47 Main St, Keswick CA12 5DS, United Kingdom
A traditional Lakeland tavern serving a large range of cask beers, lagers, ciders and wine with authentic home cooked pub food
Great Pub atmosphere. People seem to chat to strangers in here. Dog friendly. Good home cooked food plus specials board. Not the best beer selection but the food makes up for that. Recommend
It was busy Saturdays lunch time. When we entered the pub, no waiter paid any attention to us. We wanted to know if there was a free table. One table was free. We ordered fish and chips. Once ordered at the bar not long to wait until cooked. The portions were too huge. One portion would be enough for two. The food was very delicious! The mushy peas was very tasty. But I'm not sure if would like to come again.
Probably the best pub in Keswick. It always seems to be busy. The staff are fantastic. We managed to grab a table as someone was leaving, then asked another table to grab an additional chair to fit the 5 of us. The staff noticed this and managed to fit us on a comfier table near the back (as we didn't have a dog with us) We all ordered our meals - sausage and mash, mac and cheese, lasagna and something else. Everything was fantastic. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious. The side salads with the meals were actual salads and not just a few leaves. We will definitely be back next time were in the area.
Up in Keswick for the day, we arrived hungry. From the outside we were not 100% sure that this pub even did food much (there was a menu outside and a faded board. However inside it was clear most folk were eating and the food looked good! Good selection of well kept ales and the food was huge in portions and great on quality. We will definitely go back next time in Keswick and you can’t praise a place higher than that! Loved it.
This genuine old English pub lived up to it's recommendation. Fab meal Need to order from Bar. Trout was delicious. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
One of many pubs visited in our stay in Keswick. Visited it 3 times as we were running out of options and had a dog. Also the town centre was very busy. It's find your own table. No booking as constant stream of customers. Dogs only allowed on non-carpeted areas. Makes it awkward when people just sitting drinking on the other tables and you want to eat. Also the carpet was filthy so don't know why dogs weren't allowed everywhere. In my opinion you are either dog friendly or not. Had a burger. Was ok. Asked for well done but was not as well done as I liked. But ok. Had a salmon dish with crushed potato and veg. From the specials board and partner said it was the best meal they'd had during our two week stay Had steak and ale pie. Again full of steak pieces and reasonably tasty. Can't complain. Had a fillet steak. Asked for it to be well done. Well it came out so dry and burnt on the edges it was disgusting. A good chef can cook a steak well done without burning or drying it out. Served in a skillet floating in something. Not quite sure. Terrible for the price. Sea bass was in the specials board and partner had it and said it was beautiful. Looked really nice too. Good portion of sea bass too. Everything had to be ordered at bar including drinks and meals Service ok. No real smiles or interaction. Heard someone mention the leek and potato soup was too spicy for them and the lady with the blonde hair by the bar couldn't care less and treated the woman with complete disdain. Very unprofessional. In the warm weather week and other visits plagued by flies. Not v appealing and a real nuisance as doors were left open. Would I go back. No. But sort of one of the best of a bad bunch in Keswick town centre really.
Popped in after a hike. Spacious inside, lots of tables, great menu choice (£15 ish) once ordered at the bar not long to wait until cooked (seemed longer at the bar!), I had chicken supreme, really tasty, great amount, friend had trout. Very impressed, def pop in another time - tucking in before thought to take a photo. Staff lovely too.
My wife and I had a day out in Keswick June 24 🌞🌞 and called into The Bank Tavern, in the centre of Keswick ,for a bite to eat and a drink, the food was fantastic with fast service, we both had a local beer that was truly magic 🍻, Both of us would really recommend this place for some lovely food, and you must try one of these local beers 👍😁
Great pub, great food, great service.
Food was really good not much atmosphere but quiet night
Great atmosphere
This must be the most overpriced meal Ive ever had. Ordered the hotpot at £17,95 expecting a hearty meal after a long days walking. It was a tiny bowl of gravy with around 6 small pieces of lamb , with a few slices of potatoe. A tiny bowl of cabbage on the side. Then £14 for 2 pints of lager just to rub the salt in the wound. Absolutely rip off , dont waste your money. Heard other people around us expressing their disgust in food and portion sizes. You have been warned. Wont be returning.
5* experience. Food was excellent, proper pub grub (great pie and mash!) with vegetarian options too. The service was what stood out to me as truly exceptional, attentive, and welcoming. All in all a wonderful experience, a variety of beers on tap and lovely atmosphere. Will be back! Vegetarian options: Multiple veggie options available
Lovely pub great food staff and atmosphere
Always great.
Great pub food. Quick service and brilliant cask ale choices.
Great pub with amazing food and good service.
The food was amazing Bar staff fabulous The lady to gave and collected our food quite rude, we tried to say how much we enjoyed the food nothing , did not even look at us, tried to ask her to tell the chef how good it was again nothing ,completely ignored.
Best lamb and mint pie Ive ever had. Great atmosphere. Fairly priced food and ale
Popped in for drink while out shopping in keswick..great little pub . Traditional with great friendly atmosphere. Toilets are pristine!
I don t usually believe in 5* reviews, but no complaints means 5*, and I have none. 6 people ate, and we all loved our meals. My mother (the pickiest woman on the planet) loved her food and that speaks for itself. We all ordered from the specials; Slow Cooked Pork Belly, Chicken Pie, Cod Bites and Crispy Chilli Beef. They were all fantastic. Nice homely feel to the pub, music, good atmosphere and great staff. Class
Had a small meal with my wife, absolutely great value for money, staff friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the drinks on offer
Get pub very nice food and service was great especially the lovely Becky
One of the only places serving food in town on a Sunday evening and it was absolutely lovely! Great food, really friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere. Really good, traditional pub. Dog friendly too
Great pub. Authentic!
Lovely pub very busy even in the winter months. Staff are the best really friendly. Dog friendly pub as well. Most are dog friendly round this area. Keswick is a wonderful little town. Hope to go back again very soon.
Loved the food best burger Ive had in ages wife and daughter had chicken supreme they both said it was lovely and the background music topped it off for me northern soul and Motown so if you dig great music and good food get in there!
Fabulous proper pub grub, especially the lamb and mint pie, delicious! Tables are on a first come first served basis, and can be very busy, but well worth the wait! Staff are very friendly and helpful too! Highly recommend
Great food and good service, will definitely be returning,
Amazing pub food, great selection of drinks
Not very pleasant staff and found it bizarre that I was refused a jacket potato with prawn Marie rose???? I asked if the prawn cocktail starter could be put on my jacket. NO, chef wont do prawns with a potatoe!!!???? So I had tuna on my jacket and it was quite nice, although not piping hot.
Expensive drinks, cost £5.50 more than the same drinks in Scotland the day before.
8 of us called in for food and drinks. Good service and staff seemed friendly enough. Food was tasty and enjoyed it. Dog friendly of course.
Popped in for lunch when it was pouring down with rain, food and drink was excellent, the dog was happy to be out of the rain and to top it all the music was brilliant. Northern soul for ever.
The food was lovely. Although I only had a tuna and cheese baguette it was the best one Ive ever had!
Nice quiet pub with good food and friendly service. TV screen so not full of football fans on match nights.
Popped in for a pint and to get out of the rain. A pleasant little pub in the heart of the town.
WEBSITE - SOCIAL MEDIA - NO FOOD SERVICE TIMES. SORT IT OUT.
Great food and beer but a little pricey!
Nice beer. Unwelcoming bar staff. Mind you he hasnt been the same since his fellow chuckle brother passed.
Best pub in Keswick dog friendly and the food excellent if there is one dish everyone needs to try its the lamb shoulder absolutely the best lamb you will ever have Wheelchair accessibility: There is a flat entrance and around the back there is a small beer garden with easy access and its all flat.
lovely friendly pub with a good atmosphere.had two meals here while staying in Keswick, both lovely. the feather blade of beef was especially enjoyed by my husband, he had it on both occasions. a good recommendation ashe is an ex butcher!
Beautiful lamb and mint pie
I ordered the trout fillets but unfortunately they had run out however they gave me sea bass instead which were very good. The Jennings beer I had was fairly mediocre. The staff and locals were friendly.
The fish and chips were exceptionally delightful. It was truly the best fish and chips Ive had in the UK! The batter was wonderfully crispy, and the fish was delightfully fluffy.
We called in and found a table and had an excellent meal. I had the lasagne, 2 had the sticky pork belly and one had the beef. All the meals were very tasty and everyone had clean plates when wed finished. The staff were very friendly and had a good laugh with us, which we liked.
Proper pub! Great food and service from the staff along with a great atmosphere
Great ale n food
We ve been in Keswick a week and really wanted to eat here. Finally tonight we got a table, you have to jump in peoples graves to get one! Well worth it. Hubby had the lamb pie and I had the special, mushroom risotto. Both fabulous! Fab service, food and atmosphere. Never spoken to so many neighbouring tables as we have here! Just a great place.
Lovely pub in the centre of Keswick
Had a very decent gammon on a sizzling platter, good pint of local beer too
Gd laule boozer with suntrap beer garden and gd food
After waiting for 10 minutes for the bartender to even notice me (had his back to me faffing around with the till) and none of the other bar/waiting staff even making eye contact I gave up and went elsewhere.
Its a tradition for me and my wife to try lamb whenever we visit the Lakes. And boy am I glad I found this place. They had a minted lamb shoulder special and it was amazing - beautiful soft lamb, lovely sweet and rich minted sauce, soft and crunchy vegetables. The size of it made me gasp and Im lucky I was hungry after a long walk. Thank you!
A lovely genuine English pub. Nice food, nice atmosphere.
The best Sunday lunch Ive had. Roast beef, excellent, and all the other meals looked great too. Well worth the money.
Food was lovely
Food excellent, steak and kidney pudding, good portions of perfect vegetables... Really good! Plus excellent range of beers.
What a gem! Beautiful pub, decorating historically with photos of old Keswick and rock climbers. The service is fast and efficient. There is a fantastic selection of dishes, so many to chose from. Food was cooked perfectly, I definitely recommend. The tiled areas are also dog friendly
Lovely pub food in this nice old ale house.
Quickly served , excellent food , friendly staff , reasonable prices , what more could you want , definately recommend
Very busy little pub, good service and nice food.
Gorgeous food, really quick and lovely service! Good portion sizes and lots of variety
Great food .staff helpful
Went for something to eat. Had the lamb shoulder, very good. Beer fine and well kept. Dogs allowed in the uncarpeted area.
Great beer in excellent condition, bar staff who know and love beer! Just what a beer lover needs.
The ribeye steak is horrible. Won t come back
brilliant pub !
Good selection of draught ales in a traditional pub.
First class choice of beers . Good menu .Sensitive helpful staff. Request options on menu . Freshly prepared fresh vegetables. . Good puddings great value. Wine selection good highly recommended overall . Dietary restrictions: I have an onion family allergic reaction which makes me ill. The staff checked ingredients and then gave me choices. Cannot fault the care they took. Thankyou
By far the best Pub in town. We been on a little Pub Crawl in Keswick because of the rain today. Out of the 5(well 6 if you count in the one that only accepted card and no cash) the ambience was the best. We had 3 drinks here. Cant say anything about food, because we arrived here past 9pm and couldnt eat anything here. But the menu looked tempting.
On a rainy evening, we went to the Bank Tavern on a whim and were so happy we did! The minted lamb shoulder was superb, and the boeuf bourguignon was a very close second. Prices were very reasonable, service was excellent and the beer selection was admirable. This would definitely be worth a return visit.
Came in on a busy Sunday. No word from any staff. Had a beef and lamb roast for £18 each. More fat than meat on both plates. Couldn t cut broccoli because it was raw and so was the rest of the veg. Pulled a massive cinnamon stick out of my solid red cabbage. Absolutely terrible. Had to go and eat elsewhere because we had to leave so much of the food.
Had the Sunday roast
Been here two days running on a three night break. First day I had gammon and my partner had chicken supreme and we both really enjoyed. Second day I did have my heart set on having the lamb shoulder, unfortunately its so good and popular they had sold out! We decided on the ribeye, which was absolutely delicious. All staff were excellent EXCEPT for the older guy who maybe the boss. He seemed more concerned about people coming in to use toilets and not buying anything, but even though hed had 150 quid at least out of us, his customer skills were atrocious, needs to go on numerous courses! What an ignorant man.
Great pub . Plans changed thanks to the rain so we we asked a local shop assistant for recommendations. This was the first place and it does present well from the exterior . And there was literally a stream of people heading in . Its quite small ,with low ceilings and very traditional. Food is fabulous, good portions, average price and theres a wide range on the menu and special boards on the wall menus . Atmosphere is good ,it was busy but we still had space enough. Only one point negative was the lady taking food and drink orders at the bar was miserable, no conversation,no smile or any kind of interaction other than to take the order and direct the card machine my way. Unfortunately not even a thank you. Serving staff were great and it was busy but theres no excuse for rude sullen staff . Having said that, I would definitely recommend this place . Theres alot of choice in Keswick so theyre doing it right and we will definitely return Vegetarian options: There was vegetarian options Parking: Parking in town centre Wheelchair accessibility: My husband has a mobility scooter and we had no issues at all
Great choice of beers. Sunday roast was huge! Needed a second tummy really, but managed (just).
Wonderful food very friendly staff loved our vist great value for money
Stopped in just after the pub opened. Ordered a pint of amber bitter, lad serving me never said a single word, no hello, no thank you, nothing, really strange. Didnt really taste the first mouthful but the second swig i got a strange taste, i had a smell and another taste, tasted as though the lines had just been cleaned and not thoroughly flushed. Left 3/4 of the pint and left. Disgraceful service and dangerous cellar management.
Bank Tavern is always busy, but tables become free quite quickly. The lamb moussaka and pie were delicious. You get a really good choice of food. Definitely worth a visit. Food
Only had a drink good pint
The service here was lovely! The food was okay, we had the lamb and it was a huge portion, enough for 2 of us which was great!
Food was lovely, well presented, generous portions. The option to eat outside on a sunny day was much appreciated.
Excellent service and good food. Had the Lamb & Mint and Chocolate Brownie(slightly warmed) & Vanilla ice cream made with white vanilla-perfect textile to go with the brownie. Hospitality from all staff was very welcoming!
Dropped in for evening meal, nice selection on menu and specials. The food, both our meals was excellent and good portions. Good selection of ales and gins to sample. Staff very helpful and polite. Would definitely eat here again. The oven baked salmon and the grilled gammon were both excellent, Parking: Cash, card or app 2hrs £3.75, Kid-friendliness: Kids in pub were fine Wheelchair accessibility: Didnt notice any step and ramps disabled to toilet
Highly recommend for a quick bite to eat during the day. We had baguettes, the bread was beyond gorgeous - toasted and so soft in the middle. Would love to see more options for baguette - I had the Cumberland sausage, gravy and onion ring baguette but since it was a beautifully warm day if I had the option Id have picked something lighter like chicken salad if it was available. Staff were friendly and attentive, the barmaid overheard my partner mention what he wanted to drink whilst she was serving another customer then segwayed into chatting with us. Will definitely be returning on our next trip too Keswick!
Delicious Food : 5/5
Very busy pub in the evening. Its very popular for dinner. Recommended.
Veneers big meal well worth the money
Getting a table is down to luck its so popular you can struggle to get a table, once you do the food and service is good.
Really good pub menu. The pan fried trout was delicious Its a small busy pub but has a good atmosphere.
Good food and beer
Very good service from start to finish . From the bar to staff bringing our food . Food was lovely very hot
Fabulous - our pub of choice in Keswick. Just have the lamb shoulder, some beer or wine and be done. No more needs to be said.
Amazing pub with fantastic food. Beef lasagne my favourite. Highly recommend if you find a table.
Great beer food and atmosphere
Service and food were great
Fantastic real ale, & great food & staff.
Very friendly people
Absolutely banging food, six of us piled in quite late in the evening after a day of mountain climbing, quickly cleared us a table and served us nice and quickly, food was top notch, particularly the pies, cheers The Bank Tavern
Very busy, but was bank holiday weekend.
lovely pub that allows dogs in. Good selection of food and ales/ cider. Has outside seating to the rear. Called in today and they had a lovely fire going.
Great food, prompt service .. felt a little squashed in with a couple of tables too many....but they were all full so why not
On the expensive side but in a good location with good quality food & drink.
Great food, friendly staff,good tunes
Great pub after a long walk round Derwent..Best pint of wainwrights ever..Milo was knackered..
Alway called in here, but they are way over priced! I had a pint in the wainwright £4.50, had one in the dog £5.25 one in here !!!!£6.20!! And the blonde behind the bar was telling customers that they were the cheapest!
Good selection of Ale. Food was tasty and reasonable price.
I have been here a few times. A good real ale destination. On this visit a customer accused Ic and Flic of being Gordon the Gopher...luckily the barman knew Flat Eric and put them straight. We had an excellent pint each of Great Corby Blonde. Good pub and like most in the area it does lots of pub food. Boss liked the wine.
Fantastic choice of hot food and Sunday roast is the best weve ever had...been back twice more and had other food again excellent..the staff were amazing..Great atmosphere and brilliant friendly service. Just got back from this place and had our last meal before going home again excellent food and staff Many Thanks Mike lane Vegetarian options: Big choice Dietary restrictions: Plenty of options
Managed to get a table on a very busy day. Didnt wait long for our food and it was great. Usual large portions and well cooked. Keep up the good work.
Nice pub, friendly staff, ordered food for 4 people. Sandwich s were great and enjoyed by the party. Jacket potato was a little hard in side. Would recommend and would return.
Lovely cosy pub with a nice vibe and friendly staff. We didn t eat but others seemed happy with their food and there was some vegan options on the menu
Great food. Steak pie was delicious. Went well with a pint of Wainwright.
Very friendly and delicios food
Didnt eat here but the beer was good and well priced
Thank you so much to the Bar Lady who organised a taxi for us when nothing else was available. She is life saver! Great pub!
Thank you for a lovely meal

Absolutely the best food in keswick & very reasonably priced
Didnt eat so cant rate food, but this pub has a wide selection of beers and a great atmosphere. Perfect place for a pint with your mates.
Love this pub, been here a lot when in Keswick
Fantastic Sunday lunch friendly staff and partly dog free! We will be back!
Really nice little pub great value food and drinks highly recommended
We visited on Boxing day and found a warm welcome. Busy but run efficiently by a friendly staff. We enjoyed the food which was delivered to our table in a few minutes. They also had clean and functional toilets, with both hand driers and paper towels. Recommended whilst you visit Keswick.
Friendly efficient staff, well kept beer, good food
Popped in here after the original place we d planned to go was full, amazing food and lovely staff! Food came so quickly (we were in at around 8:25pm so we figured it may be slower service) nothing was too much for the ladies serving and behind the bar, so welcoming 100% recommend!
Cosy little place, very busy n packed. Good beer though nice chatty atmosphere, friendly customers.
Very pleasant comfortable and Relaxed atmosphere.
Really quaint little country pub. Good atmosphere and good food. Loads of variety of drink on tap. Locals serving, recommended to everyone.
Went here on Sunday, meal for 3. Literally the worst steak I have ever had in my life, I ve never eaten steak with no flavour! Was burnt hot and clearly microwaved. Partners pie was awful and the burger just slop! Avoid this place if you want a nice meal! Over priced rubbish
Nice pub, great food.
Im glad to see that this excellent establishment hasnt changed too much after the takeover of Jennings. Still serving great pub food and a selection of good ales. Cant say the same for some of their competitors in Keswick.
Friendly local pub . Good pub food Food
Very good menu choice and huge portions. A doggy bag is offered to take the rest away.
Absolutely brilliant Great British pub and restaurant. Staff very attentive and welcoming . Great selection of beers etc and the food is just fantastic. Highly , highly recommended Food
A good pub with a good range of beers
Excellent pub on the high street. Great selection of Cask Ales, lagers, ciders & other alcoholic drinks. Service was excellent & the lady in charge ran the place like an army major (compliment). She knew which table number people were sat at & ran the evening like a military operation. Food was top class & very reasonably priced. Fully recommend this place. Kid-friendliness: Children welcome until 8pm
Nice food, cask beer, lovely cosy atmosphere.
Lovely meal on a Saturday lunchtime. You cant book ahead and on a Saturday lunchtime it gets full so dont leave it too late to arrive! The food was delicious. We had the steak pie, Cumberland sausage and chilli con carne. All good sized portions, very tasty and served with much better veg than the usual Pub fare. Good choice of beer too. Lots of tables but comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Recommended. The menu to download on website is out of date but a recent one has been uploaded 8 months ago in a review so best to look there.
Good atmosphere. Good beer. Good food. Just good
Perfect post hiking grub, served pretty quickly and definitely hit the spot!
Gorgeous food, well priced with varied menu choices. Nice drinks and a good atmosphere. Loved it!
Great pub and grub
Traditional pub, didnt eat here but the food that we saw looked good.
Very cosy pub. Ciders on tap were lovely. Will be back to try some of the food as the menu was great and the food looked delicious! Staff were very friendly.
Excellent food and ale
Always a good selection of food, especially from the specials menu.
Fantastic food, atmosphere and service
Warm and friendly place to come.
Good boozer right in centre of Keswick
Thankfully this place hasnt changed a bit since last year. Its still a traditional pub that serves great food and everyone is friendly.
Great place for food and drinks, we had lunch. The dog loved it too
I highly recommend the steak pie :)
Traditional pub with comfortable environment plus dog friendly. Good selection of food but didnt eat here. Just stopped for a drink
Really cozy pub with a great atmosphere. We didnt have any food but from what we seen it looked really nice!
fantastic food in here and also have a new chef, we had an early christmas dinner the turkey dinner was presented beutifully and tasted fantastic as did the beef my wife had, i had gammin steak 2 nights later came on a hot sizzling plate, very nice and all 3 meals priced around £15
Had roast beef with Yorkshire pudding for Sunday lunch. All I can say is WOW. What a plate full. Lovely grub.
Ate here twice over the last few days whilst staying in Keswick. Had a tuna melt baguette with chips and salad for lunch which was lovely. Had the lamb mint shoulder with mash and veg for an evening meal, lovely tender meat and creamy mash. Couldnt finish all the meal despite it being fab as was too much for me.
Brilliant thanks
