Maki Sushi Restaurant in Kelowna

This is what a real, authentic family restaurant looks (and tastes) like. Dont get me wrong, there are lots of great places to get sushi, but this is the one you should be going to, you just may not know it yet. Please never change, I love you guys.

Maki sushi is one of my favourite places to go! The quality of food and their customer service is amazing. This is a must have and a mandatory stop for me every time I am in Kelowna. I always get my friends and family to try their sushi and everyone has loved it here! I can never get enough of their veggie deluxe roll. Must try!!

After 10 years this is still my go-to sushi place when I visit kelowna. The rolls are always fresh and tasty, the service is friendly, and the food is well priced. I highly recommend the miso soup as a side!

A wonderful little family restaurant. The owners were very hospitable and the service was wonderful. The sushi had great flavors . The Agedashi Tofu and Ika Carage were fresh and yummy!! Very recommend!

A friendly couple here runs a sushi restaurant that gives you better quality than youre paying for. High-quality sushi all around. The yam tempura is a somewhat smaller portion (because its huge at most sushi restaurants) but is a delight, exceptionally crispy.

No frills restaurant, but lovely and accommodating staff! Im on a super restrictive diet right now due to certain circumstances and they are able to make suggestions! Even though normally Id order more exciting menu items, the basic rolls taste super clean and delicious! Highly recommend. If youre looking for a high end date night, probably not the place but definitely for takeout and casual dine in for consistent and delicious sushi

Amazing! I can t eat rice and my daughter does not love spice, they altered things on there menu to fit our needs and the results were delicious! They we re friendly and very accommodating. Would definitely come again!

Favourite sushi in the city! My sister and I have been loyal customers for the past 15y. Locally owned by the most lovely family! Truly, a hidden gem! The veggie deluxe role is a must try! We recently found this restaurant in Doordash and really liked the food. The gyoza is among the best ones I had!

rating for sushi 5 out of 10. We ordered a takeout. Instead of 20 minutes, it took them 30 minutes, Which would be fine if we didnt have to wait in this tiny room with two tables and two meters from the door to the kitchen. I cant call this place sterile. In addition, local criminal-looking homeless people hang out in the parking lot and right next to the doors of this institution. They constantly harass every passerby (which happened to us). I did not advise a woman to visit this place alone. I don t know why the owner of this restaurant cannot somehow solve this problem, but the presence of dirty aggressive homeless people right at the door of the restaurant clearly turns away any normal customer. We never will come again. Sorry.

Visiting from Vancouver and stopped in here for lunch.. I tried the avocado roll and the yam roll.. utterly blown away by how tasty everything was!! Prices are phenomenal and the staff/owner was so friendly. 10/10 experience!!

This Sushi place is my favorite one to go to! Amazing food created with love, and such sweet and kind staff that is always super welcoming! Best Wonton soup in town, thats hand crafted with a hearty broth. Highly recommend to try it amongst the Lamas ebi roll and spicy tuna- but really, everything is delicious here! :)

A hidden gem of a Japanese restaurant. The food all tastes really good, the prices are very affordable and the staff are also very friendly. Becoming my new go to spot for Japanese food. Definitely check them out!

Maki Sushi is hands down the best sushi Ive ever eaten. They are the kindest people, family owned and operated and have been serving delicious and consistent food since I started going there 14+ years ago. The sushi is expertly crafted, from the perfect flavors to the generous amount of filling to rice ratio of the rolls. The fantasy, dancing eel, and BBQ special rolls are must tries and you do not want to miss the chicken spring rolls or miso soup. Thanks Maki!

This restaurant suppports animal cruelty. They allowed their customer to dine in their restaurant leaving the customers dog in a hot car for over an hour. After 45 minutes, of monitoring the dog in 30degeee weather I went inside the restaurant to alert the staff and the staff did nothing!!!! they didnt ask the customer to take their food to go, they didnt help me locate the owner of the dog and they didnt call 911 to support the dog. the customers got aggressive with me informing me that their dog was just fine and that theyve been going outside to give it water every 20 minutes which is not true because I was doing it. 35 minutes after the altercation they finally finished their meal and took the dog home. Claiming to be pet loving owners yet did nothing when I brought it to their attention a dog was being left in a hot car while they provided service to the customer. absolutely disgraceful. We all need to do our part in stopping animal cruelty. sitting back and allowing it to happen makes this restaurant just as guilty as the pet owner.

Ordered a tray and sashimi, every single item that has salmon was smelling disgusting, we order take out(uber eats) when we called the restaurant they blame it to the driver, not even an apology.

Went here on the recommendation of our hotel. The staff were very attentive. The food was fantastic. We had a variety of rolls, sashimi and tempura. We also had the Wonton Soup which was excellent. 5 out of 5

Wonderful, detailed customer service and amazing food. The Karage chicken was perfectly deep fried crispy outside and the chicken inside still so soft and tasty. The sushi rolls we ordered were the perfect size, according to my husband. Will come again and will recommend.

I admit the outside of the restaurant doesnt look too attractive. But the food was amazing! I had fried rice, tempura and wonton soup. They are all very authentic Asian flavor, exactly how I remember them in Taiwan. I would strongly recommend this place.

Ordered a variety of things. Ive had mostly positive things to say about Maki, but tonight was disappointing. Skip has half the menu sadly. Normally I order just sushi, but I changed it up tonight. Tried the beef Don which I thought was donburi and had more broth, flavor, egg... No, it was just a bit of beef and a lb of rice. Came with miso broth, which tasted like burnt soy. The only thing I enjoyed was the beef roll. Asked for more wasabi, never received. Not sure ill be back. Theres better places.

Food arrived hot and it was delicious!!!

The kind of place thats really easy to walk by (and what a shame it would be to do so!) Everything from the miso soup, to the sushi, even the wassabi was very fresh. The wassabi was especially notable, it was very smooth and not too spicy, so you could load up a lot more of it on the sushi and really enjoy it there. Tempura stays crispy after a long time, all of the fish and vegetables taste fresh! I dont have any criticisms just suggestions: - I thought both tempura and edamame could have a bit more seasoning. The tempura did come with a sauce but there wasnt enough of it, just a bit of salt would be great. - I was surprised to not see tea on your menu, given that everything esle is done very dilligently and traditionally. But I understand during covid you would probably need to invest in paper cups. - Also more covid related, but the only dessert offered is ice cream. That doesnt work very well for takeout, maybe swapping that for mochi or some other non-melting dessert would be a good move. But thats very small things and totally not worth taking a star off. Thankyou for your service and for the amazing food!

Welcoming atmosphere and delicious sushi at reasonable prices. Small spot, easy to miss the sign but often it s these kind of smaller family run places that go the extra mile and care about what they do. My granddaughter and I came 15 min before closing and we were able to order and eat in after closing without feeling rushed. Very warm and friendly owners. Being new to Kelowna this is a restaurant I will definitely go back to.

Miso soup very fishy ...lost my appetite to eat the sushi

Hidden gem! I recently discovered this place and was very happy! Sometimes its hard to find good veggie sushi (as I dont like any seafood), but theirs was the BEST! Fresh, great textures (great crunch to the rolls with tempura veg inside!) and flavors. The VEGGIE DELUXE (it has a soy paper wrapper) is my absolute favorite!! The Kelowna maki is also great, as well as their yam roll and yam avocado roll! Also, I always ask at sushi places if their miso has fish/oyster sauce in it (and unfortunately most places do), but theirs doesnt (they said its actually vegan technically)! I was so excited to be able to have miso soup! Obviously I cant speak for the seafood rolls, but their veg sushi is top notch (so Id assume the same goes for the rest of their sushi). The service is always friendly and prompt as well. My only minor disappointment was that they use the PINK pickled ginger (which has artificial dye).

Good price for decent sushi

The only reason I gave 1 star less is because we got there at 7:20ish and ordered right away as I alrdy new what to order. They brought our coke but we had to wait for an hour for our food, around 8:35ish our food was served (coke was alrdy warm and less fuzzy) we just had to eat quick and leave cuz the closing was at 9. I know its a small dine in but their food and customer service is amaIng thats why they have alot of sell so maybe they should bring more people to work for them so that everything would be perfect and fast

Great sushi. Ordered a few rolls and they tasted very fresh with very soft rice. The miso soup had more substance than what other sushi places offer. The tempura was also great. Highly recommend.

Our first experience was truly great! We ordered takeout and there was a slight mistake with our order. They were just closing up as I called to sort things out. Not only did they apologize, they prepared the rolls and delivered a fresh order in a matter of minutes. We will certainly be back and we cannot say thank you enough for your above and beyond service!

The front of house staff was beyond kind. The sushi is one of the best Ive had in Kelowna !! 11/10 :)

Was told my delivery order would be 45 minutes. Over an hour and 15 minutes later I had to call the store because my food still hadnt arrived and then they sent the driver. On arrival the driver had the nerve to say that customers in the restaurant are served first. At this point my family is starving so we ate what was delivered, even though it didnt look fresh and tasted bad. Pretty sure my order was allowed to just sit there for at least half an hour after prepared I am also a customer, and I paid just as much for my food as someone in the restaurant. Disgusting way to treat a formerly loyal customer. I will not be returning.

Food is fantastic. The flavor will satisfy all but those that have lived Japan. The tempura is light and crisp. The parts of the meal that should be warm are. You can tell that pride is taken in the preparation of your food. Service has always been top notch any time I have gone here over the years. It is a must visit for lunch when you are in Kelowna.

Went there tonight to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Very nice experience. The Hospitality: Came there at 8:30pm and still got everything I ordered even though they were gonna close at 9pm. We were welcomed with a genuine smile from the lady and the girl upon our arrival. Very nice and homey place and the family that works there is so nice to us. This is my second time visiting them and yet they remember me and my girlfriend from 3 months ago. The food: we ordered Chicken Karaage, sushi, beef Don, Coconut chicken curry. Our food took a very reasonable time to prepare (only 10-15 mins) and it was made fresh and hot in their open kitchen. The Karaage is a must try if you haven t. Even though the menu says chicken Karaage wings they make actual chicken Karaage which is so much better, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside . Do yourself a favour and try it !! Next thing I loved the most was the coconut curry.. loaded with chicken and seasonal vegetables and cooked in a coconut milk sauce. I am most certainly going back there.

This is by far my favorite place in Kelowna to stop for sushi. The owners are so amazing and nice and the sushi is delicious . The rolls are fresh and creative and if youre looking for something new AI highly recommend the Kelowna Roll. It has the sweetness of mango but has a little spicy kick to it as well. Its a very refreshing and light roll.

Very very friendly people can mostly specialize in take out but if you go there personally they will give you a really nice service. They have a really good tempura Don which is tempura over rice in the presentation of their Sushi is lovely. They also have very fast service because they are usually not busy as they primarily do takeout. Their banana ice cream is excellent as well and I really hope people could find this hidden treasure because it is such an amazing and underrated place

Some of the best sushi in town. Not a big restaurant, so it feels homey. Always amazing customer service; I almost felt like we were friends the first time I went in. I am a regular and will continue to be. Great food!!

This little gem is tucked away to one side in the shadow of a beauty supply shop at the strip mall and if it wasnt for checking on the app we would have certainly missed it!A mom & pop place and the couple running it are very friendly. Small place with 4 booths and few table & chairs but it appeared clean and one can tell decor was not a high priority!

Love Japanese food

I will describe my experience by how it unfolded. My friend and I were in search of a sushi place to go for a quick bite, found this place and decided to give it a go! As we entered the facility, we noticed that it wasnt busy and there was only one couple sitting there, but all the tables are dirty with dishes everywhere. We had to wait until the lady cleans a table for us. I must say that the lady is very very nice and polite! We looked at the menu, and decided to get the sushi lunch box for $11. When it arrived, it looked good but the sushi was really small. Upon eating it, I felt like it wasnt fresh and tested funny.... We finished it with the complementary miso soup. Later that night, my friend messaged me about the stomach pain that she is experiencing. Now it is the next day, she had to call in sick to work, and I am typing this review while Im having stomach aches, sitting on the toilet. I understand that this is a mom and pop shop, but there is no way that people should be served food that is not good to consume. Visit at your own risk!
