Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room and nice breakfast. Products in the room were really nice and there were some nice touches such as fresh milk and a pillow spray and eye masks.

Came here for food, glad I booked as the place was rammed. Service was good, with table service. Food was ok. I had a chicken cesar salad and it was all toppings and very little salad. As a carnivore, I was OK with this but I can see other people not being impressed.

Very centrally located in Keswick with easy access to the local shops, parks, the lake, and it's a great base for walks or the surrounding areas. The staff team couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. The food was good and I enjoyed both a burger with a beer in the evening and a very hearty breakfast. All table service, which is a bonus . The room was excellent with one of the best hospitality trays I've seen , additional sweets, and the toiletries from The White Company. Very pleasant stay.

Great staff, so friendly and helpful. Dig friendly. Very much pub grub but great quality. If you are staying more than 2 nights, consider eating elsewhere on further nights. No parking at venue, but z as free 16.00 when other tourists have departed some on street parking available 1-3 min walk away. Long stay Car Park £12.20 for 24 hours. If you have an electric car, Booths supermarket is the place for you. Enjoy your stay. We did!!

Sat in for lunch. Located on the main street it commands a prime position, and whilst it seems clean and modern it seemed to lack warmth. Staff were on point offering a speedy service but the bar lacked a little atmosphere. Being where it is prices for food were premium. Only having a snack it would be wrong to comment on quality but it would need to be good when a sandwich costs £14. Generally I felt the menu cost was quite high for a 'pub'. Drinks seemed reasonable and my wife thought it was quite a nice setting. I just think look around off the main street you'll get better value. I can't quite accept fish and chips costing around £18+ whilst the average cost is £11 take away and around £16 in the average restaurant. Burgers and other dishes held similar mark ups. I do accept costs in Keswick might be high but there is the foot fall and feel there's a bit of exploitation.

We have just returned home after another excellent and enjoyable stay at The Royal Oak. We have stayed here quite a number of times with our dog and have just booked again for end of November and Easter next year we enjoy it so much! The rooms are spacious and cleaned to a high standard. We usually ask to stay in room 19 but have been in 14 and 2 in the past and all are great. Breakfast and evening meals are lovely with plenty of choice but not too many that you cant decide what to have. Steve, Tamasz and all the staff are all brilliant with nothing too much trouble but a special mention has to go to Maria who is amazing. She has the same cheery manner whether at breakfast or at the end of evening service and has so much energy. Our dog Minnie loves her and her pocket of treats! Looking forward to our next visit. See you all soon

This restaurant, pn the main square, was recommended and the best in Keswick, and it was! We had slow roasted lamb shank with mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, gravey, and mint. It was tender and very delicious! You must have reservations. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would go there again and have the same meal. Tell your friends about it.

Stayed here for 1 night with my partner and 2 year old son. The weather was terrible but was greeted with lovely staff, travel light if you have a young children as you have to carry your luggage up a few flights of stairs, after a little walk around Keswick we went back to our room then back down stairs for a lovely meal. The bedrooms are clean and tidy and the breakfarts are unreal ! I had a full English and it was lovey. The staff are great and was constantly entertaining our son, I would definitely go back to the Royal Oak

My parents stayed here on a recent family vacation and we all dined there together one evening. My steak pie was delicious, we also shared the baked cheese appetizer and fried Brie special which were both delightful. Sticky Toffee Pudding was shared for dessert and also top notch. The true gem of our meal however was our waitress, Kerys, who was cheerful and attentive throughout. I d go back and sit in her section anytime!

We ate here twice during our stay in Keswick, a convenient location with very good food, typical pub grub , but decent sized portions all cooked well. Went for a bit to eat whilst stopping in Keswick. Food was a pit pricey but delicious and filling, combined with the great atmosphere it was well worth the visit. Check before booking here, priority is business over service. My father who is very old made a booking by mistake, we immediately contacted The Royal Oak but were told advanced bookings are non-refundable regardless of the circumstances. We were looking to book once our plans were more firm but will not be booking here due to the poor service and lack of understanding.

The booking experience was so easy with the General Manager (Steve). Even when we passed off the premises they went out of their way to say hello (Daryl) We were sorry that we couldn t stay longer. We have already recommended the Royal Oak to everyone we met at the weekend and we will definitely be returning! 5*

Went for food here on a Saturday night. Menu is just classic pub food but quite expensive for it so we were expecting it to be great. I got the steak pie and chips. The food came within 5 minutes, not a good sign as we soon found out. The chips were literally just oven chips not homemade pub chips which I was gutted about and the pie again just looked like a shop bought pie which was so pale. I could have cooked this whole meal in my oven at home for a quarter of the price. Was not impressed. The staff were great though no criticism there

Absolutely the best food we ve had in a pub for as long as I can remember. Modern decor with a homely feel. I had the butcher s plate and every morsel was better than the last.. and it started out delicious! The Thwaites original ale was perfect with the meal.. strong enough to be a good ale, but just mellow enough to cut through the meaty flavours. It s so good, I m still not finished the meal, but wanted to review before I forget.

Lovely rustic, historic hotel in an excellent location right in the centre of Keswick. Lots of extra touches, such as a mini fridge with fresh milk, biscuits, sweets on the pillow, nice toiletries. Very tasty breakfast with lots of choice, cooked to order. The staff were friendly, helpful & hardworking. The only negative was the small room & lack of storage. This wasn t such a problem as we only stayed one night but any longer it would be a pain to have to live out of your bag/case. Overall though, an enjoyable stay.

My friend and I came here for dinner this evening after a recommendation and what a disappointment. I ordered the salt and pepper squid and it was like chewing on a thick rubber band. It was so bad that I spat it out. When the waitress came and asked how it was, I told her it was awful and she said wait a minute and let me speak to my colleague . Waited and waited, thinking they might offer me another starter, but they just brought the nain meal out, which was half a chicken and fries. They did give me gravy to go with the fries, which I appreciated, but the chicken was hard, dry and completely inedible. I left the whole thing. My friend said after tasting it god that is awful, tell them . They didnt even ask how it was when they took it away and id just given up at this point. Ordered a sticky toffee pudding for dessert, at my friends insistence, as I was starving and this was so lovely. Moist and very tasty. This is the two stars. But the most disappointing part of the whole evening was when they came with the bill and had charged us for the squid, even though I had complained about it. Truly shocking and terrible customer service. We ended up just leaving and getting a kebab on the way back to our hotel. This was the last night of our holiday and it was ruined by this meal

My partner got a signature dish, the seafood risotto, which was tasteless extremely disappointed that when the waiter came to take the plates away we weren t asked how tge food was? Maybe he was afraid if the answer, given that there was so much of it remaining on the plates .wouldn t come back again Food and drinks: Food was terrible

Food was okay but pasta was bland and could ve had more pesto and the pasta tasted overcooked and not salted. No offer of cheese or Parmesan. Service was poor. Ordered nibble, starters and mains but was all brought to the table at the same time so by the time we got to the mains they were cold and was going to order a bottle of wine but wasn t much point as didn t want to pay more when the service was such low quality. No one checked back on us how the meals were. We were done for ages before anyone cleared our plates and by that time we just wanted to leave and no longer wanted to have desert. No one can e to take payment and had to take the bill to the bar. Very disappointing overall

Amazing staff, brilliant food. But awful manager towards the staff. So I stayed here on the 27th of March for 4 nights. I cannot speak more highly of one of the staff members there one in-particular called Maria she was unbelievable. Every morning couldn t be more accomodating, so warming, friendly and welcoming. She is beyond a hard worker. She would accomodate us above and beyond for breakfast, and anything else. I seen her cleaning the rooms also during the day. Honestly by far one of the most genuine, honest, and hard working women I have witnessed she made our stay!!! Thank you so much Maria, you are incredible one of the managers (or assistant managers) his name is Thomas he is brilliant too! He was very welcoming, super friendly and very accomodating also. The food was brilliant and so was the staff, apart from my last day to which I was checking out and i witnessed and heard a manager/assistant manager (not Thomas) shouting at Maria in the front bar. To which the front door to the hotel was closed. The way he spoke to her was disgusting. I never believe in leaving a negative review, but this was beyond disgraceful the way he spoke to Maria. He was claiming that this is a billion pound business and that she isn t taking it serious, and it isn t a small restaurant ran like in her home town the comments went on. I was beyond shocked and mortified to know that a manager believes it is acceptable to talk to a member of staff this way. Let alone a member of staff, who we genuinely couldn t fault and was by far one of the most talented staff members in the Royal Oak. This happened on the last day of my trip, minus that the location was brilliant, food brilliant, and staff incredible Maria and Thomas especially! But this really put a damper on my trip whilst checking out, to know that staff members who went above and beyond are under appreciated. Rooms: Very clean Safety: Very safe! Food and drinks: Brilliant food & drinks

I am afraid we both had a bad food experience tonight in the restaurant. My wife was nearly sick when we got back home after eating her Caesar salad. My classic burger was not pure beef but like from a supermarket packet of lowish quality. Poor food standards experience but the service was very good. PS. Thanks for your reply below but the burger tasted very processed, however it was prepared in the restaurant kitchen. The quality content of the beef could have been better.

Stayed here for the first time. The room was nice but very small and cramped. The shelf in the bathroom was coming away from the wall as was the toilet roll holder. The staff were a little chaotic, I think they were understaffed as they seemed to be doing everything which unfortunately wasnt really up to speed. The room wasnt made up one day, we had to ask for teabags and biscuits as they hadnt been replenished. The breakfast was good but asking for sauce or toast took ages and I had almost finished by the time the sauce came. All in all, I did enjoy my stay here and would stay again maybe with an upgrade to the room. They really need to resolve the staffing issues though as it is apparent the limited staff they have cant really keep up with demand although they actually work their socks off.

Popped in for a couple of expresso martinis they obviously dont know how to do them. The lady serving was lovely and tried to recover the original cocktails which were undrinkable like cold weak coffee and very watery 2nd time round better but again very watery we left ours sadly. Tables very sticky guy next to us also trying to clean tables and ended up putting serviettes all over his side of table as his elbows kept sticking to table. Really need to work on cocktails or take off menu and also clean tables Walkability: Only 5 mins walk from lake derwentwater and right in centre of town

I cant compliment enough on their service and attention to detail. We were a party of five humans and seven dogs, all a bit windswept and damp. We were ushered to a big table by the fire and orders taken. It was before food service, so we had a hot drinks order. I got huge envy at the amazing hot chocolate someone else had, and I was promptly brought a stick of toasted marshmallows! Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome.

I can t comment on rooms as I didn t stay here. I m sure they re lovely. Food and drinks: Small portions for inflated prices. Genuinely convinced I had mistakenly been given a child s portion. I had not. Plate was padded out with gravy in a cute little pan, which was a nice touch. 15 quid for a squirt of sausage and a spoon of mash. No veg given. Not acceptable. Guests who you claim to be happy are either children or too polite. I m 6 2 just been for 14 mile walk in the rain, a hearty meal was expected in a cosy Keswick pub, ultimately a visit to the chip shop required.

We returned again to eat at the Royal Oak after enjoying a meal on our last visit. We were not disappointed as the food and service were as fantastic as before. We ordered some nibbles to start, followed by a steak pie, the tomahawk pork steak and the large fish&chips. The meals were cooked perfectly and the staff were really friendly and attentive which made our meal a really enjoyable experience. We just about had space for a pudding which was also really tasty. Overall, a really lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food. We will be back again on our next visit in February.

Beautiful, character Inn, great central location. Excellent customer service and facilities. The room was lovely and spacious but lacked a little in the details. Being an old Inn, the noise travels around easily (into the night an from early morning) The shower needs an upgrade and grout/paint re-doing. For over £200 for one night the details really matter. Still had a great night away and would stay again. Nearby activities: Self launched our paddle boards on Bassenthwaite lake, beautiful and serene! Layby parking just past the sailing club. Food and drinks: Couldnt recommend the Felpack Kitchen enough! Top quality, fabulous service and great value.

Fantastic place and the perfect location. Not great if you struggle with stairs, bear in mind its an old building so make allowances for this. Check in was easy and residents have a separate door to enter. The house keeping staff which quite a few are from the EU are fantastic and a credit to the business. One of the best breakfast we have had. Parking wasnt as big an issue as we first thought and is a short walk away. We would definitely return. Rooms: All the rooms are different, ours was on the front and ok. unfortunately council dustbin men did seem intent on waking everyone up in the area. Not the hotels fault tough. Nearby activities: Your in the lakes Safety: No issues Walkability: Restricted access Food and drinks: Perfect Breakfast Noteworthy details: Nothing to say here all as it should be.

We were surprised at the size of our room, especially as wed paid for a step up from the standard size. Otherwise, the staff are amazing. One of the ladies (shortish dark hair and glasses, we didnt get her name, unfortunately) bends over backwards for you and works tirelessly. Decor throughout is brilliant, quirky, local, and tasteful. But the absolute USP is the breakfast, we have to say that its the absolute best of any B&B weve stayed in. Location is excellent, 15 minutes walk to Derwentwater lake, and slap bang in the middle of town with paid parking nearby. Would definitely recommend, but research your room size properly.

Popped in for a drink. Was one of the best mojitos I have had in a while! Sadly the attitude of the bar tender that afternoon was shockingly bad. Claimed we never ordered a beer after we said it was missing from our order, brought it over to the table stating I know why it was missing from your order, you never ordered it in the first place. And walked away? Made comments to colleagues and stared at us. Felt uncomfortable and left. Make trips to keswick every year, and will know to avoid.

Atrocious. Waited 35 mins after being allowed to find our table and have some menus thrown at the table. No drinks offered. Waiting staff trying to avoid eye contact. Decided to leave after being ignored for 35 mins. No one noticed and waited further 5 mins to speak to manager to advise of poor service. She agreed, but did not offer any recompense to stay and the whole place reeked of understaffing and cant be bothered/just get through my shift attitude. This was our first visit as a family and will be the last. Avoid- as so many other better places to eat in Keswick. Go to the Thai down the road instead for example. This place is an utter shambles and the owner should take note.

Stayed for a couple of nights this weeks. The staff were super friendly and the rooms lovely and clean. The breakfast was bang on and plenty of choice. I would definately recommend and stay again. Things worth a note. There is is no milk for the tea/coffee in the rooms. I am sure they would give you some if you ask but last thing you want to have to do once you have got to your room. The second is the showers take a while to warm up. I think this is just because of long pipe runs. Again not a problem but run the shower for a couple of minutes before jumping it. Amazing shower once warmed up though The location is dead centre of Keswick so plenty of choices for food and drink nearby. I choose the Dog and Gun almost opposite which was top notch. There is no parking included but plenty of pay and display car parks nearby. Just build into your cost as about £11 a day.

Stopped in for Lunch as we wandered around Keswick. My wife and I, plus our 2, four legged companions were given a warm welcome by a lovely waitress (didnt catch her name, but it was her first day 1/11/23), and were given a choice of a host of cosy and welcoming looking tables. Once sat, the waitress was once again on hand to take our drinks and food order, and despite it being her first shift, she was clearly well versed in the menu and how The Royal Oak operates. Lunch promptly arrived, my wife choosing a Caesar Salad with a side of Fries (which was a big bowl full for the price), and I went with the Pie and Mash. Both meals were excellent and polished off without hesitation, though if I were to be slightly picky, the pastry of my pie, other than the lid, was a bit soggy (Paul Hollywood would not have approved ) All in all, a lovely, dog friendly find, and just under £50 for the two of us for lunch with drinks
