300 Franklin St SE, Huntsville, AL 35801, United States
Tucked in the corner of Franklin Ave. and Southside Square, Commerce Kitchen is a "cozy downtown neighborhood gem". Chef James Boyce serves up whimsy and comfort paying homage to authentic southern cuisine. The menu features small plates, seasonal entrees, and hand crafted cocktails. Regulars indulge in Fried Green Tomatoes and Pimento Cheese, Harissa Roasted Salmon Bowl, and our famous Shrimp and Grits that will make your southern heart melt!
Me if I took my daughter here for her 27th birthday. I ordered New York strip. The steak was extremely tough with a long piece of griddle. The vegetables were so salty I could not eat them. I ate very little of this $40 meal. I asked the waitress to let the manager know. I specifically told her that I was not asking for a refund, that I only wanted to make the manager aware. I know that some times that variance in quality occur. The manager did not come out to the table, a common customer service courtesy. The waitress relayed that the chef said “my food is not salty”. The waitress was nice but slow in checking back on us. My daughter asked me several times throughout the meal where our waitress was. I would highly recommend spending your money at other restaurants in town with better customer service, Purveyor, The Bottle, Cotton Row.
Wife and I did not have reservations but were able to sit at the bar. We had a Caesar salad, salad wedge, French onion soup and fried green tomatoes, side of mac and cheese. Wife and I both had one bourbon drink. Bartender was attentive and conversational like they are supposed to be. But way over priced for salads, soups, and drinks. Other food looked good.
One of the best Shrimp and Grits I have ever had! I appreciated that they seated us last minute for a Sunday lunch, and the food was still spot on, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was elegant yet inviting! They also have a thoughtful wine list, and the menu is varied, yet not overwhelming.
A well organized and spotless restaurant to take someone for a date or a nice spot to eat with friends and family. Commerce kitchen offers a variety of items which found me wanting to choose all but breakfast especially was on my mind. Service was excellent and the food just as good. I’d recommend the strawberry French toast as that was the highlight of our evening. It’s restaurants like these that I believe get overlooked in HSV and deserve more attention than these bland corporate restaurants.
I recently dined at Commerce Kitchen in Huntsville, and I can't say enough about the exceptional experience. From the moment we walked in, Aiden, the host, greeted us with warmth and hospitality, setting the tone for a wonderful evening. Our server, Jeremy, provided hands-down the best service I've ever received. He made thoughtful menu suggestions and was incredibly attentive throughout our visit, despite the restaurant being packed. Our drinks stayed filled, and the entire staff ensured we felt well taken care of. Commerce Kitchen delivers top-notch service and a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend!
Food was awesome!! Best filet mignon I’ve had . My feet almost froze as the ac blows directly on your feet. Steak Knives need to be sharpened. Service slow…atmosphere is loud but that doesn’t bother me. I’d return…
We ate from the Sunday supper menu that is a fixed price. It was fabulous. The four of us selected very different dishes from the menu and all of them were really good. My favorite part of my meal was the Tres Leches cheesecake. Portions were reasonable, but with appetizers, main course with 3 sides, and finally dessert, we were stuffed. We will definitely be back.
Love the space; sophisticated but cozy. All the staff was welcoming and friendly. Destiny was very knowledgeable in the menu, had great recommendations and answered any questions I had. Food was delicious. Great portion sizes for just me. The braised short rib Ravioli was the perfect size. Destiny recommended the tres leches cheesecake which was delicious. Definitely plan on coming back next time I'm in town.
The service was great, no problems there at all. I like how the booths allow for a little privacy, but the place has some extremely bright lighting, and nothing to dampen sound, and overall has the feel of a diner, which is strange for an upscale dining experience. The food is my main gripe, or really its just oookay. We got four dishes and shared. The porkchop: Nice sear on the outside but overall lacking in flavor and drier than a bone in chop should be. The mac and cheese was also bland, like heavy cream roux without much else. Although it was bacon mac, it was just some bacon bits sprinkled on top, not baked with it to add any real flavor to the mac. The brussel sprouts were the best part. If you want a good bone in chop, go to Domaine South. The Burger: Good. Good burger, nothing to write home about. Very small portion of fries. Australian Wagyu: A nice cut of steak, the sauce on top was good, probably worth the $55. The truffle mashed potatoes were almost just literally smooshed potatoes? They werent creamy or particularly flavorful. Honestly almost watery. The Ravioli: Literally the best thing that we got, it was the only thing I was remotely WOWed by. It was great, but the portion was SO tiny. My dad chose this as his primary entree, and after the rest of us had a small bite, he didnt have much left. As a small female, it wouldnt have been enough for me either. I believe it was like 4 raviolis and some loose meat in the bowl. Cookie a la mode: No complaints, delicious, but Id take any BJs pizookie over it any day. Id give it another try, maybe try some different dishes.
Me and my family went for brunch- we thought the portions were small for the price. And the food was just alright. Maybe dinner is better
Took my daughter, and everything was fantastic. I had the Prime Rib, and she has the coffee crusted sirloin. I have to admit that the Prime Rib was underwhelming, especially for the price.
Great place for Sunday brunch with indoor and outdoor seating options. The shrimp and grits were amazing.
First time in Huntsville! A local gave of suggestion to eat there and it was delicious! Will definitely recommend!
Food was amazing, and the service was excellent! My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary here, and they made it so special!
Never dissapointed at the Kitchen! Choose the cozy dining room or the gorgeous bar, hosted by one of HSVs best bartenders, Katherine. If youre looking for a great time, where they treat you like family, go to Commerce Kitchen!
Fantastic dining experience. Would 10 out of 10 go back again. The short rib ravioli was ah mazing
Food was good, would be better if they had more help , we all had brunch and it was yummy
Incredible! I was in town for work, and Commerce Kitchen had been recommended by a Stewardess on my flight. She was RIGHT! First night, everything was the recommendation of my waitress, Destiny, I had fried green tomatoes, the Chefs special grilled Amberjack, and the Jack Rabbit to drink. Simply amazing, every part of the meal was incredible, so much so that I brought my coworkers back with me the next night! Night two, I relied on Klaires recommendations, I had the fried green tomatoes again, the short rib ravioli, more Jack Rabbits to drink, and the tres leches cheesecake! The Jack Rabbit drinks are a special creation of the bartender, Courtney, and theyre my new favorite drink! I cant wait to be back in Huntsville so I can come back to Commerce Kitchen! UPDATE: I was back in town a year later, and of course, I had to come back to Commerce Kitchen! Cherry Coke braised Brisket with greens and potatoes and a coffee crusted steak. Its absolutely as good as I remember! Ill be back next year!
We stopped going for a while because of poor service. That has been fixed and the last two times we went the service was great! Dietary restrictions: Gluten friendly available.
Lovely spot and well shaded. Wonderful meal and service. A Huntsville must.
Great spot in the heart of downtown Huntsville across from the courthouse. The filet was fantastic. Tonight service was a little slow despite not being at capacity.
Everything was great. The staff was prompt and friendly, the food was fantastic, the small dining room inside was clean and comfortable, and I would highly recommend it.
Awesome food! Kendell was an amazing server! We thoroughly enjoyed our night.
The tables were a bit crowded. Waitstaff was great!
This place is in downtown Huntsville. Pretty cute area and easy to walk. We sat outside as the weather was nice in the evening and it wasnt noisy (except those cicadas). Our server was fantastic! She was on top of everything and super friendly. The food was good. There were 7 of us and we all ordered different things. Mostly good feedback, but some could have been better. Not great, but good enough. I will say, their fried green tomatoes and their chicken bites were both excellent starters. I was excited for the crispy brussel sprouts, but they were just alright. Id try this place again if I were back in the area.
Food wasnt flavorful relative to the price as compared to other upscale southern food restaurants in the Huntsville area.
Food was exceptional. Im not a fan of American and we normally go for Asian or European but this was highly recommended by friends. They did not miss. Great service, some of the best weve ever had. The seating was the only thing Id complain about. It was a little too close for me but I can see why. They need the space because it was popular. Well certainly return but probably be during slow hours. Parking: Theres a lot down the street.
Everything was amazing!!
We had a terrible experience at Commerce Kitchen for dinner. The food was great, but our server was so terrible. She rushed us through every phase of our meal. It was clear she had somewhere else to be. She talked really fast. She asked me so many times if I was done with my entree that in finally just boxed it up so she would stop pestering me. She brought the dessert menu less than ten minutes into our entrees and said no rush and then 4 minutes later came back and said, so have you decided? She brought the check with dessert, and came back twice to see if we d settled the bill. I have never gotten through drinks, appetizer, entree, and dessert is less than 45 minutes before! We stayed and relaxed and talked during dessert despite her behavior, but she really made our meal a rushed experience rather than a leisurely night out.
Our waitress was friendly, though made a point to tell us they werent busy at all and she was bored which left us wondering how so many mistakes were made with our order-not that it was her fault. We ordered the brussel sprouts as a starter. My spouse ordered the prime rib and I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare, mac and cheese instead of green beans and no sauce on the filet. The brussel sprouts never came when our food arrived. The prime rib was okay, lacked flavor though the jus helped. Everything else on his plate was okay. My plate arrived and had the sauce on it that I had requested without. The man who served our order was kind when I told him we were missing our appetizer and that I had asked our waitress for no sauce. He took my order back to the kitchen and while the replacement plate was served quickly, it was served raw, which I found inedible. After these mistakes I gave up on trying to enjoy my meal. The mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were okay, but unfortunately I was too full by the time our appetizer arrived to try it. Staff may be nice but I would not recommend to anyone who is looking for a well cooked meal that is prepared correctly.
The shrimp and grits were the highlight of a lunch visit, but everything else was at least adequate (albeit not exceptional).
Food was good and came out quick. My portion was reasonable and my wife saidnshe had plenty, though I side eyed it. Staff was kind and seemed to enjoy the work. Small dining room though.
Ribeye and prime rib were perfection. Worth it.
Stopped for lunch on our way out of town and wished we had discovered it earlier in our visit. Philly cheesesteak lunch special was excellent. Deviled eggs and fried oysters and peanut butter pie were also very good. Dinner menu looks just as good. Kendele deserves high praise. He was stellar. Very engaging, professional and willing to make a specialty drink (Spanish coffee) that capped off a most enjoyable experience. Well done, Kendele!!! Restaurant was well worth it. Will definitely come back next time in the area. Thanks to all.
Food was great! Our server, Jeremy, was amazing!
Ordered the rib-eye cooked medium. It was raw and everything on the plate was cold. Second try to get it right had the same results - raw center and cold veggies, and took forever. Meal was uneatable and all they offered was a comped desert. The small desert serving was the meal I got for fifty+ bucks. Party of 4 - same meal problem for 2 of us. Other 2 were ok.
5/5! Love it! Will be back! We enjoyed the prime rib special! Parking: Paid street parking Food : 5/5 |
Made reservation for brunch to close out the celebration of my wedding anniversary... great decision! We were greeted warmly and seated in a cozy corner booth. The food, service, and atmosphere did not disappoint. We both ordered the cast iron skillet and eggs with your choice of meat. Who knew it was actually served in a miniature skillet that kept the food quite warm. No pics this time, but I will definitely revisit!
Exceptional! We ate lunch and had the best time sitting at the bar!
Lovely little spot in downtown Huntsville. Food is really good and ingredients are locally sourced. Great service and interesting cocktails.
Enjoy a great meal, friendly service, and a great setting today. Truly a unique and intimate restaurant with a good morning menu and delicious food!
Great meal!! Prime rib was delicious and cooked to perfection, ribeye was cooked perfectly, good flavor. Had the green tomatoes for our appetizer, crispy with a side of pimento cheese.
Went for lunch and had the chicken paillard. The dish was basic and sorta meh for myself. However, the service and atmosphere was nice. Maybe the dinner menu is better.
One of the worst dining experiences of my life. The service was poor. Friendly doesn t always mean they were good. On top of the poor service was the awful food. I wouldn t feed this to my dog. I m not sure if the person in the kitchen is a chef but if so he needs to go back to culinary school. I won t be back this place sucks. I don t recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I came for a quick trip to Huntsville and found Commerce Kitchen online. We popped in for an early dinner and were very pleased with our meal. Our server, Jeremy, was very knowledgeable and nice. My husband had the beef ravioli. It was a perfect sized portion for him and was absolutely delicious. The wine-based sauce was very flavorful. I had the quarter chicken and it was wonderful and tender. Would definitely recommend this place!
Quant, quiet, delicious little spot in the corner of Huntsville. Our server, Kendell, was accommodating and attentive. We got the fried green tomatoes and shrimp angle hair scampi. I also got a gin cocktail with lemon and fresh berries. The food was decadent, fresh, flavorful, and just delectable. This place is a little uncovered gem. I highly recommend!
Loved it! Modern Southern cooking with a hint of fusion. I had the fried Brussels sprouts with ponzu sauce and the seven wonders salad, along with a glass of sparkling rosé. Everything hit my Goldilocks zone - a perfect fry on the sprouts, flavorful sauce and dressing, just the right proportion of ingredients in the salad. The decor and atmosphere were subtle and hip at the same time.
Really good food, nice atmosphere, friendly folks. Fried Green Tomatoes are the best Ive had. The Shrimp and Grits is legendary too. Yesterday I had the Crab Cakes and found them delicious as well. You can spend a lot more at a restaurant if you want but I cant imagine wanting to - it would be hard to improve upon the experience here at any price point.
Great food and service, will definitely go back!
Ive always enjoyed Commerce Kitchen. Nothing too exciting, but always delicious.
Cool place to eat
For a southern restaurant they really should have a higher bar set for their menu... 1. Drinks had almost no flavor, they were flat and disappointing. There was one decent cocktail out of three but the garnish was sour and tasted like soap. 2. Apps were also not amazing. Fried Brussels sprouts were so hard I thought I chipped my front tooth. They werent cut back far enough on the stem and were too hard to easily eat. Fried green tomatoes were okay but some were too green. 3. Entrées. The ravioli was over salted significantly and small for the price, the braised beef on top was very dry. I got the special of the day and it was a tragedy. My first bite I tried one of the potatoes and it was gritty almost like it had dirt on it, the texture was off so I skipped them after my second bite. Then I tried the collard greens and they were crunchy, not cooked correctly at all, the brisket itself looked like dried roast beef. There was nothing enticing about it.
Great Philly steak sandwich
Amazing restaurant right in the heart of Huntsville! The have a great menu and the staff is excellent! Highly recommended!
We dined there on a Sunday evening. They serve a Sunday supper where you choose an appetizer, main, three sides, and a dessert for $45. The table ordered a variety of options (salad, bisuits, fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, salmon, pot roast, fried catfish, brussel sprouts, green beans, and mashed potatoes, tres leches, key lime cheesecake, and skillet cookie). Of course, we sampled each others choices, and everything was delicious. The delivery of the courses was well timed, the staff friendly, and the atmosphere a casual elegance. This was our first time dining here, but it wont be the last!
Celebrated my sons graduation here and was not disappointed. The service was exceptional and the food was over the top. It is a bit pricey but the ambiance, service and quality of the food made it all worth it.
A more down-to-Earth, Southern style of sorta fine dining. I always love everything that comes out of the kitchen, and their cocktails are a treat if youre in the mood. Its overall a more home-like, welcoming version of Cotton Row. Has gotten a bit inconsistent lately with the quality, though. Edit: The inconsistencies have really been an Achilles heel lately. Some days are great while others are filled with relatively bland offerings for the price point.
Loved the experience
Upscale (high prices and small portions) with poor execution.
The food was so nice, we came back twice! Located right in the heart of downtown Huntsville, this modern spot features a cozy, laid-back vibe and a Southern-themed menu thatll appeal to most palates.
I reached out directly to the restaurant via email regarding our experience two weeks ago and have not received a response. I don t believe Google reviews really do much to impact decisions, but go spend your money with another restaurant group. This was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I have had since moving to Huntsville. In a larger city with more and better options, this restaurant probably wouldn t exist.
Everything fresh and have great taste.
A really nice spot in downtown Huntsville. Food was delicious and service was excellent.
Commerce Kitchen never fails me with the menu and food that is served. We had an excellent dinner, quick service, and the wait staff is great.
Great place to get a fat juicy burger if you travelling thru downtown . Keep up the good work guys. :-)
When we travel, we look for places that have a unique menu. CK provided high quality cocktails and food. My pork chop was perfectly done, with flavors that were surprising and comforting at the same time. The mezcal old fashioned was smoky good! And desert? The key lime is a perfect ending. David was our super wait staff.
We sat outside and enjoyed a really good brunch of avocado toast, green tomatoes with pimento cheese, impossible and regular burgers and salmon bowls. All delicious. Service was good ( although the waitstaff were overheard at the bar which had customers seated there complaining about elderly customers and how they made their jobs difficult with the manner in which they ordered food.) That was a bit off-putting as such conversations shouldnt take place in that location. Anyway, overall I would go there even though the waitstaff didnt particularly like the customers. The outside option was great!
Really enjoyed this place, the salmon is amazing,so many flavors!
High end steakhouse prices without the high end steak. I had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, ribeye steak and key lime pie for desert. The key lime pie was tiny and entirely forgetable. The fried green tomatoes were about on par with what Ive had at other restaurants. The steak wasnt terrible but it was a very thin cut and sauced heavily. Way too much pepper and a considerable amount of fat. The food wasnt bad, but certainly not equal to the price. More in line with Longhorn Steakhouse quality than Char or Ruths Chris. Presentation is impresive, but presentation doesnt make the food taste better. The atmosphere wasnt the best. We sat inside at one of the elevated tables in the middle of the room. Kind of felt like we were eating over the folks at adjacent tables. Felt cramped. Reminded me of Cheesecake Factory where youre seated elbow to elbow with adjacent tables. Wasnt neary that bad, but had a similar feel. In all I wasnt all that impressed and at $150 for a dinner for two I certainly wont be hurrying back.
Amazing meal, service & atmosphere...really cant get better quality.
This place was beautiful, good food and great service. We sat outside and got great service. They even provided us with water for our dog. People and pet friendly. Will visit again and recommend.
Everything we ordered was amazing! The waitstaff was wonderful. Very comfortable space with a chill vibe. Nice outdoor seating option as well.
I was seated at the bar as a single and the bartender was attentive, answered all my questions and even recommended a meal. It was my first time there and I will be coming back. The bar area is small, however of it s just you and a friend it s a perfect spot to sit, enjoy a great meal and people watch. I ordered the shrimp and grits so good and the right portion, in addition I ordered the fresh biscuits and they did not disappoint!
Nice restaurant in downtown Huntsville. A variety of quality fare, ranging from prime rib and ravioli, to impossible burgers and craft cocktails. Recommended!
This was not the best spot . Service was great but the food wasnt there. However they do have a great keylime pie. Other than that it was very average food and I had the coffee edged steak or something of the sort. But it was fatty and very poorly cooked. Food lacked seasoning as well. . I wouldnt recommend this place if you are looking for great food.
Good food. The service was great. What more could you ask for. I will stop and eat there again when I am in town.
Went there with a large group from work (~14 people). I know large groups are challenging on both the front and back of the house, so Im cutting a little slack. I ordered a fish special of the day. The food was served hot and visually appealing. The fish was extremely salty, and overcooked and rubbery at the edges. The overcooked edges are just part of getting 15 meals out at the same time, but no excuse for the overpowering saltiness. We only had a single waitress (though I counted 3 working, bad management call for not assigning help to our waitress). Everyones order was accurate. My water never got refilled, and I was never asked if I wanted another drink. Shame, because the bartender was excellent. Id go back, but next time with a smaller group, and sticking to the standard menu.
This was a mixed experience. The pork chop and friend green tomatoes with pimento cheese were good. The rest of the food was ok. The bartender worked diligently and was very nice. However, the rest of the experience was below expectations. When we arrived, wait staff all seemed to be chatting instead of focusing on customers. A few times, you could hear them discussing issues and making fun of a staff member. The bartender ended up helping us between making drinks despite us having reservations and not sitting at the bar. My husband s shoes stuck to the floor when he went to the restroom. The overall score from the health department was a 72. I m not sure what the low health rating was about (could be reasonable things) but the overall experience was just meh.
We had an amazing dinner and then saw Shen Yun. We had the snapper yum yum. Nathan was very helpful. Loved the convenience to the show afterward. Amazing!!
Totally unexpected experience. Enjoyed everything about this restaurant. Will definitely go back.
Wish ib could review the food but we sat down and were left alone for nearly 30 minutes, there were many groups at and served after we sat down. This is unexceptable.
My husband and I went here for brunch on the weekend. I have to say I am rather disappointed in the entire experience. Our waiter was not attentive at all. We had to ask another waiter for butter, syrup, and drink refills. We both ordered the same thing 3 eggs with the souffle pancakes and bacon. The best thing was the bacon. The eggs were all vlcooked hard and very tiny. Lastly, the souffle pancakes are just really thick pancakes. Not light and airy like a souffle of any kind should be. We had high expectations for this place, and were let down the whole way around. We will not be returning. Parking: It is a busy area and street parking is hard to find. You may have to walk a block or two.
Always a yummy stable choice, my favorite restaurant in HSV. Ideally eat out doors in the shade of a warm Alabama day. I love the small cozy atmosphere inside. Advice If they have a cold water fish special get it ! But most everything is great Parking: Park anywhere you can on The. street in the area depending on how much u like to troll
Food was delicious, service was highly accommodating and friendly, and the atmosphere was charming and relaxing. One of our favorite restaurants in Huntsville! We recommend going for the Sunday supper.
Jeremy is the best server and makes our experience at Commerce phenomenal every time. We love the filet, but have tried the burger and salmon before. We re big fans of the cookie skillet and a scoop of ice cream. The old fashion is *chef s (bartender s)kiss*. Cheese board is on the average side, which is slightly disappointing, but overall what you pay for. Commerce is our #1 go to spot for all celebrations.
Had dinner here for New Years. Great place!
One of the best gems in huntsville. Gotta try the fried Greek tomatoes, biscuits and shrimp and grits.
I had dinner here with the food club I m a part of (M + M Network). The food was top notch. The vibe of the restaurant was like nothing I ve seen for a meat and 3. It s giving very much luxury comfort food! I will be back with more friends!
It is my first time here, and place is AMAZING. I really love their filet mignon. It taste sooo good. The steak melts in my mouth, it is so juicyyy and flavorful. If only I can have it everyday, NO KIDDING. I also had the avocado toast and few drinks, it was great. The whole experience is definitely worth for 5 stars. I am totally going back here.
My experience there was not what I expected. Me and my best friend had a reservation. The hostess was nice and sat us. The waiter came over and poured us water and that was it. We waited a long period of time for our drinks. The area we were seated at in the corner was very dusty on the back part of the seat. There was a piece of hair on the menu and the glasses were a bit dusty looking too. When we got up to tell them we were leaving, magically the drinks were ready. I was already past disgusted. I felt we werent treated right. All the other servers were going to the other tables surrounding us but its as if we werent there. If thats how youre supposed to be treated with a reservation, I dont want that ever again. The one star is strictly for the nice hostess and the gentleman who poured my water which I did not drink. Worst experience for a first timer. Highly recommend to NOT visit this place especially if youre big on cleanliness.
Charcuterie board is lunch meat. Sent my first steak back due to being way over cooked. It was my first time and won t likely be back. PS it was my birthday dinner so super disappointed
4-12-23 We are visiting from New Jersey. Were looking for a truly southern food experience! We truly found it in Commerce Kitchen! The food was amazing, delicious, and uniquely Southern! Our best part was our delightful server, Klaire! She recommended some faves (which were perfect!) and was so friendly in her conversations with us. It was my daughters birthday so when my daughter ordered dessert she wrote a happy Birthday on the plate!! The manager of the evening was super wonderful to w by taking the time to come say hi to us! I highly recommend this place for some delicious eats and atmosphere!! Thank you, Klaire!!
Met a friend for lunch and it was perfect! A great seat in the light of a beautiful sunny day- we ordered and it was beyond expectations. The staff were friendly and welcoming, professional and not intrusive. My crispy chicken sandwich was amazing and the aioli, sweet potato fries did not disappoint! This sammy was made with love- the fresh tomato, lettuce and cheddar cheese all had a place in this creation. My friend had the shrimp and grits which always please any craving. I am taking time to review as I have avoided this place for about a year after a very rude manager showed himself to not care- that has been completely replaced with star crew and food!
I order the salmon with rice with veggies. The portion was small, the salmon was salty and dry. The rice was flavorless and the veggies, well, I found 2 tiny cubes of yellow squash, 3 small pieces of onion incorporated with the rice. The only thing I like was the coffee.
GREAT EATERY! THE OUTSIDE view of downtown was just what was needed to enjoy the scenery. So great food and awesome scenery allow for a great evening. I had the greens and pork chop, and it was just what the doctor ordered. But, if you want surgery, the shrimp and grits were extraordinary
Even though I am a local , this is the first time I had been to Commerce Kitchen, I ordered the street Tacos and they had a very good taste , but not much chicken on them . The service and atmosphere were excellent. The prices are a little high after tip my lunch was $27.00. But saying that I will go back . PJV
Great food and great service. It does tend to get loud so just be aware if youre looking for a quiet dining experience.
Sunday Supper was superb!
Laid back vibe with tremendously great food and service. High high high recommend for thus little gem
I took my two sisters and sister-in-law to breakfast here to give them a Southern Hospitality experience . . . and Commerce Kitchen delivered it by the bushel full! As soon as we arrived we were greeted at the door and shown to our booth. Then when Conor, our server came to our table, I could tell my sisters and sister-in-law were charmed and delighted with him. Conor not only gave us wonderful recommendations but he also joked with us, and kept us amused. We started with the loaded deviled eggs which was sooo good! I ordered the Gulf shrimp and grits (shrimp cooked perfectly and the grits made with white cornmeal!), my sisters split the fried green tomato Benedict, my sister-in-law the granola-crusted French toast. All entrees were superb and lip-smacking and when I take my husband there for brunch, hell order the Benedict and Ill order the French toast. Conor, thank you for making our brunch so delightful and giving my family a taste of Southern Hospitality! You and the staff at Commerce Kitchen helped make my wedding weekend a more delightful experience!!
They always have a wonderful menu served by a great staff! Still loves this place but was very disappointed with the Mothers Day meal. The chicken and waffles plate was disappointing. Id swear the chicken fingers ( not breasts) came out of a Tysons bag Food
Arrived last Monday and the guy at the hostess stand was rude. I asked for a table and he refused. He said I could sit in the bar, when I said I dont drink he replied you dont have to drink. He was rude. I reluctantly sat at the bar and the only saving grace was the service that I received from Raven the bartender. She was great and did an outstanding job. She was skilled in hospitality and customer service. If youre a woman traveling on business alone, I dont recommend this restaurant. If you go for drinks, ask for Raven!
Great food and great service. Red snapper was impeccable.
Pros: our server was fantastic Cons: daughter ordered a filet that had a large amount of grizzle. Showed it to server. Got a new filet which was really rare (vs. the medium she ordered). The second one was a bit better as far as fat (she took it home and cooked it the rest of the way). In between the two steaks, the chef told the server who then shared with us that the steak was marbled. Her and I (an adult male with a moderate amount of strength) both had a hard time cutting the first steak and we both have had numerous fillets from different HSV establishments. Also - every bit of our food was lukewarm. Probably not going back.
Food and service were great
Great brunch! Really enjoyed everything we got and the water bowl for our fury friend
Nice brunch options with a good atmosphere. The granola french toast paired well with a side of sausage and eggs. The server was quick and attentive.
Ordered takeout from Commerce and got the Crispy Chicken Club with Sweet Potato fries and a sweet tea. Get the remulade on the side if you don t like a spicy, almost vinegary tasting sauce. Overall, with the sauce on the side, the sandwich and sweet tea were incredible. Sweet tea was one of the best southern sweet teas I ve had. The sweet potato fries, not so much. Very soggy and a bit flavorless. Take out was fast and took less than 20 minutes. 4 out of 5 for the whole experience.
We had a great meal here! Destiny was great and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the fried green tomatoes which were absolutely delicious, as were the Filet Mignon and the Salmon. I will say the mac and cheese was underwhelming, so I would not recommend that. But besides that we had a wonderful experience here and would recommend this restaurant.
Outdoor seating in the downtown. Excellent food. Loved the fried green tomatoes.
Exceptional food and service
Great place to experience southern brunch. Nice outside dining area where you can also bring your dog.
Delightful place. My son and I ate outside on the cafe sidewalk. Nice atmosphere, friendly servers, food Fantastic!
Had a petty good brunch here on a whim while in Huntsville. I definitely recommend trying it out. The atmosphere is petty nice; if your kids are really little or have behavior issues, get a sitter before coming. Kid-friendliness: Leave the littles at home.
Exceptional food, service, and atmosphere
Commerce Kitchen is one of a kind. The food and service are above standard. If youre new to the area or need a new place to try, Commerce Kitchen is where its at.
My husband and I love Commerce! Best meals, love the bar area, and fun drinks! Oh don t forget to try the brunch - it s bomb!
Our overall experience was not a pleasant one. When we arrived our waitress came to our table within 10 minutes of our being seated. Took our appetizer and drink order. I ordered a cocktail and my wife a soda due to her being pregnant. My cocktail arrived within 5 minutes, appetizer took roughly 15 minutes. My wife s soda took almost 25 minutes to get. We placed our order shortly after the appetizer arrived. We both order filet mignon s. Another 20 minutes passed and the entrees arrived. Only they were the wrong ones. They gave us ribeyes instead of the filets we ordered. Overall it was not a good experience. We will not be dining here again.
Place is very very loud. Waited about 25 minutes to receive a diet coke, our appetizer was incorrect and when we finally got our mains we both had ribeyes instead of the filets we ordered.
Nice little place with good atmosphere. The food is a little pricey, but it was delicious and the service from our server, Crystal, was impeccable. She was quick, accurate, and made sure we felt taken care of, despite it being a little busy.
Awesome place for a business lunch. The shrimp and grits were great, too!
One of the best places for lunch in Northern Alabama. A MUST stop!
Really had a good time here. Our server was nice and the restaurant had this nice old time family feel to it. Kinda hard to explain but me and my wife enjoyed our meal. I had the prime rib which was delicious disappointed I didnt get the Mac and cheese side I asked for but hey they were busy. My wife got the ravioli which see said she enjoyed even though the portion could have been larger. All in all an amazing time.
Nice looking restaurant and good service, but the food was average at best.
I came here for dinner with my boyfriend on a Friday night. We shared 3 appetizers (French onion soup, crab cakes and the oysters), 2 main courses (chef s special red fish and the Friday prime rib special) and a dessert (Tahitian vanilla crème brûlée). Everything was outstanding. The French onion soup was the best I ve ever had and the red fish was a stand out. The food came out quickly, everything was plated beautifully and tasted extremely delicious. The attention to detail and flavor pairings are next level. This is by far the best food I ve had in Huntsville. There must be a special mention for our waiter, Jeremy, who made this a next level dining experience. He was unbelievably kind, thorough, attentive and professional. This establishment is lucky to have him. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We can t wait to come back!
Stumbled on this place had a beer and decided to have dinner as well. Wonderful service, food was excellent, had the Ahi salad, oysters and the tacos. Also ordered a burger as they looked excellent, but decided to share one, the waitress was paying attention, and the burger came on two different plates, sliced in half, nice touch. The area itself is lovely as well. Recommend.
Had the Brunch menu on Saturday. Ordered the Roasted Salmon Bowl. It was the best. I ordered mine medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. The Jasmine Rice was perfect. The sauce was very good. The whole dish was awesome. 2 thumbs up!
I am genuinely unsure of how Commerce Kitchen has such good reviews. Ive heard people rave for years about it, and finally came. What a waste of money. The coffee crusted new York strip was a mediocre piece of meat with no flavor. I ordered my steak medium rare, and it was medium well at best. Somehow, the potatoes were both soggy and undercooked. My wifes pork chop was dry and poorly seasoned. We were seated outside and forgotten about. Will be steering clear of their other restaurants cotton row, pane vino and grille on main.
Food was great, service was fantastic, but the AC was broken when we arrived. And the entire restaurant, staff especially, were sweating and hot. I would love to return, although the restaurant shouldve informed us of the issue since we had our reservation days in advance.
Enjoyed a pretty easy early Saturday evening dining experience. The service was pleasant and appropriate. If youre in the mood for a quick Italian meal, this place is worth a try.
Attentive service, interesting take on old standards. Delicious cheeseburger, with a bun that holds up until the last bite. The cobb salad is a little on the skimpy side. The only real negative is the warehouse like noise level when the place is busy. If you are on a date, you can speak closely into each others ears. When you have a party of four or six or more, good luck hearing anyone across the table. Best eat outside if the weather is nice and you want to chat.
The shrimp and grits cannot be beat. Not cliche, nicely done.
One of the best meals we have had in a long time. It was my girlfriends birthday and she was impressed. Our appetizer was the fried green tomatoes and they were delicious. We had the ribeye and the pork chops for dinner and both were amazing. For dessert we shared a key lime pie...yummmmmm. We sat at a high top in the bar area and because we are people watchers, I think its the best seat in the house. Sarah, was our server and also the bartender. Very attentive and made an amazing cosmo and espresso martini. Very upscale but casual restaurant for a date night or just dinner out.
Very nice atmosphere and the layout of the restaurant was welcoming. I was referred to the restaurant from a person in town that spoke highly of commerce kitchen. MY EXPERIENCE: We arrived about 50 minutes before closing so I didnt feel we put the people in the kitchen in a bad spot as far as closing things down for the night. Part of our food came out Luke warm for about 5 people which was definitely odd. They kindly offered to replace the parts of our order that we were dissatisfied with. There are some things I want to double back on to see if my next experience is better. However this first go around as I checked with my family wasnt what we were expecting totally. It wasnt a totally negative experience just not what we were expecting at the price point we paid.
Enjoyable dinner with a few friends. I ordered the filet mignon. It was good. Ive had the filet at Purveyor, Grille on Main, and several other places around town and this was on par with those. They are alll managed by James Boyce so it makes sense. These are some of the best restaurants we have in Huntsville for dinner dining.
Great food! Expensive get readt
Chill Environment
We arrived at the tail end of lunch service and had wonderful food and service. Our waiter was a delight! Parking: We parked up the street near a residential area. It was mid-afternoon on Thursday and parking was plentiful.
Food was delicious, service was fantastic. Go on a beautiful day and sit outside and people watch. Its a cant miss place for a quick bite.
I desperately want to be leaving a good review here, instead here s what I found to be disappointing. Ran out of typical Sunday brunch drinks after 2 hours of service, portion sizes were inconsistent with pricing, food was just good. Maybe I have unrealistic expectations? $18 for braised short rib sounds fair, but was mostly potatoes, a pinch of short rib and the demi glaze barely covered the meat. For brunch, we had the breakfast burrito - pretty good. Skillet - pretty good. Braised short rib - disappointing portions.
Delicious meal. Excellent service. The Hot fried chicken bits were excellent! The atmosphere was fantastic. We would definitely return.
Beautiful morning for breakfast outside after church. Excellent downtown location. Wonderful cuisine.
I was a first time customer so I ordered the Thursday special catfish. It was delicious. The service was great. They carried a local brewery IPA so that was a bonus to the experience. Definitely have to put this place on my rotation of local eateries.
I thought the food was just okay. The crab cakes were not good. The service was outstanding though.
Stopped in for the Sunday night supper menu. I have to say, I thought the selections were quite impressive and was pleased with the price. After the waiter clarified that the appetizers were shared by the table, and you pick an individual entree, and each person selects 3 sides, and a dessert, I was astounded. They offered all of this for $40. In a time when you can barely get through the golden arches for $40, they are offering top quality meals, and service. Get out of that drive-thru line and get to Commerce Kitchen. Dietary restrictions: Well informed on Gluten Free options
Just an awesome place. Our waiter was so attentive?
Such a cute and upscale restaurant. I had the shrimp and grits, and it was delicious. The steak was mouth watering and the crab cakes were perfect. Definitely get the chocolate torte and lemon drop martini to round out the meal.
This was our I get it because it was very busy, we were lucky to have somewhere to sit. The second time we made reservations and ended up sitting outside anyway because the weather was nice. Not nearly as busy and we saw our waitress twice. We both asked for grits instead of bacon and we got the smallest portion of grits I have ever seen. A baby would have been upset with this tiny ramekin of grits. Then there was no butter on the pancakes and forget finding your waitress to ask for whatever you needed. I know this place is a little hoity-toity but we still deserve to have great service for the price you pay for breakfast. For anyone going for the first time, DO NOT SUBSTITUTE! Just get what is on the menu, ask for everything you could need while placing your order, and enjoy a wonderful meal.
Me and my wife came to Commerce Kitchen for an anniversary dinner and it was exquisite. We had the fried green tomatoes, filet mignon, and the skillet cookie. All three were delicious and the steak was cooked PERFECTLY. The service was amazing, he knew a ton about the dishes, and made sure to check in at appropriate times. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get a nice dinner in Downtown Huntsville!
A restaurant with good service, food, and overall experience! Definitely a go-to place for when you are in Huntsville. A variety of delicious entrees to choose from, side dishes, starters, desserts, and wine as well.
Love this place! Service, food and location.
My in-laws came into town for my husbands birthday and we decided to celebrate with a nice dinner here at Commerce. We are new in town and this was recommended to me. We loved the atmosphere, service, and food. Unfortunately, I was told the cheesecake had no nuts as I have a severe allergy. I am always very careful and double check just in case because it can be life or death. Turns out, the cheesecake does have nuts in it (I never confirmed if it was walnuts or pecans), but I found out by finding some in the whipped cream surrounding the cake. Our server apologized and offered to bring another dessert but at that point I already needed to leave ASAP to get medical care. I ended up spending a few hours in the ER last night, all is well but I just had to note that staff needs to be trained better for these types of things. I completely understand that they don t make the food, but checking with the kitchen is better than assuming it doesn t have it based on if it looks like it does or not. Would love to come here again in the future but our experience yesterday was subpar.
Really disappointed considering commerce was number 1 of TripAdvisor. The pulled pork was better at Bristol Motor Speedway than here. Seating for 5 was pretty bad. Service was really slow Just overall disappointed.
We had a beautiful and delicious time! Our server, Jeremy, was fantastic! Very attentive and personable.
Great food.
We went and had a reservation. They sat us down and told us our waiter would be with us in a minute. We waited for 30 minutes and nobody even came and took our drink order. Other people were being sat beside us and they took their drink and food orders. There was only 2 other tables seated with people in the whole place so it was not busy. We eventually just decided to leave because they never even took any of our orders. All the workers saw us and stood there not doing anything while we clearly had not been served.
We love this place! The staff was welcoming & our server, Kay, was the absolute best! The steak and the flourless chocolate dessert were delicious! Cozy, romantic atmosphere with views of the beautiful Twickenham district~
We came here my wife, 13 month of son, and myself for my birthday. The staff was amazing and made sure we were comfortable. I know having a toddler at the table was probably not ideal for them but our waiter Paul was so nice and never once made us feel uncomfortable. The food was wonderful, I recommend the NY strip and the key lime pie or crème brûlée for dessert!
Great date night! The food and service was spectacular!
Food and staff are top notch, cant wait to eat here again.
Outstanding! We were driving through and spent the night in Huntsville. We discovered Commerce Kitchen and plan to return again next year!
Collin was our server, and he was perfect. He was sweet, funny and very attentive. The food was beyond amazing! The desserts and cocktails were so tasty!
The food is good. Not outstanding though. It doesn t leave me wanting to come back for more. However the staff is great and I have no problems eating there if others want too.
I really love the quality of food and service, the atmosphere is pleasurable with outdoor & indoor seating. This my fifth or sixth time to dine here, and Brunch on the weekends (including Sunday) is my favorite time at the Commerce Kitchen. PS. Ask for Kay . to serve you and your dining guests, exceptional service Parking: There are paid and free options available Kid-friendliness: Family friendly
Great experience. Loved the decor, great food, and service.
This is not my first time at CK and I always leave more than happy with every aspect of the meal. Service is always on point! Chef s offerings are fantastic and always well paired. Bar service and selection is upper tier. Commerce Kitchen is a repeat stop every time I m in Huntsville!
Shrimp and grits are delicious!!! Key lime pie delicious!!!! Great service!!! Highly recommended!
In a nutshell, this restaurant is just ok. It has a good atmosphere but the food, drink, and staff left a lot to be desired for. The server (I cannot remember her name) didn t smile the entire time she served us. We asked her for recommendations and she recommended an item someone at our table could not eat due to a food allergy. We told the server about it, but she clearly didn t listen because she recommended it again on the next visit to our table. When we told her again she immediately recommended the filet (most expensive thing on the menu). The server also told me their new specialty blueberry bourbon cocktail had well bourbon in it. Last I checked, I m not in some college bar drinking $5 well cocktails. Im not factoring this into my rating, I just thought it was funny. The food was presented well but the flavor was not great. I ended up ordering the New York strip, which had a weird coffee/espresso drizzle on it. Not my favorite, at all. There s no way they are using prime steaks because mine was full of gristle and did not taste very good and was not tender. Finally, someone in our party accidentally left a baby blanket in the restaurant. When we went back to get it turns out a server, for some unknown reason, threw it outside in the alley way, instead of putting it at the front. You can t even make this stuff up. His excuse was, well homeless people sometimes come by so sorry, please don t be offended. Save your time, go somewhere else.
The brussel sprouts were the only good thing we had. The New York strip was below average. The Ahi Tuna salad was okay. The Creme brulee was okay. The prices didnt match the quality of food, unfortunately. Unlikely that we would return.
I have mixed feelings about this place. I made a reservation for our anniversary and they didn t live up to the expectation. We went for Sunday Supper, and I have to say that the price for the amount and quality of food is pretty great. We both enjoyed our meals! I specifically recommend the collard greens - they re fantastic! However, the service was severely lacking. For $45/head I was expecting much more. Unfortunately, we were seated at a table the size of a napkin in the dead center of the crowded dining room. With the bright lights on, it felt like we were extras on a movie set. The atmosphere really turned it off for me. Our server came by to take our order and deliver our plates and that was it. They also ran out of our selected desert at 6:45pm. I was not expecting that - especially with a set menu. Finally, I was disappointed that they didn t even do a little something special since I noted on our reservation that it was our anniversary. I ve worked in a similar upscale restaurant, and it is somewhat expected that they at least mention it. These complaints could be just unfortunate mishaps, but it left much to be desired.
Always a great experience here. Servers are friendly, food is always done right, and prices are reasonable. Great place for dinner with friends visiting from out-of-town. Makes for a positive Huntsville experience.
Fantastic food and super staff
It was awesome. Food was great and had an awesome waiter. Will be going back.
Unique southern kitchen. Favorite spot for locals. Excellent brunch.
Food was delicious! Service excellent!
Food was just ok.
