Very good homemade Mexican food

A friendly and affordable kind of place. The portions are quite large, so you can share a couple of things rather than get your own starter and main. For drinks, the spicy orange marg is unbelievable. Everything on the menu is excellent, but the best tacos are the al pastor, cauliflower and beef barbacoa. The burritos (regular and ahogado) are large and tasty. A unique item is the beef barbacoa huarache, which is like a giant sopes (thick tortilla) covered in meat and goodness. Happy hour offers great value for food and drinks. Parking: Usually can find parking on a side street or in the paid lot behind the building. It can get full in the summer when the beach is busy.

Amazing Mexican food! A great variety and full of flavor. The margaritas are very good too. Vegetarian options: I had cauliflower instead of meat in my burrito and it was absolutely delicious.

We have ordered take out and dined in. Every time the food has been delicious and full of flavour with generous portions. The burrito ahogato and enchiladas with the green sauce is our go-to choice.

One of the best places to eat in town. Especially on a Wednesday with their taco loco deal. The taco loco is the perfect balance of refreshing veggies, hearty meat, crunchy deep fried shell and juicy sauces. This place is great to go for a date or family hang because the volume is never too loud or overbearing. 10/10 would eat again.

Very good delicious food great service very friendly staff.

The aguachile was a highlight, but the tacos were fairly bland and very dry. The sauces provided on the side did not pair well with the tacos and also did not taste good on their own. Had to ask for plates to share an appetizer. Prices were high for the quality of the food. Margaritas were priced high ($13).

First the good: The aguachile is incredible, the flavour is amazing, not enough tortillas with it but it was very good! The bad: we had to ask for plates for the shareable appetizer. The service was subpar. The tacos were terrible. We had the chincken tinga which was okay. The pork and the al pastor. The pork was so dry it was barely chewable or edible. Also VERY bland. The Al pastor was only a step above that but so dry and so bland again. The sauces that they give you are also bland and the flavour profile doesn t go with the flavours of the food. We wanted to try the churros and a drink but after the terrible food figured it wasn t worth the risk and went elsewhere for drinks and dessert. Could be improved with better sauces that match flavour profiles. Ie a lime crema, or pico de gallo or salsa. Could add some flavour and moisture to the meats for the tacos.

Overall a good experience only 2 minor complaints is the speed of service was slow as well as our initial greeting. The servers were friendly and attentive.the frozen mango margaritas are top notch. My meal was fantastic and would highly recommended the tacos locos. My wifes complaint was the meat in one taco was very dry and the second one she said was lacking seasoning. All and all a good experience and will return again.

Taco Tuesday here is going to be a regular part of my schedule now. Absolutely delicious and a fantastic margarita selection!

Wow blown away how good this place was. The happy Hour had everything we needed for food and drinks. Tacos are so good and great size! Staff were so nice from the door to the bill. Definitely will return soon and try some more of those Margs! Kid-friendliness: They make margs for kids need I say more!

The server my family got was excellent, very kind, answered our questions with a polite attitude. The atmosphere was really cool! Amazing design and layout of the restaurant. Would recommend anyone looking to try a new place. Parking: It can be quite tricky to find parking as it is across from the lake. Price wise it s not too bad. We paid 8 bucks for 4 hours

Service is incredibly slow. It wasn t that it was busy, but our table was missed for over 20 minutes after being seated. The location is nice and the food was alright, but the service is incredibly slow.

We order take out regularly and have NEVER been disappointed. The Taco Loco is large enough that I get 3 meals out of it!!! And tonight, my gawd, the chips and Guac were PHENOMENAL!!! Vegetarian options: The cauliflower vegetarian taco loco option is fantastic!!!!

So good! We usually go to a Mexican place downtown but honestly I dont think we ever will again. Hugos was delicious, best tortilla soup ever, decent patio, good service. 5/5 would recommend, will definitely return.

Ordered Hugo s via Uber eats. I was very excited because I love it at home and wanted to try the new Okanagan location. Was extremely disappointed when I got my food. I got the taco loco, which I ve had many times. It was entirely rice & beans, hardly any chicken. Got a flight of tacos as well, the meat in the tacos was extremely dry and lacked flavor. Overall really disappointed in this location, will likely not be visiting a Hugo s location again.

Nobody came by to take our order so we left after 15 minutes. A table of four seated after us had their order taken within five minutes. Terrible service. We will never go back.

I like the food but for the love of god, every time I order like 7 things and you guys only give like two seperate half filled tiny plastic containers of sauce. Please give more sauce!!!

Best tacos in town! 10/10 food , allergy friendly! I have an egg and diary allergy and they were so great about it and the tacos were the best I ve ever had! Churros are also dairy and egg free and SOOO good! Definitely the best Mexica in town! Happy hour is so worth the prices and the portions are great!

Sat on the patio here and ordered a beer and chips/guac and then our entrees. A bigger table arrived shortly after we received our entrees, at which point our waitress completely disappeared for the next 35 minutes. After that we went to the bar for our bill and promptly left. Disappointing as the initial experience was positive.

I love Hugos! Its one of my favourite spots in Kelowna. The burrito ahogado is my go - to (be sure to bring a container for leftovers!) its delicious and so affordable for the size of burrito you get. The spicy orange margarita is excellent! The location is great, close to Gyro Beach and the patio is dog friendly! Highly recommend.

We were looking for a nice spot to enjoy a light lunch during our family beach day and Hugos knocked it out of the park. They were full up but still accommodated us and got us a table. The food was top notch, everyone loved their meals and it came out quickly. But most of all the service was impeccable. Diego G was our server and hes a true professional at delivering an excellent experience while making a memorable impression. Our new favourite spot!

Ordered the Hugo s bowl. Literally half the bowl was black beans . Everything else was decent .

Stopped by today for the first time for lunch, the service was great but the Baja fish tacos, enchiladas, and churros were THE best we ve had in Kelowna!

Margaritas are great especially if you hit taco Tuesdays, prices are very reasonable! Food is really good and a great place to meet up with friends for a evening out. Summer can get busy go get there early!

Our go to for Mexican! The tostaditas are SO good, as are the enchiladas.

We were a party of six and chose this restaurant on a local recommendation for Mexican food. The food was so good that I forgot to take pictures. It exceeded not only my expectation, but all of my family. The only caveat the kids menu isn t great. I had the Taco Loco, my uncle and aunt a burrito, my wife and MIL had the bowl. All were satisfied and the presentation was spot on. Highly recommend this place.

Went here looking for authentic mexican food. This seems more like an attempt to do some sort of fusion between mexican and who-knows-what. The only cheese they used in the dishes we ordeted was mozzarella... did not even taste mexican. Shredded chicken was overcooked. Mexican rice had zero flavor and was actually rice pilaf! Others gave high reviews of food and alcohol... maybe you need to be drunk to enjoy this food. Very disapointed, will not return.

Without a doubt, this is the go-to place for an authentic Mexican culinary journey!

We ordered the valentines churros which tasted amazing! Presented so beautifully too. I mixed up my pickup time and they still helped me out and I was able to get mine early. Amazing customer service!

We were very disappointed in this place. The food was VERY bland and did not taste authentic at all. It was a little bit expensive and we expected much more for the price. The location is great, right across from Gyro beach. We also enjoyed the drinks and the service was very friendly (although we had three different waiters serve us which was a bit confusing). This place has a lot of potential if they could improve the quality of the food.

Delicious Mexican food. Ordered a variety of tacos, and 2 drinks. The Licor43 espresso drink was very . Guava mojito was also . Definitely try this place out if you are in the area.

These guys accommodated a large group of us last night. Authentic food and drinks were delicious and generous portions. Service was very fast, friendly and efficient. It was a great experience all-around. Would recommend.

Went their for drinks and food. Margarita was 12 dollars and came with a dried out orange slice. Honestly it was one of the worst Ive had in town. No flavour. We each got the 3 tacos for 18. Not a good value at all as two of them were literally meat, raw onions and some cilantro. One had some pineapple on it and it was my favorite because they were all dry and the pineapple was the only thing giving it moisture. Otherwise the taste of the meat was pretty good. Thats all I can saw about it because our server literally never came back to ask us how we were doing or if we wanted more drinks. She did walk by us at least twice empty handed. I had to approach the bar for napkins because we had none. I told them the service wasnt great and they apologized and said they were busy, but the place was empty for 20 minutes and they never came by. Highly doubt I will be back which is a shame because I live so close.

I went to Hugos for an event. The dance event itself was 5 out of 5 stars. The ticket for the event included a complimentary drink. What should have taken 10 seconds to check my identification for proof of being 19 years turned into 3 minutes. I handed my identification to an employee he looked at it then took it behind the counter to another employee. Both employees stood there behind the counter discussing my identification for a solid 3 minutes. My identification is valid. This made me feel very uncomfortable.

Absolutely fabulous tacos, margaritas and churros! We visited Hugos initially for a churro for dessert and ended up staying for 2 tacos each! We tried the Nopales, carnitas, chicken tinga and beef asada. They were all delicious and you could tell everything was scratch made. The salsas to compliment also excellent. Our service was great and our kids both loved the food. Highly recommend!

The food and service has been so great - and the spicy watermelon margarita is a must try! Most recent visit was with a group of 12 and everyone was raving about their food - Also a great choice for all different dietary restrictions

Terrible service, my dinner was done before we got our drinks, and it s advertised as a picture of margaritas, but it s a tiny little jug with 3/4 ice. Food was good tho, but the service was horrible! Prices are way too high for what you get Food : 4/5

Have been to Hugo s a few times now and it s honestly just really underwhelming. Beautiful location and the decor is fine, but very mediocre otherwise. The food is quite dull and falls short compared to many of the other great Mexican restaurants in Kelowna.

We are big fans of the Clayton Hugo s and had to come visit the new Kelowna location while on vacation. We were lucky to have our large party accommodated on their soft opening night and everyone worked hard to make sure we were satisfied. This is some of the best, authentic Mexican food you can find. Fresh made tortillas, chips and guac give it a leg up. Their drinks are some of the best and most unique flavours of margaritas I ve ever had. This family run restaurant and detail in the decor makes a great immersive experience. A must visit whether you re local or vacationing!

It was our first time in Kelowna and this place was a gem. Someone recommended to me in social media and it was totally worthy. The place is perfect, in front of the lake, the food was perfectly served and so tasty. I loved my tacos de pescado it was like been in Mexico. Thank you so much for a great evening with my family. I totally recommend this place.

Wanted to go for Mexican and stopped at Hugo s. The service at this place was definitely sub par. Our waiter as indicated on the receipt was Cesar Reyes. He took our order, never service checked us. And never came back to see if we wanted anything else. Also we waited about 10 minutes to get a receipt all while he just stood there at the bar. If this was a case of us waiting because he was busy is one thing. But he wasn t busy. We wanted to order more and we wanted dessert but he never even came to the table to ask . Nor did he ever offer refills or anything. I had to at the end finally walk up to the bar to ask for the bill, to which he replied I ll bring it to the table. Anyways, good food. Lazy waiter and bad service. It s too bad because I ve not been this frustrated at a waiter ever. Again, he was just standing there, engaged in nothing and letting the tables to fend for themselves. Our table next to us felt the same way. Other than that, it was great food.

I totally get that this restaurant is new and they are still working out the bugs. We were a party of four. We ordered tacos and a burrito. The burrito was served luke warm. The tacos $18 for 3 were somewhat dry except the shells which were oily and fell apart before we finished eating. The chicken taco was fine the pork and beef were dry and seriously needed pico de gallo or some other sauce to improve the taste other than hot sauce. Our waitress was lovely and attentive. We brought our own seat cushions, chairs are uncomfortable.

Slowest service we ve ever experienced, food was just okay, shockingly uncomfortable chairs. We will stick to Mucho Burrito.

We ordered on Skip the Dish and someone called at 12pm to warn us it would be an extra 20 mins. They then called again and said it would be another 20 mins, so our food should have arrived at 12:40. We waited, and by 20 after 1 we tried to contact them to ask where the food was, they have no phone number, so I sent a DM on Instagram and an email with no answer. Our food finally arrived at 1:50pm, it was mediocre and luke warm, unfortunately. I was so disappointed and frustrated, would not recommend. They did try to make it up by sending 2 cans of pop, however we had ordered 6 meals. TLDR: Not worth your time. How sad, I really had high hopes for Hugos.

I had the pleasure of enjoying a meal at Hugo s Mexican kitchen and it did not disappoint! The food tasted AMAZING. The presentation was beautiful and portions were great, the location next to gyro tops it off. Their cocktails are delicious and the service was speedy. Will definitely be back again!

There are a few great Mexican spots in town. But if you are out near Gyro. Check this place out. The drinks are great and the food is fantastic with large portions and good service.

Good Mexican food with sidewalk patio. The Taco de pescao (Fish Tacos) were tasty, but for the price I felt there should have been a side with them or at last some taco chips. The Famous taco loco was also tasty, good flavour. Only negative was the chairs were uncomfortable and maybe some plants on the patio to add atmosphere would be nice.

Had a great meal and service from a gal that it was her first day. Only down fall was the chairs, couldnt eat and get out of there fast enough due to these. Look cool, but brutally painful. Will give it another go if I can get a booth.

Stopped in for a bite to eat after work. The location has very limited parking so be mindful of that in advance. The service was okay, people were friendly but it did seem to take some time for most requests. The food and drinks were good, but make sure you ask for their selection of sauces, it could use a flavour boost. Overall, I can see this place becoming great and make for a good evening out in Kelowna but just needs some time to work through the initial opening pains.

The food and drinks were great. But the service was so slow, we didn t get drinks until 25 mins after sitting there. I watched the owner/ manager walk past our food in the window multiple times. Our server looked like she was serving the whole place with no help. It was a shame!

My husband and I went to Hugo s last night for a date night and had a great time. The service was prompt and friendly. We loved the spicy margaritas and both of our meals were delicious. Great prices and ambiance. We will definitely be back!

The aesthetics and vibes of this place is very nice. It does make you feel that you re transported back to Mexico. However, the food was not as authentic but quite on par. The service was okay. We ordered the fish tacos and the three veggie tacos and it didn t blow our minds and palates. The tofu chorizo taco was quite oily. Additionally, we felt like the prices of those tacos were quite high especially when they didn t satisfy those taste buds.

Best mexican food restaurant in kelowna currently that i have seen. The burrito and tostadas are by far the best out of any place ive been to. The portions are big as well so definitely a good place if you eat a lot. They also have home made hot sauces which is a big plus. The drinks are really good too

Had a delicious mexican meal here the other day. Food was delicious and portions were inline with portions. Margarita was yummy. If you are looking for a great Mexican restaurant I would recommend stopping in and enjoying the food.

Parking: Great little find across from Gyro Beach. Tacos were great, very authentic and the margaritas were delicious! The only downfall here is the parking. We got lucky and found a spot in the street but often we ve been unable to find a spot for businesses in this building and have had to make alternate plans.

We have eaten here a few times and can say that the food is as good as the best Mexican food anywhere in North America including Mexico. If you haven t been there please do so and experience the tremendous flavours and service.
