Last weekend my partner and I arrived in Kelowna and decided to dine at Mekong on a whim. We misread the sign and thought there was a dinner buffet, but learned that it s o my offered at lunch. We sat in and ordered from the menu instead - fried rice with prawns and an order of their spicy tofu on broccoli. My partner does not usually love tofu as much as I do, but he kept loading his plate with more tofu and kept raving about how delicious it was. Honestly, the fried rice was one of the best I ve had - rice was perfectly fluffy but chewy at the same time - and it reminded me a little of that way my grandpa used to make it. The prawns were huge, and we effortlessly ate it all despite the generous portions. We returned the next morning to actually try the buffet, and I enjoyed it a lot. The sauces were great, and I personally enjoyed everything I tried. It would have been a nice addition to have more seafood or veggie options as my partner eats halal, but the variety of shrimp/prawns he was able to eat was good. Har gow was delicious. We learned that some dim sum items were included in the buffet pricing as we were already on our second plates, but I would have liked to try the siu mai too. Overall, lovely service and satisfying food. Prices and portions were spot on. Atmosphere was comfortable - almost too comfortable because they had the kind of music you would play to fall asleep to on loop both times we were there. We will definitely return when we visit Kelowna again.

We were looking forward to trying out their new lunch buffet, The variety of dishes available seemed to be okay however most of the bins were empty or not much in them and there were only no more than 4 or 5 tables so they weren t over busy. I didn t care for the disposable plates as by the time you carry your food from the buffet to the next room to your table the food was pretty well cold...not a good experience

We went for lunch buffet but what they actually offer is all-you-can-eat on select food item only. You pick off the menu and they serve it you. Aside from the wonderful deep fried prawn (only reason this got stars), we also had the Veg spring roll, chow mein (veg), Wok fried rice (veg), and beef and broccoli which were nothing to write home about. They also didn t have fried chicken (they said I would to wait a long time if I wanted to order). Aside from the spring rolls and prawns, everything came on 1 plate. We each had a mountain of beef and broccoli, fried rice and chow mein. The servings are huge but since it s buffet /AYCE we were expecting smaller servings so you can try what you want and pace yourself. Sadly this isn t the case at Mekong. If not for the deep fried prawns, not sure if we ll return or even recommend to others.

False advertising. They post outside the restaurant Buffet but they dont even have one. They get you inside and apologize then try to seat you. TAKE DOWN THE BUFFET SIGN IF YOU DONT HAVE A BUFFET.

Sooooooo good. I have celiac and I can have crispy ginger beef, sweet and sour deep fried chicken balls, szeshuan green beans off of their gf menu. My husband can eat gluten and he still feels it s one of the Best Chinese take outs he has had. Also everyone who shares the take out with us thinks it s great. Sometimes they throw in extras like spring rolls because they re nice.

It has gone downhill completely since the new owners from Alberta took over a couple years ago.. Adding potatoes to their Sizzling Wok that the previous owners had was awful. We QUIT going there after that.

I have ordered takeout twice from Mekong and both times the food was underwhelming. Broccoli beef and cashew chicken were 80% vegetable and 20% meat. The vegetables in cashew chicken also seemed overcooked. The overall portion sizes were decent, but the quality and taste were not there unfortunately.

NEW: What the heck happened. Prices have gone up and the qualitys gone down. Dine in is basically never an option anymore. The pandemic hit this place hard and it seems like its never recovered. Shame. Original from 6 years ago: Mekong is easily one of Kelownas best restaurants. Many of its signature dishes are incredibly tasty (Sizzling Beef in Black Pepper Sauce is a personal favorite, Szechuan Prawns another) and it has very good green tea and such as well. Great place to go for sharing, and especially for birthdays.

The food was mediocre. our bill was $280 and I ve never been treated so badly in my entire life by an owner. I m surprised that she can keep a business running. The recipes have changed and the quality has gone WAY down! Ordered take out and were very disappointing for the unappetizing food. We had to mix our own sauces over very poor quality meats. Not worth the high cost. Never Again!

We were shown to a table by a young lady who said that there was a 15 minute wait for food which seemed ok as we were the only people in the restaurant apart from 3 people waiting for takeout. The girl came back after 5 minutes asking if she had told us about the wait for food? I replied yes 15 mins and she said NO, 50 minutes...... I said ok can I order some drinks. She said that she couldnt serve alcohol as she was under age......... What the actual!!!!!!! Total waste of time!!!!!!

Food isn t what it used to be. Sizes are reduced and recipes aren t the same. The restaurant was dead quiet. No music, just the people next to us chomping with their mouths open. Also has a child maybe 13 serving us. Expensive meal that I couldn t wait to be over.

Nice restaurant. Food was good, service was good, I wish I could fit more in my stomach. I would have ordered more! Make sure to try the spicy green beans and the sweet and sour jumbo prawns!

Ignore what other people say. This is still one of the better Chinese restaurants. You have to know what to order. The spicy green beans, ginger fried chicken, house special tofu, and don t forget the beef brisket. Pair it with your choice or rice or chow mein and you are set. Their prices has gone up, but so has everything else. Even McDonald s has gone up. Oh and if you have any allergies, make sure to let them know! They will take great care of you.

I ve been around town for awhile now and have finally decided to try Mekong. Upon my arrival, I was hit with music which was not pleasing to the ears whatsoever. I notice that they were understaffed.The young waitress was nice but the manager was quite loud and it felt like she didn t care about the other people who were either dining in or getting takeout, felt like she was very rude. The food was good but the wonton soup seemed to have little to no flavour at all. Noodle nest was very good though! My 1 star review is because of the service that is highly lacking considering that this used to be Kelownas to go place for Chinese food. they seemed to be understaffed and have no delivery besides the delivery apps skip etc.

I tried the buffet for the first time today. The food was really fresh and my 2 favorites were the black bean chicken and the breaded shrimp was so fresh and they used huge tiger shrimp and the bread was perfect. One of my new favorite places 5 stars

I heard good things about Mekong but I m let down. I am gluten free and heard they have options but after I finished my meal I feel sick and started having a gluten reaction. I got gf chicken fried rice, gf almond chicken, gf spring rolls. I open the spring rolls and the sauce it came with is very watered down. You d think if you spend 90 dollars on a meal you wouldn t get cheaped out.

We loved this place a few years back. It was the best Chinese Food by far. Several years later and after eating there today we won t be back. The rice was half cooked and hard. When we complained the staff looked at us as if we had no option but to eat it. Horrible food, horrible tasting and horrible service. Never again. Good luck Mekong. You went from the best to the worst in a few short years.

went for dinner it was the worst decision in going to Mekong Chinese restaurant. What was a10 in service and food 15 years ago, the new owner has let it slip to a zero. The food was cold. The server was rude. Go to Asian Pear if you want chinese.

Do not eat there if you have allergies. Menu says gluten free on the items but they are not unless u request it separately. They made me pay for the gluten items and then pay again for ones that wear not. They even blamed me saying the server who answered the phone said the order back which they do not. Sweet and sour chicken was pork not chicken. Also had someone with a seafood allergy and they couldnt even understand that and tried to justify giving shrimp in her dish as we should be happy for the extra. They do not understand dietary or allergy request. I suggest dont order from here

Only serve bottled water at $3 each. Meat is dry and chewy as in old and stale. Pad Thai dish looked like spaghetti smoothered in ketchup. Service style is unfriendly. Our last visit

First time ever my family decided to walk out a restaurant after sitting down because the attitude of the waitress. We re just travelling through town and decided to have some Chinese food. When we got in the restaurant was almost empty but the waitress asked, unfriendly, if we have a reservation. We told her that we don t. She asked us to come back in half an hour. Seeing the place was almost empty we asked why. She said she has to arrange the table for us. We told her we could just wait in the restaurant. She reluctantly said yes. Few minutes we later the tables were arranged and we sat down and waiting for the waitress. When she came out, with an unwelcoming tone she said you need to make your reservation next time and then she walked away again. We all felt like we re not welcome to the restaurant and decided to leave and take our business somewhere else. We don t know what was the matter with the waitress but now understand why the place was so empty. We ll make sure to make reservations next time, that is if there is a next time.

Mekong is one of my absolute favourite Chinese restaurants. The best part is? Almost everything on the menu can be gluten free! If you have celiac or gluten intolerance, its a great place to be. The people are always so lovely, and the food is so delicious. I have been going here for years, and I have not once gotten sick due to cross contamination. The owners are also so nice. All around just always a great experience. Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options!

I don t usually write reviews, but it was such a bad experience that I m leaving this review. DON T ORDER from them if you have allergies. I confirmed three times that the menu I ordered are gluten free and fried in a seperate fryer. They said yes for all three times, but I got sick the night that I had their food and felt terrible the following day. It was very obvious that I was sick from gluten, so I called them and told them that I got sick from their food. I asked for a refund and they kept saying It s not about the money, you need to go see a doctor. They just repeated money is not important and it is all about your health in a very aggresive tone. If they REALLY cared about my health, the very minimum thing they can do is saying sorry. There was no apologies whatsoever. I had to hang up because the conversation didn t go anywhere and it was such a waste of my time, and they left a message that they can give me a refund ONLY IF I bring a doctor s note and the receipt. So in the end, it was not because they care about my health, it was because they don t trust that I got sick from their incompetence and dishonesty. I can t describe how dissapointed I am.

My husband has just visited to order a takeaway, 2 dishes, the young lady was blunt, rude and unhelpful. Eventually after a long description of the 2 dishes we had highlighted on the menu, she thrust a card reader in his face with absolutely no acknowledgement of the order or price....my husband exited the restaurant.....obviously they do not need the custom!

The almond chicken looked like all of 1 chicken breast. The sweet sour pork tasted like just pineapple! The rest of what we ordered wasnt very good either! Never again!

Rude, rude, rude. We went to this place for dinner for the first time and when we got there, there wasnt a customer in the place. We asked the young woman that was their greeter (for lack of a better term) for a table for 2. The young woman asked us to wait. My wife took another step and the woman said I told you to wait here! We were shocked but waited. She went to the kitchen, came back and said it would be a 1 hour wait as they were busy with take out orders. Thats when we left. I dont care how their food is, we wont be back. Rude, rude, rude

Had it last night for delivery . The food was super hot and fresh. The deep fried prawns were amazing, they nailed the deep fry. Everything we had was good (5 dishes) and it came in an hour. Best I ve had in Kelowna now, lots of the others are serving some substandard Chinese food..

I ordered dinner for the family tonight from this place for the first time. The order arrived as promised an hour or so from when I ordered. The order arrived and the container of rice was missing. It wasnt a huge deal, my wife cooked up some rice in the rice cooker and we enjoyed an average meal. I decided to call the restaurant back to notify them that we didnt get our rice and I was shocked. At first I was questioned about what I meant by not getting rice. Then I was on hold for about 5 minutes while they talked to the kitchen. And then I was told that we received 2 bags and there was a rice container in one of them. And then they told me it was my sons fault because he took one of the bags from the delivery driver. And then they told me they didnt know who to believe, because the cook said he put rice in the bag. I then told them I was just calling to notify them and an apology would have sufficed. And then they changed their tone to apologizing. First and last time ordering from this place! (we didnt get the rice, but we did get some mystery gravy)

Food wasnt that good. My partner was sick after ( I ate the leftover the day after and wasnr feeling sick) Very bad service. They are only doing takeout righr now, we rook our food came bavk and realized there was no cutlery, plate, napkins, etc. When I went back and told them. The asian girl was irritated and was full of attitude. I also told them there was no soya sauce and she and an older asian woman were insisting that they did put and I should check the bag again. (Okay so lets say there was soya sauce pack in the takeout bag, but whats gonna happen if you give another one?) I didnt like their attitude and the fact that they were blaming me for not giving me cutlery. If you are only giving take out you have to give everything.

Ordered food for delivery,the driver was given the wrong address so he calls me and I give him correct address, he shows up without the food and says he will be right back as he left the food a couple blocks away at the last house in the driveway,obviously I wasn t accepting food that was left unattended and then the restaurant calls me saying there s nothing wrong with the food and complaining they are out the money for the food

Best Chinese food in Okanagan region. The quality and quantity of the food is simply the best. We ordered delivery and the service was quick and friendly. It will be our favorite place now onwards whenever we visit kelowna.

The decor is a little dated but the food was great. Annually one of the highest voted Chinese restaurants in Kelowna.

Must be under new ownership, they no longer give rice with each entree like they used to, they also no longer give a hot towel at the end of the meal. We also had 3 frequent visitor cards full of stamps to redeem for $10 off an entree and were only permitted to redeem 1 card. Other than that, the food was good but without the extra perks Im not sure we will travel the extra distance across town to go to this restaurant with similar restaurants much closer to home.

This was very good food, very fresh and light and the sauces tasted home made. And I felt great after which almost never happens with Chinese food. Very pleasantly surprised

had a take out order the other day and we found that there was a lot of sweet sauces/liquid in a lot of the dishs. it seemed like they were filling the containers with liquid instead of food. wasnt like this before when we had take-outs

I ordered takeout from Mekong and was slightly disappointed with my meal. My order consisted of chowmein and one eggroll. Ill start with the good about what i enjoyed from my meal from Mekong. The chowmein I ordered was a good portion and the flavor, while lacking, was still there and not that bad. Now Ill continue with what i disliked about my order. So first off they got my order wrong and gave me chicken chowmein rather than vegetable chowmein. I said vegetable chowmein twice over the phone because the lady taking my order thought i said chicken and I corrected her with vegetable. I received chicken though. Secondly the price of my meal was higher than other chinese restaurants I have ordered at. The eggroll alone (just one of them) cost me $3.50 which is very expensive in my opinion. Thirdly, as also told in other reviews, the chowmein was soupy on the bottom with some sort of sweet sauce which isnt bad tasting but there was too much used. Lastly the eggroll, on top of being expensive, was kinda tasteless and had no real punch or flavor to it. After eating it I was not really sure what flavors I was tasting and was kind of disappointed. In conclusion, my meal at Mekong was disappointing and even if I dont take into account the order mistake the food itself being expensive, soupy, and no impacting flavor was a let down in the end.

We had a take out order for 4 people. When we got home to eat we found that about half of our ginger chicken dish was very tough like it was cooked too long. I called to let the restaurant know so they could tell the kitchen. I asked if they could credit me for this dish for a future take out order... I was told by the lady on the phone that I would have to bring back the dish with the tough pieces so the cook to taste it and confirm if they would replace it or credit me. She basically insisted I had to bring it back...by that time half was gone and the other half was in the trash. Crazy response from the restaurant! Bring my food back for the cook to try it??? Yikes especially with COVID 19 going on. Take out order was July 30 at 515.

Drove all the way from Vancouver to eat here for our 2 yr anniversary! Because they offer gluten free options and have never made us sick - thank you! Not offering dine in during covid 19 but they brought our order to our car.

Generally it was a nice American Chinese experience. We ordered the takeout special for five people, and were a little dismayed to find out that three of the five dishes were deep fried. The beef in black sauce was a sweet buttery delicious dish. The deep fried chicken was a little tough but the ginger sauce was a delightful touch. We found the vegetables relatively fresh, but the sauce on them to be quite bland. The pork was fine it wasnt a star but it wasnt in anyway bad. The almond chicken was in fact delicious and we would highly recommend this one as well as the beef and black sauce. Even though it was a little more deep fried than we were expecting the oil didnt give us stomach aches so either it was a good quality or we were particularly hungry. I could wish that when you ordered the special for five you got a little more rice it felt like the same amount of rice you would have gotten if you ordered the special for two. I found the experience of picking it up quite charming and the staff were super friendly as I was interacting with them, they did forget to give us chopsticks however which was a little inconvenient when we got back to the hotel...

DO NOT ORDE FROM MEKONG!!! I ordered delivery last night and they messed up the order. They forgot part of the order to start with. The food I did order and receive was requested to be medium spicy and it was so spicy we could not eat it. I took the food back which was barely touched and the lady was very rude and refused to refund my money. This NEVER would have happened when Dan owned the place. I have been ordering food from Mekong for 25 years and since new owners took over last year prices went up and quality and service went way down. Terrible as it was go good for all the years Dan and his wife owned it.

Read back order 3 times and still got it wrong. Not sure how that is possible! Chopsuey with no noodles.....

We have been going to this Restaurant for years and have never had a bad experience. We thank them for a wonderful meal every time we have a chance to go there . We can only recommend to go and try their fresh and tasty meals.

Good food. Great service. My go-to place for Chinese take out. Always fresh and hot. Good portion sizes for the price. Spring rolls are usually bit on the greasy side ....(despite that I always order them anyway because they are so good) Singapore noodles, sesame chicken and beef satay are my favorites and Ive never been disappointed. I always do pick up and the wait time is reasonable. Good selection of gluten free and vegetarian options for my friends with dietary requirements.

This place is AMAZING! It has lots of gluten free options which most places don t! The food is always amazing and the staff treats us like family! We come here almost weekly because we know we will get great food and even better service! Thank you so much!

We have been here so many times over the last several years and have always had a great experience. They have plenty of gluten free options and are super accommodating. I cant recommend them enough!

Service was Fantastic and very fresh food

Used to love the Mekong Very disappointed. Sauces were bland, flavourless and the whole experience was underwhelming. Pineapple chicken had no flavour. I would probably give this restaurant another chance as it has been good in the past but if nothing changes, I wouldn t be back.

What a great experience! The staff treat us like family (the nice ones ) and food is excellent. Our group goes there at least twice a year with a large banquet and they are always outstanding!

My parents always request to go to this restaurant for special occasions. Everyone at this restaurant is friendly and helpful, they always go out of thier way to make celebrations special. Also a great choice for large group events.

Ordered Singapore noodles to go! I haven t had any other Singapore noodles in Kelowna yet but compared to my favourite place in Toronto they were good. The portion was a bit small and I found it odd there was a bit of celery other wise they were good :)

Slowest service anywhere. Even just to bring coffee. The have their two kids working one in elementary school serving a restaurant on Fathers Day. Spend some money and hire a server.

The staff are super friendly and very accommodating. The whole vibe of this little restaurant is very relaxed but still a great place to have a nice meal. Their taro bubble tea is 10/10!

Probably the best Chinese food Ive ever had. All of the vegetables were very bright and the taste was excellent. I ate so much I now feel like Im going to die.

Definitely would not recommend this place and don t know how they have any customers. Was told our take out would be 45 minutes and we ended up waiting well over an hour and a half. They didn t have the courtesy to call and tell us, meaning we waited 45 minutes at the restaurant, missing our family dinner party that we were supposed to be bringing the food to. Once we were given half our order it was not what was described on the online menu. I tried telling the lady at the front desk and she was beyond rude. Yelling and arguing with me and eventually putting her hand up and walking away. I tried to talk to a man and he was willing to fix it for me and offered to let me keep the food that was wrong. The lady was quick to rip it out of my hand and tell me I would not be getting anything. I ve worked in restaurants and customer service and this was the worst service I ve ever received. Any other restaurant would offer apologies at the least, if not comping our whole meal considering we waited double the time, got yelled at, and didn t even get the right food.

We love this place! Whenever we visit and no matter how long, this is our go to place. Havent found better, and honestly dont need too. Enjoy!

Has been a favourite restaurant of mine in the past and Ive been going for more than 25 years but the recent changes made by new management has completely ruined the experience. Have been there twice in last month and both were horrible experiences. I wont be back.

We ordered the Won Ton soup. It was very good! Probably the best Won Tons Ive ever had! It also came with smaller, thin, flat noodles in the soup that were also very good! We ordered for pickup and arrived early. Whatever was being cooked while we smelled delicious! We look forward to trying more of the menu items on our next visit. Definitely a place worth trying.

We love the black been beaf sizzling dish. All the food is great and the service is very nice.

Everything was delicious! We ordered a variety of dishes. We started with Vegetable spring rolls with plum sauce. They were fried to perfection, very tasty, and non greasy. Almost addicting eating them. Next, medium sizes wor wonton soup. Very tasty, rich broth, lots of flavour and just the right portion for two people. Id like more wontons and shrimp but would order it again. Last, we had Ginger beef with side of rice. The ginger beef was nice and crunchy, the sauce was light thickness but paired well with the white rice. The rice portion was a bit small but more for a single person. The food was overall great, the price was very reasonable. One thing to improve on is the service by checking on the table more as we were waiting on our drinks until our food was served. To be fair, the restaurant was very busy and they seemed short with staff. They did provide a pitcher of water which tied us over. 5 stars!

Love this restaurant

Ordered from here last night and never will again. What was wrong? Ordered three vegetarian dishes, of which all three combined contained four vegetables, (onions, carrots, broccoli and green peppers) plus mushrooms and tofu. Where were the baby corn, celery, cauliflower, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, eggplant and such you would expect to find in authentic Asian food? To make things worse the veggies and tofu were cut into chunks as though they were intended for a truck stop stew. The spicy Satay was not spicy. The Shanghai noodles were soggy and everything was generally overcooked. Clearly this meal was made by a chef (joke!) who is completely uninspired and very lazy. I paid fifty two dollars for this food and feel like I was robbed. People, do yourselves a favour and DONT EAT HERE!!!

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten, and not cheap either! There are so many better options, I would avoid this! Cheap cuts of meat and no flavour. I ended up throwing everything out, which was a total waste of money.

Definitely the best Chinese food Kelowna has to offer! Not only was it incredibly delish and hot, it was very quick delivery. New favorite restaurant!
