I have always used this pub ,today was served by Tom and Tony 2 cheeky characters.😁 Always pleasant ,smiling and happy to give you a minute to chat and have a laugh. All the staff at the Lion are welcoming and helpful making sure you get the best service. Nice relaxed atmosphere, great drinks quality making sure I never go dehydrated. 😁 If your in Keswick make sure you give the pub a visit.
Ordered a fish ciabatta and chicken sweet chilli ciabatta waited for over 45 mins and had to ask where our food was. We were told it was given yo another table! We had to wait another 20-30 mins for our food, which was VERY disappointing. Finsj fingers over done on a bedof rocket from which I got a piece of plastic wrapping in my first mouthful. There was no sweet chilli sauce on the chicken. In fact, it looked like packet chicken from the supermarket... totally tasteless. Thank you to the barman for a refund on our glass of wine each and being polite. However, our special day out was ruined by the meal and your mistake of sending it to the wrong table. By the way, the photos look much better than they tasted.
We popped in to watch the football on Saturday afternoon. It was a great place to watch at first with a good selection of TVs to choose from and a nice chilled out atmosphere. After about 15 minutes a group came in and the atmosphere changed - it was definitely raucous and extremely loud. I'm sure it's not normally like that but it did mean we had to leave at half time and go elsewhere as I couldn't cope with the level of noise. Staff were very busy when the big group arrived but stayed friendly and tried to serve everyone as quickly as possible. I'd still go there again to watch football in Keswick.
Went to watch the match on Sunday and grab something to eat as well. Staff were friendly, food was good and came quick. Beer was smashing. I had the Ullswater Blonde and it was in my limited opinion great. If we didn’t have to be somewhere else I would have stayed for a few more,
We went to watch a football match and due to torrential rain outside, the pub was heaving. No fault of the pub and we managed to get a seat. We didn't have any food, but it did look lovely. Great location in the centre of Keswick, as well as being dog friendly.
Went in for much later than planned Sunday lunch after being let down by a booked reservation. Service was friendly with easy conversation; drinks were perfect. The two beef roasts and chocolate brownie were just what we needed after a long day walking. Lots of food, tasted great and value for money. The Lion may not have initially been our first choice but certainly will be from now on.
We stumbled upon this place after Wetherspoons weren't serving food and needed to find somewhere to feed 4 kids! We walked up the main street and liked the look of the menu, so we decided to give it a try. There were lots of different things to choose from on the main menu, and we ordered drinks and food at the bar. Food came within around 15-20 minutes and we all enjoyed what we had. A portion of chips were missing but this was quickly sorted when I spoke to a member of staff. It was fairly reasonably priced for Keswick at just under £100 for 6 of us; all having a main meal and a drink. We'd definitely go back if we were in Keswick! 😁
Food was good and decent portion sizes for the price! They stop serving food between 3:30pm and 4:30pm just for awareness. Good selection of food and drinks, plenty of seating and options! Lots of TVs showing the sports so if you're looking for that this would be a good place for you. Would recommend if you want to sit and relax, enjoy reasonably priced food and drink.
Revisited this pub, 12 months on, standards have slightly slipped, had to wait a bit for the food. I had the Sunday lunch again, beef a bit tough, portion size reduction, we also tried the Hunters chicken, chips and peas, nothing special. Maybe change of staff but not as good as last time
Went for lunch with a customer of mine, served by Tony & Tom, very professional service good food and really nice homely feel to the pub, well done lads
The chefs Harry and Dainton are a true credit to the company. Brilliant food and beers
Food and drinks: Reasonably priced food. Good Menu. All in all a nice place to eat and enjoy drinks. Sport on TV. Service
Its just a nice keswick boozer..great food and good to watch sports
Just had drinks good service friendly staff
Nice local pub in the middle of the town. Live sports is a plus. Nice and friendly staff and good food is all you need. Recommended. Food and drinks: Nice good and quick service.
We will definitely be making a return visit, next time that were in Keswick Food and drinks: Excellent pub, excellent food, fast service, friendly staff, and the added bonus of dogs being allowed in too Service : 5/5 |
Nice atmosphere good meals allows dogs in lovely staff.
Its a pub, sells drinks and provides entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less. Gets busy when youd expect.
Very good a d friendly staff
Excellent pub grub - quick service (despite it being August bank holiday weekend) and really tasty pie at a very good price for central Keswick
We came for dinner here on a very busy bank holiday weekend. Even though the pub was packed we had great service and amazing food! Portion sizes where also big enough to feed two hungry runners!
Nice enough pub in Keswick. We just walked in for a drink after visiting the cinema.
One of the better pubs in Keswick, drinks can be a little pricey but overall a great bar which is also dog friendly.
Decent pub - food is okay. Average prices for pub food. A few veggie options.
Very friendly staff. Good food. Very reasonable prices
Great food
Terribly bad food. Nice people.
Popped in today for lunch, we shared some small plates and our son had burger, the two lads working were chatty but efficient, food is reasonably priced and really tasty, especially the shawarma tacos but we enjoyed everything we had,
Used the pub - very good Food and drinks: Good range of drinks and pub food Service : 5/5 |
I think this pub has a sense of reliance on its location ( a lot of foot traffic passing the door ). Not sure we will be racing back . On the plus side the cheapest fish and chips I have seen for a long while. Service
Food was lovely
Expensive, but not compared to rest of town center pubs
Friendly staff and great choice of food and drinks
Brilliant food, great staff, mixed grill delicious, apart from the wifes lol, wife had lasagne, great
Friendly pub with good food
Very nice pub, good beer, great atmosphere.
Great atmosphere Great location. Friendly staff. Service
Visited this pub twice, two days in a row. Friendly staff, good food with vegan options. Certainly recommend Service : 5/5
Lovely experience, fantastic place to take your dog and kids, staff were fantastic and food was lovely, central pub on the highstreet
Good food with good friendly service. Food and drinks: Good choice of food at reasonable prices Rooms : 5/5 |
Pints didnt taste quite right but atmosphere was great
Went here on a Saturday night as there was music on would recommend to go early ISH to get a good seat in saying that never waited to be served pub clean atmosphere brilliant nothing but good thing to say will definitely be back thank you all very much
Visited a couple of times as part of the weekend here. Nice selection of drinks, a good number of large TVs to watch the sport) and a good number of seats. Seating is nicely cool (especially whilst its been pretty hot here lately). I didnt eat, but there is a menu for pub classics and what I did see come out of the kitchen looked great.
Good food, very good service. Would be better if the TVs were turned off - too loud and distracting in my humble (but others will disagree).
Was not impressed with the food even tho the the food has been highly rated, pie was listed as award winning pie, should of been listed award winning disappointment. Pie was bland and fatty, the gravy in the pie had absolutely no tast at all, the frozen chips where the bast part and actually had flavour but also the broccoli was over cooked. I did also see other customers not able to finish there food off, Other then the food being a a joke the staff and pub its self it spot on.
Found this little gem last weekend. The staff were all so lovey and made my friend and I aware that there could be a bit of a delay due to a large table order before us. The food was amazing but unfortunately, there was something missed off our order. It was rectified straight away, alongside desserts on the house - nothing seemed to be too much trouble and we were more than happy to wait. We also had dogs with us and we have been to a number of other pubs where dogs are looked at as an inconvenience but here, they were treated like royalty, which was a nice change! When I am back over in Keswick, it will definitely be the place for a lunch stop again!
Very good food. Very nice staff. The pub has a lot of charm.
Lovely staff, great cider selection, best live band ever
On holiday with 2 dogs Saw the big sign outside DOG FREINDLY Found a seat dogs are well behaved but can be noisy just whining nothing else Went to order drinks and was told rudely to SHUT DOG UP OR GET OUT This is in Keswick where dogs can go in shops restaurants bars but not this one. So went to a more friendly bar which is bar behind
Had a lovely meal here. Everyone enjoyed their food. Highly recommended.
Lovely pub staff very friendly nice pint of madri,,, pub was warm and cosy,, we went back next day
Disappointed our restaurant booking was cancelled. It was booked a week in advance, but I received an email today to say it was cancelled with no reason given. Im now having difficulty finding availability elsewhere for 7 people on a Friday night with only 2 days to go.
Walkability: Central Rooms
Went for drinks and snacks! Had a lovely time and they have such kind and helpful staff!
Food and drinks: Really friendly welcome, good range of ales and was invited to sample a couple before I chose one. Food was excellent as was the service. Service
The bar is always busy but we are always able to find somewhere to sit. The bar service is great. There is a good selection of beers.
Had a fantastic night in the Golden Lion in Keswick for my 50th Birthday!! Superb atmosphre, live music by Sara was fabulous, the food was great and the staff & service are just brilliant!!! Dog friendly as well, and sport if thats what you want. Highly advise if in Keswick, get to the Golden Lion
If youre visiting Keswick this is the best place around with a fantastic choice of food and drink. The whole team are amazing and make you and your four legged friends feel very welcomed. The service is impeccable and if your looking to be entertained in an evening they host some fantastic singers/musicians. We spent last night there celebrating my partners 50th birthday and they went above and beyond to ensure we all had a wonderful evening. It is evident that the team strive for excellence and this is definitely achieved! Special shout out to Dylan as we couldnt have pulled off the few surprises we had in store without him! Pop in and I assure you that you will not be disappointed!
We found this pub on our first night in Keswick. What a gem. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and very organised. Tables were cleared promptly and nothing was too much trouble. The food we ordered was, not only reasonably priced, but it was excellent. Beautifully cooked meat and fish with crispy but wonderfully fluffy chips. We were impressed. So much so we ate there every night for three nights and tried six different dishes between us. All were superb. I would highly recommend the Golden Lion. We will definitely be back. Food and drinks: The food and drinks were very good value for money and the chef was fantastic as all the food was excellent and the staff were superb.
Right in the centre of town, loads of choice to drink. Nice pub
Staff were very friendly and accommodating, food was very good I had chichen and ham pie it was yummy my parner had the Steak pie also very good. Reasonably priced for the quality. Toilets very clean, would highly recommend
Fantastic friendly place in a superb location Brilliant venue for live sports Good selection of drinks also available Service : 5/5
Great customer service and Friendly staff, service was very good, happy with the experience. Would go again., definitely a recommendation.
Absolutely love this pub great atmosphere lovely decor and friendly staff right on the square
First time in this pub. This pub is deceptively large. It goes back really far. Toilets nice and clean and friendly locals. Great pub with sport on TV.
Great food, highly recommended
Great food! Friendly staff. Amazing service by all the staff. Our puppy was treated with a treat and a bowl of water! They also have an amazing menu for people and dogs! Can t wait to return to this fantastic pub!
Becoming my go to place in Keswick. Good beer, good food, and the service is fast and friendly.
Friendly welcome. Great Yard Bird on tap
Great food and drinks. Warm and good atmosphere.
Best bar in Keswick by miles. The service is great, atmosphere is friendly to all and the beer and food are out of this world. The landlord, Dylan, was really friendly, very knowledgeable and has a lovely smile!
Lovely pub in keswick. Great friendly staff for 2 nights. Food also lush. I will be back next time
Excellent meals after a lovely days hike service was great too well worth a visit Food and drinks: Food was great same cost as most pubs in Keswick Also dog friendly
Reasonable priced drinks! Didnt have a meal. Dog friendly. Not sure about the environment or target customer. From the outside looks like a traditional Inn but inside bit of a mish mash. Decorated like a bistro pub but has tv and slot machine.
Chosen dish , Chicken Katsu curry and chips ,both myself and my partner had the same dish which we both enjoyed very much . The pub was very busy ,Good food ,friendly staff and service . Good place to eat,dog friendly pub .
Had dinner here, reasonably priced for central Keswick and super tasty! Would stop by again
Small plates are rubbish don t bother can t speak for the rest of the menu
Visited for the first time during the Easter holidays and have to say it was great.. Good staff and lovely food. Dog friendly
Really friendly staff. Chicken and ham pie was lovely.
Stopped in for a family meal. Food was very nice and a good selection of ales
Great pub. The staff were amazing.
Nice enough pub with friendly staff but the food is a bit , lets say, uninspiring, the other half had a lasagne that had been nuked more than once in the microwave and had shrunk, died and surrendered
Great place to eat. Their pies are the best Ive ever tasted, and the service and staff are great. Went twice while having a short break and would go again. Highly recommended and dog friendly.
Brilliant pub within Keswick Town centre. Very much worth a visit for good Ale and great food. Fantastic service. Definitely going back soon.
Great rebranded pub, good makeover and decent prices
Amazing pub, really friendly staff, my favourite place to stop for a pint after a walk round the lakes. Good selection of beers, and food is delicious.
Lovely pub with well spaced out tables. Staff very friendly, efficient and professional. We had a Sunday roast which was lovely.
Dog friendly,tasty food,reasonable priced
Awesome place. Good location, very good prices, place has a lovely classy design and is very clean everywhere. The service is very professional, definitely 5 stars for them. Food also delicious and all with reasonable prices. Definitely recommend and will be coming back again
Decent pub, pleasant staff. Prices also okay for a touristy town.
Lovely food .
Hannah was great and patient with my idiots friends thank you for a great weekend of drinking
Nice boozer, friendly staff and good pint
No atmosphere, its changed so much since I started going there, I really loved it then
Fantastic food and atmosphere, will be back
I had the chicken ham pie, mash broccoli with gravy. I enjoyed it a lot, only criticism is gravy is not home made but still nice and its one of the cheapest pubs to eat in, in keswick. Real ales are nice too and reasonably priced, toilets clean and plenty of seating. Staff pleasant and cheerful. Would definitely come here again.
Very busy Friday evening in Keswick (19-5-23) but service was first class. Good beer friendly staff, good food. The waiter, Andy, could not have done more to make us feel welcome, finding us a table, promptly bringing a menu and taking our order. We will definitely be back !
Great place to enjoy a beer in keswick...
Just got home went in Saturday evening after a 2 month absence and the bar staff remembered what I drank, now that is service
Nice spacious pub in the market square (part of one of the larger chains) has a decent menu including vegetarian options. No complaints with food, pulled mushroom chilli, halloumi fries, katsu curry, decent portions and price . Quite busy when we called in (everywhere in Keswick is) but the saff were attentative and friendly, was a bit of a wait for food but the staff advised about this when ordering, overall the service, meal and drinks were good and there was no problem taking the dog in. Dont know if they have disabled toilets, if you need these facilities I suggest you ask the staff before you get settled (gents is up stairs).
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Very comfortable inside. Food delicious
Nice pub and staff with basic pub grub. Better quality food would improve the experience.
Decent pub grub, service was great and pleasant staff. Loved the mac n cheese, sharer plates were great.
A nice bar,we didnt have any food, the wine is pricey at £9:00 for a large glass , staff friendly
We had the Award winning pies, a beef and a chicken. I dont know who the judges were but they dont know what a pie should be. Good points, it was proper pie with pastry all round it. Bad points, pastry was thick and stodgy and it was hard to find any meat in it. Bit of undercooked broccoli and some tired looking mash.
Great lunch spot for a quick bite. Quick and friendly service & the Katsu Curry was amazing! Good price too - £30 for two meals and two soft drinks.
A great pub/ restaurant with a superb menu choice. They do starters, mains courses and desert. All food was served in good time, and food was excellent. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Very willing and helpful. We had a party of 8 people and we all enjoyed our time there very much. You will have to look at the menu and then go to the bar counter to order, but this is not any trouble at all. Over all excellent and we would go again.
Great staff!
Didnt stay here but food is brilliant and good pints, cant complain
Lovely staff
No baby change facilities at all, very disappointing for a family friendly chain. Good food but sadly wont be returning as changing a babys nappy on a dirty toilet floor is not necessary in todays world when there are so many other options of places to eat
We ate here but would not do so again. The food is not very good indeed the award winning beef and ale pie could only have won a vegan food award because it sure suffers from a massive lack of beef.
The Mrs and I went here last night for a lovely meal, staff are extremely friendly and the atmosphere was so comfortable, everyone is smiling and having a good time..the food was absolutely delicious and portion sizes are spot on!
Good little pub centre of keswick bit pricey for drinks
Lovely place to eat , the food is lovely & piping hot . The staff were polite & quick . My tum tum wanted food and this is the place it liked Service
£14.80 for a beer and glass of wine. Expensive
nice pub good beer very friendly peaple
Brilliant pub since change of ownership, staff vary friendly and great selection of food and drink. Was always a good pub but seating change is great.
Really not sure why other pubs are more popular and have queues.... but this one is perfectly alright and reasonable!
Right in the centre of town, busy pub, great atmosphere, large screen TVs, live singer, no queues at the bar, and really attentive bar staff the service was great, Ellie went over and above to help with the large choice of spirits on offer. Recommend a visit.
Friendly Staff and a good atmosphere. Family style pub. You can watch sports while you eat your lunch
Friendly staff. Rhyse and Niaomi were quick and attentive. Food was great thanks to the chefs Dainton and Harry. Lovely atmosphere in the pub.
Good beer, Nice place
We spent 3 evenings with lion team and the live bands were great too. Food and drinks: Great food and drinks Rooms : 5/5 |

Good freindly service brilliant team.Tom was helpfull with finding the right beers.
Excellent pies! Reasonably priced, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, not too noisy.
Beautiful food and very friendly service and dog friendly. Food and drinks: Weve ate here twice now and received excellent food both times Rooms : 5/5 |
Very busy for food but definitely worth the wait. Excellent food with friendly efficient staff. Good atmosphere and a great place to go if you have a dog. Food and drinks: Had the best gammon steak ever and delicious chips. Four of us ate here highly recommend chicken burgers, mac and cheese and gammon steak.
We were at the Lakes - Keswick for the day as a family of 7 for a special day as well as going out for food we came across this bar and straight away we went in and were made to feel welcome by the staff we then ordered our food from the menu which has a variety to choose from most of us went for the Sunday dinners a few had other things, all the food was really tasty and lovely, we then all had puddings which were equally amazing. I would definitely be coming back to this pub when I am next in Keswick as food was lovely and the staff were very welcoming, friendly at all times. Thanks Emma from Newcastle.
Good choice of real ale and a great menu, the staff are superb. Also has live sport.
Good food, and good service as well. Located in the centre of town. Food and drinks: Good food. Service : 5/5 |
Great pub in excellent location in the main square in the heart of Keswick. Great views of the square if you bag a seat by the window. Prices reasonable. Never had a meal but what we did see the food looked very appetising. Allways busey when we went in. Good atmosphere. Worth a visit
The waitor Ellie was a delight to be served by, she was lovely and chatty! Trey was lovely and friendly checking in and making conversation. Overall a lovely pub with amazing staff Walkability: Really easy to locate and was in the centre town Food and drinks: All were lovely although the small chip portion wad a bit small
Great live musical venue Food and drinks: Nice real ale Service : 5/5 |
Great pint and service
Large selection of draughts here, always busy, standard prices in the middle of town
Popular place but very friendly
We at here today for lunch. The pub inside is very nice and cosy with a great atmosphere and dog friendly. The staff were really friendly and attentive. Marked down as i felt the food was fairly bland and the portion sizes for the prices not justifiable. i.e A portion of chips has about 15 chips per portion.
Brilliant pub within Keswick Town centre. Very much worth a visit for a good drink and food. Fantastic service. Definitely revisiting.
Honestly the food slaps. Especially so for a pub. Had the katsu and the pulled mushroom for lunch. SPICES
Not very welcoming, and very expensive for a quick beer, even for keswick.
Great service and beer
A proper old pub
Disappointing Sunday Lunch Sunday 12/11/23 over a 45 min wait but the meal was very poor Veg selection I had Beef and Yorkshire Pudd One small piece of Brockley Clollyflour Peas Carrot several small pieces of Chopped up Potatoe Classed As Roast Potatoes. Other meal was same but Turkey which was really fatty.. this was over 40 somethng pounds for this meal. We will not return been better having a sarnie and a coffee else where.
Cracking pub in the middle of Keswick
Nice pub, like new decor! Dog friendly too Walkability: In town centre Service : 4/5 |
Went as a family with a 9 month old baby and the service was great, sorting us with a high chair! Food was brilliant, the pies are top class! Great location in middle of town. Highly recommend.
We went in on Friday night and there was a live singer, the place was heaving but we got served straight away. Great atmosphere.
Great food and atmosphere
Had a few drinks there with friends. Great live music and excellent atmosphere. Food and drinks: Good range of drinks. Didnt eat there. Service : 5/5 |
We followed the sound of music to the Golden Lion where we found a live band was playing. The pub was absolutely packed, we got served very quickly and after a while managed to get a seat the band was really good and the atmosphere was great. What a great end to our evening.
Great food. Good music. Lovely atmosphere
