Copper Penny in Kingston

Ordered a Greek salad, got sent home with a large container of spring mix garnished with a few veggies. I do not understand the point of putting a simple/classic item on a menu and not bothering to do it correctly, let alone well. Do not order the Greek salad. That said, the fries remain clutch and the staff is pleasant, so 4/5

I absolutely crave the food from here sometimes. it s all just like good, homestyle cooking and classic Canadiana. Haven t had a single thing off the menu I didn t like. the staff are all wonderful and helpful and will go the extra mile for things as seemingly minor as a cup of au jus. I would only ever complain about there not being a presence on any food delivery apps. though, it s no skin off my bones to make the effort and just get take out. it s worth it

I had the 21$ penny club = over priced and cold inside. Supposed to be turkey and ham inside = yes it was that but from sandwich cold cuts not real turkey meat ?! 12$ onion rings which were greasy and 10 rings only Wife had a cold steak sandwich at 24$ wasted 100$ (with tip) for a waitress that complained about trump to the customers ! I was there Saturday evening, the 9th of November 2024 A lot of restaurants in that area, please consider another one than this one. Management is too blame, the employees do what they are told. Waitress that served us was just wearing that title, she was not up to par for the food industry... Eat elsewhere for decent food for similar prices. I do not like to post bad reviews but this one could not pass by without it. Sorry

Horrible food. The fries tasted like fish. When asked if they cooked the fries in the same oil as fish, they confirmed it. For people who are not fish fans this was a horrible experience. Then the bill came and they couldnt even remove the fish fries off of the meals. I asked them to do it and the did remove the fries. Only reason why a gave a small tip. Not worth your time and money unless you are a young adult who doesnt have fully formed tastebuds.

We have not been here in many years. It was great to go back. The menu is large and similar to what we remember. Food was hot,tasty and very good portions. Very glad we stopped in. Our server Grace was very friendly and attentive. Good job Grace. Thanks for a good time.

Went for takeout yesterday. Amazing staff that still took care of me even though I was there for a short time. They double checked if I wanted cutlery and stuff and offered water. The food was piping hot. Fries were great but a bit too salty for my taste. I would want to ask for less salt next time.

It s actually unfortunate as this place used to be a wonderful, locally owned restaurant within our lovely community. Your Cheddar Chicken Sandwich used to be $15 on your menu, and you now think you can charge $20.65 for the same thing. As great tasting as it is.. it s a sandwich. What a shame, I ll never support this local business again. What a slap in the face to its local community. Wish you guys all the best, hopefully you don t close down like your other location. The food was very salty. The quality of the food is very ordinary.

I had fish and chips at this restaurant. The batter on the fish was too thick for my taste, and the fries were overly salty. However, the portion sizes were generous, and the service was friendly.

The food was not really something special, and I was surprised to be charged for hot sauce. It didn t meet my expectations.

Overpriced. Fish and salad with one beer came to $45 with tax and tip. The fish was more like fish flavored bread, deep fried too long, accompanied by a salad apparantly prepared in a fury. Terrible value, poorly prepared.

Copper penny is hands down my favourite place to get food wether it s done in or take out, the food is amazing and the staff is always so nice, especially today I had a great conversation with the waitress. I would have given 5 stars immediately except for one thing, I found out this morning that they removed the breaded mushrooms from their menu,, I was almost heartbroken haha, don t get me wrong the sautéed mushrooms on the mushroom bacon burger were okay but it just is not the same :(. ,,, it will not stop me from coming back but I m just a bit let down. Please for the love of god don t change your fries or I ll be crushed, they are an honest god send.

My friend and I had a wonderful experience at The Copper Penny! Our server Grace was personable and very sweet. She didn t forget a thing and the food came out the fastest I have ever seen! Even during rush hour with the place packed! Highly recommend this place; it was my first time here, but certainly not my last

What a wonderful dining experience! My wife and I stopped by for lunch, and had great service and delicious food all at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend the Thai Spring Rolls as an appetizer! Enjoy!!

Ordered the chicken ravioli carboana and the thai spring rolls for take out. Not only the container was small in size, there were hardly any chicken pieces in it. Only 2 small pieces. Not worth the price. Not going back to this place anymore.

Excellent service and food! We ordered takeout and it was great, nice job on the ribs, wings and the fries were golden crispy and cooked just right. Serivce was quick as I walked in the door, our food was ready! The only small thing was the charge for the ranch dipping sauce $.80 cents, used to come with the wings at no charge but the cost of supplies to restaruants its no wonder you have to charge that. I would order from here again or dine in next time if I was not working.

The food is not as good as it was per-Covid. Meal was still good but prices were really expensive. 75 bucks for a family of 4... With having water to drink. Wheelchair accessibility: It is not accessible at all. Bathroom on second floor. Classic old downtown doors to get in.

Ate chicken tettrazini, a normal creamy pasta. Its a little refreshing than ordinary creamy pasta, but it still feels greasy and I cant get used to the taste. I couldnt eat more than half the bowl left... I might try something else in the future.

I had dinner with my wife and the service was nothing but the best. Immediately greeted and seated, answered all our questions about the food, and kept an eye on us making sure everything was fine. The food was super delicious and the wait was minimal. Tammy our server was professional and charming and made us feel very valued as customers. Highly recommend going and will certainly go back another time.

Nice place. Only 5 beer on tap, mostly from 1 brewery. Food was pretty good, though the garlic in my spiral pasta dish was slightly burned. We were seated across from the stairs to the washrooms and a very loud coffee machine, which detracted from the atmosphere.

We had a wonderful experience with our two young children. Brittany, our server made us feel right at home and turned a semi-stressful outing with a baby into a phenomenal experience. Food was great, will definitely return!

So many delicious options to pick from but you can never say no to their burgers and fries! The Chipotle Spinach Dip is must if you love Spinach Dip with a twist!

Havent been here in years but I remember it was always a good experience and good food whenever I did go here.

Worth every Penny

Great waitress (Riley) made the evening! She was very upbeat and on the ball! All items ordered were tasty (soup, carbonara four cheese ravioli, chicken bowl, huge serving of cake). Prompt service, and timing from order to service was good. Up-casual dining. Venue isn t huge. Washrooms are upstairs (with subpar stairs). Didn t feel like we were being rushed out (which seems to occur at some establishments).

Had dinner with kids and grandkids. Solid food, lots of choice, great service. We will be back! Kid-friendliness: Kids menu was spot on. Ice cream was included and was perfect.

One of Kingstons finest restaurants. Always make it a stop in the summer for a patio meal. Love the servers, love the food. A Kingston institution, surely.

Lovely staff. They accommodate our group by joining tables. Drinks and food were decent. Prices were normal. Not cheap, but then not unacceptable expensive either. The kids menu is pretty good if they want something regular like burger and fries - which was a hit. Food was mixed. You have to be smart about what you order. Pasta Alfredo was boring but then, thats the kind of dish that is. There are enough options to make it work. I think its worth another visit should the opportunity arise.

Have not been to the copper penny in years but I will return sooner than that...the food was very good (dont miss out on the fries) and the service excellent!

Food was not great but service was good. my 5 year old son got sick at the restaurant and the server was very understanding and empathetic.

Its a relatively nice place, staff are kind, clean, timely, food tastes good. But nothing about it was above average or stood out. I gave Food, Service and Atmosphere all 4 stars, because they are. But the cost of it all is the quicker. Our dates usually run along the 55-70$ range for more food, better service and a longer stay. We ended up spending about 85$ for a quick sit down pub meal. Overall a nice place, but doesnt qualify for the price. Probably wont be returning.

Great stay had trouble using my wallet key but front desk helped very promptly.

Beautiful setting for a meal with friends and family

Ordered a few times here for take out and usually decent food. Ordered a club house the other night and mentioned twice to toast it. The lady there said of course. Got it home only to find the bread was as white as snow. No more clubhouses there. What a disappointment. Parking: Often hard to find parking on the street.

Great food and amazing service, did not reflect what members of the pantry family claimed in their defamation and smear campaign in retaliation for the fraud a few years back. Regret not going sooner food is amazing.

Vegetarian options: Black bean Burger is the best Food

Very very bad foods! Do not waste your money and of course your time there. It was something they called it Bruschetta, two pieces of baguette bread or something like that, with cooked tomato and onion, chopped parsley and shredded morbale cheddar cheese... missing an egg to call it Omlete !!! We ordered fish and chips and buffalo wrap. There was just simple expired mayo and they called it Tartar sauce, I couldnt found any capers or even pickle inside it, around of fish was bread!!! Very very heavy dough of course probably called as fish batter... Buffalo wrap.... Smelly greasy chicken finger with big amount of shredded iceberg lettuce and Chipotle mayo ... Come on!!!! There was nothing look like buffalo wrap at all....missing ingredients like sundries tomato as mentioned in menue as well....

Good fries. Very good sweet potato fries. Gluten free bun was ok. Do not recommend the very forgettable and over priced grilled cheese that was just grocery store humdrum plain white bread. Good thing my child ordered it and not me. Back in the olden times we use to call this place Cheap and Bulky instead of Copper Penny. That nomer is now a misnomer.

The food was good, there was lots of it and the price was decent for the amount of food. Service was good and food come out rather quick.

LOVE it here. I was a Queens student, and this became one of my favourite places to eat in Kingston. The spice they put on the fries is amazing. I usually get the chipotle chicken burger, but sometimes branch out- either way, it is decently priced, good if you want a YUMMY dinner but are on a student budget. Ive brought friends and my parents here, and all of them express their desire to go back again. The wait staff are always nice and the kitchen is very quick. Plus, were always greeted by the bartender. Its nice to dine in a place that seems to genuinely want us there. You guys do a great job:)

4 stars across the board!! Rib and wing dinner was absolutely amazing, had the sweet and spicy sauce on both and it was a pleasant surprise as it was way better than I thought!! This place gives you enough food in one meal for 2 people!! Everything tasted amazing!!! Service was really well done as well as our server was on the ball and very polite and positive. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming with tvs for the sports people like myself low level music. Not a huge fan of places that play overly loud music were you cant even hear the people you are sitting with. I WILL BE BACK!!!

Was such a great experience... even my son (13) was able the enjoy the patio and loved the meal... the waitress was over the moon amazing... Food and drinks were great! We enjoyed our time sitting out on the patio. However, the service was very slow receiving drinks, and our time was cut short due to our server telling us she was cut and ready to go home. We had finished our appetizer (the bruschetta was great) and considering other food at this point. A little disappointing as we felt like we were being rushed to finish and leave.

Fantastic service, nice atmosphere, good food. The fries are so addictive. The Ringer was a hit with everyone that ordered it. The Voodoo Chicken wrap was a bit disappointing. Not much chicken and mostly fillers (ie lettuce, cheese etc). It wasn t spicy at all, which I m thankful for. Tried the Fish n Chips. The fries were AMAZING. The fish was ok. Found the batter to be too thick for the amount of fish inside. The kids meals are great, and they come with a drink AND ice cream all for $11. Next time I ll stick to the burger. Kid-friendliness: They have big tables inside if you re a big group with kids.

The patio was not the place to be tonight, the wasps enjoyed my meal more than I did. Was offered a lemonade filled wasp catcher. Didnt help at all.

Wouldnt recommend it. My partner ordered the Alfredo pasta. For 16 dollars, we received a small portion of bland pasta, with about 8 full cloves of barely cooked garlic inside of it, which is all you could taste. And it came with a single piece of garlic toast that you get pre-made in plastic bags at the grocery store. She only ate about 2 bites of it. And when asked how it was we were honest and instead of taking the item off of our bill, which would have been the appropriate action as we did not eat it, we were given 15%, off the item. Its still not worth it, and we are not ones to cause a scene and push the matter. I got the old-fashioned burger, and it was a dry slab of meat with a single tomato and pickle covering half of the burger. This was not a good meal by any standard. The highlight was the fries I received. I had to delete my old review as this new experience completely soured my opinion of this restaurant. We will not be back.

Fries were the only ok item. Food was cold and my Buffalo wrap had no chicken in it. Didnt get offered a refill on my pop either . Very dull atmosphere

I really loved copper Penny, my friend and I would go every week during highschool to get a basket of fries. Its literally a memory I hold close to my heart. Not only has your quality dropped, your prices have skyrocketed. I cannot even think to afford eating here now because who can afford to pay over $10 for a basket of fries that are just not as good as they were. I understand current issues, but I cant justify paying so much when getting so little. Especially with takeout, the portions are much smaller. Opening the box to see a handful of fries and chicken strips no bigger than the size of shrimp, thats just sad yo.

I first went to the Copper Penny about 28 years ago, and I just recently went back again. I loved it then, and I still love it now. Hopefully I wont leave my visits 28 years apart.

The fries are unreal; they re a must-have if you visit this restaurant. The old fashioned burger was good and my friends recommend the penny burger.

The service was great. We were in a group of 7 and none of the food was good. The fish batter was soggy and not crispy and under cooked. The burger was overcooked, the chicken parmesan was cold and the pasta extremely garlicy. The best part of everyones meal was the drinks. Overall a very disapppointing and expensive evening. Would not recommend at all.

The server was lovely, the food was almost inedible. The bruschetta was made with what I can only assume was canned tomatoes (not cooked out), and 4 pounds of mixed Italian seasoning. It tasted rancid because of the seasoning. The rest of the meal a club, chicken Caesar wrap and beef dip were very subpar. The fries were good, but they are bagged, pre made & deep fried - kind of hard to go wrong. I would parse down the menu and work at improving the ingredients and taste.

Fish and chips batter is no good. It is small bits of fish in fried bread. Philly wrap requires searching for beef in it.

Went in for drinks only. Just before dinner on a Sat in Dec. We got a nice booth. Ordered a couple of Penny sized Caesars, not bad but nothing to set them apart from the rest and a couple of beers

Loved the copper penny! I went with my friends an hour before closing, and they were still able to seat us with fast and friendly service. I got the beef dip sandwich, which was delicious. It came with a side of crunchy and tasty fries. Good price as well, highly recommend

We dined there 2 weeks ago. It was the 1st time. My wrap and fries were excellent. My husband was impressed as well. Fast forward to this time. We both had pasta. My husbands was just pasta. Mine was a chicken breast with pasta. The breast was delish, but both our pasta was barely lukewarm. We asked for another beer. It was poured but never arrived. We were going to a show, other wise I would have had both of the issues fixed. We will go back again, this time for burgers.

Disgusting the meat in my wrap was processed turkey.. no flavour .. the fries were so soggy and greasy and waaaaay too much salt I used to love the fries This used to be a not bad place to eat . Family friendly restaurant in downtown Kingston. Friendly servers, relaxed atmosphere and yummy (flavourful) food (perhaps a bit too flavourful for the youngest, pickiest eaters in our family). The kid s meal came with a drink and dessert, the adult meal portion sizes were hefty and filling. Not the best burger in town but the crispy chipotle chicken sandwich and the peanut butter brownie cheesecake dessert were really good!

Best cheese steak in town!

Our first visit in years and at the busiest time. Saturday at supper. We did wait at the bar about 20 min. Nice warm decorating helped to set us up for a good meal. We were seated and ordered our meals with no hitches. In fact this is where it noteworthy. Our friendly server Sarah.S. went out of her way to provide us with the meals we wanted. I had the chicken thai bowl (more vegetables, less rice) and my wife a wrap (with her own concerns). No problem. All delivered hot to our table, timely and tasting great.. Ty to the Penny for an excellent night out.. we will return.

Our favourite restaurant to visit in Kingston. Excellent service and legendary fries.

I got the burger with an upgraded poutine, and my partner got the chicken tetrazzini. The fries were so flavourful and crunchy and it was definitely one of the better poutines I ve had. My partner enjoyed his dish as well!
