472 Division St, Kingston, ON K7K 2A5, Canada
Unassuming venue offering a familiar Cantonese Chinese menu with stir-fries, noodles & chow mein.
Absolutely disgusting. We think they "heated up or re-fried to warm up" leftovers. The chicken balls were almost Black. the rice was dry, egg rolls were hard as a rock, it was all bad, didn't even eat. waste of money, never ordering again. It only took 10 minutes from ordering to arrive
The food was great and the prices even better!!! Not to mention the owner is really friendly and made us feel super welcome with their hospitality. Definitely would recommend!!!
I was wondering why I heard the microwave going off and when I got home definitely not the same owners their general tao tastes like vinegar 🥲😭 miss the old owners that explains it.
stay absolutely clear of this place do not order food from here trust me. Teo chicken sauce is BBQ sauce....and absolutely full of salt.. Chicken fried rice is garbage.. Chicken wings taste like 5 month old grease.. and too top it off the won ton soup is bouillon cube made noodles we're bronze in color...lastly chicken balls tasted like wiener water soup!!!! No food stars no service stars no quality stars ✨️ $80 of a absolutely not pleasurable meal how ironic you have to put one star there in order to post it. Negative five stars
Oh! I wish I had read a review before I ordered here. This used to be such a great place! We ordered E1 and E3. Both dishes were definitely not as described. The portion was an OK size, and it seemed fresh, but when you order pad Thai or noodles with grilled pork, that's what you should get. Both dishes were a variation of a few pieces of chicken, bland sauce, roughly chopped lettuce and thick slices of cucumber. If you are not going to do it right, then please don't bother! Sorry to say goodbye, East Side village.
Very dissapointing experience. Last evening, we ordered E1 dinner × 2. According to the menu it consists of grilled pork and onions, spring roll, peanuts on noodles and fresh green. What we recieved was a small serving of boiled noodles, rawhide type white pork pieces (no grill marks), thick strips of grilled onions, a small spring roll, watered down fish sauce in a cup (strategically placed in a corner of the dish for fuller appearance ), a few peanuts, shredded lettuce and 5 thin pieces of sliced cucumber. All this for $11.95 a serving. Not my usual practice but I took a plate to show the owner and asked for a refund. Since I only brought one plate back, my refund was for the one meal. It was suggested if I wanted a refund for 2 meals , I would have to bring the other plate as well. I did not bother with the other meal. In my view, take out dinners are a treat given the economy, price of fuel and time involved. We will not be returning to this restaurant and sadly are joining the ranks of the low reviews on the website in hopes that the owners read the reviews and learn from them.
The beef and broccoli was extremely salty, that should never be salty at all. The beef was extremely boiled and grey with zero flavour. I will not be going back to eat there again. Very very disappointed.
We have eaten at East Side Village for over 5 years now. Their spring rolls are amazing, perfectly seasoned, huge, obviously homemade. Since I'm a vegetarian I order these frequently. Today we ordered for the first time in a while and received small, obviously not homemade spring rolls. We opened them up and they had little balls of meat inside. We asked for new ones to be delivered and after one delivery mistake we finally got our order (around two hours after having picked up our food). Turns out, these have meat in them too! I didn't think to check before biting in, so thanks for that East Side. We called to complain and the manager "swore to God" that the only thing in them were carrots, onions, and cabbage and she knew this because it was on the box in the freezer (seriously...... Why would you say that?). Couldn't explain whatever these were and wouldn't read the ingredient box. So. Frozen spring rolls. No quality control. Not the same East Side Village since it changed owners. Do not go here.
The food was good J Food
Incredible with old owners. Inedible with new owners. I should have listened to every single person who has talked about this place since the ownership change. They have gone from best in town to worst in town. Chicken balls were somehow both overcooked and doughy, and tasted like they were made last august. The chicken fried rice tasted like it just had its fourth trip through the microwave. They also use cheap cabbage egg rolls. Absolute GARBAGE. I dont know how they are still in business, I imagine most of the old regular customers have had their never again!! meal by now. And that one reviewer who said that they would not be refunded if the chicken balls were cut in half? Makes me think they had planned to re-use them. [Edit a year later: After seeing pretty much 100% one-star reviews aside from a couple of suspicious ones, I am convinced that this place is a front for something. There is no WAY they are getting repeat business from anyone.]
Really wish had seen all the bad reviews before ordering. Food quality and quantity was terrible. Waste of money
The food wasn t great. I was sorry I ordered from here
Amazing food hands down
The dry-fried beef river and fried noodles are delicious! The shop assistant is super nice
We used to order for East Side Village frequently, but there has been a shocking decrease in the quality. The meat was almost inedible, it was incredibly bland and overall, it was the worst takeout we ve ever had. It was really expensive for throwing out most of it. Very disappointed.
Fav Chinese food restaurant. Always friendly, food always ready on time, excellent customer service and always great at hot food.
It used to be much better, and since the change in ownership, things have fallen very far. Items taste strange or off, some things are very undercooked or overcooked, and the prices are far too high to bother ordering when the quality is as low as it is. Both times I ve tried their chicken balls, something was horribly wrong. The first, the batter was still raw in the middle, and the second, they were overdone so much I had trouble crunching through the stone-like shell of nearly burned battered chicken. Vegetables in certain dishes, namely, sweet and sour pork and general Tao s chicken, were either cooked beyond taste or only cooked enough to count as not raw , which would have been preferable I would not recommend them, there are at least 10-15 better Chinese restaurants near the downtown core, try one of them.
The worst food Ive ever ordered from a restaurant!!! uncooked rice, greasy, no taste, I couldnt even take more than 2 bites! chicken with peanut sauce turned out to be some cooked chicken with peanut butter and oil on top!!! My 4 year old nephew can cook a better dish! right in the garbage! shame!
Normally I dont leave bad reviews, but, come on. The food is just overall terrible. Sauces taste.. off.. . I order Chinese food for flavour.. sad to say this didnt deliver.
Pros: great food and portion size, great menu options and specials, you cant beat the prices on the specials, friendly service. Neutral: I believe you can dine-in but its very limited. Cons: no washroom available, the neighborhood area in general is a bit on the sketchy side but I suppose they can be chalked as part of the experience. Overall: great place definitely gotta check it out at the least.
Im just going to add in right in front . I guess the first order what to impress me. Ive never had anyone tell me its my fault that the food tasted like 10 pounds of salt dumped in . Because i have an allergic reaction to Soy. i eat food with out soy all the time. Guess what -? Its doesnt taste like salt at all. so back to the drawing board. Oh, yes and no offer of compensation My husband was sick for 3 days. I didnt eat . happy new year Wonderful. I have given up ordering or dining out even because of my severe allergies. Vegetarian options: The vegetable dish was really nice, good variety of veggies and cooked really nicely . The food had a clean taste if that makes sense. Loved it. Dietary restrictions: Allergy to soy and fruit.
My husband loves getting combo 8. Its his go to everytime.
Vegetarian options: Had the chicken balls and chicken rice. Very salty rice and way to much vinegar in chicken ball sauce. Will never return.
Excellent take out Chinese food. Its spicier and more flavorful than the other local restaurants.
Great service and tasty food! Fantastic General Tso sauce. Don t know if it s house sauce or premade but don t change it lol! Recently ordered something late night and they had run out. They immediately called to correct and I panicked and basically made up my own off the menu combo and they were kind enough to give me it! Thanks for that if you see this!
total garbage ! ..the egg roll was dry and burnt...and the rice wasnt even cooked or warm.(i was there in 10 mins. and drove home in 7 min.) and not even lukewarm, and could tell it wasnt even cooked/fried !?? ...and u could see they place a skimpy little amount on top of chicken on the rice in the container (not even fried together)?? ...and the chicken balls were dry/old/dark looking...ive had this place twice...i gave them the benefit of the doubt for the 2nd time...but never again !!!
Im actually horrified & honestly.. I love food so for this to even be something I need to make an official ..uhm w..t....h.... is this remark.... you order beef an broccoli, growing up you know my entire ... 31 years of living this blessed life to be able to explore foods from around the world its amazing..that being said. Meat is meat , no where in the world shall a color of meat change because of location you know... so Im confused as now twice Ive seen this and Ive been instantly turned off, disgusted.. felt robbed literally... my beef & broccoli.... actually made me truly to this vary moment making my review believe they must cook cat meat or Im maybe thinking they cant afford beef so substitute it w. Chicken or Im unsure... honestly, I hate having to talk badly because the servers are extremely kind.... a little bit chincy regarding the soya sauce... and Im sorry but Im paying for my food me myself & I, LOVES at the least... 10 packs of it on a $6 all day lunch platter.. can you blame a women its beyond delicious ( the soya sauce that is ) .... now Ive had 2 places serve me ** WHITE BEEF ?!?!!? ** For me, thats just not right its almost sickening.. anyone else see this ? Experience the same ordeal?!.... not to be a playa hataaarrr... BUUUTTT they could take a lesson or a few from [ V.I.P. Chinese]
We ordered a huge order the other night and nothing we got was edible. I hate wasting food but we just couldn t eat it. I ve had food from here in the past and it was probably a 3 of 5 but whatever they served this time was complete garbage. Hopefully ownership figures out what s going on because they won t be in business long with that food.
did a pickup order from the E S V on Friday evening. This place use to be the go to place for us to eat .The food had absolutely no taste and the chicken fried rice was like sand ! I could go on but I won,t . Do not buy from them as you will be disappointing. The washroom has been out of service for god knows how long !
Always went here in highschool. Old owners were amazing. New owners couldn t be bothered to put effort into this place. Half the restaurant is storage. Food was insanely bland, unappetizing and salty. We re we re served with forks that had food stuck in them. Had to get them replaced. I will never eat here again.
Love the create your own dinner deals. Good food at a good price.
Ordered a Dinner for 4 Taos Chicken - tasted like dirty dish water. The sauce was either spoiled or contaminated because it had a foul dirty taste to it. Chicken Fried Rice - best dish out of the meal. Chicken Cow Mein - WAY too salty. Could not eat it. Was like putting a spoonful of salt into my mouth. Chicken Balls - Cooked well, good size to them however the sauce did not taste well. Beef and Broccoli- Beef was almost mush, bo texture to it, sauce was bland, no seasoning and gelatinous. Veggies were crisp and fresh. Eggrolls - a little over cooked, black on the ends but were still good. Restaurant- When you walk in it looks like they are moving out. Boxes and items strewn in the once used dining room, chairs and tables now blocking off the area which is the first thing you notice when you walk in. Cashier was friendly, and food only took 10 minutes from order to pickup. Was sad to have this poor experience as I used to love this place when I lived in the area, and the food as delicious. Parking: In a strip mall.
Undercooked, awful fried rice. Wasted my money, wish I could give a 0
Worst take out food I have ever had, chicken soo guy was small pieces of something breaded and deep fried, nothing like chicken breast, Shanghai noodles lack flavor and any spice, gravy was like a bowl of salt ,no condiments, very very disappointed, never go there again.
Ordered takeout for my first time from here, & it was very delicious!! Food came hot and fresh. I will definitely be ordering again! :)
This is the second time ordering and my food was cold. We ordered a spicy meal and there was no hot or spicy stuff in it. food was cold when we picked up.
i ordered the shanghai noodles witch on there menu was supposed to to be spacey and they were not on the menu they have a chili pepper beside it and it means hot they were spicey not sweet. the chicken balls were cold and tasted like they were old and the rice was super dry and had a weird smell to it. never order from here it was the grossest thing i ever ate if i could rate it a 0 i would. In the restaurant they had pots pans and food items stored in the dineing area just laid out everywhere and had cardboard laid all over the floor that looked really dirty and oil stains all over it
Absolutely the worst Chinese food I ve ever eaten in my life. Undercooked and burnt at the same time. Everything was disgusting.
I heard this place was good a while ago but did not realize that they changed ownership. My tao chicken tasted really off and my pregnant wifes chicken balls were very under cooked and doughy. The chicken fried rice also tasted really weird and like it was days old. I wish i just ordered from VIP like we usually do but i guess we had to learn our lesson the hard way. Dont go here to eat its nasty.
Gross taste gross texture, an off putting slimy green juice pouring out everywhere. We got chicken chow mien, chicken balls, beef lo mein, orange chicken and beef the worst we have ever had our whole untouched order is in the garbage 80 dollars of garbage NEVER EVER again! The now closed Panda garden is 10 stars in comparison......update 2022 how on earth did this place survive the vid if your contemplating on ordering here *DONT* youve been warned !!!
I was optimistic that the poor recent reviews were overly nitpicky, sadly I stand corrected. Food was very bland, extremely oily, even for Chinese food standards. This food WILL ABSOLUTELY give you the runs an hour after eating. You have been warned.
The food does not meet former standards. The service was not good either. I will not be going back
Ordered food, utensils, eggrolls and sauce didnt come restaurant was no help.
We ordered take out for supper from here on May 15th as our usual place was closed....thought how bad could it be! Well, it was pretty bad, the chicken fried rice was tasteless with very small strips of chicken...more like pulled chicken! The chicken balls had so much batter on them and were so tough and chewy you could barely get through it, tried just eating the chicken inside to find it hard and chewy as well. The beef and vegetables were questionable...couldnt chew the beef. Save your money and stay away from this place!!
The Singapore noodles tasted like they had soap in them and the Tao chicken was cold and chewy my wifes rice and chicken balls were even worse never going back again complete trash right were it belongs
Food realy socks bought 85 dollars worth of food the only thing that was good was the spicy garlic chicken wings the rest hit the garbage wont be going back.
Absolutely the best food I ve ever eaten in Kingston absolutely fantastic food
Ordered through SkiptheDishes. Worst chinese food Ive ever had. Everything was dry or rubbery. The lemon sauce tasted like cleaning products. I hardly leave reviews, but this warrants one. Dont waste your money.
Chicken balls and eggs rolls are MUST, taste better than old one
Ive yet to have a decent meal here. Even when there was a 2 for 1 deal, I regretted ordering from this place.
This place shouldn t be open. Nightmarish food.
The worst Chinese food I ve ever had the lemon chicken taste like cleaner and the food is unflavourful and overpriced
Tao chicken was good beef lo mein just ok house fried rice so salty couldnt eat it ?
My favourite Chinese restaurant Excellent quality, inexpensive price and friendly service! Spring rolls and fired rice are my favorite. General Tso s Chicken is awesome!
Best wonton soup in town Very friendly staff and excellent service.
Food is amazing!
It was edible but barely. This used to be our go to chinese restaurant but the last two orders have been awful and we will no longer be going. The rice was bland and you can tell literally no seasoning was added. The chicken was disgusting and dry. The only item that was ok was the vegetable spring rolls. Not sure what happend to this place but time to find a new place to go to in Kingston.
Really greasy/heavy oil coats everything. I thought about rinsing my chow mein off but ended up just throwing it out. The rice is chewy.
Worst Chinese food experience, ever. Inedible.
Used to be good for Chinese, I ordered a combo couldnt even eat it gross wont be returning.
New owners, it sucks here now
Fried rice was bone dry and crispy, worst egg rolls Ive ever eaten, and awful customer service. Baffling how their rating is as high as it is. Dont waste your money.
Food is OK. Owner and chef really need to start upgrading the quality back to where it was before they changed ownership. Quality must be returned before we return. P.S. fix it and save your business!
Uses to order here all the time. Based on reviews i see they have switched ownership ,which explains why the food was so awful. Last time ill be ordering.
We used to love East Side Village. We moved out of town and have not had it for 2 years. The other night we ordered and I was soooo excited to eat their delicious food! I dont know what changed... the egg rolls were very small compared to what they used to be, the soo guy gravy was spicy and the flavour was off, the gen tao was really really spicy, our fried rice had so much soy on it, it was black and not very moist at all... I know a lot can change in 2 years, but it wasnt the delicious flavours we used to frequent at all! Some good takes, the chicken balls were as good and full of chicken as I remember, chow mein and pork broccoli were good!
Awesome Service and very nice staff!!! Food was amazing!!
I was disappointed that this place had come under new management. The food isnt quite the same anymore. Unfortunate.
If I could give 0 stars I would... I used to love this restaurant but everything has changed ...the sweet and sour sauce is disgusting..tastes like it has ketchup in it and the gravy was from a can and had so much pepper in it I almost choked.. then I f you call them back to inquire to why the food is the way it is ...they let the phone ring and ring and dont answer
Its been a few years since we have ordered from Eastside village. We have been hesitant to order ever since Mai (spelling?) Sold it. It used to be the best Chinese in town by far! Reading reviews that everything has changed made me nervous. So I decided to give it a try today by ordered some meat spring rolls and vegetable spring rolls. Absolutely terrible! The meat and veggie rolls were exactly the same. My wife claimed to see a sliver of meat in her roll but she cray. I never did. They also tasted off. They used to be loaded with meat. Just garbage food. Im glad I didnt waste more money buying more food. I will never return. Nor recommend this place.
Great food here, and good deals on Uber eats. The owners are nice and the service is fast too!
Awesome as usual great food and great service
Fried rice was edible, but not flavourful. Shrimp were ok. The general tao chicken was disgusting! The sauce was the worst Ive ever had in my experience with chinese food.. Probably will only get the sweet and sour shrimp if I ever decide to get food here again. Will likely avoid as much as possible though.
Not liking the order the chicken chow mein looks like chop suey and the sweet and sour sauce does have a ketchup like taste no more ordering sweet and sour things from there for me
Food was terrible. Chicken soo guy was spicy. Tasted mold in my Chicken chow mein.
Food was late and Chicken balls were not cooked super soggy called the lady at the store and she said they were cooked because she cooked them in the am! I got my order at 9pm! And she was super rude and said if I wanted my $ back to bring them to the store right away! The rice was super dry , only thing that was good was the curry chicken , only reason getting one star and got a phone call at 9:10pm saying they were closing and no refund. I do not recommend this place and the customer service is disgusting! Having pink in the middle of the chicken balls about 15 of them in two orders to me isn t cooked! Was also told to stop cutting them in half or there would be no refund for the chicken balls and I don t drive atm so I was half way to the store when I got the call and I tryed to explain that to the lady but she said I didn t make it in time so no refund and to have a goodnight! I couldn t believe it!
Not bad , chili chicken and noodle and fried rice were good but not spicy like GTA chinese places
I ordered curry beef fried rice and rice was not even cooked still very hard to chew. I got 1 big hair from the food. So unhygienic way of cooking and had to throw away all. Waste of my money. Please dont go here for late night foods they offer foods terrible.
If I could give a 0 star I totally would. The ribs were absolutely disgusting and not in honey garlic sauce (like at other restaurants they normally are). The ribs seemed pretty dried out and like they cooked the ribs and then added the sauce after the fact. The chicken balls were nasty and covered in vinegar sauce instead of sweet and sour sauce. I normally love egg rolls but there egg roles were made with lots of cabbage and tasted like oyster sauce in them. The rice was too much peas and peanut oil for my tasting...
Chicken balls not cooked at all. Tastes like filth. Spent 25 dollars and totally in vain. DONT ORDER FROM HERE I REPEAT JUST DONT.
Ive never had Chinese food this bad. Everything went in to the garbage. Chicken fried rice was days old, smelled and tasted like rancid oil. The chicken was re-used from old chicken balls and was rock hard. One bit was enough. The S&S chicken balls were not cooked through. The batter was still wet inside, and coated my teeth. Awful. Spring rolls were so salty my mouth hurts. I actually ate them, with enough plum sauce, but I regret it. I feel bad for anyone who orders from here. Waste of money. It used to be good, but the new owners obviously dont care.
Used to be my go to place, the last three times I ordered (tried a few times in case they were having off days, but no they werent) have been really underwhelming. Very bland food and really oily now, I used to order the salt and pepper prawns as they were sooo flavourful, its not the case anymore. I did not know the owners changed, now I do and it makes sense. Sorry East Side Village but I wont be ordering from you guys anymore, maybe if I didnt know better and just moved here, but since I had better, no can do.
Its no coincidence that all the restaurants in Badaro are full and the East Village is almost empty. Since the crisis it has plummeted dramatically at all levels. Its a shame. poor quality at expensive price.
Used to be our go-to place, even back to the days when they were Asian Star on Princess. Mai was the best hostess ever...Remembered my kids favourites, even if it was the very rare months between visits. My wife and I even hosted a joint 50th Birthday party for 30 people and Mai let us have the restuarant to ourselves for a couple hours. Fast forward to this year. Mai has sold the place and we have heard that the new owners have let the place go into the dumpster, so we dont go anymore. However my daughter, whos has been to ESV many times, now goes to Regi and went just because her friends were going. She couldnt finish the meal....If food wasnt over salted it was tasteless and if it wasnt burnt it was soggy... Too bad to see a once great place get cheaped out to the point where itsd a no go zone for my family.
Best Chinese food in Ontario! Edit: Mae and Peter sold the restaurant... end of an era in terms of the best Chinese restaurant
Terrible. Isnt the same place. Very disappointed. Used to be great food. Last night we ordered it and it took 2 hours. Food was cold and we didnt get any lemon sauce on our chicken that we ordered. So chicken was dry and rice was dry, brutal. Paid like $75 for cap food. I called them and no discount nothing free for next time. But thats ok cause there wont be a next time. IM OUT!!! We miss you May!!!
Great food and super staff. Theyve changed owners recently, but I think its even better than before!
Food is delish everytime. We do alot of takeout. Never disappointed!
I was very sad to learn it had switched hands, and even more saddened by the quality of the food from there now (been going there 9 years or better). The generaltaos chicken was over cooked and the sauce tastes like bbq sauce that has been poured over it. My use to be favorite dish from there is no more. They dont roast their almonds for their almond guy ding they use baking almonds and sprinkle them on this dish (it horrible) It seems that they use celery as a filler for all of their dishes. Out of all 3 of our dishes the vegetables were minimally there and the celery was way in abundance.
We used to order there regularly for years and it was the best Asian food in town. We should have paid attention to the reviews that said it had changed ownership. Their chicken fried rice which used to be delicious is not even fried rice anymore, its basically steamed rice with peas in it, chewy with no flavour. We wont be ordering from them again, what a letdown when you know how amazing it used to be.
Very fine Chinese dining place! Love it!!
Delicious food
UPDATING REVIEW FROM 5 STAR UNDER PREVIOUS OWNERS TO 1 STAR. FOOD IS TASTELESS AND POORLY PREPARED. GREASE POURS OUT OF EGG ROLLS. FRIED RICE IS INEDIBLE. SWEET AND SOUR SHRIMP ARE INDESCRIBABLY BAD. MAY AND PETER ARE MISSED BY SO MANY FORMER CUSTOMERS! Accessible restaurant with space between tables to accommodate mobility devices. Large menu with all of the expected dishes and a few surprises. Very good prices. Very nice selection of combo plates. Very friendly and fast service. Excellent food. Ginger chicken soup is fabulous and likely to soothe colds and sore throats all winter long. Great fried rice. Spicy dishes (curry, General Tso chicken) are not over-heated, but pack a punch. Singapore noodles come with a vegetarian option. Spicy spring rolls and dipping sauce are excellent. There is a delightful, kitschy mural on which to feast your eyes while devouring your food. We saw a number of take out orders processed very quickly while we ate, and are planning to make a regular detour to pick up dinner here on the way to the ferry dock.
We have ordered and ate here for years always satisfied. Not sure what happened but worst ever meal today. Spring rolls are not as remembered. Pork in my Vietnamese dish is awful.
Ordered for the first time yesterday. I gave this restaurant an overall rating of 3 stars because my fiances shanghai noodles were pretty good. I ordered the green curry tofu on rice noodles and got one the most bland dishes I have ever received from a Chinese restaurant. Barely any sauce. I felt like I was eating plain boiled noodles, less than 1/3 of the noodles had any flavour because of this. Dinner last night was super disappointing and I was really excited to try this restaurant. My rating for the green curry on rice noodles is 1 star.
Today was a sad day. We ordered our fav dish tonight and was suspicious from the first bite. I first thought the changes In the spring roll was maybe due to supply issues. It quickly went down hill from there. So disappointing to read reviews to find out that the ownership changed hand. This was our go to spot for so many years. . I will not be back. They even changed the fish sauce. So sad
They used to be a good restaurant
The food is basically inedible, furthest thing from fresh you could imagine. Do not order from here!
Since covid 19 the restaurant as steadly gotten worse this will be that last time i eat here
Absolutely awful since new owners have taken over. Don t waste your money here!
We used to get from New Garden and since they are closed during all this. We decided to try this place. We were super impressed with the flavor and massive portions!! We will definitely be getting from here again.
Everything was perfect and priced right.
Cozy .. cheap .. nice staff
All the dishes are awesome, but the price of $5 for a lunch special is unbelievable. 4 combos to choose from. Best egg rolls on Kingston.
Great food, friendly service, and reasonable price. Highlight of Kingston!
Nice place. The rice was nice ( intensionally rhymed). The place was a bit disorganized but I dont have any complaints.
Heard good things so thought Id try it. This is my first time and last time unfortunately. Rice was in cooked, and everything else sucked. Sorry for the poor review, but gotta be honest to people looking for a good meal.
Knowing there had been a change of ownership we expected our regular order to have changes. Pad thai - the noodles are wide now and overcooked, I had to actually cut them like a piece of meat to eat as they were literally like a brick all stuck together. Almost no flavour or heat. Green curry - rice was undercooked, crispy and dry. Again very little flavour Spring rolls - they tasted great and were a good size, however missing our favorite sauce
Never again! Food was garbage and I got very sick from eating it. Rice tasted like it was re-cooked. Stay away not worth the money!
Made the mistake of not noting the reviews before ordering delivery through foodhwy. Ordered a peanut chicken rice that turned out to be boiled strips of chicken and 5 spoons of peanut butter splattered on top of a lot of boiled rice. The next dish was supposed to have peanuts pineapple and chicken. No pineapple. Super bland. Third thing was a chicken red curry that turned out to be a red colored soup. Yes the portions are generous if you care to eat. I didnt. Also 2 spring rolls for 5.50? Avoid unless you know some inside ordering trick that obviously I dont.
Love love love this place. Best hot and sour soup in town.
This was my long time favorite place for Chinese food. Now I have to say I cant stand it. The food was terrible. Tasteless and chewy, and that was the stuff that wasnt overcooked. I will not eat from here again.
Our favourite Chinese food in Kingston. Been ordering from here for years. Always delicious. Their eggrolls, house fried rice and Shanghai noodles are my favourite. I hope theyve survived the pandemic so I can place an order tomorrow.
disgusting! dont waste a loony here
I ordered through Facedrive Food, it was terrible. Not recommended AT ALL
I dont normally write reviews, but I was really offended by the food I was delivered! the food was uncooked and uneatable
One of the worst chinese I have had in kingston Wouldnt recommend or eat here again. The rice was still hard and didnt taste like it had any seasoning. Noodles were bland and blah. Ill be sticking with wongs.
The best Chinese in Kingston for sure. There egg rolls are legends
Very greasie and not very good tonight.
Never again, the food was not fresh at all. I bit into something grainy and extremely salty in the Fried Rice. I ordered an egg roll and the oil was pouring out of it, changed it for a spring roll, which looked like it had been re-fried from a few days ago and again just drenched in oil. I cant understand the good reviews. The overall look of the place wasnt that great either.
Stopped here yesterday for lunch with a friend & overall food was poor at best. The egg rolls had so much grease in it when you held it up it poured out of the end. The rice consistency was as if it was days old (tough/chewy). The chicken ball batter was underdone and the Sweet & Sour sauce was a gelatinous mess. We went there based on the reviews & found out quickly the reviews do not reflect the quality of the food very well. The items we had were basic and if they cannot cook the basics this tells a customer a lot. Will never return again and do not recommend this restaurant at all.
Great food and reasonable prices! They do take a REALLY long time to prepare and deliver it though (always more than an hour). Sometimes we dont want to wait that long so we order from other Chinese places, and then we always regret it because none of the other Chinese restaurants in Kingston are as good as East Side Village. So, its very much worth the wait!
Great food
Wouldnt order from any other, by far 2nd to none.
Super tasty, affordable and good portions!
Very good food here. Must come here.
A fine place to eat. I would recommend that stupid people go at off peak times.
Called at 5.. Got told to call back half an hour later so I did then got told to call back after 6 and got hung up on.
Always great food !!
Great food
Great food and good prices
Authentic Chinese cuisine. Very tasty and fresh. Great service.
Best Chinese food in Ktown. You will not regret eating here
First time there. Food was good and the wait was quite resonable.
Awsome
Excellent chinese best ever
Horrible..
I love this place so much. Fantastic service and great food. Well worth going in any time!!!
One of the best in Kingston. The dinner combos have a crazy amount of food for a good price. Very fresh food and super nice staff!
Great food, reasonable prices, good service.
Awsome food always served fresh and hot!!! Very friendly staff/ownerS
Really good food. Excellent egg rolls.
Great Chinese food for a low price and very friendly staff.
Great value for the menu. Loads of options. Friendly service and a calm atmosphere. It is wheelchair accessible and theres ample parking space.
This may seem like a hole in the wall, but dont let it fool you, staff are so friendly and the food is both amazing and plentiful. I was so happy I tried the east side village and would not hesitate to go back again! I highly recommend E6 on the menu!
Awsome food. Owner is always smiling. You can tell she loves her job
Food good
My favorite place for Chinese
Best Asian food in the city...prices are slightly higher then most but well worth it
Absolutely glorious food. Hot fresh and no rush
Personally my favorite place for Chinese food!
Im not sure when this restaurant went from Thai/Cambodian to Chinese. I phoned in an order from the old menu. I wish they had told me that they didnt make the old menu because the food was very disappointing. It was not at all like the old menu item and I could have made something at least as good myself. I will not likely go back. Too bad.
Good food. Very affordable.
Horrible meal. It must be under new ownership. This place use to be fantastic. Horrible, flavorless, gelatinous slop.
This place used to be by far our Thai favourite in the Kingston area and one we visited on a regular basis. Was a sad day today when we went for lunch and ordered our long-standing faves only to have completely different dishes show up to the table. Not only that but the food was honestly terrible. Quite devastated to say that we will not be coming back here again.
very nice service and very sweet smile, the meal is awesome. we came from Montreal and we love this restaurant. look forward to come back again.
My favorite Chinese spot in town! Their foods always hot and fresh.
Excellent food. Quick service.
Great food and good portions! Owners are also friendly which is always a plus
I have to change my review. I think the penguins of Madagascar have purchased the east side village I cant even describe what food we got . Greasy soggy . Worst eggrolls ever. And we got sick!!! Nevermind 40$ down the drain. It went down the toilet. Im am too afraid to give this place a second chance.
Good food
I try to order something different every time, and it s always been excellent. And a very friendly staff!
Love the food and service
Service was great. Food was good. They actually close at 9 PM
Great tasty food
Great service. Very friendly waitress.
Wonderful quality food, quick and easy to order. Awesome patronage from the owners
Excellent food. However the soya sauce was quite salty.
Tried to order take-out tonight. They wouldnt substitute one chicken dish for another in one of their Dinner for Two items. I generally dont find restaurants having problems with substitutions of like items. I wonder why this was such a problem. I suppose I could have just ordered each of the items from that Dinner for Two individually with my own substitutions but that just seemed like more work than I felt their being difficult was worth. It was just easier to go somewhere else that was happier to have my business. Probably got lucky with that anyway. I previously had one of the curry dishes and it was not very good at all. Tried a second time to order here for pickup. Order was placed successfully over the phone after a Skip The Dishes order attempt failed miserably and frustratingly. When I placed the order they said it would be one hour. It ended up being 1 hour and 45 minutes with me sitting in the restaurant waiting for an hour and 5 other people sitting at home very hungry. And then they didnt get the order right and shorted us some egg rolls and spring rolls. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...
Great food in humble location.
Great place for Chinese food. Not sure if they offer really authentic Chinese dishes but the food is always awesome. My family and I have been enjoying Maes food for over 10 years. She previously owned the Asian Star (I think it was called) on Princess St. We were so excited when we heard she was back in business at East Side Village. Somehow she remembers mine and all my familys names everytime we visit, which isnt often enough to warrant that. Amazing people and food! Ill never forget the garlicky eggplant with ground pork (maybe with black bean sauce,) and the spicy salty squid. Yum.
Great food, lovely owners. Went for lunch and there wasnt much wait before our meals arrived! Highly recommend
Awesome food eat here all the time
Love their food. Tgey are pretty fast and are friendly. The only thing Im a bit disappointed with is their friend rice which us just steamed rice with soy sauce added to it then the other bits thriwn in. Otherwise everything is great!
Excellent food and very friendly service!
Excellant food
