The Sizzling Stone, 29 Station St, Keswick CA12 5HH, United Kingdom
Local meats & seafood are seared on hot lava stones paired with real ales & wines in casual digs.
Amazing place!! Lovely food, the steak was just so tender!! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall great experience and great food!
Really enjoyed the Sizzling stone experience! Food was excellent. Staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. I prearranged some flowers to suprise my Mother on her birthday & they presented them to her. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Visit with family, very wet evening in October half term. Staff vary attentive, a little formal. Restaurant seemed a little drab and lacking in atmosphere. Not sure if lockdown restrictions had reduced capacity. Between us, we ordered two types of steaks, which we cooked on stone slabs at the table - that's the whole point of this restaurant. It's a fun novelty twist, but a little dated now. Instructions with cooking times are provided, and these proved accurate. Of the steaks, the beef fillet was very good, and what I would recommend. The prime rib was a little tough, and lacked flavour - disappointing as this is usually my favourite. As a restaurant specifically specialising in steaks, I expected better, hence my 3 star rating.
Great service, friendly staff. Loved the experience will definitely go again.
Incredible meal with brilliant staff! Would recommend to anyone who enjoys different cuts of meat freshly cooked at your table!!
Enjoyed the food. Flytraps were less than desirable and a air conditioner would be nice.
Delicious food, great experience! Love how unique this place is.
Lovely little restaurant and the food was amazing. I loved it. We didn't book but the staff were very helpful and squeezed us in - and I'm really glad they did. Definitely a go to place. The photo of the stone is after we'd cooked everything. Delicious.
Great restaurant. Staff friendly. Great experience cooking our Monkfish on the hot stones. The steaks looked fabulous aswell. Will definitely return..
Great atmosphere. The food was unbelievably good.
Mixed grill doesnt really work with stone cooking, there isnt enough space on the stones to cook all at once, and by the time the first batch is done the stones have cooled down too much. Another downside is your clothes end up stinking of beef. I see other reviews mention cooking times are provided, we didnt receive any so were having to guess. Maybe this led to our other issues.
Superb food, steak was extremely tender and priced very reasonably. Overall great experience would 100% recomend dining there. Staff were extremely nice and helpful.
Great food, great staff and unique experience. Well worth a try . Luca and staff were brilliant and we were made very welcome
Fantastic food and service here. Highly recommend the meat feast for one. Loved the little twist of cooking our own meat on a hot plate. Highly recommend this restaurant. Will definately be going back!
Great food you cook yourself. A good evening out
Excellent steak. May be a greater selection of side dishes required, wine was good.
We got the mixed sharing platter on the lava stones. Lamb skewers, pork medallions, sirloin, rump and pheasant breast. Wow! All came raw and we cooked each portion on the stones with sides to our liking. Brilliant service and friendly staff, delicious food. What more do you want?
Really efficient service and really friendly staff, EXCELLENT steaks (we had a ribeye and a fillet) and the stones gave us a great sear. The sides and desserts were also amazing. Definitely go!
A great experience for all the family. A great local business
Great food a even better service. One thing I might suggest is for servers to mention how many minutes to leave meat on each side for those customers who might not know/remember. They also have a great little terrace bar which stays in the sun throughout the afternoon as well to enjoy a post dinner drink.
Excellent food and excellent service. Defo go back.
Another fantastic meal.
Had a lovely steak with the added novelty of cooking it at the table, not too badly priced either.
Cant be beaten
We had a brilliant night. The safeguarding for covid is very good, so we all felt safe. Service was excellent, couldnt fault anything. We all ended up having the fillet steak and all 3 steaks were fabulous quality. The fact you cook it yourself on the hot stone meant my rare steak was cooked to perfection, but more importantly you can warm up individual pieces of steak to keep it warm and rare. Best meal in a long time, would def recommend and well be back next time were in Keswick.
Top quality meats to cook yourself
Absolutely amazing, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly
What can I say once again an excellent experience at this restaurant. The steaks that you cook yourself on the hot plates is an experience itself. The staff also are great
Lovely restaurant. Staff guided me on how to use the hot stones to get the best results. Thank you.
Amazing food and lovely atmosphere
Good food, nice staff
Fabulous food .. lovely hosts
Great experience
Absolutely horrible experience! Super rude staff!
Appalling service! Just a disgrace how they treat paying customers!
Honestly an absolute amazing place. They made me and my boyfriends date an absolute blast and we couldnt have gone to a more awesome place. I highly recommend The Sizzling Stone for their quality service, atmosphere and delicious food
Lovely place, concept and food but the service let it down for us. Sides came out 5-10 mins after the meat and my partner asked for another drink twice and it never came.
Decent quality produce cooked to your liking at the table. If youre not confident they have instructions to achieve the perfect results. Very nice wine at inexpensive prices. Staff are friendly and professional. Well definitely be back. No dogs allowed.
Enquired over the phone regarding dog friendliness. Was advised that dogs were allowed and so I made a booking. However, we got to the restaurant only to be turned away as they have a no dog policy. Fine, miscommunications do happen (although I confirmed TWICE over the phone that dogs were allowed) What I thought needed major improvement from this situation was the way it was handled by front of house. I found myself being made to apologise and being made to feel that it was entirely my fault for the fact that somebody over the phone erroneously advised me so. A part of me is glad to see you backing up your team sir, but go work on your communication tactics.
Very friendly welcome & knew who we were even though we hadn t been there before. We were on holiday but met our friends there who live locally, to celebrate my husbands 50th but. Between us we had the lamb, pork, chicken & prawns. All on the sizzling stone to cook ourselves. Everything was excellent quality & tasted amazing. Wine was lovely & the puddings were to die for. Staff were very friendly & service was impeccable. We ll definitely be booking there again 10/10 from us. Thank you to everyone at the sizzling stone.
Its quite a novel idea, go to a restaurant, buy a meal and then cook the meat contingent of it yourself. I found it an interesting/entertaining experience as your responsible for your own meal, so if you cook your steak to a well done when you wanted it medium rare, tough luck chuck!! Just to point out, they do provide instructions so you cant go far wrong unless you cant read. Really this was a 5 star experience, what got it 4 stars was down to my experience booking a table. First they asked for my card details to reserve a table, with no explanation as to why....second the person on the other end of the phone got angry when I asked why they needed my card details ( for all I knew they could have been running a scam......they werent though so all good )and then went on to berate me for the misfortune of the business due to covid. Third they then explained that due to customers either cancelling bookings or just simply not turning up they needed to have my card details so they could charge me £20 per person booked in. The staff in the restaurant were lovely, but my experience with whomever that person on the phone was soured it a bit for me......in reality I wanted to turn round and tell this person to sod her bloody table and go somewhere else but I also liked the idea the restaurant presents, cooking with a hot stone, and making something taste good myself.....some would say I can do that at home mate! and to them Id say try it and see
Sparse decor , rib eye steak tough to eat , staff pleasant but felt rushed , waiter kept clearing table too much , felt interrupted . Wouldnt go back again , too expensive, when your literally cooking your own steak
Amazing
We were met at the front door, by a very polite Scottish Gentleman who was very well prepared for our arrival and greeted us by name. Quality of the meat was outstanding. I had the mixed grill for one and struggled to finish it. Brilliant service will certainly visit again.
Absolutely loved this place Food exceptional Can t wait to come back
Great food reasonably priced too
my wife and i had a sharing platter which included pigeon and black pudding , we had the additional prawns ( surf and turf )...we thoroughly enjoyed the experience of cooking the meat ourselves ..the quality of meat was excellent. the ambience was good and the waiters / waitresses were friendly and attentive ..we thought the cost was very reasonable considering what we ate and drank...we will definitely eat here again on our nxt visit ..thankyou...
Great experience. Cook your own food on a very hot stone. Good quality meat and good fun. Well worth a try if you like meat.
Cooked on hot rocks how prehistoric brilliant
Super idea, cooking your own food on a super-heated volcanic ash stone at your table. I had the twin rump steaks, which were fabulous.
Food was good but we was expecting a more enjoyable experience not much atmosphere
Had fillet steak for the wife Ribeye for me with pepper sauce Absolutely loved the experience and the food
It OK, bit expensive
Friendly service and quite a fun experience to cook a really nice rib-eye on a very hot volcanic stone..
Meat and fish great had to wait for accompanyments
Very tasty, something interesting to expierence
Food was fantastic and the staff great
Very good food and efficient servers. Slightly overpriced but it s all fine with us. WiFi is a bit slow if anyone cares.
Good food, good service and staff friendly
Friendly helpful staff. Excellent food. Highly recommend the meat feast. Best proactive procedures in place to protect from Covid 19 that I have seen in any restaurant I have been in.
The concept was something Id never seen before and it was very enjoyably, the steaks were amazing
Was absolutely delicious
Great service, clean and safe following covid-19 guidelines. Steaks were beautiful. Only thing Id recommend is if they do a cocktail menu.
Just had a meal it was beautiful no complaints at all would definitely recommend n will b be back.xx
Great food, totally enjoyable experience
Great food and great service. The steak is fantastic!
Fantastic
Great food and a good selection of wine and very friendly service I would highly recommend to anyone.... its a great experience.
Great experience would recommend this place to anyone
Great concept and they deliver it well. We had a starter each, the sharing platter of mixed meats with some sides, and a couple of small desserts (genius to have a single scoop of ice cream or sorbet as an option, that was the only dessert we had room for by that point!) Menu isnt huge but you know what youre coming here for. Waiter was friendly and helpful.
Cooking your own steak on very hot stones in front of you was a great, unique experience and they tasted amazing too. All locally sourced and fresh ingredients gave us quality food too. Friendly attentive staff throughout the evening.
Service with a smile and generous portions. I had the swordfish and it was the nicest piece of swordfish I ve ever seen
Lovely meal. You cook your stake yourself on a hot stone at your table. Variety of sift and alcoholic drinks inc champagne. Need to book in. Enjoy
Came to Grasmere for a weekend away with my partner. Looked everywhere for a nice place to eat in Keswick. My partner is a lover of steak so I gave the restaurant a call for a table, they were more than happy to wait for us to arrive despite closing soon. We were greeted by a lovely, friendly man and were seated straight away. A young man came and took our food and drink order. We ordered our food which arrived in great time. Everything we ate that night was good quality, tasty and the whole night was just perfect. My partner hasnt stopped talking about his meal and we will definitely be back when we are next over that way. Nothing was too much trouble, thank you very much and glad to hear you are expanding! Well deserved. Bravo!
Good food with a twist.
Excellent will go again
Not the best food, quite expensive and had to cook my own meat. I am sure some will love it, but the place was very quiet compared to the rest of Keswick.
A real treat for carnivores (though there is one token veg option). You get your raw meat (steak, kebabs, etc) and a seriously hot stone, and cook it yourself. The result is gorgeous - seared with the juices kept in. Chips were lovely and crisp and dry. Wash it down with a pint of Moretti and finish it off with a lovely cold pudding, and you know youve been fed. Limited tables, not open every day, and very popular - so booking recommended.
Best food experience we had in Keswick. Friendly but not invasive service, very professional and really attentive to details. The place has all the equipment to make the self cooking experience pleasant, comfortable, fun and entertaining (every table has its own fume hood!). Food was really good and right amount, and it was also really interesting and different from standard places: lamb kebab skewers, pigeon and beef cheeks were amazing. Garlic mushrooms, sauces and dessert were outstanding. Wine was good quality and really affordable. The only unpleasant thing was the people around us cooking their meat in the most shameful way :) .
Fantastic food and great service!
Such a lovely restaurant and staff....and the food was cooked excellently (by myself) top quality meat and the sides were delicious. This is our second visit here and Im sure we will be back
Brilliant
High quality food. Worthwhile trying.
Amazing place and fantastic food, well worth a visit
Enjoyable meal hosted by a great waiter! Lucas you are a treasure
Great food and service reasonably priced. Would love to go again.
The service is friendly and there is a nice atmosphere but for me this was the only thing that makes it different from eating at home. I choose the fillet steak and my wife had the king prawns. Cooking your own meat has to be an experience that you re after. I was served a lovely piece of meat to cook myself which came with a choice of spud/chips and a choice of sauces. My wife was served king prawns on skewers and we were presented with a hot stones to cook it all on ourselves. I chose chunky chips and Stilton sauce to go with. It s always disappointing when chips are seen as a secondary part of the meal and a way of keeping cost/time low while adding more than just the main component, so many places serve up bland, tasteless, prefrozen and disappointingly texture chips and I m afraid to say the sizzling stone doesn t break the mould. The sauce came in a little jug and flopped on to the steak, it was a strong and over powering taste that left the steak as no more than a texture in its wake, It s the first time I have had this sauce it might be that it s meant to be this way. My wife was presented with 12 prawns on skewers that looked exactly like the ones in the fridge at our apartment that we got from booths and not the massive titans that I received in the local Chinese the other night, proving proof that it could be done. If we were back at the apartment we could have added something extra but we just had 12 prawn and a hot stone with no way of adding taste. (My wife is easily pleased, the proof is she married me) she was mostly happy with her meal. I want to be clear that the 3 stars is not because I made the wrong choice of places to eat and had to cook my own steak, it s because I didn t enjoy half of the food and could have done better at home with a packet sauce and a bag of potatoes. There was no salad or accompanying vegetables unless you pay extra for a side dish. The 3 stars are for the nice professional people running the place and the amazing piece of steak that was thicker than me, but the rest of the food was just making up numbers and took from the better parts of the experience.
11th May 2018. Managed to get a last minute table as a table did not arrive so we got lucky. Had the mixed platter for 2 and guest had a fillet. Meat is perfect. Excellent time had. We will be back
Enjoyed the whole experience, smashing hosts, delicious food.
Lovely steaks. Quite a fast dinning experience. Only criticism would be that your veg arrives too quickly and is cold by the time the meat is cooked. We ended up sitting the veg on the lava rock to reheat.
Without a doubt the best stake we have ever had and great value for money. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. The service was flawless. Could not recommend this place enough.
Fantastic food fantastic place and fantastic staff book to avoid disappointment
Very very very nice FOOD
Really interesting experience of cooking own meat on very hot stones; food well prepped and delicious desserts.
Lovely selection of meat and wines. Polite and attentive staff.
Beautiful food and decent quality drink, friendly staff and good service.
Nice change for a restaurant and great meat with the added advantage that you cook it just as you want it. Tables are limited so best to book early in advance.
Great service and food is excellent.lovely experience.well worth a visit be sure to book a table .
Fantastic food and service would recommend anyone visiting the area to give this a try
Excellent every time
