AVOID AVOID Not Good?? Try minus 5 stars, no minus 10 stars!!! Horrible, awful, cold, greasy, the smallest serving of fish and "chips" I've ever seen. I just received my delivery from this "restaurant" and to say it's a waste of money doesn't begin to cover the dissatisfaction over this order. I ordered the fish and chips for $25. When ordering on Skip you have to choose a side. Because I was foolish enough to think the "chips" were a second portion I chose the salad greens. I didn't get chips! What kind of foolishness is this? The tiny little fish portions were swimming in grease~it took four p-towels to mop up most of it. The salad was absolutely not fresh! The coleslaw in the tiniest container I've ever seen was old and tasteless. How does this place get away with this? I called and was told that it's Skips fault. Now Skip leaves a LOT to be desired, but how is it their fault you don't know fish n' chips INCLUDES CHIPS? NEVER, EVER AGAIN! I was still hungry and wound up having to cook another meal! NOT having to cook was the entire idea behind ordering delivery. Awful. Just awful.
Great food. Particularly like the tuna steak which grilled on the outside while keeping the inside rare. The fish taco is crispy inside inside while giving you a soft feeling on the outside. Only a slight disappointment that the chowder is just Luke warm. I like soup to be hotter.
Great food as always, perfect place to enjoy the pier and night breeze during the summer. Their fish n' chips is definitely a signature here!
Mixed feelings about Dianne’s. We stopped in after our boat tour in Gananoque and specifically wanted the lobster roll. Our server accidentally spilled water all over the table and on us (which we have no issue with- accidents happen) however the cleanup was a real turn off. He wiped the tabletops off with towels, then wiped the floor, then used the same towels again on the tabletops… completely grossed us out. We flagged another waiter over to bring a disinfectant to the table as there was no where else to sit. Outside of that, food was ok.. lobster rolls had a lot of mayo and the lobster meat was quite fine (would have appreciated larger chunks). Lobster roll was also really pricey.. was shocked to see that. Tacos were ok too but really small… would not recommend stopping here while in Kingston.
Had a lovely dinner with a friend last night. The smashed guacamole with chips was a great starter to share. I then had a cup of seafood chowder because it was cold outside and that was quite delicious. I had this along with one fish taco which was also very tasty. The mojito was yummy too!
Have been here multiple times over the past few years with my friends and partner. I LOVE coming here when I’m craving a seafood meal. Absolute favourite thing to order was the cavatappi pasta which is now sadly off the menu and I hope they bring it back! They also always have the freshest oysters. Pro tip: only order oysters during months with an ‘r’ (January, February, March, April, September, October, November, December) and they’ll be the freshest! Atmosphere is great and service has always been amazing.
Dianne's in Kingston is a must-visit for seafood lovers! We absolutely love their East Coast seafood dishes. The oysters are a standout—so fresh and sweet, they're a real treat. I also can't get enough of their steamed mussels and spicy calamari; both dishes are bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked every time. My husband is a huge fan of their fish and chips, and he orders it every time without fail. The crispy batter and tender fish keep him coming back, and he never gets tired of it. The combination of delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere makes Dianne's a top choice whenever we're in Kingston. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates quality seafood!
My wife and I went to Dianne's on a Thursday at about 530pm. It was overall a great experience. We walked over from beautiful Confederation Park in historic downtown Kingston and were greeted by the hostess. There was no line, and we were offered indoor or outdoor seating, both of which had several available tables. The outdoor tables on the east side of the building had a waterfront view. We chose to sit inside simply for the weather conditions at the time. The indoor atmosphere was lovely and reminded me of being at a beach. The music was appropriate and wasn't too loud. The mood was well set, and the tables were comfortably spaced from one another. We immediately served water, and our waitress (Harper?) presented herself well and was very friendly. I ordered a spicy Pineapply margarita, which was unique and delicious (shaken with jalapenos for the spice but the pepper itself not included in the drink). My wife ordered the Sangria, which was refreshing. They were served promptly, and our food order was taken. The prices were wide-ranging, so there is something on the menu for a lavish date or a budget evening. We chose shrimp and Baja fish soft tacos, both of which were flavourful and light. I preferred the baja fish to the shrimp...the shrimp were good, but the fish was delicious! I liked that you could pick how many tacos you wanted instead of having a fixed menu. Sides were not included, and the tacos were fairly small, which made the price somewhat unbalanced. My wife ordered a side of the house slaw, and I had a side of fries and gravy. The slaw was good but seemed to be vinaigrette based. The fries could have been crispier but were very well seasoned. Unfortunately, the gravy was not good. They say it was beef gravy, but it didn't taste like it. The gravy was gelatinous and tasted weird... How did the staff take the criticism? Very well! She apologized for the gravy, removed it from the bill, and let the kitchen know how it was received. For dessert (I forgot to take a picture of the menu), there were 4 options, which all sounded heavenly. We chose to split an order of salted caramel cake with whipped cream and fresh berries. Let me tell you... wow! It was $14, but it was very large and extremely rich. Very, very good, but we had to box half of it for later. The good: The location*, the wide-ranging budget menu, great service, delicious food. *given the location, if there's a festival or something downtown - good luck getting in. Maybe plan to come another day. What I'd fix: A candle would have been nice at the table, and a larger portion for price. All meals should come with a side, even if you only include a scoop of slaw with the tacos. I included my final receipt, and tipped 20%. Highly recommend 👌.
Fabulous food & drink, very accommodating for gluten free options!!
Great spot for fresh seafood served in a welcoming bar atmosphere
This is one of our favorite places to go to, and its perfect every time . Kayla was one of the best servers weve ever had... you rock . Well be back again soon, and Id recommend stopping by for some food!
Great place for a meal!
Chowder is awesome!
Great service and even better food!
One of our best dinners in Kingston!
Definitely recommend the Fish Tacos. Super Fresh and crunchy. The atmosphere is sublime and the staff, amazing. Definitely see myself coming here once again. Food : 5/5
Great calamari
Stopped for lunch at Diane s with a group of four. Excellent food and so happy with the GF battered fish. Great service. Would highly recommend.
Im not a seafood lover so I wasnt sure what to expect, but their burger (apparently somewhat updated) was DELICIOUS. Great house vinaigrette for the salad. Dont miss out thinking its all about sea critters.
The food was good, but not great for the prices. It wasn t very busy when we went for dinner but found the service to be slow. No refreshment top-ups were offered and had to wait a lengthy period of time after we finished our meal to receive our bill.
Food was great, I ordered tacos and I enjoyed every bit of it, mushroom and fish were tasty.
Was looking for a top notch fish and chips that is gluten-free for dinner. This place checked all the mmmmm And a cold stout while I waited Food : 5/5
The staff were upscale and very personable. The fish and chips were outstanding The very best ever so good I came back the next day. I live near Windsor-Essex and look forward to come back again.
The food - excellent as well as the service and location. We ordered two of the most recommended fish tacos and a margarita which were very good but also can add the mussels and the Caesar salad to the list of best ever. We were staying at the Holiday Inn so it was a short walk to enjoy a delicious dinner. Highly recommended.
Honestly absolutely terrible. Fish tasted like a soggy sock and fries were absolutely horrendous. Do not recommend to anybody
One if not the best fish n chips I ve eaten!
This was a fist visit for us and WE WILL BE BACK. Both the food and the service were amazing. Our server was very friendly and attentive as were all of the staff. You could tell that they were proud of their establishment. If you are seeking awesome seafood in the Kingston area, look no further. Our recommendations are: the fish cakes (recommended by the couple next to us, and they were right), the fish & chips and if you want the bounty of the sea, have the Seafood Stew. The stew was packed full of shrimp, scallops, mussels, calamari, chicken, sausage, peppers, onions and a sauce that complimented it perfectly. All-in-all a perfect experience.
Best fish and chips Ive ever had. Very nice place.
Nice cozy place with excellent food and drink. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. We were in Kingston and found this place. Cant wait to go back!!!
I enjoyed the lobster rolls with a refreshing cocktail. Although the portions were a bit pricey for the size, the atmosphere was nice, and the server was friendly, which added to the experience.
1st time at this restaurant. And it did not disappoint! Food was amazing, drinks were amazing and our server was amazing! She took care of our party of 8. The service was fast , our drinks and food came out at perfect times and she politely laughed at my brothers bad dad jokes! Definitely recommend.
The fish and chips was very good, service was great and fast, and the patio is very nice.
We ordered fish and chips and baja fish tacos they were good quality also perfect portion and not overwhelming. Price is also reasonable. They are also welcoming with us and our dog also got a treat.
I visited Dianne s for the second time. While food was good, portions were very small. We ordered a dozen of oysters, fish chowder, fish and chips, and fish tacos with couple of drinks. We had shell chips in the oysters. Chowder had very few pieces of fish or potato. Serving staff was nice and the place was moderately busy but the food service was extremly slow. We were sitting outside and when it got dark, the light above our table was not working. Server did offer us to move to a different table but that should have been checked proactively.
Food tasted good. But Be careful, the taco portions are very small. And the beef inside taco was braised and also fried (both)!!!
Hello owner of Dianne s, here are some observations and the reason for the stars for food quality, service and ambiance: Food: Excellent, my family is visiting from Mexico for the first time in Kingston. My mother loved the garlic shrimp, my father found the clam chowder soup tasty and my wife was very satisfied with the fish & chips. BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the kitchen team. I would have liked to have more sauce in my enchiladas verdes, the traditional Mexican recipe has more sauce. Service: the attitude of the young hostess was far from warm or welcoming (essential characteristics for this type of work). I requested a more comfortable type of table due to my parents being elderly and my mother having mobility issues. Although there were a lot of free tables and I pointed out other options, she gave us a table that we didnt like. I went to ask for another table from another lady (who was the manager, but I didnt know that). She also, with a very abrupt attitude, told me that the tables that I indicated as an option were all reserved. Finally, the NOAH waiter who has a real managerial attitude, oriented towards customer satisfaction and finding solutions for customers, realized that I was not at all satisfied with the service and he placed us in the first table (the reserved). A few minutes later I asked Noah that I wanted to speak with the manager. This one was next to him, the same young lady who had told me that almost all the tables were reserved, when ironically the restaurant had very few customers. I made my remarks about the service given by the hostess and to my surprise, instead of apologizing and being understanding, she justified the girls attitude and even the manager responded to each of my remarks. . I think that if we take the time to point out things, it is so that the service is better, not to win a battle of arguments. Atmosphere: very clean restaurant, fairly cold air conditioning (food gets cold quickly) and very nice location, close to the marina. Finally, as my marketing professor at university taught us: A satisfied customer is the best investment in advertising. When faced with a customer who is not completely satisfied, there is something in marketing called the moment of truth where the company tries to remedy the mistake by offering a small gift or extra. The manager didnt even have the delicacy to approach our table to apologize to my elderly parents. Note to owner: NOAH, for its excellent proactive service deserves a big bonus or recognition bonus. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. Sincerely, David
Fantastic food, really great service and good value for money. Went in on a whim after not being able to get in somewhere else, would definitely go back whenever visiting Kingston in future.
One of the Best fish tacos I ve ever had must try!
Went tonight for the first time. We didnt have a reservation but thr host found us a nice ta Ble. My friend had the fish and chips. I had the fish and shrimp. It was wonderful! The fish was perfect... glistening and delicious. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. Loved the cook on the fish, not over battered. Highly recommend to everyone.
Soooo disappointed. Ordered raw oysters. They were so thin with barely any meat and charged $45.00. Also ordered calamari which of course was from a frozen bag so you needed a magnifying glass to find the teeny tiny pieces. The non-alcoholic beverage with blueberries, guava juice and lemon juice was the most sour drink ever. Thankfully they took it off my bill. Won t be going to this place again!!! Ever!
Have been here before but the food has gone downhill. Ordered a steak, the potatoes were so hard you couldnt even poke a fork thru them. Steak also hard. Mushroom burger also ordered... couldnt even eat it! It was all just like sauce coming out the sides. Served warm water. Server nowhere to be found finally they came and asked how it was.. obviously not good when we ate none of it and it was still on our plate.
Consistent and good we had large group
Beautiful restaurant and great service. The food was oilier than we liked, but it was tasty and the portions were large.
Excellent fish and chips this evening and the service was good
Great spot! The fish cakes were just as crispy and delicious as I had been told they would be, and pleasantly smoky. The margaritas were also so tasty. I didn t get the names of the bartender and servers that I met but for a customer that came in an hour before close, they were incredibly warm and welcoming. Excited to go back next time I m in town!
Best fish & chips with jumbo shrimp I have ever had and Ive had a lot. Sauce made in house.
While Diannes enjoys a positive food experience, I have to post a review advising otherwise. This place is so over rated, it is not even laughable. The food is average at best, the portions are the joke, and the prices the final kick in the face! Do not dine here! There are plenty of other choices in Kingstons downtown that are way better.
Ok food and service however EXTREMELY overpriced. A dozen oysters were 50$ and a glass of wine was 19$ when the entire bottle for the same wine from LCBO costs 16$. 25$ for some average fish and chips. For a family of 4 it was a 260$ bill... This was not a very high class restaurant so therfore prices shouldnt be this crazy. So therfore I would go somewhere else where you can get better value for the money.
Party venue. Great food and service. Located directly on the main street. Indoor and outdoor dining.
Great restaurant very close to the marina where we were located. Lovely welcome, space on the terrace, everything is wonderful. We decide to have an aperitif each then we choose the starter and there its total charm really a good starter quite hearty, so my girlfriend doesnt have a main course, I have the fish and chips and shrimp combo , once again on the charm. Ozzy thanks for the good service.
My partner and I just tried Dianne s for the first time, and we absolutely love it. I ve been a vegetarian for almost 20 years and the Shroom Burger was the best veggie burger I have ever gotten from a restaurant - trust me, I ve tried a lot of them. My girlfriend said the 2 piece fish and chips were perfect and the tartar sauce was something special . The service was really quick, chill, and friendly. We can t wait to go back for our next date night. Vegetarian options: They have some really great vegetarian options, the Shroom Burger was amazing. Can t wait to try the others!
Best fish and chips. Staff was great and friendly. Highly recommend as we were waiting to get in, people were leaving telling us the food was amazing and they were right!
Good seafood. The crab dip is awesome! Fast service. Sadly seriously lacking in alcohol free beers - cmon guys, micro-breweries are making some amazing alcohol free beers nowadays.
Love that their fish and chips are gluten free, and not an option or substitute. They were tasty and filling. Fries were a little salty. Shroom burger was lovely. Vegetarian options: Shroom burger. They have vegetarian tacos too and will substitute the dairy cheese. Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free options. Parking: Paid Parking indoors 1 minute away. Wheelchair accessibility: Bathroom not wheelchair accessible.
I love this place. Food is fantastic. Fish is not greasy at all and the batter is so thin. The Summer salad has a delicious dressing that is addicting. The fish sandwich and beef tacos an amazing. The only issue is what I observed which I found concerning. An employee who had short curly hair was cleaning the outside table next to me. He sprayed a solution that my server said it had chemicals in it, on the table leaving the salt and pepper shakers on the table. Thinking he overheard my observation as I was telling my daughter, he removed them and continued to wipe the table. After, he picked up the shakers, using the same cloth he proceeded to wipe off the lids. I had let my waitress know what I observed. I do hope management addresses this as it is not acceptable and extremely concerning
We really want to like Diannes but once again the food was subpar, to say the least. Tried it again last night after about 5 years... we hadnt been in years because we always left dissappointed. But as there are really no other seafood restaurants in Kingston, decided to give it another try hoping it had improved. It hasnt. The atmosphere, location and service were all great as always but the food sucked. We got oysters to start and the shells flaked off in our mouth - like eggshells in your eggs but worse cuz they were $50. The lobster in the lobster rolls was cold, like right out of the fridge cold, and flavourless. Ever heard of butter and garlic? It goes really well with lobster! My husband got tuna steak and salad. The tuna was chewy and flavourless and salad portion was tiny. We each got an old fashioned to drink and even they were terrible, just cheap bourbon with a bit of orange peel. At least our son enjoyed his fish tacos. We left with our wallets $200 lighter and thoroughly dissappointed. We will not be giving Diannes another try and frankly I dont know how this place is still in business. Good concept, poor execution.
Cant review food and atmosphere because we couldnt get in. The youngsters serving there dont know what theyre doing. Never again that place.
Very disappointed after seeing that many good reviews. We headed there for lunch, there were still some tables available inside, but it was chaos in organizing the guests and we ended up without a table, but 6 other people who arrived later than us, were invited inside for some bar sits and ended up sitting at tables! This place is run by some kids who do not know what they are doing!
Really loved the experience at Diannes. The service was top notch and the food delicious. Must try when in Kingston.
We never miss an opportunity to eat here whenever we are in Kingston. It is never disappointing!!
Busy waterfront spot with a wide variety of dishes on the menu. Attentive staff kept on top of the capacity crowd.
Outstanding fish chowder. Disappointing fish and shrimp tacos. Strong Dianne s burger. Overpriced corn.
Succulent meal. Nice atmosphere. Recommended
Absolutely great restaurant to dine in!!!!
We came to Kingston for a night of R&R and went ro Dianna s for dinner. Food was beyond good . Best fish ive ever had!!! The Lobster Rolls were so fresh and full Of flavour. Our server Jackie went above and beyond and made our experience memorable. I also recommend the Mexican streetcorn. I would give 10 stars if i could!!!
Too expensive, the quantity is okay, the taste is okay, and the shrimps are fantastic in taste. Service was okay and the ambience was fine. It was different from other fish and chips around Ontario, but the price and quantity was way apart. Parking: You would have to walk a bit if you do not find a parking spot near the restaurant.
Food was very disappointing. Had the seafood chowder and it was mostly coloured broth . A couple of small cubes of potatoes and a couple of very small pieces of fish . This was the second time going there . The outdoor patio is beautiful and the service was great but my food choice again was not very good .
Had the brisket sandwich, and fish & chips combo. I especially love the beer battered fish and their rich tartar sauce. Amazing!
Our server Victoria was fantastic even though we asked to sit in her section when she was so busy. She was kind and attentive. James, the bartender was also very lovely. Management should take a better look at one particular employee though, who walked around the restaurant doing absolutely nothing to assist his team mates. I believe his name is Sam. Drinks came up at the pass and he seemingly had nothing better to do to notify the server assigned on the chit. Rather that run them himself he pulled out his phone do whatever he was doing. To top it off, he walked over to a dirty table without patrons, looked at the mess and picked up one singular bottle of vinegar (there were two on the table) and walked away leaving the table just as messy as he found it. As a hospitality manager in a time where labor and food costs are extremely high, I thought I would let you know so you arent wasting money on an employee who is not pulling their weight.
This is one of our favourite places to eat in Kingston. The fish is perfectly cooked with a light flavourful crust. It is my husbands go to place for fish and chips and he said its spoiled him for any other restaurant that offers it.
Most things were very good, service, cleanliness, drinks. I was disappointed with the food. Expensive steak was gristley. Fish tacos were very tasty but over priced for the amount of fish served and not very much colslaw...we werent impressed. Salads and colslaw were good. They should do better.
A perfect summer dine out place
great fish and shrimp tacos! amazing vibes and service is top tier, my server Grace served very well, made my experience a great time!
Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible, however; they will make the necessary space to accommodate you. Food
Beautiful home run place. Great food with great variety. So were the different drinks. Woukd definitely recommend this place. Staff were so friendly too.
Nice little spot, food is excellent for the most part. Ordered the diannes burger, received the mushroom instead, staff was very kind when correcting the mistake but the burger came a little over cooked.
Awesome house salade and great friendly staff!!
Our server was sweet. She told us after wed ordered our appies that the kitchen was slammed and our food would take a while, which it absolutely did. We were there for an hour before our mains arrived, although several people in our 5 person party noted other guests who arrived after us had their mains before we did. It was Buskers Weekend in Kingston, so that probably had a lot to do with the timing. There were several orders of fish tacos, two fish and chips and one order of lobster rolls. It was all fine. Not brilliant, and none of us were 100 percent certain it was good value for our money, but nothing bad about any of it, other than the long wait. The cocktails and oysters were very good, but the oysters were expensive - more than other places downtown if I remember correctly. We dont have many options for seafood in Kingston, so Id love to have raved about it. Ill go back and give the whole place another try, most likely.
Great service, delicious breakfast!
Food is over priced for what you get, salad had brown lettuce and the glass of water was warm ! Dont believe in ice. Will never be back.
Appetizers alone took 45 minutes. And they managed to get our order wrong. entrées took so long that we just left. Would not recommend.
UPDATE 2024 Had some guests from OT aka TO, we waited 45 mins before our apps arrived and the order was wrong, had to wait another 10 mins for the corrected item, then 30 mins for the mains...so we left without eating, but kindly paid for our consumed consumables. Not a 5-star experience anymore...service was very fake and not genuine at all! Something has changed, and it was not a good look for me as I recommended this place to the group. Every time Ive visited the resto - its been a pleasure. Food is great, service with a smile, patio is chill. Definitely recommend this place if youre visiting...
Best seafood in Kingston and great service.
We were passing through Toronto and wanted to eat fish again - we came across Diannes and didnt regret it. The service, a young man, was very good - but what I always find a bit strange is that after youve finished you get the bill straight away without asking for it. I always feel thrown out straight away. But thats another topic...the food we ordered was very good. We had a tuna steak (pink inside) on a bed of rocket and a kind of fish pan with shrimp and scallops...really very tasty. However, I have to deduct a star because neither of us were full and that for a price of 35 CAD per main course. Thats kind of part of it for me...So there was another dessert, which was also great.
Great restaurant. I ate a very good tuna fillet. High quality food, nice staff, great ambience at the harbor.
If m able to order everything on the menu I will definitely do it, cant miss this place every summer when I visit kingston
I love the location and environment. The service is amazing but the waiting time can be improved and also the quality of food. The fish seemed stale and lacked flavor.
Pleasant dinner, taken on the terrace (on the sidewalk). Attentive service and very tasty dishes (seafood poutine) well appreciated. A good address at a reasonable price.
Nice place by the water and it s downtown- can t expect the portions to match the price, lol. But had higher expectations for the fish- would rather go back to Halibut House. The staff are nice and friendly though. Busy area, had to wait for a while to sit down.
Good food but pricey for what you get. Service and atmosphere were excellent. Great place to end your day as it is very relaxing and the staff make you feel very welcome.
We got oysters and the calamari to start. The fish and chips were good but the enchiladas was not that tasty because the beef was very dry and it took over 20 minutes to arrive after finishing our apps. Overall it was an okay experience. The reason why we tried this restaurant was because last year there was a super long line up to get in and we didnt want to wait so we settled for something else. After trying it out this year I have to say it was not worth the wait but good food overall.
We were so pleased to be able to enjoy gluten-free fish and chips at Diannes. It was delicious and the price was right. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
super delicious food, beautiful and nice waitress
I ve been here before a few years ago and remember it being good but something is different. I ordered a Caesar salad, fish tacos and the caramel cake for take out. That is quite possibly the worst Caesar dressing I ve ever tasted - no resemblance to real Caesar and I love the idea of avocado with it, but it was so sour to the point it tasted like drinking lemon juice. The fish tacos were alright but I ve had traditionally made fish tacos and the weird salsa on these kind of ruined them. Finally, the cake was supposed to come with whipped cream and berries - I got zero whipped cream and literally one blueberry .
Simple decor, good food. Service was a bit hit and miss.
Very good. The oysters were great, dinner was great, the Caesars were good, the service was great. Would definitely recommend!
Lovely little restaurant. Food was excellent. We had linguini pastawiyh blackened shrimps, lobster buns, fish and chips and PEI mussels. Good serving size!
Very nice place! Our waitress Karle (I hope the spelling is right) was amazing and extremely accommodating. The food was good, with vegetarian and gluten-free options. We were glad to discover the place and I recommend it.
Everything about Diannes was sublime. The food was amazing!!! Well be back!!! It was the perfect meal before our concert. Loved that chocolate caramel drizzled cake!!!!! <3 Food
This restaurant was recommended by our tour guide at Kingston Penitentiary. We are so glad we went. We sat at an outside table close to the water. Our server Jackie was very pleasant. Had a nice conversation. Our drinks came very quickly. We ordered the fish and shrimp combo which also came fairly quick. The food was amazing. Their coleslaw is absolutely the best we ever had! We highly recommend this restaurant. Parking: Not too many spots but we found one as soon as we arrived
Good location and service was excellent. Other than that mediocre food.
Fish and chips, particularly shrimp was amazing. Mussels also fantastic. Cute. Small place.
Honestly, the worst dining experience Ive had in a week. We ate on the terrace, the floor moved under the feet of people passing by. I had the pulled beef burger, it was tasteless as if spices didnt exist in this world. Context: My partner and I are looking for a house. In the meantime we eat out for a whole week.
Interesting joint doing New Brunswick Mexican style cuisine or something slightly confusioning. Very good very creamy chowder. I would recommend adding saffron to it and a touch more pepper. Fish and chips very well made, the fish tasted like it was cooked fresh not frozen which was surprising after all Kingston is not known for sea fish. Interesting aioli type of homemade tartare sauce, possibly slightly too garlicky, it became a bit cloying after a while. mixed salad good but not great, Overall not too expensive considering the quality and service. Worth a try if you are in town.
Diannes used to be one of our favourite restaurants however over the past little while, the quality of the food just hasnt been the same.
Awesome place! Service was prompt and friendly and they brought a bowl for our dog.
Was invited to go. Service was good, and we felt attended to. However something was off the fish of the fishnchips I had because for a few days after my stomach was sore and unsettled and I was in discomfort. Not a pleasant visit or memory to say the least
Our waitress was excellent and the food was to die for. I have never had a bad meal here!
Table was so small it couldnt accommodate the food we ordered. The restaurant was so noisy you couldnt hold a conversation. We have taken this restaurant off our list when we visit Kingston in the future.
Great food! Great service. Love the décor.
Fish sandwich with a side house salad was excellent. Crab dip was good (warm, not hot though). Mojitos are one of the best too. Give the food 5 stars but the value for the $ about 4 stars. Overall rating 4.5 stars. Will be back for lunch next time we are in Kingston.
If youre charging $4 for a small piece of bread, you need to disclose this before. Not cool. I asked whether the salad comes with bread, never ordered any bread side.
Amazing fish tacos and Grace our server was great!
Ate early dinner there on June 7th, 2024. Love that its gluten-free for most of the menu. Its a little pricey but worth it. Food was great. Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options
great food. service awesome. sat on patio near the door facing ontario st. have some one move or clean up all the stuff we can see while eating. awesome overall
Weve eaten here many times and it has always been a good experience, except for the one this past weekend (pride day). Even though the restaurant was only about 50% occupancy, and numerous servers standing around and chatting with eachother, we received terrible service and felt ignored. We were seated right away but waited 20 minutes just for our server to come greet us and take a drink order. We ordered both drinks and a shared app and waited another 15 mins for the drinks and an additional 15 for the app. We received 8 pieces of pita with a larger dip and finally asked a nearby employee for some more so we could finish the dip but this never came. When a different server came to ask if we wanted some more chips we told her we had already asked for more but never received them and we were not able to wait any longer. We had 4 different servers during our 1 hour experience and it seemed none of them communicated to eachother and we had to flag each of them down it seemed otherwise we would have waited even longer for assistance. There was also no attempt to improve our service there or even an apology when we brought up our concern. We never write negative reviews but this experience required one.
Waited 45 minutes for a super bland $17 salad. Portions were tiny. Not worth the time or money :/
Amazing shrimp tacos!!
Their combo fish&chips, shrimps are amazing, so delicious. Will come again next time staying in Kingston
Nice and friendly environment but terrible fish and chips. I can get frozen fish sticks myself and make them at home. Disappointed.
We had a fantastic meal on Friday evening. My wife has Celiac disease and the recent changes to the menu are greatly appreciated. Having more options, presented so deliciously are going to make you a gluten friendly destination. We both had the fish and I would never have identified the batter as being GF. Group of five. Great lunch special fish tacos with green salad
Great service and a great menu with many different choices. The fishcakes and the tuna steak were excellent. The chowder was ok, but not the best I ever had. I will definitely be back to try out other items from the menu. Food
Our waitress was great! Very friendly Food (fish and chips) was also very good. Place was a little loud, but thats ok for a lunch. Thanks! Food : 5/5 |
Good food and service. Fish & chips were excellent.
Stopped here for lunch on our way to Montebello, QC after reading the reviews. Honestly would go back here in a heart beat. Service was excellent, restaurant was beautiful, and the food was fantastic. I had the Fiesta Fries, and a trio of tacos. I chose the baja fish, the al pastor shrimp, and the beef barbacoa. I liked the baja fish the best of the three and wish i had gotten all baja fish! Loved it. Only downside is they serve Pepsi products. Their food would be best complimented with Coke product if you ask me!
GLUTEN FREE HEAVEN. They make their food in dedicated fryers now and I m obsessed! I wish they had gluten free in their restaurant name to make it more easily findable. But the people that work here are literally the nicest ever. I ordered on Uber eats and went to pick it up but forgot to tell them I wanted to gluten free. They were SO nice and offered me a replacement if I felt like I was worried. I didn t take a replacement but it just shows how seriously they take customer satisfaction. Loved this place and the food was SO great.
This was my second time ordering the mussels and the serving size was way smaller than the first time. The first time I had them was only about a week ago and I was given a huge bowl with a bucket for shells, so it was more than enough to count for a meal. But I took my dad last night and we each got our own order and they were significantly smaller, almost half the size of my first, no need for a bucket. we left still feeling hungry.
We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
After seeing the reviews I was expecting a hight quality food. Will start with the positive: the place looks great and located on a busy corner next to the river. The service was great . The prices were a bit on the higher end . The fish and ships costed 24$ , tuna stake 35$ and the portions were small. We started with fish cake looked great but tasted like nothing, no salt no spices. The fish and ships and fish and shrimps, the fries tasted great the fish was ok but small portions and the shrimp tasted great. The salad was very tasty and the tartar sauce was very tasty too. Parking: Busy area might be hard to find a parking. There are lots of free street parking 5 to 10 min walk. Kid-friendliness: Looked like it was
Incredible gluten-free fish and chips. Honestly, stop everything you re doing and go eat there. Our waitresss Jackie was amazing, margaritas were awesome and they even gave my grandma a t-shirt for her b day. Thanks a lot!
Aguachile was amazing!
They brought me two tastes of wine to try, and I loved it. They are so kind, food was yummy too. Especially Magnolia is the best host.
No washroom on the main floor for seniors.
Fantastic fish and chips, not greasy or heavy. Whole family enjoyed their meals.
Was here on a date night with wife. Got the tuna sashimi and wasnt expecting what we got, but what we got was delicious. Would order that again. My main was the fish and chips. The tartar sauce alone was worth the dish. Had to order it extra to finish off the fish and chips. Wife had the mushroom pasta and that was also delicious. Wasnt too busy on the Monday night we went. Would recommend to come here if youre ever in the area
Time flashed by as we ate well and the sangria flowed. Rarely miss a photo op, but the sangria was flowing. Excellent meal with great service. Felt we hung around a little late but staff were fine.
It was our first time eating here and we LOVED it!! My partner is a celiac and the variety of gluten free meals was amazing. Our server was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back :)
We were visiting Canada from the UK & went on a road trip so we decided to stop here for some lunch and it was the best decision we made. Everything about this place is amazing. The food is unmatched (especially the prawns ) and you couldn t fault their service in any way. Definitely recommend!
Great restaurant in the heart of Kingston offering delicious seafood dishes and great draft beer. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great and supports a fantastic dining experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
Really good lobster rolls wow.
Sat on the patio. Pleasant but a bit of a tight fit. Extremely good service. Food was excellent. Will return at every opportunity. Parking: This is at the centre of Kingstons downtown waterfront. Can get real busy on holidays and weekends, but theres lots of street parking within a short walk.
Becarefull with the steak Ordered the 16 oz rib eye bone in steak, medium rare . I dont think that was near 16 oz or even a rib eye. Very thin sliced, maybe sirloin or any other steak, shouldve been thicker with some marble fat . Wasnt grilled, no grill mark was shown. They were busy, so I didnt bother to complain. On the other side my wife enjoyed her 2 pice of fish, and the host was very nice.
Very nice setting, clean. Server was very friendly. Food was very good and served quickly. For the cost, the fish and chip portions could have been a bit larger. Crab dip appetizer was very tasty.
On the website, was like a pet friendly, but isnt. When I arrived with my family, the lady was too rude when I asked, that I lost my desire to eat in this place.
My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant for dinner on a Saturday evening and had a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the Al Pastor Shrimp, Fish Tacos, and Fish & Chips. We also recommend trying their craft sodas, such as Root Beer or Cream Soda from The County Soda Company in Picton, as they complemented our meal perfectly. Although we were too full to try dessert this time, were definitely planning to come back for it. The service was exceptional, with a warm and friendly atmosphere that made our evening even more enjoyable. This restaurant has quickly become our top choice in Kingston, and we cant wait to return!
FOOD WAS VERY DELICIOUS. MUST TRY AND WE WILL VISIT AGAIN! I suggested this place to my whole family and we tried it for the first time. It was during good friday, YES THEY ARE OPEN. The food did not dissapoint any of us. If we will to ranked the food, the best would be the linguine pasta, fish and chips, fish tacos, mussels and the least fav would be the seafood poutine. Service is fast and everyone is very nice and professional. They will genuinely take care of you. They attended all our our requests which maybe hard sometimes since we are a big group but they accommodate us well. Washroom is clean but stairs to the washroom needs sweeping. Parking would be challenging cause its downtown.
Best Steak ever ... so good . Great service too . Food
We, had the fish & chips. I have finally found the BEST F&C in Kingston. The light batter that they use is excellent. We will be back for more. The staff were friendly and well trained.
The food and location were fantastic. However be prepared for relatively high prices for smaller portions.
The food is very fresh and tasty, the taco shell was soft other than crispy but I do prefer this texture. The sauce on the Baja fish taco is such a well balance of sourness and spice
We had a wonderful lunch with great friends. The foods was amazing and love the drinks, best Margaritas. We felt we were on some beach south. Kate, our server was fantastic.
Super friendly service, fish chowder and lobster rolls are a must.
Very expensive
Always enjoy coming here when in Kingston. Best tacos and fish and chips you will ever eat. Lobster cakes are to die for!!! Service is always top notch Food : 5/5 |
For somebody who s is super ocd, I loved everything about this place from the moment we walked in. Family of 4. Kids under 10. The Caesar was perfect. Crab cakes, fish and chips, crab dip .exceeded my expectations. We are planning on stopping there on our way home from Quebec. Parking: Right across.
Not a fan. Definitely had better fish and shrimp.
Totally yummy and healthy food. Service was gr8. Tuesday night isnt busy downtown Ktown, at least that night. Looking forward to going back. Their burgers and fish and chips, judging from watching those of us eating these are also very good. They also do Uber. We went back, my kale salad with cranberries etc. was simply inedible with overpowering oily dressing, yuck so its hit and miss. Vegetarian options: The green salad was awesome
I had a nice cup of clam chowder and shared a Hokkaido Scallop Aguachile. The fish and chips were surprisingly lackluster, given the positive reputation of this restaurant. The cocktails tasted like pre-mix. Ill give Diannes a second chance, but for the $$$ I certainly hope it will be better next time.
We had chowders and shrimp tacos, the taste was great. The soup temperature was just warm, but it had great flavour
This has been my first time visiting a mexican restaurant and tasting Mexican food. I thoroughly enjoyed it a lot! I had smoky chicken tinga tostadas and shrimp al pastor taco.. they are delicious! Recommended
It was a great meal and I lived the atmosphere
Delicious food and excellent service !
Great fish&chips and fried fish sandwich!!
Came here with a large party of family. Lovely atmosphere and great food. Ive recently gone gluten free for health reasons and they were able to accommodate my requests. The food was very tasty I had the classic Diannes burger.
We ve never been to Diane s before. The online reservation system was great! The fella who greeted us and led us to our table was super. Our waitress was outstanding. The food was great: crab dip with grilled pita (amazing). Ordered a fish/shrimp and chip dinner. It was fantastic! The tartar sauce was terrific. I found the prices higher relative to the portion size but the quality was outstanding. The waitress bid us farewell after we paid, a waiter said goodbye and the fella who took us to our table wished us well. Folks that s how you do it! We were welcomed and embraced through the whole meal right to when we left. Great food and great service. Super job gang! Parking: Leave yourself time to find a spot
I was weary of this restaurant as it was my first visit. However, it met my expectations and then some. We were a party of 12 and the service was excellent. We had the black berry margarita and they were delicious. I ordered the fish and shrimp with fries. More than enough food, arrived hot and was delicious as well. We will return. Thank you for a great dining experience!
Have enjoyed this place previously but it seems to have gone downhill. We had 4 in our party for dinner. 1 non drinker and 3 drinks each for rest of our party and bill came out to just under $400. Thats with 2 of us just having ordinary fish and chips which were very small portions. Our server was not attentive at all. We waited for service and drinks more than a few times. While he was pleasant enough we were truly disappointed as we had ordered coffee and dessert and requested they come at same time. Coffee arrived and 20 minutes later desserts came out. Needless to say coffee was done and he missed one of our friends desserts who just canceled it. When we complained to server that we asked for coffee and dessert at same time he apologized and said he is slammed but there were only 8 other people in restaurant with other servers. Diannes is charging like a high end restaurant but hand towels are just sitting on top of dispenser in bathrooms. If you want to charge high end dollar then you should provide high end service and atmosphere. Very disappointed
Love the food sold here!
Very bland fish chowder it would make down easy folks cringe. Positive was wonderful waitress.
Great food, Blackberry Margarita is a must try.
Fish and chips were very good. The beef brisket and fish tacos were good as well, but the shells were too small for the fillings. A larger shell would make it less messy to eat and more satiating. Love the old building and the very generous entry door, but we were seated in the corner by the front door and despite the heater on the ledge, it was on the cool side. Otherwise, an enjoyable experience.
It s very worth to try, we ordered lobster rolls and fish&chips. The salad is the best salad I ever tried. The only complaint is the size is not heavy enough considering the price. But the fish is fresh , lobster is fresh as well.
Crab dip was awesome as were the fish tacos Service was top notch Food
See food at its perfection.
The food was fresh and delicious. The staff were kind, and hard working. Came back a second time this year, equally as awesome and delicious. Those who complain about fair market price on seafood is hilarious...this is not KFC. The portions are beyond fair. And those who complain for having to wait 15 minutes for seating are impatient, and do not understand that you cant just roll up to a restaurant and demand seating for large parties out of the blue...its called a reservation; you missed out, because this place is fantastic. My only complaint is that this restaurant isnt closer to my house.
Got the fish and chips. They were sad, soggy, and poorly cooked. The fries were equally as disappointing. For the price, it was a huge flop. Not a great look for a seafood restaurant. Severs were great though.
Beware. If you don t like spicy food do not order the steak. The first one was cooked perfect but over kill on the spices. As much as I don t like to complain at a restaurant I had to ask for a new one. Second one was over cooked and still a bit spicy. Salad was ok. Hardly any dressing and the bacon was like little pebbles. I probably won t be back. Thankfully Atomica and Black dog are great restaurants. Service was good
