Lay Low Cafe in Kingston

Great place for a brunch, but can be really busy. They dont take reservations but they will contact you when a spot opens up, in my case was 30 mins. The no laptop use policy helps make this process easier. Eggs benny was well done and enjoyed the way the potatoes were made with the bacon. Strongly recommend this place if you have the time.

Everything was perfect rt down to the excellent coffee with free refills, perfect egg, artisan toast, crispy bacon (ask for that) and homefries with bacon bits (never seen or heard of that before) yum yum. I highly recommend this cafe and look forward too returning for their interesting lunch menu.

Stopped by for a smoothie and let s just say that I m addicted to the Strawberry glaze!!! It has date and strawberry sauce and coconut that all make it such a yummy combo!! It s not overly sweet and I really like it!!

A lovely little brunch spot in Kingston.

Food was pretty good, I got the chorizo egg breakfast wrap and a side of bacon potatoes. The wrap was nothing special, I could def make one the exact same at home, but the potatoes were delicious! Very great selection of food and beverages so I will definitely be back to try more things!

the food is really expensive and not good, i got the smoothie and it was not good. came with the intention of studying, but i asked one waitress and she said it was fine. next one came along and said they didn t have wifi for a reason a and it was not allowed. dropped a lot of money and couldn t even study. situated close to queens but not student friendly

Maple cinnamon oat latte was incredible!!!

Food was very mediocre and the servings were tiny relative to what I paid. The environment was very nice, but I fear this place emphasizes style over substance. I wouldn t come back here.

Dirty place, hair in food, and the order didnt come at all as requested with allergy items included in the plate and they had the audacity to make me pay the bill although we didnt touch the food!

Very nice spot in a great location! Food is very good and so are the cocktails! Unfortunately the service lets the place down and its clear management needs to do a better job training and ensuring servers are pleasant and inviting to customers. A smile goes a long way!

If you re looking for a brunch place with incredible drinks, you should come here!! The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. My only piece of feedback is that the eggs Benedict only has a very small drizzle of hollandaise, to the point where it s basically just a dry poached egg on an English muffin. If you re an eggs benny fanatic, this might not be the place! They re very good with making vegetarian substitutions, and generally this is a fantastic new addition to the Kingston brunch scene! A must try!

Ordered a classic waffle and an iced lavender latte. Iced lavender latte was delicious, though not particularly lavender-y. The waffle was yummy, if a bit dense. Would have liked more toppings considering the price (18 dollars for a single waffle). Service was wonderful - staff were friendly and attentive, and willing to work with special requests. Its a comfortable place, with fun gay-pop music and lots of live plants. Would go again!

Lovely patio on a walking only street, coffee was excellent and I loved every part of my cowboy breakfast! Highly recommend

The breakfast is very average and not worth the price in my opinion. Small portions, food is cooked with little consistency and takes quite a long time.

Have you ever just closed your eyes after a bite, and felt like the world was perfect for that one moment? That was my experience with the beet salad. Snuck my phone under the table to message my favourite chef, in an attempt to share the moment with someone who would truly get it. I hope you do too. Thanks for such a lovely brunch. The matcha latte was also stellar!!

Atmosphere is nice, and pretty interior. The food however was quite disappointing. We found portions to be quite small. The caesar wrap did not have croutons and the sauce tasted a little off. The eggs in the biggy were cold and toast portion was tiny. The cowboy breakfast had beans that tasted like vinegar - would not recommend. We enjoyed the coffees.

Beet salad was huge and hearty, made even better with extra dressing. I loved the extra spice of the siracha - this is the perfect salad for a cozy fall day.

The apple taste was pretty strong with the Caramel Apple Crumble Latte, which wasn t great but it still was ok but the chicken BLT was delicious

Nice looking place but the food was not very good. Service was unfortunately quite bad. The server got our order wrong, they brought something we didn t order, when we tried to give it back they insisted we keep it and that it was on them, and then charged us for it at the end of our meal. They also brought the wrong sides and then just never fixed it. Strange and unprofessional experience.

Nice cafe in downtown Kingston. I had the egg white omelette and also waffles which were great (sorry no photo of it). Overall, id recommend to check out during your visit.

The service at Lay Low is consistently warm and friendly without being overbearing. The food is delicious and fresh. I feel the pricing isn t commensurate with portion sizes and that the value for money is slightly off. A small blip in amongst all the pros of this fantastic cafe.

Best breakfast cafe Ive found in a very long time! Delicious food, beautiful environment, great location, lovely patio. I cannot wait to come back! Do not miss out on their loaded hash browns they were to die for. If you like Toast and Jam, Pan Cancho, or Aqua Terra for breakfast you will love it here! Slightly on the more expensive side of breakfast locations but 100% worth the price for good food and service. Vegetarian options: Available! Not only was the food delicious, it looked so beautiful as well! The servers here were super nice, and the atmosphere was gorgeous. Great place for a brunch with family, friends, and loved ones.

Lay Low offers an enjoyable brunch experience, not because the food is necessarily spectacular, but because the atmosphere, design, and service curate that particular brunch vibe. The interior is intentionally reminiscent of a downtown Toronto brunch spot. You can order coffee for takeout or get a table to sit in. For a group of six friends, we only waited about 20 minutes for an 11am brunch spot. I found that the food was hit or miss and slightly underwhelming. For their prices, I was expecting better presentation of the plates. For example, to add cheese is an additional $3 charge; its addition to the Biggie plate was a disappointment. The eggs benny also seemed criminally skimpy. Though, good things were said about the chorizo wrap and the egg white omelet. Overall, the food itself wasn t bad; in fact, it tasted pretty decent, but I wouldn t be picking it over other brunch places in Kingston.

This is a place the people want to be. It was packed for a weekday lunch. Staff was friendly and the drinks were intriguing, they have a juicer. I gave the food a 3 star due to ordering the egg benedict that sounded like a full plate meal. Instead it was very small and under whelming. Yet it cost more than the massive sandwich that was also ordered.

I had the best caesar salad! Like am not even kidding, its probably the best I have ever had. However, the menu didnt state adding chicken would cost an extra $7, might be best to either inform the customer or add to menu. But overall great experience!

My daughter and I decided on this place for lunch yesterday. We both had one of the sandwiches. Absolutely delicious. As we waited for our food we noticed the waffles going to another table. So this morning we went there for breakfast and ordered the waffles. They were also delicious. Staff was friendly and prompt. Would definitely recommend Lay Low Cafe.

From the moment you walk in, its very evident that they have put their heart into this business. This morning, we were greeted with a warm smile and our experience just continued to get better. The unique menu, the ambience, and the service, was spot on, and I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday brunch at Lay Low. Our server Lily was exceptional and was always smiling. Her enthusiasm radiated into her service and lead to a lovely conversation as we were paying the bill. I look forward to our next visit :)

Our table got the waffles and the granola bowl. The waffles were really good, it was a great portion size and the berries were very flavorful and added juice to the waffles. Mostly huckleberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Real maple syrup too. Granola had two flavors we couldnt put our finger on but they went really well together. It was a vegan dish, so the yogurt was coconut yogurt, which has a distinct coconut flavor but has the same texture and creaminess as dairy yogurt. Atmosphere was light and cheerful, the whole place had plants and felt very open. Overall, I highly recommend! Would be great for breakfast, brunch or lunch, especially if youre looking for something a bit more snazzy. Vegetarian options: Most dishes were vegetarian or could be made so easily; a lot were vegan. All clearly labeled on the menu.

Amazing space, service and food!

This place is very busy, so you might want to reserve a table. Food is delicious and they have the best Chai latte in the city! Staff are great and service was fast considered how busy they were at 1pm on a Thursday. It is loud, so if you are you looking for somewhere to have a quiet conversation, this isnt it.

I was quickly visiting Kingston (grew up here but have since moved away) and saw this cafe had opened. Immediately knew I needed to try it! Can easily say it s one of the best new restaurants to open in the city in the last several years. The space is beautiful, food is fantastic, and service was quick and lovely (despite being busy). They were also able to easily cater to dietary restrictions (gluten-free, vegan etc.). Bit of a wait on Sundays but the staff were able to accommodate everyone within 45 minutes. Worth the wait! I ll definitely be back on my next visit.

This is a really great new addition to Kingston. The food is exceptional and creative. This place gets very busy after 11:30AM. People do study here, but it may be best to get here early if you want to just sit and eat because the tables do fill up quickly. You can also go in and just get a take out coffee if things are busy

Great brunch place! The vibes are very pleasant, the aesthetic is calming and heavy on earth tones and plants. There is a brunch and lunch menu with a nice variety of options (although more options without bacon/pork would be appreciated). The servers are fast and friendly. Ive been 3-4 times and strongly recommend their hot matcha lattee and vegetarian grilled cheese and chicken balsamic sandwich. Accessibility: 2 steps to get inside/no ramp, noise level - moderate, vegetarian options available.

Absolutely incredible location, such a calming environment, the staff were amazing and knowledgable about the menu, my eggs, Benedict was hands-down, my favourite I ve ever gotten, and I will definitely be returning Kid-friendliness: They were awesome with our two-year-old buddy, and had toys for him to play with!

Food was great, more catered towards vegan, health conscious crowds. Was very busy when we went so the service was a little slow but thats ok. Place is also very loud with a full house, it could benefit from some sound deadening features on the walls and ceiling.

Decent brunch spot- but definitely not best you can get downtown. Some staff were very friendly, and the coffee was pretty good. Food was served warm and very quickly which was a plus! Unfortunately, in my opinion not a lot of flavour.

Fantastic experience! Ordered the Maple Bacon and Omelet Sandwiches, and they did not disappoint . delicious and perfectly prepared. The omelet definitely surprised me! Definitely a five-star spot. Highly recommend!

I tried a new place with regret and was not satisfied. Fruits, cream and syrup were scarce. It was also very dry.

The drinks were okay, the decoration is nice. However, the server was a bit rude and pushing us. We had an appointment with a customer that day, so we had orders for 3 people then enjoyed our conversation. But the server kept coming to us to ask if we wanted to order more food or drinks. 1 or 2 times is understandable, but she came to us like 4-5 times, at some point it felt like she just wanted us to leave. If the shop was busy, I can understand. But no, it was a late afternoon on weekday, so there were several empty tables. I dont think I will come back any time soon after this experience.

What a great ambiance! The interior is warm and inviting without any clutter; the servers are friendly and engaging; the food is delicious! Enjoyed a few lovely meals there this winter and have recommended Lay Low to our friends & family. We look forward to enjoying it in summer!

We were excited to try a new brunch place and were not disappointed. Service, food and price were pretty much on par with our other fav brunch places Aqua Terra, Pan Chancho and Northside and it definitely has the nicest decor/vibe. We will be back but brunch for 2 put us back almost 80 bucks. Uggh eating out has gotten so expensive - wed love to go out more - we are so lucky in Kingston to have so many great spots like Lay Low. The coffee and home fries were great - our main brunch asks. The menu was interesting and had vegan and gf options as well as standard favs like eggs benny. Would like to see more local products and produce used. In all would recommend.

My husband and I went this morning for a celebratory breakfast. Wonderful ambiance. Big, bright picture windows bring in lots of sunshine. The decor is lovely! The waffles fantastic. Will have to come back and try some of their other dishes!

Weekend visit, dropped in for lunch, menu looks great, space & service was comfortable & swift. The fresh juice blend was tasty but came with ice, which was odd (to me) never thought it would be. I ordered The nest, had a perfectly poached egg but the potato nest was very overcooked so no flavour, kale also way over done. Great idea though - and as they work out kinks wld try other things!

Really nice spot to go if you want to have brunch and hangout with people. The waiters are very nice and the menu has a large variety of options which represent all types of dietary requirements. The only thing I dislike is the place being seemingly always overcrowded. In the sense that even during the week theres so many people you even struggle getting up. With that being said, the place remains one of the nicest coffee shops in Kingston

Its definitely a beautiful space. It was a little cramped in the chairs, with staff accidentally bumping into us often. Eggs Benny was good but a little sweet! Id come back though and try something else or just enjoy a coffee in the nice space!

Fantastic addition to DT Kingston! The decor is great, vibes are just right. Staff were super nice. Food and drinks were amazing. Have been a few times now and tried a few of their coffees (cappuccino, flat white, iced tiramisu latte), and food off both their breakfast and lunch menus - everything was amazing!! And don t miss out on the fresh juices either (one with the beet was awesome)! A 10/10 must go for locals and visitors alike!

The ambiance was great. Very busy on a Sunday but the server was very attentive. Great service from the host too. The drinks were great. We had the flat white and the tiramisu latte. Food was nicely presented and came out fast despite being busy; unfortunately they were underwhelming. They had so many ingredients in them but lacked flavor. My salads orange dressing with basil just had a sugary orange taste. However I am willing to return to try their fresh-pressed juices and some other food items.

First time at Lay Low and had a great experience! Was around 12pm but we were both feeling breakfast so fortunately they had a great brunch menu. More of a sit-down brunch restaurant but still could easily grab a coffee and a snack from the cafe at the back. Food was great! Would recommend anything with the homefries!

New fav coffee spot in town!

Tried as a new breakfast venue. Service was just ok as being a breakfast spot a second coffee would have been typical but no offer of a 2nd coffee made even though we would have happily paid. The menu is very limited and having chosen a waffle, you might expect it to be well prepared but was the texture of a frozen one which of course it wasnt.. The fruit was an extremely meagre portion, the real maple syrup was real but the portion was miniscule. Was disappointing.

$18 for a cold, 6-inch sandwich cannot be normalized as perfectly priced. The chicken sandwich I got had cold meat!!!. sure I can eat cold chicken breast here and there, but if your description says Grilled Chicken, I expected it to be hot and juicy, not Cold and Dry. And the worst part was the cold chicken skin and fat, it was absolutely gross to swallow that. You gotta have more interesting dishes than plain sandwiches, and waffle fries. It is obvious yall spent a lot of money on the reno, may I suggest you spend a little more to hire some good chefs?

Solid coffee (Lavazza) and good bites. The atmosphere is fantastic; a really lovely place to spend an hour or two. Oh, and highchairs for the kiddos. Surely a go-to spot for us moving forward!

So pretty! Food and coffee is amazing and the service is even better. I got the eggs benedict and my partner got the chilli eggs, so amazing and kept us full for ages. Can t wait to come back next time in Kingston

I visited the place because its a new one in the city and from the moment i came in it was such a mess everywhere... they took forever to take our order then the cuttlery was dirty i had to clean in with my own wipes... afterwards went to the bathroom and notice that the kitchen was so dirty that i couldnt even eat my food thinking that it was made there.... i will never come again and definately will not recommend this place.

I went to LayLow with my family on the weekend. We all ordered an abundance of food/ drinks and enjoyed every second of our experience! We had the Chilli eggs, a few vegan options, and the burrito. The food was presented well and tasted even better - the potato s are a must! Will definitely be back! Vegetarian options: Lots of variety ! Dietary restrictions: Vegan options were fabulous Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible washroom on the first level with wheelchair height sink.

the experience was the same each time I have been. The service was wonderful, food is amazing and very aesthetically pleasing along with the environment of the cafe. The Biggie breakfast was very filling and the potatoes that come with it are excellent! The lattes are never a disappointment! Beautiful spot, but food is sub par at best and nothing special. Have been here twice now, the first time had the avocado smash. Bland and plain, no flavour. Second time, walked in with my husband and he was being polite and held the door for some other people and they butt right in front of us and took the table we were waiting for. When I told the server this, there was a lack of acknowledgement. Waited 10 minutes for two lattes and they were cold. Service is meh. My Dad asked what the baked goods were and the server told him that he could get up and go and look. It s also very loud and you can barely hear each other over the noise. Won t be back anytime soon. You re better off going to Northside just up the street.

I was really hopeful that it would be a positive experience, but the whole visit was disappointing: Food poisoning. Expensive. Dirty cutlery. Rude staff. Long wait. Our entire party got food poisoning (two of the guests were friends from out of town). This is the first time I ve ever gotten sick from a restaurant in Kingston and it s horrifying. I would be less upset if it wasn t for the fact that the little one was so sick we actually had to take her to the hospital for dehydration. The outside is littered with cigarettes because the cooks smoke beside the building and toss them on the ground. It s a shocking way to treat your community. What a joke. Wheelchair accessibility: We ve found North Side and Toast + Jam more accommodating. We didn t have a wheel chair with us but one of the members of our party have mobility issues and they found it really challenging to move through the space. Our friends took their littles before us, and they said that the staff seemed annoyed by the stroller.

The food is delicious and different than a lot of basic meal options found in other Kingston breakfast spots. The atmosphere is literally one of the nicest places in Kingston. The cocktails are great, I ve had the espresso martini which is my favourite! Can t wait to go again with my friends!

I ve been to Lay low twice now and the service is great and the atmosphere is so welcoming. They have hands down the best music for any restaurant in Kingston I ve been to (very groovy) and the food was really good! I had the soup and the BLT sandwich. I highly recommend the BLT because it so filling, flavourful and the waffle fries are better than Chick-fil-A. If you are looking for a sign to go check it out, here s your sign!

Brand new restaurant. Staff are working out the kinks so be patient. Food was amazing. Coffee was also delicious. Definitely a place to hit when the weather isn t kind! I would have taken a picture of the chicken sandwich before I took a bite but it looked too good to wait. The waffle fries were perfect!

My daughter was looking forward to a hot chocolate and ended up not drinking it because it tasted like warm milk. I had a muffin that was both sweet and savoury and I didnt finish it either. The Chai was a bit of a let down as well. The space is nice and the staff seem cool, but theyre gonna have to step it up if theyre gonna compete with the other breakfast spots in town.

Food was fine, but it was one of the few times I had brunch out and thought I could have made this at home. Service very nice and friendly, and a bustling atmosphere. A great addition to Kingston, to be sure, but Im not sure Ill be returning.

Had a great time and highly recommend, especially if you like to take photos of your food and the décor. Only issues are that it took 40 minutes to get our food and they only offer maple bacon, so savoury meals still end up sweet (but that s a personal dislike). Pleasantly surprised. Food portions are larger than the pictures show. Potatoes were the best part, fluffy and delicious. Staff was very nice. All had cool sweaters. A little pricey, but I think I just have a cheap bias.

The food is very good in the service was good as well but the kitchen took an hour to make our breakfasy and forgot one of the meals I am giving them five stars bc they are new but the kitchen needs to get food out quickly if you are having breakfast. We should not need to spend 90 minutes to have breakfast

The atmosphere was nice. I noticed many workers but only one who appeared to be actually working. Food was decent. Service was poor, nobody checked on my group or refilled our water jug. Saw people on their phones while working.
