Island “. KFC sandwich was burnt. Phat fries had no flavor.
A friend and I went for drinks and we loved our server Celeste! She chatted with us about all the unique elements on the menu, specifically in the cocktails. I learned about all sorts of new ingredients. I got one of the Wednesday special cocktails which came with popping bobas. So cute! My friend got the Saturn which was also good, though a bit too sweet for my taste. I’ll have to try the food next time! There was a great variety of seating including low and high tables, and cushy chairs and a couch. The decor is bright and fun. A nice casual place. It was quiet when we got there, but got noisier as the night went on in preparation for a comedy show. So just check their schedule depending on what you’re in the mood for.
My first time there, this is my raw and honest review. The food is blah and to cover up the blah they use this very HOT seasoning on everything. I got the basic Lo Mein, chicken and well, the chicken was hard to find in the noodles. The dish was also very spicy. I was trying to enjoy the meal but it was way too damn HOT. We tried the spam like sushi, it was cute but something in it made me gag and want to upchuck. Husband got the K-Mac burger. He said it was ok, it had that spicy seasoning on it. The drinks were ok. Apparently around 9 o'clock they go into "Dive Bar Serving" because of the crowd. Now listen, it's Tuesday evening and there were probably 25 people in there including counting the 2 kids under the age of 10. Now that i had the biggest problem with. Not sure if thia place is managed by kids, but it aure seemed that way. The DJ was on point.
We were a bit hesitant as they have a big menu like other restaurants but the foods were surprisingly good. The wings and ribs were so tasty, crunchy outside and moist inside. The fried rice was not overly seasoned and salty like others.
Great drinks and an amazing vibe!
This was our second time coming to Phat Sammy s , our first time was amazing , this time the food was great and the service was lovely . However, we have two boys that are 2 and 4 and there really isn t a kid option . We like our kids to try different foods and restaurants, but the ramen is quite spicy , and that s about the only thing on the menu that we thought our kids would eat . We ordered one ramen just noodles and broth , no chicken or vegetables and just their meals cost $42 . I have a hard time paying as much as an adult for noodles in broth . I understand they took an entree item and made it special for kids , but this was just really disappointing. We probably won t be back , as we don t have the luxury of someone watching our kids just to eat dinner . My husband did bring to the servers attention , and they took off $10 , which is kind , but that still made two small bowls of noodles $32 . Anyway , the food here is wonderful , and it s a neat place , just not really for little kids , my 12 yr old loves it though.
We love Brittney!!!
The food is delicious and Britney was a wonderful server! Great drinks and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!
Love this place but the lights at the bar are WAY TOO BRIGHT. Really hurts their vibe. Phat Sammys let me install a dimmer for you guys.
Awesome secluded spot!!! I love these hidden gems!!! Definitely coming back! We had the Korean wings (gen. Tao) and the kimchi carbonara. Loved it!
Cool hippie island vibe. Great Asian fusion food selection. My new goto in HSV Food : 5/5
I went to Sammy s for the first time this past weekend and the service was amazing! Our server Keelee had such a positive attitude, fast, and efficient. My family and I will most definitely be back and hope to see her smiling face!
Definitely recommend the general tso wings with pina coladas!! Good happy hour prices. Also, ask for Brittany as your server!! She made the experience the best part!
Lily is a surgeon with a pineapple, and a local tour guide. Great cocktails, great food and cool atmosphere.
Lily and Chase were amazing! The vibes of this places is incredible! Cool Hawaiian speakeasy vibes.
I had a fantastic experience at Phat Sammy s! Our server, Brittany, was outstanding friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The Bulgogi lettuce wraps were flavorful and fresh, and the Spam Fried Rice was packed with savory goodness. Great food and a vibrant atmosphere made for a perfect night. I ll definitely be back and highly recommend Phat Sammy s for a delicious and enjoyable meal!
So ridiculous. We are just stop by for dinner and our girls day, but there have a stand up commedy. Unfortunately, they keep pointing and keep talking about us by uncomfortable way and so freaking racist, not one but more than two comedian. This is not my first time out here, last time we did have a server that she was high and that place wasnt clean as well. Anyway the waitress was nice tho
Surprisingly good. I had a spicy kimchi carborana. My friend had a bulgoki. Both are delicious.
Tried an espresso martini for the first time at Phat Sammy s the other night thinking it would be a new fun drink to add to a night out. Not the case. The bartender automatically poured it into a purple cup, seemed very disinterested my obviously perplexed expression, gave me a look that said I could take the drink outside (because of huntsville s purple to-go cup policy) and shuffled away. Safe to say I haven t been back since.
Some of the best food youll find in Huntsville. This is where I take people that visit from out of town. Good, strong tiki drinks. Awesome atmosphere. Great service.
One of the best restaurants in HSV hands down
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent experience at your establishment. Upon arrival, I found the door locked despite it being within your stated business hours. Additionally, your staff was engaged in conversation and laughter on the other side of the door, seemingly unaware of our presence. This was particularly concerning as we had a disabled family member with us who was left waiting at the door. As this was our first visit, it is unfortunate that it will also be our last.
Awesome experience all around. A sure good time. You cant go wrong choosing Phat Sammys.
Mark is amazing, made a great drink for me in a busy service, hes so knowledgeable and friendly!
Service and bartender were great. Didnt try the food but something smelled really good. Cleanest bathroom I have been in in the city area which is important. Will be back
Awesome bar with a really unique theme that has an awesome vibe and food. Pretty expensive for the casual setting, but its a great place for a night out.
Food was underwhelming. Server was passively rude. Highlight was the atmosphere and well made drinks except the yeast buildup that ended up in my mouth when drinking a draft beer. Business did nothing and acted like nothing happened. They obviously dont clean their lines regularly. Wont be back. Cool aesthetic though.
Brittney was great!
Brittany was an excellent sever!!
Server was Brittany Berry
Brittany was the best!!! Hope to see her next time!
Brittany was awesome ! Would for sure come back !
Come see me for the new menu and drink items!
Love this place! The food and service are ALWAYS great. Brittany served us and she was so much fun and on top of it.
Brittany was great!! Definetly coming back!! Highly recommend!!!
Britany was a great server. . I m very needy, and she was on top of it for me. (Haha)
Brittany was AMAZING so kind, and patient with my questions!!
Brittany is Great!!! She will take care of you like royalty!!
Brittany is the best!!!!
Brittany was great!
Brittany was great!!!
Loved Brittany! She was great!
Brittany was amazing! She added to the atmosphere and kept us laughing! Also the food was top tier! 10/10 will come back again.
Food was good! It was my first time coming and Im a Huntsville native. Now as far as service! OMG!! Brittany!!! She was on top of getting our orders in and helping us decide. The vibes were great! Hope to return soon.
Brittany was great
Brittany was the best!! She made the whole experience amazing!! I ll be back
Brittany was great! Food was great!
Brittney was Awesome! Great service and will definitely be back!
Brittany was great !
Food was great our server Brittany was outstanding and funny!!
Brittany was great! she fulfilled my expectations and was well with time
I have always loved Phat Sammys. The atmosphere is super unique and the location is perfect. Our service with Brittney this go around was exceptional. Highly recommend stopping in and trying it out!!
Great selection of Rums and liquors. The menu is simple but well cooked. Special of the day is worth checking. If you splurge with drinks your tab might reflect it.
Weve been to Phat Sammys several times. The vibe and service is always good. The food is just ok (hasnt been as great as it was our very first visit). But on this visit we witnessed only one cook/preparer wearing gloves. We watched one cook (with the two ponytails) lick his thumb several times without washing his hands and go right back to preparing food. He then stooped down trying to hide while he eat food from a bowl. He stood up with the bowl, walked to the area where the refrigerator is, continued to eat, and then come back to prepare food. Again, never washing his hands. We told our server, Kylie, if she can go ask him to put on gloves. She said she would go and tell Austin (I dont know if Austin is the cooks name or kitchen managers name). But we watched her go speak to the kitchen manager. What was most disappointing is that he disregarded our request. The kitchen manager exhaled really hard with a look of agitation, and turned to speak to the cook. Then they all looked our way. But the cook never went to wash his hands and never put on gloves. We watched two of the cooks and the kitchen manager continue to prepare food without gloves, topping dishes with sesame seeds and onions with their bare hands. Putting his hands on his head, touching his hair, pulling his phone out of his pocket, typing on his phone, wiping his hands on his smock, going behind the bar with his personal thermal cup to get ice and drinking out of it, come back to the kitchen, but not once washing his hands. To top it off, the food was just ok. The beef bulgogi tasted like stir fry, the kimchi tasted spoiled, and our favorite dish, the spam fried rice, just wasnt the same. Very disappointed and will probably not come back.
Brittany was great! Super funny will come back
The staff were so considerate and attentive. The food was delicious as were the MaiTais. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
What an amazing place! The food was over the top delicious. We had a super time, servers were friendly as our drinks were never empty. Will got back again!
Got Poke Nachos and Spam fried rice to-go Good: everything tasted amazing. Bad: I had to scrape all the toppings and sauce off of the chips that the poke nachos were made with since they were soaked through with oil (gross). I know the nachos are listed under small bites but for $17, the portion was woefully undersized Could hardly find any spam in our spam fried rice
The drinks were great! It felt like I was at a tiki bar on the beach. We recommend the wings. Honestly the best wings we ve ever had. It may not be everyone s vibe, but my wife and I had a blast.
Lily an absolutely amazing bartender!! She gives great recommendations for cocktails, was super attentive, and has an amazing personality as well. 10/10 recommend
Look, I get it... there are many variables when it comes to working this type of place. Ive been there. But I have to say, service was mediocre at best. Its as if they didnt care we were there. The food was bland and careless. The presentation looked decent, but the lack of flavor was rough. This place used to be top tier no matter when we came in, but Im not sure what changed. Surely, the recent management swap isnt to blame? I hope... nonetheless, if you can fix the food, this place is 5 stars all the way. The look and feel of it keeps this from failing. Consistency is key. I want to recommend friends here, but as it stands, I just cant.
My husband and I love the food, but we mostly like the whole vibe of the place.
Overall 5/5! Fun, different kind of fusion restaurant to mix things up! I tried the Chicken Katsu sandwich, super good! Parking: Street parking or parking garage across the street
I will be back! Food was really good and conversation was better, friendly staff! I love the atmosphere. I cant wait to show my husband this spot.
From outta town, this place looked cool and site said they specialize in really cool drinks. The BARTENDER was NEW and clearly has never made a drink in her LIFE! I asked her what shed recommend, she said a mai tai or a certain martini. I asked if they came in a small glass, as I was looking for something to sip on a little longer, she said the glasses were really big if you drink, you know thats not the case. I ordered something else, she took forever as she was reading the drink recipes as she was making them, with the paper all the way across the bar! My drink was 96% ice and she even mentioned she thought she put too much juice in it Im coming out of town so I didnt want to make an issue. I ordered enoki Frites, and played some retro video games that part was cool. She had suggested thinking she was better at that cocktail. It came in the tiniest glass, and shed forgotten me while entertaining friends that had come in. As I paid my tab ($42.55), I asked if she was new and handed her a $100 bill. She said oh girl that is way too much let me give you some change WHAT??!! APPARENTLY SHE THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GIVE HER A TIP THAT WAS LARGER THAN MY BILL EVEN WAS I said oh no I need change. I was still going to give her a tip that she worked so she deserved it not really but thats just how I am, she gave me $52 back. Apparently she thought I was drunk off the ice that she served me and pocketed the extra $4 to $5, I politely went to the bathroom for the dollar with my receipt, wrote on the receipt explaining that she would have gotten a better tip if shed give me the correct change. I put it on the bar and left. Very disappointing coming from out of town, the normal me would have said something and confronted her however I didnt want to get in trouble where Im not from. Another couple pulled up while I was waiting for my Uber, asked me how the place was, I told them my experience, they went elsewhere. PLEASE TRAIN YOUR BARTENDER!! Teach her how to count and not to assume everyone is wasted or stupid!! Im an accountant sweetie, I count $$ real good!
It was our second time here. we were excited cause the food was pretty good the first time. unfortunately we were completely disappointed 2nd time. We got the fried rice, boa buns, and a virgin pina colada which were all awful! Not even kidding. The chicken in the bow tasted spoiled, the pina colada also tasted spoiled, the rice was so wet and mushy. Not going back
Food is a 2 out 5. Drinks are a -0. Atmosphere is dirty, also the bathrooms are filthy. Servers are unorganized.
Beautifully unique place. Super interesting and really great food! I m a very picky eater but everything I have tried thus far has been the bomb. The Brussels sprouts and the friend rice are the die for!! Really great service, the drinks were delicious, and fair prices, especially for what you get. 10/10 will come back for sure!!
Came here for dinner on a weekend. Super busy but everything was wonderful! The food was fantastic, the drinks were phenomenal. They have a great selection of drinks and liquors, so so many to pick from it s hard to! The lo mein and dessert Rangoons are the BEST. I ll be back just for these two every time I can. Amazing service our server Stephanie was so nice and attentive! My family and I will definitely be back!!
The food is great the vibe is super chill love the servers definitely recommend
This place is soooooo good bro like om-jizzle mouthwatering, booty pounding, salicious, ravenous, and utterly outstanding. If you want better food you d better go to heaven because you won t find better on earth!!!
It was good
Amazing service and good
Oh Sammy wammy thank you now I got slap my mammmy!! Lunch was so good. As good as the Chinese food I had in China. Wait staff was excellent and friendly. Kid-friendliness: My kids loved it
Phat Sammy s is a traditional Tiki Bar worth driving to Huntsville to experience. The bartenders Perry and Temple are into the Tiki Bar craze like no other and are thoroughly entertaining. Their expertise in Tiki Bar lore, Tiki drinks, other traditional Tiki bar establishments and food served at Tiki Bars is exceptional!
Business travelers were always asking about this place, so naturally I had to try it. Went there for lunch. Everything was fantastic except the mystery wing sauce... But its mystery wing sauce, so you get what you get. Reasonably priced. Tiny pick 3 lunch menu. Quick service. Chill vibe. I can see why everyone wants to go here now.
From what seemed to be a terrible night came to be a dining experience to remember! Phat Sammy s has one of the coolest atmospheres I ve ever seen and with food as good as the atmosphere around you it made for a time I will love to go back too! I wish I had a photo for this review but I ate all of the food before I could remember to take it. From the appetizers to the ending desert I was in shock that such unique food options existed in Huntsville all this time. Everyone go and try their wonton desert please!
Temple, Haley and Stephanie are true class acts. Will come back again and again!
Temple wow d our group with his skills and intellect. We learned about tiki drinks and so much more! Our group will definitely cum back for more Temple!
Thank You!!! Great food, great atmosphere and great service! We enjoyed them all!
I ordered through Uber eats can t speak for the atmosphere the service etc. but this has to be the worst meal I ve had in years. I ordered the Mongolian beef and veggie lo mein. I did not eat it.
I hate leaving bad reviews but I hope doing so will provide the owner helpful feedback. This place has great potential and the atmosphere is lovely but the food quality is so bad. I got food poisoning from eating their POKE NACHOS. To start there was only tiny bits of tuna in it if there was a good amount I would be deathly sick right now. The wontons were heavily saturated in oil and thick not lightly crisp like they should be. Cucumber was so old it tasted pickled. Drenched in a white sauce to basically cover the fact that it had couple pieces of tuna. My husband ordered the spam and thought it was decent aside from the huge amount of kimchi. For the cost of the food i definitely expect better quality food especially if you re going to be serving something so delicate like tuna. The service was good and I would probably return for drinks only.
My wife and I ate here last night. The food had strange flavors that didnt go together. Im glad I dont eat tuna. A customer who ate here last night got food poisoning from the tuna. Service was horrible. The girl was nice but sucked at serving. My complaint is my wife and I were charged $11 gratuity. Since when do places like this have gratuity. The server didnt deserve $11. We tip well when we go out because my wife also serves at a restaurant. Our server was worth $5 tops. We will never return. Money was taken from us and nowhere on the menu does it say they take gratuity. Because of this place, everywhere we go from now on Ill be sure to ask if they take your money or let you leave the tip your server deserves. As far as atmosphere the incense was killing me. It burns my eyes. I dont like the smoke or smell. I was miserable and we could have gotten out of there quicker if our server had been better.
Wheelchair accessibility: No access Food
Go eat the Spam Fried Rice!! Do yourself the favor
Great atmosphere and staff. Drinks are inventive and great price during happy HOURS!!! Apps are good size for sharing.
Came in over the weekend and was very disappointed. Food was extremely bland and flavorless. It took a while to come out. Server did not ever check on us other than dropping the food and the bill. Drinks were okay but pricey. For how much you end up paying, it didn t make sense to come back. I ve had better service and food at McDonald s.
The atmosphere of the place is great, but our food and drinks werent. The food was... okay, but for the price, it should be more than ...okay. We spent $100 on two people. For this kind of place, I think thats high, but forgivable if the food is good; it is not. Would love to see it succeed, but a lot will have to change first. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair inaccessible; located underground and you have to walk downstairs.
This was my first time eating at Phat Sammys. Be warned that this restaurant requires the use of stairs!!! Service was very good, they were helpful and attentive. Kitchen and dining area looked pretty clean, but its sooo dark in there, that someone like me with vision issues had a little bit of a hard time making out some of the decor in there. Food: both the kimchi slaw (wasnt even sour btw) on my sandwich and cucumber kimchi (a side order) were Very, very bland- like they salted it to begin the pickling process but they completely skipped the garlic and onion to put pepper flakes on it.. big for me, as im a kimchi enthusiast. literally tasted like spicy cucumber seltzer water. Appetizers: We got Enoki Frites and Crab Rangoons, both pretty damn good. Enoki Frites were easily my favorite, fried to perfection and the sauce is a perfect match. I wouldve gotten a double order of the frites alone if i had known theyd be so good. overall the KFC Sandwich (the one w kimchi slaw) was alright. Flavor wasnt bad but it was nothing to write home about. It was also.. very wet and messy. The cook on my dishes was very good, however! Overall, this seems like a fun place to drink but i wouldnt spend money on the food again unless it was a shareable appetizer type of dish maybe, those seemed to be the best out of the plates we got Wheelchair accessibility: I dont know if they have an alternative entrance but this place has stairs that you use to enter and exit- like a flight and a half.
Jake waited on our table and did an amazing job. Good food that didnt take too long to arrive, unique and laid back atmosphere, coupled with great service. Definitely recommend.
The food, cocktails, and atmosphere are awesome.
The environment and staff were great, never went more than 5 minutes without a staff member checking on the table. Drink options were nice but the glasses are packed with Sonic style ice that melted fairly quick and watered the drink down. Had the beef bulgogi for my meal, the beef and rice were delicious but the kimchi tasted like melted plastic so that left a bit to be desired. My wife had the K-mac and enjoyed it.
Today I tried the lunch special: Pros: fast! The toast app told me 25 minutes, but I picked up in 12. I ate it within another 2 minutes. It was easy to order. Perfectly cooked veggies (minute the carrots) with lots of variety. Maybe even a lil bok choy? They also had the option for broccoli only if you re so inclined. Good spring roll (seemed to have been sitting and was pretty cold so no crunch but the flavor was nice.) Great portions for the price (10.99) Cons: Mongolian beef didn t have any kind of sauce or onions/scallions that you would usually expect, so didn t have much flavor. Zero spice. There was a sizeable portion, but a lot of it was very sinewy and inedible. It was also fried and had a weird, soggy breading? It left a weird greasy mouthfeel. Maybe this had been sitting around a moment. Lo mein had a very sweet flavor with thin noodles, I m going to file this under neutral vs a con, it may be a personal preference. It did have lots of veggies. The soup. This soup was literally just kimchi in hot water, and tasted like such. Salt didn t save it, it s a lost cause. Most of Carrots were straight up raw in the mixed veggies. I usually enjoy a crunch, but not to much you can t poke them with a fork in Chinese food. You can t redeem loyalty points in the app, which is a smidgen annoying. I d like to try it again; maybe with the orange chicken and fried rice. Overall I m going to give it a 2.75 leaning to a 3.
Went recently on a weeknight for a date night out. The ambiance is really great and staff and service were fine. The menu and especially drink options were very well cultivated and thought out. UNFORTUNATELY, the flavors are very out of whack and underwhelming. We tried several drinks and felt that all were off on mixtures - coming across far more bitter than enjoyable or smooth. Most of the food was also underwhelming on flavor and spices. We were very impressed with the brussel sprouts though. Pricing was reasonable and enjoyed the experience, but this place could be special if they got the drinks and food right.
Food was pretty good. It took like 2 hours though.
What to say. Sammys was fantastic when they first opened, but my how times have changed. Tiny bugs swirling around everywhere, and even ended up on our food and in our drinks. Twice we received drink glasses with lipstick stains on them. Servers never checked on us and we had to wave them over for anything (they were all very nice and accommodating). Food was still great, but if the dining room had that many bugs I shudder to think what the kitchen looks like. Sammys, Im begging you, get your act together.
Great place to bring new to Huntsville folk like me to experience a good night out. Try the Bambalam and the delicious wings, and you wont go wrong Food
This place has gone downhill within the last couple months. I came for dinner and food was mediocre. No flavor. Drinks overpriced. Food overpriced. Staff just okay. Would not recommend or go again. Spend your money elsewhere.
The food and drinks were absolutely fantastic! We loved the bulgogi and the fantastic voyage however.. our server Zoe really didnt meet expectations for the cost of the meal.
If I could give no stars or negative...this place has fallen off real bad. The service was terrible, we had to keep reminding the server for our food and drinks. the server only came back once only to bring the check. No refills and no utensils. We were very disappointed. Terrible service and drinks. I will not be coming back.
Service by MaKenzie was some of the worst Ive ever had. They also charged 20% gratuity on people without telling them or written on the menu. They said they were also out of Ramen but then saw the cook eating Ramen at the bar. Drinks took 25 minutes to come out. Food took even longer. Its like it was her first job, and didnt care about it. Toilet also for whatever reason, didnt flush.
This is the worst service & food I ve ever had, server was ignorant and rude. I never got a refill and was constantly having to remind the server about my drink and food. The bathrooms are disgusting and were dirty as h3ll and the toilet didn t even flush. Beware of this place. The server up charged her tip to 20% and was laughing about it while smelling like fresh cigarette smoke. This place is going down hill
This was hands down the worst place I have ever eaten at, first the prices are ridiculously high, how are you going to charge 19$ for something that doesn t even fill up my 4 year old brother. The service was so trash that people were in and out so fast because the service was so garbage, it took us 25 minutes to even get the cups to drink our water. I should ve known better seeing the dead roach on the floor as soon as we walked in. The only server there told me they were out of ramen, but 15 minutes later I turn around and I see the chef chowing down on it. The drinks were super watered down according to my fellow peers. Absolutely nightmare, and don t even let me get started on the bathrooms, they were so disorganized. There was also no sign saying a 20% gratuity, but they sure did put it on the ticket. If I could give this place Zero stars I would. I will not be back. Please stick with your local fast food.
Some of the WORST service I ve ever had
Honestly this place is not worth the hype nor the food. I ordered the beef bulgogi and it was extremely too salty. Also we ordered the seafoam punch bowl which only tasted like expired watered down alcohol and fruit peels for $45. NOT RECOMMEND. Phat Sammy s could use better staff and proper cleanliness especially in the bathrooms. Regardless I m never going back or recommending people there again.
Great Tiki spot in Huntsville.
Pretty sure its the only Tiki Bar in Huntsville! Great little hole-in-the-wall place in downtown Huntsville. Really liked the theme, decor, and atmosphere. I was on travel solo, but I can imagine being a regular here if I was a local.
New lunch menu is a must! $11 and couldn t finish my plate. Comes w soup we had thai curry - oh my god. Dip all your food in it. Wonderful deal and great food!
Our experience would have been better if the dinne cook showed up. We were served the lunch menu which was just ok. The appetizer was on the happy hour special but we were charged the full price The Pina colada was just ok,full of ice.Chicken wings were great. Service was good.
Service was fast and friendly. Food and drinks were great need a bigger sign outside spot was hard to find
I was very disappointed by this place. The cocktails are the price of a full meal first of all. The ambience is amazing and the restaurant is super cool. I ordered the pork katsu sandwich but the waitress came back and told me that they couldnt make it so I got the beef bulgogi instead. The beef was tough, and the rice was undercooked, which felt like a waste of $18. My husband got the beef lomein and it was pretty good but same issue with the beef. We got the bao buns for an appetizer and they had a sort of rubbing alcohol aftertaste. Could have been wasabi? There was only one waitress for the entire restaurant on MARDI GRAS which was a bad decision. The owner should have come to help out if they knew they were so short staffed. We werent given napkins or silverware, and it took awhile for them to refill our water. I was really excited for the restaurant but was left sorely disappointed. We will not be back.
Too loud, food is over priced for mediocre food. The drinks are expensive and they fill the glass half way. You better call and make a reservation if you have more than 2 people, otherwise you ll be stuck sitting in patio furniture and sharing a small patio table made for 2. I deff won t be going back. No hate, service was kind and caring. But everything else was not great.
Love the drinks here, the food is typically a miss for me.
Good burgers. Great staff.
1/24 Update: Its been awhile since Ive stopped in at Phat Sammies and Im happy that they are just as good as before. The atmosphere is always cool and layed back. (I really enjoyed the old WF wrestling on the big screen. Haha a lot of fun I didnt know I needed.) Our server was really nice and just the right amount of attentive and the food was delicious, as always! The happy hour is totally worth it. All the apps are good and who does enjoy a good deal? I also had the KFC sandwich and let me tell you, that was one of the juiciest and flavorful chicken sandwiches Ive ever had. If you havent been in awhile, please stop by and support one of our amazing local businesses. Definitely my favorite place to eat downtown. The food is always on point. Always something new and always something good. Their staples are just as great though. I love their cocktails too. If you want something interesting, go on Wu Tang Wednesdays. They always make a specialty cocktail and its always good. These are experienced bartenders. They know whats up, just like the food staff. I wish I was rich where I could eat here every night. Parking: Huntsville has free downtown street parking after 5. Availability is always iffy though. Usually parking if you know where to look. Might have to do some walking but this is downtown, after all.
a pacific islander getaway in the basement of a southern downtown. mixing classic retro video games and tiki heads. the poke nachos are a must and the drinks never disappoint
The food was good and the service was good. We didnt realize that it was pretty much a bar setting. Probably wont go back for that reason alone.
Another classic case of I REALLY wish half stars were an option! 3.5 for me based on my first visit. My girlfriends came from out of town for Christmas and we decided to come here for a gathering. I was easily able to make reservations on RESY for a table for the three of us + 2 husbands + a bonus friend who joined last-minute (so, 6 total). Our reservation was ready on time, although our tables were two round-tops pushed together, which made talking to people at the opposite table (especially in the loud environment) kind of hard. I dont hold this against them too much because we expected a noisy environment; just something to keep in mind for larger parties. They werent super-duper busy but service was a little slow and disjointed. However, I got the impression our waitress was still a little new or overwhelmed -- maybe not enough other waitresses to cover all the tables or something. She kept up a pleasant and helpful demeanor and all our food and drinks were right when we got it, so thats a plus. Im not a huge drinker so perhaps some aspects of the experience were lost on me. I didnt want to miss out on the tiki fun, so I tried an Ango Colada. It wasnt really for me, but I didnt think the bitters would come through so...well...bitter -- I was hoping for stronger pineapple and lime flavors but I mostly just got alcohol, lol. More than willing to accept this as a me problem. The rum and coke I continued the night with was perfectly fine. Others in my party who got tiki drinks seemed to come to the consensus that it was good but not great. All the drinks have fun names, so that adds some entertainment value. The Three Dots and a Dash was probably the best/most popular drink at our table. We did all feel like the drinks went pretty heavy on the ice to drink ratio. The food was resoundingly fine! In some ways though it was my biggest disappointment because Ive been excited and intrigued by the PS menu in all its iterations since they opened. I ordered the K-Mac burger with fries, husband got the pork katsu sando, and others at the table got a variety of other things, to include the beef bulgogi rice bowl, the poke nachos, wings, Thai coconut curry, and a small order of fried rice. Personally, I sampled the nachos, the pork katsu sandwich, and of course my meal. The nachos were pretty good -- very crispy -- though I only had a bite with sauce and veggies, none of the fish. My husbands pork katsu sandwich was probably my favorite thing I tried. Bright flavors, crispy breaded pork, nicely toasted bread. We both enjoyed the thick-cut fries, though they couldve stood to be slightly crisper. My burger was kind of...odd? The beef tasted good, the egg was cooked nicely, the flavor of the kimchi on top was fine...but I dont feel like it really came together. My biggest problem was that it was so absolutely enormous it was impossible for me to eat it with my hands. While I appreciate the size from a value standpoint, I really prefer not to cut my burger into bite-size pieces, haha. Additionally, having to do that meant it was hard for me to ever get a bite with all the ingredients on it, which kind of prevented me from getting the total picture. I also thought the kimchi unfortunately made the top bun pretty soggy pretty fast. If I ordered this again, Id ask for no kimchi, mostly because of that. I can see myself giving this place another go in the future. I like the creative food and drink options and the sort of underground tiki bar vibe is definitely a fun one. They also have lots of changing themed drinks, fairly solid happy hour deals, and fun events like Christmas movie nights, drag bingo, etc. Give them a try and see what you think!
If you want a tiki bar with great food, this is the place. Killer atmosphere and great place to get a drink and just chat.
This is a quirky, hole in the wall kind of restaurant, exactly the places I like to find when in a new place for work! I mistakenly thought this was a Caribbean island themed place but it s actually a pacific island theme. My confusion didn t change my positive experience. Decent local and craft beer selection. Some random bar foods thrown in with various Asian and Island inspired dishes. It s a bar so don t expect 5 star food but it does the job. This might be a fun place on the weekends but was pretty quiet on the random weeknight I visited. Weeknight happy hour specials are a great deal!
Went for lunch for the first time today. We had the chicken sandwich and the burger. Food was very good. Several craft beers on draft. More liquor selection available than beer. Will definitely try again. Food : 5/5
Overall, Id go again IF it was NOT Wu Tang Wednesdays, because it was just too loud (I understand thats on me, I know that WuTang can be abrasive). If I sat at lower table that has chairs, not metal backless high top. And if I ordered a easy beer before waiting on the delicious tiki drink that took 40mins to get to table. They were short staffed, and I understood that, but its still a factor on whether Id go back. The tiki drink was amazing but it didnt get there till after two rounds of appetizers and we were already eating entrees. The food was good! Kitchen was nailing it. But we were uncomfortable and it was too loud to talk and we didnt have our drinks, so it wasnt the best experience. Id go back at a less busy hour, maybe lunch and sit at different table.
Great, creative menu and friendly service. The mixed drinks are amazing as are the wings. This is my #1 spot to recommend to people visiting HSV. Make sure you make a reservation - the dining room is small and fills quickly.
I had been following (ok stalking) them on Instagram for a while and was super excited when I finally had a chance to visit. We came with another adult couple and their children (three of them all under 5). We visited at lunch and there was only one other couple in the restaurant. We had cups for the kids so we only needed glasses for the adult. We started off with cocktails. The were all amazing. Mine was some sort of green tea infused vodka drink and I need it in my life again soon lol. Anyway, everyone enjoyed their drinks. Then we ordered 3 appetizers. Only three of us ate and the other adult sat with the kids and read to them. All of the apps were unique and flavorful. The fries were great, the clams with some a bacon filled broth were also delicious, and the general tso wings were outstanding. The waitress even played with the youngest kid when he went exploring in the empty restaurant. Then came time for the bill. They added gratuity for a large group!! How? Why? You literally provided service for three adults for the whole dining experience. One adult ordered one cocktail and moved away from the table to play with the kids. This ruined my whole dining experience. They were basically empty and I guess adding gratuity was supposed to make up for a slow business day. Not cool at all. I m giving three stars for the food and drink because yes they were great. Taking off two stars because you would have received a 20% tip regardless because the service was great. But including gratuity when you only serviced four people....not cool.
Eclectic food and staff. Great visit. Phat Fries are a definite app. Cheesy, creamy, spicy, eggy - heavily salted that night. The footlong hotdog is messy tasty meal, best eaten with knife and fork. Spam Fried Rice was a little more rice than Spam. Battleship Curry was tasty. Beyond Bangkok (Beyond Burger) was reported as tasting like meat and a decent sandwich. A lot of fries accompany the sammies. Recommend reservations, especially after 6pm any night.
I dont usually leave reviews, but I had to for this place. I had the k-mac burger here, and when the bartender asked how it was, I truthfully told her that it was the best burger Ive ever had. In retrospect, I would say its *one of* the best Ive ever had, but holy hell was it delicious. That is reason enough to write a 5 star review, but just looking over their menu, they have a generous happy hour. The fact that its underground is pretty cool, too.
Get the Saturn cocktail and the Pork Katsu Sandwich.
Drinks were good all the staff were occupied talking amongst themselves. We felt a bit unwelcome
This place is awesome. I had the special which was a beef tongue philly it was so tender and flavorful. Then a phat zombie to finish off the meal. Highly recommend.
The loaded fries advertise fried chicken but trust me when I tell you it s a microwaved, non seasoned or flavored chicken wing. Disgusting!
This basement tiki bar is a hidden gem. The cocktails are authentic and delicious perfectly crafted to tantilize both pallet and eyes. The service was prompt and friendly. They answer any questions quickly and accurately. We ordered the miso cheese and bacon tots and the vegetable egg rolls. The miso tots are a bit heavy for an appetizer. The egg rolls while delicious they were soggy from grease. Wheelchair accessibility: Is handicap accessible through the back door. The front door leads you down a flight of stairs.
Our go-to fav in HSV. I am struggling because it was the first night of the new menu and we didnt like anything particularly and both appetizers were incorrect and werent warm. And trust me - luke warm octopus is a rough one when you didnt order it. The mushroom appetizer also was meh. Didnt care for the Korean fried chicken although it had potential if hot and without the tasteless pattie of something it was served on. The spicy cucumbers with the chicken were tasty. Buuut to be fair, it was the first night of a new menu and the kitchen was having issues so we will return and try something else. I do encourage the management to re-evaluate the menu and see if there can be tweaks done. I would never say go back to the old menu as I know that isnt feasible and I dont want to not try new things... We really love the staff, decor and ambiance so we really are pulling for the place to succeed.
Updating my review after a couple of years. Still have an awesome atmosphere, and the food is tasty. Im happy they revamped the menu after a couple years of the same stuff. huge variety of drinks that are all strong and delicious! Slightly more upbeat/responsive service would be appreciated, though.
First time here and I would come back in a heartbeat! Phat Sammy s has an awesome atmosphere, strong tasty drinks and FANTASTIC service. Our waitress was funny, upbeat & attentive with awesome pink hair to boot. 10/10 Highly recommend
Get the Saturn, everything on the drink menu is great but that one in particular is just incredible. Great tunes, vibes and a whole lot of fun!
I loved all of it. Even the music has a cool Sublime/Weezer vibe. The manager introduced herself, the drinks were delicious, and the food was cleaned up by all three of us.
I loved the Kimchi Pancake and Chicken Wings. I am asian so wanted to try Battleship Curry, I was bit a disappointed with that curry but the drinks compensated. So, I am definitely going here again to try out their interesting menu
Worst place I ve eaten in Huntsville. The atmosphere is nice, but that s the only good thing I can say. We waited 20 minutes on the waitress to come to the table to get our order. Another lady did come to get our drinks and told us that the waitress was new and she was training her. Finally, the waitress came to get our order after I had to tell the lady who got our drinks that if it was going to be much longer we would just go somewhere else. I asked the waitress how her first night was going and she said it s not my first night I don t know why she told you that. I asked for a hard boiled egg in my ramen and the kitchen staff came out and told me it ll be six minutes on the egg if it s hard boiled I said that s ok. You could tell he did not want to do my egg as hard boiled. The food finally gets there and it was flavorless and cold. My hard boiled egg finally came out after we had finished eating and was broiled and was literally rubber and burnt. We also ordered the Korean chicken and it was not anything like Korean chicken totally flavorless. The drinks we ordered were lack luster. Don t waste your 100 bucks for bad drinks and worse food as well as horrible service.
Wouldnt bother. Starters arrived cold and were sent back. Then kept waiting for mains but when queried told the kitchen had shut. Staff the most disinterested in providing a service Ive encountered in the US. No effort or interest in serving our table. (Small party of 3) The food we got was tasty enough but there are much better places around.
Go check out their new menu!! The beef bulgogi was absolutely amazing! They still have some of my original favs too like the Phat fries, the Brussel sprouts, and the battleship curry. Though if you haven t been in a while, definitely check it out again! This is easily one of my favorite spots in Huntsville for food and drinks!
First off, the atmosphere was really cool. We stayed for a few drinks, which, in my opinion were a little overpriced, and mixed up by a very inexperienced bartender. To be fair, I didn t give the food a try, but the menu was very eclectic. Might give this place another chance just for the vibe.
The food was not good at all. I ordered the wings with the spicy sauce and Bahn mi. The wings sauce was very thick and orange colored and not good at all. The good thing about the Bahn mi was the veggies. The pork in the Bahn mi was very chewy. I get the fusion thing but this was a big let down. The waitress didnt know the menu at all. A friend at the table ordered a coke and instead of giving the customer the small bottle of coke, the waitress kept refilling the glass with the small bottle of coke. That was very weird and unsanitary.
This place is adorable, the drinks were on point, and the staff was great to hang our with.
I am generally the kind of person who tends to be forgiving and give folks the benefit of the doubt. Honestly, this is the first time I have ever felt compelled to leave a review for any business that wasnt five stars, but Phat Sammys earned it. The experience began by walking up to the host stand, where the hostess was holding her phone horizontally in front of her face, seemingly playing a mobile game. The only acknowledgment we got was her informing us the kitchen was closed. 8:15 seemed pretty early to close a kitchen in a bar downtown to me, but that was okay, my wife and I were still interested in having a drink or two. We greeted a familiar face at the bar and sat at a table nearby. I wish I could then describe the service we received, but you have to actually receive service to rate it. All told, we waited over twenty minutes without so much as a greeting. No eye contact, no nod, no well be with you shortly, etc. If the bar was overcrowded, understaffed, on the verge of closing time, in the middle of a shift change, or some combination of the above, I might understand that. That was not the case, however. The bar was half empty with at least three servers and two bartenders on duty, it was nearly five hours until close, and not one sign of the chaos of a shift change. Still, there was nothing for us for at least twenty full minutes. I want to say they dont even deserve the one star, but in the end we were ignored long enough that we decided to go to Domaine South where we received prompt service, incredible drinks, and a delicious meal. I guess it wasnt all for nothing. At least the rest of my night was great, and I have a place I can permanently scratch off my list the next time I have a hard time deciding where Id like to grab a couple of drinks and a bite to eat downtown.
Place looks really cool, waiters really nice, music is cool.....food is ehh, so so. Cool to check out once but not a repeat for me.
Very disappointed. We waited for 20 minutes for someone to take our order. No contact from anyone. I even waved and made eye contact with several servers and still nothing. My wife and I finally left and went to a different place. Nobody even bothered to stop us on our way out. I don t think these people value their customers
Leave tables open for walkins!
Food was meh...Service was horrible. We arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday for party of 4. Were seated immediately. After 20 min, I went to the bar to request the waitress. Another 10 min went by before she appeared. During this time, I watched 3 tables leave without being served. She brought us water (shorted us a glass) and took our drink order. She returned and started her speech again as if she never took our drink order. Im pretty positive she was enjoying a little grass on the clock if you get my drift. Friends of ours arrived later, and they were also ignored for a good while, only to be told they werent going to be served since the kitchen was closing. I reached out to the owners privately to address concerns, but they have not responded. It doesnt seem like this establishment has no desire to work on the issues to make this a pretty great place.
Amazing service!
I recently took my family to this bar, and the food and drinks blew us away! We decided to give it a shot despite the fact that it isnt particularly kid-friendly, and were so pleased we did. The charsu was the outstanding dish; it was created with the rib piece of the meat, which is a bit unconventional, but it was absolutely excellent. The beef bulgogi was equally delicious, and my wife and I were so taken with the charsu rib dish that we ordered it to go. The taste combinations in the dishes really amazed us. The pineapple salsa and cucumber salad complemented the charsu brilliantly - it was a taste explosion in every bite. And the drinks were wonderful as well; the bartenders know how to make some great cocktails. Overall, we were pleasantly impressed by the quality of the meal and drinks, and we want to go back soon. If youre seeking for a unique and excellent culinary experience, this bar is a must-visit! Edit: my wife and I went there a second time to get the charsu and was kind of disappointed, the food all depends on who is cooking it. It was over cooked, dry, and flavorless, but the drinks were always on point.
Great, fun, innovative drinks served by friendly bartenders. Delicious Asian fusion food. Just a really fun place and satisfying experience. Ask for Brittany at the bar.
This place was cool! Dark lounge vibes, food was good, I was a little surprised to find they were using an alternate menu but we enjoyed all the food!
Everything was fantastic. Staff, table, food, drinks.
Great place for food and drinks!
I want to give this place the benefit of the doubt because it was a place that i wanted to try for a while now.. I dined in and sat at the bar by myself. The bartender then greets me and asks if I want water and I say yes.Coming from a fellow bartender and server I totally get it that it can be overwhelming when it comes tending to the bar plus making well drinks. I dont know if the young lady was new at bartending or just did not know how to multitask. Which is a key skill at any restaurant. But it seemed like she forgot about me. This place has a lot of potential, it really does. I enjoyed the food and drink, but it took so long for her to even get my order so i flagged the other young lady behind the bar(took about 25 minutes for my order to get took, I dont know if she was bar backing or a manager) she pretty much tended to me the whole time i was there. Then I waited another 10 or so for my drink. As I was waiting, the bartender then comes to me and finally asks for my order and I informed her that the other young lady already put it in. When I first arrived the place was not busy until about 30-40 minutes after then traffic started rolling in. The bartender just was not very attentive at all sadly, maybe she was shy, just very slow moving overall behind the bar. I never got silver ware or a refill on water or anything. I had to grab my own chopsticks. The atmosphere was great though. I hate that I didnt tip the 20% because I usually OVER tip, instead a little under 18%. I will come back to give it another try because I loved the idea of the food menu and drinks. I would have ordered more to drink if i knew that I wouldnt have to wait another 25 minutes or so for someone to take my order.
Got a curry to go. It was in a foldable box and the time I took it home it was leaking out of the box. Never again and the portion was very small.
Hidden gem, down the steps and thru the solid pink door. The food was great! We had tofu ramen and seiten. Seiten is gluten based and looks like steak. The drinks are plenty and many options! Get the Phat Zombie triple the alcohol!
Phat Sammy s is a cool experience. The decor is tiki niche and really sets the atmosphere for patrons. The staff was, like many tiki bars, decked out in Hawaiian shirts and super friendly. Overall the atmosphere and service was great! But the food and drinks made this a one time experience for my husband and I. We have been to a few tiki bars and this was our least favorite. The food was meh and overpriced, especially for Huntsville,AL. The drinks were uninspired and didn t have that tiki flare we look for when we go to tiki bars. No drinks in a pineapple or coconut, basic garnish for drinks, and their tiki classics are not as true to tiki classics as others in my experience. The food was nothing to write to home about, $10 for six pieces of rangoon was weird. We ve been in cities with higher inflation and for literally $5 more had a huge rangoon dip with fried wontons. The ramen was not good. The noddles were over cooked and the broth was too heavy and not creamy, and it tasted like the eggs were dipped in a salt bath. The spicy ramen was not spicy at all. If you ve never been to a tiki bar, the atmosphere is definitely a must experience! But if you re an amateur tiki enthusiast don t expect the best. My recs to the restaurant: you have too many food & drink options, stick to few that you can do well and focus on that. Bring more fresh ingredients into the drinks, not just to garnish.
We had such a blast and were so happy that we stumbled upon this hidden gem! Cocktails were phenomenal!! The fried enoki was out of this world delicious!!
Phat Sammys surprised the hell out of me. The unassuming, somewhat unkept basement entrance definitely gave me pause as I descended. However, I am SO glad I pushed past this original misgiving. The food and drinks are PHENOMENAL and the service terrific. Although the atmosphere exudes casual, carefree tropical fun, the South Asian, South Pacific fusion food should be considered Casual, Bright and Exciting Gourmet (if such a category exists!). I had the Thai Coconut Curry soup and Crab Rangoon, both of which were AMAZING, with surprisingly complex levels of flavor. The pride and detail with which they were crafted stood out immediately. My server, Jess W., an enthusiastic, blue-haired waitress who interacts deeply and intelligently with patrons, informed me that all the fare is created from scratch; even the pastry is hand rolled! For drinks I ordered Phat Vacation and Absolutely Not a Painkiller. Delightful in taste and artistic appearance, again, both were beautifully and expertly crafted. Thus, in these categories of food, drinks and service, I cannot recommend Phat Sammies enough! Summed up in two words: Sneakily AMAZING!
You might walk by this place while hanging out downtown. Look for the pineapple and go on in. They have the most interesting drinks and they are creative. I am sure you will find one you will end up loving.
Cool little spot to hang out with a group or for couples. Just need to go down the stairs. Nice air conditioned room. Good drinks which were kind of small but strong. Food looked legit as well, but we only had drinks. Worth checking out
Definitely a great spot. Service was great, food was fantastic, drink selection was awesome. Will definitely come back next time Im in Huntsville!
Superb service and delicious drinks! Hayley was fast and friendly with excellent cocktail recommendations.
Not the best experience. A/C did not seem to be working so it was hot and uncomfortable.
Very tasty and cute atmosphere. Just like an underground tiki bar should loom! We had the bao buns, Brussel sprouts and wings. Also a hurricane, mocktail and a coconut coffee. The signature drink cups are awesome. The waitress apologized for our food coming out separate but it was actually perfect because we ate as 3 courses and it all came out super hot. The Brussel sprouts were so good we were already googling cured egg before we left. The wings had just the right amount of spice and super crispy. It was perfect. I also have to give a shout out to the manager. The table next to us was quite rude to her and she managed with grace. Also very affordable. 3 small plates which were more than enough for 2 people and 3 drinks for 70$ quite affordable. We will definitely go back! Vegetarian options: Had tofu and noodle dishes.
My wife and I really wanted to give this place a chance. It was just a frustrating experience for us. We knew exactly what we wanted when we got there and ordered as we sat down. Our drinks came out immediately (delicious, btw), but we waited an hour for our food. Not once did the wait staff even come by the table. I hate that the service ruined the experience. The food was good, but like i said, it was terrible service. We got there shortly after 5 and left after 7. I dont think we will come back after this.
Awesome joint
Funky little place to stop in for a drink. Its downstairs through a nondescript door so just know that before you go.I though that the drinks were a little on the pricey side for their size but they were good and strong. We didnt eat there but the food looked good.
Many reviews have mentioned dishes taking a long time to cook and theyre not wrong but I will never consider that a bad thing if what I get is as delicious and high quality as what we ordered. If youre in a hurry, this may not be the place to eat without ordering in advance but as kind as the staff is I theorize theyd do their best to help. Clean, Hawaii style atmosphere, attentive, kind, accommodating staff, fresh, delicious food. Stairway entry Vegetarian options: The menu has recently been updated with several vegan proteins. Staff is happy to sub items to accommodate dietary restrictions of all kinds Dietary restrictions: Staff is knowledgeable about a variety of dietary restrictions and will happily accommodate as necessary
Fun, eclectic combination of Hawaiian / Polynesian decor, American spirits, and Korean dishes. Pull up a seat at the tiki bar, order a fruity drink and some cucumber kimchi and enjoy the 80s tunes. Very casual, laid back vibe. All types of folks are welcome. Perfect place for larger groups to gather as a main event or small groups or couples to pop in for a drink before moving on to dinner or a show. Group of 4? Feeling adventurous? Order a mini-swimming pool full of sweet, slushy rum and straws to go around. I recommend the deep end!
Was a fan of this place for a long time but something has changed in the kitchen. Dishes Ive had several times are coming out very different these days. Weve had a couple of instances of dishes being so overly salted that they were inedible (a member of our party salts EVERYTHING he eats, and he still couldnt choke it down). Its disappointing. I really hope this place gets back to its old self because we really did love eating here.
Great atmosphere, loved the 70 s-80 s music, staff were fun and attentive. Food options were tasty and are an interesting spin on Asian fare. All was great, except while the mixed drink menu is vast and interesting, most were expensive, over iced, and in most of our drinks the additives (lime juice, syrups, mixes, etc.) were too overpowering in the drink.
Fun little hide! Temple (bartender) was a great host! Drinks went down easy and flavorful food
I visited about a year ago, and you can tell they ve definitely stepped up their game. The drinks were excellent, with a wide selection even including an on menu mocktail. The food was delicious, with a heavy portion of beef in the Lo Mein. Worth the price, too we paid $60 before tax for 3 drinks, an app, and an entree. Definitely a must visit when I come to Huntsville.
Phat Sammy s is always good! We got the Phat Fries, KFC sandwich, and Lo Mein with Chicken. The island Breeze drink was also really good! Everything was 10/10!
Amazing food, great service. Great vibe for fun, food, anime, kids welcome. Loved this experience. Old VHS movie, retro gaming, anime on the big screen. Love it
Can not justify $18 for tonkotsu ramen that doesn t have any protein besides an egg in it (and barely any toppings). Everything else was okay. We did enjoy the Rosemary s baby cocktail. We really wanted to like this place, but we don t have any reason to come back after this experience.
Very cool vibes! We will definitely be back Service : 5/5
Vegetarians do not come! My husband was very excited to try this place because it had some vegetarian options with great flavors. And the flavors *were* great unfortunately the server wasn t careful about delivering the correct order and he unknowingly consumed meat. As someone who hasn t had any meat product in 25+ years this was highly concerning medically (at a certain point your body can no longer process the enzymes), but the staff was too lacksadaisical about it. No concern for his well being, no attempt to make the situation right with our bill or anything- just brought him his correct sandwich and left. We had to leave pretty quickly to mitigate the onset stomachs issues. If I could give 0 stars I would. This was medically negligent.
Eclectic menu, fun atmosphere, downstairs on the square. Tofu chili cheese dog and fries amd the egg roll was delicious.
Great place with a chill vibe. Amazed, they had a sega genesis and super Nintendo, lol. Loved the painting in the wall.
I wanted to try it again and give another chance. New menu looked interesting, food didnt turn out good. Curry hummus was fine. Vietnamese steak platter was uninspired. (what was Vietnamese about it?) Pretty sure the kimchi gave me good poisoning. Disappointed again. Great atmosphere. Everything else is lacking.
The bao buns were the best appetizer tried. The drinks were a tad unbalanced and more alcohol heavy than other tiki drinks that I have tried in the past.
Food was ok. No complaints but no wow factor either. It was a slow night and service was slow. No drink refill/order was offered, forks and napkins came a little while after our meals arrived. The teens next to us made us want to leave so we didn t even attempt to order dessert , which I really wanted. I feel like this was an off night so we would definitely have to try it again.
It was a really cool laid back experience here. The rice bowl I got tasted pretty good and with a nice serving size.
Slow, mediocre food.
Got to try this place on Monday and WOW. Short version. GO NOW I m sad at how many times I ve been downtown and haven t taken the time to go in here. Celeste (hope I m spelling that right) was a fantastic server, she knew the food well and had a great personality! You owe it to yourself to try one of the cocktails, the bartender really takes care of you. I wife had the beef bulgogi and I had the chinese chilli dogs but the Brussel sprouts were my favorite part of the meal
I give this a 4.9 friendly service, great food with a unique flavor. I will definitely be back to try some other dishes.
Great vibe, excellent food and cocktails.
Food is wonderful and so are all the unique drinks!! Definitely a place to tryout!!! Great decore!
Kind of a basement tiki bar and the colada drinks not sweet but okay.
Such a chill place to relax and talk! Very good beer!
The star here is the food! Hands down 5 stars, all the way it s the food. The wings General Tso s style- delish. Don t expect typical crispy Buffalo style wings. That s not what these are. But the flavor will rock your palate! We had a table full of items to include the BBQ Pork Belly, Brussel Sprouts, Battleship Curry, Beyond Bangkok (beyond burger that looked like a cheesesteak), a burger (she got it plain) and the Spam Fried Rice. Lots of amazing flavors but the fave for me was the latter. That Spam Fried Rice was fantastic. Who would have thought! Drinks were tasty but took a pretty long time to get to us so we were nervous about ordering apps but went for it anyways. Thankfully the kitchen was moving along and food came out quickly. It wasn t crazy busy when we were there and there appeared to be a lot of staff but they could have had some new staff that were training. The lady that brought our waters in the beginning was on top of it but wasn t our server unfortunately and after that, well the rating is totally for the food! Will definitely visit again. Need those wings and that rice!
We injoy our time and food
The food is absolutely fantastic at Phat Sammys! So tasty and delicious. I didnt drink but my wife loved every tiki drink she had! The Buddhas Delight sandwich is one of the best vegetarian sandwiches Ive ever had. It is Tempeh in a Banh Mi style. So tasty and good! Vegetarian options: The Buddhas Delight sandwich is one of the best vegetarian sandwiches Ive ever had. It is Tempeh in a Banh Mi style. So tasty and good!
This is one of my favorite bars! The vibe is amazing and so are the drinks, food and Staff!!
Food was not good enough for me to come back and eat. The atmosphere and drinks were great. That would be the reason I would come back. But not for the food..
This is such a cool little spot in town. Havent found anything else like it. Its got a neat atmosphere and some really unique, tasty food and drinks. They also always do different drink and food specials during the week and they always look SO good. The ones I have tried were all great.
The ambiance, the food, the uniqueness of this place is usual to find as a Huntsville native. It s very special. And very appreciated by me and all my friends and acquaintances. Thank you Phat Sammy s! Stay weird ;)
Pretty good place for food but the service can be bad - our table was forgotten about and it was awkward trying to wave down another waitress. Overall 5 stars for the vibe and food quality. Recommend coming here for something different!!
How extraordinarily disgusting. And they serve food here
The food was great and the drink I got was reasonably priced and of decent strength. The vibe of this place is unique and hard to describe. We saw drinks being served in spam cans but it s also a tiki bar but it is also Asian inspired? Was a great time and everything was good. I would recommend you go and try to figure out what this place is for yourselves.
First time there. Just stopped in for drinks. Amber and Maggie were phenomenal. Absolutely recommended them.
I ve never been told by a restaurant when ordering a drink they hate making that one, so do you want to pick something else? .but there s a first time for everything and that s exactly what happened last night.
Honestly we stumbled upon this place by accident and we loved it!! The whole place is a vibe. Im very much an introvert and I felt very comfortable here. The staff were very funny and kept everyone happy. Definitely coming back and recommending it to everyone.
The drinks are so much better than they claim. Worth the experience.
Always have fun events like drag trivia nights and shows!
