Canadian & Indigenous inspired menu!
Totally screwed up our dining experience. Wouldn't fix their mix up, because the "kitchen closed" mere moments after our food arrived. No management around to, you know, manage the place. Absolutely pathetic customer service. Way to run ruin a great location. AVOID THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO LEAVE DISAPPOINTED!!
Delicious bison burgers and nice patio where we could bring our dog on leash. Drinks were good. They were under staffed but handled it very well. Cool and collected and helpful. Great place :) Delicious salad with the burger too!
Everything was bad, well I couldn’t even say the food is cause I waited 2 hours to not get it cause I had places to be in that time. Yes I went out cause I had time to eat but not to wait 2 hours for my food. We asked for refills more than once and got nothing. I paid for my drinks and one meal for a party member who was staying and I left, to find out the rest of the table who stayed had a terrible time, one person asked for butter three times and got nothing as well. As they are getting ready to finally pay, they were asked to pay for a meal that was never served due to us leaving. Yes we left while food was being made but no they should not be made to pay for it, thankfully they didn’t but their own food wasn’t the greatest which sucked overall for everyone. Not sure if I recommend it.
Iwe chose this restaurant based on easy access and hours open. It was our last meal before returning home. I ordered eggs Benedict. They looked good on others plate. I asked the server to please make them soft poached as I preferred them runny. Our old beverages were brought out quickly, not with the meal. The actual meal was about 15 min wait. By now, my milk was warm and I had to get some ice to make it cool again. The home cut hash browns were golden brown and quite good. Where they lost me was when I got my meal, the eggs were solid, no yolk. The plate had an overwhelming vinegar smell. I thought maybe they had a bit too much vinegar in the patching water. It seems they used vinegar in the hollandaise sauce also as this was the source of the smell and taste. I summoned the nice server over and pointed out my concerns and she assured me she asked for soft poached. She said she could get it replaced but we were already anxious to got. The wait fir the first meal was long. I didn't want to wait more and said I will eat it as is but no happy. When she brought the bill, she said she covered my milk cost in exchange for my warm milk and hard eggs. Be aware of the wait when you go and clear on what you actually want and hope to get. Food prices are high enough now. My expectations are higher.
Went there on Monday after one and was seated after about 10 minutes. A waitress came by and took our order about 10 minutes after that. Then the waiting started. After about 30 minutes I was hoping we could at least get our drinks but never saw the waitress who took our order again. So after watching everyone around us get their orders we decided to leave and no one even checked to see if we owed any money. We just walked out. I will not be back!
I ordered a special - toasted Brie with blueberry and apples. It sounds like it should be an excellent combination. The cheese was cold, the apple was bland and sliced in a way that made it difficult to eat. Whatever oil was used for frying left the sandwich and fries with an off putting, sweet aftertaste. I could only force down half the sandwich and a few of the fries. Looked good, did not meet my expectations. Maybe the regular dishes are better.
The walleye tacos were very good. The staff were so accommodating with my requests of veggies instead of fries, and having the walleye tacos on Bannock! Thank you, guys!
Great food and service! Went here on May long weekend. All the other restaurants were closed early, Cottage Time was open. They handled the rush of people like champs! They quoted 30-45 min wait for the food but our food came out 15 mins tops! The chef and the 3 servers were incredible!
Im honestly shook that the rating is as low as it is. I literally had the best burger of my life here. The mushroom swiss veggie burger changed my life!
Great Canadian spot
The service was really bad they did not have enough people working. A table next to us waited over an hour for their food and 2 of our 4 meals showed up before theirs. Two people in our party ate and we waited another 15-20 minutes for the other two meals to arrive. The server told us our order was up next to get us to stay when we asked for the check so we could leave, then we saw multiple other tables receive some of their orders, but not full orders either. They didn t offer a discount or a real apology for the mix ups. We were standing up to leave when the other two meals arrived and they charged us full price. We left as quickly as we could. They seemed to be trying but it was just bad.
What can I say that hasnt already been said by so many?
Terrible service!!! If I could give 0 out of 5 I would. So slow.....waited 45 minutes just for chicken fingers. Seriously??? Its deep fried food Others waited 1/2 hour just for a menu. Waitresses are scarce. Stay far away!!!!!!
Where to start the food was amazing and really good but the service was not the best took awhile to be seated, understaffed, we had to ask a couple times for our sodas, they didn t give any napkins or cutlery for our appetizers, food took awhile and my food came out before my partners and it took 5-10 mins for hers to come out, and had to go in to grab my take out box after I asked for someone to bring one and after they said they would and received no apology for any of it.
Great dining experience Delicious Walleye Dinner with pleasing presentation. Inside or outside waterfront patio dining. Quick service. Friendly and helpful staff. Food : 5/5 |
Had breakfast here, a breakfast poutine and an extra pancake on the side. It was hands down the best breakfast I have had in years. I travel for work and review a lot of restaurants but this stands out in my mind because of the food and the service. It was so good, I am still thinking about it.
Unfortunately we went in on a Sunday and they were severely understaffed. Just 1 server and the manager. They both hustled and were great but it wasn t possible for them to check in on us at all. Took almost 2 hours. But food was decent.
Their Bannock and Jam was perfect and the price
Food was perfect. A leisurely pace.
Amazing place with an amazing menu
This place has amazed me , the food is great an the service even better ,haad the pickle chips ,I tell ya try the pickle chips sooooo good and the French fries were some of the best iv had in a while , we most definitely will be eating here again ! This place is a hit for sure
Ive been here twice now. Absolutely recommend it. My first time here I had walleye tacos and today I had the wild mushroom burger. No complaints what so ever. Service was fast, food was hot and a very generous serving. Definitely will be back to try the buffalo burger.
Worst service I have ever received. Made me want to leave, I felt so uncomfortable. Mistakes happen but the waitress messed up our entire order even the drinks. Food tasted reheated. Will not return.
Everyone was super happy with their orders at this handsome looking table. Bison burger, Montreal meat, house salad and bruschetta were all ordered more than once and totally hit the spot. Food : 5/5
Visiting from France. Great walleye and wild rice today. One of the nicest meals Ive had in Canada. Warm welcome, reasonable price for extras like Bannock. I cant wait to try the bison burger and the soup. Merci ! Keep it up. Ill be back.
Experienced & Courteous Knowledgeable Chef! Kind,Courteous,Friendly,Cheerful waitresses and a Extraordinary Menu! Awesome location,on Harbourfront of the Lake of the Woods Kenora,Ontario.I ate there lots in summer! Negative comments. Today, I took a friend to Cottage Time . Upon entering the restaurant, a loud and disrespectful and disturbing large group of people were in the restaurant to have a party .This totally bothered the other quiet paying customers. I learned a lesson I should have got up and left immediately. Parking: Steps away from a huge, metered, public parking lot.
The bannock that comes with certain meals is delicious. Its nice and chewy and not dry like some other places in town. Different style but pleasant nonetheless. Food came out pretty quick and hot for everyone in our party. Drinks were ok - coffee was filled regularly but Caesars lacked any good flavor or kick. Parking is abundant.
Loved everything about it
Waitress was more interested in serving her coworker tequila shots than helping us
Went to this place twice now but after the second I wont bother going back. Myself I ordered chicken fingers and pickle chips, the chicken fingers were over cooked as the ends were hard and dry. The pickle chips were hard and dried out as well. Did not taste good either. As well we all ordered iced teas. We waited and waited for a refill, it wasnt busy but the waitress was too busy yapping to what seemed to be a friend of hers. I was angry by that time and had to get up in order to ask her if we could get a refill and wash down the over cooked food . No one at our table was happy. I definitely wont be going back. When Im paying for a meal I expect it to be good and come with good service.
Went for lunch with a friend and wasnt disappointed. Had the chicken sandwich special with a little soup and fries. Soup was Tomato Parmesan and it was very good. Bison burger was my friends order and she said she couldnt decide what she liked better, the burger or the bannock bun! Everything was done well. Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. Lovely Saturday lunch place. Will be back.
Newer to Kenora restaurant with some unique cuisine like bison burgers and bannock dogs. The fish poutine was only fries with a few cheese curds and fish. Everything else was very good. Good service. Wheelchair accessibility: Level entry
I was here early June the place was quite busy. Unfortunately, there was only 2 to 3 servers, and they were mainly looking after the big groups as I had only come alone. The place has a great vibe I just was not able to get service quickly.
Food was delicious. Overall a good experience because we were the only ones out on the patio. I would love to see a larger menu, but what we had eaten was very good and our server was wonderful.
Met friends here. Very good food and excellent service
We came with my family around 11am we got seated at 12pm. They told us that they are busy with the breakfast orders. They initially took our orders. At 1pm I came to the counter to follow up. They took our orders again. We got our orders around 1:30pm. The chicken wings was too salty, the bison burger buns are too hard, my son waited for the dipping sauce for his chicken fingers which did not came, the nacho was fairly good. Spent $115 we left unsatisfied. It was supposed to be a funday for us to celebrate fathers day but we wasted a lot of time for the lunch. Sadly. Having second thought coming back to this place.
Fantastic fish &Chips!!! Walleye!!! So rich and delicious
Very slow, apathetic service and neglected to input our order. I will not be returning.
You have to try the Walleye tacos!!
Love this Place and the Service by my Girl is the Best
Awesome little spot service was fantastic food was beyond delicious and the atmosphere was perfect thank you so much
We didn t dine, date night on Canada Day, live entertainment, listened to one and half songs, no service, was told twice that we would be waited on then we left. The inside and patio where not full, so the service should have been better, will not go back there! The best part was parking, lots of space at the Harbour Front, nothing going on at the tent.
soup of the day was great (wild rice & bacon) nice pc of bannock. Servers was pleasant and quick. Fish tacos also good
Went for a afternoon lunch, waited inside for at least 10 minutes with absolutely no acknowledgement we were even there. Restaurant was busy but not full. Waitress were chatting with customers not taking orders. Finally were asked for how many and we asked if we could sit outside. A table that holds 6 was pointed out to us -we were 3. We sat. outside waitress came and SIA they don t allow 3 people to sit at a table for 6. Tables of 3 were all blocked off. Asked if they expected to get busy soon. She had no idea but we couldn t sit there. This was at about 3 pm. Town was not busy at all. We pointed out we were not acknowledged indoors then left. Have no idea what the food is like but the service was terrible
Patio used to be pet friendly. Now it is service dog only. While it might actually be about health requirements (which dont seem to impact other outside dining establishments), may I suggest SIGNAGE! That way your poor staff wont have to actively disinvite people trying to give you money. Major turnoff for folks who cant leave their pets in a car or back at the hotel. You intentionally or accidentally eliminated precisely the people you should be attracting -- tourists bringing money into your community. BTW... If you are truly concerned about health, might I suggest lobbying to get rid of the societal changes which have resulted in drug deals, abandoned needles, and overdoses next to your dining patio instead of kicking out respectable patrons who choose to bring their pets.
Great staff, plus great mix of diverse and culturally exciting food
Very good and nice! The chef is best
The fish tacos were delicious! Homemade fries yummy! Service fast and friendly! We will definitely return! Parking: Free parking on Sundays Wheelchair accessibility: Patio very accessible
The food, the atmosphere, the great service and a huge hats off to the chefs! It s a cozy little place and we will definitely be going back and will also share with others, if there in need of great food and great service then this is the little place that we will highly recommend!! Keep up the great work Cottage Time!! Food
My girlfriend and I visited this place on Monday, July 3rd afternoon. We stood at the entrance and while it was quite busy, we were excited to check it out as we are from out of town. After about 1 minute, a waitress greeted us but before we could even say hi back, she immediately said There s going to be about a 20 minute wait, we re very busy and you re going to have to be patient . I get that it was the Monday after a long weekend and the restaurant was busy. But she did not even give us the chance to say hi or to say how many were in our party, no chance to ask if we were interested to sit inside or outside, or anything. We also just arrived 1 minute prior and were patiently at the door - we did not display any sort of impatience whatsoever. So after the waitress finished her sentence, I just looked at her and said ok then we turned around and left for another restaurant.
Good food, I was pleased with what the kitchen staff brought to the experience... But let me tell you, this has to be the worst service Ive had in my life. This place needs Jon Taffer...
Best Bannock for a non-indigenous restaurant. But apparently employs an Ojibwe cook? Excellent hamburger & mac soup. And excellent gravy & fries. Food
Food was okay, very small menu. The service was a bit slow and we got a few wrong items. The manager yelled at the whole restaurant about us because we had our 3lb dog on the patio even though there was no sign saying no dogs on the patio. She could have been a lot more reasonable about how she approached it, ended up being very embarrassing. Everything is overpriced. We only went because they were the only place open for the long weekend. Also not kid friendly at all.
We came over Harbourfest weekend, it was busy but we were very satisfied. Food was phenomenal, we had bacon cheese burgers with fries and chicken fingers with kettle chips. I would definitely recommend for those wanting some good food. Kid-friendliness: They gave crayons and paper for the kiddos.
Worst service ever. Went to bobs burgers down the street from these guys. Food was good and service unbeatable.
Loved the people good service. Good food sitting on the patio. Great atmosphere overall, love to the experience.
Amazing food! Service was slack, & had a judgy atmosphere. This photo shows only half an order or walleye tacos, & a full fry order. Parking: Huge paid parking lot right off the patio, & its a walking distance from free parking downtown Wheelchair accessibility: Lots of space inside, & direct access on the patio
Cottage Time offers a nice selection of bar foods with a very comfortable outdoor patio facing the water. There is not too much open on Sunday in Kanora so the CT was a welcoming opportunity. We sat on the patio. Where the hard-working staff hustled to cover a full slate of tables. The service was very good. Friendly, if not a bit hurried, but that was understandable. The food also was good. We enjoyed our burger and fish tacos, and there was plenty of beer available. This place was popular on a busy Sunday evening due to so many restaurants being closed in Kanora. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Cottage Time and we would return.
portions were excellent
Food was very good. Must try the Bannock with Jam - delicious. Great patio across from the water. Great spot!
The service was absolutely terrible, we waited 20 mins before we received menus and another 15 before she came back and took our orders. The atmosphere was rude and the server said what do you want when we asked to order. Other customers waited just as long to be seated and attended to. Locals mentioned that the service is generally bad. I would not recommend. Their hours are completely different than what is posted outside and on their website. They ran out of more than half of their items on the menu as well
We had come in to get takeout and ordered a bacon cheese burger, poutine and pickle chips. We ended up waiting an additional 20+ minutes after waiting the initial 25 min and were told our order was given to the wrong person. When we did get our order and arrived at home (20minutes away) we found out that there was no gravy on the poutine. When I called, she said she would refund the poutine and give an extra 25% off next time. I just needed to text her my info. After saying all the details again, all I got back was Thank you No other contact has been made and no refund came. We come to Kenora quite regularly and will not be coming back for even the discount.
The bison tacos were tasty and service was adequate. The craft beer selection left some to be desired. Overall a good experience.
If you got the time to wait then this place is for you. If you like chicken strips that taste like fish because they use the same oil....this place is for you. If youre kids like sliders that are rock hard then they will love this place. If you like to hear the waitress talk a out a 3 star rating because someone had to wait and they never got served to which me and my family just had happen to us..then this place is for you. 74$ worth of cold fries and hard food. Was worth it and would recommend this place to eat....in another universe of course.
Food was great.
Although the waitress, came fairly quickly with menus Thats where it ended. Appetizer came with food. Not as an appetizer. We had to ask for cutlery. Food arrived warm, had to ask for ketchup, Waitress never returned to our table ask how things were. Very very disappointed. We also noticed that several good reviews here were written by their cook.
Had my eyes set on eating here for awhile and Im very glad i decided to try them out! Amazing friendly staff! My food was ready in 10 minutes, the fries were deliciously crispy, the burger was delicious, and this place converted me into a desert lover. Seriously, i never order deserts. The cheese cake and maple pies are especially delicous.
We had an early supper at the restaurant, we had to wait an hour for our order to come where as people who came after us got thier food before us. We ordered two bison burgers, 2 iced teas and a hummus plate. The server told us what our side options are for the burgers, so we went with fries and a ceaser salad. He failed to mention the ceaser salad is an additional $3 whereas the house salad is free. When the bill came the server told he can speak to the manager and remove the charge but we couldnt waste any more time there so i said its okay. And our hummus plate was given to the other table where two of our friends sat. The food didnt taste good, the patty was hard and the fries was soggy. The server was a nice person, very pleasant and polite but the restaurant experience was very bad. Hence why the 1 star.
Awesome location for a lakefront patio restaurant. Cottage Time has best layered nachos I ve had! For a new restaurant the service was good and food was phenomenal. I was happy to have conversations with the employees about what successes and challenges they have faced so far after a month of being open. They are more than open to taking suggestions and the management makes the time to speak with visitors. I look forward to seeing the restaurant get even better with time.
Tried to go for dinner, at 5:45pm. Followed signage to go inside to be seated. Rude staff barked from behind bar how many? We responded with 4. Barked sit where ya want patio is closed! Only one table was occupied on the patio. We chose not to patronize this establishment! First impressions are lasting! Will not return.
Great food great space and wonderful waitress!we ordered the bison burger, walleye tacos and Montreal smoked meat sandwich! Logan you were awesome
Rudest waitress!!!
Delicious food! This is the first time I ve had a bannock burger at a restaurant since East End! The pickle chips are my favourite
Cute, clean and nicely renovated restaurant-bar, where everyone is welcome and the food and drinks are delicious!!! They have started live music nights and the staff treated us like family! Its clear that this place is a labour of love. Thanks again Cottage Time!
Excellent house salad. Great food, great portions and excellent wait staff.
Every time I have come here it has been wonderful! The staff is great and welcoming, and the kids love it too! They have kids menus that they can colour and keep busy while the food cooks. Definitely recommend!
Its hard to find any place to eat in Kenora, never mind somewhere decent and with a patio, so we were so happy to stumble upon Cottage Time, and have returned twice more since. Each time the staff was super friendly and our orders came out quickly. Great atmosphere, fun 80s/90s music. The fries are awesome, and very good burgers. Well definitely be back!
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Waited in line for 30 mins and wasn t even acknowledged. Several customers waiting for over an hour and haven t received their food yet. PICK UP your game or close shop and let another business in!!
Super unfortunate visit this evening. I came in with some friends and ordered myself something pretty simple. Just chicken tenders and a poutine. The food came back quite cold, and the tenders were just incredibly overcooked. Just totally like rubber. The fries were also over cooked or stale. The waitress never came and followed up on how the food was until the very end of the meal, so I never had a chance to express the issue. When I did inform her, I was also shocked that there was absolutely no form of compensation whatsoever. She had expressed that a lot of people like these types of food crispy , and my reply that this was not crispy, it was just very overcooked. The waitress was friendly, and I do not hold it against her. Super sweet girl. I had also picked at my friends bruschetta, and the nachos. I wish I could give better reviews as I love to support local and try out newer restaurants. I wish there was something to rave about here, but unfortunately not the case for me.
Great food and service
always a good vibe at cottage time. the waitresses are always super nice and accommodating because i usually dine in with my small children. food is delicious, the music is good, great location. i ve also done take out a handful of times and never been disappointed.
The walleye tacos and sweet potato fries were delicious. The service was great. I was chilly and the server (owner?) even gave me her sweater to wear! Top notch, and VERY appreciated!
Great new restaurant that Kenora has been waiting for. The service is great and the food is the best. Love that is it open for breakfast on the weekends. Only wish I could give 10 stars.
very kind and friendly service, food is excellent. always go there for lunch when in Kenora.
Had the Bison Burger. It was very good. Ill definitely be going back.
First time going and enjoyed it very much
The place was nice, the food terrific. It was -20c out and inside it was cold. More heaters would be nice.
