Waitress prioritized table wiping over taking orders. She went on wiping 2 more tables before coming to me after I waved at her politely. When she finally came, she said "what" I've never given a 1 star review for service but here you go. Water also tasted funny No recommending to anyone nor am I coming back. Had the Nigiri platter A and chop scallop and yoro Nigiri on the side. It tasted like it's prepared by an apprentice. Costco/tnt/save on make better sushi. Some fish were icy cold. The sushi rice was mediocre. And they want 20-30% tip. Seriously I would not tip at all. Overall price is not cheap. However value = food that fills your stomach.
Oka is amazing! They have awesome staff who work tirelessly to make sure their guests are taken care of, I love eating here their food is spectacular (highly recommend the Volcano roll). I had them provide food for my wedding reception and it was unbelievable the food went so fast! Very reasonably priced for all food and large orders such as a wedding reception!
Is this Japanese or Chinese?? It's lazy inauthentic food. Order soba and you don't even get soba noodles, you'll get Chinese egg noodle instead.
Oka? More like Okay. Very okay food and even more okay service, not very friendly. Although the speciality rolls were pretty good, the regular rolls we ordered did not taste very fresh. Incredibly mediocre experience.
Getting a 1 star because of price and portion size. I went here for my birthday lunch and ordered salmon and tuna sashimi with an ebi roll. My wife ordered 3 regular/small rolls, Nothing special. (she's tiny). Our bill was $58 before tax and tip. The service was great so I feel bad about leaving a lousy review but I honestly won't be back. The sashimi was frozen and yet was falling apart. It was very thin and a very small portion. The ebi roll was literally the same size as a Maki roll. I ordered an additional California roll to help fill me up (I'm not a big guy) but was also very small like a Maki roll and hardly anything inside. I don't mind paying good money for good food and I know people are making cut backs but I really think they can do better.
Ordered a sashimi lunch box. The portion size was overly small compared to other sushi places. That would have been ok if the food was good, but it was not. The tuna was old and fishy and not prepared well having some silver skin still attached. The chicken was ok but rubbery. The imitation crab on the cali roll was old or off because it did not taste good. I would have send this all back if I hadn't taken out to eat. The service was short and abrupt. Much better options than here.
Pretty good sushi at a really good price! This place is nothing spectacular in terms of quality but the value is excellent- we got 3 rolls and an appetizer for $36. The interior is a bit dated and run down, but it wasn’t gross or dirty or anything like that. If you’re looking for decent quality, well priced sushi, this is definitely a good spot.
If you've been to Japan or even Vancouver, you'll be able to tell that the food is not very authentic except for maybe the portions? I just walked in to check it because it was in the same plaza as my office. I was little disappointed in my order. I got the bento box with teriyaki beef. The tempura was soggy and sauce was just salty. The sitting area is a little dark, not in a romantic way, and had more of a southeast Asian atmosphere; not Japanese. On top of the food being sub-par, the server wasn't so friendly. There are much better options for Japanese food just a short walk or drive away.
The sushi was great and the service was quick!
Been coming here for years and its always always amazing
Had Dinner here new years eve , the food was great and the service was the best Ive had all year .. our waitress was so on point ! We were very impressed. Such a nice way to end the year !
Its unfortunate that whoever is making the food doesnt know how to make sushi or something. The quality is the best Ive had from any sushi place out here since moving here from the coast. However the California rolls are literally just a piece of artificial crab and a piece of avacado. Its not minced and blended with asian mayo and there is no cucumber either. The dynamite rolls which is nornally all of that plus a prawn, is just a prawn and some cucumber. Its all very flavourless and not made right. Unfortunately as good as the gyozas are, it was drowned out by how black it is from being so burned! If you dont rip off half of it from the burned side then the whole thing just tasted like char. Also we didnt get the sauces we ordered with it and paid for.
The best sushi we have had in Kelowna! All 4 of us adults left stuffed and spent $65! Staff were so friendly. Restaurant is super cute, bright and clean! We will be back, so happy we chose to dine here tonight
Food is just merely acceptable. Don t expect anywhere close to authentic Japanese food. I think the owners are probably Vietnamese. It s okay. But please at least make some good pho.
Really good sushi!
Pretty plain sushi.... Service not super friendly. And then on the payment machine the tip options are 20, 30 or 40%! To me it seems like theyre hoping to trick people that just click without really reading the options??
The only place we get our sushi from. Reliable, fast, delicious.
Great place for sushi at a great price. My son loves coming here as do i for sushi. Friendly staff which is always nice
We ordered a lot of sushi for friends and they sent 2 pairs of chop sticks and barely any soy sauce. When I called for help they were very rude and did not care to help.
I have been frequenting this establishment since 2003, and I consider it to be one of the finest sushi restaurants in Kelowna. Its location is also ideal, as it is centrally located near the mall and other prime shopping destinations in the city. Recently, I revisited the restaurant to sample its newly revamped menu. I must say, their chicken karaage dish is one of the best in the Okanagan region. I highly recommend this restaurant. The tempura is crispy, the sushi is expertly rolled, and the green tea is always hot. Overall, I would give this establishment a rating of 6 out of 5 stars.
Best sushi in Kelowna
Just as great as I remembered! Vegetarian options: Tofu option for protein Kid-friendliness: Very inviting, never made me feel uncomfortable with my kids
Cozy little place hidden beside the save on foods! Great food and great service!
Excellent food; fantastic service. Would recommend.
We discovered this tiny hidden restraint a few months back Food is just fantastic Staff is so amazingly friendly My wife and I regularly order the combination for 2, which is about a 4 coarse meal for $50 ( All Together ) Just so happy to have found this place. I would say tell your friends but I want to keep it a secret.
Super fresh And delicious. Rainbow roll was so good . We had 2 of them. They even steamed the prawns and left out the crab so I could have it gluten-free!
Delicious food, quick and friendly service, great price!
Crystal said yup yup yup Yummmmmy
Was OK. Sushi was passable and seemed rushed. Didnt hold together well. Dont know if I would go out of my way to go there but if I was there and hungry it works.
I paid over 40 dollars, plus tips, for one chicken udon soup and one tonkotsu ramen. Chicken is not fresh, should not be offered to customers. Additionally, there were only three small pieces of pork in the tonkotsu ramen. Food quality was not good. This was my worst noodle experience in Kelowna.
Good food, quick service Parking: Lots Food : 5/5 |
Very disappointing. Chicken Katsu was inedible as the meat was dry and overcooked. The gyoza were also dry, but the sauce helped. The unagi roll was not good. An unfortunate experience. Hopefully they improve their quality, but Ill not be the one to find out.
I have eaten their take out many times over the last few months. Tonight the sushi was bar far the freshest, tastiest and presentation was top notch. Thanks Oka for making my day!
Really good food and very reasonably priced! Great service! Very very good!!
Would not recommend. Weakest rolls I ve ever had. Just being honest..
Good sushi but the service was a bit slow, waitress not very friendly and took so long to notice I wanted to pay. Also surprised to see lack of masks during Covid - one cook not wearing a mask and also the waitress had her mask pulled down under her chin most of the time.
Food wasnt very good..had better
Took a friend out for birthday dinner. The combination dinner for one with chicken was pretty good. Miso soup, vegetables and tempura were all very good. Some of the noodles in the sunomono salad either weren t fully cooked or stuck to the bottom of the pan and the teriyaki wasn t as flavourful as I ve had from there, but it was still an enjoyable meal. Service was fast and relatively friendly.
Just had the most delicious take out from Oka. Thank you Oka team! The miso was hot ! The tempura still hot and crisp. And omg the sashimi looking forward to my next visit !
Freshest Sushi in town, they always do an incredible job with our dishes. Always super friendly and it s always a great expierence! If your looking to check out a new sushi place, or Japanese restaurant I can guarantee you you will not be disappointed!
Amazing sushi and tempura
Yummy food. Great location .
The tempura that was delivered looked and taste like it was cook yesterday even the noodles is so dry had to throw them away I would not recommend
Long wait for the food.
The Chicken teriyaki was very savoury. High quality sushi! So tasty and fresh. Definitely recommend!
Been a family favorite for years!
Great chicken donburi but poor customer service skills/ rude staff. On top of all this amid a pandemic they still don t have contactless payment (tap) :((
Love sushi
Excellent food and service. I think we order here once a week! Always consistently delicious.
Been going here for years now and tried every other place in town but always come back to here . Food always tastes fresh , portions are always bigger then other places , and friendliness is awesome . Shout out to the sushi chef who s always working hard when I come by , he always says what s up and asks how we are doing . Nice to see some generally friendly people working hard .
Great sushi! Very tasty at an awesome price. Will be coming back for sure.
The owners seem to be a married couple, but they are very unfriendly and the food doesnt taste very good.
Katsu roll is delicious
Absolutely fantastic meal and service highly recommend. Bring friends bring your family everyone needs to eat here!
The food was amazing. So fresh. Tempura here has the lightest batter and never greasy. Still drooling over it.
Excellent, have dined in many times - used Skip tonight - food was piping hot and super tasty. Highly recommend!
Amazing sushi! Ive ordered takeout twice from here already
Awesome food and exceptional service
Great food
Delicious good! You must try the crispy spring rolls. They were unlike any other spring roll! So delicious!
Excellent food and service Just ordered from here after some time. Requested my veggies cooked extra because I am having issues with my teeth. The best meal I have had in a long time. You guys went above and beyond to accommodate me. Thank you so much for your service. Will definitely order again
Great place for sushi and other Japanese cuisine, food is fresh and tasty, their service is some of the best in Kelowna
Covid had really affected this place. They have forgotten how to treat dine-in patrons. We were the only ones here tonight and it made us feel that we weren t welcome. The server seemed aggravated when we asked her a question about the menu and for a straw for our drink. The food was good and was served rather quick. Would have been 5 stars if the service was better.
Quite possibly the best roll I have had. Service was relaxed... Would eat here again.
If you like sushi heres the place for you!
Amazing food and service! Love the quality and simplicity of their sushi!
Such great tasting sushi! Portions were just right and the staff was super friendly. My new spot!
Excellent!
Good food friendly staff convenient for a quick meal if going to movie at Cineplex cinema
Excellent food and service
Have been going here for over a decade and love it. Such a nice family run business!
I got some golden memories here, the foods good and all... But the memories make it better
Ive called with a few questions about the menu before ordering online. I was met with a polite employee but was transferred to a server since they knew little of the menu options. The server told me harshly there are no gluten-free options, okay, bye! and hung up the phone. While obviously a lie because some of the menu is certainly gluten-free, I was surprisingly taken aback by such poor service at a restaurant with decent reviews. I hope this doesnt reflect the rest of the restaurants quality, but definitely a no-go for me.
I missed Japanese miso soup when I was in Kelowna, and I eat miso in this restaurant. It was SOOO delicious. Honestly it was way more tasty than the one my mom cooks. I never forget this restaurant.
Fast service
Just got our order from Oka Japanese, we opened the bag and our styrofoam container had a hole in it. Super weird! We called the restaurant and the only thing they said was : we cant do anything, .. and they hung up! Were not very impressed.
My wife and I order sushi quite often and have experienced a lot of sushi throughout the lower mainland. OKA Japanese is pretty mediocre. We ordered donburi and chicken katsu, as well as a California roll for our son. Nothing had any taste. The California rolls we bland, both the katsu and donburi, even with the sauces, were tasteless. There are way better sushi places in Kelowna to try. Id hard pass on this one.
Bin going to Oka for well over a decade. Iv watched this place grow from a small little sushi joint to more of a hybrid japanese and asian fusion. Sushi is good but authentic vietnamese food including pho can found here and i personally love the beef ball soup. they do killer spicy beef shashimi with ponzu sauce aswell as a tuna version as well. Japanese sweet curry is a unique feature they have that is very popular in japan that you dont find elsewhere around here .. The service is bar non and highly respectable and family run for the most part. The price range is very good especially when it comes to the bento box and those who take advantage of the lunch box will find its a big meal at a wicked price. Also have unique desserts
Awesome quality, small place with good service!!
Good middle ground sushi. Lots of options for people who like fish as well.
The food is delectable in flavour and presentation. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is so inviting.
Perfect Japanese Food! Everything was so tasty
low quality sushi
The owner/hostess just did not give an F the minute we walked in to an empty dining room. It looked like there was only 1 person assembling the food and priority seem to be given to food delivery apps. Our food took at least 30 minutes to come out. I cant imagine coming during a busy time, if there is one. Only 1 other family came after us. Food was sub-par and portions were small. Only saving grace was her apologizing for the delay.
It wasn t fresh. They gave us pork instead of veggies. Pork is against our religion.
To start with, my husband and I just moved here from Vancouver. We enjoy simple sushi without any frills at a reasonable cost. We decided to try Oka as it seemed to have the fare in which we are fond of and they delivered. We were thoroughly disappointed. We ordered very simple items. Two teriyaki chicken bento boxes that comes with California rolls and miso soups. Credit for the vegetables being fresh, but there was way too much cabbage in the mix. There was no flavour to the chicken teriyaki. It was like plain chicken, veggies and rice. I had to add a packaged sauce we had just for it to be not so bland. The California roll was uninspiring. Very basic and not even assembled well. The miso soup is pretty much the only thing that I ate entirely. But its just a basic miso that you can get anywhere. I would expect to get something even better than this in a mall as an $8.99 special. Definitely NOT worth what they charge.
great food and service every time!
A very bad place to eat and the worse sushi place that I have ever been Waste of money and time Baby highchair super dirty
I had teriyaki and miso soup to go. It was great.
This place has GRATE FOOD. Love this place yummy!-Gaige 10yrs old.
A good quick lunch
Service is fine most food is okay not the best ozeki is definitely a cheaper better option WARNING STAY CLEAR OF ANY RAW FISH ROLLS OR ITEMS THEY DONT HANDLE IT PROPERLY GAVE MY WHOLE FAMILY FOOD POISONING TWICE NOW SHOULDNT HAVE GIVEN THEM A SECOND CHANCE
Like their lunch box. Good service.
Favourite sushi place in town. Everything is super fresh and the rice is cooked beautifully. The staff are super friendly and kind.
Ordered the most expensive rolls and they brought the wrong order. When the right order came, the rolls were tiny and very basic. When I asked the server if it was the right roll she said Can you read?! and said oh my God as she walked away. 5 minutes after eating we all feel very sick. STAY AWAY
Ordered the most expensive speciality rolls. They were basic rolls, not speciality rolls. Paid $11 + each roll. Felt very sick after afew peices. Was not fresh. Did not finish the food. Asked the waitress why the rolls were not from the speciaility menu like I ordered and she shouted at me asking if I knew how to read. Charged me 34$, and refused to change the price. NEVER GO THERE! WORST SERVICE AND FOOD EVER!
Every single time we ve eaten here ( and it s been a lot! ) the food has been outstanding! Alway fresh, the service is prompt, your never feeling rushed or ignored. 100 % my favourite Japanese restaurant in Kelowna .
I think its the best sushi spot in Kelowna.
Great food and service. Will be going back.
My first Japanese meal...very good food. Desserts a good finish to the meal.
Good quick service and responsible prices.
A phenomenal culinary experience. Lisa was our restaurant and she was delightful and kind. Hot miso soup, excellent green tea. Reasonably priced. Thanks Lisa for making it memorable. Be back again..
Sometimes things are just better than expected
Solid sushi with good service. One of my favorites
BEWARE of going to this place! I know its by the mall/cinema and really tempting for a quick sushi stop. I was tempted to grab sushi just before the movies and currently I have missed 5 days of work because of TMI!! Diarrhea and food poisoning. So if youre wondering if its worth it? I can assure you its definitely not!!! I also called back to inform them that the sushi gave me food poisoning and they told me the sushi they served me WASNT EVEN A WEEK OLD!!! Im not culinary chef but Sushis got to be fresher than that!! The girl totally dismissed my complaint and refused to let me talk to the manager. Honestly at this point, while me and my boyfriend are bonding over food poisoning, diarrhea and how sushi out of vending machines wouldnt do this to us, Ill leave you my suggestions to make sure you dont end up like me is go try a different sushi place. Theres bluetail which is always fresh, a little inconvenient by the location but I mean you wouldnt wanna spend the next 5 days near a toilet bowl, would ya?
Friendly staff. Excellent food.
Best sushi in Kelowna!
Went here as a kid & it is still around- great food!
Delicious food and quiet space.
Best sushi in Kelowna
Excellent service, delicious food, fare pricing
Very good service! Amazing food too.
Very fast service at a great price! We come here often.

Fresh food. Great service. Wonderful dining experience.
Always great food. Great service. Never had a bad meal here..
Great food great service. Stopped for a random lunch and was not disappointed.
Great service and awesome food
Pretty typical Japanese fare. They had a some great roll combinations and their Gyoza are very tasty.
Love this place
Best in town!
Delicious. Best Ive had in town so far.
Always a nice meal there. Good staff and service.
awesome food & service
One of my favourite restaurants in Kelowna. Great food, fast service, reasonable prices.
Great food.
Fresh, quick and affordable. My new lunch stop
The best ever ebi gyoza!
The spicy noodle soup (bun bo hue) is awesome! A must try!
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend the soft shell crab tempura to start.
Amazing food, great service and reasonably priced. I go almost every week.
Great place for date night. It doesnt look like much on the outside but its quite nice on the inside. The food was quite good but priced a bit above the norm.
Good food decent service.
