Warmly styled rooms with flat-screen TVs in an enduring pub with a cosy lounge bar.
I recently organised a Christmas get together for work colleagues at the Kings Arms. I found Caroline from Lake District Hotels really helpful over the telephone when booking the accommodation. We enjoyed pre dinner drinks in the hotel bar and then ate in the restaurant area and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly throughout our stay and I would definitely return in the future.
Called in for lunch today with my wife. I ordered the giant Yorkshire Pudding with beef feather. The beef was excellent, tasty and succulent. The veg was drastically undercooked to the extent that the sprouts simply could not be penetrated with a knife. The Yorkshire Pudding, and this is the biggest sin for me being a Yorkshire man, was no more than 1 inch high and the base was so rubbery I really had to chew on it.|£20 down the drain. The Orange and Ginger cheese cake however was a joy, but maybe from outside supplier. A bit of a disappointment I think.
Enjoyed a lovely couple of nights here. Room was great but as you'd expect in a building of this age, a bit cosy. We had a meal on the bar in the evening washed down with some nice local ales, and a cracking cooked breakfast. Little bit noisy in the morning from the street but that's to be expected and wasn't so loud to be annoying. The other side of that of course is being right in the middle of town and handy for everything in Keswick. Recommended.
We arrived at keswick at lunchtime and parked in the central car park. If you book directly with the Kings Arms, you can walk to the hotel and they will sort your parking online at a reduced cost, so no need to pay the full rates in the car park. Dont bother to phone up as the email states, just go straight to the Kings Arms. We were also allowed to drop off our luggage, as we were a few hours too early to check in.||The Kings Arms was very busy when we arrived, so we decided to walk around Keswick and have a few drinks before returning later in the afternoon to check in.||Check in was fast and staff were very pleasant. The room was spacious, clean and had every thing we needed. The bed was large and very comfortable.||In the restaurant, there was a good range of options available from the menu. We didnt have to wait long for the starters or the main meal. The food was delicious, of decent portion size and at reasonable prices.||The breakfast was faultless. For starters, you are offered toast and a pot of tea and / or coffee, which is large enough for 3 or 4 cups in each. You can have fruit juice, cereal etc if you want, but we had the full Cumbrian breafast, which was very good indeed. We were constantly offered more tea, coffee and toast.||We found the hotel was perfect. Good food and drink, the staff looked smart and were very pleasant and although a little early, it did look very nice with the christmas decorations and tree on display in the bar and retaurant.||We will certainly be visiting th Kings Arms again in the near future.
Went here for lunch it was recommended by a friend. Staff were very friendly. The place was clean and tidy. The ladies toilet was basic but clean the only downside was the toilet roll was up on the wall behind the toilet. Vegetarian options were very limited so i ended up with fish and chips. The food was nice but nothing special and for the price the fish was a bit thin. The steak pie was disappointing it had very thin pastry and the content was very small amounts of meat. Although we enjoyed our meal we wont recommend this place as i think the food was not worth the price
Saturday night out managed to get a table despite being busy. Had to wait at the bar while the girl cleared a table for us. Only seemed to be her in the restaurant but she did a great job despite being busy and on her own. Lovely pie and chips bit of a wait but explained it was cooked fresh.
We will definitely be back here, rooms are small but absolutely lovely, bed was extremely comfortable. Only bad thing in the room was the shower head was keep falling down, not a biggy just an annoyance. Bar area was great with good selection of proper beers. Our breakfast was lovely, had Eggs Benedict, was lush but the yolk wasn't runny sadly. All in all brilliant place to stay, thank you.
We’ve been coming to Keswick for a lot of years and also stopped here on several occasions and always been happy with the service . The last two times we’ve been I’ve found the bar staff very unhelpful when drinking Hendricks Gin cucumber goes with this, my husband asked have you got any cucumber and got no lime and lemon, when it looked like a senior member said yes we have I’ll go and get you some . ( nice gentleman) went again yesterday lovely sunny day to be greeted by another young lad asked for cucumber no got none, no please, no thank you when I paid him. How do these people get through an interview when they’re so rude and cannot be bothered to keep the customer happy. .
After finding a table that would accommodate us .we ordered at the bar with only 2 minutes to spare . After our meal, I asked if there was any accessible toilet. I was told we could go into the bar next door . We didnt feel comfortable doing this
Took 45 mins to get food and when we said we had to go as we were out of time the girl just looked as if we re joking. By that point all we wanted was a refund. Will never go back ruined a great day as we were on a tour that only left a fixed amount of time. Not good service. We asked for it to boxed up it took way too long.
We loved the location, the rooms were spotless and beautifully decorated. The bar area and staff was so warm and welcoming and food superb. Really looking forward to next time.
Friendly bar staff. Good beer. Decent prices. Relaxing bar to have a quiet drink.
Went in for a drink last Friday, around 9pm, with a group of 10 people. Unfortunately there were no seats available in the bar so we asked if we could sit in the empty restaurant but we were told no its closed. So we left. Youd think with the difficulties that hospitality is facing theyd welcome the custom !
Had a super meal at this dog friendly hotel.
Called in for Sunday roast the potatoes were inedible and the staff ignored our complaint and walked away, we was eventually offered chips to replace the roast potatos with no apology whatsoever terrible service
Just had drinks nice atmosphere friendly staff Food and drinks: Nice selection of beers Location : 5/5 Hotel highlights
Room we were in was small, but adequate. Beautiful decor ,comfy large bed, large TV. Shower room looked brand new as did nearly everything. The choice of meals at breakfast was staggering and the quality amazing. Best I,ve had. Only a couple of gripes. Parking for 24hrs in keswick 12+. Although not city rates, an added cost as no parking at hotel. Bit tricky to get to top floor. Where our room was. Defo. Not wheelchair accessible , no lift. But I would definitely stay here again. Great value for money.
We only called in for drinks twice. A good old fashioned pub. Ideal for a relaxing pint after a long hike.
Popped in for meal. Was welcomed in by the wonderful Mim whos service was superb all evening. Approachable, knowledgeable, cheerful, polite and fun. Food was very good. Beer was good. Lamb Yorkshires and chicken hanging kebab were both great. Service throughout from Mim, Adam and young blonde girl whos name I didnt see (apologies). However when the food was delivered George the manager came over. My wife asked for some mint sauce which was clearly a major inconvenience to George the manager. He grunted and brought it over. We paid the bill and then noticed that 2 glasses of wine had been added to our table by mistake. Mim apologised (which was fine and wasnt really a bother) and said shes have to get her manager to refund. No probs. She explained to George who vanished, then came back and barked at my wife just need the card and that was that. No apology or explanation as to what he was doing. Overall pretty good and I wont let the one manager undo the fine service from Mim (especially), Adam and friends. Hope they get the commendation they deserve
Absolutely abysmal service, literally zero customer care, £130 bill for what obky can be described as oven food, staff didnt come to the table for the whole experience and had to beg to get another drink, avoid at all costs, we certainly wont be back. Food and drinks: Absolutely abysmal service, literally zero customer care, £130 bill for what obky can be described as oven food, staff didnt come to the table for the whole experience and had to beg to get another drink, avoid at all costs, we wont be back.
Pub very busy
Were there for Dinner. Got the menu to order. Chose our dishes and showed off. That a dish should not contain milk or mustard because of allergies. The waitress left. After 1 minute I came to her with a clipboard and said quite rudely that there was mustard in it. We should find something else. But the paper on the clipboard only listed the names of the dishes and the allergies. It took a while until we got a card. We were finally able to choose a dish. Spaghetti Bolognese according to the declaration without mustard and without milk As a condition with the 2 dishes, there was cheese grated on top of the spaghetti Bolognese. When told that it was milk, the dish was taken away. In the meantime the other dish had already been eaten. Until the allergy-friendly dish came along. There is an additional star because it tasted good.
Poor
We called in on the off chance of a table and were given one with the proviso we need it back by 8pm . It was 7pm. Service was non existent when trying to order. Eventually we got served after a lot of eye contact and we both ordered Cumberland sausage with seasonal veg. The seasonal veg never turned up, but as the menu had been taken away we couldn t argue. We didn t get anyone checking in for drinks, we didn t get any sort of service at all really and by 8.30 were chasing the bill. Another table asked the waitress what the soup of the day was. She had no idea and her solution was to get a bowl of it and see if the customer liked it! Good food, shoddy service.
Well kept ales friendly helpful bar staff.
Wonderful overnight stay here, beautiful cosy pub and our room was lovely. Friendly service and the full English in the morning was spot on. 1000% recommend
Stayed for one night and the room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was OK but lacked what others manage to offer.
Staff very helpful.great breakfast.debbie and her team run a tight ship.
We understood we were staying in the centre of the town, but were surprised by the early morning (4-6am) noise from the market s setup and beer deliveries. Apart from the efficient, friendly and helpful shift manager, the staff provided a very basic level of service, and were often hard to locate. The food was ok and the hotel and our room was good and clean.
Pleasent staff and good service, good selection of food with a dog friendly area by the bar area
Great lunch, excellent beer.
Our visit to the Kings Arms in Keswick for a meal turned out to be less than satisfactory. Despite struggling to secure a table elsewhere due to full bookings, we found several available tables here. Unfortunately, our experience took a negative turn from the moment we arrived, as the reception from the barmaid lacked warmth, making it apparent that serving us was a burden. Nonetheless, we decided to proceed with our evening. My partner ordered the Seabream while I opted for the Chicken Burger. Regrettably, the French fries accompanying the burger arrived stone cold. In retrospect, we should have addressed this issue with the waitress immediately, as it raised concerns about kitchen standards. Nevertheless, we consumed the meal without complaint. Its worth noting that we had the same dishes throughout the weekend leading up to this experience. After staying for another drink before leaving, I woke up on Sunday feeling extremely unwell, exhibiting symptoms of food poisoning such as vomiting, cramping, diarrhoea, and fatigue, which lasted for a full 24 hours. Interestingly, my partner felt fine. Disappointed but hesitant to publicly criticise, we reached out to the Group Operations Manager the next day. However, the response received was defensive, showing reluctance to acknowledge fault or take preventive measures to safeguard future patrons. Despite assurances of a thorough investigation, we have yet to receive any formal findings weeks later. Our intention in addressing this matter was not to tarnish the businesss reputation or seek compensation but rather to hold them accountable and prompt necessary improvements to prevent similar incidents.
Lovely hotel. Rooms beautiful. Well decorated. Rooms: Beautifully decorated Rooms : 5/5 |
Food ok Yorkshire pudding flat and hard to cut
So friendly staff and great food. Feels nearly like home.
Really poor service staff didn t seem interested at all very overpriced waited over hour for food whilst people who came after us got served ate their food and left landlord seemed very disinterested food very ordinary considering the over price compared to every where else in Keswick waitress not interested as she didn t take the order so many lovely places in Keswick to eat there is no need to go to this place as every where else is better avoid like the plague . Food and drinks: Nothing out the ordinary considering it s more expensive than everywhere else in Keswick way nicer places to go avoid like the plague
Understaffed, only two waiters, never got asked if we like more drinks which we needed as took ages to get food. Fairly pricey menu and first two things I asked for they didnt have. Only thatchers gold for standard cider
Good beer, terrible, expensive food. Took an hour and a half to serve two starters and a main. Very poor, slow service. We had to ask at the bar for an update after an hour. Goats cheese in the starter had very obviously been rolled in panko breadcrumbs, but not fried, despite this being given as the reason for it taking an hour and half. Raw panko is very hard and gritty. Waitress asked about this and took it back to the kitchen, where it was promptly returned slightly warmed. Panko was still raw so assume it was microwaved, and unfortunately, this had not solved the problem. Partner had the vegan chilli, which is chilli on tortilla chips. This was stated on the menu tbf, but be warned that youre paying £18 for what is basically a standard portion of nachos. For the price, youd assume itd come with rice or be a decent portion size. If youre hungry, maybe order two mains. Overall, this was a really poor experience. If youre a visitor to Keswick or on holiday, looking for a place to eat, I wouldnt recommend. I used to work in hospitality, and know how hard pub staff work, so I didnt enjoy posting this, but Id not touch this place again with a bargepole. £50, hour and a half wait, very disappointing. There are lots of other nice places I wish wed gone to instead!
Amazing food! Waited quite a while but was very busy! Very popular!
Good food
The kings arms is the place to stay in Keswick. With stunning views, a central location and some of the best staff you ll find. Nigel the duty manager is a top bloke who goes above and beyond. In the morning, Agnes and Debbie on duty do all they can to ensure that you have the best stay. Nothing is too much trouble!
Once again a very nice place for a meal
Popped in with Ic and Flic to this hotel and bar. I must have been here before but dont remember it. A very knowledgable barman...especially as 1) he knew Flat Eric and 2) he knew the history of Courage Directors. Had a Loweswater Gold, todays guest and one of my favourites. Swaps with Coniston Bluebird, another of my favourites. We were not eating but food looks very good. Lovely vibe. Good real ale destination. A Marstons pub. ... with a Cask Marque.
Friendly welcome although the staff member was rather distracted talking to another colleague. Only popped in for a drink. Bar was busy with a friendly atmosphere. Well kept Cask Ale. Would visit again.
We stayed here last night and would highly recommend. Very clean and well decorated rooms. Friendly staff who went above and beyond and helped excellent location. Will definitely stay here again
I havent stayed here, thats why theres no stars for a room (have thought about it though), but... ...I have been using the bar for the last three years and sadly this will be our last year, because Ive just been charged £1.40 for a dash of blackcurrent cordial! YES £1.40!!!! At a rough calculation, that would be around £30 for a pint of cordial. WOW! On asking the bar person/hotel manager, a portly gentleman with a beard, about the cost incurred. He replied thats the price for a splash of black current, I can give you a free glass of water if you want. Luckily, I have self control. #@&£#@&! We will continue to visit keswick every year, as its a wonderful place. The Kings Arms, will not receive our money again. The cost of living has gone up, but this is profiteering on a huge scale. A bottle of cordial doesnt even cost £1.40. My money spends anywhere, but not on rip off bar prices. Adios Kings Arms. Noteworthy details: Very Expensive
Food was diabolical. Raw burger served up with no apology given when brought to attention of staff. Just a head down shuffle away from miserable faced barman/waiter/bellboy and whatever else this understaffed hotel employed him as. Could have been the raw burger chef too Noteworthy details: None
Nice breakfast and dinner, portions are quite large, generally tasty and service is excellent.
Great beers
Stayed over night for NYE with my partner and the dog. Was greeted by an excellent duty manager Nigel, we have stayed in the lakes before and been disappointed, just from Nigel s welcome we knew we weren t going to be this time, a very professional and friendly manager. The room was lovely and clean with a good view dog the square, also had a dog bed and bowls for our dog. Breakfast was great, incredibly set out and even catered for our little dog. Will 100% be returning.
Food and drinks: Nice place, pet friendly. Service
Good food and good ales
Excellent, large rooms, very comfortable, recently refurbished, tea and coffee, hairdryer nice ensuite, very good breakfast with lots of choice. I had full English, my wife had eggs benedict. Perfect location in the market place. Most rooms allow dogs as well. Rooms: Large and recently refurbished, most accept dogs. Rooms on the front could have some noise early on a morning on market days, Thursday and Saturday. We stopped in 4, very large, huge bed, sofa and chairs, loads of storage, many nice features such as beams. Nearby activities: Right in market place so all shops, pubs and restaurants on your doorstep Walkability: All amenities a minute or twos walk from the Hotel Food and drinks: Excellent traditional food and drink, lovely restaurant and relaxing bar area
Great Xmas stop package. Excellent food. Room choice critical.... Rooms : 3/5
Excellent place to stay right in centre of town. Lovely clean comfy room overlooking square but in bathroom earplugs were provided if you wanted them for early morning noise Ate in restaurant 1st night staff very friendly & polite & food lovely. Only grouse we had was the wine glasses very cheap looking& the wine isnt!! Good wine needs good wine glasses Weather spoons & Skiddaw had better wine glasses. Our 1st morning decorators still finishing off in reception & bedroom doors near our room Breakfast was very good excellent selection of fresh fruit, cereals yoghurts etc & spoilt for choice cooked breakfast Overall excellent stay & would go back & highly recommend
We had an amazing dinner. The sea bass was delicious and the Yorkshire pudding was amazing as well. Service was GREAT!
I stopped for food with my partner and our dog following a decent hike near Keswick. The pub is dog friendly and the staff brought over water and a treat which was very appreciated! The food we ordered was brilliant (blue cheese burger and Steak and Ale pie). It was all freshly cooked and portions were enough that we didn t need to eat the rest of the day! The staff provided cooked sausages with our dinner for the dog too. Brilliant
Stayed for two nights, quirky small hotel, very tastefully decorated and cosy, room was small but adequate, bed was very comfortable, warm. Ear plugs are provided as Saturday morning is Market day in Keswick, the stalls are being erected from 5.30am, we were aware of this before hand as we have visited the town on numerous occasions, so not an issue for us. Food was very good and plenty of choice. Cooked breakfasts was plentiful but could have been warmer, some parts were almost cold! Enjoyable stay, would visit again. Dog friendly is a bonus for us
Such a lovely stay last night for my husband s birthday . Recent refurbishment is gorgeous and still in keeping with the home from home atmosphere this hotel has always had.for us. However you really need to rethink using room 14 as a dog friendly room. It is just too small for a double bedroom let alone a dog bed. Very little floor space as the bed takes up most of the room. Had to step over the dog and dog bed to get to the bathroom and room door.
I took advantage of a reopening offer to take a mini business break with my dogs. The room was lovely but very small so if you are going with larger dogs, Id ask for a bigger room. As with most town based hotels, its a short walk from the car park which you have to pay for at a discounted rate. I worked in the bar for a while and was in heaven - so many dogs! Although I wouldnt say they are dog welcoming in the way that some places make a fuss of your dogs, it is most definitely dog friendly. Evening meal was really good and the breakfast was even better. Couple of little hiccups with service (bar was busy and only had one person serving and he had to go and get ice, leaving the bar unmanned), and there was a small mistake with my breakfast order, but all in all, very happy with my stay and would recommend to anyone. Rooms: Mine was very small and difficult to navigate with 2 dogs, but beautifully decorated to a high standard. Walkability: Its about 3-4 minute walk to the hotel. Food and drinks: Dinner & breakfast were pretty good standard for a hotel/pub, would eat there again. Noteworthy details: If you are on your own with dogs, you might need a couple of trips to the car as its not next to the hotel. I called the hotel from the car park & sorted the payment before hand.
I find it hard not to score all pubs in keswick high, its my favourite town to visit. This pub is well worth a visit the barman was very friendly.
Good quality pub food. Helpful waiting staff and a pleasant ambiance.
Me and my friend went for food and a drink, and we found the service very poor. It was a quiet Monday afternoon, 10 mins before food was going to stop. Food was ok, not worth the price. £17 for fish and chips also £17 for a Cumberland sausage and mash (which was very over powered by mustard). We were thinking about having desserts, however the waiter assumed we wanted the bill after our mains, which left a sour taste. We paid the bill and left. We definitely won t be in a rush to return! Food and drinks: Not a great lunch!
Very friendly staff especially Debbie she welcomed everyone with a cheery good morning lovely breakfast no need to book just 1st come 1st serve. Will definitely go again I had veggy bfast best Ive ever had tbh. Didnt stay it was a day trip for a sunrise walk Food and drinks: Gorgeous veggy breakfast tea toast the lot. Husband enjoyed his too but with bacon sausage etc
Great service, present staff, very accommodating. Food was good also.
Myself and my husband have just had a 3 night stay. The staff were very welcoming, polite and obliging nothing was to much trouble. The room was small (room 5) but adequate, and very clean, fresh and well ventilated. The food was outstanding, especially the pies, and the braised beef and Yorkshire pudding. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. We will definitely return as the staff were brilliant with our crazy, over fussy, jumping doodle.
Poor food for the price. Nice atmosphere but a Yorkshire pudding & veg that is subpar to school dinners, and chicken kebabs covered in five spice
Didnt stay here though came for an afternoon drink. Nice traditional interior with some interesting nooks to sit in. Good ales on offer.
Evening meal was poor for the price. £28 for a steak and chips, which was average to say the least. Diners beware.
Doesnt feel as cozy or warm since the refurbishment. I miss the carpet in the bar area and the cheese board from the menu.
A group of 8 couples(aged between 38 and 50) went into the bar on Friday night for drinks. All just enjoying the conversation amongst ourselves, just like the other people in their groups were. We purchased a round of drinks and then after a short while we moved away from the bar area to a seated area once other people had left. Wed finished our drinks and a member of our party went to the bar to purchase another round but was refused and told we wont be served anything more to drink. We questioned why but apparently a few of us were supposedly too drunk. This was not the case but we accepted it and said thats fine as we left the pub. We proceeded to the next bar (the sports bar) but before all of us got inside the barman/manager from the previous pub marched in and said to the bar staff we hadnt to be served. Again we questioned why and we were told some people were falling over drunk which was again, not the case! In conclusion we will not be back and we will pass this feedback on to other friends. Maybe if wed of been dressed in walking gear and had a dog with us things might of been different. To add, there was no aggression or raised voices shown towards the staff at any point we just simply wanted to know what the problem was.
Honestly the worst and most expensive burger I ve ever had. But the staff were amazing - especially a young blonde lady, she was great!
Service excellent. Staff very friendly and efficient.
We had Sunday lunch today it was perfect, the beef was cooked to perfection it was so tender and 3 good slices .the roasts and Yorkshire puds were beautiful, the vedge was perfect too.proper gravy no thick glupe like so many places .10/10 to the chef, staff lovely too.
My husband, brother and I had an excellent meal at the Kings Arms this evening. We ordered the Chicken & Bacon Pie, the Giant Yorkshire Pudding & the Fish Pie. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our mains with just enough room for some sorbet. All the staff are pleasant and friendly but I have to give a special mention to Mark. Such a warm & welcoming young man. He interacts so well with the customers. A real asset to your business.
Please note this is a review of the public bar only -I cant testify to the rooms. This spacious and slightly grand old hotel has a promising in date Cask Marque in the front door so I was reassured it must be doing something right. Inside the bar is tastefully decorated with a combination of tables and some easy chairs. There was at least three real ales in including Wainwright Gold and Coniston Bluebird. The beer was is excellent shape and nice and cool. Therefore if you like real ale be sure to not overlook this location.
The hotel itself was nice however the noise is ridiculous. We didn t get any sleep because the room was next to the outdoor bar with sports TVs blaring and drunk people screaming all night. And our room was SO HOT because we were above the kitchen. Not a relaxing experience at all!! Do not book here if you actually want to get any shut eye, i d expect more for the price!
Food excellent Walkability: Easy accesd Service : 5/5 |
Good, solid and tasty pub food.
Typical lakes pub, restaurant and hotel.. Nothing fancy but just really really nice
Always perfect
Nice place to have a drink and friendly
Review of the restaurant/pub only. I ordered the Vegan pie. The bartender instead ordered me the veggie burger and when the waitress came with the burger, I told them thats not what I ordered. So she came back to the table with my friends meal a moment later and she asked me what I ordered. I told her the vegan pie. Then they came back a third time with more staff and they told me the bartender said I ordered the burger. Why does this matter? Of course the bartender thinks I ordered what he wrote down. Why would I mistake what I ordered? Did they think I was trying to rip them off because the burger was cheaper or something ( I dont even know if it was), it felt a bit insulting. Then when I finally got my pie, it didnt come with mashed potatoes or fries. I asked the waitresses, isnt this supposed to come with potatoes, and she told me no. On my way out I double checked the menu at the door and indeed it was supposed to come with either mashed potatoes or fires. Made me really angry....Oh and how was the pie? It was okay. The crust was slightly undercooked but the inside was decent. Nothing to write home about.
Lovely, cosy place with friendly staff. We stopped in for a few drinks with our doggo. The guys behind the bar were lovely. One note, if you identify as female the bathroom is up a flight of stairs (unlike the mens) so if you have a reduced mobility or a bum knee like me just allow yourself time to get up there.
Called in for lunch. Fabulous food and friendly staff. Food and drinks: Great food at lunchtime. Handy after a mornings shopping in Keswick, very handy on the main street. Service : 5/5 |
Had Food in the Kings Arms, one of the worst meals Ive paid for. Childrens Pizza were straight out of the freezer & burnt on top. I had a BBQ chicken burger that was tastless, overcooked & cold. Wife had a Blue cheese Burger that was overcooked and lacking blue cheese. The skinny chips were good.
Food and drinks: Lovely pub lunch. Very good value for money and very tasty. Hotel highlights
First time visiting since I left and I wasnt disappointed, I came into the kings with my parents to meet some friends, Wow! Great service! The make over looks amazing BTW, and the food out of this world, stunning. Thankyou Kate for your excellent service. I will be back... Beer was lush as well! Sammi Food and drinks: Outstanding, food and drink.
Stayed here over a long weekend. Staff very helpful and friendly. Central location in Keswick. The rooms for the price are a tad small, and if you are at the front of the hotel, it can get very noisy at night with pub goers and markets in the am. 3 stars for the overall experience.
Terrible food at ridiculous prices. £18 (no drink) for a meal that seemed like it was made in the microwave. My partners chicken pie (which was also £18) was not fully cooked when it came out, they took it away and reheated it but didnt bring any cutlery back. I then had to go chase them down. If I hadnt had to pay up front I would have refused to pay. We heard some people mentioning the head chef was off on the night (9th aug 23), however we will never go back
Totally disappointed with the mash that I got with my Cumberling sausage. Got totally overloaded with mustered didnt even get a discount for food I didnt eat just a sorry and a soft telling off to the chef waited half an hour for this and I couldnt be more disappointed
Visited today with family on a day trip to Keswick. Seated fast and drinks order taken quickly. My son (14) ordered the Cumberland sausage ring with creamy mustard mash and onion gravy...well....nearly all of his meal was left, as the mash was completely overpowered by the mustard, sausage was undercooked and pink in the middle. No vegetables served with it either. Not worth the £18 price on this meal at all! No one came to do a check back after receiving our food. After asking for the bill, we did complain about this meal but all we got was a sorry and Ill tell the chef No offer of any discount on our bill that came to £72. Kids meal larger plate of pasta was tiny....for £7.95! If in Keswick, avoid and go somewhere better to spend your hard earned cash.
Food good service a bit erratic good beer
Great hotel in a great Location. Rooms are small but clean and bathrooms are good sized and renovated. Staff are friendly and breakfast was great.
Nice pint
Its an ok pub - I think people go there more for the food. Poor beer selection and expensive drinks. Would we go back (for drinks)? No. Better pubs in Keswick.
Had a meal here with friends after a long day of walking. Drink orders were processed quickly, food took almost an hour to receive. I ordered the vegan mushroom and ale pie. Was on the expensive side of things, £18.50. Was happy to pay more for a vegan option in order to have a meal with friends. The pie was served and it had no gravy with it, despite the fact that all other pies did. When I enquired about this the server said the gravy was in the pie. This seemed silly and unnecessary as they had to use a vegan friendly version to make the pie. As a result, I was made to tip the pie out of the pan in order to have some form of gravy with the potato. This resulted in sad mashed potato with very little gravy. Most packet gravy is vegan. For that price it should have been better. Gravy should have been served for that price. This would have been fair as every other pie had this, or the price should have reflected this instead. And a vegan it should not have been the same price if that was not an option. Let s be honest, mushrooms would cost far less than meat. We should not be expected to pay the same for a leaser product. Nearby activities: Close to all the great walks and in the centre of the town.
Fantastic service from all staff especially Tom on the bar. He made sure we were well looked after and our drinks were perfect.
Just had a lovely week in the lakes and tried the kings arms for food, liked it so much we went back for another meal, the staff were friendly and helpful the food was great hot tasty and plentiful would definitely recommend the kings arms for food and drinks
Always a warm and friendly welcome with lovely rooms, great staff and amazing location.
A very warm welcome. Lovely room right on the front. However, lots of early morning noise with beer delivery. Great bonus though, they provide ear plugs! The breakfast waiter was fabulous (had been nannying in The Far East). The breakfast selection was great. Didnt eat in for dinner as we wanted to explore. Dozens of places to eat out. Photo shows view from our window to hills beyond.
Went here for food after a long day of walking. I ordered the Burger and Seasonal Vegetables - the seasonal vegetables were some microwaved frozen peas and green beans and carrots. Very dry with no seasoning for 5 pounds. My partner ordered the sausages and mash which he said had no flavour.
Terrible food . Feel sorry for the staff they all seem fed up and deflated
£19 for a burger, served with cold chips and coleslaw that looked congealed, like it had been sat out/in the fridge for too long. Waited ages for food; appreciate it was Saturday night so probably busy, but food was not good for the price we paid. Sadly wouldn t return although the decor was quite nice.
Friendly, and pleasant service,
Excellent service, big selection of beers
Very nice pub with lots of seating and fitting decor. The staff were kind and quick at processing drinks/orders. I had the giant yorkshire pudding - The meat, veg and mash were tasty however the yorkshire was quite tough. My partner had the roasted pumpkin salad - the pumpkin was just mush and it wasnt much of a salad. The only salad was the onions/apple. The charcoal noodles that were in the bottom were very bland and had little taste. Wouldnt recommend this dish at all... It is also quite pricey.
Expensive for what you got (Sunday lunch) was not nice also waiting 1hr for the food was the last to get our food but the first to order, was disappointed.
Poor food and poor service. The hanging kebabs were over cooked and onion was inedible. Apparently the chef says thats the way they are!? Wont be going back if thats the standard of the food and the attitude of the staff.
Excellent stay Excellent breakfast Rooms
Great food, friendly staff and 4 legged friends welcome. We dropped in here for lunch during a short break in The Lakes. The manager made lots of time for our puppy cocker spaniel even although he was clearly very busy. Bar staff and restaurant staff very welcoming. The bar area welcomes humans as well as dogs
Excellent food. Also a great atmosphere in the pub
The kings arms hotel is a great little hotel to stay in, the rooms are clean and cosy. The bar is a good place to chill out and have a few drinks in its warm and friendly atmosphere after a long day hiking with plenty of beverages to choose from. The food served here is amazing from homemade pies, burgers and the good old traditional fish and chips, the food has never disappointed me. I have also noticed alot of different decor ranging from descriptive pictures of the local legends to a few silly ones like dogs in suits. A great place for all the family (including dogs) to stay and have a laugh.
we were in the worst noisy room ever they actually supplied ear plugs was a complete joke £96 pound complete waste of money never again will I ever visit this place again!
Friendly staff and good food
Lovely pub food.
Had a fabulous steak & ale pie Lunch, very large portion. Fabulous tentative staff. Would 100% recommend
Nice beer. Friendly staff. Good stuff
Enjoyed excellent meal and service.
Nice pub food.
We waited a while to be served as no one was on the bar
Cool pub. Nice terrace at the back. Good drink
Good service. Good choice of drinks. Didnt stay or eat here but menu looked good.
Stylish English restaurant, smiling service. A very tasty sandwich.
Lovely place very friendly staff
This a card only payment bar. But there is no indication of this until you order your drinks. When i asked the bar man why it was card only he didnt appear to know why
Some friends and I spent a lovely evening on Saturday enjoying a great range of beer in the Kings Arms which had relaxed surroundings. I realised the following morning that I had left my sunglasses on a table in the bar, so I called them praying they had them. They did! The service was exceptional, and with great communication throughout the sunglasses were posted back to me, just exceptional! Thanks again.
Lovely pub just nipped in after doing skiddaw for a drink staff very friendly nice and clean we sat outside
Nice meal in the restaurant.
We didnt stay just visited for food great food Sunday lunch
The food wasnt too great
Food not good
Recommend both the chicken burger and the tagine. Good choice of beers as well.
Only had drinks
Friendly pub with a good selection of beers. A must visit when in Keswick.
Bang average food at gastro pub prices. The menu looked promising when we arrived. My boyfriend and I both ordered burgers (the moving mountains and BBQ chicken ) and they were distinctly average in both size and quality - majorly disappointing considering they cost £17 each unless you d like to have your pants pulled down I d steer clear!
A lovely place for lunch and a coffee, and dog friendly.
Basic pub, food overpriced and poor atmosphere. We decided to eat elsewhere
Must have been an off day for the chef. Poor quality lunch.
Nice pint friendly staff dog friendly
Best Guinness I ve ever had period (outside of Ireland) This would make Conor mcgregor throw a fight just for a sip of this liquid gold! If you ever have the absolute pleasure of trying it, then I can safely say you have completed life! Ps: the bombardier was delightful!
Lovely pub, really friendly staff and welcoming to families. Delicious food and very clean inside, we will definitely be back in the future when we are in Keswick again
Great pud, good food and beer and very friendly staff.
Visited on a hot day with my husband, daughter and dog. I sat outside while they went in for drinks. My husband discovered it was cooler inside and checked to see if dogs were allowed in and was assured they were. Daughter came out to get me and since as we were near an open door with no signs on and having been told it was dog friendly we went in. I proceded to head to the stairs where my husband was standing at the top. A member of staff came along with a full try of drinks do I stepped to one side to allow him down. I was then really taken by surprise when this member of staff quite harshly berated me for being there with our dog! I actually burst in to tears I was that taken a back. I got to the bar and the barman said yes my husband had asked if ithey were dog friendly and he said they were. Turns out Id walked through a restaurant area where dogs are not allowed. There were no signs on the door I went through stating this. Im not a local or regular visitor, nor am I a mind reader! The bar staff member was very kind and smiley and assuring and gave us free soft drinks with our meal to apologise. However I am still not impressed with the other member of staff who berated me so harshly. Our food was nice in the end. But please, signs are everything!!!!
No cash accepted
In a good spot in the middle of town. A little jaded environment but okay. Our room was poor though - had a very noisy fan right outside so we did not enjoy our stay.
We came here for lunch and could not fault the service. Great food too!
Pub meal: nothing bad, nothing outstanding either.
Great staff. Quite busy. Dogs allowed.
Room fab, food much to be desired.
Great food the pies simply amazing
Great atmosphere and good choice of beers..
Lovely meal great friendly service
Called in for lunch whilst in Grasmere. Nice looking building, homely decor, but you can tell it needs a revamp. Lunch average, poor choice of beers (two - neither local) and disorganised service with an odd atmosphere. Wouldnt recommend.
Lovely room and breakfast was excellent
Typical English country pub. Good food, good ambiance.
Had fish pie - how bland???? Reminded me of kids bringing food home from school cookery classes. Really wanted to stay for dessert but the masses of flies put me off ( I know, difficult to control) but given the poor main meal , I assumed the desserts would be a dollop of something from Iceland freezers. Husband had lamb which was better , hence upd the star rating.
Stopped for an evening meal. Service was okay, but difficult to get anyones attention after we had eaten. Good food.
Very disappointed ordered mine n my husband food & 2 kids meals when I went back for the kids ice cream he then charged me an extra £1.50 which I was not happy about then only brought one lot of ice cream out I had to ask again for the other icream which I was not paying for. The pub at the time was not busy he should of paid more attention to my order instead of talking to whoever was sat at the bar. So needless to say I wont be ordering food again.
We called in for an evening meal and were fortunate to be seated in the restaurant, all tables were well sprayed and cleaned prior to customers being seated. I ordered chicken and ham pie, James opted for beef and ale pie, both served with chunky chips and garden peas. Pies were filled to the brim with meat, meals were delicious hot and very tasty. Unfortunately due to the size of the pies we were both unable to finish our meals; would it be possible to offer a smaller sized pie to avoid having to waste such delightful food. Service was excellent and efficient, and the lager I had was probably the best I had in Keswick all weekend.
We ate at the restaurant and oof - pretty bad. The burger was yucky and the steak was unseasoned, plain as it gets. No ketchup. Save your money and disappointment and eat anywhere else. Even gas station food would be better.
Went into the pub for lunch, not alot of choice but food was alright but found it crowded small dark & dinghy, small tables cramped together, customer service was non existing was never given any cutlery had to find it myself, staff werent interested or friendly. Too many dogs were alowed in who were barking loudly & taken up space, would NOT go back.
Looked good from the outside so we went in for lunch. Not very impressed, the food choices were very limited but we ordered ham sandwiches. The actual food was okay but the service was poor. The barman wasnt particularly interested in serving us, the waitresses who served us were disinterested. We never got a thank you or hope you enjoy the food from anyone, they never even provided cutlery. The decor was interesting but far too cramped with too many tables crammed in. To top it there were far too many dogs allowed in who were barking loudly with their owners struggling to control them We will not be back in a hurry.
The food was not very good the staff need to smile a bit more
Very good stay,no complaints at all. Right in the centre so can be a bit noisy, but hey you are in a high street,it was great to wake up and have a market to look round.Very good breakfast. Rooms
Cozy and comfortable place to have a quiet lunch. Great staff. Ill be back....
Not really that good dog friendly wise and the food not that good
I have been dining at the Kings Arms regularly during my frequent visits to Keswick. When I first experienced the huge pies with their triple cooked (proper) chips it was first class, sadly this wasnt the case on my recent visit a couple of weeks ago. I was left with egg on my face as I told my family how good the food was, I ended up being a tad embarrassed as the pies werent up to their usual standard, I opted for the chicken and ham (usually very good) the pie was very dry and stodgy and there was no gravy to accompany it. The chips were under cooked and were of the frozen variety and not the triple cooked as stated on the menu. This was not a one off as most of my family had the same under cooked chips, the food in general was average at best. I explained to the waiter our disappointment when he collected our plates when he asked if everything was OK, he offered to pass my comments onto the chef to let him know. Shame really as I have always enjoyed the food here, I think Ill be giving it a miss in the future.
No idea about the hotel but the bar is fine. Staff a bit non engaging but the beer was good and the outside seating is good for people watching.
A lovely pub for a quick bite to eat. We had soups with sandwiches and baked potatoes. Reasonably priced. You can get sandwiches toasted and add a soup for £3.
Good there are vegan options, but quite disappointed with the vegan pie which is not a pie: they should call it ratatouille topped with salty crumble. I was expecting a real pie with a crust and not just veggies. Also it came with potatoes so there was no protein in the meal, it s not nutritiously equilibrated and i had to eat again after. The service wasn t exceptional: we aren t proposed sugar with coffee and they didn t ask before changing the icecream to another one because it was missing. Food was okay, to be improved.
Popped in for a quick drink. Decor inside is a bit tired looking but think they sre doing a refurb
Busy pub/hotel. Well kept real ales.
Evening meal only. Service was poor. Food was chicken and ham pie, served with peas and chips. Pie tasted like a poor quality tin of chicken soup was poured over the chicken and ham pieces. A spoon was needed, Certainly not worth the money I paid.
Restaurant was very busy when we arrived, we had not booked, we were told to have a drink in the bar and a table would be available in a few minutes they would fetch us; 3/4 of an hour later we were still waiting so walked out!
Rooms: Very cosy bed and great space Food and drinks: Wow food was amazing Rooms : 5/5 |
It was only a one night stay but would definitely re book . Room very clean large comfortable bed and the bathroom was spacious and again very clean. Had lovely evening meal and breakfast. The staff were very helpful and friendly. You can obtain a discounted parking permit for the carpark at the rear of the hotel.
Tbh, didnt stay here but we spent a few hours in the bar and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, if you want a chilled out pub with a decent atmosphere then this is the place for you, cheers guys
Service diabolical, avoid !!!,food expensive, portions tiny, they are ripping you off dont bother!!
The place really looked the part from the outside and the decor was in theme with a traditional pub/restaurant. We were sat down quickly and our order was taken quickly. Unfortunately thats where things went down hill, the food took a while to come out and mine and my partners was cold. My partner took a bit of her toastie and it was cold inside too. We told the waiter and he was sympathetic and said he will get it sorted. The food came back out shortly after and they had microwaved the food!! Salad was ruined, maybe wouldnt have noticed it the bite was taken out of my partners. My sons mash potato was very lumpy and bland so I complained to the waiter who didnt really have much to say. I asked to speak to the manager. Explained and he took off my partners and sons meals leaving my microwaved tostie still on the bill. Considering the large write up on the head chef who Im sure is very good it was very disappointing.
The onion rings and beef and ale pie were awesome! Service was good too. Cosy place for a good afternoon lunch. Food and drinks: Great beef and ale pie and onion rings.
Well, what can I say, Ive sat here for an hour after my orders were taken and the food still hasnt arrived. Id say to those visiting Keswick to look elsewhere.
Located in the centre of Keswick. Sunday lunch was delicious
Stopped in for a light lunch, very disappointed ordered two coffees , tuna baked potato & ham & cheese toastie. Service very poor one coffee arrived & after about ten minutes I had to remind staff about the missing coffee. Onion rings that came with toastie were raw & baked potato was quite frankly inedible, skin like leather. Very very disappointed staff seemed uninterested. just a job, no customer service
We have just had 2 lovely nights at the Kings Arms. Our room was nice & warm, clean & well appointed. Food, & breakfast was all good quality. Only slight downside was the restaurant was a bit cold when having our breakfast. Other than that we would definitely go back.
Lovely pub with great staff. The beef and ale pie was amazing.
Regular location for a meal after a walk, but the first visit since December 2019. Food excellent, service good. Should be a 5 star rating, but 1 star deducted because of they wont take cash payments
Great place to spend a night with friends
Had a lovely meal in the restaurant.
called in for a drink, nice cosy pub a little dated but roaring fire on a cold winter nice is allways appreciated, we didnt have food but a couple sitting beside is said the food was very good.
Order half chicken salted fries chicken deep fried half within inch of its life chips cold and to much salt so chicken boned and taken home for dog courtons in salad not crispy and portion of onion rings never turned up waitress very apologetic and Brought a free sweet without asking we were tucked away in conner and think forgotten about hense issues with chicken and onion rings but waitress when she came was keen to make it up.
Great place. Attentive staff. Staff treat you like a hotel guest rather than just another face at the bar.
