I ve only eaten smaller plates or cakes here but they are always very good and the service is friendly and efficient. Dietary restrictions: Good gluten free cakes

Most cafes and tearooms in Keswick inexplicably close at 4pm, but at Merienda we got a warm welcome and some delicious homemade cakes.

Lovely cafe, we had a delicious grilled cheese toastie. Service was excellent - Ryan was especially helpful

One of my favourite places in Keswick, serving various delicious options for breakfast. Usually been served by the lovely Ben, who has a smile that would light up any room and always looks after his diners. The Hunter breakfast is delicious as is the poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise, which is gorgeous! Friendly, professional staff throughout and always a pleasure to visit. Also with being Keswick, little 4 legged friends can go in for a sneaky sausage under the table. Frankly, I cant wait to get back at Christmas! Parking: Located in town centre but a large public car park behind.

Minimal breakfast of modest quality at an exorbitant price: 4 coffees + 2 toasts, butter and jam + 2 scrambled eggs (addition of bacon 3 pounds!) + service 47.30 pounds!!! Unacceptable even for a tourist location like Keswick. Smelly bathroom It was recommended to us, we wont be back

Very disappointing food. Frozen stuff fried... Like so many places but this was trying to pretend to be something else. Corn fritters were awful. Falafels were dry. Staff were OK. Very noisy music so not great for groups. Wouldnt go again.

Simply in google terms, A mocha is a blend of a cappuccino and a hot chocolate Here they make it with espresso in lots of water and only adds chocolate powder, after I had a sip and asked the owner! Hence this cafe doesnt deserve a single star, when there are proper mocha making competitors in this town. They made a mocha with espresso added with lots of water and just chocolate powder. It s much better worth going to proper coffee making cafes in Keswick! Also the staff took longer than 10 mins to make a flat white, cappuccino and a mocha. My two other regular coffee drinkers told me that their flat white and cappuccino was terrible. The Square orange cafe bar can make a proper mocha in 2 mins which I tried yesterday! Terrible experience in my first ever week in Keswick!

My husband and I had evening meal here last Thursday and the meal was beautiful, I dont eat meat so ordered the falafels and my husband had chipotle chicken and both meals were cooked fresh and the service was excellent, I had the lemon dessert with shortbread and meringue which was big enough to share. I highly recommend this eatery and when back in Keswick we will definitely eat here again 5*

Location, service and food were good. Problem was that of the 7 of us that dined there on Saturday night, 6 were vomiting by the next morning. Not been this ill in 20 years, and just recovering 24hrs later. The common denominator was maybe the olives to start. Real shame as it s a lovely place with good service and food. I ve got to question the hygiene practices after such an experience as I ve been fortunate to never have had gastroenteritis in the UK, as I m usually very careful. The added irony is that I m a Gastroenterologist.

We booked a table at Merienda for our anniversary after reading a lot of good reviews and we re glad we did! The menu was varied and worked well for both a fussy meat eater and a vegetarian. The service was great and food was delicious. We liked it so much we went back again 2 days later! My husband had exactly the same fillet steak and I tried another of the vegetarian options, the falafel (the first time it was the corn fritters). It was all great.

Best fish I ve ever had in my life, the Seabass Fillet was an absolute masterpiece. The Service was aswell very polite and friendly.

Interesting menu. Lovely soup, sweet potato and coconut soup was delicious. I wish I could live nearby. Wheelchair accessibility: No steps at the entrance. Good for a wheelchair.

Can t fault this fantastic restaurant in the middle of the town centre. Advise booking, but the staff were great and it was delicious. Good selection of drinks too. We come here every time we come to Keswick. Thanks for a lovely evening as always.

Not great. A hodge podge of a menu covering various cuisines. The problem is that the quality of the cooking didnt feel much beyond that of a keen home cook. We ate it all but given mains are about £20, you might expect a bit more. We had soup and bread starters. The bread starter for 7 quid was poor - a bleached white roll, sliced into rounds, that looked and tasted like it was from a supermarket and warmed in the oven. For mains, veggie pasta and sea bass. The fish tasted good but a crisper skin wouldve improved the dish. Boiled carrots, slightly undercooked green beans and lumpy mashed potato were underwhelming. Edited: toned down my unnecessary sass. To the owner, thank you for replying. Hope the feedback is helpful. I do wish you and your team well.

I agree with the previous speakers. Food is nothing extraordinary. Finished components well put together. The staff was extremely friendly and we were able to get a seat even without a reservation. Prices are OK.

Service: Wheres the zero star option. Jesus christ I felt suicidal. We waited 55 minutes for our extremely easy to make food. I genuinely could have hunted and gathered quicker. It even took them 15 minutes to come and ask us for anything. 30 mins to get 2 tap waters . The staff have the attentiveness of Stevie Wonder. The chef looked like he was catching flies. The place was only 25 percent full and the biggest table just had drinks. People who arrived after us even ate before us by 10 mins and we ordered before they turned up . The Food: Wedges were tesco freezers heated no seasoning. The pitta bread was a pitta bread. Hummus ok but likely shop bought along with the falafels. The salad was almost comically drenched in balsamic glaze. It looked like the Lakes... My partners meal was also below average. The cornbread was rubbery and tasteless. They took off about £6 for the wedges and halloumi. However after the 1:20 of torture I felt owed money. I hope Lanie and the crew improve if not career change needed.

The food was good but nothing that made you say you were thrilled or extraordinary that you couldnt do yourself at home. The Lam Burger with the goat cheese consisted of ready-made ingredients that you can get in the supermarket. It was just simple food but well prepared. The staff was very friendly and you get a large carafe of water for free when you sit down, which is very nice.

Called in one evening without booking. We were seated upstairs. The food was delicious, I had the falafels with hummus, tzatziki, salad and wedges. My husband had the meatballs with linguine. The tables for two are really small so we were glad there was a free table next to us for placing glasses. Music was quiet so we could easily hear the conversation across the room. The atmosphere downstairs was much better so we would book and return again.

Ended up making a last minute reservation here, and were very glad we did! The service and atmosphere were lovely, and they have the best pulled pork Ive had since I moved to the UK. Would definitely recommend a visit if you can!

We visited Merienda and following reading other reviews and was very happy with our choice. If you want to go and have a pub lunch where your choices are Cumberland sausages, burgers and chips visit one of many local pubs. If you want to have a good quality locally made meal then you cant go wrong here. All freshly produced, this was our favourite meal of our few days in Keswick and Medienda comes highly recommended. A friendly welcome is assured

Dog friendly, welcoming staff, great food & drinks.

Called in for a coffee and immediately given a warm welcome, lovely atmosphere, great coffee. We had a toasted cheese scone ( something I d never thought of doing) and it was delicious came with Brie and onion chutney. They had a wine delivery while we were there and he was asked if he wanted a coffee that s lovely to see. Top marks to the staff can t wait to return

Above average good food with an interesting varied menu to sort all pallets. We went here several times the week before Easter and it was starting to get busy, get there early for morning breakfast and book for evening meal.

Wow. At first I thought the prices were a little inflated, but then I tasted the food. Beautifully fresh and flavoursome, cooked to perfection. Genuinely don t remember the last time I enjoyed a meal rather than simply refuelled. Came back the day after next, and will certainly be back the next time I m in these parts. Excellent. Kid-friendliness: Kids menus double up and colouring sheets/spot-the-difference games. Staff very friendly to little ones. Sandwiches, beans/scrambled egg on toast, porridge, smoothies/milkshakes, etc available.

Sunday evening was quiet but a good atmosphere. Food was disappointing. The goat cheese starter was awesome - really tasty. My husband had the bread with a dip - disappointed to spend £6 on bread you can now get from most supermarkets. Main course for me was the pulled pork burger. At £19.50 I expected more - more flavour, more herbs/spices. Instead it was quite underwhelming. My husband had the pork & beef meatballs with linguine. The dish looked good but was again underwhelming. Not worth £18.50. Service was good. Overall overpriced and not recommended.

A definite place to visit and revisit again and again! The menu is quite extensive ( refer to the website) . Everything seems to be made from scratch which wonderful to see. The Staff were very attentive but not intrusive. I meant to take some photos but forgot but if we stay another few days we might, just might book a table to experience such amazing food.

Good food, great hospitality

Lovely evening to be had here, food was excellent, all home made and plenty of it. We had the Meatball Linguine and Corn fritters, Lemon posset and Sticky toffee for desert. Nice ambient background music making for a perfect atmosphere where people arent having to fight over the volume of music when talking. Service was friendly and would definitely recommend it.

Been wanting to try here for ages and it did not disappoint. There were no tables when we walked in, so they booked one for us in 45mins. They texted the booking while we went for a drink. I had the teriyaki beef tacos which were amazing. My husband had the sweetcorn fritas which were lovely also.

Dont bring kids! 2 options for children, beans on toast or cheese sandwich. £7.50 for a cheese sandwich that didnt come with any is a joke. The star ratings are given as the adult food was fine but was left feeling disappointed spending that much on a lonely looking 2 slices of bread with grated cheese. Kid-friendliness: Very bad childrens menu. We ordered both options for our kids. The cheese sandwich for £7.50 was just that. 2 slices of white bread with grated cheese. Even the crusts were cut off to make it even less food. For £7.50 I would expect at the very least some crisps on the side. The beans on toast were standard.

It was a bit quiet when we first walked in but after we ordered more people walked in, so the atmosphere was good, really cozy and warm (it was quite early when we arrived anyway). Service was great, our server was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and you can tell they use top quality ingredients. We had the vegetarian options.

Visited here for a spot of early lunch one day while visiting Keswick. Interesting menu, somewhat different to many of the usual cafes and restaurants about, a little more varied use of ingredients and produce. Busy little place, food was tasty (soup and halloumi). Service very good. We enjoyed it.

We used to go to Merienda pre COVID and we always liked their food and drinks, it has always been at the pricier end but now that we have been back to visit family, we popped in for breakfast with our kids. I am not happy to pay £3.45 for a babyccino!!! Thats so expensive for warm milk. Sadly we wont go back.

AWFUL!!! Waited nearly half an hour for coffees (not an exaggeration). Watched everyone ordering after us get served. Had to go up to the counter in the end, then rude reply - made to feel daft for asking 1 of 2 cakes decent, the other just bad Coffee average - far better just a few doors up or down the street slight language barrier at times. Not a major issue, added a touch of Fawlty Towers if anything Went to pay, not only no sorry, or offer of discount or something like that, but the little old lady said to customer in front, you re a lovely customer, I wish all were like you as she slyly shot me a look as if outrageous service was my fault actually a highlight, at least the blatant passive aggressive mad me chuckle Only good experience was chatting to a lovely couple on the table next to us, laughing about service £13.50 for two coffee and cakes I ll never see again

Lovely cafe in the heart of Keswick, with a good range of gluten-free options (the chocolate brownie was delicious). The coffee was lovely and hot. Open on an evening too.

Didn t expect dinner at Keswick hard to come by (so busy!) the restaurant kindly let us have a table without booking. Love the calm vibes and fast services. Had baked local trout, when an East Asian sees a whole fish, it s happy time. Great flavour, enjoyed the veg and the freshness of the fish. Some Pak Choi here and Cucumber there, great combo! Enjoyed every bit thoroughly with skilful fork skills that I m very proud of.

The staff are really friendly and accommodating. The food is amazing particularly the Eggs Way.

We ate here last night (sat 4 th March ) Found the food beyond expectations. We found the prices were in line with other similar establishments and would definitely visit again when in Keswick.What we found especially unique and something we ve not found anywhere else is the fusion of worldly cuisine. Wish we had the opportunity to dine for breakfast and lunch because it truly was amazing . I had corn fritters ..partner had chicken jerk leg . Beers and wine were same prices as most bars . Go visit

Fast and friendly service- amd excellent food (they used Dukkah!)

Enjoyed the halloumi salad and my partner had the beans which they really enjoyed. Plenty to choose from the menu. Service was very quick considering there were no seats left.

The most miserable fella served us..food presentation was better than the taste. Wont be returning.

The waiter was miserable to the point he was rude. No smiles or conversation. Asked if we could swap an item for an alternative an he replied with one word. Extra. The eggs were so overcooked, my dog wanted to play fetch with them, oh and if you ask for butter it is thrown at you. The couple next to us ordered toast, and had to ask for butter just like we had to. The tea was horrible and was the corn bread. It was so sweet it was like a cake. The bacon and sausage were good. I will not go back, and would suggest others avoid it. £45 for 4 less than average meals

Merienda was a nice discovery. Food unbelievable and staff very friendly and helpful. Every course was delicious and more impressive than the previous one. The sriracha chicken wings and the chocolate fondue to share were our highlight. Would definitely come again if in Keswick. Well worth a visit!

Breakfast here was okay. Tea wasnt to my liking, although appreciate that is subjective. Eggs Benedict was also okay. I suppose it was relatively good value for money as it wasnt overly dear.

Second time here, first for a post mtb ride coffee and a snack and this time for a full breakfast/drinks with our small dog. Staff are excellent as is the food. Made to feel welcome too, so looking forward to 3rd visit in the near future. 5*

The most unfriendly staff I ever met in Keswick, I mean, literally every staff were rude. If you don t want the cold faces to destroy your trip, don t go!!! Can t believe this kind of cafe has a similar mark as other great cafes in Keswick.

Went for dinner on a Sunday night. The food was very tasty, but the service was lacking - for example, cutlery for six was left in a pile in front of me without a word. Wont be returning.

+ 5 stars for the hostess who was welcoming and kept asking us if everything was okay Unfortunately this was the only good part. - the rest of the staff is just cold and unfriendly - there was a door at the back of the restaurant which was open, causing us to feel cold, we requested a staff member to shut it but other staff members kept opening it. It got so unbearable that husband shut the door and guess what, it was opened yet again. No care or concern for the guest seated - the food is overpriced; and not like the food is outstanding. We ate at restaurants like Fellpack, The round, Brunch by lake road; the food and the staff there were way better I wouldn t recommend this place and there are much better restaurant options in Keswick

I had visited a couple of years back and was excited to return but sadly the experience was not good, we would not recommend this restaurant. - Service was slow, despite a fairly empty restaurant, we had to wait 20/25 mins before our drinks order were taken. - Our waiter was rude and not very accommodating to any questions we had regarding the menu. - The atmosphere wasnt great - very strange background music and there was no effort for it to feel like an evening restaurant environment. - Food was overpriced for the quality. We decided to leave after starters (of which were poor and overpriced). Super disappointing as Id taken friends there based off a better experience but I can see there has been a pattern of poor reviews recently so I should have checked. We will not be returning as there are plenty of lovely places in Keswick to dine with better service, food and ambience.

Starters excellent, main courses perfectly acceptable. Problem was that everything came too quickly and out of order. Our aperitifs arrived after our starters. Our wine arrived after our main course. Some food was dropped on the floor. A bit more care and tempo and we would have had a lovely evening. As it was it felt rather rushed. Shane really as otherwise seemed like a nice place for dinner.

Everything in this cafe is of a high standard however what does let it down are the washroom facilities. A single WC which is accessed immediately from the eating area. Parking: With the cafe being accessed off the main Square the only parking available is in the general parking area to the rear of the building.

We had a fantastic meal here this evening, Im afraid i dont take pictures of our food Id sooner sit and enjoy the meal! My husband had the Tacos, and I had the Chipotle chicken breast, OMG we could happily have eaten this again. The staff were attentive, polite, helpful and very efficient, could not fault the service. We will definitely be returning when we return to Keswick, thank you Merienda.

An English restaurant with very normal food that seems superb to them, who eat badly. They put sausage on everything, and make croquettes! They offer a ridiculously small Catalan-style octopus (a tapa). And bravas, which are bravas only in name, made with ketchup and mayonnaise. All very expensive.

Dined at Merienda last night and we were blown away. Fantastic food and beautiful cocktails - a lot of pride had gone into the food which was well presented and my steak was cooked perfectly. The staff were very friendly and keen to please. Would strongly recommend

Had a lovely meal with really nice food and attentive staff

We saw a young woman cleaning her nails in the kitchen. When we complained, the man in charge shrugged us off coldly saying she was the dishwasher and she was on the other side of the kitchen. He did not apologise and seemed annoyed. We had seen her doing it for more than a minute and thought this set a very low standard for hygiene. Should have cancelled order in retrospect as it was disgusting then when food came it was not prepared as well as the people s next to us( had the same meals) and we were missing a few components. We were not treated nicely and the atmosphere afterwards was negative.Would absolutely not recommend as the food is also not much or good quality for the price.

The service at Merienda was first rate. Sadly, the food was not at the same high standard - my lamb burger was good but the slab of cold goats cheese that was dropped on it made it unpalatable. Wine was average.

Popped in for breakfast on a wet Tuesday morning, it was quite busy. I ordered the porridge and berry compote with a side of toast, it was a big bowl and tasted great. My wife ordered scrambled egg on toast and it seemed very good too. Coffee was really good. Been here before, will be back!

Outstanding coffee.

Food of evening main course swimming in oil and grease. Coleslaw had brown decomposing leaves in it. I had a severe stomach ache after the meal. This used to be a good quality restaurant. Soup at lunchtime was OK.

Booked three days in advance for a group dinner, phoning to explain that one of the party had a few food allergies. I was told that this was no problem so went ahead and booked. Left notes on the booking when asked, three days in advance, explaining the allergies again. We then arrived and were told that they were uncomfortable serving us, they couldnt accommodate our dietary requirements and would be unable to serve us. Left us with nowhere to eat as everywhere else was fully booked, not even a proper apology. Avoid if you have any allergies as apparently they cant deal with them. Edit: To respond to the owners response we called three days in advance, left booking notes three days in advance. They called two hours before the booking and left a message as where we were staying there was no signal. I completely understand restaurants might not be able to accommodate complex allergies, but I dont understand being told twice and leaving it until 2 hours before to let us know they cant do that. Dietary restrictions: If complex they cant accommodate and wont warn you.

The food was ok, but overpriced. We ordered the daily specials: salmon linguine and lamb burger. The teriyaki salmon linguine in particular felt very overpriced. To be fair, another fish dish (the trout) that we did not order has a more reasonable price.

Lovely food. Freshly cooked and hot. Tempura was a highlight...better than Japan! Surprisingly quiet, deserves to be much fuller! Food

The food was lovely, well seasoned and spiced. The service was amazing from start to finish with very kind waiters. The atmosphere was relaxed with calm music and a few other families enjoying their meals!

Pathetic service.There was a lot of stuffs on the menu and nothing was actually available to order. Staff lanie,w was very rude and asked us to go out because we only ordered coffee without cake!!!!! Very unprofessional.

Was very disappointed with the service. We were a group of 8 people and The waitress Lanie told us that only the ppl who ordered can sit there even though there was space. We had travelled and come a long way to visit and have a good place to sit and have coffee. As there was nothing else in the menu, we had just ordered coffee. And we were very uncomfortable to just have coffee as among our group, as ppl were asked to leave. Wouldn t recommend this cafe as the customer service is very very poor.

The staff who served us wasn t polite from the beginning. She kept on staring at us and repeatedly asked us what we were having. She was expecting and asking whether we were all having something to eat. When we asked them the menu, they said only cakes and coffee. So we gave our first order and was having the coffee , she came towards us and told that she cant accomodate all of us that too with a stern face so unprofessional . Some how we finished the coffee whilst our friends waited outside offended.will not suggest this place.

Very disappointed with the service received from Ms. Lanie . She was very impolite to our group who went for having dinner but she told us only coffee and snacks are available and we could jot have dinner and she said she could not accomodate all 12 of us in her shop because only few of us were having coffee at that time. I humbly request the management to take action on her immediately!!!

Very bad experience from her especially staff side

Very rude customer service, eventhough they havent any customers in the shop they forced us to getout of the Cafe, The customer staff Lanie was very rude and behaved without any respect. We were a group of 8 and we ordered 4 coffee and they said we need to wait till 5 pm to have a proper meal so we decided to have 4 coffee. But the staff Lanie informed us to leave the premise or we need to order coffee per head. Atlast we all left the cafe even without finishing our coffee.

Worst experience Response: We have travelled quiet alot and decided to take our lunch after seeing their menu outside and at this restaurant and they were not having and food from the menu u and they just had coffees and cake , We had paid for the coffees. Infact Restaurants do not tell their customers only the ppl who are having food to sit and the rest to go out. While we were there, we had noticed that the restaurant was empty and infact the ppl sitting next to us were actually surprised with this attitude shown to us. We were very careful not to be loud and we had come to have a break and the attitude shown to us was very much upsetting. We do not have a problem wiith Lanie being a long serving manager, it s just the attitude of customer service was very disappointing that we didn t even finish our coffees and went out. Anyways we apologize if we were loud and caused your customers to leave.

Not great customer service provided by the staff at this restaurant. Went in during the lunch hour, but was told that only cake and coffee was available. When I came back in to see my friends inside the store, who had ordered coffee (hence they were paying customers), me and my brother were treated with a stern and unfriendly look by one of the staff members. As we realised we werent welcomed there, I walked out to avoid any trouble or confrontation. I just wanted to see my friends and just have a quick check-in but that was seen as hostile. Definitely will not be coming back to the restaurant again.

We were a party of 23 celebrating a birthday. The staff were helpful at every stage from booking to dining. We brought a cake which we were able to assemble and decorate at Merienda before the event, they provided a table specially for it. The food was incredibly good and they catered for dietary needs.

Spent 3 days in the lake district and had breakfast here every morning. The food and coffee was amazing! Lani and her team were great, very welcoming and always had a smile on their face.

Called in today for breakfast,the lovely waitress Lanie was amazing,made sure we had service with a smile then came to check on us which was so nice of her as she had other tables she was busy with.I will be recommending this delightful little cafe to all my friends,can t wait to call again.

Meriendas is a lovely place for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or just a coffee and cake. The staff a warm and friendly. It gets very busy at times, but the staff are always professional and kind and take time to make sure everyone has what they need, especially Lanie. They are also great with the dogs and welcome them too.

Marienda use to be great pre-covid, but it has sadly went down hill! Food is bland, optional sides are no longer available, small portion sizes and very expensive. Disappointing to say the lease ...

A small restaurant with exceptional service, a quaint seasonal menu and a chilled atmosphere. I had a full roasted trout and it was beyond delicious!
