A truly wonderful evening with friends made so very memorable by dinner and amazing service at the Ivy House near Keswick. I have to say, the food was stunning, accompanied by an extremely attentive and friendly team, this is a hidden gem and deserving of recognition. Really well done 👏
Very nice restaurant and service. The food was excellent.
Excellent service, lovely restaurant, delicious food. The steak was cooked to perfection. Easily catered for vegan and disabled members of the group. Wine was good. Altogether the best meal we had in the Lake District.
A fantastic place to eat, if you're in the area I would 100% recommend coming here. The food is delicious and the waiting staff are very attentive and polite. I would recommend the sticky toffee pudding, it is to die for. I will definitely be coming back on my next trip to the Lake District. One thing to note is the roads around are slightly hard to navigate but it's OK as long as you're driving slowly around the village.
The ambience of the restaurant was lovely but lacked a bit of atmosphere with only a couple of tables used midweek before Christmas. We had a lovely meal with dishes that you couldn't get elsewhere. I had a wonderful curried haddock, sweetcorn and potato chowder, and others had venison and juniper casserole, which they raved about for ages. Excellent cheese platter as well! Shames cider and beers weren't small brewery or local
The food tasted great and was well presented - our steak mains were one of the best we've had. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We will return - highly reccomend!
Had a wonderful evening meal with family. Small dining area with limited tables but nice atmosphere and decorations. Food was really tasty and service quick. Would cone back again.
Small privately owned restaurant serving delicious well-presented food. Owner and staff are friendly and very efficient. Great to be back in a restaurant but they are still following Covid recommendations so felt safe and tables a nice distance apart. This is such a lovely way to support local businesses and so pleased to see it has survived. Would give it 6 stars if I could!
Very nice place, lovely village
Very nice anniversary meal. Food was lovely and the staff very attentive
They know how to cook meat! We had pork, lamb and beef steak and they were all cooked to perfection - the pork melted in the mouth! The atmosphere was lovely and cosy, and the food tasted as though it was all homemade but even better! Highly recommended
Excellent food and service
A pleasant meal. Service was exceptional but lacked a little atmosphere. Food was good but it felt a tad pricey. Nice place but not sure I would rush back. Best thing by far was the service. Friendly and attentive.
We really enjoyed the lamb and duck mains, as well as rhubarb crumble
Excellent food and service. Would heartily recommend.
Absolutely delicious food. An eclectic mixture of ingredients that worked really well together. We booked this quite last minute on our way back to the hotel and we re thrilled with our choice. Also had a good kid s menu.
Great venue and location
We had a lovely baby shower for my daughter , food was great and the staff were very accommodating .
Excellent food charming lovely place to stay . Service excellent . Food
Recently enjoyed a lovely meal here on 3rd march for our anniversary. We were served by a delightful young lady who was efficient and friendly. The food was very good and restaurant nicely decorated. We fully recommend and will return.
Excellent vegan options and great service.
Being good Friday it has to be fish and chips beautifully cooked light batter fresh fish
What a wonderful restaurant! The food, decor, ambience and staff all 5 out of 5 stars! We had the goat cheese & pear starter which was mouthwatering (see photo) and haddock and chips which was crisp, light and tasty! Would definitely return and highly recommend!
Great restaurant with fantastic food and staff. wine prices high.
10/10
Duck main, pigs-cheek starter and lovely sea food pasta dish. Couldnt fault.
Absolutely excellent food, you will remember it !!!
What a fantastic restaurant. Great to come to the lakes and not have to pay over the odds for sausage and chips. Gourmet food just 10% more than local pub grub. Recommend the haggis and pig cheek.
We had a lovely meal here on 1.6.23. All our dishes were delicious, the staff were efficient and friendly. The atmosphere was gentle and relaxing, making it a special evening out. We will be returning. Thank you Ivy House.
Coffee was decent
Excellent dinner. Good menu, interesting choices and not mad prices. Parking is a bit of a struggle but ok if you walk a few yards.
Had dinner here recently. Food was brilliant. Had the cheek for starters and duck for mains. For the price and setting this was perfectly aligned. Cocktails were also great. Note the opening times (5.30-8.30) only mean last orders at 8.30!
I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said he will try to remember to put it on next time , a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money.
Had a wonderful family meal to celebrate a birthday. The food was lovely and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Ivy House is highly recommended and a hidden gem on the outskirts of Keswick.
Dietary restrictions: Allergen information on the menu was inaccurate when we visited - beware if you have allergies or intolerances. Parking: Parking is up the hill a bit at the local school. Kid-friendliness: Not a place most kids would enjoy, definitely one for just the adults!
We had an amazing anniversary dinner here! Every detail of the food was delicious and we were very well looked after. The décor is cosy yet comfortable. The wine was great, too. A real gem in the heart of the Lakes - well worth hunting down!
Was staying at Ivy House, so ideal venue. The hake and lamb dishes were great and we can recommend this restaurant.
very good service
Food was delicious. A great find
Excellent room furnishings and cleanliness. Whole experience in the restaurant was very pleasant, food quality was v/good. Parking: Each room had a dedicated parking spot.
Delicious meal, service and cannot fault.
Absolutely superb!
Lovely food and friendly professional service in pleasant setting. Evening meal slightly better than breakfast, but both very good.
Well presented beautifully cooked food and a very friendly service.
Great food pleasant staff and a lovely venue
Great food, friendly staff an enjoyable meal. Would recommend to others.
Lovely setting, although there is no parking for customers not staying at the hotel. Once we ordered, the starters took about 35 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, the vegetarian starter we ordered had chorizo in it. Unfortunately we realised this too late. Kindly they took it off the bill but offered no explanation to how it happened. When the mains came I ordered steak medium rare, it was underdone and more like rare, but not too bad I couldn t eat it. Another person ordered lamb, which of the the pieces she got, one was great and the other was also underdone, when we asked to cook it some more so it was medium rare, the waitress was rather patronising saying we want it medium, when it was clearly rare. We did correct her saying we would like it medium rare. When we got the bill, peppercorn sauce, which was an extra £2 on the menu showed up as £2.50. When I questioned it, she said let me check and then after some time came back with a new receipt. Overall the quality of the food was lovely. The quality of the chef and waiting staff not exactly great.
Friendly staff who gave very good service and created a nice relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent and well presented
Although they were full and extremely busy AND we had not booked due to the fact we had only just arrived in Braithwaite, the lovely staff allowed us to order delicious takeaway and sip a replenishing ale while sitting in the cosy lounge. Thankyou so much!!
Dined here for an evening meal to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. The food is good and this is our second time to this restaurant. We both had 3 courses and coffees with minimal alcohol and the bill came to £100 for two people. Which in my opinion was rather expensive really for what we had but what can you do. The staff were very friendly here and the food was served quickly but not too fast so we didnt feel rushed. I think if you were to visit you would not be disappointed. Well done Ivy House
Great hotel and food in such lovely surroundings
Nice ambiance, friendly staff, good food, reasonable value
I live in France and came on holiday to the Lake District to visit my grandparents. It was the first time we had been to the Ivy House and the food was excellent. We all loved our food, whether it was meat or fish it was very well prepared and we enjoyed it. The cheese platter I had in the desert was also very good. We highly recommend this restaurant and I will gladly come back the next time I am in the area! Yohan
Absolutely gorgeous Beautifully presented the lamb melted in my mouth
Great meal tonight. Service was really good and the food lovely. Lamb beautifully cooked and Guinea Fowl very nice. Sticky Toffee puddings all round at the end rounded off a fantastic evening.
Beautiful food, we used as a takeaway, since we have a dog, and it was excellent
Lovely decor and very helpful and pleasant staff. Starter was pate on sour dough toast, one small slice with a large round of pate. We found the pate to be lacking in seasoning with not a lot of flavour. The temperature of the pate was too cold and if it had been at a slightly better temperature the flavour would probably have shone through more. We would give the starter 2.5 out of 5. I had the rump steak and pepper sauce and my partner had the hake. Both were very tasty and cooked well. We would give the mains 4 out of 5. What was worrying was the fact no one asked us to check in for Track and Trace. There was a bar code to check in on the wall but due to lack of internet access in the area it would not connect so we were unable to log in. No one asked as to leave our name and address as contact details. Once the vaccine has been given to everyone for COVID-19 we will come back but until that time we would not consider it. Just to add, we did notice the waitress wiping down our chairs and placemats when we left with antibacterial wipes.
Lovely meal and great atmosphere.
The fish and chips were excellent. In fact the beer batter was so light I was able to clear the plate, unusual with my small appetite.
Excellent place to eat
Very poor. Bland, poorly cooked food that disappointed. Would not recommend. Local pubs are better quality and better value.
Really enjoyed the food over all 3 nights. Superb.
Superb meal and service. Would highly recommend.
Lovely meal and restaurant but lacking music or an atmosphere (we put it down to Covid restrictions).
Great food Super staff
Pros: Tasty food (although peppercorn sauce was bland). Good service and a charming restaurant. Cons: A bit overpriced and older clientele
Excellent food and no problems moving us to a table in a cooler position! Much appreciated!
Stunning food, wine and a lovely atmosphere
We stayed at Ivy House for three nights and had dinner with them in the first. I have to say, the food was delicious; the fish was so tender & fresh and everything including down to the berries with dessert, tasted locally sourced. Service was slightly abrupt (depending on who served you), although some people would just call that efficient. We were pleased to see the staff were still all wearing masks & deep cleaning every table & chair between each customer. Parking is a bit tight, but its a lovely little hidden gem off the beaten track, which we would highly recommend.
Very good breakfast.
Had a lovely meal at Ivy House in Braithwaite nr Keswick. The dining room is very nicely decorated and the food is delicious ( one of the nicest meals weve had on our visits to Keswick.) Lovely to have somewhere for a celebration meal
Superb food and service. Happy to do gluten and dairy free without fuss. Great experience
Restaurant and building was immaculately presented and finished to a high quality. Beautifuly presented food that was cooked perfectly, fab drinks choice and friendly staff! Didnt realise you could also stay there!! A must visit when I the area!
Delicious meals
Lovely ambience, great food and service
Really enjoyed the Ivy house. Lovely atmosphere, pleasant interior, first class service and couldnt fault the food.
Thank you for the delicious takeaway last night. Pork was particularly yummy!
The ambiance was fantastic, a really well decorated place, with fantastic staff and lovely food. We had drinks in a lounge room while we waited for our food to be ready. We ordered a few different dishes, and all were absolutely fantastic. Everything was reasonably priced, and would heartily recommend to anyone wanting good food and good atmosphere!
Went twice. High quality restaurant but reasonably priced. The food was cooked to high standard. Good local produce. Not too much, not too little. Friendly staff always polite and quick efficient service. Well done.
Lovely restaurant, excellent Valentines meal
The Restaurant was excellent, the meal was superb. It was my first visit to Ivy House and hopefully not my last.
Lovely meal had by us all. Very pleasent and comfy. Very friendly and nice staff.
We visited on a HPB package and were impressed with all the adjustments made Covid related . As safe as can be felt in current circumstances. Excellent food in the restaurant. Worth a visit.
Delicious meal for our anniversary attentive staff thanks Hannah tasteful decor just a touch too bright and the Amazon Prime soul and blues playlist not really suitable dinner jazz more appropriate
Very good food dinner breakfast and wine.
The breakfast choices and service are really good. I recommend the smoked salmon and eggs. The full English is also amazing, if you can eat it all. You can pretty much order what you like. We didnt eat here in the evenings so I cant comment.
Great food and atmosphere
Sadly, the quality of the food and the standard of service have both deteriorated markedly since the new team took over. We will not be returning for over-priced, second-rate food until things improve.
Excellent restaurant. Good food, friendly efficient staff. Highly recommended.
Try not to visit on bondholders night (Monday) Reduced menu.
Friendly enthusiastic young owners Food beautifully presented and modern
Hoping to return this week end having been four times before. Superb well seasoned food, friendly staff, well worth the booking.
This is a gem of a place in Braithwaite village, serving excellent food and wine.We have visited on several occasions and have never been disappointed with the quality and presentation of the food. Thank you Laurence and Rachel for looking after us so well.
Excellent food and service. Limited menu but something for everyone. Returned November 2017 to find this restaurant is currently closed. Very sad to hear this as it had great promisentropic.
Great food and well priced shame it is only open to hpb guests
