Good service. Small cozy little restaurant with nice patio. Cold beer although a bit pricey. Great wings. Will stop by again when passing threw Kanata.

I only went in for a beer with a buddy so I cant comment on the food at this location, but the beer was cold, service was great and the atmosphere was nice.

We ordered fish and chips and Malaysian bowl. Don t recommend the Malaysian bowl, but fish and chips were great. Service is pretty good and portion sizes are not bad. Ambience is great for casual for lunch and team meets.

Sad they no longer do breakfast on the weekends because it was one of our favorite brunch spots with the kids, but the regular pub food is good too.

So close to home that we sometimes overlook the Barley Mow. Their food and service is always excellent and we enjoy their happy hour apps too, especially the pierogies and the birria (sp?) rolls!

Standard pub fare

Went on a Sunday with my family. The kids (2) ate free with mine and my husbands order, which was great. The staff was friendly and attentive. The fish and chips and kale slaw were GREAT. 10/10 recommend. Well be back.

A surprising, last-minute find close to our hotel. Several interesting plub style choices on the menu and good choice of beers, canned or on tap. We enjoyed our choices, chicken burger and Barley Mow burger. Only negative point was the noise caused by a loud speaking server and a customer at a nearby table.

$65 for 2 burgers delivered via uber eats that were missing flavour and the sauce that was supposed to be on the burgers.

I ve been here about a dozen times. It just kind of does the job for being all the way out in Kanata. Just watched the bartenders give some of the worst service I ve seen. They were not attentive, the bros at the bar seemed to be their main focus. So I didn t get any attention and they forgot to bring my order. When I got it the chicken was dry. This was during main dinner time. Seemed to me like there was no management or that the manager was also preoccupied with something other than quality and service. I may go back one more time just because this place is convenient but am not interested in seeing more of their local neighborhood drama. EDIT EDIT EDIT came back tonight and had much better service THANK YOU GUYS, it was back to good tonight with these servers

Great service! These servers went above and beyond for my kids (whipped cream and sprinkles in their choc milk) had a great experience!! Definitely worth a revisit!! Food was hot and generous!! Ps kids eat free on Sundays!! Who does that anymore???!!! Kid-friendliness: Our kids loved our server jade!

Came in for wing night. Didn t get served our wings for over an hour. Waitresses verbally fought each other out loud and the whole entire restaurant got quiet. Very unprofessional and toxic work environment. Not impressed. I ve been to this restaurant in the past and have had bad service. Please fix this!!!!!!! Sincerely a sad customer

We arrived for the 8pm wing night special. This was probably the worst restaurant experience I ve ever had. We were a group of 7 adults and my 6 year old. Took over an hour to get our food and at that point we still hadn t received any of our drinks. After waiting an hour and a half for a Caesar and over 50 minutes for my sons dessert (he ate dinner before going), I said please remove them from our bill. At this point they said oh we can have the dessert out in 5 minutes. His sticky toffee cake took another 20 minutes still and when it came out I had to ask for the ice cream that it was supposed to come with. One friend who ordered 2lbs of wings never received the two drinks that were supposed to go with them in order to get the cheap wing deal. We were two hours in this restaurant simply because the service was so terrible and slow! No one wanted to order a second round of wings for fear that we d wait another hour. Honestly BRUTAL!

Food is mostly miss and miss. Service after 5 is still somewhat unresponsive. Good beer selection. If its busy it could seem like it has atmosphere, but that maybe the beer talking.

It has been a long time since I have visited one of these. There was one in downtown -ish Ottawa years ago when I lived there that I would frequent. At the time, it was a bit on the edge of price range for a student but it had a decent tap list and some food that was almost at the gastro/bistro level. It made it worth a treat. Now, I got a beer I hadnt had that was as expected and a burger that was as remembered. Better than it has to be but not overly pretentious. I went in off hours but can see how this place could become packed and have service affected. This time, the service was good, casual and professional. Perfect for a catch up with my sister.

Ive become a regular here at The Barley Mow. The Food is good, the kitchen gets food out consistently and quite quick even during the lunch hour rush. The service is absolutely incredible. Kate & Andrea are fantastic. Always right on top of my orders, checking in to see if everything is right to my liking and always welcoming. A great spot to go get food/drinks. Would give it more than 5 stars if I could! Brandon

The ceaser salad had wilting lettuce and a texture which felt like grains of sand in my mouth. Would not recommend that dish.

My Newfy wife loved the fish and chips. That s a major accomplishment as she is very picky in that regard.

Great pub. I was impressed that our waitress was learning ASL and made and effort with my sister and brother-in-law who are both deaf.

Had the Fish and Chips special on a Friday night with co-workers. It is a good place to enjoy a good meal and beer. Friendly staff. Parking: The parking lot is in a mini mall so there is usually sufficient parking.

Ordered honey garlic wings, received roughly 7 wings and 10 onion rings, just really small portions for the cost. The wings were decent, but were not very neat meaty. Perhaps just stay away from the wings!

A Kanata Gem!! I have lived in Kanata most of my life and everyone I know, including myself, have never had a bad meal at the Barley Mow. All the staff are incredibly friendly. And the drinks are great too, of course. Great memories at the Barley Mow.

Hailey went above and beyond in opening up the front case to get me the hat I wanted. $10 good quality hats and service that can t be beat!

Went for a beer after golf. Took over half an hour to place an order. Never got our water. Some of us left before we were even served. Not going back.

I had the Caesar salad with blackened chicken added to it and it was quite good. The service was great and the atmosphere was fun.

The food actually is not bad for a pub franchise. Theres a big patio. Great for a nice lunch with colleagues during the week. Never actually been here tonight, though. Recommended for chill get together during the workweek.

I enjoyed a lovely afternoon with 12 colleagues on the patio. Eight of us had lunch a and the others joined later. My lunch was a chicken taco salad, which was very good. Service was pleasant and appropriately timely for a casual get-together. The patio tables and chairs are plastic but comfortable. The umbrellas provided shade as needed, and we could carry on conversations without loud music to annoy us. Overall just right for the event.

We were in Kanata for a wedding and found this pub very near our hotel 10 minute walk. Dinner was great and the atmosphere and service all top notch. The next morning we went back for Saturday brunch. This time we got a booth. The five of us had a great time!

Service was pleasant and efficient but the fish and chips... $22.50 for that? About the size of 3 fish sticks stuck together.

They are understaffed and the staff they do have seem inexperienced. It will take a long time for you to get a drink. We spent 15 minutes waiting and trying to flag down any server. I went to the bar to order drinks that never came to the table. After about 10 minutes another server finally came around and got us drinks.

Went there last night with our family. We ordered the kids food first and drinks. 20 minutes later only 1 person had received her drink. Took 30 minutes for all of us to receive them. The kids were thirsty and hungry and it took 1 hour before receiving any food. The waitress was nice but she was inexperienced. She confirmed our orders 3 times and wrote everything down and still came back to our table confused. The place had us, one other large group and a few people at the bar. No reason why it should have taken this long. The fish and chips were good but the Tipsy stew was basically gravy with mashed potatoes and bread (missing meat and veggies stated on the menu). The Malaysian chicken was basically pasta noodles with a little chicken drowning in sauce that was watered down. My daughter was walking beside one of the tables (which is supported by 3 legs only-not safe) and went to hold on to one and it fell on her. Shattered a glass. When the waitress came over to clean it up she said that this was the 3rd time today that one of their tables fell over because they are poorly built! 3rd time! (If the restaurant is aware it is a safety issues, they should fix it before someone else gets hurt). After our meal the kids were waiting for the waitress to come around and ask which desert they wanted (it was supposed to be included in the kids meal). She never came. Nor did she come with our bills. We got tired of waiting and one by one we went to pay at the bar. Waste of money. The whole experience left us pretty sour.

i m convinced all the staff were drunk or at the very least not sober. they freaked out that 8-10 of us came without a warning it s a pub. got my drink entirely wrong (didn t realize a sour beer = whiskey sour?) and made us feel SO unwelcome. for a pub that s not busy or popular, i m surprised the staff wasn t more keen on serving and getting tips lol. very passive aggressive staff, you re better off going elsewhere for a drink!

Went for brunch with a large group. The food was good, but the service could have been better. Im not sure if our server was new, but she seemed quite overwhelmed and should have had someone to help her so things were not missed.

Really, really good pub with excellent food and service to match. The breadth of the menu is impressive, standard pub fare but with plenty of global cusines; curries, pho and the second best fish and chips in Ottawa so far. And the service is truly excellent, the staff are welcoming, prompt and friendly. I could have stayed all afternoon!

This is the one to look for in Kanata Tech park.. Fridays are busy, I simply live the Patio ambience, providing a hangout to meet friends.

Stayed at Brookstone hotel and wanted a different meal, ordered take out from here. Came out late and cold, missing condiments and gravy on a poutine, paid the $3 upcharge for cold fries with cheese curds. Looked like a nice place to have a pint imside, not recommended for a meal if your looking for close by off site dining from Brookstreet.

Fast, good quality food here with friendly, capable service. I really enjoyed the calamari + very tender and not over-breaded. The salads were fresh and tasty.

Visited on a Sunday night, they were open and happy to serve. Ordered a grilled chicken wrap, chicken tenders, and fries. Excellent price and they were very nice while we waited. Flavor on the spicy chicken tenders was fantastic!

Friendly servers, beer and food was good as well. What more do you want from a pub?

I hosted my fathers retirement party here with 50+ guests. Hailey our waitress was amazing, she was so attentive. She knew everyones name by the end of the night andade us feel so welcome.

Christmas party fun. Great place for a few drinks and something to eat.

Great atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. We were there for a company Christmas event; I had the taco salad which was delicious and my husband enjoyed the prime rib dinner.

In addition to many other enjoyable meals that Ive had had on the premises, tonight my wife & I choose to do take out which we were very pleased with. I would strongly encourage locals and visitors to support this business especially during the covid lock down. Its a gem & we want it to survive.

My food was good I had the fish and chips. My friend had a burger and it was definitely over cooked. I also found the service a little slow especially considering this location is in the tech park and people need to get back to work.

The food was poor the portions were small prices are high for food and drinks the barley mow needs to up its standard in the food its serving out.if the food is good it would be busy its poor. And not busy The staff where nice Their should be no reserve tables during covid.spent 2 hours dare 6 tables reserved and people turned away.

At face value the 1 c wings deal on Thursday night appears as a good deal. However if you arrive just prior to 8 pm and order a beer ( $9.00 draft inc tax ) and await the 8 pm timeline to order wings you cannot have the 1 c deal unless your order another beer. Not really a deal.

For the first time since outdoor patios opened, I rode my bike to the Barley Mow in Kanata on the afternoon of July 22/20 and decided to have a drink and a snack. When I arrived, I noticed that the tables were very well separated keeping the customers physically distant from each other as per regulations. The young waitress who greeted me was wearing a mask. She allowed me to bring my bike inside the fenced area and told me that I did not need to wear while I was on the patio. I chose a table where I could stay at least 6 feet away from the servers and other customers. I then noticed there was another, slightly older waitress who was wearing her face mask under her chin! She was serving customers and speaking to customers all without keeping a minimum of 6 feet away from them. Because neither the customers or her were wearing a mask, the risk of transmission of the virus was obviously there. This behaviour continued throughout the 1/2 hour I was there. Obviously it had been going on before and continued after I left. When it was time for me to pay my bill, this same waitress who was not wearing her mask, came to my table with the ATM portable machine. She was right at my table before I had a chance to realize she was coming. I immediately asked her to step back because I did not feel comfortable with the fact she was not wearing a mask. She politely stepped back, wiped off the machine and left. I did not see her again. I left quickly and will definitely not be returning there. I have now witnessed first hand that this type of employee behaviour being allowed by restaurant owners and managers combined with the relaxed inhibitions of customers under the influence of alcohol, is very clearly one of the many reasons why covid-19 cases are spiking again in Ottawa.

Not a fan of Indian cuisine, but vindaloo here is amazing! I ve been here multiple times, ate burgers and kabobs everything is tasty, but vindaloo inspired me to write this review! Also, dinner for 2 for $45 is a good deal. (2 mains, 4 beers). Keep up the good work, guys!
