Finally a Chinese restaurant that makes authentic Cantonese chow mein. Great food! Prices are a bit high for dishes example $17.95 for scrambled eggs???? 😵💫 Other than that the food is great!
Ordered online gave specific direction that were not followed. Chicken was soggy and gross. Chicken chow mein had no chicken and everything was cold. No napkins or soya sauce.
A pretty good place for Chinese food in the area. They have basic Chinese food as well as two pages of menu items from Northern China. The food tastes good. The interior is relatively clean but not super modern (it's like a mom and pop shop). The server, I think, is the owner /wife of owner. She is pretty friendly. I would recommend this place if you're close by looking for Chinese take out.
There is no beef in ginger beef. Only reason I’m giving 3 stars is because other dishes I ordered ( beef with veggie and beef chow mein) were good.
Was very hungry so decided to do a quick pickup from Golden Island. Called the order in and was ready in 15 mins for pickup. Ordered combo for one (B), sweet and sour pork, almond chicken and chicken chow mein. Took me 5 mins to walk back home. Food was still very hot, portions were large. As for quality, this is where stars were lost. The pork was breaded and extremely small bits, it was the chewiest s&s pork ever. Many of the breaded bits didn’t even have pork in them. I could barely eat it. The almond chicken was battered with a few almonds sprinkled on top(no sauce) so just tasted like plain old chicken. The chicken chow mein consisted of lots of noodles, a wee bit of cabbage and if you looked hard enough, there was maybe 3 teency pieces of chicken. Bad choice going with the “B” selection maybe…but too bad cause I was so hungry and looking forward to Chinese food.
Needed some authentic Chinese food, and this is a really good place to get some. I recommend the eggplant, stir-fry veggies, Hainese chicken, fried wontons, and especially seaweed soup! It’s located close to UBCO too.
Plentiful portion and quality dishes! Tried out combo C and it's highly recommended—although the sesame chicken was a lil tasty, the fried rice and veggies were well cooked! Arguably pricey menus but at least the price was proportional to the quantity.
Food delivery to students living on campus costs $4, it'd be nicer if they charge less considering they are so close to campus! But the Chinese food there fairly authentic, the food was good 牛腩煲很不错！however the green beans I had was not super fresh, I wish they had a website with digital menu! It's worth a try
Honestly the best beef chip suey I ve ever had. Chop suey, Fried rice, sesame chicken and almond chicken is my tops here. the chow mein is a tad bland but still great. Great service and small restaurant vibe. Highly recommend.

Food was incredible! Since moving up here from Vancouver weve been missing really good Chinese food. Weve tried a dozen places in Kelowna. All subpar. Anyhow tried Golden Island today. Amazing. As good or better then Vancouver.

We decided to try this as its not too far from where we live, the delivery came promptly,. The food however was not up to par, the ginger beef was beyond greasy and is deep fried, actually its the worst we have ever had, squeeze it and grease ooozes, smelled fishy, no ginger flavours, it was beyond overcooked, we kept trying thinking we were off, tossed about 80% of it. The chicken balls were ok but again a bit fishy which brings to mind the oil in the deep fryer is/was likely long overdue for changing. Chicken fried rice was ok but again a bit fishy, not much chicken in the dish but a good sized portion, hope its better for others, maybe short staffed and not well trained cooks the day we ordered, unlikely to use them again, sorry.
There is no meat in the sweet and sour pork. Its just batter. There is also no beef in the beef & broccoli.
A bit pricey but large portions and great flavor. Worth it .

Lovely place. Very pleasant lady and delicious food. Beef brisket was tasty and not over salted. Spicy eggplant was excellent. Dietary restrictions: We dont eat pork and one dish came with pork in. It was our mistake for forgetting to ask in advance but the lady replaced it at no charge with a new dish without pork. Much appreciated.
Good food and good service I would encourage people who have not tried authentic Chinese food to come eat here!:)

Got as far as the phone call. $5 to sub out a combo for one item on a combo which costs &15? Thats already excessive for something which takes no extra effort, let alone when the menu says outright $1.50 for any substitutions. Unreal guys. Unreal.

Hong Kong owner and operator. The food is great and flavourful. Although I found their menu could a more A-La-Cart menus from more Traditional Chinese style food. Besides that, I have been a repeat customer for the few months since I moved here from Toronto.
Restaurant is unreliable. On their open sign at the door, their website and their Google business listing, the hours are listed as opening at 11am. Currently it is Sunday at 1230pm and the restaurant is still closed. We tried calling them and there is no answering machine. There is no sign at the restaurant stating closure today. A couple other people were also waiting for the restaurant to open and stated that sometimes they open at 1215pm or 1230pm on Sundays and they left at 1230pm. What kind of restaurant operates like this?! Way to lose trust and respect for your business. Adjust your hours or show up when you say you are open.
We ordered congee with sliced beef but what we got was congee with minced beef. If this is how they serve it, it should say that on the menu instead. The congee was under seasoned as well.

The only Chinese restaurant in Kelowna that sells porridge . My baby only knows porridge, but I only found it on the last day of my trip . In addition to Zhou, I also bought Sichuan spicy beef and soup wontons. They tasted good, especially the spicy beef, which was eaten up by my parents in an instant

Food was trash tasted like it was three days old their beef chow mein was just mush with no beef sweet and sour pork was dry and burnt will never go back avoid this place
Veggie noodle chow mein does not come with tofu or any protien source. Noodles are very soggy, almost no vegetables. Never going there again.
Okay food and not terrible but I would not recommend Golden Island; especially, the house special chow mien. The noodles were dried out and many burned. Had to throw them out. The crispy squid were tough and chewy. We wont be going back to this place.

Decent food. Overall presentation was great. Ordered their eggplant dish and specifically asked if it was vegetarian and was told yes. Came home to eat it and it had pork in it. Three the entire dish out.

Good menu and the owner couple are very friendly. We asked that they go easy on the salt and oil and they did exactly that. This will be one of our go-to places in Kelowna.

Golden Island offers a delicious menu with a range of food options. Clients can eat in or order take out. There are peak times during the evening, however, the restaurant maintains its welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. As a busy student I often order from Golden Island because of their tasty food and friendly service. I highly recommend it as a fast and reliable food option for anyone living in the Academy Hill area!
Not good Chinese food. If you are desperate, it will do. Ginger beef has no beef, just fried batter. Special fried rise is just greasy steam rice with few. It s if BBQ pork. Don t recommend this place.
The food is really quite amazing; all home made from scratch and deliciously fresh. If it were not located in an out of the way location (UBCO) it would be Kelownas busiest Asian food restaurant. Highly recommended.
Had the BBQ duck and it was so tasty. War wonton soup is also a favorite of mine. Deluxe special #1 will always have a special place in my heart. Beautiful food in a beautiful setting, what could be better?

Food is good, but do not whatsoever order over the phone. The people do not understand English and will get your order wrong ever time. You have to go in and point at the menu what you want. Also quite expensive for only good not great food

Like a lot of Chinese restaurants, the menu is varied and extremely tasty. Portions are really generous, and the price is on point. Id drive to this place from downtown just to get their pork fried rice when Im craving Chinese food!

It was honestly a pleasant surprise to find an Chinese restaurant that served quality food so close to campus. I have had a lot of experience with Chinese restaurants in the lower mainland/Richmond area, and each time I have eaten here it has reminded me of home. The food has yet to disappoint me, the restaurant is clean, and the service has been consistent each time. I just had the hot and sour soup and it tasted better than ones I have had at the most expensive restaurants in Richmond. Well done! :)
Pretty big size, tasty
Being a university student my standards for food quality are pretty low. This establishment was not even able to meet those standards. Save yourself the disappointment and go for a well pizza instead.

This place is a shame. I am a Chinese native and a Professor working at UBC. I went to this place tonight and ordered a BBQ duck rice plate. Instead of the meaty picture shown on the menu, they gave me some duck bones and a big pile of rice with soy sauce and charge you $14.65. Avoid this place!
