Refined surf 'n' turf place at Deerhurst Resort emphasizing local ingredients (open May–Oct).
We wanted to recreate our previous experience when we had enjoyed a tomahawk steak at the Antler Steakhouse with our two grandsons and their parents but we weren't disappointed when we were told that the restaurant was out of tomahawks and that we would need to pick another cut of steak. The boys had a 7 oz striploin and the adults selected a variety of 8 and 10 oz cuts, along with brussels sprouts and mac and cheese sides. Along with a couple of shared starters and desserts, we had an amazing meal, with exceptional service by Christine for just over $100 per adult, including tax and tips. If you like steak, you'll definitely enjoy The Antler Steakhouse at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario, Canada.
An exceptional experience, beginning with accommodating our party despite a large group event that evening, to warmly greeting us at the door. Excellent service all around and an elegant yet casual atmosphere. From appetizer to dessert, the food was consistently well prepared and delicious, especially the 50oz tomahawk steak, grilled perfectly and ample enough to share between 4 adults with sides. A memorable evening and one to be repeated the next time we visit Huntsville.
The food was very good! I really enjoyed my meal here. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We dined with two young kids so I always appreciate when the service is accommodating of children, like bringing their food earlier, providing colouring sheets or just being nice to them in general. The food itself was great. I ordered the bone marrow appetizer and a steak and lobster dinner. I quite enjoyed both! The location was farther from the resort but the shuttle made it easy to get there. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Deerhurst.
Antler is a fairly upscale/classy restaurant compared to the others at Deerhurst resort. Food was very pricy $60+ for a steak with some mediocre vegetables… everything is extra cost… so keep in mind if you want fries with your steak that’s extra. It’s a nice atmosphere and the service/wait staff were very attentive and caring. Unfortunately the cost of the meal over shadowed the rest of the experience. Be ready to spend over $150 for two people easily…. My wife even said to me as we left, “it all tasted great, but you’ve cooked better food for a fraction of the cost” I guess that’s the day and age we live in now…. $80 for a 12oz New York strip loin…
We came here for a large group dinner. I ordered the Cedar Planked Hokkaido Scallops Carbonara. It was soo beautifully presented and soo perfectly cooked, I could eat this every time I come here. The rest of my friends got steaks of various sizes and types and were equally happy with their choices. I heavily recommend this restaurant to everyone that has a chance to come here. Expensive but soo well worth it!!!
A cozy upscale restaurant on Deerhurst resort, reservations recommended. The food is good and very filling - maybe that's because we got the cheese fondue to share before having more heavy items but no regrets. We had a good time with the scallop pasta and steak and took a bit of what remained to go. Drinks were decent as well. Overall nothing really mindblowing, but a good stop if you're at the resort to celebrate something special given it is pretty pricy.
Wonderful meal. Food and service was great. By far the best restaurant at Deer Hurst Resort. Everything was well seasoned and prepared perfectly. If you don't want steak, I had the braised short rib, I would recommend it. I also hear that the onion soup is excellent. This one is on the pricey side so check the menu before you go to make sure it's in your price range. Well worth it if you are looking to treat yourself.
We didn’t expect much from this restaurant so it did meet our expectations. Even though the staff is super friendly and professional, the food is ordinary but we had to pay over $250 for one dish each. One of them was from the kids menu, the prices of which we find high. It’s good for some special occasion, so we do recommend it. But don’t expect too much, and be ready to pay a high bill.
This place is way overpriced and portions are very small next time we will go into town and spend our money at chucks instead.
Service was choppy. Birthday dinner booked but was absolutely nothing special presented by the hosts. I appreciate the fact that when I told our server that the food was okay that she checked in again to see if I was alright. She sought to rectify it by substituting the dish but by then I had been filled up by the surrounding food on the plate. However, the steak itself (this place bread and butter so to speak) was wayyyy overdone for a medium rare steak. It tasted burnt and not much else. At this point, would not recommend given the price and level of food and service. Youre better off getting a steak at Montanas.
Amazing meal at Antler. Lobster Friday was such a wonderful evening. Our server Jen was so personable, knew exactly when to check in, and professional. Smart lady! All the servers were working so hard and hustling all throughout the restaurant. Great experience!
Porterhouse steak was amazing, my husband loved the wild mushroom soup, my son loved the bone marrow. Christine the server was charming and kind. Our favourite dinner this summer, highly recommend
Had a amazing time spent for our anniversary. Thank you!
First time dining at the Antler Steakhouse and was very happy with the service and dinner. Portions were generous and the steaks were great. Reservations are recommended. Would go again.
A cozy atmosphere with live music, efficient and welcoming hostess, and very kind and helpful servers. We asked for halal menu options and they had halal steak and were able to adjust the halibut so it didn t have the chicharron dust. Our server answered all our questions with patience and good cheer and made us feel very well taken care of.
Parking: I have mobility problems but do not yet require a wheelchair however negotiating the hill back up to the parking lot after dinner was quite a challenge as it was quite steep towards the top. The meal was absolutely delicious! The Caesar salad was really good and the rack of lamb was simply the best ever. My compliments to the chef for a wonderful dining experience. I was also very impressed with our waitress who was very knowledgeable about the items on the menu and really attentive to our needs. But I was disappointed in the decor which was quite dull and uninspiring and while the entertainer was very good unfortunately the music was so loud that it made conversation extremely challenging. Having said this, I found that the excellence of the meal compensated for the detriments so I would most definitely will return. But please, please turn the music down!
I would give this restaurant a 0 if I could. No customer service and full on liars. I drove an hour and a half on my birthday to go to this restaurant, the address given continued to take us to the resort. The front desk at resort were nice and gave us the proper instructions. The host said that we were 20 minutes late and we no longer have a table. She even added that the number that was given was incorrect and they called Jennifer . I use open tables 3 times a week and the number on the account is CORRECT. Waste of time and gas. Thanks a lot
I honestly wish I could rate this better than I can. I went for my birthday dinner both my husband and myself. We both had the bison steak. His was so full of pepper that you couldn t even taste the steak and really hard to cut Mine on the other hand didn t have as much pepper so I got the taste and still difficult to cut. Wayyyy too much fat on it. Lowest quality of meat you can get but premium price. I wasn t enamoured with it for the price, a nice rib eye steak tastes far better. The waitress was slow and she couldn t even make a cappuccino properly. Won t be back. For the price paid. I d rather go elsewhere and have a far better experience
Food is good, but all the drinks are watered down or full of ice. Pulled out a whole soup bowl worth of ice from an alcoholic drink. Were told the drinks are just made like that
We recently had the opportunity of eating at the Antler Steakhouse and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special and welcomed. We will definitely be back if we are ever in the area. Thank you!
Highly recommend this steakhouse. The best we have ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection! Desiree makes this restaurant run smoothly out front while chef Rachel is a master at what she does. Shout out to Christine for being so good at her job. We will definitely be back again. Thanks for a wonderful night!
A big shoutout to Desiree Bain! My friend had an allergic reaction at the restaurant and Desiree was amazing dealing with the situation. We are all so grateful for her being there at the right time
If you were the teenage boy with a white shirt and fluffy brown hair that was at the restaurant with his family and playing with his little siblings, after a dance competition in Deerhurst and made eye contact with a girl with light curly hair and a white shirt and black pants, on the evening of May 21st 2023 please add my snap c_downs11
A fab spot for a special dinner, food, atmosphere and service all top notch!!
This is a fantastic little restaurant. The food was imaginative, visually appealing and delicious. The menu is modest, which was appropriate for the level of detail in creating the dishes. We tried nearly everything - perhaps excessive - but truly enjoyable. Service was lovely and friendly and prompt. There was a live musician covering popular mellow songs and it felt spacious. Nicely done, Deerhurst. Thanks chef and staff!
Antler steakhouse is a beautiful restaurant in a traditional log building surrounded by nature. I really enjoyed dinner there during my stay at the Deerhurst Resort the weekend of June 16th. Food was delicious and service very professional, competent and friendly. Definitely looking forward to dine at Antler again.
What a great meal; our server Tristen was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about our food choices. We will be back.
Our 32nd anniversary and we went all out 2 apps and 2 mains all 4 were delicious, the food was outstanding. Our server Christine was amazing and very friendly. They surprised us with an anniversary dessert which was also awesome. Very friendly and rustic (Muskoka) atmosphere. Weve eaten at very high end restaurants all over rhe world and this one may be the best weve ever eaten at.
The food is fantastic. The cabin restaurant is unique and memorable. The lower star rating is primarily for service. While our server was friendly, her service lacked key elements which are expected at this level of dining. I hope the restaurant reads this and aims to improve service levels. That is equally part of the whole dinning experience.
Ambiance, food and service were fine plus a super singer gave ton of energy. BUT, we had hairs in all our main meals. Did not mention it at this stage - did not want to bring more trouble to a good moment with family. When we saw hairs in the deserts, we said enough and considered it had to be mentioned. All we had in return was suspicion of lying from the room manager - for what? We did not want any rebate. Just some apologies, nothing more. Apologies never went to us. Just a « we offer the desert » which we refused. Last thing I want as a client is when someone wants to buy my dissatisfaction with money. Overall, very bad customer experience. Will be a bad souvenir. All the staff was very professional, except this lady.
My wife and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with dinner at the Antler. We had a wonderful evening. Everything was perfect. The food, service and atmosphere were excellent. Special thanks to our waiter Allen who provided us with top notch service.
The food was okay. The atmosphere is great. The issue we had was with our server. She barely made an effort, and a salad and fries and one entree took an hour to get to our table. We stayed at the restaurant for two hours, instead of one because of slow, terrible service. Fries were lukewarm and not fresh. What shocked us was that when we were cashing out. Without being told verbally or prompted by the machine, there was a 15 percent gratuity added onto the total amount to pay, when the server handed us the machine. Then, after accepting the amount with the tip included (unknowingly), we were asked to add another 15, 20, 25, 30 as the formal tip. We ended up tipping 35 percent because of this sneaky trick by the server. We checked the receipt after we left , and nowhere on the receipt did it say that there was a gratuity already included. We felt this practice was not okay and urge others to double check when paying their bill.
Really is it that difficult to offer a veggie burger during dinner hours that s on the lunch menu? Family spent $600+ there on a meal and all I could eat was random sides and bread. The previous year they made a veggie burger no problem. Ridiculous. Get a vegan option. Portobello mushroom, anything.
Once again, Food was mediocre. Its an overpriced restaurant selling food that doesnt live up to the price. My $99 rib steak was paper thin with a huge eye, it looked as if it was steamed and someone drew grill lines on it with a sharpie marker. No char on it at all. They should be ordering thicker cuts with smaller eyes. Its basically something you would find at No frills or Fresh Co for 10 bucks. Au gratin potatoes were lacking cheese and undercooked, again, no browning on top simply potatoes swimming in creme. Our server was great but food stunk . Seems that the Maple pub is the only half decent food at DEERHUST! Dont waste your money here!
Lunch was really good. Good. Burgers.
If you frequent steak houses in big cities this is going to be a big disappointment very bland food the Caesar salad has some hardened cheese monstrosity on it which throws off then entire dish they drop a tenderloin a Demi-glace what is this 1985? Just an outdated, underwhelming experience
The restaurant manger was rude and unwelcoming telling us we were late for a 7:00 reservation that was actually reserved for 8:00 then went on to tell us she had a bad day telling us we had a bad attitude when all the while she could accommodate us again telling us we had a bad attitude we were a party of 7 and are owners and have been owners for 25 years and we were completely embarrassed in front of our guests with this hostess horrible greeting of our party her name is Desiree. I will be putting a negative review on every social media network advising people not at Antlers and feel the way we were treated by such a negative person in a service position . It s too bad because the food and servers were great.
Our evening had been planned well in advance. Dinner at The Antler Steakhouse at Deerhurst Resort. Although we have owned a condominium for well over 20 years at the resort and consider it our second home we had never been toThe Antler Steakhouse. We were entertaining family on Labour Day weekend, booked our meal on line. We left a message to please confirm the reservation with a call. We never did receive the call. I went into the restaurant 2 weeks prior to make sure we were booked because we hadn t been confirmed by a call. All seemed good, until our party of 7 arrived for the 8 pm reservation. The Hostess announced that we were an hour late, we stated that as far as we knew our reservation was made for 8 pm. The belittling coming from the hostess was unnerving and so unnecessary. Our party was embarrassed and quite frankly treated like children. The food was inventive and tasty but certainly not worth going through what we went through. We don t need to be treated the way we were treated, we could have left but chose to experience a meal we had heard was exceptional. My suggestion, a first good impression begins at the front door of any business. The Antler Restaurant needs an overhaul in that department. The Greco Family
Some of the most delicious food Ive ever had!! The staff were all friendly and polite, all good! Food
Came here for my birthday, service was really good, nice ambience as well, they gave us a free glass of bubbly and a free sample, I got a New York striploin, the quality of the meat was impressive, tasted super fresh, a little on the pricy side though, only thing that wasn t good was the potatoes they give you on the side of the steak, lacked flavour and tasted undercooked, other than that it was top tier
Very overpriced food- we got the fish and it was awful. I barely ate any and the server did not check in at all. Don t waste your time please!
Excellent menu that happened to be all Gluten Free, including desserts. Service was lovely, the perfect balance of attention and leaving us to enjoy our anniversary. I had the short ribs and he had the New York Striploin and we ate every bite! Cant wait to go back.
Service was phenomenal, and the food was mouthwatering!
Best veal I have ever tasted. Melted in my mouth. The building is pretty rough though and prices are extreme!!!
Excellent service and atmosphere. Food was well executed..our server Adair( apologize if spelling is incorrect) was so pleasant. We will recommend and will return
Love this place!! Delicious food, friendly staff, dessert & drinks :) Steaks, Lobster, Pasta, all are my fav! Great ambience, so great with a nice view of golf course & lake!!
Fabulous muskoka meal. Came with my parents and my partner for his birthday and it was the perfect place for a nice cottage country meal. The steaks were perfectly done, the seafood appetizer was as good as it sounds on the menu, the caprese salad is amazing- the twist of avocado ricotta cheese topping the tomato was great. My partner had the pasta which I didnt try but he really enjoyed it. And the desserts were out of this world! Will definetly be a muskoka staple for us.
Fantastic food. Great staff. good ambiance.
For the price I was expecting more. It was very average. The app we got have three shrimps, 1 scallop and 1 crab cake. For 21 dollars I expected at least enough for two people. The staff were all there pleasant and the view was beautiful, but food was nothing to write home about. I ve had better meals way cheaper.
On the pricey side but so worth it! Definitely a place to visit when in the Huntsville area or staying at the Deerhurst Resort. They also have vegan choices if travelling with meat eating relatives
The service was wonderful, the food is on the pricey side given that the taste and portions don t really separate them from other high end steak houses. The atmosphere is dated and can use some updating/refreshing.
Excellent food!
They have a great group of people that work there! Service was quick and food was tasty. Prices were on point. I would suggest adding a steak or two to the lunch menu! Make more $$ that way!
We hosted a dinner reception at the antler steakhouse for 23ppl and were able to book in the private room. The space was good for our group size, had access to the patio and they dressed up the tables and chairs nicely for us. Service was excellent and food was delicious and it all came out in a timely manner. Communication leading up to the date was also excellent.
Amazing food, great service especially Greg who was so patient and made sure that we where happy with what they were serving. We have been coming for years and this year byfar was the best. See you next year.
Disappointing experience. Service is great, (thank you to Dawson!) but prices dont fit the food quality and the indoor environment is a bit dated. Stick with the braised short rib.
Right at Highlands golf course. An amazing dining experience
We are staying at the Deerhurst Resort and ate here last night and had a fantastic experience. Our server, Nick, was very friendly and attentive. He had the perfect balance of checking on us and giving us time to ourselves. We ordered the dinner rolls and scones to start and they were delicious. The only improvement would have been maybe a whipped butter (we ate at another restaurant in town tonight and they served maple whipped butter with their bread and it was outstanding) instead of cold balls of butter which dont spread nicely. We ordered the bone in beef short rib with a lobster tail added on and a steak with a side of fries. The meal was absolutely incredible. Ive never had such a delicious short rib and the lobster tail could have made me cry it was so good. For dessert, we shared the ice cream tasting. Our favourite was the blackberry earl grey to the point that we are going to the local ice cream shop to get a scoop of it tomorrow! Overall, this restaurant was awesome from the service to the food to the ambiance. Highly recommend!
Pricey but good. Mushroom soup was great. Wife liked the tenderloin. $150 kobe beef steak was great, but I wont spend that again
Food was all good but not as good as the price would make you expect. Serving sizes are very generous! Beautiful space and the Deerhurst Resort is lovely. Service was very slow but very friendly - hard to know if they were short staffed due to Covid so I ll give them a pass on that one. Wouldn t recommend outright but would return if someone was footing the bill.
Love the food! They took time to prepare the best!
First impressions were a little run down. However in the end the service and the food was spot on. Such a great experience and location.
Food was ok. Nothing spectacular. Priced high for what it is.
Steak and lobster was very good and staff was amazing
The food was great. Perfectly seasoned steak and so tender (I got the tenderloin). The mussels were a great way to start as well and in a nice creamy sauce. Service was very good and attentive. One thing though, the decor could use some sprucing up as it feels a bit plain and dated.
Great steaks and excellent service. Very pricey!
The food here was amazing, and the service even better! The restaurant has an older lodge feel with a resort casual vibe, but fine dining menu and service.
We had a lovely supper for our 50th Anniversary at the Antler Steak house. The waitress was so pleasant she even gave us a special dessert.. a special thanks to everyone who made our experience wonderful at Deerhurst..
Excellent service. I had the tenderloin which was just about one of the best steaks I have ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Pricey but worth it
Wonderful food and ambiance. Our server Jodi was great!
Excellent food. Service was lovely. The atmosphere was very nice. Overall I was impressed. The food had excellent flavours and seasoned appropriately. Presentation was very nice. Below is the rib eye and the risotto
I called to ask about New Years reservations twice, both times I was put on hold and no one every came back, terrible!!!
Now I know why we always end up at The Keg for a steak or salmon dinner!! That was a Ponderosa style steak for 4x the price!
Excellent service . Appetizer was great we ordered the octopus . Our main was disappointing . The grade of meat did not seem to match the price . Likely a place I wouldn t go back to simply because we felt it was overpriced for what was offered .
Overpriced steak. Service was good, no complaints on that but I didnt like the steak. It was burnt from the outside and raw inside. We ordered the long bone steak it was disappointing. I wouldnt go back and I dont recommend this place. The wine was disappointing also.
Great experience
Great meal and our waitress was very friendly. The steak was delicious and cooked perfectly. The Malbec we ordered went perfectly with the meal.
The food was delicious, a bit overpriced in my opinion though. Baked Alaska was super delicious, creme brule not so much.
Great dinner
Fantastic meal. Our waiter, Murray, was absolutely fabulous - he didnt rush us, made great suggestions and answered all of our questions. We all had different cuts of beef and they were all cooked perfectly and very flavourful. Highly recommend getting the potatoes au gratin - they were delicious!! Great atmosphere too. Found our new favourite summer restaurant.
The place looked very nice and clean. Decor suited the restaurant. We waited an hour for our food. Food was great. Rhubarb creme brûlée was so good!!!
Too much salt. Too little flavour... very inconsistent....been three times two bad one good. Not an acceptable result when dinner for two will set you back 200 large.......however a new chef has arrived for the 2018 season and has antler steak house back on top...great steaks, soups, carpaccio , salads and wine selection make this a whole new place for great dining!
Great place to go with the family. A little more upper scale, but not overly formal just being off the golf course. Good food and friendly service. Being on the resort even the other guests were friendly and came from all over the world.
Ordered a Mojito.. poor attempt bartender. Ordered a Steak... poor flavor and very hard. not a good experience for me.
Great service, very average/bland food and steak. Specially given the over priced steaks!
Poor and overpriced food. Service was good however.
Excellent service and eats. There was live music the night were there. The best place in Huntsville. Cant wait to go back
If you see a very large sweaty waiter, make sure you ask for a different waiter and table. The food is very low quality and very pricy. The service made me vomit. We asked for 2 minutes extra to decide and the waiter looked at me like if I was wasting his time. The guy didn t even ask me if I wanted a glass of wine with my steak. Such terrible restaurant management for a very high reputable resort. I have been in best restaurants in Toronto such as Terra, alo, Buca, Jacobs, etc ...and I know I can not expect something to that level but I go out of my way to eat good food with new experiences and this was a huge let down to say the least. If you are at Deerhurst, just go to the restaurants at the Pavilion building or any other place in Huntsville.
This is our 4th time here this summer, including tonight as I write this review...we love the food, atmosphere and location. All of the staff are great, especially Martine she is fantastic and lovely. The side patio room is cozy with windows you can open for fresh air and great views. Friday nights they have live music. All of the food was excellent: We have ordered steaks, seafood pasta, mussels, oysters, and had great meals each time. Only downside is if there are parties it can be loud and not as quant. Would recommend this place, it is priced like fine dining Steak house it s worth the night out. See you soon Antler steakhouse!
Nice atmosphere, nice service and accommodating for kids. Salmon was very well done which is not my preference. Steak was great.
Antler Steakhouse was fantastic!
Absolutely amazing. Murray was amazing server. The food to die for, especially the pumpkin cream brulè.
On a positive note the staff were AMAZING. Sadly the strip loin we ordered was flavorless and tough. Dissipointed. As we have been coming to Deerhurst for years and have always been so pleased with our meal...when it was Steamers.
Very good food and very friendly service can t ask more
Although it is a steakhouse they do have a number of seafood items available and I have tried them all they are delicious.
very good
My husband and I had a quick date night at deerhurst and decided to go out to Steamers for dinner. The BEST idea we have ever had. From the cozy feel of the restaurant to the amazing wait staff ( especially Murray who is worth his weight in gold)!! Then the food....what can i say everything we ordered was prepared perfectly and the tastes....sheer heaven.....so many different but complimentary tastes.... The whole experience was wonderful and we would highly recommend taking the time to visit this lovely gem!!! Thank you Steamers!!
