Yamas Taverna in Kelowna

Yamas is amazing. We have been there a number of times and every time we leave impressed and full! The owners are fantastic as are all the staff. Christian is amazing and always makes great recommendations. Yamas is one of our top 3 places to eat in Kelowna!

The food was fresh, authentic and well seasoned. The value was exceptional and the service was exceptional. Wheelchair accessibility: There was a ramp into front door, ramp up to the area of our table and grab handles in the bathroom. The staff were attentive to our needs and very kind.

Best Greek food in town.

We went to the restaurant for my birthday. We were seated in a dingy dark corner behind a pole where we hardly fit in. We had to turn the flashlight on the phone to read the menu. The food was truly bad. The chicken souvlaki was very plain, no flavour, the potato was sour. Everyone ordered different things and we all truly disliked the food. Poor customer service as well. I wish I read the reviews before going there. We will not be back.

Amazing taste of lamb

We had been searching for a resturant that serves Alaskan king crab legs and boy did we find it! Amazing large Crab legs arrived hot and so delicious. Rice and lemon potatoes best we ever had. Vegetables cooked perfection and a very tasty feature desert. Service and atmosphere second to none. Thank you Yamas for making our evening an enjoyable experiance. We will be back.

Great food. Good prices. The service was OK, however, the ladies, who were serving us, were not friendly at all, just indifferent. Other than that, everything was worth visiting.

Imagine having the worst Chicken Greek Salad with Garlic toast at a Greek Restaurant! No Feta cheese to be found and dressing so bland utterly tasteless. Chicken was chewy and also no flavour. Poor service to add to the experience, so after a very disappointing dinner which I expressed to our server he presented the bill with an 18% gratuity built in to the final total it s just not right a tip should be a reflection of good food and service and a choice not an expectation.

Hats off to our waitress, she was nice.There was 16 of us in our group that went here for a nice dinner. My 12 year old grandson who loves calamari and steak, had ordered his steak medium rare. When he got it ,it had been cooked well done and was tough as leather and it was a $40 steak. so we sent it back for a new one to be cooked. While waiting the manager Tyler had come out to inquire about the steak. One of us from the table had gone to the washroom and while waiting, over heard the cooks talking about this quote f..king little kid bitching about his steak being cooked wrong and what was the problem he had already got his calamari. The only way those cooks could have known this is if it wasnt for the manager saying something to them. The cooks were using profound language about my grandson. This was quite shocking to the person that overheard these comments. Needless to say we did not allow him to eat the steak when it finally was ready,as you hear all kinds of horror stories about what is done to food that is sent back to the kitchen. This was our yearly trip and our second time to Yamas as well as our last. As well the good was not the greatest overall. Very salty potatoes and rice. And my husbands linguine was very salty and glue, dry sauce. This pretty much was a complete buzz hill to our dining experience and could hardly wait to get out of there. 5 stars to our waitress. No stars for cooks and Manager Tyler. Unprofessional and should not be in this industry. Will Never Go Back.

We come to yamas every year when we vacation in Kelowna. Always great food and excellent service. 10 out of 10.

Ok what happened to Yamas? Upon walking in, where are the tablecloths? You definitely need upgrades in this department, really sad looking and no ambience. The service was slow to start, we did finally get the water, and wine. Food comes, ok the food was good, not great. The server came back once and asked how everything was, ok all downhill from there. We finished dinner, our plates they sat and they sat we did mention celebrating my birthday but no mention of coffee and dessert was ever offered. We got our bill, only because I tagged down the waiter and asked to it, and departed. Sorry but the gratuity was a reflection of the service. Understaffed I d say, too bad because now it will be along time before our return. And again you need tablecloths and set some ambience, it felt like I was grabbing my food at the buffet and sitting at the bare table to eat. So disappointing as you were one of my favourite go to for celebrating. Definitely not as good as I remembered.

We ordered for pick up tonight, and explained that there was dietary restrictions. One of the restrictions was onion, and the lady I spoke to on the phone said they would ensure one of the Greek salads from one of the meals with had no onion. Instead we got one greek salad with tons of onion. We ordered the garlic prawns (which was $17!!!!) and we got six prawns. Despite all this, we were like okay whatever stuff happen, but the straw that broke the camels back for us was that we found what looked like an honest to god PUBE in the rice. Will not return, or recommend.

The food was excellent and hot and big portions - great value! The staff were all friendly n happy, made for a nice evening! Thank you everyone for your great team work its really a joy to see those who have fun at work and smile!!

Good authentic Greek Food. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Cozy warm environment. Free after 5 pm, small parking lot, beside building. Reasonable food prices, small variety of local and import wine. Food quality and flavor has always been very reliable over the years. Ordered the lamb chops medium tonight, based on the server suggestion if I like medium/rare steak to order medium lamb. Came out medium/ well. Showed server and brought new oder of blue/rare. Gave me free desert. New chef still learning apparently. Ill still be back. Parking: Small parking lot beside building. Free after 5 pm.

Just had dinner at YAMAS tonight. Ill just say that this place NEVER disappoints!!! The food was amazing, belly dancer was lovely and the service was top shelf. The first time was here, the waitress was very friendly, and the food was good. However, it was quite dark inside (mood lighting, I guess), and tables were very close together, so I was scared of talking too loudly and interrupting someone near us but overall a good place to have a nice dinner downtown. They also had a belly dancer!

One word.... OOPPPPPPAAAA! Haha Im kidding its actually the one word is, Natalia Natalia was the best server EVER! Hands down, you can say shes only this good because she has the best food behind her. True But that doesnt change that she is a wonderful amazing kind soul. What a wonderful and pleasant experience it was infact to have the opportunity to sit and be served by such a human being.

One of the highlights of my trip. Food was to die for. Roast lamb was delicious and my steak was cooked to perfection. I couldnt be any happier with the time and money spent here. I will be back again.

We order chicken & beef souvlaki for take out regularly. We ate at the restaurant tonight, it was so busy but they maintained their high standards and I tried their roast lamb tonight - this is arguably the best lamb I ve had in Canada!

Havent been to in years as our usual Greek restaurant is Greek house in Winfield,met by not overly friendly server and was seated,food was pretty bland and the server who sat us was fairly uninterested in doing a good job,food took a little longer then should have,over all food was OK but that is it.

It was ok. Used to have a good combo plate seems to be gone.

What an amazing experience this was! From the warm greeting at arrival, to the entire staff providing fantastic service- and the food! Oh my! Kalamari appetizer, and Jumbo prawn combo meal- all perfect!! I had the Ekmek for dessert and it was divine! Highly recommend

Message to manager of this place: instead of promised 30 min. for order of take out it took 1 hour. We showed up at the right time and nothing was ready. The person who accepted our order before even did not apologize. NON. You guys are fast to take money and TIPS of 25% when we arrange our order and you dont do your job after. DONT ORDER FOOD IN THIS PLACE, PEOPLE. YOU RISK TO EXPERIENCE BAD SERVICE.

I would recommend if feeling like Greek in Kelowna. I enjoyed the mousaka dish and the vibe and service were good. The keftedes/meatballs were slightly dry which did take away a bit from what was overall a pretty good meal.

The last time here was 6 years ago. Glad we came back as the food is still delicious. I did the chicken souvlaki. The girls shared 4 of the appetizers. Everybody was happy.

Update your google hours. Went there from Vernon at noon. Very hungry kids, only to find out that you are only open 430 onwards.

It says open on their website but it was closed when I arrived at 1:30 pm 18 July 2023 very disappointed.

Excellent customer service and experience

This is a snack after dinner, because we were still hungry, that s why we only order 1 entree to share. Service was good, it just we sat beside a big group of teenagers, do it was too loud for our taste. The moussaka was good, one of the better ones we had, lots of flavour, portion size was ok. The ekmak was not bad, I had better before Overall not bad

Always love Yamas! The food and service has always been really good there. My last visit wasnt quite up to par. The service was a little bit inattentive and the food wasnt quite as delicious as usual. But, Im going to give them another chance. Every restaurant has an off day. Vegetarian options: Nobody at my table was vegetarian but at other tables I could see there were a few and they seem to be quite satisfied with their meals. Dietary restrictions: I have family who have a peanut allergy and they have eaten here just fine. Parking: The restaurant is right downtown so the parking is a bit of a bear. But there is a full-on parking lot right next door and street parking. Wheelchair accessibility: I am not in a wheelchair but I could see that there were ramps available for wheelchairs. I didnt check the washrooms.

Damn good restaurant. Love the food, the service and the price is quite reasonable. Parking: Very limited paper space. May have to drive around to find a spot on the street.

First time coming here and it was amazing! The place was slammed busy but everyone was working so hard and the food was to die for! Even the bartender was out helping taking care of tables and walk-ins. The waitress was so kind, efficient and apologetic about the wait. We will definitely be back as it was the best meal we had in awhile! Every bit was delicious.

Theres a reason this place has been around for decades. Ive recently started going here again and the food is consistent, delicious, and plentiful. The servers are all really friendly and not overbearing. The prices are very reasonable as well, especially considering the plate you get. 10/10, will be returning. Likely in the next month!

Every time we wanted to eat something good wed say let s order from yamas, but not anymore. The last time I called and ordered takeout, they didn t have our order ready. When we got there they said we dont have your order and they had to look through their junk papers to find our order, so they said you have to wait. I was upset but we waited till it got ready. When we took our food home, we saw that the lamb was so rare that I had to cook it again to make it edible, even though we like mid-rare this was still baa ing! So for those reasons, I gave the food 2 and the service 1 star.

Best Greek Restaurant in town. I didn t expect they serve yummy and quality food. Same expectations from our favourite Resto Greek back in Lower Mainland. We recently move in Kelowna and hoping to find the same from our favourite greek resto. Big serving too! Parking: I think is best to come early before 6pm before gets busy and we got complimentary free parking till 3am. Not sure about this maybe is Sunday? Kid-friendliness: my kids loves the food

Just came for take out.... Calamari Dinner and a Lamb Souvlaki. Too much rice.... and Potatoes. Only 1 skewer of Lamb... 2 pieces were full of gristle.... chunks are too large !! Calamari was good.... Tsatziki is very sharp..... I diluted it with more Yogurt . Salad had too much Cucumber....dont like the thick skin...... should skin it !! 2 olives in a total of 2 salads !!! Hmmmm .... all in all not impressed !! Sorry.... but I have to be honest !!

Outstanding Service and food

We used to absolutely love coming to Yamas, the food was always consistent and high quality. The last time (which was a couple months ago) we ordered a lamb and a beef souvlaki for delivery. It started off with the delivery driver having a terribly negative attitude and complaining about his job, and then bringing the bags into the house and finding that the food was also not as good as it used to be. The lamb was undercooked and the beef was filled with gristle. Nothing in this experience was a must repeat for us and considering how much money we spent, it was a disappointment.

You cannot go wrong here. A must eat for me every time I m in Kelowna. Family run restaurant for decades. I know someone who worked there 30 years ago and was told it is still the same chef from back then. The ambiance is your typical Greek restaurant. I think they still have a belly dancer once a week. It was a nice addition to a wonderful evening a couple years back. And the food is outstanding. I pretty much had items from the menu and not once was disappointed. Everyone said the fried calamari are the best they ever had. The tzatziki is delicious with a good portion of garlic (be careful if you have to get on a plane the next day like I did LOL) The Ekmek is still made in-house by the same Chef and delicious. Keep some room to try it. The staff are very friendly and cater towards your needs. I found the prices to be decent for what you get. Definitely a place to have a nice dinner or family get together. My Rating: 4 Stars = Very Good, 5 Stars = Way Above Expectations

Awesome food and customer service. Belly dancing is more Turkish (Muslim) than Greek (Christian) but if you are not native to the Balkans you would not know. Highly recommend this taverna.

Every time we come here I can t help but order the Roast Lamb. Super tender and a good sized portion. We always have excellent service and the ambiance is great for a night out with family and friends.

Update: We just had another Xmas party there for our staff. And we just had another great time at Yamas! I met the new owner Taylor, and she was nothing short of amazing. The servers were great and on-the-ball. The timing between courses was perfect. I could not be more happy with everything. Thank you! There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about Yamas Taverna. We have now had 2 Xmas parties there (and I have personally been there numerous times over the years) and have no desire to go anywhere else. The service is too-notch. The atmosphere is perfect. And the food. My God, the food. So good, every time.

We went Sunday 10th December for a Christmas breakup dinner. There was around 24 of us there and everyone enjoyed their meals & experience. While we only had one server, she was friendly and stayed on top of things which can be hard with so many people. Nat did an amazing job of taking orders, memorizing who ordered what food & drinks, and had food out promptly for such a large group. Everyone remarked on what a wonderful job she did under the circumstances of so many people. Yamas is a great place to eat be it for two people or 25. We will be back again.

It was our first time at Yamas after walking by for many years - and we loved it! Delicious food, great service and a nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend if you re looking for great Greek.

We had a group of 24 that turned into a group of 40 at the last minute. They accommodated us and the service was excellent as was the food. (The dolmathes are made with fresh leaves!!!)

Recommended to come here by locals. Came in during a weekday and was greeted with a nice waitress who assisted me in deciding on their specialized Caesar cocktail and lamb chops. I was very impressed with the flavor profiles and portion sizes. Prices were very reasonable and dessert was just top notch. Ambience, decor and the overall vibe in this establishment were all wonderful. I will definitely be returning here on my visit to Kelowna.

PRICE GOUGING! Would have given five stars as food and service was excellent but the shrimp appy for $16 and 5 average sized shrimp was a complete rip off.

This place was amazing! Friendly atmosphere, and staff. Great, home made in house authentic Greek food. Large portions. I had a slovaki special with rice, Greek salad and lemon potato. My husband had chicken parmesan. We shared a trio dip appetizer and finished off with an incredible dessert ekmek . So delicious. I will definitely be returning next time I am in Kelowna!!!

Used to be my fave place for a dinner out in my 20s and now over a decade later we went and its still fantastic! Delicious food and sassy entertainment. Highly recommend. Also good value for your money.

First time at Yamas Taverna, ordered the jumbo garlic prawns for $16 and it only came with 5 tiny pieces. Not sure if this is normal for this restaurant but I was pretty disappointed to find out that I paid $16 for 5 pieces of regular sized shrimps.

Seriously overpriced. Food is decent not bad but ridiculously priced. I m from Toronto and you can get better street Greek for 1/3 of the price.

Great food, great service. We had the lamb souvlaki and it was very fresh. I love how centrally located it is, and definitely a family friendly and date friendly spot. Super yummy offerings and staff are super helpful and appreciative.

Great food however I paid cash and advised the server to keep the change and instead of saying thank you she just said errrrm okay. I found this quite rude if someone gave me a tip in my job I would at least say thank you. Got to say left a bitter taste in my mouth now and not sure if I would come back on this basis.

Its been a few years that, I usually have my Sunday night dinner at here. The roasted lamb was amazing tonight. I recommend everyone to try it. I also recommend the chef to keep the recipe unchanged, since tonights lamb was far beyond the previous ones.

Always wonderful food and service!

I moved from the east where there are alot of really good greek restaurants- this one was pretty good I had the Kalamari and it was tender and tasty. The tzatziki however could be thicker and a little bit more garlicky. Nice ambiance and very good service will definately go back.

Best Greek food I have had anywhere in the country

This restaurant has improved. I ordered a few times a couple years ago but it was never as good as another greek place in town. The last couple times Ive ordered recently the souvlaki and potatoes have been outstandingly good as was the moussaka.

My husband and I ordered delivery tonight from Yamas to our hotel. Not only was the service fast and the food nice and hot when we got it, the food was absolutely amazing! It was everything we were hoping for, and we were extremely pleased. What a lovely meal! Thank you!!
