2 Cataraqui St, Kingston, ON K7K 1Z6, Canada
Fancy, waterfront eatery in a historic building since 1985 preparing refined, locally sourced meals.
This is a very nice place. It was a little off-putting when I sent an e-mail to reserve a table and received a one word reply: “confirmed” but when we got there, all the staff were lovely and Anthony, our server was exceptional! The Caesar salad is the real deal but just a little too light dressing-wise. The calamari, Gouda balls and the scallops were great, as was the Gnocchi Carbonara which you could tell were house-made. The desserts were good too - dulce de leche cheesecake and dark chocolate torte. The cappuccino was nice too. The view of the river is nice.
Ordered 2 items from the menu. The grilled salmon & Steak and frites. 1) Salmon was not fresh. Salad was ok. 2) Steak was a terrible cut. Was not cut and trimmed correctly. Silver skin and gristle was not Removed. Steak measured approximately 3.5" x 3.5" x 3.5" Not a chef on this planet could make those steaks any other way then wrong. Going to go to Jack Astors next time I'm in Kingston.
We reserved a place in the restaurant for 30 people. Food were all so good, from the salad to dessert. Overall, we had an excellent experience. Staff were all so great. Thank you!
Each meal is an experience. C’est incroyable ! The service personal provide information on every dish which makes dining all the more interesting. But most importantly, the atmosphere is relaxing and quiet with soft music. It is a rare experience to have an easy conversation with other people at the table. So many restaurants have blaring music - and I also like those restaurants. But the quiet is wonderful 😎
Delicious and tasty dishes. Good local products. Sophisticated and well balanced. Our waiter was funny and thoughtful. It was all worth it.
One of the best restaurants in Kingston. The Wagyu Beef Burger is one of the most delicious I've tried. The potato leek soup was very tasty too. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. There are gluten free options too which is great for my wife. It's right next to the lake so in the summer you could enjoy the patio as well.
Five of us went to lunch today to celebration my sons 21st birthday. Our server was fantastic (I didn’t get his name but a genuinely nice chap with a wonderful sense of humour). The River Mill is in a beautiful location and although the weather was wet and miserable the setting was beautiful and peaceful. I have a lot of allergies including being Gluten intolerant and I had the best, most tastiest meal that I have ever had the pleasure of eating and the rest of my table agreed that their food was by far the best that their taste buds have experienced so far. If I could rate 100 stars I would but alas I’m only able to choose 5!! Thank you River Mill for helping (and singing) George celebrate his birthday 🎉
FANTASTIC DINING EXPERIENCE. We went for our Valentines Dinner. Our waiter Chris was outstanding. He knew when to talk and when not. :-) He explained all menu items and wine very well. We enjoyed the fresh made Caesar salad at the table - prepared by Chris. My vegetarian mushroom ragu was outstanding, my partner's steak was prepared to perfection, we each enjoyed two different kinds of wine and the icing on the cake was one of the best espresso I have ever had. ( I travel to Europe a lot and can really compare.)
Good ambience, delicious food and fantastic service!
A nice lunch, good for business meetings. Have been several times and will return.
Beautiful dining room with a waterfront view. Duck Confit with salad (the salad with the cut oranges, pecans and raspberry vinaigrette was one of the best salads I have ever) was superb. Baiding Grey was extremely helpful.l
We had a group of 30 people, for my wifes 30th Queens University reunion. Staff was very attentive organized and took care of us Great experience! Food : 5/5
Allie was amazing! Unfortunately, we didnt dine, but the drinks and the outstanding service will bring us back! Thank you for the hospitality and tips around town. Hope to see you again!
Booked private room. Great setup for guest. Had our own menu with additional special diet people. Meals were excellent. Great service from Greg and Ally. Vegetarian options: Prepared special pasta for vegetarian. Dietary restrictions: Had person on KETO diet. No problem. Parking: Right outside restaurant in front.
Simply a lovely place to dine . Easy parking and a wonderful view outside while eating a delicious selection of meal choices. Staff are friendly and efficient!
Nice restaurant with very friendly service, varied menu and good quality food. Priced well for the quality. Servings are good for a fine dining place. Lots of parking onsite.
Our favorite restaurant for as long as weve lived in Kingston. Still excellent every single time. Highly recommended.
Great menu and service
I was incredibly disappointed as one meal was missing ingredients and we only found out once it was served, and my margarita was severely over salted. It is a beautiful restaurant with amazing views, my server was fabulous and the food was definitely top quality; however, I was again very disappointed that the one dish only had meat and no fixings that were mentioned under the description. When you spend nearly $200 for a special occasion dinner, you just expect to receive what you have ordered, or an accommodation if there is missing menu items. Our starter, the scallops were the highlight of the evening. The chef is incredibly talented.
This was the second time I have held an event (12-14 people) at the River Mill. I cannot say enough about the high level of service and high quality of food. On both occasions, people raved about their meals and Anthony led the team of servers who all gave impeccable service. It will be my choice in the future not only for work events but also family celebrations. Thank you for making our celebration memorable. See you again soon!
River Mill is a personal long-time favorite dining experience that I always regret not frequenting more, each time a get there.
The food was mediocre. They substituted pasta for soba noodles. One person at our table was served her lamb alone on a plate and the risotto came 10 minutes later. Ten people at our table, no one else in the restaurant, so I don t believe the food quality or food not arriving together at the table was due to a rush in the kitchen. We definitely will not return. Unfortunate.
We just attended a venue at the River Mill and everything was on point. It was a small gathering of 15 people and the service was spectacular, the food was delish, and the desserts were excellent. I had the beet salad, the steak was tender and cooked to perfection, and the creme brulee was exquisite. I will add that am a foodie and a bit of a critic when it comes to dining out but Im extremely pleased to say this spot exceeded all of my expectations. Super job all and keep up the great work! A special thanks to Tyler for his professionalism and outstanding service!! If youve not been there, its well worth the visit. The ambience and location are both great too!
Lunch was spectacular. Our server, Anthony, was great as was his co-worker. Highly recommend the liver for those that like it. Best I have ever had in a restaurant
Outstanding from our service with the Balding guy (Gregg). Food and presentation. Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection. Hats off to kitchen. Thank you Colin and staff for making New years special. We will see you soon.
13 people for a family Birthday dinner and the food/service was great! Thank you for making it a lovely evening
Yummy, awesome, elegant, spacious, quiet and very harmonious reclusive setting along the river with huge windows. I like everything about this place! Cant wait to experience their new patio.
Another fabulous meal!
We had a wonderful experience dining at this restaurant. The service was outstanding. Robin (the waiter) was friendly and attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was enjoyable. He offered great recommendations.
I love this place. Super nice. Great service and great foods. Dine in or at the patio, both are enjoyable..
Fabulous anniversary dinner. For years, this has been our favourite restaurant and they always exceed expectations. Ordered the duck spring rolls to start. They were amazing. Super crispy due to the rice paper wrap. They are always attentive to my allergies. The chef even made a special marsala mushroom sauce for my fillet mignon which was next level! Amazing. It really says something when the staff have been there for years. Colin and Chris are always welcoming. Cant wait to return with friends for lunch.
Was an awesome lunch, and their service was amazing , highly recommend
Wait Staff excellent
My wife and I were very early patrons of The River Mill, and we were also one of the first couple to have our wedding reception here in 1990. 33 years later we took our 27 and 21 year old daughters here for dinner last night and it was an amazing meal. Perfectly seared scallops and Branzino, delicious duck confit and beef tenderloin. House made desserts with the best creme brulee Ive had in a long time.
Food not that great Also expensive and not worth the money Service that day was really slow and things was missing. Wouldnt recommend it Food : 3/5 |
We had a wonderful appetizer, meal, drinks, and wine. Waiter suggested an excellent wine to match dinner. Service was prompt.
We enjoyed great service and atmosphere and the food was out of this world. Carbonara and beef tenderloin was amazing. Wheelchair accessibility: Very accessible for people with disabilities
Fantastic spot in Kingston by the water. This is the type of place you can go to escape the bustle of Princess street, without comprising service. The team here is fantastic, and their ability to produce exceptionally tasty food is incredible. Only warning, is that there is no formal bar space, so book your reso and youll be set! Dietary restrictions: They are very flexible in how they manage their food, producing tasty alternatives for anything you choose.
We came as part of a Spa package with Dolce Bella Spa. We arrived about 29 mins early, but they were still able to accommodate us. We had such excellent service. All of the staff was friendly. We had to choose our menu items ahead of time, unfortunately they ran out of fish and chips for my partner. They apologized and offered him anything on the menu which was so generous sohe ended up getting the mussels pasta. I did as well. It was delicious. The portion was just right. They really took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered the black forest cake for dessert. I usually dont like black forest, but I enjoyed the gelee and some cherry chunks on the bottom. It wasnt too overpowering for me. It was just the right amount of sweetness as well. I asked the server if they can put a candle on the dessert as we were celebrating my partners bday and to be very discreet about it and she did just that. It was such a beautiful place and they seated us right by the window with a view. Thank you for making our lunch so special
Held small wedding The staff was helpful Location was great Food was fantastic Food : 5/5 |
Great place! Will definitely be back! They couldnt have been any more helpful!
Food was very good but not hot.
We celebrated the marriage between our Son and Daughter-in-law at The RiverMill Restaurant. What a fantastic day we had. The food was delicious, our guests repeatedly mentioned the quality of the meal and I can t say enough about the staff. They were so lovely and made the venue so much more personal by their friendly and gracious attitudes. Thank you so much. Colin was great to liaise with before and during the wedding. They coordinated with our Wedding Planner Heather at Bowtied with Love seamlessly. Colin was so accommodating, letting us make changes to the menu and providing the chairs for the ceremony held by the River. The most wonderful thing was that the venue felt like home rather than an impersonal wedding venue.
We came here for our wedding anniversary and started with a small antipasti platter, which was a joy for the eye and palate. Our (lunch) mains were a Wagyu medium rare beef burger and a Chicken bacon ranch salad; which were perfect. Afterwards we shared a carrot cake. Wait staff were friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. Definitely will return.
Lovely to sit by the water and have a meal and/or drink. Wendy our server was so great, everything you want from a server (friendly, attentive, thoughtful, gracious). The food was excellent, particularly the steak frites with sweet potatoe fries!, as well as the mussels in red sauce. Will be there again for sure. Thank you!
We returned to the Rivermill to celebrate a birthday with family. Unfortunately our fish meals (sea bass and arctic char) were not good. The arctic char had been frozen or perhaps just overcooked? It was served on a bed of cold unremarkable quinoa. The sea bass was served on a bed of strongly flavoured couscous stew that masked the delicate flavour of the fish. Not a suitable combination. We will not return to the Rivermill as we have been there a number of times with mixed results. It s an expensive venue with inconsistent meals.
Great food and service always! Thanks!
Food,staff and venue were great.
Great food, really good service. A bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it. Perfect amount of volume, easy parking, right near the water to go for a little stroll after dinner and just far enough away from the busy downtown area.
This was the first outing we had with one of our family members being in a wheelchair. We were met at the front door by Anthony, our server for the evening. He made sure we were comfortable at our table with the chair. He was pleasant, kind and thoughtful. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and the food. He explained the dishes well and made great suggestions. We greatly enjoyed our evening and would highly recommend both the restaurant, and our wonderful server.
Restaurant located in a classic building with a quiet setting. Recommended if you are in the neighborhood.
Great food, great service, great location. We emailed the restaurant with a special request and they accommodated us perfectly. Looking forward to returning!
This restaurant is consistently very good. The staff know the food and the wine and provide excellent service. I always leave looking forward to returning. They know how to provide a good dining experience.
Absolutely Amazing!!!
Five of us had lunch there yesterday March 23. Food was great. Great atmosphere lots of space, high ceilings and views of the Cataraqui River. We cannot wait till the waterfront patio is open.
Wonderful meal and great service.
High quality food, steak was cooked correctly. Staff was also friendly and polite. I got the steak and frites(fries), only feedback I have is I think this meal could have used some vegetables and been plated nicer like my dates scallops were.
Stale food and an outdated, slow, and backwards experience. The food is lukewarm and without taste (the give you salt and pepper shakers to try and add the basic amount of flavor to your food). The dishes seem to be from the 80 s and anyone who cooks using a recipe can do so much better. The service is terrible, slow, and just awkward. Would not recommend to anyone unless they have money to waste and want to be disappointed. Cannot stress how terrible the food is here.
Excellent lake view and service
I had a lovely experience here last weekend with some friends. Chris was a very helpful and sweet server (thank you!) and offered suggestions to what would pair well together. I got the Gouda Cheese Puffs, which were delectable, as well as the gnocchi! The food was excellent and the vibe was very low-key and calm.
The Dolce massage was amazing but do not include the River Mill Restaurant. We did and the scallops came cold so I sent the back and they were still luke warm. When I ask why I was told you can only reheat them so much. I was shocked. I know I have high expectations but even my daughter said she would not eat them. We have spent 24 years in Southern CA and I know my sea food, that is one item on any menu that you do not reheat. You plan and hopefully the chief knows how quick they cook and can serve them hot. For $25 cook 4 new scallops and serve when done. My daughters chicken wrap was dry and finally had to request bread and olive oil to add flavor. The one good thing was the soup of the day was pipping hot but had to wait to long after requesting bread to the for dipping in the soup. It was worth the extra $50 to have a bottle of Prosecco so we were relaxed for the massages. Thank goodness this was not my Mothers Day lunch/brunch. I would not recommend if you have a palate for taste. I hate writing reviews like this but would have for a special occasion to end in disappointment.
Short story: amazing food and impeccable service. Long story: planned on having our wedding here - plans fell through because of covid but our deposit was able to be put towards takeout meals. Every single meal was incredible and our host Colin was an absolute professional throughout the entire experience.
We were there for lunch, my mothers 90th birthday. The quality and presentation of the food saves this review from getting one star. Plus the friendliness of the staff. However, as is typical with this restaurant, we waited over an hour for our food, which we normally expect and can handle, but we had 2 people over 90 years of age, and they were very hungry and distressed. We were hoping that knowing we were having a 90th party some consideration would be granted at least to the two older guests. All of our orders were incorrect as well, and there were a lot of us ( almost 20), but the main restaurant was empty and the patio only had a couple of tables seated so I am not certain why the orders were so difficult. I expect that post pandemic it is hard to find experienced wait staff. But, they were courteous and apologetic. There are many restaurants to choose from that have a better overall experience. I was quite disappointed because my son had his wedding here in 2018 and it was a fab experience, although our dinner wasnt served until 830. Its a theme with this restaurant. I would recommend Aqua Terra over this site since the chef has changed there.
The Kingston Single Malt Society is here tonight for our monthly dinners. Stellar food and service as always.
One of the best spot in Kingston.
Excellent food and service
We had a grad dinner here as a party of fourteen. The food was excelent and our waiter Chris went above and beyond. 10/10 would go again.
Amazing staff, food and environment! Couldnt be more happy with our celebration. Thank all of the staff for being so incredible. Highly recommend for any event
Attended a retirement party. Chris our server was great! The beef medallion cooked to perfection. Great time and would recommend the group dinner selection three course meal.
I have never given 5 stars ...from what I can remember anyways. But I will give this place 4.9. The food is spectacular... you will want to hug and kiss the chef lol. The service is as good as the food. The views are also wonderful which makes the overall experience almost perfection. Honestly, the prices are reasonable as I expected the bill to be much more. I dont take cost into the equation when ordering as my belief is its relitive to experience, service and quality of food. This place is a must even when driving past Kingston ...make the stop. You will feel like Meg Ryan in that movie Lmbo
Great crab cake and elk steak. Highly recommend
Amazing food, outstanding service, I only wish they had gender inclusive washrooms.
Excellent lunch and wonderful service from Anthony. Beautiful patio. Highly recommended.
It was an absolute joy to work with the River Mill Restaurant for our 2022 wedding. Throughout the planning process, Colin was knowledgeable, helpful, and very accommodating of special requests. On the day of our wedding, Colin, Chris & staff provided exceptional service - our guests were never empty handed during cocktail hour and dinner service was even better! Our guests are still raving about the three course meal, which included a great variety of options that all tasted divine. My only regret is not being able to eat more of the late-night poutine & pizza! River Mill was not only part of our special day, but truly made it a spectacular event. Highly recommend for weddings & other private events!
Wonderful venue for a wedding! Colin is a great person to work with as well. I love providing service here and working with him.
Loved this place! On the water. The outdoor patio was so nice. So clean. Waiters amazing. Food outstanding. Just wow!
Just had our wedding here! Food was amazing, venue looked gorgeous, price was fair. The main contact (Chris?) that night did a freaking awesome job making sure things ran smoothly. They even ordered a special beer we had requested. Only point of constructive criticism is I feel communications could have been improved (picking wines and appetizers a few days before, no menu tasting was offered, dinner served much later than requested - which was okay since guests all said food was to die for). Overall though this was a fantastic place to host our wedding of 50ish people
We went on my 30th birthday last year, during COVID restrictions. The food was superb, and staff were very accepting and accommodating to my loud crowd. Truly loved the variety on the charcuterie board, and it was my first time trying gnocchi which this restaurant made me a true lover. Highly recommended!
Attended a small wedding reception here and the food was excellent, the service excellent, and the servers were more then happy to provide non-alcoholic, decaf, and vegetarian/vegan options. The decaf coffee was strong, excellent, and flavorful. The room was private and intimate and tables settings beautifully prepared, and located in a beautiful historic building.
We had an absolute fabulous time here. One of my pet peeves in restaurants is waiting and nagging to get water refills which was not a problem here. Wait staff constantly refilling our waters. Our food came appropriately timed, our very delicious steaks were cooked to order. Fries were delicious! It appeared all other patrons and staff were enjoying their time. Wait staff was very attentive, we were thoroughly impressed and plan to return. The staff worked hard and pleasant as a team. Marvelous place! Sit near a window and enjoy the view of the river! Go! You wont regret it!
Both the service and the food were excellent
Never been disappointed at The River Mill! Amazing chef. Still great!
Great place for a nice dinner. Colin is the greatest host . The 60 year server was amazing.
Amazing food for the price. Take out delivery due to Lockdown #2 Support your local businesses
Love the food, love the atmosphere. Always an incredible experience.
My wife and I went here for dinner first Saturday after moving to the green zone in kingston, the staff were all in great spirits, our waiter was super friendly and funny , we really enjoyed our time there. The food was fantastic! I had the flank steak with shrimp, the flavors were delicious! My wife loved here beef tenderloin as well. Cocktail menu could use a little touch , but otherwise great food and service will definitely be back again!
Great service and nice location
Great food, Great service.
Amazing food and service
Lovely patio, service and food!
Love this place and we always go there for all of our special occasions. Our server is always Chris and he is great!
We really enjoyed the service, view and the food was very good. Like an old style steak house.
Fantastic great serv
Great place, love the service, and the food is splendid if a little off the beaten trail. Definitely worth the trek out of downtown and you get a nice waterfront view from virtually the whole restaurant!
Food was good service was not. Little children had to wait for a long time for their food and they became restless. There was too much time between the meal and desert.
I am an extremely critical patron but my experience here was absolutely wonderful on every element. Our server Chris went above and beyond to pay attention to our every need. He knew our friends preferences by heart and from the heart! The food was hands down, the best Ive savoured and as I mention, Im quite a critic. I highly recommend this restaurant which has a great ambiance on top of all mentioned.
Over priced for the quality
Amazing place. Great food, great drinks and great staff. Couldnt have asked for a better evening. There is lots of choice in Kingston but this place is fantastic!
Wonderful! Great service, delicious food, beautiful patio overlooking the river. Highly recommend.
My go to for special occasions. Superb service and quality
Gorgeous restaurant with pleasant service. We had a mid-sized banquet room that was perfect for our party. The food was pretty tasty, but not blow-your-mind.
Great service, views and food. Highly recommend
Beautiful little treasure hidden in the heart of the city over looking the bay, amazing staff and a delightful menu, a bit expensive but you get what you pay for.
I have been here 3 times over the last year or so. Service has always been great. The menu and decor both feel a bit uninspired and out of date. The Caesar salad is excellent though. The location is very nice and the old building the restaurant resides in is a nice piece of Kingstonian history. For the price point, I would love to see some new and creative menu items in order to give a 5 star rating.
Went there for a work dinner, private room, fancy... and the wait staff was nice and there if you needed anything. I found the prices a bit high for what you get but the good was very good.
Came here for a Robby Burns dinner. They offered a 5 course meal and 6 pricey scotches in sniffers. I had a great time and would definitely come again.
Why bother?
Great fine dining experience! I would highly recommend The River Mill.
Loved the vibe and the food was stellar. Our servers approach totally made our experience.
Incredible food and great service. Our waiter was a jokester and you could tell everyone that works there is having a good time
We just went in for a couple drinks but we ended up getting some food as well. The mixed drinks were exquisite and the charcuterie board was impeccable. The gnocchi was a over-salted so I probably wouldnt order it again, but everything else was so delightful it made up for it.
Great food and cocktails, good service. Managing covid requirements well.
The River Mill never disappoints! Excellent menu choices, always beautifully prepared, and served by attentive friendly staff. Great wine list too!
Great night at the River mill once again. Supper was excellent and the gentlemen ensure attention e service. Highly recommended
Great food, great service and wonderful atmosphere.
Great location by the water, and exceptional food. The scallops were a standout from my personal experience.
Service was great for a party of about 30. Meat was overcooked but well seasoned and dessert was delicious. Would go again for sure.
Last night we booked the private room for our family of 5 to celebrate my son s birthday. Greg was our waiter/comedian. We had one of the best times as a family. Food, as always, was amazing and Greg was so much fun and just lightened our moods making the evening so special. We have special dietary issues and they accommodated is so well! Thanks Rivermill and Greg too!
Beautiful location. Never had a disappointing experience. Friendly, efficient staff.
Food always good and lunch service timely
We went for a big 30 birthday celebration dinner. The staff were great, food was delicious and the dinning area beautifu. I cant wait to go again during the day or at sunset. The view will be breathtaking.
Excellent food and service.
Wonderful dining experience with great staff. Food was delicious! Wonderful views of the River.
Where do I start.... I went here for my boyfriends work dinner party and the service was exceptional. The staff were professional, the food was amazing, and the overall dining experience was perfection. I definitely will be coming back here again! :)
Excellent meal and service!!
The River Mill Restaurant is a go-to destination for anyone visiting Kingston. Set right on the bay in Kingston, it is beautifully situated for sight-seeing the lights in the area. It has a calming atmosphere and the decor is fitting of the beautiful building that it is in. The service was above par throughout our meal. I enjoyed the Salmon which was really moist and delicious throughout and the wheat berry underneath complimented the salmon really well, giving the meal a great texture.
Excellent restaurant, one of the best meals I have had in years
Great Mothers Day brunch.
Great food
The food was exquisite and Greg our waiter made our evening fun!
Came here with my family after a university convocation. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming, and each table had a beautiful view of the River. Our waiter was super funny and nice, such great service. The food was also AMAZING!! Would definitely recommend the place to my family and friends.
A beautiful location but the food was absolutely awesome, starters were excellent, the main was the best steak Ive ever had, the dessert was so good I had to steal an extra one from the person who wasnt eating it (their loss). We took over the whole place for a wedding party and it was a very successful party, staff were excellent servers.
Best restaurant experience my wife and I have had for years. Exceptional service and the food was great. I had the hangar steak prix fixe special and my wife had the gnocchi and the octopus calamari. Its not cheap, but it was worth every dollar and more.
Delicious food, friendly attentive service, great restaurant. Although pretty pricey it is well worth it! We all really enjoyed our meals.
Not the greatest food
My wife and I went here for the first time for our aniversery andit had very nice views with friendly staff. The tenderloin was delicious but paying extra to have lobster with it was not worth the money.
Nice old restaurant.
Fantastic! Great food. Great views.
One of the best servers Ive ever had. Great food and great location. The truffle parmigiana fries were particularly good!
Totally stumbled on this place. Food was good, server was great
Food is outstanding,. Panzanella salad, Osso Bocco. Excellent, great service as well. Thank you for a fantastic anniversary dinner.
Food wasnt good, we tried the salmon and the lobster, both were tasteless and both got accompanied with the same veggies (lazy), I imagine the standard in Kingston is quite low, dont go there with high expectations and if you do go with the steak, you cant screw steak up. I did love the location by the water, and the building is quite beautiful, but this is not a 5 stars experience, even though the prices are.
Stopped in with my wife for a quick sample off the menu as we planned on going to two other spots in kingston to make the most out of our kingston experience. We were looking for Chef inspired dishes, not just a steak and mash. I give fair and honest reviews. Soup of the day was great. Carrot ginger, Simple and flavorful Beautifully seasoned. Lobster not so much, we had decided on this dish before we got to restaurant. Sounded great on menu just lacked flavor. Lobster was less then luke warm, lobster bisque had no flavor at all as well as risotto. It was so bland, a little more butter and seasoning would have done wonders. Root vegetable where great, perfecty cooked but the STARS of the dish bring it all down. The tall gentleman who served us was a welcome treat, funny and very attentive. 5 stars for him. Restaurants has an old atmosphere, carpet, old decor and colour scheme but great location and view. Could use an update on drink menu wine list is great. Also had seafood Nicoise which missed the mark. Octapuswas over cooked and tough, flavors on dish just dont work, trying to put to much in one plate. Try something else off the menu. Again great service and view. Better options in kingston else where. Hope they bring this spot back to glory, i will come back and try it again and hope it was just an off night. To all those giving it 5 stars, try explaining what you ordered. Makes for a more informative and realistic review.
Superb menu and quality of food. Excellent service, with attention to detail. Lovely surroundings. A real gem of a restaurant!
Terrific fine dining experience with a great ambience and view of the river. Recommend highly.
Food is middle-class fancy in the 1980s. Music way too low, service overly formal, portion sizes inconsistent. One very small vegetarian option. Dessert took 35mins. We were the only customers.
Went here for a work-function dinner... we were provided with a set menu and the options sounded good but in reality disappointing. Everyone at our table agreed: salads were bland, soup tasted as if from a can, mains were boring/lacked flavour/uninspired/overdone, and the deserts were just sad. Ill spare the details but if I had gone here on my own dime I would have been really disappointed. The wine list was okay, but the service was awkward and the setting is really dated. Ive looked at the menu here over the years and the one thing that stood-out was that it rarely changes. The place oozes complacency. I wasnt going to bother leaving a review but when I discovered that so many people were giving it 4 stars I had to say something. I suppose this sort of restaurant can survive in Kingston, but they wouldnt be able to stay open in a city were people appreciate quality food/service, or expect it at these prices. Essentially, they are trying to be something they are not, and they are duping Kingstonians and tourists along the way.
Private dining room for a business presentation was great!
Wine and atmosphere was good, but considering the prices the food was sub-par.
For dinner I had the Braised Ox tail ($14) and the pork chop($26). Service was professional and atmosphere was great( nice and clean). However, it was difficult for me to remain optimistic as the quality and portion did not speak for the pricing at all. The braised ox tail came with escargot, black garlic, Farro and mushroom. The farro overpowered everything else on the dish. The pork chop was nothing special as I am certain it is possible to find a way cheaper, above average chop elsewhere. The appetizer menu alone consisted of prices equivalent to other restaurants pricing for main courses(both mediocre and above average restaurant menus). To provide any humility, I guess it is reasonable for a first time experience, given that it is truly a special occasion.
Perfect
Great food, staff and location.
Great food and atmosphere!
Always and amazing time. The staff is always really friendly and the chef always prepares everything to perfection. I cant wait to go back.
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Highly recommend this place as long as you are not in a rush.
Wonderful soups and delicious appetizers and main courses. Attentive and pleasant table service. This restaurant also has a picturesque location on the water.
It was a meet and greet birthday party sort of thing. The food, coffee and wine were fabulous. The staff was very attentive, I cant wait to go back and try one of the house specials.
The food has always been great and the staff are super accommodating.
I came here as part of a business meeting and despite the restaurant knowing that we would arrive at a certain hour, our main courses didnt come out for a little bit over two hours. As for the appetizer, I was given a salad that was oversaturated with lemon juice and resembled the kitschy high class one would associate with a destitute golf club relying on its prestige rather than its merit. The main course, surprising in that it was actually fresh meat in stark contrast to my expectations, was easy to dismiss. The lukewarm serving temperature called to mind a mispent youth, uninspired and with so much wasted potential. I will now gloss over the sauce quickly, much like it did my plate with its insipid flavour of salt and Knorr packets. I would finally recommend to the waiting staff the following: well-fitted shirts (my drunken uncle in a Hawaiian shirt imprinted with pineapple motif striked me as less unkempt) and concentrating on food delivery rather than defensive posturing over your establishments inability to promptly serve what was likely the largest daily influx of clients since 1978. 10/10 would review again. Im still waiting for dessert.
Service and food amazing. River Mill Restaurant is a must visit when in Kingston Ont.
Delightful atmosphere, exquisite food and exemplary service. Worth every penny.
One of the hidden treasures of Kingston restaurants. Great food. Wonderful ambiance certainly and setting. The raspberry sorbet is to die for!
Great food and service
Meal was of mid quality at best, below standard for second entre. Presentation of the food was seriously substandard. Beef stew (not good enough to be using the description or name on the menu) Chicken was rather tough and relatively tasteless. Extremely overpriced.
Good food and excellent location by the lake. Service was good and fast. I recommend it. Theres also a cool clock worth checking out while you are there.
The food here was very good, I enjoyed the salad very much, scallop appetizer was delicious. The liver was very tasty even for non lovers of liver. The setting was nice and there were lots of windows offering natural light. I think dinner would have offered more selection as the lunch menu was quite barren.
Great atmosphere in a historic building. Menu is interesting and food was perfectly prepared. Service was friendly and professional.
Outstanding food and spectacular location.
Awesome experience for our anniversary! Thank you!
Delightful atmosphere, delicious food. The price was also exceedingly reasonable for the quality of food we received. The duck I had was cooked exceptionally well with crispy skin and delicate meat. My husbands steak was a generous portion and was seasoned and cooked to perfection. For dessert, while I am normally not a fan, their creme brulee was actually quite good. The view out the large windows onto the river added to the general feel of our very nice meal, and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
