Proudly offering authentic German/Austrian family recipes in downtown Kingston since 1992. Be sure to make a visit to the Biergarten each summer and enjoy one of our many imported German beers. A true taste of Europe in downtown Kingston.
Really fun spot for a lunch or dinner. Great Austrian delicacies in significant portions. Superb selection of beers and schnapps. Lots of great sides and sauces. I had a really noce time here every time I have been here.
First time in Kingston and Amadeus Cafe was recommended to me by a couple local people. It did not disappoint! When travelling for work, it is hard to find unique and fun, home cooked style food. Most places kind of start to taste the same after a while. Today felt like I had dinner over at someone’s house. Jäger Schnitzel was over the top!
I had such a wonderful experience at Amadeus Cafe! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed yet special meal. The food was absolutely delicious—everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. I did mention in my reservation that it was my birthday, but I’m not sure if they offer a complimentary cake or not. If they do, it may have been forgotten—but honestly, the amazing food and warm service more than made up for it. I’ll definitely be coming back, whether for a casual lunch or a celebration!
The menu is so long, there's a very large variety of food to pick from. The vegan/vegetarian option is also very lengthy. I reccommend the späztle and tofu schnitzel! Also the vibes are so nice and cozy
Went there on June 28th for our anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. The food was absolutely on point cooked to perfection, The atmosphere was fabulous and to top it all off our waitress Kennedy was amazing and so very helpful. Beer was nice and cold. Very highly recommend 👌 A+
A great German restraunt that is a Kingston staple. They have a great selection of food, including lots of vegetarian options (mainly tofu based). Their garden is beautiful and their drinks are wide in variety and well priced.
Love this place. A little pricy but the quality of their food and ingredients are great. Never had a bad meal here. Wish they were open for lunch more as I can only go on Saturday every 2-3 weeks due to work schedual. Never had a bad meal. Dad is Dutch, not German, but he said their Beef Barley soup is just like his mom used to make. And that the schnitzel tastes like what he's had back home. I have endless praise for this place.
We had a great dinner last night, and we'll be back again soon to try out some more of their schnitzel but with sauces next time 💯. The service was excellent (thanks Abby) and the atmosphere was perfect! It is a perfect place for date night in a small comfortable Cafe🌙 💯. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone 👌.
We went there for the German Christmas market, not regular dining hours, but the food was not made properly regardless. After having missed the Deutsche Christmas market last year I finally went this year with my mother, and I must say this was hands down one of the worst Christmas markets, German or otherwise, I have ever went to. Out of all the trinkets for sale nothing was really traditionally German, the line to go through was an hour and a half long, and I got a tummy ache from the pathetic excuse for German food they handed me. Absolutely disappointed and never again. The Germans, Austrians, and Bavarians over in the homelands would shake their head in disappointment. Sorry but this was highly disappointing. Never again. Please try to greatly improve this for the future, so people dont get the wrong idea and think thats how it truly is in Europe
Very good quality and price
Absolutely lovely! So delicious and really great atmosphere with all the little lights
Love this restaurant. Good service. Amazing food and beer. Not rushed. Highly recommend the Hollondai.
Another great meal. Service is on point, food is fabulous. Look forward to our next meal at Amadeus. Great job.
Top notch German cuisine. The Pfeffer Schnitzel is worth the trip downtown.
My wife and I are foodies and travel the world eating. We recently went to Switzerland and had a Michelin star rated Schnitzel. I can honestly say that the schnitzel here is as good as that one and at a quarter the price. Truly a gem in Kingston. It is an absolute must! The portions are so large you ll get to take home a second meal too!
If youre a beer drinker you will love this restaurant. The food is hearty and filling with portions being quite large. Go with the Jägerschnitze and the house salad. Last time I ordered Pfeffer Schnitzel it didnt come with the carrots or veggies like the menu listed. Not a huge problem the portions were huge.
The owner (the woman ) doesn t have any respect to the customer , customer asks for no bacon in the Cesar salad and there it is bacon , she goes can t you put the bacon aside and eat it ?? Well we no , she has allergies, never brought the salad back with no bacon .., i asked no carrots instead i want red cabbage , we asked for refill they it s extra we sure np , they never brought, we asked separate bill , they never did they did manually, and give wrong to total to me and the other person!! Worst experience ever!! I wouldn t recommend!! Customer service by the owner is big fat zero !! Specially you are travelling, and your friend recommends you to go there !! And experiencing this Welll if you want to have your worst day of your life by closing your restaurant, i can post the video and call the Ontario health board .the way you talked to us and the salad picture that was still full ! By all means it will be very bad !! You are a such a liar !! You weren t fixing anything you were putting the chairs in their places and you didn t wanted to hear us !! And after that i called the restaurant asking for the manager and yet you said yes this is the owner, and i asked very nicely if is it possible to come to the back at the patio you hang up on me !!! Very respectful to the customer!! Shame on you !! We weren t expecting anything but respect!! You have no respect ,i have a business too i know how to deal with customers!! Apparently you don t, that why on dinner time your whole restaurant was empty and in the patio was only 3 tables of twos!! It wasn t even busy to make a mistake but wait not only one mistake but so many mistakes!!! the waitress takes the order written on a paper !! There is no way for her to make mistakes only the kitchen will make mistakes .. i can go on and on posting the video!!! But you know what specially when you came back to fix the light of the patio the light fell and broke on the ground while we were still sitting beside it everywhere was glass !! I didn t even complain for that because while ppl sitting, you decided to fix that and not thinking about customers sitting around they might get hurt if the light bulb breaks, and yet when it broke , i was kind enough that i said you should get the solar lights from Costco because it s on sale and the lightbulbs are not glass and it s LED , you said I DON T i want to talk to you or argue !! After all that you being bad to us i still thought about you being nice !!
I had previously posted positive reviews as I have been enjoying Amadeus for many years. Tonight we had a reservation for the patio which was an option with Amadeus on line booking option. The confirmation reservation email stated We will do our best to get you into the Biergarten. There sometimes is a short wait . When we arrived on time we waited 15 minutes standing at the door and then we were seated at the (empty) bar in a vacant enclosed dining area where we waited another 30 minutes. We were advised there should be a table available shortly on the patio so we continued to wait. The restaurant owner then advised us we don t really have a patio reservation and we were informed there is no guarantee even with a patio reservation lol. OMG if you don t reserve the patio, or do nnot even have the integrity to honour those reservations, just say so and we will gladly go elsewhere!! Your booking is so misleading, to entice the customer with something you have no intention of providing. The owner is way beyond rude and entitled when she advises you you have no reservation after you have waited almost an hour already!!. Having our last dinner at Amadeus right now. Reservation at 630, appetizer finally served at 745 just wow. We wouldnt mind except for the very unpleasant confrontation and scolding from the owner, a new eperience for sure lol. Thank god our server Vivian is beyond fabulous! She kept apologizing for everything that is not her fault! The owner could learn a lot from Vivian! Never again Amadeus .bye bye.
I go here more often than I care to admit! Hahaha. The food is excellent and it has an atmosphere that you feel you could sit in for hours and hours. I highly recommend Amadeus.
I have eaten here now a total of 3 times and have had excellent service and food every time. My friends, family, and myself have loved every single thing we have tried on the menu. Always try the soups! The soups are always the best!!!
Excellent service, tasty meal and reasonable prices. We ate in a little beer garden in back...nice atmosphere on a beautiful summer night! Food
Service was not good. We felt rushed and when we got our orders, one was wrong. They seemed more concerned with table turnover than customer service. Also the gravy tastes like a package from the grocery store. Will not return.
Been coming here since 1992 and never disappoints.
Fantastic all around
Booked a reservation for 7:00 on the patio. Called to confirm 30 mins before and the person on the phone confirmed both the reservation and the patio. We showed up and they said they had no spot for us and wouldn t tell us how long it would be. Very disappointing since the food and service is amazing! My family has been going here for years and has never had a problem. Seems like very poor management. Idea: put on your website that you cannot guarantee patio seating and tell your staff to confirm that over the phone!!!
I took 3 friends for dinner and everyone was impressed with the menu, the service and the meal. Stand outs were the carrot salad, the spaetzle, the schnitzel, the black Forest cake, the chocolate mouse cheesecake and the coffee, both caffeinated and decaffeinated. Highly recommend making a reservation, sitting a spell and enjoying the good food. Vegetarian options: They have vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: They were good about ingredient lists when asked and willing to make changes to accommodate dietary restrictions.
Great restaurant if you miss home. Delicious soup and fresh salad as a starter and a hearty main course with authentic German dishes. The only deductions in the B grade are for the spaetzle, which tastes better back home in Swabia .
Excellent place for traditional German food
Had the chicken paprikasch, pretty good.
Quality food, an amazing atmosphere and wonderful service, what more can be said
Outstanding food on a lovely dog friendly patio with charming service at a reasonable price. What more could you ask for?
Always delicious, authentic food and drinks. Service is always friendly too. Smoked salmon today, a late lunch. Perfect. Parking: Pay and display parking lot behind restaurant off of Montreal St. Rear entrance to restaurant directly from lot.
Amazing experience with Jordan, her first day and she was a natural. Great gal, great service.
Fabulous service from Jordan. Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. 12/10!!
Good German cuisine for a fair price. We were really happy to eat something we knew again. There are also some vegetarian schnitzels on the menu. I can only recommend it.
We visited this restaurant 20 minutes prior to closing. Yet we were welcomed to dine in. After a long day driving into town and touring the Kingston Penitentiary, we were tired and famished. We were grateful that we were not turned away. We ordered the Amadeus platter to share (pork schnitzel, smoked pork chop, 2 sausages, sauerkraut and potatoes). The portions were generous and delicious. There was enough for take away. The lovely server made us feel so welcomed and did not rush us. We highly recommend this restaurant for its delicious German Austrian cuisine.
Will definitely be back
Great beer garden with good beer and great food.
Overall okay experience, food was delicious but witnessed an altercation between a manager and some servers. Consider both respecting your employees and your patrons. Hard to watch and sad for them. Hopefully things turn around because the food is incredible!
This German restaurant changed my mind of German food. I tried German food in Germany before and didn t like it, but everything I tried in this restaurant is so good. I wasn t hungry when I came in the restaurant, but the more I ate the food the more I love it and I wanted more! Love the decoration in this restaurant as well.
A real gem. Beer garden with charm. Schnitzel, bratwurst, excellent beers on tap.
Bustling on the weekends but quieter mid week. I absolutely love the Chicken Paprikash. So good. The restaurant is split into 3 sections. A secret outdoor patio tucked into the back, a back area suitable to book for small gatherings, and the quaint front dining area and bar. Service is friendly and knowledgeable and the food is delicious.
Just delicious Bavarian food made with from scratch. Highly recommend the pepper schnitzel. Nice to have a starter included and the apple strudel for desert was divine
Absolutely the best dinner experience. I have been to Amadeus Cafe 3 times now and have not been disappointed. Food is always delicious and service is excellent. Don t have to wait long for food or drinks even when it s packed! Highly recommend anyone who is looking for good food and service check out Amadeus Cafe. I will definitely be going back.
Excellent food. Probably the best restaurant in Kingston. Highly recommended.
Best German food Ive had in a long time. Good service, and the prices are fair.
Food great service great
One of our favs! The Jager is so good!
I came in with some friends for dinner and had an amazing time! While the food was great our server Hannah made our experience over the top! Will definitely be back and ask for her as our server
Absolutely loved our dinner here! The schnitzels are delicious and so filling, the ambiance is lovely... definitely my familys favourite restaurant in Kingston that we have visited so far!
Great atmosphere and great food.
Most amazing service and food its our favorite!
Authentic German food with excellent service and warm ambiance.
Went for a birthday and oh my god, the food was absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend to go there and try their food and drink.
Great food, staff were pleasant.
We spent weeks in Germany in December and ate well, but we have to share - the food tonight was significantly better than anything we ate overseas. We had the Octoberfest sausages and schnitzel tonight - along with delicious salads, potatoes, spätzle and of course beer and dessert. The service team was phenomenal too - thank you Hannah and Susan! Definitely order the chocolate cheesecake. We have decided this is our new favourite restaurant!
Awesome staff, great meal and good company
Only place for schnizel in Kingstom
Schnitzel the way it should be! The strudel was excellent too. Will be back.
Was placed right at door ask to move would not move us we froze place is overpriced
Very good restaurant. Everything was fine
Amadeus Café is a Kingston institution that has been around for many, many years. There s clearly a reason why! Definitely a Kingston gem that you need to visit.
Love love the food and service.
One of my all time favorite spots in Kingston! Amazing European cuisine with the friendliest service. The restaurant makes you feel as if your dining in Europe.
Heaven! Just Heaven! But it has recently become more expensive.
Great food and a variety of German beer
Visited in early February and the restaurant was busy - would recommend calling to reserve. Food and service were excellent.
Parking: Easy and convenient. Recommended dishes
The food was excellent but so much. Wonderful atmosphere. We could chat at a normal level and hear one another. Will definitely be going back.
Great German food and beers
Authentic Austrian food. Schnitzel at its best.
Last minute choice for a place to eat. They managed to squeeze the two of us in without reservations. Both classic and tofu schnitzels were amazing. Will definitely return again. Vegetarian options: Lots of Tofu Schnitzel options.
Meh food, great server, liked the atmosphere. Good beer at a decent price.
Wonderful staff made room for my moms surprise birthday dinner! The food is top notch! Best food I have had in a restaurant ever!!
Great food, great service, and schnitzel options galore.
Had a delicious birthday dinner there. Excellent food, service was great too. Everything was just perfect. Including the draft beer with my black Forest cake. Definitely return
Best German restaurant in Ontario food was delicious the only bad thing is that it took 1 to 2 hours for my food to be made
Biergarden is sweet. Interesting beers from Germany. Good food I would return happily
Parking: Use the parking lot on Montreal street. It has access directly to the back door/back patio. Free parking Sundays or after 5:30pm Food
Love the food. Service was great.
Our first time,it was very good. Tasty food, good portions, great fast service. Food
I had the junior schizel. It was great.
Nice place, lovely patio, large menu, food was good, would return.
Great food if you like traditional Bavarian style meals and a full litter of German beer
Schnitzel, soup and beers were great! Service was fantastic as well! Food
Great German food. Had an awesome dinner. Waitress was very friendly and did her job well.
Had my grandfathers 99th birthday party there. Everything went great, they made him his favourite schnitzel that was not on the menu. He said he wants to come back for his 100th.
Great German spot! Authentic German food and beverages. The spatzel is done correctly here, and fantastic potato pancakes. Awesome food combos.
Bring your appetite - servings large to enormous and good. Must try the starter of boiled egg with horseradish sauce, smoked salmon & caviar. A bit on the noisy side.
Food is not very typical bavarian, but decent. Service can be very slow and poor. Great beer and patio in the back.
Traditional German food. Hardy and filling. Try the Jager Schnitzel.
Look, I dont know much, BUT if you like German food, this is a must. If you have heard of The Black Forest Restaurant in Hamilton (our favorite) Amadeus is our new favorite while in Kingston. Goulash soup a must... Enjoy.... Roy from Hamilton Food
Specializing in German cuisine, this restaurant serves hearty portions of sausages and snitzels. The service is friendly and the food tastes good. The prices are reasonable too. Cleanliness, however, leaves much to be desired; we had to hunt around for clean silverware and the floor was filthy under our table.
Great selection of German, beers on tap, and the service was excellent as well. However, it was very disappointing otherwise. For example, the Bretzels tasted like they were store-bought and extremely salty. The Jaeger schnitzel had a gravy made up of powder, or at least that s what it tasted like. The Spatzle had a good texture but next to no flavour as well. A very poor example of German cuisine.
Food was not great. The only thing that tasted ok was the soup.I would not call that a Schnitzel what they got there ....(my wife ordered that and i tried it) I am from Europe and have tried these foods many times before... My Gulasch was very salty and not spicy enough . Would not come again....
Darling setting. Get sausage and beer and salad!
Beautiful ambiance, friendly staff, and delicious creamy food. Best German restaurant in town. Must go here and try their dish.
Absolute must go and try!! Large portions. Food
We love the food. As we went in the summer, we stayed on the patio and it was really nice. Excellent service and very tasty food. I recommend!
Amadeus Cafe is an old favourite from my college days. I took my family there for a peasantfeast (bauernschmaus) and schnitzel during a trip to Kingston last week and the food was as good as I remembered from twenty years ago!
Jager schnitzel was amazing and Emily was a fantastic waitress. definitely worth the stop!
Wonderful meal. Our favourite restaurant but the apple strudel was disappointing. Nothing like it used to be.
Loved the ambience of the back patio. The food was excellent and the service friendly. They have amazing schnitzel!
A gem in Kingston thats easy to miss on Princess St but should not be missed if youre looking for delicious Austrian/German food. We love it here!
If ur looking for authentic German food this is the place for u it takes a while to make to food but that means it fresh and healthy from sausage to pretzel to snitchel it rules the field of German restaurants it has a amazing patio
Came for dinner and got the Pfeffer schnitzel. The schnitzel was delicious, the gravy was great, a little on the salty side but not so bad as to be off-putting. The spaetzle was also quite good with the gravy, the carrots felt a little like an afterthought but they were fine. Also got a chance to try a bite of the paprikash which was delicious. The prices were reasonable, a good and reasonable portion for the price without feeling excessive. Service was good especially given how busy it was. Definitely make reservations.
We often celebrate special occasions at Amadeus. It has great food, large portions, excellent pricing and the staff are always steller. However, I could do without the cowbell every few minutes. It was especially annoying tonight. We had to halt our conversation and wait until it was done before we could continue. We will return but will ensure we sit in the back.
Absolutely recommended restaurant. The waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. We ate Jägerschnitzel, with homemade spaetzle (Knöpfle) and vegetables. The food was great. Classical music plays in the background. I recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes to eat German dishes.
Great food and drink. Would recommend highly.
For several years now, whenever we visit Kingston, Ontario we go to Cafe Amadeus. My usual order is their Rouladen and Spätzle. Absolutely delicious! In the Summer their backyard patio lends a great atmosphere to a wonderful German meal experience.
A beautiful outdoor seating area, friendly staff willing to make recommendations, including what items were gluten free. Loved the food, my only regret is that my visit to town is short and I cant eat there again. If youre looking for GF food, this is a great choice! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
Food was great, but we had to wait a considerable time to get seated at our reserved table, the room we were in was very warm and poorly aerated and the waitstaff very rarely came to check in on us.
I adore this place. However, I ordered the goulash and the meat was a bit tough. I mixed in potato dumplings and sauerkraut and had a real tastebud party, it was wonderful. It reminded me of my Omas cooking and my trip to Germany/Austria/Vienna and the cuisine. I missed the music. One of the best restaurants in Kingston. If only they served pierogies!
Food is good but very slow service. Waited 2+ hours for food.
AMADEUS HITS A WRONG NOTE! Very disappointing experience. I had a reservation which was confirmed by the Restauranteur. Prior to my time for arrival, I was contacted by the Restaurant and asked to move my reservation an hour later. I agreed. The Restaurant confirmed the revised time. Upon arrival on the revised time to the minute, I could see the Restaurant was very busy. There is no vestibule or foyer after the front door so we were necessarily standing beside several occupied tables. There was no Maître d Hotel or Reception person. Several wait staff moved about serving the tables less than two feet adjacent to me as my party waited. No one acknowledged our presence. I felt as if I was invisible as several Servers passed in front of me and beside me oblivious to my existence. After standing there for eleven minutes ( actual time not estimated) trying not to be intrusive on the diners sitting at tables beside me, a woman approached us and started to tell us we had to go outside because we were blocking the door. I told her we had a reservation and we were waiting for a table. The woman turned and walked away without saying a word. She returned four minutes later, asked us our name and then she told us to walk to the back of the Restaurant, turn right at a hallway and turn left into a dining room where we could find a table. We followed her instructions and seated ourselves. It seemed unusual to all of us that she did not lead us to the table. We waited another ten minutes for a Server to bring menus to our table. The Server was friendly and polite. One person in our group order potato pancakes from the menu and others asked for Rostii also from the menu. A few minutes later, the Server returned and told us the Restaurant was out of potatoes we were asked to make alternate choices from the menu. Three people in our party asked for one or another of the several chicken schnitzels on the menu and another asked for Rouladen which is supposed to be a beef dish. Once again a few minutes later, our Server apologized that the Restaurant was out of chicken and also out of beef . After a discussion among ourselves for a few minutes we decided not to play deal or no deal with the menu and we decided to leave without ordering for a third time. The Server was embarrassed and apologetic. Clearly, she was not to blame for anything, but whoever pretends to own or manage this restaurant has a lot to learn about staffing the front end, particularly when the space is so small and he needs to learn the basics of managing stock inventory since he was unable to provide at least four different plates featured on his menu. Potatoes chicken and beef are not subject to seasonal availability. I do not know whether the food is any good or not, but I will not be returning to find out.
For 30 years Amadeus was my favourite restaurant in Kingston, outstanding food and generous portions. Last night however, for the first time in those 30 years, I unfortunately left the restaurant hungry. We noticed on reading the menu that the prices had been increased, understandable given given the effects of inflation and staff wages. Our past experience told us that whatever the cost it would be worth it. We ordered and waited with great expectation for our meal. What a surprise when our meal was served and we were presented with a portion that can only be described as children sized. About 3 ounces of schnitzel, half a carrot cut into toothpick size and 2 tablespoons of sauerkraut that I paid extra for in place of potatoes. No bread was offered. To increase prices and decrease portion size is nothing more than greed and avarice. Amadeus, under this management is no longer on my list of favourites. Goodbye.
Great staff and great food.
Absolutely fabulous family dinner.
Wow! What a great experience. As a Western European I felt right at home eating at Amadeus! The food is great, and portions are reasonable! The beer is also very good
Food poor quality, waitress not very knowledgeable
The food is excellent here, had schnitzel and cider...will definitely come back
Lose the music! Cant hear yourself think. Food and service is great but will not return until music is gone. Restaurant is too small.
Have been here twice and the food was amazing both times. Had the Ham hock most recently and it was 5/5 delicious and massive. Will be going back to get it again for sure!!
Got the platter for two - it surprisingly had a lot of food! My boyfriend and I loved the pork chop it was soft and tender. I would recommend coming here with an empty stomach so you can finish the meal off, but they do give doggy bags in a plastic container.
This is a late post. My family and I had gone to Amadeus Cafe 2022, food was great, service was good. Went back this year in early August to take our son out for his birthday dinner, the Cafe was his choice. We were unable to reserve table by phone due to problems getting through. (Started calling at 4pm when they opened). We arrived at the Cafe about 4:15 pm to make reservation in person. I was told by the staff member that was at the front counter to stop back about 6:40 pm and since it was a weekday and not very busy we wouldnt need a reservation, he was very pleasant. We shopped around the area for a while and arrived back at the Cafe at 6:35 pm. We stood at the counter area in the front of Cafe for about 10 min. waiting for some one to acknowladge we were there. When staff approached us and asked if we had a reservation, I told them what we were told by the staff earlier and this staff member was quite unpleasant and asked me who had told me this( I had no idea since the person prior didnt introduce himself) he then said there were no open tables the rest of the night. We dont live in the area so Im not sure what occurred between the year 2022 and 2023 but some of the staff should be retrained on how to communicate with the customers appropriately and others should take reservations when someones attempting to get a table. No way I could rate the food this year as we never even got that far. Again I had been there the year before and food was great, service was slow but good. This year I couldnt possibly recommend going there anymore. Good food doesnt make up for poor service.
Sadly, the restaurants ventilation system is so bad that I have to wash all my clothes because I smell like fried food. I will have to wait until patio season to return. I enjoyed my dinner but the restaurant was really noisy and we had a hard time hearing each other at the table.
A great little place. Excellent German food. Unique!
Food and service was excellent, they were able to accommodate my wife as she is a celiac. Many thanks Beer was good. Dietary restrictions: Were able to accommodate a celiac. Make sure you let them know when you order. Parking: Parking is behind the building. There is a city parking lot there. Free on the weekends.
One our favorite places to eat! Authentic German food very well done. Small place. Not a chain and it shows. Very friendly and welcoming. Food : 5/5
Good food at good portions and beer by liter. All at a market price. What more to say.
Very authentic and excellent food. Staff are fantastic.
Kingston institution known for great beer and amazing German food. One of the best patios in town.
We had a great diner: we ordered 3 different schnitzels and all were great and arrived promptly; the server was helpful and the patio was lovely on a warm evening. We ll go back again when visiting Kingston!
Rouladen, schnitzel, paprikash, all wonderful. Great beers. Sit in the patio area.
A few bumps on the way but a good meal. Seven of us went to dinner; one entrée was missed, so the rest of us had pretty well finished when it came. The server did waive the charge for the missed entrée. Soup of the day was presented as mushroom soup, but it was chicken soup when it made it to the table. The Pfeffer Schnitzel was very good featuring a healthy size piece of pork. Chicken Paprikasch was also very good.
Excellent food, excellent staff and very nice ambiance.
First time visiting from out of town, friends made a reservation table for 8. We were seated in the front area of the restaurant which was very dark and dated however the back is a beautiful garden setting. Food was very heavy but tasty, unfortunately one of our groups meal was forgotten. The server made it right but only after I asked.
This place has great German food and beer. The wait staff is friendly and go out of there way to be helpful
Beer and food are great. Secret patio was delightful. Reservation ahead of time required.
Enjoyed a delicious schnitzel dinner with friends
This was our second visit and the food was very good first time and even better this time.
I loved this place and it will remain my best restaurant of my trip! Be careful, the cook stops at 8:30 p.m. and closes the kitchen but everything is perfect and excellent service!
DELIOUS!! Beer and food was amazing.
Great food for a good price!!
Great food, great atmosphere. A must visit while in Kingston. The selection of beers are very different!
Best Schnitzel I have ever had.
Great food, fast service and delightful staffs!!
Wonderful Jager schnitzel but missed the bread they used to serve with the meal, will enjoy our next visit
A bit of Austrian cuisine heaven.
What an awesome experience on the Amadeus patio! A jewel of a spot in the heart of downtown Kingston. I had the Holstein Sheitzel in the photo and was absolutely satisfied with the taste and portion. Come hungry if you want to tackle this bad boy! Loved the German beer selection as well. Definately recommend.
We are happy we decided to try this place. The soup was a great start and had the Jager schnitzel. It was really good. We didnt leave room for desert but the options sounded inviting. Our server was also very informative and helpful. We would love to return when we visit Kingston again.
Ok where to start...just go here order anything on the menu and youll realize just how incomplete your life was until that moment. Just unbelievably good food.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, highly recommend if you re looking for German and Austrian dishes! It s best to make a reservation instead of just showing up, it s often busy.
Nice atmosphere, pretty good schnitzel, awful curry wurst. Zeguener schnitzel was mostly canned tomato sauce. Some odd menu items: soup of the day was split pea, in a German restaurant?! Cheesecake was good. Nice selection of German beers on tap.
Great experience here. They have some delicious vegetarian/vegan options! And we loved their back patio area. Theyre dog friendly and let us bring our dog out back to sit with us during dinner. Thanks for the lovely meal! Vegetarian options: They have a dedicated vegetarian menu, with at least one vegan option marked. Our server said some others could be made vegan as well.
Great atmosphere for Oktoberfest and a special menu. Service was efficient and friendly from the staff and food is quite good. Portion size is generous and value for quality / size is excellent. A nice place for European traditional food.
Great service. The Holindia was delicious. Keep The Octoberfest Beer. It is the best beer on the menu.
I want to eat everything on the menu - pure delight
Food was good, as usual , but the hostess( older lady, long salt and pepper hair- wish I took her name down) was less than professional. We had made a reservation 4 weeks prior and upon checking in we were given a table right at the front of the house, a spot where people waiting to be seated would line up. I asked to be moved to another table and was told by the rude hostess that she has no other tables since all of them were reserved days in advance. When I pointed out that I myself had made the reservation weeks , not days, in advance , she concluded well you did not reserve a specific table and this is what I have for your group of 4. We were 5 . She clearly had no idea what she was talking about. I insisted and told her we are willing to wait for a more private table and her response was this is the table I can give you and if you dont like it you can go to another restaurant. Wow Normally , any person would leave after such a comment , but our kids were hungry and tired and we decided to take the table and stay. Our server was lovely with one exception, though : we ordered 4 apple strudels but were told 5 minuted later that they only have 2. No problem. What we were actually brought was what appeared to be one apple strudle cut into two. My husband got the end with no apples whatsoever. This is when I drew the line and said I will not pay for his strudel. In hindsight, I should not have paid for the other one either, at least not full price anyways. What was also quite evident was the fact that the local folk got preferential treatment over us, visitors passing by. This experience made us decide not to ever return, although we have dined here quite a few times in the past 5 plus years and we enjoy the food. This right here , is a perfect example of unprofessional, rude staff ruining a good dining experience and loosing clients in the process.
Good food. As with everywhere a little more expensive
Not much to look at on the outside but do go on in. The restaurant goes way back on the inside. A nice cozy feel to it. The food is traditional German and FANTASTIC! It had been a long while since Id enjoyed a REAL German dish. I literally savoured every morsel! The prices and servings are great. I highly recommend it! A-1 in my humble opinion. FIN.
Good beer and great backyard patio
If you want to eat German. You should go to Amadeus Cafe...
We were sooo excited to try this new cuisine weve never had before! Went in at 8pm on a Saturday and got a table right away. The ambiance was perfect for a quiet date with my boyfriend. The beer was delicious. We had one of the tofu schnitzels with the daily soup. The soup was amazing and so was the tofu! Great combinations of ingredients, perfectly cooked veggies and the portions were super satisfying. To top it all off, it wasnt very expensive compared to other places! The service was great as well. Will for sure come back and recommend. Vegetarian options: Many delicious options with tofu (there is a whole page for vegetarian meals). Dietary restrictions: Good vegetarian and I think even vegan options. Wheelchair accessibility: Spacious and no stairs if I recall correctly.
My husband and I planned to have our date night here last week; we have gone before and loved the food. When we showed up there was confusion over our reservation as our table had been given to someone else (we arrived 5 minutes early so it was not because we were late). It wasnt a big deal, a bit annoying, but nothing to get worked up about. However, after we were seated we waited another 15 minutes with no service. No one even spoke to us. We were not given water, told someone would be with us shortly or acknowledged in any way. So we left. Wonder if they even noticed? Needless to say we were extremely disappointed.
Tofu schnitzel?!? Thank you so much for having such a diverse and tasty vegetarian menu! Ive never been able to enjoy German food like this before, thank you so much!! Great wine and beer as well, highly recommend. Vegetarian options: Amazing vegetarian and vegan options, huge section of the menu with many delicious options! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free menu also available with many delicious options, highly accommodating of dietary restrictions! Cant recommend these folks enough for putting so much effort into being so adaptable!
For an authentic german cuisine experience - the type grandma makes - Amadeus is a home run! Simple, hearty, delicious!
Rouladen was dry and overcooked. Weiss wurst was undercooked.
Ive dined here a few times (and will definitely go back again). They prepare the tastiest, real German food Ive had in years. Their Schnitzels cant be beat! Veggie sides are always al dente and flavourful, and their soups are warming and delicious, especially on a cold day. Service is always great, too! Plus the prices are quite reasonable.
Food and service was great
Confirm your reservation before going and Don t use social media for a reservation is what I was told, phone or email is best, seriously it s 2022 , lol! Don t enable social communication if your not going to utilize! Sadly, we can t give a review of the food as my reservation was not logged in the book at the front , but it was acknowledged via Facebook messenger. We arrived and they had no table available, there was not tables but we where told the kitchen can t keep up. I can comment that communication was quick however quick to tell me how I could have prevented this very embarrassing situation as we had out of tow guests who came just for the German Market and meal. I was advised that always phone or email for reservation, which made me feel that it was my fault our reservation was not logged . The message back to me felt like they were trying to deflect , own up to the mistake , apologizing and offer the customer a better experience to get a good rating . , I got 2 out of the 3. The message I received said , we ll discuss the situation and ways to prevent this at our next meeting. What s to discuss, someone screwed up and with social media communication you can see who was logged that day as the date and time is on my message . Not rocket science.
Absolutely the best restaurant in Kingston. Family owned and operated for 30+ years in the same charming location. I ve been a regular customer for the past five years since discovering it myself. I ve yet to leave disappointed. The food is consistent, perfect portions, priced accordingly and always piping hot! Oh, and delicious! If I recommend any restaurant to Kingston visitors it s always Amadeus. Keep up the fantastic charm Brian! If you re lucky enough to visit during Oktoberfest be sure to try to pork hock platter.
I hadnt experienced Amadeus for a while, but recently got take out for my birthday dinner. The food was amazing and the portions were generous. Will definitely be going back.
Good Food. Great Beer. Friendly service. Cozy and comfortable for nice lunch or dinner.
Its the absolute best Mozart themed restaurant in town!
