We were able to walk in for a 3 course lunch with wine at 1:30 on a Saturday without a reservation. The service was good and we enjoyed the food very much. Would recommend the soufflé starter. It was very tasty with bacon and lots of cheese. For mains, we had the Ribeye and the Brossen oak smoked rump steak, and both were cooked medium, without blood running, as requested, and was delicious. We also enjoyed a blue cheese sauce with the steaks. We had a glass of Rioja and a glass of Primativo wine. Both were full-bodied and great with the steaks. The Rioja had a more smoky taste and the Primativo a more sweet raste. We also enjoyed their blackberry and apple crumble. They played upbeat music, which was a little too loud in the beginning, but they did turn it down a bit when asked. Overall it was a bit expensive but the food and wine were very nice.
Wonderful experience, waiters was exceptional with my young son and the food tasted fabulous. It is primarily a steakhouse, the a relatively short menu beyond the steak options, but everything was beautifully presented reasonably priced and a lovely warm atmosphere ... My son even offered to get the bill
Went fir a birthday treat, the food did not disappoint... also the gingerbread martini was to die for. We got a fillet steak and the vegan burger with sides, both absolutely loved each dish. Would definitely recommend if your after a fancy meal in keswick
Staff were friendly and so attentive, the food was great. My steak, a 10oz bone in sirloin was bit more on the rare side of medium-rare for my liking but it was sooooo tasty. I would have thought steak came with chips rather than being an optional extra. Will definitely visit next time I'm in Keswick!
One of the best meals I've ever had! Highly recommended! We did the Salmon lollipop for a starter, the charteubriand for the main, and the sticky toffee pudding as the dessert. The salmon lollipop was perfect for sharing and was a really clever idea. The meat was super juicy, so much so, we just could not resist devouring that first then having the sides that came with it (also nice) after. The sticky toffee pudding was also delicious.
Blink and you'll miss it moment when we first tried to find the place. It's called Inn in the Square which we didn't realise and phone data was poor so we couldn't Google it, but by chance we found it and it's a very warm and luxurious type of establishment. We knew it would be by the price, so it definitely lived up to expectations Initial service was poor as we were 10 minutes early and the lady at the reception said we had to wait but didn't indicate for us where to wait and even ignored my son. She didn't seem to have much time for us wet folk. After that though the service was amazing. Our server was a well dressed man who treat us so well, I felt almost rich at that point haha. I asked for the gluten free options and he was very knowledgeable about which ones were safe. Three things on the sides were gf, the soup form the starters, all the steaks, and the chicken masala. I went with the masala, not expecting it to be anything fab, and mushroom and bacon on the side. My partner had the oak smoked steak and son had the fillet, with chunky chips and garlic bread. They came out after around 20 or so minutes. The first whiff of the masala was amazing and as soon as I tasted it I was in love. It had a mango chutney, onion and tomato relish, flavoured rice and poppadom. The chicken just melted in your mouth. On all honesty, it was by far the best chicken tikka masala I have ever had. My family loved their choices as well as the their sides. It cost a lot but it really was a wonderful service and food so I really can't grumble. A birthday treat for my wonderful partner.
This really is a good restaurant. Have visited here several times and never had a bad meal. My starter ( scotch egg) was packed with flavour and my steak was juicy and perfectly cooked. Chunky chips were totally gorgeous. The restaurant is on the pricy end but it is worth treating yourself.
A nice evening meal out. The decor and ambience of the restaurant was welcoming, light and open. You certainly felt like you were walking into a nice place. We were quickly escorted to our table and drinks ordered which came within 10 minutes. For starters we had ‘tempura’ sea food and chicken parfait. Unfortunately the batter was way to thick to be called tempura which was a shame because I ended up leaving over half the batter due to it being too thick and uncooked on the inside. I ended up taking out the shell fish. Which I will add. Was cooked beautifully. Very well cooked. Just a shame on the batter. The chicken parfait was very smooth and full of flavour with thick cut bread and sweet and tangy onion jam/marmalade. For mains we ordered 2x 10oz rib eye medium rare and 2 x 7oz fillet with 5 sides being 2 x chunky chips, ‘seasonal’ veg, onion rings (warning coming up) and creamed spinach. The steaks were delicious and cooked perfectly to our liking which were accompanied by a roasted tomato and shallot. The sauces again were very nice. Chunky chips were fluffy and crispy. The creamed spinach was amazing and had a nice thick layer of cheese on top. Now, the onion rings, came with a thin cheese (maybe Parmesan) sauce drizzled on top. Which wasn’t stated on the menu. Unfortunately my partner doesn’t like strong cheese so this was a big no for her. Big shame. The seasonal veg, isn’t what most would class as seasonal, more like steamed/boiled standard broccoli cauliflower carrots peas swimming in a shallow pool of water in the bottom of the cup. Overall, I would recommend and I would come again!
Delicious fresh cooked, interesting menu, friendly efficient staff, lovely both homely and smart decor. Busy so book ahead.
Charge twice for food awaiting refund!....
Delicious steak, mashed garlic potatoes, rose wine
Great service, excellent food all round lovely experience.
Brilliant service good food
Reviews looked good, and to be fair the steaks were cooked well, but that s where the good stuff ended. The steaks weren t seasoned at all and tasted rather bland, the garlic sauce was flavourless, the sides are obscenely priced, and nothing we received was worth anything like the price we paid. Usually I d have raised my concerns with the wait staff, but nobody bothered to come to check on us. I wasn t expecting fine dining, but at £50+ per head I was expecting a little better than a chain pub.
Would not recommend my worst enemy to dine here. The steaks was inedible. The service not very good and the surroundings was rubbish tables to close together for the prices that they charge was overpriced for what you get booked a month in advance for a rubbish table asked if we could change and told bluntly no. Wrong order brought for mains. Completely ruined an anniversary dinner. Poor quality steaks for a so called steakhouse
Lovley venue, modern and comfortable. We had great service and great attention on my husbands picky needs lol but they delivered them all accurately and with good humour. Everything was well cooked and flavoursome
Really good food, service was a bit lacking but the food made up for it
Cannot fault it. The first impression quiet pricey, but the quality is there. Food
Excellent 3 day break.
Really dog friendly and beautiful setting. However rated 3 stars for this experience because firstly; I ordered the bbq pulled burger but it came without the stated panko crusted onion rings and the bun brioche not pretzel as stated. I had to send the first one back because it came smothered in sauce despite request for this to be on the side. Secondly service was also a little lacking. Had to wait around 10mins for wine despite 2 of our friends getting their drinks straight away. Peretti was lovely and zinfandel was nice when it arrived. Also no table check (which I know annoys some people) and no offer of would you like any other sauces etc.... but perhaps this would have been brought if wed asked. Overall everything was delicious but for £150 and other reviews was expecting a better experience therefore 3/5 stars for us. Visited for a Birthday January 2023.
Had lunch here today , it looked very good and reviews seemed to back it up, however I can honestly say the food quality was below average. We had a roast dinner with roast beef which was awful, the beef was extremely tough and most of the veg was under cooked, for £23 each we were expecting a very good quality main. Kids cheese sandwich was suppose to come with Fries and Veg sticks, instead just came with a small handful of tortilla chips not great for nearly £7 Would suggest improving the quality of the food and ensure you re serving what is displayed on the menu. Staff are friendly and dining area was tidy which was a positive Royal Oak up the road is my recommendation for Keswick Town centre
One of the best dining experiences Ive had. Excellent food with first class service. I would definitely come back to Keswick just to go to this restaurant again
Great steaks and service, but let down by the sides. Expected more than oven chips and boiled greens given the price!
Fabulous service , immaculate restaurant with great staff and service and best steaks ever .
Cannot fault this place every time it gets better and the food is amazing
Another fantastic meal here! I visited by myself a few months ago and came back today with my sister. Incredible food, we had the chateaubriand served rare and it was perfection. The staff are attentive and the service is great. A really nice treat meal, we can recommend!
Food was awful, pepper corn sauce tasted like kfc gravey
We decided to book the steakhouse on the last day of our trip away and we were not disappointed! We both had the steak and it was some of the best steak we ve had! Even the desserts were amazing! The staff were also super friendly which is a plus. Will definitely be back in future.
Booked on reviews .... Unfortunately left feeling disappointed. Cant fault the waiting staff, apart from the barman ... Id put him on suicide watch ... Another sufferer of hatemyjobitis. We ordered the middle eastern grill .... Nowt middle eastern about it. Roadkill with flatbread .... Avoid the dish. Well over a tonne lighter in the pocket, tourists are always gonna be fleeced, but come on, upper end pricing .... Deliver the goods. Wouldnt recommend, better places locally.
The food is really great and highly recommended the chateaubriand. Only let down is the service. We expected more knowledgeable staff, and at times staff were oddly slightly rude or not well trained for finer dining.
Where to start? So food, it is simply delicious! Taste and texture of meat it just a perfection. If anybody like to eat a good beef burger or steak it is a right places to go in Keswick. I am 100% sure that it want be a disappointment. Service, another strong point of Brossen Steakhouse. Waitress are extremely friendly which helps bulid a good atmosphere for have a nice meal. Deserts, again big bravo for Chef. One of this place which you want to come back again.
Really good food and service
Ordered a 10 oz ribeye and it was really nice but £35 for a ribeye with no fries or anything is a bit heavy Service was fast though and the waiters were cool
Aug bank holiday weekend. We found this place on the main square and managed to get a last minute booking. The food is excellent!
Called here for dinner with friends one evening. A busy restaurant with a comfortable and relaxed feel. The menu has plenty of choices and options to cater to most tastes. The steaks were all cooked to perfection (fillet steak and a chateaubriand, both medium rare). Whats not to love! The service was friendly and relaxed, and we didnt feel rushed at any point. Prices are reasonable. Booking is highly recommended. I would call here again. Recommended
My husband popped in here to ask about the possibility of a table where we could order from the steakhouse menu as we had our dog with us (here on holiday). It was our 10th wedding anniversary and we wanted something a bit more special than the usual pub meal. The guy at the desk was great, said they could seat us just outside the restaurant doors in some lovely cosy seats and our dog would be welcome. We came the next day, food was amazing. Shared the 20oz chateaubriand with sides of chips, onion rings and steamed veg. The waiter was wonderful I wish I caught his name; he was fab with our boxer dog lots of fuss, bowl of water and a treat. Really made us feel relaxed yet we could enjoy the higher end setting of a lovely restaurant with amazing food. Whole experience was perfect. We will definitely come back and likely stay in the hotel in the future too. Thank you
Lovely food, fantastic service.
Order your steak slightly under as it comes slightly over so by the time your enjoying it its definitely over
Really nice food and good service, would visit again.
Superb
Now this place is something else. The waiters were helpful in every way from puoring water to getting drinks(which where lovely) to ordered food bang on the dot everytime, the food was just awesome the tender and jiucy and presented in a way that showcases its appeal. 5 out of 5 from start to finish
Really enjoyed our meal here, the venue was really well set up, staff are extremely friendly. The food was superb
Wine was good and the venue itself was great however I was really disappointed with the Sunday lunch. The vegetables were bland and there was little seasoning and the seasoning that was present was not good. The potatoes were seriously lacking in flavour. I may return if in keswick again but not for the Sunday lunch.
An average experience. Our drinks order took a long time to get to us and arrived after our main meal was on the table. Nothing to complain about the food though as our steaks were cooked to perfection & the deserts were on point. Unfortunately the slow staff with drinks dragged the experience.
Im disappointed with a quality of food for such a high price. It was nice but very average. We ordered medium rare stakes but they looked medium well and too chewy. The chef said its the right temperature for medium rare and didnt sort them out for us. Nothing special about the stake combining with the price we paid, therefore I wouldnt recommend.
Hugely enjoyable meal. Shared a chateaubriand and it was delicious. Peanut butter chocolate fondant for desert spot on. Staff were very friendly, efficient and attentive. One of the more expensive restaurants in Keswick.
Steak cooked perfectly. Ordered the chateaubriand, compared to others, I question if what we received was 20oz. One of the manager/host who greeted us was rather rude, but the waiter (dragos) was friendly. I do normally like to be left to enjoy my meal, but we were unable to get the attention of any staff to order more drinks.
We arrived an hour early so we sat in front bar for a drink , which was a comfortable area but felt slightly bland. Maybe some area information booklets or a book relating to Keswick would have been enjoyable. Could have done with a card with WiFi code card on the table due to bad signal inside, understandly not needed for restraunt area. Inside the steak house, it was clean and definitely had 2 meter space between others during COVID-19 restrictions. The wall decor was enjoyable especially the cow and chicken meat anatomy. The ambience was calm and had a pleasant atmosphere. Waiters were very friendly, definitely going out of their way to welcome us in. Everyone was well presented. NOTE when our meal was served we were asked for anything else which we didnt need then 5mins into the meal was approched again to ask if the meal was ok which it was, and that was the last interaction until we finished, which I appreciated. Food was beautifully presented for both cuts of steak. Fantastic piece of rump, nicely smoked. The ribeye was delicious. Chips (amazing), Asian coslaw was refreshing. The sauce speaks for itself. Felt skin on onion wasnt necessary it didnt add anything to the meal. Cheese board was a beautiful way to end. The Brossen Stakehouse definitely deserves the reputation its earned. Recommend for others. Compliments to the chef! Thank you.
Good value and location. Excellent staff.
Great food and great service .
Amazing food and service and a beautiful interior
A very pleasant evening enjoying good food, wine and pleasant company. Enjoyed by Al.
Absolutely fantastic meal
Amazing food And exotic cocktails made on the spot quick with the smile Nice atmosphere Ultra lovely staff Coming back in the future Recommending for everyone
Restaurant is actually in the Hotel on the Square, we had trouble finding it at first! Food and service were lovely would definitely visit again.
Little pricey but food quality very good.
Just great food and wonderful service
It was really good
Top class.
Excellent meat!
Lovely surroundings and nice staff. Too much food on sharing platter that was mediocre in taste. Wine very nice. A lot to pay and in this instance more was not definitely more!
Excellent service and the food was great
Went there for Sunday lunch, really good, nice staff, nice place, smart.
Wanted to try this place whilst in Keswick, and was not disappointed... Contemporary decor and friendly atmosphere, didnt feel out of place in our walking boots ! Richard was a very attentive host with a sense of humour so we had a fabulous meal and a laugh! He suggested the Chateaubriand, which was perfect , a great experience.
The food at Brossen Steakhouse was to die for!! We ordered the Chateaubriand and we were not disappointed, the meat itself was phenomenal and all the accompaniments were great too. To finish off we had the cookie dough which was also amazing. Brilliant evenings worth of food and would happily go back again.
Fantastic! Amazing food, great service! Cant recommend it highly enough!
Made use of the Eat Out to Help Out discount and shared the Chateaubriand between 2 of us. Absolutely blown away by the food. Never had such a perfectly cooked steak and delicious sides, wine and cocktails
Superb, the steak was cooked to perfection. The service here is 5 star. Im rather pleased we found this little gem in beautiful Keswick
Great food good service and a lovely atmosphere
The food was nice, but the staff were unpolite and we had to keep stopping people to ask for things like salt or another drink. Then was sat waiting half hour after our meal where no one came over to ask if we wanted another drink or desert. We had to then ask someone for the bill but which seemed like the manager was really nice and helpful
Brossen has a lovely staff and great food. Service was really good.
Excellent service and great food
Excellent service, quality food and comfortable, safe environment. Worth every penny
We have been looking forward to dine and celebrate our wedding anniversary at Brossen Steakhouse , unfortunately we left very disappointed. The food lacked flavour we ordered the stake and lamb burger the quality of the meat was very poor my husband steak was testles and his plate was full of liquid from the meat . We order 3 sides the cauliflower cheese - did not have cheese very bland , the beef dripping chips did not match the description more like oven frozen chips and onion rings was horrible. We did complained and hardly eat the meals, however the staff did not acknowledge our complaints and did not make any effort to improve our experience. It felt as the venue is very profit orientated ( do not care about the customers experience) and knowing that Keswick is very popular holiday destination they will always have customers. Very disappointed will advice to avoid it . The only one think we enjoyed was the cocktails very well prepared and executed .
Came for the last night of our hols in Keswick. Weve stayed at the inn on the square in the past, even in the days when the chef came to work in tracky bottoms. Its always been good but tonight was fantastic. Food fantastic and the staff lovely.
Beautiful place staff friendly covid safe food amazing and great selection of local flavoured gins
Excellent
Steaks are amazing!!! I have never had a bad one from here.
Awesome steaks! Its pricey so more for special occasions but you get what you pay for which is excellence
Stopped here for Sunday lunch during a trip to Keswick, the food was absolutely amazing.
Great Sunday Lunch and good service will definitely go back again
Booked in expectation of something special - the reality was disappointing. Starters of pigs cheeks and salmon were fine though the pig cheeks were not crispy as billed - they did at least taste good. The caviar on the salmon was a bit of an illusion. We ordered rump and flat iron steaks for mains. The rump was excellent and cooked medium rare as requested. The peppercorn sauce was cold, and when changed, only just warm, anaemic and lacking in peppercorns. My partners flatiron, again ordered medium rare, was medium at best and her chimichurri sauce cold, greasy and unpleasant. The hand cut dripping chips were not really indulgent and a bit average. Onion rings very rustic. Seriously overpriced for what it was. The service was attentive but more staff than really necessary.
Excellent meal for tonights dual birthday celebration for Tory & Joy. Very attentive and friendly staff
Great burger and Mac cheese. Good range of local beers. Good service
Good service, very good meat. We enjoyed.
Lovely restaurant - wonderful food! Especially the egg custard for dessert. We went early so it was quiet, pleasantly so though, but can imagine a good atmosphere later on. Would go back!
Herdwick lamb dish sensational
Very well cooked steak and beautiful lamb. Great service, relaxed atmosphere with lovely decor. We will definitely come back.
Excellent food and service. 10/10
Make you feel really welcome lovely staff great atmosphere
Excellent standards of service
Great food and service. We had the early evening menu. All the meals were excellent and the staff were very attentive.
Fantastic food..great service..lovely atmosphere/decor.. lovely staff
Absolutely fantastic
Not bad prices considering the food is great
Amazing food Sunday dinner 2 courses £19.99
Very good meats but the sides could have been a bit better. Overall, good value for the price
Excellent quality. If you are looking for meat this is your place. We chose the 900g filetaco to share (two people) with 3 different companions. Good quality of meats. A little expensive but good for the quality.
what a hidden gem! we came for a sunday lunch and so had the roast, I have to say coming from London and working in hospitality this was a huge surprise regarding both service and food. Everything 10/10. Highly recommended
Always good food and service
Loved this place, food was worth the price tag
Food good & friendly staff. Rekaxing environment.
Very good steak. Other food courses also good. Maybe a little expensive for the area but only a little.
When my husband and I went to book a table for this place we were told either 5.30pm or after 9 so we booked for 5.30. When we got there the place was empty! So we did not feel the least bit welcome. I had the soup which was ok and then the pork belly which was mostly fat. Disgusting. My husband had steak which he enjoyed. We didn t bother with dessert. At least they didn t charge for my meal. A disappointment.
Poor service and overpriced food
What can I say? One of the best steaks had, and a great experience! Highly recommend to anyone who is in need of a good steak and willing to pay for it!
Tried the 3 course special for £25.50 and was impressed with the quality and choice and portion size. Service was excellent. Would recommend to others
Juicy steaks and fine service
Lunch was excellent, great menu, good sevice, great selection of drinks. A great place to have lunch.
Stayed in the hotel and dinner was included in the Brossen Steakhouse. My Mum was unaware but had already requested on the booking form special vegetarian requirements. Upon 1st night arriving for dinner only 2 vegetarian choices were available. Extremely poor choice in this day and age! No effort was made to rectify this complaint at the time. Staff were abrupt, dismissive and raised voices. We were both very embarrassed and had to calm my 82 year old Mum down as she was so upset. Organised mayhem and we werent alone in those thoughts. Every evening someone had a complaint! I will praise the reception staff for sorting this out fairly quickly making our stay somewhat bearable in the restaurant. However the food was nothing special.
This restaurant is part of the Inn on the Square Hotel. The restaurant is at the rear of the hotel and is well furnished. The toilets are down stairs and were clean and tidy. I have dinner with my wife which was very nice. The service was quick but not hurried. The food arrived within 30 mins of ordering which was stated on the menu because of the steak we ordered. The Beef dripping chips and onion rings were very good and not at all greasy. The steak was cooked to my liking (med/rare) and was tender and not dry. The house red accompanied the steak and was good value. Overall a very nice meal and only missed out on 5 STARS because we were seated at the back of an empty restaurant. Would recommend!
Disappointing return - I visited in May 18 and went back especially for the baby back ribs which at the time were great. How dissapointed I was - this time they were served upside down (weird way to present ribs anyway) had lots of fat and sinew, were not really smoked or bbq-ed. I think they had been boiled and the bbq sauce was served on the side. By the time I got to the last few ribs they were luke warm and I decided to leave them on the plate. The menu states you get an onion and some watercress - I guess they forgot the onion and the cress had an awful dressing. The sweet potatoe fries were nice but with a bill of £50 for two ribs, fries and 2 diet cokes - they were some very expensive fries!! Will not be back! I suggest the chef takes a good look at what its being served to customers and rethinks how it cooks or labels the ribs.
Great food in a great venue, and competitively priced
Looked great menu looked good however it did not deliver to the standard it was trying to portray would not visit again
Over priced for the food in offer but nice surroundings and good service
Great Sunday lunch
Food was top notch service a bit iffy one waitress in particular was pretty rude.
Great food
Fantastic food
But
Unfortunately not worth the money spent. Medium flank steak was extremely tough & asparagus way over cooked. They would happy change the food if you complained but there seemed to be a few people sending stuff back. 2 stars for effort and customer service but certainly not quality of food.
Disappointed food was only OK, but price was high.
Amazing burgers, nicest one Ive ever had. it was perfectly cooked, just the right size not to big not to small. theres nothing i would change about it, as it was perfect. personally i dont think it was to expensive because of how good it tasted, and you pay for what you get at the end of the day. I stayed in the hotel as well and that was very nice as well. without a doubt the nicest hotel in the lakes if not the country. service was amazing in the hotel and the restaurant was amazing. I would definitely stay again and go to the steakhouse again. 10/10 no faults what so ever would definitely stay again and eat at the amazing restaurant again definitely worth the price.
Good food but posh fuss and high prices We were in Keswick and wanted to eat a good piece of meat. So we went to this restaurant. Since we wanted to eat here without a reservation, it took a while until a table could be found for us. Apart from that, the service was very friendly and professional. The food was good, although not quite as good as one would expect based on the effort, appearance or price. A reservation seems advantageous. We would possibly come here again. But if we were to come back to Keswick we would probably try another steakhouse first.
Not as good as was expecting. Steak was slightly over done and sides of jacket and house slaw were past there best. Have visited bar in same venue before and enjoyed the atmosphere and good quality drinks. Restaurant wasnt the same experience unfortunately. Overpriced for what you get and better options in Keswick
