Broken Anchor Cafe and Catering. Our cafe is a casual place with fun events, good eats, and a loud (yet friendly) host. Our food is mostly gluten free and absolutely delicious. We have been catering since 2011, and love making your events special. Give us a call to see if we can make your event spectacular!
I just had a 30$ fish stick with 12 fries and the driest, most bland coleslaw I've ever tasted. The fish was well cooked, well battered amd very tasty but it was the size of an exaggerated Capt Highliner fish stick. Decent fries, and good fries are a cheap way to distract from the tiny piece of fish but there were 12... maybe 13. The coleslaw was essentially dry chopped cabbage. Just moved to town and I love fish and chips but I will never pay $30 for a kids meal here again. Edit... Thanks for the suggestion, it shows you didn't really read the review. The food was good, it was just too expensive for too little. (Except the dry coleslaw, got lots of that). And I literally said I won't be back, so thank you for the suggestion to go to another restaurant... smh 🤦♂️
Totally gluten free friers, will wash their hands before touching your food if you let them know you have any issues with gluten. Lovely people and atmosphere. I highly recommend eating here.
We dined here for the first time and were particularly interested in Fish and Chips. We had the cod, which came with some of the best fries we have ever eaten, and a lovely cole slaw. Presentation was nice and the fish was just perfect - fresh, light and not greasy. We also noted that when a couple arrived on the patio with a few dogs in tow, the waitress came right out to make sure they had a bowl of fresh water. All in all, a great experience. We will be back, and wish the owner and staff a stable and prosperous future.
I recently had the unfortunate experience of trying the clams dish at this restaurant, and I have to say it was one of the worst meals I've ever had. The broth tasted like dirty water—completely bland and unappetizing. To make matters worse, the clams themselves were not cleaned properly, leaving a gritty and unpleasant texture in every bite. It's shocking that food of this quality is being served to customers. This kind of carelessness in food preparation is unacceptable. I would not recommend this dish to anyone.
My first time trying this lovely place. I dined on the patio and to say I was impressed is an understatement! I ordered the Cod & Chips. The cod was so fresh, perfectly cooked in a light crispy/not greasy batter. I was told it was gluten free.Good news for many people I will refer. The chips were golden brown . The coleslaw and tartar sauce were easily the best I've ever had. The friendly service will definitely bring me back . Thanks for a wonderful experience Broken Anchor ⚓
I decided to come try it after seeing the reviews online. It did not disappoint! I ordered 2 pieces Cod. It definitely wasn’t cheap - but it was delicious! Their fish was a good thickness and crunchy! Fries were delicious too! I could not finish all the fries. I came for a late lunch so there was only 1 other table. Server was nice and friendly - my baby was sleeping in the car so I asked how long it would take. I was surprised she was able to tell me 7 minutes! I went out to check on my child after paying for take out. My baby had woken up so I decided to dine in instead. She was very accommodating! I would definitely recommend this place to my friends!
We haven’t had fish and chips for a long time but decided to check out The Broken Anchor as they offer a gluten free batter. - Wild pacific cod ($21.55 for 1/2 lb) - cod was extremely disappointing; completely dry and overcooked. Fries were soggy, limp and bland. - Steamed clams & mussels ($19.00) - white wine sauce with garlic was decent but something you could replicate at home. Was hoping to find a gem but left Broken Anchor disappointed. Try somewhere else for your fish & chip fix.
The Table is the ONLY fish and chips worth getting in Kelowna. There’s nothing like walking into a fish market full of the best, freshest BC seafood only to find they’re frying it up in house at a high high level. The staff are consistently friendly and accommodating. Serving up crisp and lightly battered fish with proper chips that are almost like a drug. Look no further folks, find this gem for yourselves.
We had take out fish and chips and fish tacos. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the food was amazingly good. We will definitely come back for more!!
This place has great food! If you crave a great cod burger or an oyster poor boy do not hesitate this is where you want to go!
Such great food, good drinks too 100% recommend Food
Loved the fish and chips Great service
Ordered the halibut/chips. With a side of prawns , the fish was lightly battered and cooked perfectly. The chips were also fresh and crispy. Best I ve had since moving to Kelowna
A hidden gem. Great food. Very light breaded fish. It was wonderful.
The Thai rice was delicious
Best gluten free fish & chips! Highly recommend! The poutine is great as well. Such a rare thing to find gluten free!!
Daniel was amazing with his customer service! We felt like family even though it was our first time here. The food was beyond amazing!!!!! So good. Loved every bite. Open one in Seattle please lol Go eat at this place!! Food
Great food and absolutely no issues (have celiac disease). Would highly recommend! Dietary restrictions: I have celiac disease but absolutely no issues with the food. Dedicated fryer for gluten free items. Light fluffy batter on fish and fries were really good! Highly recommend.
We had the pleasure of having dinner here for the first time tonight. Food was great! Exceptional service from the staff, especially Daniel, who went above and beyond to be sure we were taken care of and that we were enjoying our meals. Thanks again for a great night. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free fish and chips! The best!
This is my son favorite place!
Ate here twice on our trip to Kelowna. Between us we tried the cod and chips, battered prawns, and chicken tenders. Perfect for coeliacs with gluten free fryers, batter and chips GF too, all super tasty, wouldnt know its GF. Staff super friendly and helpful. Food quality very good. Very quick service. Highly recommend. Dietary restrictions: Perfect for gluten free and coeliacs! All batter is gluten free. Fryers are gluten free. Very tasty and light batter.
We went for tacos which were very soggy. The seating outside is super loud with traffic and it felt more like a cantina with restaurant prices.
One of the best fish n chips I have ever tried, and I have eaten alot of fish n chips. Light, crunchy, and flavorful batter. Must try in kelowna!!
This was the best meal we had over a week spent in Kelowna. Fish and chips and oysters were both awesome! Food : 5/5
Great Gluten Free option for fish and chips! Food was good. Opted to sit outside as it was very cold inside.
Service was good not much weight time. Seafood chowder was tasteless I dont believe they use cream. No crackers for the soup. Cod was good prawns were good charge extra for a cocktail sauce after paying $44 for a small soup one piece of cod and prawns . Very pricey... and fountain cola which was flat $4 ... I will not be coming back
Had a wonderful lunch. The salmon tacos are delicious. The fish and chips are also very tasty. The fish has a light crisp batter. Finding somewhere that makes gluten free this delicious is a rare find. Dietary restrictions: Very Gluten free friendly
Awesome! Had a very nice dinner. It s a little place where you can sit both inside and out. Mostly fish dishes but also chicken and vegetarian. Only the sandwiches are with gluten. The batter is GF and so is the frier. Special recommended is the feta dish as a share.
Food is absolutely awesome..staff were good, seating has a fast food feel to it,but patio outside is available.
Great fish and chips
Really fresh oysters and tasty cod and chips.
Teagan the chef was super percise and quick with execution. Delivering the most amazing shuck on the oyster and perfect plating. I couldnt have asked for a better meal than this. I will be coming back specifically for teagans service. Thanks !!
Great place, friendly service with delicious food and lots of gluten free / celiac friendly options
Just had a superb lunch at this restaurant. Service was superb and the cod fish and chips were the best I ve had outside of the UK. Highly recommended.
Comeon... $17 plus tax and its not even a meal. Atleast load up on fris at that price. I legit have to go get something else to fill me up lol. Pretty bad. Tastes good tho. shame
So good! Best fish and chips in Kelowna
Dietary restrictions: Almost all of the menu is gluten free. Great celiac awareness. Good service. Above all each and every one of the menu items we ordered were super delicious. Food
We quite enjoyed our meals
We had lunch today and were extremely disappointed for the second time in successive visits. Today we ordered prawn tacos that had zero seasoning on the prawns and were served by a young lady that was not outfitted in clothing that does not represents a decent restaurant. Overall, not much seemed like you want to come back to back and order food. Strongly suggest outfitting your servers with branded uniforms especially in light of the fact that a new steakhouse is opening under the same ownership.
Service was good but the food was the worst fish and chips I have ever had was super grease and the coleslaw was just bagged NOT THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS
I have been coming here for over three years and really enjoy the food (and celiac friendly)! I ve spoken to the owner on previous occasions, he is super friendly and passionate about what he does, and I like what he s done with the place over the years. I ve previously given them five stars, but unfortunately in the last few months the quality of the service and consistency of the food I m getting has gone down a bit. It seems that the newer staff aren t quite as friendly and can be easily frustrated by small requests. Also, the fries have started always coming under cooked, so I would definitely recommend ordering crispy or extra crispy now. The harissa aioli which I used to love and the coleslaw aren t quite as good as they used to be, but this could just be due to product availability, as I know they ve had some issues with that more recently. Overall a good place to eat, but I wish the service was as good as it used to be in previous years.
I ve dined here three times now and each time the service was really bad.
The meal was great. Had the fish and poutine. Its very tasty. Lots of gluten free options. I will definitely go back next time Im in town. Dietary restrictions: Basically, the only things not Gluten free are the sandwiches. The fish, chips and poutine are delicious.
Just yum. Clean, fresh, delicious. Definitely recommend.
Owner made us Fresh Lobsters despite not in the menu. He was absolutely super nice. And foods was fantastic.!! We re coming back again for sure .
We ordered takeout here not too long ago and got the chicken strip meal, and 2 piece halibut meal to share. The chicken strips and the dill mustard that comes with it were great. We were hoping for a thicker chip to come with the meals but they were still very good. The coleslaw was good as well and the portions were big which was nice! Unfortunately, the halibut was very overcooked, to the point where it was rubbery. The coating on it was very nice and light, yet still crispy which I personally loved. My partner prefers the thicker battered fish & chips - so if youre looking for that, its a bit different here. It was a shame to spend $40 on quality fish for it to be overcooked. We dont crave seafood often but I would still give it another shot.
If you see the Broken Anchor food truck around, you need stop and get some of the freshest, tastiest fish-n-chips you can get in Kelowna! I was checking out all the food trucks at the Denim On(off) the Diamond Saturday October 7, 2023 and this truck was just calling for me haha. The employees there were great and super friendly. I had the 2 piece cod which came with Kennebec potato fries, house-made tartar sauce, lemon, and slaw. The portion size was perfect and everything was served HOT! The fish was thick and perfectly cooked. The slaw has a hint of curry which brings back good memories of enjoying fish-n-chips in England. I was watching the order after me being made, which was the dirty fries, those looked delicious as well! I tried to get a photo of the food, but it was so good, that I forgot to check if the picture turned out... Looking forward to my next adventure at Broken Anchor! Dietary restrictions: All of the Fish & Chips are gluten-free! Kid-friendliness: If your kid loves fish and chips, this is the place!
Food was good. I must oit of touch with fish n chip costs. Yikes
That was some bloody good fish wnd chips! Wow!
If you have Celiacs this is a must visit. Sarah the head chef is amazing! Great food and vibe!
My dad wanted a seafood meal for his bday tonight so we came here. I also had been wanting to try it. Very cute and intimate setting with perfect decor. Amazing food with great portions. Met the owner Ross who was kind enough to give us some history of the place. Server was very accommodating and personable. It was even better then anticipated. Perfect bday meal for my dad thank you. Will be back soon!!
Was with friends perfect to go is 1 pm Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Parking: Other stores around Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp cement
Great Happy Hour and the food was very good. The Cod Sandwich was so good. Will defiantly be back!
One of the best fish and chips, the tartar sauce is amazing.
Fantastic fish and chips! Highly recommended!
Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access via ramp Food
Whole crew is awesome, fast service, welcoming atmosphere, looks great, tastes great, and uses all local produce and drinks ticks all the boxes. Awesome!
BEST batter for fish & prawns ON THE PLANET!!!! SO delicious and crispy.
Great place. Great staff. I live across the street. Always hook me up on my poutine! Edit.. A little disappointed with dinner tonight. Barely any fries and the fish. Really?Hopefully this is a one off because I always go here. Food
Exceptional food, outstanding service. I have a celiac gluten allergy and have long given up on being able to enjoy fish and chips. To my surprise and delight, I discovered that Broken Anchor has managed to split the atom and deliver delicious fish and chips in a completely gluten free kitchen. The fish is fresh and succulent and the star of the show, with a light batter taking backstage for added flavour - but not overpowering the fish as you get with most fish & chips restaurants. It was so good I couldnt help but over-eat, yet I still didnt feel sluggish and heavy afterwards. The fries were top notch as well and were voraciously devoured by our party of six. As out-of-towners we are already planning our second dinner at Broken Anchor for this weeks ski trip. Also a note on the service. There was a mix-up in my large order (my mistake) leaving me unable to pick up the initial order. Aiden, the manager, was friendly and professional in handling it - even though it meant he would be out-of-pocket for the order since their high quality standards prevented them from redirecting orders from the kitchen if it could not be plated within a few minutes of preparation. This is the kind of customer experience that seems to be in short supply these days. I cannot recommend Broken Anchor highly enough, especially for those with gluten allergies or sensitivities. Enjoy!!
Great place with great gluten free fish and chips Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options Food : 5/5 |
Great meal. I recommend this place.
It was well worth the risk! We hadn t tried them out before. VERY happy. Expensive as everything is up at the resort, but healthy portions of high quality fish and wonderful poutine. Nothing wrong with the atmosphere - cafeteria style and just fine. Just not high end.
Dietary restrictions: All the batter is deliciously Gluten Free! And GF items are clearly marked on the menu. Food
Gross
Ross, thank you so much for your fast, professional service. Looking forward to trying your menu again. Ty
WOW. Best halibut meal ever. Not cheap, but totally worth it. Love their food.
The star of the fish and chips was the coleslaw and the fries. The halibut was a bit overcooked. Will try again.
After not being able to enjoy fish and chips for years, my son and I were so excited to find this place. We came with a party of 6 and everyone was raving about the fresh, homemade food. The fish was perfectly battered and crispy and my husbands fried chicken sandwich was also delicious. The coleslaw was excellent as well as the seasar salad. Highly recommend. We will definitely be back! Dietary restrictions: Dedicated gluten free options
I had fish with a poutine. It was fine but the gem of this restaurant is the Seafood Stew! I brought it home and went back today for another!! The chef was very friendly and I liked the place. Small but the new outdoor patio will be a huge bonus. I m taking my sister there for the avocado tempura! Awesome little appt!
Parking: Fish and chips were delicious! Not overcooked or greasy! The coleslaw was delicious too
Excellent place for halibut and chips. We will definitely go back again.
First time I have tried Broken Anchor (next to Codfathers) for fish and chips. Pleasantly surprised. I had two pieces of battered cod and chips served with coleslaw. Fish tasted very fresh, but portions are small so definitely order at least two. Only half a dozen tables so be prepared to line up if you wish to eat in. Parking: Plenty of free parking in front of Codfathers.
This place does some killer gluten free fish and chips. The dirty fries are a must have in my opinion but everything weve tried weve enjoyed. Check it out!
Clam chowder , deep fried oysters, fish and chips, deep fried avocado, all gluten free lunch ! Dont think we need dinner tonight!!
Very disappointed. 2 super small pieces of fish with very small portion of fries. Been here many times, wont be going back.
It was a VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT for a dinner over $90 for 5 small pieces of fish and uneatable dark yuck fries!!!! After reading the good comments we thought we should try but instead of having a treat to ourselves, we had frustration!!! Never again!!!
Best place for good gluten free food. I appreciate this resturaunt soooo much
The people were friendly and the service was good. The fish was the size of a pack of playing cards. The fries seemed soft and reheated and the colslaw was soggy like it had been sitting for many days. I would recommend Shady Rest or the Creekside Pub. I will never go back. They should really take down the Best fish and chips in in Kelowna signs everywhere. I also dined in so dont try and blame it on delivery.
Went here on a whim to get some gluten free fish and chips, and oh boy it was light flakey and beautiful. And it s the only spot that has ever made coleslaw that I ever bothered touching, made with curry and apple cider!! Highly recommend this place to all for a lovely lunch with great accommodating and friendly staff! Dietary restrictions: Plenty of gluten free options available for all those with dietary needs.
Best service from the restaurant and absolutely amazing food! Would come back here every time we are in town. The fact that the fish and chips are gluten free is mind blowing! They beat regular fish and chips
Great service and food.
I ve been here on multiple occasions, I recently ventured from their fish and chips to trying their avocado tacos and fish tacos and they are 10/10! This place is a Kelowna gem Dietary restrictions: Gluten free extravaganza! Kid-friendliness: Easily able to add on to your own meal or order a smaller portion for kiddos as well as family packs!
Absolutely delicious!!! Cod is fresh and crispy. The bettered cauliflower with gochujang is the only way to eat cauliflower
The gravy on the poutine is one of the most delicious Ive tasted. The cauliflower KFC Gochujang is finger licking good. The fish is fantastic and delectable. Must try in Kelowna.
(I never write google reviews but this place deserves one) Me and my girlfriend who has celiac decided to check this place out, we showed up a tad late and the owner welcomed us in with open arms (he even kept it open later for us!). I have been to some of the top rated fish and chips places around the world and this one has beaten all of them. The service was superb, the friendliness of the staff was amazing.. it almost felt like we were visiting a friend at work, the food was absolutely delicious, the portions were large, and the margaritas were out of this world. Finding gluten free restaurants that are good are quite hard and the smile on my girlfriends face after eating here was worth every dollar. I wish all the best to this restaurant as I think it s a hidden gem and I couldn t recommend it more if you re a fish and chips fanatic like myself! Thanks again for your amazing service and amazing food! I will be back again next time I m in Kelowna!
update(one week later): My FIL and I took MIL and my spouse here. Theyve never been. And, it was pretty bad this time around. Ordered the family 8 pc Pacific Cod fish and chips, and the fish was SO tough on the edges, it was like biting into beef jerky. The thicker pieces were more palatable, but overly cooked and dried out. Batter was fried to extra crispy. It was just not good. So, I hate to say this, but this place is real hit or miss. You can either get the best fish and chips of your life, or the worst. Previous review below: My father-in-law and I have an annual tradition of going out for fish and chips. I visit every summer, and we usually go to C-lovers. Weve also been to Welton Arms, and some spots in Peachland, and usually get fish and chips at random spots like Red Robins. But, ever since they moved nearby, we walk to Broken Anchor. Hands down, their fish and chips are the best Ive ever had. They use a light tempura style batter. The fish and fries are crispy and not greasy at all. I love their take on tartar sauce. And, the presentation is great. Its not just tossed in a newspaper lined basket. They bring it out like a fancy restaurant would. The cole slaw is also a nice variation. It seems to have curry powder in it. I like it, but its definitely not your traditional style cole slaw. The only con is the prices. Its fairly pricey. For 2pcs of Halibut, its over $40. Thats pretty expensive.
Great fish and chips and gluten free
50-min wait for one plate of fried oysters on a Tuesday night at 6:30. Only a handful of people there but I guess the to-go orders tied up the kitchen. Saw them tell a Skip The Dishes driver his order wouldn t be ready for another 15 min. The oysters and fries (which we shared) were tasty but at more than $20 ?? They had run out of bottled ketchup so packets were given. Frustrating!!
Probably the best fish and chips
Broken Anchor is realllllly good. Fish isnt super heavily battered, just light and crispy AF. Doesnt leave you with that heavy I just ate a bunch of fried food and now Im full of grease + regret feeling. The owner is incredibly friendly, too. Some of the best fish n chips Ive ever had (reg or GF). 10/10 would recommend! Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free (from an owner with a gluten allergy).
Quant atmosphere. Good menu with great quality. Perfect service, and nice gluten free options. I try to make it out there once a month.
Best fish ..fresh ..crisp .nice light batter ( wish I had recipe ) slaw and seasar salad sides excellent..hubby had clam chowder very good .. Small place ..casual atmosphere deffo will return when we are back in kelowna ! Food
We had Ross and his team at the Broken Anchor cater our wedding. They served up delicious canapes, charcuterie board, fish & chips, chicken sliders, and a taco buffet. The food was amazing! Our guests all raved about the food. Ross also ensured as many items as possible would be celiac friendly for our event. Thanks so much Ross for an amazing experience and making our wedding day so special.
Always drove past this place on my way home from work, but my dad and I stopped by and had our minds blown. Seeing as its connected to the seafood market, I knew the fish would be good... but wow! Weve never had fish and chips like that! The portions were great, the batter was crispy and crystalline, the fries were perfectly salted, and the coleslaw was delicious and zesty with hints of curry. Phenomenal, through and through. Service was great, atmosphere was great, but the real star of the show was the food! Wow wow wow kudos!
We had an amazing lunch here having some fish n chips. The best fish n chips Ive had in Kelowna. The drinks are great too. Definitely recommend checking this spot out!
I had the clam chowder to start that was so so. Then had the fish and chips ..The fish was amazing but the fries were burnt and overdone, the cook/chef should have noticed this and switched them out. The coleslaw was amazing as well. Server was friendly and efficient. Overall would try it again and hope for better chips.
Ross and team catered for my wedding and the food was phenomenal! We had a taco bar and I had almost every guest after comment on how fantastic the tacos were. Prices were reasonable and coordination was easy and smooth. Would highly recommend their catering for any event :) Thanks Ross!
The best fish and chips I have had in Kelowna, the service was quick and friendly, and they allowed me to have my small dog on the outside patio!!
The waitress was not very inviting and sort of made me feel like i was a bother. The food was pretty decent, the fry portions have changed and they don t taste the same as they did before. light batter on the fish which i enjoyed
Firstly I m a visitor to Kelowna and I came here for work and did not eat breakfast or anything! I came to Broken Anchor with some serious hunger! I ordered the muscles and the 2 piece cod! It was one of the best I ve had! This is some seriously quality product I ve never had a crust so crisp and so thin! I would fly back here just for that! Great job team and keep pumpin out those hits!
Used to be the best in town, but now the pieces are the size of fish sticks! Also, every time we order from them from skip, they forget an entire item.
The food is amazing, the staff and owner are great people, very welcoming and good hosts. Do try the Baja style tacos suuuper yummy. Food
Fantastic as always. Will be returning!
Fantastic food & service. The crispiest and most juicy fish n chips, delicious slaw and clam chowder. 10/10
Incredible food and great service! Definitely a must visit for some fantastic fish and chips. We will be back!
The food was ok. Kinda oily. Slaw was pretty bad.
Food is good but closing at 7:30pm on a Friday night?? So disappointed. Will never go back. You ve lost valuable customers forever. As an addendum, your response to my review was so rude that I have updated my review to reflect that. Your hours didn t show up in Google Maps so we were very excited to eat there and were so disappointed to be told you were closed. And we actually arrived before your closing time only to be told that you were closing down before the actual closing time and that you d run out of Halibut, which was the main reason we went there. What kind of shop runs out of their main menu item? In any case, we will never eat there again and I encourage anyone who wants to frequent establishments that treat their customers with respect to avoid this place. To be frank, I cannot imagine a worse customer service strategy to call potential customers rude who are simply frustrated by your short sighted policies that seem to prioritize your private lives over your customers needs. Are you a business that wants to serve customers and make money? Doesn t look like it to me. Good luck. You ll need it.
My favorite fish and chips
Had the, West Coast Seafood Stew overpowering unpleasant sharp tomato flavour and Wild Pacific Cod bland and flavourless Expensive and awful.
Have been coming here for a couple of years now but $26 dollars for this 2 piece cod and chips is .ridiculous . A couple of dozen fries and 2 very small pieces of cod Food
This place is so cute and the food is always on point. As far as seafood goes its as good as it gets in the city! Came for the soup but they were out so we just ordered dirty fries and they were fricken delicious. Saw someone got slayed in reviews for complaining about menu items being unavailable so I didnt even go there lol. Still really good food though and Im excited for the chowder next time!
The owner super friendly. Best fish and chips Ive ever had. Same with the coleslaw. If coming to Kelowna please check this place out I cant recommend it enough
Amazing food, amazing service, Payton was so friendly and took the time to make sure we had everything we needed. Best fish and chips in town! You got to go check them out you wont be disappointed.
Just discovered the Broken Anchor! Halibut and chips were amazing!!! Thank you!!!!!
Gluten free fish and chips!!!!
Just now ordered as it was one of the highest-rated places for fish and chips but in vain. What a disaster it was, you can see the pics yourself. Dry fish, thick batter and fries were burnt and in pieces. Who serves such fries? Fish was also not tasty at all, $27 in drain. Avoid this place at all means! Such a waste!
So good! As a celiac visiting from out of town I was so excited to find gluten free fish and chips! Everything was chrispy anddelicious. We will be back next time we visit K-town.
Excellent clam chowder soup! Best in Kelowna. Very nice staff!
Excellent!! Best gluten free fish and chips I have ever had. Super safe kitchen I have never gotten sick. I am celiac ans have anaphylaxis to wheat.
This is our go-to place for fish & chips. Weve tried other shops but nothing comes close to the quality and taste of Broken Anchors halibut and chips. The fish batter is light and the fish divine! I also love the battered salmon that surprised me with how tasty it was. As an added bonus, the batter is gluten-free, which is great for people with gluten sensitivities. I also really like the freshness of the tartar sauce and flavour of the coleslaw (is there cumin in it?). The chips remind me of the fries from the food trucks in Ottawa - yum! The only downside is that they are not open on Tuesdays - fingers crossed that changes soon!
Best fish and chips Ive had in years and for celiacs, its gluten free!
Love thier gluten free fish and chips
Great food and service. Portion size is good. Gluten free is a major bonus as well.
This was the best Fish and chips that We had had for a long time. The batter on the fish was perfect (nice and crispy) The fries were very good and fresh. We ordered a 2 piece cod dinner with a extra piece of fish and it was enough for the two of us Thank you to the Broken Anchor and we definitely be order again
Gluten free fish and chips! Absolutely delicious nice crispy fries too
It s a new ownership. The fish portion is smaller than the previous one when I came here a few years ago. But the fish and chips were tasty and fresh.
Ordered fish and chips Halibut 2 pieces It was dry no taste at all very hard This was through Skip May 2/2022 The worst Fresh fish I ever had The chips and coleslaw were ok $40 for this horrible And no I don t have any pictures to show I through it out
Not bad for fish and chips. We ordered the big family pack, Fish was nice and crispy but the fries were so dry. Prawns were way too greasy.
Great fish and chips here. However the oysters I had were unfortunately not fresh, were milky looking, and tasted fishy. Hopefully this is a one off, but my experience is sadly negative for them, stick to all the other menu items, still 4 stars.
Literally the best fish and chips Ive had, ever. The fact that it was gluten-free so me as a celiac could actually eat it?? Incredible!!
Great family style spot. Slaw is amazing
We needed a fish and chips fix and this was a great option, Mussels were great too! Deep friends shrimps were pretty big as well~ Chips were a bit salty. Otherwise all good!
Perfect fish n chips!
Love the fish not too much batter and just the right amount of crispness highly recommend
Eating here always puts a smile on my face because of how deliciously fresh and yummy the food is, and how many Gluten Free options there are. If you have the pleasure of meeting the owner Ross, youre in for a treat! Would recommend this place to anyone!
Stopped here for lunch yesterday and was not disappointed. Service was top notch and the food was tasty. I saw one review that said the fish had thick batter - I did not find this to be the case at all. Batter was thing and crispy and the fish was delicious.
Best value dining of all the restaurants we experienced in Kelowna. The fish (Ling cod) and chips were so good we went back for lunch a week later. Ambience and decor very basic
Fantastic food! Service was great, food was delicious and all Gluten free, we will be back.
Got the fish and chips, not good! Stale oil!
Fantastic place to eat Fish and Chips, with some new affordable options and it all being gluten free makes for a fantastic place for those that need that option. The thin batter with an excellent amount of fish makes it worth it! Definitely recommend. $$$
Ordered 3 Pce halibut/chips $59.00 with 15% tip total $68.50..told this is the new price(old price still online). I think they will see a dramatic decrease in volume July 12th 2022 ..
Went here with my family, so amazing and we all over ate because it was soooo good. Me and my mom are gluten free, and almost the entire menu was gluten free.
Paid $25 for a halibut burger and it was all bun and lettuce. Pretty disappointed.
The fries tasted okay, but there was very minimal toppings. We got 4 lunches and everyone said the same thing, very dry and not worth the price.
Dan and the crew were down in Penticton this weekend serving up fish and chips at Cannery Brewing. Service was great and the food was amazing! We ll be back 100%
Beyond amazing food! Gluten free and actually spectacular food! Individual attention with detail to our allergies, couldn t have been better
The quality of the food is good. But I was very disappointed in the amount of food for how much the price is. $17 for the single fish and it was the size of a deck of cards. Must be premium fish.......
Came here for lunch finally as we had always drove past this place. It did not disappoint! It is a little whole in the wall attached to a seafood market and also has its own patio. Happy Hour is 1p to 4p so we were able to get some specials. We had 6 cod tacos, seafood stew, clams and mussels, Caesar Salad, fries, and half dozen oysters. Everything tasted really good. The stew was a bit spicy and very flavourful - even my son who doesnt usually like spicy had a lot. My wife said the oysters was the best shes had in Kelowna so far. Tacos were really good - tapas size and very tasty. They had forgotten our salad but managed to make it quickly when we mentioned it. Restaurant has a really laid back atmosphere so things are a bit slow. But food is delish. Glad we came.
Food taste: good. Serving portion: inadequate. Price: over-priced. Would recommend: no.
I use to love this place from the day opened, Havent been there in a little over a year and just had a dinner with my wife today. Saying that it was the most disgusting fish and ships I ever had. Fish is not the same as before and fries was soft and tasteless. It s to bad as it was one of our favourite places to eat.
Sadly did not end up eating here after looking forward to it, as we spent about 10 minutes looking for the place and driving around the centre. The struggle to find the entrance soured the experience and we decided to eat somewhere else. I fully understand youre undergoing construction, but a note on your FB page or even here on your Google link would have been helpful.
Awesome seafood, its best to sit down and eat fresh out of the kitchen then to takeout
Gluten free and delicious - the entire menu is filled with a number of choices. Its casual and a great place with options for myself and my friends who have dietary restrictions, great options for vegetarians, gluten free dining, pescatarian. The best fish and chips Ive had in Kelowna, even my gluten eating friends cant tell the difference. Highly recommend.
Best fish and chips Ive had in a long time! Glad I found this gem right as I moved to Kelowna
The best fish and chips in town by leaps and bounds. More fish, less batter! Homemade lemonade was super good too. Highly recommend giving them a try.
Was visiting Kelowna from Calgary and spontaneously tried a few items for dinner with my girlfriend and it was amazing. The owner served us himself and everything tasted amazing along with great and fast service that didnt compromise the quality of food. Will be coming back again.
Delicious - again! This place never disappoints. Generous portions (I only have HALF my fries in this pic!), perfect batter-to-fish ratio, fresh coleslaw. Super-easy takeout option. And the counter staff are so friendly. Highly recommend!
Great fish and chips, as good as the best places at the coast. Large portions (keep that in mind when assessing price). The halibut is amazing. Call in and take out is super easy. Good COVID protocols too.
Great fish and chips. Very filling for a good price
Delicious gluten free fish and chips!!!
Delicious food made from the heart. Ross is a beautiful person who endlessly gives back to the community he serves. This is how you run a business! Thank you for your tireless efforts and your ongoing support through providing delicious meals and hospitality for EVERYONE in the community!
Wow!!! This place exceeded my expectations for fish and chips in Kelowna! Ordered two piece cod and chips for takeout. Large portion sizes, not greasy at all, nice light batter on the fish! Tons of fries included as well as coleslaw which was excellent! Great efficient customer service and quick turnaround time for pickup! Will be back again and will recommend to others!
Friendly staff ( thanks Payton ) and delicious food , we will be back !
They make a mean fish and chips here. We got so full that we ended up making poutine with the leftover fries
Fish and chips are absolutely amazing here!! Light and crispy not to heavy would come back again!!
Mistakes are made, but should not be repeated. Today I ordered for pickup 2 two-piece orders of Halibut & Chips. Living within 5 minutes drive of Broken Anchors location, I was surprised that the contents of the takeout packaging was warm at best. The chips in fact must have been sitting for some time as they had a leathery outer layer, and were not warm. The halibut was overcooked, quite dense, and again not warm. I much prefer seafood to poultry or red meat, and often order fish & chips when it appears on a restaurant or take-out menu. The tartar sauce was nice and tangy, and the lemon wedge......superb! The rest of the meal........not so much.
Hidden gem, probably the best fish and chips and salmon blt I ever had. In fact this has become our routine to-go place for seafood over the past 2 years. 2021 update, the restaurant changed names, no longer serves any of their yummy sandwiches. We no longer visit. So sad
The flavor was great and the ingredients were super high quality and fresh.
This place has amazing fish and chips. It is not a traditional thick batter but instead a light one that is crunchy and not greasy. Fries were also good but the fish was amazing (Im partial to fish over potatoes). And they had what seemed to be a in house made tartar sauce which was really nice. We will be back!
Very friendly staff and great food. Highly recommend.
Pricey for what you get. Great food though
The fish and chips are amazing!
Great, friendly service Allergen aware We loved the halibut and fries
Great place for gluten free food. The food was delicious and priced very well. The staff were very helpful and courteous
This has to be the best GF fish and chips I have ever tried in my life, seriously! Super crispy and tasty! The fries and coleslaw are really good as well. Furthermore, the staff was super friendly and happy to help with any questions on the menu. I ll be back!
Best fish and chips in Kelowna. Also gluten free. Peyton and Aiden are the best staff and should be paid more.
I just wanted people to know that I have tried their food and was totally satified with their menu. Their soups and sandwiches are amazing and the quality is impressive....I strongly recommend this restaurant for great lunches and early dinners...places that really cares.for their customers are really hard to find these days , but I assure you , on a scale from 1 to 10 , Broken Anchor is the best full deli I have experienced in Kelowna . I personally thank you Ross for your great food and for the great quality you serve to your customers....you just have one new one here ...sincerely, Y.Belliveau ( chef )
This place has the BEST fish n chips in the Okanagan. The whole menu is top notch! Staff very friendly and make their point to make every customer feel valued. Highly recommend!
Awesome. I could finally have fish and chips. Allergy friendly.
In response to the owner: You need to harden up a grow a thicker skin. Not everybody is going to like what you do, and you need to think about what kind of image you want to present for you business. This is bigger than you and your delicate ego. People dont owe you anything if they dont like what they pay for, they dont have to come and tell you or the staff directly when it happens. Sometimes, people need time to think about how they want to express themselves. You might benefit from such a practice also. You could act like a mature adult, and move on, or politely ask for more information when you get a poor review. Or, you could show lack of emotional maturity by attacking the person who left the review. I came back to delete this review, but having seen how you conduct yourself, I think it does the world a service to know the kind of person you are.
Great fish and chips, we got a family meal and it was perfect.
Always love coming here, for delicious GF fish and chips, plus the delicious sauces! Shout out to Hayden and Peyton (great employees) too!
King of the Fries: I don t trust this place to handle my food; this one fry even had a crown on it, photo attached. Potato sprouts are poisonous, and this place doesn t seem to care before preparing food; seems like they just go with the flow. One thing is for sure: you re probably more likely to get food poisoning opposed to COVID here. I m not going to return because of this negligence Also, I could not put my finger on the flavour of the fish; it may have been fresh with a couple odd spots. However, it may have been just that the tarter sauce they gave me was not amazing, by any means. I would never go as far as to say this place is King of the Sea.
Clam chowder is great but the battered cod is amazing!!!! Batter is light and crunchy one of the best we have to date!
GLORIOUS clam chowder and fish and chips, safe for people with celiac disease
Awesome service and tasty food. My gold standart !
Super tasty tacos, great breading consistency and super zesty dressing. The fried avocados are a must try side for everyone
Best fish and chips I ve had anywhere. Definitely recommend. Hard to spot from the parking lot it s connected to the fish market but the entrance is separate off Gordon. The West Coast Chowder was great! Lots of seafood and fish.
Ive tested all the fish and chips in town and this is hands down the best.
Best
Showed up tonight at 30min before closing with 2 very hungry young kids. Staff made food and let us stay a bit late to finish up. Excellent service much appreciated! Also, the fish and chips were great. We will be back for more!
First off the chips and coleslaw were very good. But it was the smallest piece of fish I have ever got at any fish and chips place. I got the halibut and it tasted fine but for the price (around $18) I expected more than just a small piece the size of debit card!
So close to giving 5 stars - the fish and chips and tartar are deadly but the coleslaw is just alright and I m that weirdo that loves coleslaw and it makes the meal for me. Massive portions for the 2 piece meal and for the price point it beats the pants off the other gf option in town at the eldorado. Will be back for sure, but give that slaw some zing and I ll move in.
Good fish and chips. They use rice flour in the batter which is different than traditional fish and chips. Would recommend a try.
I am addicted to this food! It is so awesome to have such good fish and chips this far from the ocean. Try the Halibut. Seriously the best.
Daniel recommended the KFC and wow that was a life changer, it was a bit like a spicy version of a sweet and sour pork but made with cauliflower. Fish and chips were outstanding and the home made sauces made those fries taste absolutely delish. Great job Joel in the back cooking this up.
We had the halibut and chips and it was amazing! Highly recommend this spot. The fish was light, crisp and very fresh. The fries were great and the flavoured dips were good - they donate the revenue to charity. Would 100 % reccomend. Very friendly service!
Wow - what incredible hospitality (and of course, food) by Ross and his team! We got take out for my wifes birthday and Ross was so welcoming for our first visit that we have no other choice but to come back and tell all of our friends about it! PS: Love the tank! Thanks Ross.
Excellent seafood. Loved the halibut n chips
Great service from Daniel! Portions are generous and tasty. Homemade lemonade was delicious.
Daniel and Joel here at this fine establishment gave us great service and helped to pick out one of the best fish and chips I have ever had. I will definitely be coming back again.
Visiting from Vancouver, I can say that they have the lightest and crispiest batter I ve ever tasted. Portions are generous and tartar sauce was tasty. The coleslaw was our least favourite because we didn t like the cumin seasoning and prefer some carrots added to it. Staff were all friendly and accommodating. Glad we found this little gem near our hotel.
Best gluten free fish & chips ever had... From across Canada & us
We took out 1pc of halibut and 1pc of cod. They were very crispy 20minutes after cooked!!!
Delicious, fresh seafood. I usually get their fish and chips, but this time went with the prawn tacos. It only took 10 minutes to get my food and it was amazing.
Light batter large pieces of fish, my friends like tartar sauce. Friendly service. Pretty pricey but good quality. And I liked the sign.
Ordered the 6 piece cod combo comes w/ 2 large fries large coleslaw and a side Tartar sauce. Food was EXCELLENT. Definatly recommend it and will eat there again myself.
