310 Matheson St S, Kenora, ON P9N 1T2, Canada
Kenora’s only Lakeside Grill! Enjoy steak, seafood, pasta and shareable plates. Unmatched lake views!
10 out of 10!! We're from Manitoba. First of all, excellent and friendly service. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a fantastic experience. The attention to detail was impeccable and the atmosphere was welcoming. The food was delicious and the drinks were top-notch. Definitely a must-visit for anyone in the area.
Great place to eat with a lovely ambiance and a great view of the lake. Sea food was delicious and fresh. The service was quick and friendly despite Saturday evening’s rush. Would definitely come back and recommend to a friend.
I had a wonderful evening here. My starter soup was tasty, the steak I ordered fantastic, the creme brulee I had for dessert delicious, and the two craft beers that my server recommended were excellent. Making things even better, a group of deer were walking nearby as I headed towards the restaurant. Overall, it was a truly lovely experience
Cute atmosphere, fantastic service from Rene, and great meals. The crab leg dinner was amazing. Huge portion of asparagus and super fresh crab. Caesar salad was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back!
Lillie was a great server! Very attentive. We were staying the night in Kenora heading back to Edmonton and stopped in for some food and the service was amazing! And the food was delicious! I had the surf & turf. Steak and lobster 🥩🦞!
This place is not worth it. 1. 30 minutes wait time to be seated. So we were like okay, must be a good place. 2. Took 50 minutes for all of our food to come; 6 meals + 1 shareable. 3. Two starters for two individuals came out around 30 minute mark. 4. Server did not offer a high chair. 5. Server ran after us to charge us the group gratuity. This was after we paid and already in the parking. Apparently the manager voided the group gratuity in the first place. Why? It is if the party is 8 or more. We have 1 infant who sat in his stroller. 1 toddler who did not order food nor high chair nor water. Literally just sat with us. So they considered the infant as someone that got their service. When there was zero. 6. The server said after running up to us that the grat is for groups of 8 and then he looked and realized one is an infant and proceeded to say groups of more than 7.... Dude same thing. 7. Asking for refills is a wait. Basically everything. 8. Saw our server came out couple of times, after I asked for a container, which took him at least 10 minutes to get. He even went to our table again to check in on us. That another server came up and offered for a container. 9. In our wait time, 3 different group of eaters left. One came before us. One at the same time. One came after us. We were a group of 6 adults and the group that came after us was a group of 4. They managed to arrive after us, order after us, but receive the food before us, finished eating before our last member got their food. I find difficulty in understanding why it was such a stark difference between us when the group sizes were not much different. Isn't it that the kitchen cooks the food based on the order arrival. The one that took the longest to arrive was the burger... A burger. 10. The atmosphere is just meh, just a patio, pretty dirty. Narrow hallway. Would not say this place is accessible at all. 11. Someone got sick after eating the lobster bisque. 12. Someone ordered the steak sandwich. It was a thin slice of beef on a slice of toast. Small portion too. Sandwich.... Was not. 13. Food was okay, not something to rave about. For more than $25 per order, you would assume the fries are wonderful and thick cut. Nope. Flimsy and tiny. It was like the store bought frozen fries from the grocery and called it a day. Costco fries are better. I do not usually post reviews like this, but I feel like this is needed. At the end of the day, all 6 adults had the same thought in mind; not going back to this place, not worth it. Before posting this, I made sure I am not the only one who is bringing the same problem. And I looked, and not the only one.
If I could give Boathouse a 10 star review, I would. My co-workers and I were in Kenora on business and it was recommended that we go to the newly owned Boathouse - Lakeside Grill. From the moment we walked in the door the service was exceptional. I had a made a reservation and the hostess greeted me by name when I walked in. Brought me over to the table and informed me that Logan would be our server that night. A couple minute later Logan came over and again greeted me by saying my name, these are small things but in the service industry are actually HUGE!! I ordered the Mermaid Water and it was absolutely fantastic it tasted as good as it looked. My colleagues arrived and they order their drinks and then we ordered the calamari as a starter. Calamari can be hit or miss, too heavily breaded and honestly can be quite chewy. This was seasoned perfectly, not at all chewy and they had it lightly breaded. It was an amazing start to our meal. Our main meals came with a choice of salad or Lobster bisque. Logan recommended the bisque and so I went with that. It was INCREDIBLE and it was just the right amount to not fill you up before the main meal arrived. My colleague and I ordered the Captains Catch, it was fresh Halibut, on coconut jasmine rice with a green curry. I have never had fish so fresh and cooked perfectly. The rice and curry were lightly flavored so no to take away from the delicate fish. My coworker order the sliders and they were also fantastic. Logan was attentive and so very personable during our entire meal. You can tell that the management team and owners take great pride in who they employee as to make sure that their guests have a wonderful dining experience. If you are in Kenora on business, or pleasure I very highly recommend experiencing this gem.
We were seated at a table by the window with the perfect view. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was even better. The owners Jason and Jennifer have a lovely establishment and we hope to return some day when we visit Kenora again.
Decided to have our early dinner here after driving from Thunder Bay. I ordered a Caesar with specific instructions for no pickles or beans, just plain. My wife ordered Piccilo sparkling rose. What was served was a glass of rose: no sparkle , and my drink tasted of pickles. I ask the waiter to take it away as I had requested plain, and it clearly was not. She asked if I wanted a different drink and I deferred to a Pepsi. Got the bill, no adjustment. Btw: food was nothing to rave about. Pretty average for the price. And sweet garden peas in mushroom risotto? Anyway. Been there. No need to go back.
Great food
The food here is amazing and priced accordingly
Our experience at this restaurant was excellent, the service, the food and the excellent view of the lake! We will definitely be back!
Great Service. Delicious Food Will be back
The server was nice but slow to everything.
Checked out this place for the first. Beautiful location right on the lake. Went in for lunch. The placed filled up fast, so we were expecting to have to wait for food to come out, but no. Food came out super fast. Wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was amazing. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.
Great food great service loved our server !!!
Great spot, but a bit pricey. I paid $12 for the deviled eggs which were 2 eggs cut in half
Excellent location, staff and food! Great atmosphere and decoration. The lobster was great and reasonably priced. Call for reservations on the weekend, as it is the best restaurant in Kenora!
Staff/service was friendly. Restaurant was clean. Milwaukee Brewer game was on!! :) Food was good. Lobster Bisque soup was a favorite.
I got the terrible experience with this restaurant. We were spending a hour to waiting for the food. The waitress seems racism, she barely show up and with a really bed attitude. It was very frustrating
My husband and I were returning from Manitoba and decided to order take out from the Boathouse. Not a great experience! We phoned to place our order and without even ordering, were asked to hold. Well, I think whoever put the phone down, forgot about us, but we were entertained by the bartender who was swearing about a customer who ordered a Shirley Temple..after 15 minutes of waiting, we were hung up on. Called back and no apology just I didn t answer the phone great customer service! Not! We ordered two hamburgers with fries with gravy. When we presented to pick up our order, we were shocked that the total was $75.71. We were passing through and wanted to get on the road We started back on our journey only to find that we didn t get our 2 gravy s that we paid $4 each for! Fries were cold and the burgers were dripping in grease. Definitely not recommending this restaurant!
I clean the Boat house restaurant, We clean up to 350 restaurants per year. The Boat house is one of are cleanest restaurants That we deal with. I love the Atmosphere there plus it s helps that the food tastes great
Satisfying meal and beautiful location. The price-quality meal is good
Great food and generous serving!! Host is very attentive and it was a good experience. Food
portions are way way to small if you are hungry go to the brew house they never disappoint also the meat is poor quality not worth the monay server was good but ya food quality and quantity is sad
Had a terrible meal with my son and girlfriend. When I left a negative review I received an email from Greg Corbett who apologized and offered a complimentary meal for one of us and asked I take the review down. I obliged, took the review down and when I reached out to Greg to go back and try again, he ignored my emails. Great way to conduct business. Parking: Parking was not an issue
Went to the boathouse for the first time and i had a great experience. Kirsten was a very attentive server and very polite. She knew what she was doing and provided great insight about the menu. Beautiful location on the lake, the patio views are fantastic. I had the captains choice burger and it was delicious and very filling. I will be back!
Very nice place. Right on the water. Had lunch.
Good things come to those who wait! Food is fantastic. Lobster Roll, mushroom risotto and even the kids menu. Like most places in Ktown during the summer months, there can be a bit of a wait. But have a sangria and enjoy, youre on lake time.
Service was exceptional. Food was good but very pricey.
Don t go if it s busy unless you prepared to wait about an hour for your food to arrive
Staff was great, definetly a bonus if you got a water craft there is free boat parking, patios nice with the lake view only downside is the paper menus they just fly away with the wind should get some menus that hold there weight like the big citys do.
Great service great food 5/5
Visited Boathouse today with my husband and newborn. The food was great! Large menu with plenty of options.. something for everyone! I had the Reuben and my husband had the lobster roll; both were fantastic :) Service was quick and attentive. The owner or manager stopped by to check on us and made sure we knew where the baby change table was etc. and made us feel very welcomed. Can t wait to come back!
Fabulous food and incredible service!
Me and my 4 coworkers wanted to go out to eat for dinner after working a long day at work when we showed up the place was packed and had to wait a few minutes no big deal we get seated and had to wait 20-30 mins before we had to go and grab menus for ourselves after we were told they would get us some shortly when being seated the service nightmare started when we proceeded to wait another 20 mins for our servicer to show up once he did he flew threw taking our 5 orders plus watched him walk to a couple next to us and take their order as well then about 15-20 mins he comes back saying someone spilled a drink on his order notepad and needed to take our orders again but it was very clear that he didn t write them down after all that we waited at at least 45 mins we waited wondering where our food was as everyone around us was getting their food eating and leaving and we still had nothing so we were finally told our food was coming right away another 15 mins pass I go and ask what s the hold up and get told sorry for the inconvenience we will be taking your drinks off the bills I thought that would be alright they wanted to compensate for the lost time waiting on our food finally after over 1.5 hours after walking in the food comes out they had the wrong orders 2 of us asked for medium rare steaks and were met given medium borderline well done steaks for the final disappointment if all of that wasn t enough the bills come around and our drinks were not taken off only 1 drink off each bill I expected all the drinks were gonna be taken off the bill as we were promised when I complained the food was okay at best but service was an absolute nightmare was a complete waste of time and money
I recently dined at the Boathouse Restaurant, and it was a disappointing experience. The service was nothing special. The restaurants nautical theme felt tacky and overdone, taking away from the overall ambiance. We ordered four drinks and four appetizers, which came to an astonishing $144. The drinks were mediocre, and the appetizers were okay, but certainly not worth the steep price. Given the unimpressive service and overpriced menu, I wouldnt recommend the Boathouse Restaurant. There are plenty of other places where you can enjoy a better meal for a fraction of the cost.
I am in Kenora quite often for work and there are only a few places to choose for a good meal and Boathouse is it. They have a new chef and new menu and they have elevated their game. The Captains Catch is phenomenal.
The Boathouse Lakeside Grill stands out as Kenora s premier dining spot. Under the guidance of a new chef and management team, the restaurant delivers top-notch food and service. Our group savoured the delectable lobster roll, captain s catch, and burger all while enjoying the stunning lakeside view
I always enjoy coming to the boathouse grill and return to visit friends when I m in town. The decor is great. Atmosphere is chill. Food is very good and prices are just right. Whether inside or on the patio looking at the lake it s a great experience and I haven t had a bad visit yet. Nice clean restrooms too. Parking: People park in the shoppers parking lot, or on the street. Kind of hard to navigate in a large vehicle.
Never coming back for sure. Went here since saw a lot of good reviews. Should ve checked the lower rate reviews first. SERVICE was really bad, had better service from other restaurants. Took at-least 10 minutes to get our drinks wasn t even that busy when we got there just a few tables. They had so much servers yet so uncoordinated. Our server was really grouchy and not really helpful. Felt like we weren t welcome. My brother was tryna ask about the menu she wasn t helpful and she look so uninterested tryna rush us to put in the order. FOOD was mediocre and bland. Overpriced if you re asking me, should ve just gone to Boston Pizza. Food wasn t even that hot anymore when it got to the table. ATMOSPHERE was okay really like the patio by the dock but so unsanitary where they put the glasses trays look dirty and sticky they didn t even bother wiping. In total wouldn t recommend this place.
Great place to eat. Great food. Wonderful staff.
We had calamari appetizer and we wanted a beer and wine....what!!!! No craft beer when there is a brewery right down the street! Wine was marginal. Suggestions...visit Lake of the Woods Brewery and serve their beer! Please listen to your reviews! Your menu should be all about the local catch as thats what dockside restaurants do and customers expect it!
I met the owner at a bombers game and he told me I had to come have dinner. Just did. Great spot! They even let me bring my dog and gave him some ice water
Overpriced, I d say awful service but we hardly got any service not worth it.
10 stars if I could!!! Boathouse was awesome as always! It is always very busy but the service was excellent! I had the Ruben (best ever) and lobster bisque and my husband had the lobster ravioli. Will be back again and again! Food : 5/5
Dinner for 2 was great. No wait time during the week. Clark our waiter was great. Nice quiet atmosphere. Being lakeside its priced accordingly, but worth every penny. Were gonna be back! Parking: Be prepared for a short walk when parking in neighboring business parking lots.
Place is so great. I love the food, and the best service in ktown love these people
Terrible service and way overpriced.
Super grateful to have this restaurant in Kenora and on beautiful Lake of the Woods. While boat access is great, the staff, food and patio keeps me coming back. Running a business with summer seasonality is no easy feat and full kudos to management for staffing it accordingly. Parking: Dedicated boat slips!
My partner and I arrived around 9:30PM. The patio area was full, but we were good with sitting inside. They notified us we were only able to order sharables at this time - which we were totally okay with. As we were waiting for a table, the charming hostess informed us a table for 2 just cleared out on the patio and they were setting it up for us. We had Calamari and lobster dip. The lobster dip was phenomenal! Definitely going to by my few favorite spot to come to enjoy such a great dish.
Everyone was so polite and they were just right on the ball
Prime rib sandwich and started with the fried Brussel sprouts. Both were amazing.
Excellent food, excellent staff and a really nice view
Excellent service, amazing quality food, and amazing location w/ lake view Parking: Parking behind Shoppers Drug Mart. Do NOT park in Shoppers parking lot!!! Food : 5/5 |
Recently The Boathouse had a face lift. New interior look which is nice. Personally, Im not a fan of the new menu but I wasnt expecting to walk into a large change either...especially when its your go-to place for something specific. Service was slower than the past visits and our server wasnt interested in talking to us until the bill came and for her tip. Again, in the past, all service members here were very chatty and friendly. So... yay for a new look inside. However, a few things also need attention.
Everything is good! Delicious and good landscape Food
The staff here is very off putting. Unfriendly and stuck up. Which is unfortunate, because the restaurant itself is very nice and has a great view.
The meal and scene were nice. The starter bisque was really good for me. However, be critical about time server. If the server seems relaxed and nonchalant, request a different server immediately. Our server, whose name I dont remember as he didnt introduce himself, took over 27 minutes to get the bills. Had to call for him twice and even requested a manager. My friend and I had to wait at the host stand to pull him aside to get the bill just to realized he forgot he was being waited upon. During the payment, he was giving passive-aggressive gestures about the tips. SMH. But the tequila was great tho
Been here twice in summer 24 and it was bad first time I had a reso with some ladies and we wanted to order food and drinks immediately but the server wanted to wait for food. When he came back for the food order he told us it was too late to order entrees all around bad service and the gratuity was automatically applied and we weren t informed that was a policy. Second visit it was not very busy and my bf and I waited half an hour for 2 drinks and never got it so we cancelled them. The server came over and essentially mocked the fact we did not have drinks yet. We will never go back. And I don t recommend going here. There are better places to go like brewco or bp. Don t waste ur time or money.
Great location and atmosphere. Prices on menu did not reflect same on bill . We reviewed the menu and brought it to the attention of the hostess at front . We were told the prices changed today . You must have had an old menu .Old menu how can that be when all menus had same pricing . Smells fishy No refund offered Just be honest . Review your bill!!!
3 lobster items on the menu - 0 lobsters in LOtW. Spent half the time waiting for Gordon Ramsey to pop out of somewhere.
The chef needs to cut the attitude. Your lobster rolls suck man your staff is lousy pressuring us to get drinks, as per a few other comments which are in line with mine i guess im not wrong. Secondly, going out to a few other places for drinks, I over hear some owners fiance putting down the old owner and saying we are better. Its pretty clear you and your big mouth fiance have never ran a restaurant in a small town. Welcome to kenora where everyone knows everyone and you will not get mine or my seasonal friends business, and chef you are not Ramsey so pls cut the attitude
Delicious food and drinks. Our favourite patio! Well worth the drive from Winnipeg.
Always good food and relaxing environment
The burger: just wow! The shareables were very good, too. New owners allow dogs on the patio and make sure they have clear and cold water. All in all, great experience, highly recommend!
New menu/owners; great food , drinks and always busy yet service is great!
Dined at boathouse this evening. Wow. I had the lobster roll and it was amazing. The service was outstanding and I will be back everytime I can!!!
The steak sandwich was cooked perfectly!! The atmosphere and service topped off the experience. I can t wait to go back! Food : 5/5
Today was our first visit to this amazing restaurant in Kenora! Our group of 10 enjoyed the incredible view along with top notch service right from the moment we entered the venue. The drinks, appetizers and lunches were all delicious and we will be back! Thank you Jason and team for an incredible culinary experience!
Thank you logan for the great service!
Amazing place to eat! Phenomenal food, wonderful service. The place looks amazing and makes you feel right at home. Nothing but good words, cant wait to go back again. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection! Thanks for an awesome treat guys!
Great spot, well ran, great menu. Better call ahead though, this place is the spot.
Ordered the steak, and i ve never had a saltier meal in my life. The steak must have been rolled in salt, cooked and rolled again in salt. My partners steak sandwich was covered in kraft singles, instead of really cheese? The cocktails were good. However the 18% gratuity was added to all the bills and not made known to the party. I have no issue with auto-gratuity, I understand the reason for it but it was not mentioned to the party causing many people in the party to double tip, which is awful practice. I can t believe that they received a 60$ tip on 110$ meal. Unacceptable.
Had a great meal! Strongly suggest the lobster roll and bisque. Fresh lobster and paired so perfectly with the dill aioli. The waiter suggested we dip our fries in the lobster bisque and it was so delicious! We also had the captain s choice burger which was perfectly done. Nice and tender, juicy and full of flavour. Cannot go wrong with either option! Great service, great food, great atmosphere!
This is the best place to cap off a trip to Kenora. I came in for an early dinner. When you walk in, you can feel the relaxing ambiance, soft jazz music and attentive staff. The drinks came quick, the lobster bisque was warm and definitely a stand out. I ordered top sirloin, cooked to my preference with twice baked potato and asparagus. Finishing my meal with crème brûlée and espresso martini. There are street metered parking and a dedicated lot for patrons.
Great food, great service.
Absolutely fabulous experience, and even better food.
We were given a reservation for 4 people but were told that we needed to be done in 2 hours. That was acceptable. We were seated in an area in the middle of the room where the tables were extremely close to one another. The food was satisfactory other than both very small pieces of steak were very over cooked ((not even close to medium rare) and there was a hair in one of the salads It was our decision to not complain to the waitress. After leaving the restaurant on time we noticed an area on their property that had a number of picnic tables that were completely empty. We decided to finish our conversation with our friends there since it was only 8pm. Minutes later, a man in a white t shirt , acting like a manger told us that they could get fined if we sat there and asked us to leave As we left , we noticed that the patio was half empty. A proper manager would have offered us a table there After spending $283.00 on 2 salads ( steak & chicken added) , 2 sandwiches & 5 alcoholic beverages, we will not be back Very, very disappointing
Food and service was great. Nice view from the patio.
Negative experience. Server in a hat and moustache wouldnt take NO for an answer as he tried to force more drinks upon our group. Incredibly pushy, unprofessional, and obnoxious. First time weve had alcohol upsold at a restaurant. Last time well be patronizing this one.
Nice place, food is delicious, service very accommodating and friendly
This was my lobster roll. Same with another in my party. I brought it to the chef myself and he actually defended it. Wait service is great. Food is awful.
Walked in and we were assured by the seating hostess that we would be able to order mains as the kitchen was transferring to shareables in 15 minutes. The seating hostess being proactive told our server that we would like to place an order for main courses as well as starters. The waitress takes our drink order and then proceeds to explain that the kitchen has closed EARLY and she would not be able to put in our main course order. We let immediately left after that. First time visiting Kenora, would not be back as kitchen really does not have any regard for patrons.
It was busy so the wait times were understandable, My friend and I ordered brussel sprouts and lobster dip. The sprouts were okayish but the lobster dip was nice
Tourists with no reservations on a Friday. Oops, sorry. We were still seated on the water by an open window. So lovely. Lillie was an amazing waitress. Friendly, attentive and helpful. I had a cocktail, Mermaid Water - colourful and delicious. Lobster roll and Caesar salad for meal. Delicious. Hubby enjoyed his Lobster Bisque and Ruben sandwich. Hope to return on our way home. Parking: Restaurant parking is up the street a bit or on the street at meters. Dont park anywhere in Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot.
11 of us , our server was fantastic, drinks were ordered and served quickly. Food was served quickly also!!! We had mostly appeys but WOW ! I dont think there was anything that was nt super good and flavourful . If your a woman and want the regular burger I would suggest the sliders -just smaller and not so messy . I would have to say the best burger I have ever had . The steak there is apparently amazing. The new atmosphere is nice , the nautical ropes to divide the space is great and gives you that separate room feel. Great dining experience !! Will definitely be back. Kenora needed this!!
Great Reuben, fast service.
The new management is doing an amazing job. So much better than last year.
My husband and I were extremely impressed! We love the new decor and vibe. We sat at a window table which was lovely to see onto the lake. The service was great and the food was just wow! The presentation and flavour of the food was Exceptional! Chef Richard came out and asked how our meals were -very nice touch! Jason was extremely personable. We will definitely be back - our new favourite spot!
UPDATE: They have a new management team. EVERYTHING CHANGED. Amazing!!!! Best customer service in Kenora! Food delicious. I loved it! I went to the restaurant with some friends. My friends walked in front of me and got inside the restaurant. There is a way to walk through t and they thought it was the correct way. I asked the server if there was any problem and he said it was ok but there is a door. We sat and 5 min later the server came to say that we had to wait in line (the restaurant was empty, there was a lot of tables free and he said it was ok when I got it). My problem is not waiting in line, my problem is the lack of communication and bad customer service provided. This is a touristic town and we are from abroad.
Awesome food and service.
The entire experience was amazing. Jennifer who took our reservation and seated us upon arrival was friendly and accommodating. We took a seat on the patio with a great view of the lake and Lily our sever was attentive and super friendly. The filet was cooked perfectly and the pickerel dinner was great. Definitely going back again when we are in town next.
Service was quick and friendly, meals were fantastic and portion sizes were large. Atmosphere and decor was worth the night out.
Great food, great service! Vegetarian options: Vegan options were great Food : 5/5 |
Last night my daughter and I had the pleasure of dining at the Boathouse and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The Steak Bites appetizer was cooked to perfection, with each bite bursting with flavour and tenderness and the spicy aioli was a perfect compliment. The lobster bisque was creamy, rich, and brimming with the savoury taste and the lobster ravioli were a true delight and enjoyed every last one of them. We finished our meal with the creme brulee it was absolutely divine, with a perfectly caramelized top and a velvety smooth custard underneath. Beyond the delectable dishes, the service was impeccable. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Overall, we highly recommend the Boathouse for anyone looking to indulge in delicious cuisine, enjoy top-notch service, and soak in a truly unique atmosphere. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
I had the best lobster roll outside of the maritimes I ve ever had. Plus - no celery!!! What a win. My husband had the pickerel dinner and it was great too. It s a bit loud but the new decor suits the setting. Some in our group had food served that was a little cold but the server quickly made it right.
Ever since the change in management, the boathouse has made an astounding change! The food is great. The service is great. The atmosphere is great, will be back!
Baja mussels were awesome and the staff was very informative and attentive. They left me wanting for nothing.
Amazing service experience on water. Good place to visit with family or hitch ride with friends.
TL;DR - Reconsider You come here for the atmosphere. Thats all. The service is mixed. Wait staff was OK, however kitchen staff left much to be desired. I ordered; blue rare steak, and as you can see on the photo, it came out medium. Also, the steak was bland. The shrimp was strange, it got cold fairly quickly. I dont think it spent time in the oven or a pan. The French onion soup: the onion had a weird texture to it. It had a stale feel to it. Strangely enough, as you can see in my pictures, the restaurant was not busy at all, yet the quality of food and kitchen service was... Quite terrible.
Great place , tasty steak. A perfect place for a weekend dinner with a beautiful view of the lake .
What an amazing place!! I met the owner, Chad, and had a wonderful time. There s beauty everywhere you look at Boathouse. Thank you for showing me what Kenora is all about! I could easily see myself retiring here. I d be happy to do music in the future. This time I m on a writing journey :) Peace!
Exceptional food and drinks .!! Definitely ask for a gobbler ..!! 8 stars out of 5
Great service, great food & the atmosphere & location 5 stars
Enjoy your favorite beverage on the deck!
Great place to hangout with friends, family and others. Food is very good and the atmosphere is out of this world especially on weekends
Had an amazing experience, beautiful day on a beautiful patio. Our sever lily was knowledgeable, funny, and so attentive. Food was forgettable but we will definitely ask for lily the next time we are back in kenora!
We loved it!!! Thank you for a lovely dinner and such wonderful and attentive service.
Update: just had their Caesar Salad, French Onion Soup and Thai Chicken...all excellent. Id have each again anytime. Lovely restaurant right on the water in Kenora. Friendly staff, clean, decent menu, decent prices, our food and drinks were excellent. Street parking available. Nice place to walk before or after a meal.
Thank Prince Edward the food was good because the service was dreadful. I ve never waited so long at any American Post Office. That said, the fries and gravy were so good we wanted to bathe in them. My girl s Caesar tickled her happy spots. It reminded her why she was born in this country in the first place. We waited long enough for the waitress to come with the credit card machine that we were ready for our next meal. That s when I got up and saw her waving the machine at us. Apparently, it s one of those track your waitress down if you wanna pay, type joints. I heard Justin Trudeau had the same problem when he ate here. Sad.
Great food great people just a great enjoyable evening thank you so much
Worst service and food. Since entered this restaurant, we only got an appetite. And it took an hour. Mussels have shalls.
Fun place with good food
We stopped in for some appetizers and a drink on a Saturday night, if you can get on the patio, it is well worth it. Great view and atmosphere! Highly recommend.
With Wooden floors, and wood ceiling,( like eating in a cave)and Bass Booming annoying music, and people laughing & yelling, its à terrible choice for eating! Long wait for empty tables to be cleared.Ridiculous prices, for Pre-Prepped ,& Microwaved reheated food.... I will never eat here again!
Sea food was good, outdoor patio was great with super views.
Absolutely amazing place all around! All of the food was delicious, service was perfect, and the place is clean and beautiful!
Busy, but good food. A great spot on the water to enjoy dinner with friends!
Difficult to get a table. Short staffed and extremely busy. Tables outside, but with grasshoppers this time of year, we opted out. Parking: Its not convenient. Kid-friendliness: Not enough time for the waitress to breathe. But friendly.
Great Ruben sandwich, excellent view on the patio.
Atmosphere is nice. However, waited for over an hour for food that never came. Not the greatest experience.
Service was prompt but once the order was taken, we never saw the waitress again. The soup came cold & was sent back via the server. When we got it back it was warmer but not hot. The main course arrived hot but the fries were cold. 2 new plates of fries were served - 1 cold, 1 hot. 15 minutes after completing our meal, we had to flag down a waitress to get our bill. Was not an enjoyable experience.
Racist staff, me being an Indigenous Canadian, experiences racism almost on a daily basis, but when I am treated as a third class citizen, where the majority of this city is Native Canadian, this is totally intolerable at a food services company, or restaurant.
Good service and good vibes
Awesome patio on scenic Lake of the Woods, Kenora Ontario. Delicious food and great atmosphere. Listening to live music!!
Josh was our server & did a great job.
Food was good but nothing special. Service was the worst, very very slow!
Nice patio, good soup of the day.
Wednesday night it was quite busy the service was amazing everybody was helping each other out food was amazing as well reasonably priced great taste
Great restaurant! Great meals. Can get noisy inside at times...
Pretty amazing food with a REALLY nice view of the water. Really glad we stopped here for lunch, it was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was pretty awesome. I recommend trying the fries
Decent food, good service, we go here for the location.
Food was great, service was good. The patio was nice.
My partner and I went here in 2018 and it was one of the best nights weve had together. Long time ago but we talk about it often. The owner and staff were so nice to us, kept the place open longer than it should have been open. Unfortunately I dont be get to Kenora as often as I would like but my memory of being both in Kenora and at the boathouse is fond
food was delicious and portions were large. I ordered the roasted vegetable wrap with fries, great flavour. Server was friendly, attentive and helpful. Love that the menu lists vegetarian, and gluten free options. Great location on the water too. Vegetarian options: The menu highlights vegetarian options. The roasted vegetable wrap was delicious. Dietary restrictions: Menu highlights Gluten Free options (only 2 though).
Good food and a very nice patio, looking at the lake. They had gluten free and vegetarian options, good drinks and great service.
Slow service
Accommodating place, very kind staff and the three cheese onion soup was delicious. It was the side the steak sandwich, which was open face and not too overwhelming. Delicious warming meal and wonderful outside patio space. Access was easy with walking frame, getting inside may be a touch difficult in a wheel chair. Wheelchair accessibility: May have some challenges the paving stones and front door lip, walking frame was manageable. Outdoor space was no issue
My mother and I ordered soups to start, and two mains. After waiting for 45 min our soups came and before we had a chance to start eating the soup, our mains were also brought. Soup was so salty it was inedible. The fries moms meal came with with cool and stale fries so the waitress took the plate and the kitchen staff reheated the fries in oil so she had extra dry, stale but warm fries. She ate the fish because she was hungry but it was terrible. My meal came with mashed potato and roasted carrots both of which were cool to the touch - I returned the entire meal. Obviously neither dish was freshly made. Overall a terrible experience from the wait to the service and food quality. It was a waste of time and money. The only good thing was the view.
On a magnificent sunny day in October, we went to this restaurant quite by chance while sitting on the terrace. What a discovery! A warm welcome and great care for customers, a more than adequate beer and a delicious dish (the boathouse burger)!!! I can only recommend this place for lovers of good local gastronomy with an exotic view!
There is a definite change in the quality of food. Mushroom bruschetta was excellent. We were there for a Christmas gathering and food and service were excellent. No one in the group had a negative comment. Looking forward to new menu in March. Will definitely be back.
Can you say, family? That is what this fantastic place is. Great food, drinks and atmosphere! The staff and owner Chad treated us like family! Highly recommend if you live or visit Kenora!
Nice place
Always a great experience here. The atmosphere, food and staff are amazing!
Tried calling this place, no answer, so I attended and was packed with no accommodations. The next day I attempted to call and got no answer, attended and once again no accommodations due to overflow. I called the third day and requested if I can make reservations and they mentioned they don t RSVP, first come first serve. I d assume you need to camp out to get a spot once they open?
Hands down the Best place in all of NW Ontario! Great Staff, Great Food, Great place to go with friends. On the lake, patio is beautiful.
microwave food. service mediocre at best. at least they have decent views
Asked for an energy drink and they refused to sell me one from all the cases at the bar. I was told it s only for mixed drinks. I don t drink alcohol lol so ... The waitresses seem inexperienced. I have a hunch that the problem is due to staffing shortages in Kenora. An amazing one man band was performing on the patio that made up for everything. Great location!!!!!
Their 3 cheese artichoke lobster dip was amazing. I think I will dream about it. Service was also fantastic, and the view of the lake was just stunning. Ordered: the dip, gyoza, seafood chowder (this was also really good!!!), jerk chicken wrap, mushroom pasta.
A bit pricy. But worth it. Good menu selection. Great service. Indoor and outdoor dining. Lake view.
First off, I would give this place a 4.3, whole numbers are rookie. The atmosphere is wonderful! The breeze from the lake, sound of the boats, water and occasional sea plane, come on! Service was great. Josh was awesome, I watched him get down on his stomach to pick-up a cracker wrapper that blew into the water (not mine). Give that guy a raise! The food tasted good but in my second picture there was only 2 thin pieces of pastrami on my Ruben. Its $16 on the menu and I would gladly pay $17 for more meat. The sandwich held its crisp and was overall very tasty. Solid spot!
Amazing place, great food drink and frie day sevice
On Canada Day 2022, we visited Kenora and searched for a restaurant to dine and support local business. We ended up choosing this restaurant. We came in 9 mins right after they open so we are the first customers, as soon as we walked in no greetings from the female employee in the hallway while waiting to be seated. We all feel that the female employee was not in the mood to serve because its a holiday and its seems like she just forced to work that day. While we are seated the male server did his job well in serving us. We are a family of 4 adults, 2 kids and a 13 month old baby. While we are waiting for the food my wife went to their patio area to bottle feed our baby since its nice outside and breezy. After 5-10 mins my wife and baby went inside and told me that the female server told her to move away from the table in the middle of feeding our baby. There are so many vacant tables in that restaurant that day and this female server choose my wife spot to have the second customers be seated. We just let it slide as we dont want that experienced ruin our day. We almost paid $200 for our meal, we still gave 10% tip and could have been 20% but due to this experienced we decided to give 10%. We will not go back to this place again and we already shared this experienced to our friends and people we knew who lives in Kenora not to support this restaurant.
Good
Special place to go as a couple or family. Eating on the patio is a good option. Dont forget to ask about the soup of the day.
The patio is nice. They had live music. However, I had the worst fish and chips of my life. I couldnt even finish it because it was soggy. Its obviously frozen fish and the batter is not good.
I will rate the food 1 out of 10, we were 6 peoples and ordered different things. oignon soup had a strong taste of oignon powder. tortelini soup had barely flavors to it other than water and parsley. Seafood chowder should be called fish soup, we only found 1 small piece of maybe a clam in it. Sandwiches and salad were ok! Services was excellent.
Wonderful food and staff. The waitress that we had was kind enough to bring out a lit Jeannie cake from Winnipeg, for my mothers birthday!!! Little did this waitress know, this was a reconciliation meet over lunch. We hadnt seen each other in 9 years! So, this waitress made it extra special! Thank you very very much to her. And to the Boathouse owners, hire more kind and considerate staff like her. You will go a long long way in the food business.
Great ambience and location, food was marginal.
buffalo chicken burger- 10/10
The service was very slow and the food was terrible. The food was all a combination of bland and dry. The veggies werent even edible. Had to go out for fast food after and felt like a waste of money.
Had potential. Food ok. Would have ordered more beverages and food but our waitress wasnt interested in providing decent service.
Super good food, and excellent service. Recommended stop for anyone feeling the hunger pangs.
Wouldnt be back. Fish was a tough piece of rubber
Surprising this is the only place in kenora that offers lakeside dining. Service and location were great 5 but food was 2.5. Sandwiches and soups were good but Mac n cheese had barely any sauce and was mostly just baked kraft cheese. It Tastes better from a grocery deli. Kraft-grated cheese was common as it was also used for the poutine. Oily shoestring fries...Overall food was mix of good and total misses. Good scenery to dine in but menu and care of dishes needs to be revisited especially when considering the price vs quality.
We almost left because we were very poorly received. We had to wait 10 minutes at the entrance without anyone taking care of us (the staff was nevertheless present and numerous). Once someone was willing to speak to us, we waited another 20 minutes to get our table even though there were tables available. The waitress was busy doing non-pressing things instead of seating us at a table. She was very rude, she pulled her head. No hello and didnt even say thank you when we followed her to open the terrace door because her hands were plain. She spoke to us nastily and in a very directive manner and asked that we move back to the restaurant corridor. We had come to help her... a little young waitress with butterflies and flowers tattooed on her right shoulder blade. She really needs to change jobs or take training on courtesy!!!! Luckily for us, it was Josh who took care of our table and changed the course of our evening. He is adorable, he managed to make us stay and give us a very nice evening. Everything would have been a failure if the other waitress (or rather a girl who clears the tables) had taken care of us. We still spent $280. The fries that were served with the mac & cheese were cold, as was my flat bread (taken as a starter) but the meals were very good. Josh recommended I have a Thai curry without the chicken and my meal was delicious. Magnificent view, perfect terrace. Thanks Josh!
I ve never been one to write a negative review but this was by far the worst service I ve ever received. We walked in the front door and none of the staff did as much as glance in our direction all just walked by us like we weren t there. Then we were finally sat on the patio where it was not busy, but it still took way too long for our server Cory to come to our table. When our server finally came over she didn t greet us and got straight to the point. Immediately came off unfriendly. She then asked for our drink order which we gave so then she asked us for our id which is no problem cause we are 20 and 19 and we acknowledge that is her job. However she made rude remarks about them not being ours and denied us service. She then grabbed another server for another opinion and the other server verified it was us only after demanding we show them our credit/ debit cards. Once proven wrong we received our drinks but she was very unapologetic and rude for majority of our stay. The food was great but service not so much. We ve already told our friends and people we know in kenora not to eat here.
Too bad, the restaurant has a lovely view on the lake. Our food was decent and drinks were great. If only we didn t have to listen to the manager/owner s? son and friends swear and banter very loud all night. After asking them to quiet down a bit and watch the language, and him rudely getting in an argument with us ( I m at my table not your table, I can do what I want ), and swearing etc.. were they asked to leave. Either have staff notice this (which was clearly noticeable) and do something about it, or turn your restaurant into a night club where people aren t expecting a nice dinner on the water. The fact that this was the man and table was related to Boathouse staff is unbelievable. Clearly they want good reviews and costumers.
My daughter and I decided to come here for lunch since it was a year ago last time we were there. HORRIBLE MISTAKE!!! The restaurant wasnt even full and we waited over 1/2 hour to be seated. Once seated we waited all over again just for a glass of water. People seated AFTER us were being served before us! Needless to say my nerves were getting thin! Finally our order was taken, including drinks. However, still waiting for water! We waited another 40 min for our food to arrive. We could see the food was prepared a while before as everything was cold and my siracha mayo had created a skin from sitting out, not to mention my daughters order was wrong! So after all this we just wanted to leave. The waitress could see us NOT eating and me completely annoyed, asked if everything was okay. I told her no, food is cold, waited forever and my daughters order is wrong. So she asked if we wanted new food I said no because we didnt want to wait again. I politely asked for the bill for our drinks and the waitress said it was fine, which I appreciated but gave me attitude while saying it. She then took the plates from infront of us and as she walked away she yelled see yah over her shoulder in a condescending way. Suffice it to say we wont be back. Shame as its such a pretty spot!
NOT PET Friendly. Parking is about a block away but there are not signs to even indicate where customer parking is. Entrance is not very appealing. Didnt eat here because the waitress said there was a Provincial Law preventing them from allowing even small pets (dog in our case) onto the patio; however, a few blocks away our dog was welcome to join us on the patio.
The location and view are spectacular. A casual menu. certainly worth a try. I like this place.
Excellent food and great people assisting you!
Menu does not have much of vegetarian or chicken options. After browsing it for the few minutes, nothing really stick out and we had to leave. Hostess was cold. She told us that she need to clean the table, but when I made two steps toward the table, she told me to go back to the hall and wait there. Inside area was not busy at all.
Closed for private function without notice and or updated website or voicemail
Came out from out of province during open hours with my husband for our honeymoon. Gates are locked. Called multiple times no one answered. Very disappointed since we were looking forward to going there
Service was ok, looked short staffed. Meal was ok, but in one of the Jerk chicken wraps the core to the lettuce head was not removed. Good view of the lake, music was a little loud for my liking for dinner.
Should ve taken the hint when I first noticed the place crawling with flies. Got sick pretty bad the next day after having the Thaicurry and wish it wasn t the case
Great place to eat, outside if possible even better
The food is pretty good, its a little pricey but youre paying for the view! The location is beautiful. Staff were are friendly and prompt.
Service was great but never had such bad food. Everything tasted boiled until chewy with no flavour as if it was microwaved, loved their their signature drink menu but nothing could excuse the food. Could not even swallow the shrimp. Packed up and left, had a third party taste it and when they had to spit it out too, I knew it wasn t just us. They thought the carrots were under cooked sweet potatoes because they were so soft but chewy. I ll never eat there again but it s a beautiful location just don t eat the food!
Great food and service... and view
Cory is the best! That is all
Beautiful view, but call to make sure they re open! After a 10 hour day of driving I was told that this was the place to go. I double checked the time online (via google & their website) just to go and find it completely closed. Still, the view is beautiful and I ve heard it s great when it s open
We stopped here on our drive across Canada. The service was fantastic and all the staff were so friendly. We had our two littles with us, and the staff were very quick to get their meals out first! Really lovely restaurant, love the location, and the staff are great!
Horrible service, cold food! Two in our party. Seated immediately. Waitress came and took our orders fairly quickly. Food arrived within a few minutes but unfortunately was stone cold! Couldnt get the attention of or waitress because she was too busy chatting with her friends. Seemed very pricy for the quantity of the food. Wont go back!
Real nice place the food was very good the owner is great took the time with our group of 8 motorcycle riders and was very pleasant and accommodating to our group nice veiw of the water
Best pub in Kenora.
Great staff who were responsive to our needs. Great view too
Great staff and location
