As a Mexican American who grew up in eating Mexican food, I would say the food was great. We had the patatas bravas, potato wedges, chicken tacos and carnitas tacos. The chicken tacos were fine. Nothing special and nothing really wrong with them. 5.9/10. The star was the carnitas tacos. They had shredded pork, onions, pico de Gallo, guacamole, and two types of sauce. The pork was tasty and the carnitas had a nice crunch to it which helped with the texture and taste. Very good and I would recommend these to anyone. 8.2/10. It was a great night and I would go back in the future. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly yes.

As someone who has been to Keswick countless times, I can say without a doubt it is the best food in the whole of Keswick. All the food we ordered was amazing (especially beef chilli enchiladas and patatas bravas). We were served by Mariano who was attentive and friendly and there was another lady with a strong Australian accent (didnt catch her name, sorry!) who was so pleasant and smiley. Staff like this just make the entire dining experience x100 times better!

Lovely little gem, we stayed on the weekend and came across this place. The food was so good and the service was great. I would come back here just for this place, margaritas are stunning too. If you are in the area definitely give this place a go!!

Very small bar and tapas restaurant. Been here without booking and 10pm was the first time Ive been able to get in just for drinks, so booking is essential if you want food. Lovely staff and a nice selection of drinks. Parking: Large but popular car park 100m away. Wheelchair accessibility: It isnt accessible due to a large step, unless you are happy outside.

Group of us very well looked after and excellent tapas food and friendly service. Small venue so book. Dogs allowed.

Came for valentines as we have passed many times and have always said we should go there next time. Damn we wish we had sooner. Although it looks tiny and on a small street its surprisingly big inside and it felt very cosy and inviting. The food was coma worthy very good tapas and the menu and choices are a good mixture of everything. Definitely stuffed after about 5-6 dishes between two, a good amount of food and very filling. Would definitely recommend the patatas Bravas, chorizo and meatballs. Service was good it was very busy and the staff were busy bringing food out but there was always someone available. Overall. We are gutted its took us this long to actually eat here as we have clearly been missing out. Definitely hands down one of the best places to eat in Keswick and we will be coming back. Great food and fantastic service , highly recommend

We popped here last week for one evening on our Honeymoon. The service and food was absolutely first class. We arrived early on without prior booking and were offered a seat downstairs but we were in no rush so told the girls we would have a drink at the bar whilst we waited. We were offered another table during our wait but we asked for the best on they had. We had 2/3 rounds of drinks downstairs whilst chatting to the girls doing the drinks which was lovely. We then went upstairs and enjoyed 7 of the best tapas dishes. The whole experience was wonderful so thanks for making it so special

Small portion bar food served in tapas dishes. Confused about whether this is Mexican or Spanish style, ended up being neither. Underwhelming food, service was decent, slightly odd atmosphere.

The food had potential but was lacking in seasoning, dishes were nothing overly special but placed into tapas style containers. Service was good overall, but left feeling disappointed by food that wasn t really Mexican or Spanish.

We visited 2 years ago and loved it. Whilst we were in Keswick again recently, we had to visit again. The staff are great, very friendly and attentive. The food was even better than the first time we came, which I didnt think was possible! 4-5 plates for plenty for 2 people. Its easy to over order as there are so many great things to choose from. If youre in Keswick, this place is a must!

Really nice tapas, enjoyed them all. Bit disappointed that after 90 mins hen choosing a desert or cocktail we got told they needed our table back but we could go in the var downstairs for it. Which was basically shoved on the end of someone elses tables so we moved on. Costed then £30 for kicking us out early

Went twice during our holiday. All the food was delicious (breaded jalapenos, bean enchilada, meatballs enchilada, chicken with chimichurri, patatas bravas, and chicken tacos), but only the meatballs had any real chilli kick. Friendly staff, very helpful but not oppressive, and a fantastic drinks menu. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would absolutely recommend it.

The service is the star here for me. The staff were super welcoming and attentive. The food was very nice with a diverse menu to choose from. The beer menu is also very good, especially for us craft ale fans. Overall, the food pricing is just creeping into expensive territory, but this place is highly recommended for the quality of the food, drinks and service.

What a gem of a place! The food was absolutely fantastic, friendly staff and dog friendly! I was driving and our waitress suggested a low alcohol beer that was really nice. My wife had 2 cocktails that she said were delicious. We found it by accident and had an awesome time here, well definitely be back next time were in the lakes! Loved it! Vegetarian options: Im not a vegetarian but my wife is and the vegetarian & vegan menu is really good with plenty of choice, so we were both catered for really well.

We absolutely loved this place. We came for food around 8.30 and it was rammed but the staff quickly got us a drink and found us a table right by the bar. Great atmosphere, good music, great beer and amazing food.

A great little restaurant with a chilled vibe. We were in at a bit of weird time so it wasnt busy and the waiting staff were downstairs most the time so we struggled with ordering more drinks or food. Still cant wait to return! For more tequila and yummy food Kid-friendliness: We had a 3 year old with us and felt welcomed.

We didnt book ahead which was a risk being such a popular restaurant however we were very lucky to arrive just as an street table came free. The waiting staff were without exception friendly, efficient and diner focused. As a result we had a lovely time. Food was tasty, plentiful and fast arriving. Each tapas was a dish in itself. I cant think of a negative. Rated low on atmosphere because we were outside. I cant say what the vibe inside the restaurant was like. Music that drifted out sounded great. Nice decor from what I saw. We had a wonderful time at Bar eS. We fully expected to be rushed around because of the amount of young staff, but we couldnt have been more wrong! The staff were so lovely and helpful with our order and making suggestions on how many dished to have, and were very attentive to us the whole time. Delicious would be an understatement, the food was fantastic and the tequila is high quality. A perfect tapas experience throughout. The padron peppers, nachos and patatas bravas are essential and tasty! Avoid disappointment by booking a table as it is very popular! Wow, all I can say is wow, best tapas restaurant we have ever been to, and we have been to allot, the quality was excellent, my taste sensation was almost emotional, we definitely need to come back and tray the rest, Should be 7 start but I am limited to 5 Staff and atmosphere also awesome.

This place has definitely improved from a couple of years ago. The staff were very good and attentive. The food was tasty and it says on the menu what the gluten free options are. The nachos, meatballs and patatas bravas were good. However, the plates you are given to eat from are tiny! Like a saucer! So you cant really mix up the food, have to just eat one little thing at a time. It was very noisy upstairs though and it wasnt full. Had to shout to have a conversation with the person next to me. It does end up being quite expensive as it is recommended you have 2-3 dishes per person. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options on the menu

I don t usually leave a review, however we were so impressed with this restaurant. We came on a busy Saturday evening, so the atmosphere was great. The mezcal margarita was incredible - I had 3. There was plenty of choice on the menu without being too overwhelming and fairly priced. The staff were hands down some of the most attentive and friendly we have encountered in a long time. Overall we had a fantastic evening and would highly recommended to couples and families and solo travelers alike.

We have been a few times when on holiday in Keswick. We went yesterday (Sunday 9th Dec 2018) and had a really great meal, a fantastic selection of vegan tapas dishes. We went back today (Monday 10th December) and again we enjoyed a really good meal. The waitress was very helpful and made sure that we enjoyed our visit. We will be back everytime we visit Keswick. We chose vegan tapas, but others in the bar had meat dishes and it is clear this bar has food for everyone. We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere with good background music. We were back on 22nd December 2023 and it was still a great place. Great service and food.

Such a lovely, little tapas restaurant in the heart of Keswick. Whether youre wanting a full dinner, snacks or picky plates, Bar eS Keswick can cater for it all! We arent vegan/vegetarian ourselves but we were given the option of these particular menus as the gent came over to show us the main one. Super friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere, not too loud or busy, just nice for a friendly drink and tapas. Our dog, Annie, was welcomed here too so if youre worried about leaving your four legged family members at home, dont be! :) 100% recommend this great restaurant.

Just had a fantastic meal. Got dishes from their vegan menu - nachos, enchiladas, garlic bread - and all were tasty & brilliant. Great to drink local craft beer on tap too. Dog friendly and all the staff fussed over our dog and he was treated to a couple of dog biscuits too. Will be back when we re next in Keswick!

Poor service and inattentive staff just going through the motions. Waited to be greeted for over 5 minutes (with a reservation) whilst staff walked past numerous times and said nothing. £7.50 for a small cup of coffee, amaretto with a tiny scoop of ice cream submerged in it and a teaspoon not an affogato! Food was generally good but some dishes overpriced. Disappointing experience and such a shame! Would not recommend if you like to be looked after and want value for money!

Sorry for the very unhelpful photo... but we just enjoyed the food a bit too much to get some good snaps. This is a really lovely restaurant and bar. The main compliment Id give is that the foot is very fresh. Its not the occasional tapas experience of pre-prepared/frozen and reheated food. Everything was excellent. If the pork ribs are on the menu, Id strongly recommend them. The staff team are really friendly and welcoming, the drinks choice is great, the atmosphere is lovely, and its good value. One of the best meals out weve enjoyed in a while. Theyve another restaurant in Ambleside if youre nearby there.

Absolutely amazing food. The staff are so attentive and care about your opinion. We love the Square Orange down the road too but this is just as good and if not better. The squid was perfect, the meatballs were perfect, in fact the whole dining experience was perfect.

Every time we come to the Lakes, we come to Bar eS. I think this was year 6, Ive lost count. We even came back to the Lakes for a second holiday in 2021 as we couldnt get a table on our first visit. Thats how much we love this tapas! As always, it was amazing. The staff are lovely and always attentive. They even gave our honking foster dog some attention. Bar eS is one of the best food restaurants in the whole of the Lakes! Incredible food with amazing quality ingredients used throughout. We ordered a bit too much but ate it all as it was just so nice we couldnt waste any. So reasonably priced for the quality youre getting. Staff are so polite and will answer any questions. They also stock some really nice local beers too. Theres something for everyone! Will be back next time Im in Keswick. Edit: Came back again and everything was as good as the last time! Beautiful flavours, great attentive staff. Cant be faulted.

Went tonight and was shocked by the outstanding food, unreal cocktails and beautifully friendly staff. We were served by Izzie (as our receipt says) & she was so sweet and friendly and it made our evening. We re only here in Keswick for 2 nights and I m so glad we spend one of our nights here. I couldn t recommend it more and it ended up being so reasonably priced for the incredible quality! Should put your prices up if anything! 10/10

Friendly staff, quick service and good tasty Mexican tapas. Just what you need after a tough walk.

Outstanding Mexican Tapas. Basically for a couple you would order about 5 or 6 dishes. They are brought out as they are ready as opposed to all at once, which really works. All are exceptional. We had patas bravas, padron peppers, nachos with goats cheese olives roast peppers, spicy meatballs and chilli quesadillas. Very tasty. Just the right amount too. Between us and the tables next to us we had most of the menu and all agreed it was fantastic food. Excellent selection and good beers, wines and cocktails. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Definitely book ahead. Dog friendly too.

Really good meal. Nice to have something a bit different in Keswick. The staff were fab, really friendly and couldn t do enough for you. They were great with our daughter who hadn t tried Mexican food before. Food was great - lots of vegetarian options. The mushroom tacos were delicious. Very good cocktails! We will be back next time we are in town.

Wow!!! The food is perfection, the music upbeat, and it looks COOL. This could be one of those amazing hangouts I would stumble across backpacking around Mexico/ Central America. Amazing! Cannot recommend enough .

Excellent tapas, IPAs and service

Great little tapas bar in the heart of Keswick. We followed the waitresses recommendation and ordered 10 plates between the four of us, we did finish it but if youre getting a big dish such as tacos or Nachos maybe get less. The food was excellent, the chorizo, squid and nachos were amazing. Only thing we werent massively fond of was the padron peppers but that is because we personally cook them with a lot of salt and they came unsalted, but thats really just personally our preference. We all enjoyed a local beer, having the Farmyard Brew Co Sheaf Ale, absolutely recommend this, we liked it so much we immediately went online to order some. It is quite a small venue but service was quick, not a huge fan of the order form system but I understand its practicality in a small business. Overall, great food, would recommend. Apology for the lack of photo but we were very hungry and ate it all before I could remember to take one

Wonderful selection of beers and delicious food - a must try spot in Keswick

29/07/23 Disappointed. Food was OK although the guacamole seemed distinctly shop bought rather than made to order/on the premises. The nachos were average at best as the beef was very dry. Portions were reasonable - lots of chorizo, but mean sized nachos - but our overall feeling was that it was more like chain pub food but with higher prices. Plus points: The Mescalito cocktail was lovely apparently and the Estrella didn t disappoint. The staff were friendly and helpful so no issues there. Biggest issue for me was the fact that they forgot our chorizo order, which turned up c.20 minutes after the rest of our food. We needed some bread to eat it with (we d eaten the nachos and the tortilla chips) and they took ages to bring this. I thought the least they could do was provide the bread for free but no, that was charged full price. A poor experience overall and we felt we d had be very average pub food rather than specialist Mexican tapas. Perhaps good for a drink but much better options elsewhere in my opinion: for Nachos and better tapas, go to the Square Orange (but be prepared to wait; for better atmosphere and higher quality food, try The Round.

Really lovely food and an excellent selection of tequila! I had the patatas bravas, garlic prawns, and the padron peppers all of which were excellent. Make sure you book a table as the bookings fill up fast and walk-ins mostly only get a table if a booking fails to show...

Had a birthday meal here with my daughters. Tried to book on line and was full, so took a chance and wandered in on the day and thankfully they keep some tables free for walk ins! Food (tapas) was excellent and served promptly. My fussy vegetarian daughter struggled a little to find enough tapas things she would like, but I think the cocktails helped! Cant wait to go back.

As I sat down at my table in Keswicks premier Mexican restaurant, the views and the thumping bass lines of modern EDM promised something special. Unfortunately, between staring at the corner of the room from our table (literally facing the corner with just a guitar for company), the friendly but strangely timed service and terribly bland food failed to deliver. The staff are all very nice, friendly and happy to help, but considering its Mexican food, the about of tobasco I had to add was verging on silly. The chips and dips seem to be store bought, and while the food was well cooked and fine, nothing had genuine flavour. A quick mention of the cocktails as these were good.

Just slightly (50 yards) off the main routes of Keswick, this is a gem! We just racked up at teatime hungry and we pleased to be able to sit outside (the restaurant upstairs was fully-booked anyway). The menu was quite big; the premises seemed quite small; prices were very reasonable both for summer 2023 and The Lakes; staffing was sufficient & friendly - and communication was good with quite speedy service. We had nachos and tacos (without jalapeños) and were very pleased all round.

Very disappointed last night Group of 4 as Id been few weeks ago and all was amazing However last night totally different Patatas Bravas overcooked and bland , cheese wedges were as dry as stone and the Chipotle mushroom tacos were so spicy not one of us could manage them ( and I thrive on spicy food ) Complained to staff but still got charged full Will definitely never go back

I had my doubts that we couldnt get seated at first because of how busy it looked but once we got seated I felt a bit of relief the nachos are to die for the onion rings were just perfect and those pulled pork spicy tacos are the bomb will 100% be coming back to this restaurant again very very soon!

Great food. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere with quiet music. Recommend booking if you have a large group although we did manage to get a table as walkins for 4 people. Dog friendly. Wish it was open earlier as would have been a lovely lunch spot! Definitely recommend. Even the fussiest eaters should find options they enjoy. Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie options. We had about 5-6 dishes to share between 4, all vegetarian. Thoroughly enjoyed! Parking: Lots of parking within a few minutes walk

Really good food, excellent service, nice atmosphere. Could be easy to miss as it is set back from the main high street, but is in very close proximity to all the other bars and restaurants in Keswick and is absolutely worth finding as it is one of the best! Favourite place we ate that week, everything we had was delicious but recommend the enchiladas and the pulled pork tacos

The best restaurant/bar in Keswick by far, fantastic vegan food, great service and funky tunes. We always eat in Bar eS at least a couple of times whenever were staying in Keswick, always a warm welcome, cant wait to come back again!!

A smart theme bar..

We came too this restaurant last year and whenever i go away i always need a night of Mexican food!! And this hit the spot! The service was amazing, the drinks where done beautifully and the food was incredible!! This is a hidden gem and we for sure will be back on our next trip up north! Ps get the quesadillas my gos they are dreamy!!!

Fantastic as ever. We visit every time were in Keswick. The food ordering system is great, the staff are friendly and the patatas bravas are out of this world! Also love to see that they have amazing veggie and vegan options.

We came across this place by accident after wandering round to enjoy the christmas lights. The staff were super friendly and accommodating and the choice of dishes were great. We had a small selection of tapas to share and a larger dish each. Overall the flavours were fantastic and spice not too overpowering, I do think the meatballs were slightly overdone (tough) though. Great atmosphere and very cool to see a SNES set up and working although I didnt get the chance to have a play. Would definitely recommend and come back again.

Tasty and creative tapas served in an intimate yet fairly vibrant restaurant. Good wine choices. Wouldve loved to have stayed longer but two very loud speaking Outdoor Gear Sales Reps came and sat on the end of our table and completely drowned our quiet conversation.

First time trying here! Absolutely amazing tapas we are on a trip away from Newcastle and will be returning to try the tacos alone! Squeezed us in last minute on a Monday night! Staff were amazing. Highly recommend!

Great staff, nice food. The fact that there is a whole vegan menu is BRILIANT. Perhaps there could be vegan mince and sour cream in the future but there is already a lot of choice so definitely not complaining! The restaurant has such a nice atmosphere. It looks cool, the music fits along and the staff is super nice (and all handsome ) thanks guys

Good enough tapas and drinks, with no complaints, but preferred The Square Orange around the corner

I love spicy Spanish and mexican food. I was not let down. Drinks were great and they had a large range of Tequilas and Mezcals. We ordered everything we could from the Tapas menu and were absolutely stuffed. Some great spices and flavours. The team were very friendly and the rooms were quite intermittent which helped sell the Hispanic vibe. Pretty good value too!

Lovely little tapas bar with authentic food and atmosphere- we go every time we are in keswick. Cocktails are fantastic too x
